Fruitlands Museum

Museum
Hiking area
Fruitlands Museum is a historical museum located in a farmland setting dating back to around 1914. The museum houses an array of Native American artifacts, Shaker documents, paintings and more. The rolling views of the area are stunning with Wachusett mountain visible in the distance. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful greens that stretch for miles and miles surrounding the museum. Guests can dine and dance under a tent while enjoying bright warm light with unobstructed views of the surrounding scenery.
We have photographed several weddings at this stunning venue that's conveniently located about 50 minutes west of Boston. There are gorgeous rooms full of natural light for both members of the couple to prepare for the day. The Fruitlands Museum itself is housed in a quaint white classic New England style building, but the real star of the show at this venue is the spacious, luxury style wedding tent and the mountain view of Monadnock and Wachusett. Couples who choose to have their outdoor ceremony here will treat their guests to stunning vista views of the Nashua River Valley as they say their vows in the fresh air. Cocktail hour typically happens next to the tent where guests can take in the views and enjoy a gorgeous sunset over the mountains. This venue is part of the Trustees of MA group, and as all of their venues are, expertly operated! You will be in good hands at this venue and can be guaranteed a wonderful wedding day with an experienced team of talented folks.

Came here for a wedding. As a wedding venue, the scenery was beautiful and the dinner & reception set up (tent) was cute. It would have been helpful if there was a larger restroom, and if the wooden canopy near the ceremony area had heated lamps.

Great place to get some history and hiking in. Take a look at the childhood home of Louisa May Alcott and learn a little bit about the utopian movement of the 1840's at the same time. There are also sculpture and hiking trails. The views are amazing too! Need to tire out some young kids? This is the place.

We photographed out first wedding here and it was perfect! Fuitlands has the most beautiful rolling views with Wachusett mountain in the distance. The colors were beginning to pop, and they had beautiful greens for what felt like miles and miles. As we headed into the tent for dinner and dancing, the light was bright and warm with openings all around to see the views. Fruitlands is a beautiful place to see and I hope we come back for more weddings!

Gorgeous vista from the entrance, modern and antiquarian art displays and tranquil woodland walk. Worth the scenic drive to get there.

We are so happy we chose to have our wedding at Fruitlands Museum. The view alone is so stunning but the day-of staff made our wedding extraordinary. Throughout the planning process, we worked with Laura who is the coordinator through Fireside. She was very easy going and helped us create our dream wedding. The event manager Shaun and attendants who worked our 10/8 wedding provided the most incredible service. They were on-top of every single detail, organized and so kind. Everything ran so smoothly and it truly just felt like a dream. We had guests rave about the service that was truly the best we’ve experienced at any wedding. The food— phenomenal. It was so delicious, all of our guests raved about the quality of the meal. We all know the couple rarely gets to sit down and enjoy their meals but we got the opportunity to sit and eat because of how wonderful and timely the service was. our attendant Shannon brought us snacks and champagne to the bridal suite and appetizers during cocktail hour photos and worked tirelessly the whole night to make sure we had every thing we could possibly need. She was AMAZING. Her timing was impeccable and would meet us on the dance floor with a drink so we didn’t have to stop the fun. We are so grateful to the entire staff and couldn’t be happier with our experience of having our wedding at the Fruitlands museum.

We had a guided tour, who explained about each and every exhibit. It was very interesting for the way if life of the community that lived there at the time. The gift shop area was nice, which also had an area to order food& non alcohol drinks. Tis is a great way to spend a family fun day.

Very misleading name and disappointing experience. The 2 museums they have - an art museum and a Native American museum can NOT have the status of a museum. This is A BIG JOKE. The art museum has 3 rooms with a horrendous smell and about 5-6 contemporaty art objects. That is ALL. The Native American museum had 2 rooms with 3! paintings, 3! rugs, a few bowls and 1 boat. That is ALL. Look at my pictures. That is all you will see there. The rest of that land can be called a farm, but there are no animals or gardens. There are a few hiking trails, but to enter this so-called "museum" you need to pay at least $10 per person. I wouldn't pay it for hiking. I wouldn't pay for anything there. A misleading name, unclear purpose, strange concept, 4! people working... I really would like to understand the purpose of this place and why people would pay to go there. Add to this a location in the middle of nowhere and gas prices to get there. Worthless waste of time, money, anything you name it. Maybe views? I've seen much better views that do not require fees. The ONLY thing I liked there were 2 statues of Native Americans. They were very good, however not worth the trip or money they charge.

Nice historic site with the farmhouse built in 1800’s where visitors can explore how people lived about two centuries ago. There is a few little galleries, hiking trails and cafe with a great views. We visited the place in August so there were lot of MOSQUITOES!!! Ok

We had such a good time here today. The weather was perfect for walking the grounds, the staff were all friendly. We paid the extra $5 for the tour of the Shaker Museum and the Fruitlands Farmhouse, and it was totally worth it. Our guide for the tour, Amy, had so much knowledge to share. She was great!!

The small museum buildings have interesting exhibits - we learned about the brief Transcendentalist and longer Shaker presences in Harvard. Hiking trails were nice, though we picked up a lot of (larger, non-deer) ticks.

Harvard Alpaca Ranch, Inc. offers a wonderful experience for families with young kids. The owners provide guided tours and are friendly and knowledgeable about the adorable and gentle alpacas. Some of the alpacas are registered therapy animals, allowing visitors to walk them on a leash and feed them treats. The ranch also features a well-stocked gift shop offering various alpaca products, from socks to plush toys.
This place is wonderful, and a great experience for young kids. The owners give guided tours and are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the alpacas are adorable and very gentle (a few will even let you pet them). A couple of the alpacas are registered therapy animals, so we were allowed to "walk" them on a leash and feed them treats, which was a lot of fun for the kids. There is also a large and well-stocked gift shop offering all things alpaca, from socks, slippers, shawls, mittens & scarves, to plush toys, ornaments and key chains. Overall, a great day out with the family--we'll definitely be back again.

Went for a tour and it was an amazing experience! The staff (and alpacas) were more than welcoming. The woman who showed us around was very knowledgeable and passionate about the farm. Overall it was a great experience especially considering they only ask for a donation. The shop also has whatever alpaca paraphernalia one would hope for.

Wonderful lovely farm. Great tour. Everyone was so nice and answered all of our questions. Some of the Alpacas even let us pet them. Great gift shop. Highly recommend getting the fuzzy stuffed animals. Softest material I've ever felt. Thank you for the great experience.

What a fabulous place with the most friendly people. Wanted to see Alpaca because my partner and I were discussing the friendliness of split lipped animals and I said Llama are the least friendly and spit at you while camels are very friendly in the wild if you bring them apples. Alpaca seem somewhere in the middle, they don't seem to want to get Skritches all the time, but also don't seem to mind you hanging around. So camels, 5/5 stars for friendliness (bribed), alpaca 4/5 stars, llama 3/5 stars. Oh yea... the Ranch- nicest people, are willing to let you play with their animals and walk you around the ranch and answer questions. They ask you give a donation or purchase something from their store... too easy. They have some seriously nice warmer clothing, but the draw for me was the Yeti. In good Yeti fashion they were hiding and apparently don't come out till the holidays. Go figure this one out for yourself! Anyway... great place, highly recommended! No, camels are not available to bribe at this location, they don't seem to care much for Massachusetts.

Great experience! You get to touch the alpacas and take pictures. Tours was free and you can support by purchasing something from the store or make a donation.

An awesome experience and great tour. The shop is filled of plenty options to choose from to support the farm: from socks to beanies to plush toys, all made from the alpacas wool. Picture is of Reggie, really chill guy, great personality.

I did a ranch tour for my birthday today. It was an amazing time. The owners take great care of the alpacas and are super friendly and knowledgeable. They also protect the animals from being attacked from kids and being petted and bombarded by humans all day which seems pretty rare.
Michelle Callahan — Google review
The alpacas are the cutest! The person giving us the tour was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and patient. She took the time to introduce us to each alpaca, to tell us their story, to show us how to feed them. They are super soft. The whole experience was super worth it.

10000 stars! You have to schedule a guided tour but you get to walk among beautiful alpacas and pet them. Go here immediately and donate too!
Mary Vasquez — Google review
Very nice Alpaca farm, wonderful animals. The have newly born Alpacas, very cute watching them play. Free to enter to take a guided tour. The guide gives you pieces of food pellets to hand feed the Alpacas. They have a gift shop store which has all sorts of Alpaca made wool made items to purchase.
Samuel Mandello — Google review
GREAT TOUR!! We enjoyed it so much. We were given the opportunity to feed and pet the alpacas. We got to go in both pens, and we really enjoyed it. We did not expect to be able to get as close to as many of them as we did. We learned a ton of the names for the sweet alpacas, learned about their care and upkeep, and how they are groomed. The gift shop was super cute & I was able to get alpaca wool socks! Overall, would HIGHLY recommend!

Charming spot! The tour was informative and the alpacas were super-cute. The store is very well-stocked with classy and fun alpaca products and local items like maple syrup. Highly recommended!

I had a wonderful visit with the alpacas at Harvard Alpaca Ranch today. All my questions were answered by a very knowledgeable employee of the ranch. The alpacas are simply beautiful. Gift store is packed full of quality products. This is a place to visit at all the seasons.

Awesome place to meet alpacas! They are so cute! I enjoyed coming to ranch and the owner gave comprehensive guided tour. Great stuff in the shop as well!

This place is amazing! Even though we were just a group of 2 our tour guide took such time and care to give us a memorable experience. The young woman was personable and sweet but most of all her knowledge was so impressive and really elevated the visit. The animals are adorable and obviously so well cared for. Can’t say enough good things! Go visit Nacho and Charlie! :)

Shaker Hills Country Club

Golf course
Outdoor Activities
Shaker Hills Country Club offers a challenging layout with undulating greens in good condition. It's advisable to play strategically rather than relying solely on power shots. Some visitors found the staff less friendly, but overall, it's a great course for experienced players and worth returning to despite some minor drawbacks. The course is described as beautiful and fast-paced, making it unsuitable for beginners but enjoyable for those seeking a challenge.
What a beautiful course. Practice green/driving range are great with range balls included in your green fees, which just feels classy. Support staff to ensure you have smooth start to the round. Very diverse course with lots of fun undulations. Good greens. The hot dog could be better, but other than that we had a great time.
Daniel Stone — Google review
Neat course, challenging layout. Greens have a lot of undulation in them. They rolled pretty true and were in good condition. I did notice a lot of spike marks on them though. Definitely a course you want to play to landing spots instead of bashing driver every time. Taking one star off because they wanted to charge my wife a full green and cart fee just to ride along with me. Staff wasn’t the friendliest, took my card and wished me on my way. All in all though I would absolutely come back to play here. Good course available to the public
Wayne Jordan — Google review
Not at all worth the hype. I will say the greens are phenomenal. Super fast but receptive. This place is nice from far, but truthfully it’s in kinda rough shape. Really disappointed in the tee boxes. They aren’t level, or anywhere close to it. Fairways were pretty thin, looks like they’ve struggled to grow and are in danger of losing some. Rough also very thin. Divots appear to never be fixed, anywhere. Layout is quite challenging. Not many remotely flat lies to be found. Lot of quirky holes. Also not a fan of the gimmicky tee shots on the par 3s. No reason to showcase that length of a par three, given the current pace of play issues the game has. Speaking of. 5 hours on a Monday mid day is insane. Never saw a ranger. Clubhouse looks nice from a distance, but it’s in rough shape. Inside wasn’t much better with the bar and tables being mostly unclean. Overall pretty disappointing considering what they’re charging. Not much value here.

Played Shaker for first time in many years on Saturday. Very disappointed. Course not what it used to be. Greens were horrible and bunkers looked like muni course. Not worth the $$ right now until they get it back in shape. Played Crosswinds in Plymouth on Sunday which was much less expensive and in awesome shape. Greens were spectacular. .
Rowland Burnett — Google review
Very poor experience today. Make no mistake, the course is beautiful and in excellent condition. It's too bad that after the first hole a ranger came racing out to accuse my friend of not paying for his round (which he immediately showed proof of on his e-receipt on his phone). At the turn the clubhouse crew pulled us off the course to accuse him of the same thing. Made him pay a SECOND green fee to continue despite showing the proof that he paid. Meanwhile, the starter at the turn is giving us a hard time that we're not keeping up - while we're being detained at the clubhouse until we pay again. This is a great course. But I'll take my business elsewhere where I'll be treated respectfully by the staff.

Incredible golf course. A little pricey in the morning but I would say it's worth it. We played in an absolute downpour. I would come back to play it in good weather.
Kelly McCaig — Google review
A lot of the areas around the greens were dry and burnt out, missing a green and hitting a burnt out area sends your ball flying. Greens look like they took a hit this year, I'll be going back for sure hopefully the course rebounds. Staff and restaurant are great, just three stars due to the course conditions. 5 stars for the staff
Matt DeJohn — Google review
This place has lost its fastball and is best to be avoided. Used to play 3-4 times a year, but won’t go back for a while after recent (May 2022) experience. The $120 price is outrageous for a place that has given up on its greens, with some kind of mold taking hold on most greens. Instead of address it, they spent an (estimated) $200k to $300k building a gimmicky stupid elevated tee on astroturf on the roof of a fake building for two holes near the on-course snack shack. (Snack shack opened 40 minutes late and was poorly run.) Bad decisions abound here. I’ll stick to other public courses in the area.
Michael J. Nichols — Google review
Great course to play. Beautiful layout & fast green. Not recommend for the beginners.
Hank Yoon — Google review
This place has gone downhill fast. I used to enjoy taking the 45 min drive north to play this course but now I will be finding other places to play. The entire staff is rude and unwelcoming, and the condition of the course is sub-par at best with rocky cart paths, unkept fairways, bunkers, etc. I recently visited there and when my guest asked for a double shot of bourbon to sip on the bartender rudely said she doesn't give out doubles, "not to you, not to anyone". She said, I can give you 2 singles which my guest agreed to but as anyone would, he combined the drinks into 1 glass and she took it away from him like he committed a crime. I guess Harvard is a dry town which is understandable but if they have certain rules they need to follow, maybe communicate those rules to your patrons and not make them feel like idiots for ordering drinks at the bar. I wanted to take a drink with me to the putting green and she said no, and said that they were not a "package store". I explained that I wanted to take a drink with me to putt and she got mad at me and would not allow me to get another drink unless I drank it at the bar. Made 0 sense to me but after playing the course and then experiencing that kind of treatment, I can think of 50 other places that I can go to that are better and where we will be treated as guests. Hard Pass on this place for the foreseeable future.
Roger Laplante — Google review
Having moved away from the area, I was excited to play this course again. Overall, the course was in good shape. Greens were average to quick. Looks like they have had a lot of rain so large divots on green entry. A few things were just not right! With all the land they own, the range is just not good enough. You cannot hit anything more than a 215 yard shot. So, no hybrid, 3 wood or driver to warm up. Second, similar to some other comments in here, we were stopped after 9 holes and accused of not paying for 1 golfer. I understand the need to be paid but the way that Michael in the pro shop held up his hand and then accused us was bang out of order. he could have brought it up in a different manner. Then, we were told to speed up and sat in the fairway fuming waiting for the group in front for the remainder of the round. On the green of the par 3 down the hill on the back, another ranger came around, we asked him about the payment issue and he fopped us off too. After the round, one of us went in and spoke to the pro shop. Again, didn't care. I will be taking my future rounds and friends to Red Tail. Good bye Shaker Hills, you hired poorly.
