Trou d' Argent

Mentioned on
Beach
Outdoor Activities
Trou d'Argent is a picturesque cove located on the rocky coastline of the Indian Ocean. Its sandy beach is surrounded by rugged cliffs and coral reefs, making it one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Accessible only via foot on the coastal trail between St Francois and Graviers, this secluded spot has a local legend that a pirate once hid his treasure here. However, despite its natural beauty, the beach has unfortunately been plagued by pollution from plastic waste.
Peaceful spot in the wilderness of the island.. a bit of a walk but the place is a wonder in itself..

Very beautiful place on earth, but for us the best one was the last one hiking from st Francois (called anse bouteil) it was the only one clean! Unfortunatelty is mega filthy! Plastic allover! As a piece of nature art is amazing. For us it took around 20min walking from the gate park and back!

Amazing beach, not to be missed when visiting Rodrigues! It does require a 15-20 minutes walk to reach there from the parking but it’s so worth it. There are also pink markings to help you find the way so watch out for those

Francois Leguat Tortoise Parc

Mentioned on
Amusement park
The Francois Leguat Tortoise Parc is a delightful destination for visitors who love nature and wildlife. The park has scheduled tours with knowledgeable guides who provide detailed explanations about the different species of tortoises, including those that are protected. Visitors should call ahead to enquire about tour times and plan to reserve at least two hours for the experience. As it is an open-air park, comfortable shoes are recommended, and visitors should also bring along liquids to stay hydrated during the tour.
Very nice place. And very nice guide who showed us around. Be aware that they have scheduled trip and guided/ explained by a person. Call before going to enquire about time for tours. Reserve 2hours for it. Might get thirsty. Bring liquid. Wear shoes, because its in the open. A good experience.
Mevin Booteeah Nako (Superbubu3088) — Google review
Fascinating insight into these amazing and intelligent animals. This park is doing very important conservation and breeding work. We had a very knowledgeable guide, both through the tortoise park and then the associated show cave. We finished our visit with a nice meal in the restaurant. All to be recommended!
Rob Gill — Google review
Really Nice visit. My son and I enjoyed it a lot. The turtles are well taken care of and the guide knew his subject with loads of details. Loved the Canyon Tilleul where the turtles were roaming around freely Very nice visit of the Grand Cave
Katty Chong — Google review
Amazing parc with full of beautiful tortoises. Learnt a lot about them and how they are working on preserving the species. Happy to 'play' with them. The cave visit was wonderful. The guide Ms. Dorothy was excellent in explaining the formation of limestones, and narrating funny stories about the shadows in the cave.
Fareez Fawdar — Google review
The guide was jovial. Lots of stairs, so be prepared esp if you are coming with kids/elderly/ people with disabilities. Different types of endemic tortoises esp those that are being protected.
Deepika Pydatalli — Google review
A place worth going for nature and animal lovers. A haven for tortoises and endemic plants. The reserve consists of a cave visit and tortoise park where they roam around freely. Guides are knowledgeable and very jovial throughout the visit. There is a long walk to the cave and park. Closed shoes, hat and water are primordial.
YASHiL — Google review
Had a great time with tortoise Entrance fee Rs430 approx its was a guided tour We have the opportunity to feed the tortoises Bring water, hat, sunscreen Very interesting Also they have sponsorship system (aprox rs1500/per year)
Snjn Bch — Google review
Excellent place to go with friends or family. The guide explained everything in fluent french and in fluent English. Reservoir very well taken care of. You have the opportunity to interact with the turtles and take photos with them. We saw 4 turtles putting eggs, a very big and old turtle (between 95-100 years old) and a wide variety of plants. There is a restaurant also serving local food. Highly recommended place to go.
Maria Ochoa de Olza — Google review
There are guided tours(takes 2 hours max) at specific times of the day. We were there for the 10.30 one. The guide explained to us the different types of tortoises and plants found there. We walked through a cave too. Make sure you have a hat, sunscreen and mosquito repellent. You can also visit the museum which was quite interesting. Keep the place(and others too) clean as I feel Rodrigues is the epitome of cleanliness.
Reema Rims — Google review
Very nice tortoise park. Was very impressed with the cave visit. Prepare yourself for 1 to 1 1/2 trip, bring some water or juice.
Shashi Bucha — Google review
This place is very beautiful and interesting. On the way trough the "canyon" you can see a lot of turtles and if you want also touch them. The second part of the tour is a visit of one of two caves on the island. Although i was the only English speaking person in a large group the guide always explained it also in English for me.
Samuel Lenk — Google review
Great place to visit. Our guide Hans was very friendly and gave lots of info about the park, the animals and the plants. Wear tennis shoes and bring a bottle of water for a comfortable experience.
Shazia Thupsee — Google review
It feels like walking through a prehistorical jurassic park, filled with tortoise and endemic plants. The cave is amazing and holds so much history. The guides are simply the best and they describe everything with such vivacity and enthusiasm. Hats off to them for this exceptional tour.

Île aux Cocos

Mentioned on
Island
Nature & Parks
Île aux Cocos is a small island that boasts of its nature reserve and white sandy beaches. The island serves as a sanctuary for various seabird colonies, making it an ideal spot for bird watching enthusiasts. A special permit is required to access the protected area of the island which is maintained by the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation. Visitors must take caution as one side of the island (Rodriguez side) is covered in plastic pollution while the other side has clear waters for swimming and exploration.
This is a must in Rodriguez, but be sire to take the voiliers to acces! Our trip was 1700rup / person wich included a stop to lunch on the tiny Catherine island. The coco island is a bird paradise and unfortunately a plastic paradise also! The wind exposed side (the Rodriguez side) of the island is filthy! The ocean side is clean with clear water! Be sure to have enough water with you besides that one provided by your boat captain!
FABIAN Mitrache — Google review
Learned about the species there... Interesting visit and had a great time in good company of the other visitors who were with us. Environmental friendly buddies would love the trip. However, not a place to spend the day swimming and eating as the birds are all over the islet and there is their droppings over the sands all around and that can be a deterrent to person who are delicate. Swimming can be tried by those who dare to but the feeling of the sands beneath the feet in the sea is weird.
Chimene Dacruz-Valery — Google review
If you are interested to see birds in their natural habit , Ile-aux-Cocos is the place to be. It is a well preserved bird sanctuary where birds can breed, roam and fly freely. The guide was also informed, fun and friendly at the same time to explain the different species. Will certainly come back one day for more adventures. Keep the place clean as much as you can when you go there.

Situated on the upper floor of a small building in the heart of Port Mathurin, L'Atelier Gourmand offers a warm and inviting atmosphere both during lunch and dinner. The attention to detail is evident in the carefully curated decor, creating a truly pleasant setting. The menu boasts delightful pizzas made with locally sourced ingredients, alongside more elaborate dishes like perfectly cooked tuna and refreshing fresh fish carpaccio.
Best restaurant in Rodrigues, in a different league. Amazing food and really great service. A true gourmet experience. Owner super friendly and you can feel his passion for the restaurant. Fully recommend this place.

Lovely lunch @ l’Atelier Gourmand! Food was really good, we enjoyed our lunch there! We ordered the fish curry and « saucisse rougaille » and both were delish!

Had a nice time at the restaurant. The menu was well explained, the team is very friendly and professional. The spaghetti carbonnara was really delicious and the octopus in the trio carpaccio tasteful with an explosion of flavors. Really a nice place to go when visiting Rodrigues Island

Very nice place, great food, great service. Ti' punch was perfect 5/5. For starters we had the smoked tuna which was delicious 5/5. Ourites tartare 4/5, also very good. For mains we had the rouget fish (fried) and the semi-cuit tuna. Both were good but not to the same level as the starters. The homemade fries were excellent. We had the pain perdu for dessert which I would recommend. So overall, very good restaurant, great food, highly recommended. Not far from 5/5, but still room to improve to reach 5/5.

Le Marlin Bleu, also known as Mega's place to Be, offers a variety of dishes such as pizzas, ginger fish, shrimp curry, and many more. They have live music and show football matches on certain weekends. Reservations are recommended on busy days. The food is delicious, and the "Cendrillon" drink is highly recommended for non-alcoholic enthusiasts. Although the waiting time can be long during peak hours, the service is excellent.
Very good fish of the day. At least two times I went there with colleagues and friends. Nice and cosy. Better for dinner, when you are not in a hurry to go back to work :))

Very poor experience.. not recommended at all.. went there on a Sunday night.. order starters and didn't get anything after 1 hour whilst other came after us and left after eating.. I would have rated the place negative but I am giving 1 star because the drinks were offered

Very efficient service, main course arrived in 30 minutes, coffee and beer immediately. The taste of fish fillet was very good. Don't forget about the ocean view.

Good food at a reasonable price. Eating on the terrace offers a great view on the sea of Baie aux Anglais.
Shaksy Guy — Google review
Since change of ownership, service has degraded. No warm welcome, owners are carefree and does not look at customers. Waiting time 30 mins + for an entrée and no proper information is available when asked about a dish. The food tastes like frozen dishes and most of the dishes are served cold. The pizza is not up to the level as the crust is like biscuit and the toppings are meagre. Definitely a big NO.
Pushkursingh Purmah — Google review
This place needs a lot of upgrading. Cold staff, dirty dishes, lomg wait - everything to ruin your mood when you are hungry. Even if the food is good, the atmosphere and treatment received by the staff will ruin your moment. Not recommended as the service is not worth the price.
Shazia Thupsee — Google review
Great food very tasty: steak with green pepper sauce served with fried fries and pumpkin mash and octopus curry served with fried rice and vegetables, perfect cocktail 'ti punch - rhum served with lemon and sugar cane syrup. The cocktail was generous in rhum and the chilly was pretty hot but was very good. Price was fair even though some may find it high compared to some other cheaper food place but value for money and worth stopping by for a good meal. Very good customer service and the owner is very friendly.

Very nice experience. Been there twice. The food is excellent, loved the octopus salad.
Fateema Capery — Google review
We’re not pleased at all by the service. We waited for about half an hour for our drinks to be served, also about 1hour for our foods. This was not beyond about our expectations. Despite the first day we came to have lunch here, within half an hour we got our food and drinks compared to today. Is it somehow because we’re a group of Mauritians? They don’t look pleased to serve us, without a smile nothing just serious. Overall the food was good apart from they didn’t serve the egg that was suppose to be on the top of the Korean rice, we had to ask for it

Went on a busy day so we had to make a reservation and we got no issues regarding that. The food was delicious and I will 100% recommend the drink called "Cendrillon" for the non-alcoholic lovers. The waiting time was just a bit too long, which I understand on a busy day, but nonetheless the service was great.

I sampled the octopus curry, a notable dish from Chez Madame LaRose. The flavors were delectable and the seafood was truly authentic and fresh. The owner of the establishment exhibited exceptional hospitality, and the service provided was commendable. The homemade meals were of high quality and reasonably priced for both their excellence and generous portions. I highly recommend this restaurant as it is known for its delightful Rodriguan menus as well as its refreshing homemade lemonade.
One of our favorites in Rodrigues .. TRUE local cuisine!
Tobias Thomaa — Google review
I wouldn't suggest this place. The owner lacks manners, and I'm surprised there are positive reviews. We ordered octopus curry, but it wasn't fresh; they used dried octopus instead. We wanted an extra plate for two kids to share, but she refused. The service is terrible, the main person lacks manners, and the place is dirty and smelly.
Priteesh Kissoondhery — Google review
Food was good but the level has either downgraded since our last visit in 2015 or we reached just before the closure. The level of service from the responsible is still a pity, not at all a customer care person. Still recommended for the good meal but better ensure that you do a reservation first so that you are not unwelcome upon arrival.
Chimene Dacruz-Valery — Google review
Sadly, experience one of the culinary nightmare. Ordered a fish curry with rice and salade. Unfortunately found a big chunk of hair in the rice their solution was to swap the rice for stale bread instead. Without questioning the price is exorbitant !!

Ohhh my favorite place for Rodriguan Menus and fresh lemonade! Dolly you rock!
Nehemie Gentil — Google review
We have been there many, many times over the years. It is probably one of the best in the island, if not the best. The restaurant is about 5 minutes walk from Cotton Bay hotel and Johnny, the bar man at Cotton Bay is the owner's brother. The food looks just like in the pictures. The meat comes with rice, eggplant pickles (to die for) and lentils. We had a choice between fish curry, crab à la sauce rouge and a couple of other things. I had the crab and it was divine. The others had fish curry and they over the moon. I remember I had the octopus curry when I went in 2017 and that was yummy as well. All dishes are Rs325. I would probably order in advance by phone as the meals do they about 30 mins or more to come out - I finally got Madame Rose's number (58761350). And probably a good idea to watch out for the bees :) Only regret is that we did not go a second time during our stay this time but we will be back next year!

If you're looking for a truly Rodriguezian dining experience by the beach, Chez Solange et Robert is the place to go. The menu features delicious grilled fish and garlic bread, as well as grilled lobster available upon request. Solange and Robert, the welcoming hosts, serve up some of the best food on the island.
I am just just overseeing the lunch XLD . Solange and Robert are two wonderful people who serves the best food on the island is a wonderful beach shack. It's semi office when I have to attend my work in St Francois. A must try and definitely recommend to anyone visiting Rodrigues !

Disappointed and the place is surely overrated. One of the main issue was the flies, feels like hundreds of them...we have ask for something like a candle to deter the flies a bit, but they didn't have any or anything else. They were on the food and even getting into our soft drink bottles. For those who don't eat pork, note that everything is cooked on the same grill. Foods are expensive. Only thing that seems worth it was the fish ('poisson corn', see picture) was at rs400 approx. Everything else was overpriced. Nothing comes with bread or salad or fries. Half chicken leg rs100, just half with no sides. Also, be careful when she serve the fish, caused we ordered two 'poisson corn’ at she gave us only one and serve another type of fish. Grilled shrimps menu was only like 4 small shrimps (but good flavour). Lets not forget the grumpy attitude of the lady too🤦 Unfortunately overall experience for me personally, it was bad. ❌

Best food we ate in Rodrigues. Large variety of fish. Prawns and chicken also available. The seafood or chicken is grilled on a charcoal grill which is the traditional grilling method in Rodrigues. The fish was excellent as well as the prawns and chicken. The food is served with rice, garlic butter bread and salad. We've been to several restaurants in Rodrigues and this was the best by far. If you want to try the typical Rodrigues grilled food then this is the place to go to! Do not be bothered by the look of the place. The location is great as well as it's located just along st francois beach after Tekoma.
