Restaurant
Located in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Treasure Box is a cozy family-owned restaurant and gift shop offering traditional Newfoundland dishes and local goods. The menu features a variety of local specialties such as turkey, pea, and moose soup made fresh daily, cod au gratin, fish chowder, fish cakes, moose burgers, baked beans, chili, and more. Breakfast is served all day long. Visitors can also explore the souvenir store with an array of small gifts available for purchase.
I love this place! Souvenirs and home cooking in one place. There were some locally made products including knitted sweaters and preserves. There are a few tables to sit for lunch or dinner but we opted for take-out. Food was amazing! Excellent fish cakes, absolutely loved the mustard relish/pickles, yummy touton and the moose soup was delicious. Pictures don't do it justice. Desserts were also great, tried the partridge berry cheesecake and a bakeapple tart. It was packaged up nicely, and a nice lady even ran out to our car because they forgot a small side of the pickles. Would definitely recommend and will go back.

Great desserts, there are many visitors right at opening time.

We ate here on the recommendation of someone we met en route to Gros Morne. (Note: we came here in late August). I am glad we stopped here, as we found the food tasty, while the gift shop was filled with many interesting crafts. I also tasted bakeapple for the first time (it was great!) when I ordered a bakeapple milkshake.

This is a MUST if you are in Rocky Harbour. Great prices, excellent food, and a neat place. My 9 year old raved about it. Sage gave it a 10/10!
Tony Johnson — Google review
Very cozy place, friendly. I visited here twice, had seafood chowder, fish cake, vegetarian sandwich and bakeapple tart .They are all very good and reasonable prices.
Nicole A. — Google review
We ordered veggie omelette, hash browns and french toasts. Loved the hash browns we had. Tasty and crispy. Omelette despite being veggie was not bland at all like at other breakfast places. Tasty! French toasts were also great. The shop has other local crafts things etc as shown in the picture. You can buy souvenirs as well. Owner was very hospitable and nice guy. Place is not that big so can get busy quickly. I would definitely go there again!

This restaurant & souvenir store was a great option for a quick meal. After sometime in the rain outside discovering Gros Morne National Park attractions we stopped at Treasure Box for lunch and the fish cakes were really good. Looks like they also have a good breakfast, that we didn’t try, but we bought their bagels that was really tasty. The owner was helpful, explaining not only the dishes, but indicating local attractions, really friendly. The place it’s also a souvenir store with nice small gifts. Treasure box it’s located in the main street of Rocky Harbour and for sure it’s a place to stop and explore.
Discovering Destinations — Google review
What a little gem! The owners were "best kind" and just the kind of people you want to meet across Newfoundland. Tried the moose burger + the moose jerky. They will prepare food time permitting but have lots of items to go at the ready. Lots of odds and ends to look at here, and you can meet "Miss Treasure" the moose.
Lindsey Ross — Google review
We loved the food there! The seafood chowder and fish cakes were my favorite! I also liked the roasted beef sandwich. There's also a gift shop right beside the tables so when you're waiting for the food, you can walk around and check out the souvenirs! Awesome place! We went there multiple times in two days.
Jun Yang — Google review
We came here when they just opened for the season (in early June) and it's a neat shop selling different souvenirs and merchandise. We were looking for Gros Morne magnets, and even though they didn't have any in stock, the lady was still very helpful.

Spent three nights at the Ocean View Hotel. Accommodation in the king room, ocean view was lovely. The room was newly renovated and we really enjoyed our stay. We booked using booking.com and changed the date of our stay to add an extra day a month before our arrival; however, there was an issue with the website and the communication with the hotel and they hadn’t received the amended booking information. Luckily we were still able to stay the third night. We had lunch one day at the pub, their fish and chip special. The fish was beer battered cod and was quite good! We ate dinner one night at the ocean view restaurant. We didn’t get a seat along the window so we didn’t have a view but the food was good (albeit fairly pricey for what was offered), but we enjoyed our meal. We had a bowl of the seafood chowder, the lobster stuffed mushroom caps, the steak, and topped it off with some deep fried ice cream and chocolate cake. It was quite the indulgence. We also attended the Monday night Anchors Away show at the pub. That was a really fun experience and it was the first night of our holiday so it really set the stage. We had a few more beers than we usually do, and a screech which really encouraged the singing and the dancing ;)

We had read that it is best to request to stay in the new addition building, which we did, and it was wonderful. In the new addition, the room are super clean, have very comfortable beds and have great amenities. Overall, the staff are friendly and super helpful. Breakfasts in the dining room were great and our waiter we had each day was a young local fellow who definitely made our day. We had one dinner there and all of our seafood was over cooked and the service was slow (too bad we didn’t have the same young waiter as we did each morning!). We would stay here again!
Debra Dolhun — Google review
It was a lovely hotel with lovely staff. Dorothy went above and beyond for us on our first day. The restaurant was one of the best meals we have had anywhere. To the owners… i know there is an insurance protocol but the lights over the balconies are so bright. It would be so much better to see the stars and enjoy our evening if the lights were off. Or maybe change the lights Aside from that. No complaints. We will return

Nice hotel, very good location for exploring the area. Bed was comfortable, had a room with a patio which was an extra bonus. Restaurant was good, beautiful view. Friendly staff in the pub and we enjoyed the “Kitchen Party” show on Sunday night.

Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Ocean view! Good breakfast. Stayed 2 nights.
Jim Lindsey — Google review
While the Anchors Aweigh show was good fun, the food service was very disappointing. Our waitress never smiled, never greeted us, never exhibited any bit of hospitality. The overpriced fish and chips included but one piece of fish. We've eaten a lot of fish and chips on the island. Almost all other restaurants offer two nice pieces. We ordered a $14.00 Caesar salad. The portion was so small and the romaine lettuce was wilting. I brought it up to the bar (since our waitress never bothered to come around to check on our meal) and returned it. She didn't apologize, she just said, "I'll take it off your bill". Five stars for the show (for which you pay separately). Two stars for food. Zero stars for service and hospitality.
Kenneth Kabel — Google review
My husband and I ate here a couple of weeks ago. The service was great, all older ladies who were friendly and helpful ( I saw one help a man who was unfamiliar with how to get at the lobster meat). When we arrived they warned us that it might take a while to get our food but that was not the case as we found the service smooth and efficient. The food was good (lobster capped mushrooms and panfried cod) and we enjoyed the sunset over the harbour while finishing our wine. The only con is the room and lighting which are a bit stark. Focus on the sunset instead ;-).
Sharon Ledwell — Google review
Pros: looks nice outside and great location. Cons: lots of deferred maintenance (toilet, bath fan), front desk staff that didn’t even apologize much less thanks us for bringing these to their attention, housekeeping that entered the room while still knocking before 9 am on checkout day. I know tourism businesses have been hard hit, hopefully this hotel will address these issues before next season.
Shelin Tkatch — Google review
Overpriced spot to stay while exploring gros morne. They have decent accommodations but I recommend staying in Norris point over here this place looked and felt like an old smoking motel from the 90s. Just outdated and overpriced for what you get
Garret MacDonald — Google review
We loved rocky Harbour and we absolutely loved our staff, especially the owner Michelle and our bar tender Pearl!
Brent Harris — Google review
Exactly similar experiences as some of the other reviews. We booked an ocean view room and got a partial ocean view room. There was no view of the ocean to be very honest. The room was in the first floor and you could get a glimpse of the ocean if you came out of the room! The elderly lady at the reception was very unprofessional and rude, on asking to change the room because it was dark and not the type of room we booked in the first place. She did change and gave us a room upstairs again not an ocean view room but we thanked her anyways. She, on the other hand booked us a wrong room and instead of being polite about the mistake she told us that we were lucky that she changed it for us and if it was one of the busier months we wouldn’t have that option. When you pay for something and don’t get it, the minimum you can expect is an apology and not an attitude! Will never stay here again and will not recommend as well. She gave us a refund of 50$ but it is not always about the money sometimes a thank you or a sorry goes a long way!
Abhinanda Sinha Roy — Google review
Super friendly and helpful staff. Extremely clean room! I have traveled the world and am very impressed at how clean the room was. The bathroom was spotless! Great job! Small gifts hope with great finds from local artists. Affordable beautiful jewelry. Great location

When no competition exists, you get less what you paid for. We stay there for 3 nights, it is the worst we experienced in Canada. Expensive and lousy, but this is the only hotel here. Do not eat in its restaurant, expensive and bad. Go cross the street to Fisherman’s Landing.
Lei Zhou — Google review
Little motel with huge views. The staff and location are beyond expectations. We enjoyed breakfast at the attached restaurant. Had an absolute blast at the evening "kitchen party" in the attached pub. Would definitely book again.

Good service, great location for hiking Gros Morne mountain. Unfortunately the rooms are not great. Despite the AC it is very humid and there is a persistent off smell. The pillows are also extremely lumpy.

Beautiful location! Very friendly staff! Great shows - Anchors Aweigh show a must!! Good food and close to Gros Mourne Mountain, Woodys Point and so much more!
Rick Singh — Google review
We booked a room with 2 queen beds for my adult daughter and I and they gave us a suite with one bed she had to sleep on an extremely terrible pull out couch mattress. I asked front desk for the 2 queen beds and of course nothing available the suites are of course more expensive. No effort was made to accommodate.I did speak with several other people staying at hotel and they had the same issues with getting different rooms than they booked. We booked tickets 4 months in advance,It happens but the anchors away comedy show at hotel got canceled. The restaurant food was good but way over priced they just seem to gouge on everything and not generally caring about customers. The hotel has somewhat of a monopoly and they seem to know it so this the vibe I get from the front desk. There other places I stayed in Rocky Harbour in the past that go a little extra for you.

Fast food restaurant
Greco Pizza Xpress is an expensive yet disappointing pizza place. The toppings are sparse, the taste is lackluster, and the crust is too thick. However, it's worth noting that the pizza box can be recycled. On a more positive note, their fruit salad is a great choice. It consists of yogurt, banana, strawberry, and granola which makes it absolutely delightful. The service at Greco Pizza Xpress is fast and reliable although slightly overpriced.
Justin Quinton — Google review
Pitiful excuse for a greco, we ordered extra cheese and we got the pizza home we could see the bread all over it looked like maybe half the alloted amount of cheese not half, when we returned they took the back and preceded to load it with cheese and put it thru the oven again utterly ruining the pizza drying it out and on top it all they didn't recut it ! So naturally any piece you try and lift loses all toppings. If I could give this spot a 0 star rating I would. Save your money buy a home made pizza kit.
Fast Times — Google review
Busy place. Thinking that the food would be good. We ordered take out pizza and without a doubt the pizza was the worst i have had. I would like to try the other food but Greco Pizza may as well have been thick cardboard. Sorry. Could not finish it

Fisherman's Landing Restaurant is a gem! Moose meat is awesome, staff were really friendly, partridge berry pie was delicious! Highly recommend - can't wait to go back.
JS B — Google review
Great food choice, fruit salad was the best part in my opinion. I ordered a cream cheese bagel and a fruit salad. The cream cheese bagel was a little hard, but really good. Fruit salad was absolutly amazing. With yogurt, banana, strawberry, and granola. Good, fast and constant service, very convenient. Slightly overpriced.

Sunset Cafe is a charming spot with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The seafood bake and wraps are highly recommended, especially if you're planning a hike. The cafe also features a lovely gift shop filled with cute souvenirs. Visitors can enjoy delicious food at affordable prices, including French toast, bacon, and breakfast burritos. Additionally, the cafe offers great views and an assortment of Gros Morne merchandise at reasonable prices.
Cute café and gift shop. We went there after hiking Western Brook Pond, it was about a 25 minute drive. The staff were all incredibly friendly and we had a great time there. From the looks of it, they serve incredible ice cream, but we were only there for lunch and didn’t want to get anything. The food is very affordable and they also have a great assortment of coffees. The gift shop is loaded with really cute stuff and great souvenirs for your trip.

Just ordered a clubhouse. It was good, nothing over the top. They put sliced ham on it, I had to remove it. No biggy. Service was pretty slow, but you can browse the ding dangs and thingys while you wait.

Good food, table ordered French toast with bacon and breakfast burritos with hash. Lovely cafe, it seems well enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Great service! Wish they had more seating, but on the plus side there is a ramp so it is accessible to the cafe floor, I’m unsure about the gift shop downstairs. We planning on returning for breakfast again tomorrow.

Friendly staff and felt like home. Had their seafood bake and it was phenomenal. Freshly made. We packed their wraps for our hike to Gros Morne Mountain and they were very tasty. I am had a veggie wrap and my husband had a chicken Ceasar wrap. Quick tip: if you are bringing them to a picnic and don’t want it bulky, ask them to pack it for a hike. I forgot to let them know when we ordered them for take out but they were VERY kind and accommodating to repack for a picnic hike.

Fantastic dining with a great view. - The Seafood Chowder is a MUST TRY! 👍🏽 - Friendly staff, in both the restaurant and the merchandise shop. - Great variety of Gros Morne Merch for reasonable prices! - Bathrooms were clean

Phenomenal dinners and desserts. Fish dishes were supremely fresh and cooked to perfection. Desserts we're sumptuous. Local specialties offered for every meal Immensely friendly owner too!

Good customer service. The food was not that tasty. I had cod au gratin or something like that and was fish under a pile of bread and melted shredded cheese. I had to ask for some salt to give some flavor to my meal. My husband’s bacon grilled cheese sandwich was good though.

Java Jacks is a small and casual restaurant in Gros Morne National Park that serves hearty comfort cuisine. The building is part of the area's heritage and the upstairs restaurant has expanded three years ago. The food here is fresh and healthy, with good portions, recommended for visitors who want something not deep fried.
Lovely little spot with a view of the water. They had quite a range of options, with something for everyone, and very yummy/well presented food at that! I also love a place that has local art on display, so I was able to get a sense of what makes Rocky Harbour unique.

Note: While we ate here in late August, I believe it is now closed for the season. My wife and I stumbled across this restaurant after our evening plans fell through. Not sure what to expect, we entered what looked like a private home that had been converted to a cafe. When we said we were there for dinner, we were brought to the second floor, where various couples / groups of friends were seated at different tables. After ordering, we ate some of the best food I have had in years. The tomato basil soup was delicious, the mussels in pesto sauce that my wife got were fantastic, my lobster sandwich and salad were crazy good, while the dessert we ordered was also wonderful. To make a great situation even better, our server was excellent, friendly, and fun. If I could, I would give this eatery more than five stars.

Everything is made with love!! Services without flaws! Charming owners! We tried the lobster sandwich and the cod platter! it was perfection. Highly recommended!!

Nice location, Cody interior, colourful decor make this two story eatery fun. We booked in early and had a window seat overlooking the harbour. There isn’t a lot on the menu but what we had was good. We ordered the fish cakes to begin and they were served with a very tasty pickled relish. We both chose the salmon dinner and I requested gf, which made them leave the cantaloupe and ginger jam off but I didn’t think that would have gluten and if it’s the jar of jam they sell, it doesn’t appear too. They then brought a small dish. It made the fish as it was delicious. Service is friendly.

Great place! Enjoyed two cold beers with our amazing entrees. The Cod, which was pan fried and served with roasted potatoes and steamed veggies, which was a nice change from deep fried fish. The Rabbit pie was also so good and flaky! Service was excellent considering we didn't have a reservation and the place was packed! Definitely book a reservation, you don't want to miss this place

Food and service were good. We ate here a few years ago and the food was outstanding and certainly in line with the price. We weren't wowed this time, for the price, but everything was delicious and will certainly go again. They did accommodate a picky palate, so that was good service.

Great food and services. I reserved 1 day in advanced. But when we were there around 17:30, there were 1 large and 2 tables empty. Lobster sandwiches seemed very popular and several guests ordered it. photos: seafood chowder cod tongues rabbit en croute pan seared cod

We caught this spot at a weird time I guess.. Breakfast ends around 11 and lunch starts at 12. So we ordered wraps from the fridge. Our initial server was quite crabby (perhaps with our timing) but the second lady was sweet as pie. They were taken into the back and prepared but oddly not heated up, nor was it offered. Had a cold pulled pork. We got a scone as well and I did get that warmed up to soften. They were nice wraps- but our bill was $42.00 for a pretty basic meal. Would likely go back for lunch but not going out of my way.

Fresh Vegetables! We know this part of the country where fresh vegetables is more expensive than fresh fish. After having lots of fish n chips, we finally found this place where fresh leafy greens are served. Good food, good portions. It’s definitely recommended for visitors who want something not deep fried.
