State park
Nature & Parks
Located 25 miles north of Eureka, California, Sue-Meg State Park is nestled in the midst of the coast redwood region. The park offers a diverse array of tree species including coastal redwoods, hemlock, fir, and Sitka spruce. Visitors can also enjoy sandy beaches and sheer cliffs that overlook the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The park's pristine meadows are adorned with wildflowers that create a picturesque setting for nature lovers to explore.
We just stopped for a quick view from Patrick’s Point. The view was fabulous. We parked and walked a very short distance (.2 mile?) to the viewpoint. You have a great view of Wedding rock from here. We didn’t have time to explore, but we think the trail to wedding rock was from the same parking lot.
Nancy Samuels — Google review
Some of the facilities can definitely use maintenance, like the stairs. The showers could be updated, to have working lighting and more consistent hot water. The park is utterly beautiful though. It's fantastic that they went with a rename last year to respect the native people's indigenous to the area.

Formerly known as Patrick’s Point State Park. Sue-Meg State Park is a lovely state park located on the coast of Humboldt County north of Trinidad. My friends wanted to visit Agate Beach so park by the trailhead. The hike down to beach wasn’t bad. The trail is fairly easy but remember that you do have to hike back up to the parking lot. The beach is vast. It was a nice place to walk around and look at the cliffs and look for pretty rocks. We eventually just laid down by the beach and listened to the large waves crash. There other places to visit in the park but we didn’t have enough time. I would definitely go back again and explore the other side of the park.
Thomas Joseph Perez — Google review
A large part of the park was closed for storm clean up and repairs however there were still more trails that we could manage in one day. We saw 2 whales close to shore from the rim trail as well as other amazing vistas. After a picnic lunch we hiked down to Agate Beach to collect rocks (no patience to ferret out agates). Some of the trails are steep and a little slippery. We utilized our walking sticks (we are seniors ;)). There was no attendant at the entrance booth and the info center does not have cash, so make sure that you have the appropriate money for the entrance fee.

Friends who live nearby treated us to a camping night while we were traveling and wow this park has it all. Wedding Rock and Agate beach are so close. The camping ground was quiet at night. The restrooms were adequate and we really loved hearing the waves as we slept. I'd love to go back asap and enjoy this park more. So much we didn't get to explore as we were only there one night.
Emily Nudge — Google review
We stayed at the campground and explored the park. It's quite large and very pretty. Our campsite was just ok. It was surrounded with blackberry bushes, no hook-ups but was level and quiet. We really enjoyed the Wedding Rock trail and look outs. Beautiful sunset and views. It's worth going down to and climbing Wedding Rock. It's so beautiful. We rode our bikes around the park, which is quite large. A beautiful and fun place to explore!

Great place to picnic and learn about the Yurok Native Traditions and Culture! Different trails throughout the park with great ocean and wildlife viewing. There are plenty of clean restrooms scattered around the park and several overnight campsites with easy online reservation instructions. $ 8-day use fee if you just want to hang out for the day. I stay or visit this park every time I'm on the Northern California Coast!
Tanya Davidson — Google review
Absolutely loved this park. At first I didn't want to stop due to other well-known stops along my route. I'M GLAD I DID. It's $8 for a day pass for the park. Money well spent. Lots of fun for families and great photo opps for the solo traveler. This is a must-stop.
Eric Elizondo — Google review
The costal walk has some really nice views of the ocean. It's not a place for checking out redwoods, like Redwood National Park (20 min north) and Jedediah Smith (60+ min north) but gives a nice view of some of the other flora and fauna in the area.
Brad Helmer — Google review
Beautiful park, the Redwood trees are magical and extraordinary. The ocean view is magnificent. I couldn't believe the treasures I found, the banana slugs were everywhere and quite intriguing. The intensity of the ocean waves blew me away. The cliff line along the mountain side told a powerful story as well as the ocean. It's a wonderful and quiet get away in a foggy mysterious and powerful place. Camping is $35 a night, sights are clean. Each one unique and beautiful. I had a lovely and enlightening moment in time here. I hope to one day be back again.

Sue-Meg State Park made for a great stay... Lovely views, helpful staff and camp host, lots of places to walk and explore while you stay there. Take the guided tour of the village... It's a wonderful way to learn about the longer history of the area and gain a better appreciation of it and the people who have lived so long in the area. The cabins are clean, dry, and warm. If staying there, consider that there is no broom, tables/chairs, or mattress/cushion on the beds. You may want to pack those for yourself if you'd use them.
Holly Smucker — Google review
A stunning gem on the California coast. Magnificent in every facet. The views are incredible. The campgrounds are immaculate, well maintained, quiet and clean. Showers are nice. Staff is very friendly, Hannah was very kind and helpful. Thank you! A must visit stop if you’re in the area.
Joshua Woroniecki — Google review
*Patrick's Point - very pretty *Wedding Rock - pretty cliffs Both have short dirt paths with a little bit of climbing. Not everyone will find this comfortable or accessible. *Sue-Meg Village - The best. Just as I remember it as a kid. These homes and grounds are amazing and still maintained by the Yurok. You can go inside most of the homes through the hole. The interiors are amazing. That said, not everyone will be able to climb into the hole and therefore really miss out! Kids will fit for sure, and smaller, flexible adults who don't mind getting a bit dirty. If you can, go inside, you'll be amazed at how roomy it is inside. I could and would live there now. There are picnic tables and large areas for school or family groups. The place is well maintained, there are restrooms and plenty of parking. There are trails shooting off from the village. There are bears and mountain lions in the are, like every other part of the forests on the coast.
Rachael — Google review
Nice little park but for $8 not sure it is worth it. Save your money and go down to the national park that has used your federal dollars to enhance the park, maintain the trails, keep the restrooms in good repair, keep the roads in good or better repair and generally create a nice environment to recreate in. None of the campgrounds have water or electric or sewer but the sites are usually spacious and private. Restrooms were usually clean but we did find a few times that they were dirty and packed supplies that you might assume would be there. In Sept the park was never crowded and ready to find solitude of you wanted some.
Adventure Krewe — Google review
The park is beautiful but annoying you can't take dogs on the trails or beaches. You can walk with them on the road but on busy weekends that's not very relaxing as cars pass you. You can enter for free if you walk or bike.
ros McPartlin — Google review
Absolutely loved this place. Trinidad, California. We loved eating at Seascape Restaurant. And we loved eating at Trinidad Eatery also. Close enough for a 3 day weekend. Beautiful enough to stay for a week. Plenty of places to go and things to do.
Ben Freanch — Google review
I always hate leaving reviews for places like this because I feel like they're a small hidden gem that should be kept secret. I don't want it to become next on the list of places that gets  "loved to death" and suddenly you need a reservation to get in. But if I dont share how cool they are then they can't stay open. This is a pretty tiny state park but it has some spectacular views of the coast. If I were local to the area I could see coming here to watch the sunset or take a quiet stroll through the trails. It was quiet when we went, not crowded and very lovely. It was the perfect end to a longer day of hiking in other nearby parks.
Tiffani Sahara — Google review
This is a beautiful park, but the campground needs a lot of work! The only level spots are designated handicap. We tried for almost an hour and a half to get level in two different sites before we gave up. The second site we tried was big enough, but had several deep pits in the parking area and was full of mud after a lot of rain in the area. We finally parked in the handicapped spot after 5pm (after asking the park host if this was ok - it was in February and not very busy). We had originally planned to stay two nights, but left after only one. The park ranger, Ash, was as helpful as she could be but told us that we could only change sites once. She was very apologetic the next morning when she saw the condition of the two sites we had tried to park in. The park website indicates that RVs up to 31’ are allowed, but that should really be downgraded to 20’.

Outdoor Activities
Trinidad State Beach is a lovely sandy coastline situated in Humboldt County, California, which offers access to the Trinidad Head hiking trail. The beach is pet-friendly and features impressive rock formations. While it may not be the largest beach around, it remains a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The area offers excellent opportunities for surfing and taking beautiful photos.
Such a beautiful place. Amazing hiking beach and caves. Highly recommend seeing it if you ever get the chance.
Cynthia Poulos — Google review
This beach is my home away from home. Being spiritual and believing we have other lives in different forms simultaneously, this part of the ocean brings me peace and love. I feel the deep connection every time I’m there and get sad when I leave. It is a priority of mine to visit often as it is only a three hour drive for me. Peace and love to all of you who visit.
Casey Leanna — Google review
It's very pretty here. The views are great. Lots of parking. There are two sides. One side has a pier, a restaurant, and a little sheltered cove. The other is a large beach. Very windy. Even with warm temps. Bring a coat.
Julie Healon — Google review
Make sure you take the correct trail down. The wrong trail isn't for the faint of heart, even if it is a lot of fun. The correct trail has a steep incline up, so keep that in mind if bringing children. Stunning beach, with beautiful blue water, lots of sand and rocks and even some sea glass. Lots to see and do for such a little beach.
Heather Skinner — Google review
Beautiful beach. Lots of sand and opportunities for gorgeous photos. Seems popular for surfing. There is a hike down beware of poison oak/ivy growing onto the path. Saved my kid from tripping into some and got a nice rash on my leg as a reward.
Amber Hamilton — Google review
Pet friendly beach that is easily accessible. Plenty of parking and several trail options to get down to the beach. It is very steep at the end and requires climbing on the rope anchored steps that get washed out from the high tide.

Very nice quiet place to be with family
Harihar Nepal — Google review
Well this beach is nice but not the largest. There a lot of people here at this beach, but beautiful just the same. The parking lot wasn't the best being flooded and muddy, but the view at the top of the trail was worth it. Hiked to the cross which was a steep muddy climb. But at the top we saw such a great view of the ocean and even spotted some whales.
Batmans Dance — Google review
Beautiful beach. No bathrooms and parking lot can get full on the weekends.

We've used this location many times for family photos, engagement session, and had photographed multiple weddings here. It's a great spot that keeps us, and our clients, coming back again and again. If you're looking for an easy accessible beach for your wedding this is it!

Hiked out to the lighthouse to find gate blocking the last distance. Not publicized, no signage until you get to the gate. Beware, you need to hike up the hill in order to see this sign.
Eric W — Google review
So poorly maintained that the viewing platform, to be used when the lighthouse is not open (which is 30 out of 31 days per month) is practically hidden in the undergrowth. Not a worthwhile destination. I hope none of the businesses in Trinidad are hoping for tourist $$.

Fun walk and visit today; opens first Saturday of the month. Beautiful views of the calm ocean behind Trinidad Head. Watch out for poison oak along the road. Wonderful bird sounds along the path.

Had a wonderful experience. Went with family for bingo. Well organized and enjoyable. Little smokey but didn't seem too bad. Had a pesto chicken sandwich from the restaurant and it was pretty big and delicous.

Great place if tour looking for some good table games and nice selection if machines and food with good player rewards if you play often. Also a bar with stage that has live music often.
Klinton Hunsucker — Google review
I was a casino executive for many years as a Director of Player Development and Hotel Operations and other positions at two Southern California Native American casinos and I can tell you my experience at this casino was, by far, the worst experience ever. There were TWO major exceptions. A tribal member bartender/cocktail server who was one of the best guest service-oriented employees I have encountered who knew how to treat people well. And the nice older woman who worked at the gift shop. The gift shop and the cool bar that sometimes has cool bands were they only places I spent any real money. Now onto the verbal beat-down cause the pen is mightier then the sword. They allow smoking, need I say more? They do the usual casino manipulation of turning up the heater and air conditioning to make you hot. They allow smoking everywhere. The one cool thing they should have is a view of the ocean but the steakhouse is the only place with the view and it did not open until 5 or 6pm. The ignorant, old, fat, white security didn’t tell me the truth when I asked where the bar was and instead told me to “sit down and play a machine and we will send the server over to you.” Oh, also, the older lady at the players club who said she had worked there for 12 years was cool. And her supervisor who had a baby yoda button and a scar on her face and red hair, she was cool too. All should leave immediately and be ashamed of themselves for working for such monsters. Anyways, back to the slamming. They don’t have a hotel. The whole casino is one room. They have bingo but it was not open. But they didn’t even lock the last door so I could have gone in and stolen some stuff if I wasn’t honest. They still have plastic barriers at the cashier, they don’t offer credit if a high roller wants to get high rolling, they seemed to have no high-end casino hosts for high-end people like me and their table games were all closed and their machines were tight and not user-friendly or modern games and their players club system never allowed me to play my free $10. The gift shop had the tea I like and a nice set of earrings made by an actual tribal member because I support the tribe but not the casino. I bought the earrings and gave it to my nice hotel front desk person at my nice hotel two towns away. Other than that, this place is just swell. 👌

We wanted to visit for Bingo. PRO..Enjoyed a drink and had good bar food. Most staff were pleasant and helpful. CONS.... machines do not have good payouts, ventilation in the bingo hall and casino was COMPLETELY horrible! My lungs hurt and my eyes were red within hours of sitting in the non smoking section of the bingo hall. Bingo is set up to were only local frequent members win. Not a positive outcome over all. I will not make it a point to visit again.

Trinidad, a gem in Northern California, never ceases to astonish with its natural beauty and inviting ambiance. Tucked away in this serene haven is The Heights Casino, a destination that offers both entertainment and a touch of luxury in the midst of nature's splendor. Stepping into the casino, one is immediately struck by the expanse of the gaming floor. Spacious and meticulously organized, it offers an array of games tailored to every preference. Notably, for those familiar with the nuances of roulette, they adhere to California Roulette regulations, ensuring an authentic gaming experience. But the casino isn't just about gaming. The bar area, expansive in its own right, stands as a testament to their commitment to provide a well-rounded experience. On the evening of my visit, the bar was animated by the tunes of a live band. Though their set was relatively brief, the mood was heightened by their spirited performance, which paired beautifully with the myriad of drinks the bar had on offer. If you're a connoisseur of spirits or simply looking to quench your thirst, their selection is bound to impress. For those moments when hunger pangs strike, there's a convenient 'quick bites' section. Whether you're in the mood for a caffeine fix, a snack, or something more substantial, they've got you covered. A unique touch is the availability of functional microwaves. Though I didn't personally utilize this service, I believe it's geared towards guests who might want to warm up their own meals, adding a touch of homeliness to the whole experience. A noteworthy mention is the RV parking situated just across the street. It's not only conveniently located but also ensures that your stay in Trinidad is hassle-free. Just remember to check in at the casino and register your details. In conclusion, The Heights Casino stands as a harmonious blend of entertainment, convenience, and a touch of luxury. Whether you're a Trinidad local or a traveler seeking memorable experiences, this establishment promises an engaging time. Safe travels and may fortune favor you on your visit!

Nice casino. Not marked on the highway though. So if you don't know where you're going you miss it. Was there today it was really hot in there actually I was a bit surprised than that I thought they would be running an air conditioner. Friendly staff not very many floor cashier however.

What a fun little casino and I won some money too. Clean and you can't even notice the cigarette smoke. The staff were nice and helpful as well. They have a gift shop with cool souvenirs and two places to eat, one is a fine dining restaurant with amazing food and the other a burger type place also great!

Very disappointed. Have dined here before and loved it. Arrived this Saturday evening requesting a table for 5, with no reservation, which was a faux pas on my part. The person at the entrance asked if we had a reservation, and I apologized and said we did not. In a quite chilly tone she said we would have to wait until people with reservations were seated. We thought that odd, as there were at least 15 empty tables. I said ok and they left us there for almost 15 minutes without another word. Quite frankly I got annoyed and peaked over the stand to look at the reservation book to see how long it might be. I was shocked to see three entries crossed off (the only 3 occupied tables in the place) and only ONE more remaining entry. The rest of the time frames were blank. We were so upset by the poor attitude and the blatent lie the woman told us that we left. Incredibly bad experience that didn't need to be.

The staff is wonderful, they pay attention to you from the moment you approach the door and make you feel at home. Also, the Sunset Restaurant is amazing and Brittani was a wonderful server! Monday night Prime Rib special is the best! The Birthday Cake Cannoli dessert was perfect! I will be back later this month!

I really enjoyed the beach here. We saw a seal bodysurfing the waves near the shore, a couple dolphins in the distance, a sea lion swimming, and lots of pelicans. It wasn't too windy either. Parking is limited and we saw the state park rangers leaving after having given tickets to a few cars who weren't in official parking spots. There are two pit toilets which were not the best, but not the worst.

This whole area is beautiful! If you are visiting please be careful on the beaches, there are sneaker waves every year, they can sweep you out to sea, they can hit every half hour so it may look calm but never ever turn your back to the water…

Gorgeous views, calm and peaceful waters, and a chance to see some elk. Most people drive through these lagoons to visit other state parks, but have you ever stopped and taken a walk along the sand bar between the lagoon and the ocean? There are places to picnic, kayak, and explore in these gorgeous lagoons (yep, lagoons, not just lagoon). GO see for yourself how beautiful it is here. Each lagoon is different and has its own unique beauty.

Love this place if you're ever in the area. Just stop on by the sun. Rises and sunsets are beautiful agates all over the place. Of course you got to look but it is all around a great place. Not the best for fishing, at least with my experiences, but if you're going by this place I'd definitely recommend stopping by
