Masaya

Masaya is a city in western Nicaragua. It’s the gateway to Masaya Volcano National Park, home to several craters and the active Masaya Volcano. On the edge of town, El Malecón is a walkway overlooking Laguna de Masaya, a crystalline crater lake. The city is known for its National Artisan Market, selling handmade hammocks, woodcarvings and pottery. The 18th-century Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church is nearby.

Breakfast restaurant
Mi Ranchito Sucursal Carretera a Masaya is a restaurant in Nicaragua that provides excellent service and offers a variety of delicious food options. Although some customers feel that the salad could benefit from more vegetables, the overall dining experience is considered to be quite satisfying. The establishment particularly shines on Mother's Day, where they go above and beyond to provide top-notch service. However, not everyone may appreciate the music band at this restaurant.
We have lunch there many times , good food , good service, never disappointed.

The service was sub par at best, the waiter didn’t seem too concerned of any of our needs and half of the items on the menu were not available .

It is a very authentic restaurant with great food and helpful staff, this place also has a dedicated children's play area for the kids

This restaurant is about 17.5 km from La Colonia Centroamérica. The place is big. The food was good and decent. The service was not so good but passable. Prices are similar to other restaurants but the food is a bit better. Recommend.

If you're on the highway and hungry... Do not hesitate to stop and grab a bite to eat here. Nice covered hut with candle lighting for a nice touch.

Great family style dinner. Two plates fed 11 with leftovers. The food was fresh. The steak churrascos we're over cooked. But we had a nice dinner and great price.

We arrived at the airport and our friends that picked us up said this is the place to go! We all order bajo. Let's see how good it is. I'll be back. Also they have these girls that come by and offer drink samples of wines and liquors. Bajo is a traditional Nicaraguan food plate. My mom always made it in California but this is truly a treat to actually eat it in my native country. It was absolutely delicious! We got buenelos for dessert!

Delicious!! Service was great, will definitely come back when visiting Nicaragua! Couldn't choose one drink so I got two! Leche de Bananno and Cacao!

The service was really good. The salad I ordered could have used more veggies. But overall it was pretty good. At least on mother's day they gave top service. But the music band was not my favorite.

Restaurante Kaffe Café is a top-notch cafe located across from the main square and park, offering a wide selection of coffees and pastries. The spacious venue provides both indoor and outdoor seating with fast Wi-Fi, making it an ideal spot to relax. While some specialty coffee options may not be available, the cafe's pleasant ambiance, good service, and delicious breakfast make it a highly recommended choice.
Comfortable location with high quality coffee. Nice little rest spot in the middle of town.

The very best cafe in town sits right across from the main square and park. They offer a variety of coffees and pastries. This cafe is extremely spacious with indoor and outdoor seating and fast Wi-Fi! We tried another cafe in town first because we didn't know about this place and their Wi-Fi was very slow. This place absolutely rocks! Wonderful location! The only things that it didn't offer were chemex pour over coffee and bulletproof coffee.

Food is pretty good. But, for prices that are a bit high, other things could be better. Service is indifferent; no paper towels in bathroom, very dark entrance to bathrooms. Hard wooden chairs are not comfortable.

Restaurante Liv offers a fantastic ambiance, delectable cuisine, and a delightful weather. The restaurant provides an amazing setting, scrumptious dishes, and a pleasant climate. The atmosphere at Restaurante Liv is superb, the food is of high quality, and the weather adds to the overall appeal. The establishment boasts a great environment, tasty food options, and an enjoyable climate.
Dropped in for a quick lunch after skipping the tourist trap restaurants at the Mirador half a block away. We received quick and friendly service. Burgers were tasty and cheap, beer was cold. We will return next time we are in Catarina. I give 4 for atmosphere not because it is fancy but because it is local, facing onto a typical Nica village street and seemed to be well taken care of and clean. The table didn't wobble and that is unheard of in Nica. I believe reviewer Betty Anderson must have dined elsewhere and gotten confused as this restaurant does not have a view of the laguna and the staff were wonderful, the food was not overpriced and it was quite good.

This restaurant is terrible. The food was mediocre and overpriced and the portions were tiny. The worst part is we saw a server blatantly overcharge a group of elderly visitors, then collect and pocket the US dollars they paid him and put the correct amount of cordobas in the till. I don't want to give it even a single star but I don't think I can post it otherwise...so I will say at least the view of the laguna was good.

El Mercado Viejo Craft Market is a lively and enjoyable place to practice your bargaining skills. It's essential to come prepared with a clear idea of how much you're willing to spend, as well as having the cash readily available. The market offers a wide range of cheap clay animal figurines, which can be obtained at even lower prices by comparing competitors' rates. Avoid purchasing hammocks here, as you can find them for less than $5 on the streets.
A fun little craft market. With many choices in memorabilia to being home for friends and family. The price is fair, you may pay the tourist tax but a few cents does truly matter? Lots of kind people, and many colorful objects from bags, to crafts, to potteries, to wooden toys.
Marc-Grégor Campredon — Google review
Nice place to find hand crafted articles , I like to buy hamacas Low pressure sales , relaxing atmosphere
Francisco Erasmo Soriano Jovel — Google review
Fun market to practice haggling at. If you don't have, you're wasting your money! Splayed cash is a big tool. Know how much you want to pay before hand and have it ready. The clay animals can be purchased cheaply by listing the price of competitors. Don't buy a hammock, you can get one in the streets for less than $5, if you pay more...just don't. WARNING: Some boys sell little origami animals made from leaves. They tell you it's free, and then say "$1!" if you take it. Kind of a messed up guilt trip. Still a cute market! Beware of possible pick-poketers. Never let anyone see how much money you have in total.

I little to expensive, but nice clean and very safe great baho for lunch always ask for discounts a bit pricey
Hugo Cabrera — Google review
This market will give you a taste of some of the goods Nica has to offer. There are lots of shops with all of them featuring a lot of the same items. (Hammocks, pottery, jewelry, etc.) It's a good place to get souvenirs. It is geared for tourists though and the prices of the products will reflect that. You can negotiate with them and they'll give a new price that's "just for you". There is a market about 4 blocks from this market that has prices for locals. This place is nice for a visit at least.
Samantha Thomas — Google review
This old Spanish fort has been transformed into a vibrant local market. With hand made items , masks, and necklaces,, to various shirts, hats, shoes, and local produce. We stayed in San Juan del sur but stoped here to browse and shop. In the market there was live music , local food, great values and friendly faces. We are from America (Las Vegas) and used to the typical souvenir shop, this is definitely not it ! This craft market captures the culture and essence of the beautiful unique Nicaraguan people. Try to steer away from San Juan Del Sur , for shopping (if possible ). Most shop owners from San Juan Del Sur get all of their merchandise from here for dirt cheap and resell it to unsuspecting tourist at much higher prices. While in Nicaragua this is by far the best value for all your local souvenirs or beach wear.
erik mccall — Google review
Do you need souvenir? This is the place. It is safe, quality products, the key is to buy more than one and negotiate. The place is small but worth knowing.
Indrha Kayen — Google review
Super authentic and good prices but be ready for people to approach you selling things as you go in. Once you get in the labyrinth of shops you're fine
