Manting Park is a stunning national park featuring a variety of attractions. Visitors can admire the impressive statue of Premier Zhou Enlai, stroll through serene gardens filled with colorful flowers and trees, and marvel at the intricate architecture of the gilded Buddhist temple on site. The park also boasts a tranquil lake, dotted with charming little cottages perfect for resting or picnicking. A highlight is feeding the abundant fish in the pond, which eagerly jump over each other for food.
A beautiful park and temple complex. You can see it all in an hour or two. There's a nice cafe midway to cool off in. There is a dress code for the temple part. Ladies be prepared by taking a wrap or a shawl or you might be disappointed (and you can't get out of the park without walking all the way back - there is an exit via the temple.

Nice park, very beautiful flowers and trees, lake, with cosy little resting places. We especially appreciated the tittle cottages, where you can sit with 4-6 people and have a table and a roof. Also we fed the fish, so many fish in that pond that they jumped over each other when feeding. That's worth to see. Boat hiring also possible and quite charming. We enjoyed elephant and birds show. We didn't had the impression the elephants where treat good, so one point deduction. The show was okay.

Beautiful park to visit, I guess on most days if not everyday, at closing time you can also buy a ticket to join a dinner followed by a show. (September 2018)

An extensive park in the south-east of Xishuangbanna containing a wide variety of tropical and sub-tropical plants. A large lake runs through the park and boats are available for hire at certain times of year. Live animal performances attract many Chinese visitors. Parrots and other tropical birds put on several displays throughout the day while in another arena captive elephants perform three times a day. Sadly these animals all show signs of 'abnormal repetitive behaviour' (ARB). The two captive elephants showed obvious signs of ARB such as repetitive pacing backwards and forwards as well as head swaying. Some of the birds also showed similar signs of ARB as well as self-plucking. Aside of such circus like performance, often banned in the west, the park is nonetheless a pleasant walk through. It is also home to a large Buddhist temple which is accessed by crossing the bridge that divides the lake.

The Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley Tropical Rain Forest Scenic Area, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Botanical Garden, offers a diverse range of tropical animals and plants. The area includes attractions like Wangtianshu, Flower Garden, Primitive Forest Park, and Manting Park. While some may argue that elephant performances are not humane, it's important to note that these protected areas primarily aim to safeguard elephants.

We were there at 09:00 sharp, and there was already a lot of people in the park. Unfortunately we didn’t see any elephants during our visit, but it only means they have somewhere to retreat. At 10:30 the park was full of noisy and misbehaving tourists, and guides with loudspeakers. How sad it was to see all the plastic and garbage, lying along the footpath through the forest. Mass tourism and greed have destroyed this pristine spot.

(Reviewing based on 2 years ago) I don't know if it's because I read the book "Black Beauty" a few weeks earlier, but the elephant ride place as shown in the cover photo of this Google page looked like they were being put through slave labour and some seemed severely malnourished, compared to the elephants that were roaming freely nearby.
Soroush Torkian — Google review
This is not a free space for the elephants. Only shows for people and tourists. They say they have the elephants free and with the less contact with humans but is not true. Don’t go there please, do not contribute to these dirty and inhuman business

(Translated by Google) Although there are elephant performances that are not very humane, this is a protected area mainly established to protect elephants. From December to March every year, it is easy to see wild elephants in the forest in the early morning and evening. Walk along the plank road or ropeway to the end and wait patiently for a while and it will appear.

(Translated by Google) They claim to be a reserve where the animals are in their natural habitat with the least interaction with humans and they offer shows with elephants, photos with them.... These poor elephants are being exploited for human consumption. I was planning to go on my next trip to China thinking that it really was a reserve where the animals are free, but knowing the cruelty to which they are subjected has put it out of my mind. Please don't go to this kind of place. For the sake of the animals who spend their lives suffering for a few minutes of our fun. This place is huge. Be prepared for a full day there but don't go at high season when it's too hot to walk around unless you can cope with that. Very busy, you get bussed around, and to a European it feels crazy busy and chaotic although in fact the park seem to do a great job of handling lots of people. It is beautiful though and worth a trip if you like that kind of thing.
