I was very impressed by the quality, friendliness and service. The food was delicious, my burger was juicy and perfectly cooked and the chicken schnitzel looked delicious. The waitress was on the ball, friendly and very helpful. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices and would definitely recommend you stop by; If you're in the area, I can't see any reason not to.

You always find the most unexpected surprises when you venture off the beaten track! This is a typical small-town restaurant: unpretentious, lots of regulars, warm and super-friendly owners, a resident bistro cat and some wholesome food that's cooked with real love. The homemade pasta is superb, and the fish was cooked beautifully. Well worth a visit.

Excellent, excellent, excellent! Take a drive and do yourself a favour and come dine in one of our true gems. Great people, great place, exceptional cuisine... Book! And early - there's limited capacity, and word gets out quickly!

This is the second time we’ve had the pleasure of dining here while passing through town. Owners Henry & Michelle ensure it’s wonderful experience all round. The quality of the food has been exceptional on both occasions 👌🏻 Looking forward to our next visit.

My wife and I stopped in as we had been told there was fresh pasties de nata. The vibe was very relaxed and friendly. My wife gravitated towards their in house cat immediately. The pasties were warm and delicious. We had a reservation else were so we weren't able to try any of their other offerings. I look forward to the opportunity to do so.

Bar
Zamani Grill in Calitzdorp is a charming establishment with a tiny bar, making it the smallest on Route 62. Visitors can indulge in tasty milkshakes served in ostrich eggs and savor delicious pizza and Karoo lamb paired with a uniquely sweet barbecue sauce. This eatery offers a one-of-a-kind experience with its distinctive setup and friendly staff.
This is our 2nd visit. The previous one was about two years ago. We asked the waitress whether the milkshakes are still as big as the previous time and she answered affirmative. We then asked her whether the wine per glass is also still as generous as the previous time, laughing she answered - yes. They still didn't disappoint. Pet friendly, they didn't mind our two small doggies.

At R165 for a raw pizza...totally rip-off. Come to cape Town so we can teach u how to make pizza. It was literally a piece of raw dough with toppings urgh stay away!

Understandably they have to deal with load shedding, but 1 hour to cook pork chops. Could have said so in advance. When the pork chops arrived they were dry and chewy. Complained to the waiter and her response was " that's pork chops" while she ran away not allowing a chance for me to digest that comment. Mentioned it to management, but not interested. Take it or leave it is the attitude. Well, At least I have options. I'll leave it. Route 62 Smallest pub. The best part of the meal... the beer was ice cold and the red wine was good quality.

Definitely a must. When on Route 62 make sure to stop at Zamani grill where you can find the smallest bar on Route 62. Have a drink and some of their delicious food. Enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality!

A very unique setup. Even though the bar is small, the eating areas are unique and people assisting us are friendly. Worth going and prices are reasonable.

Lovely spot with a lovely little bar. Literally the smallest bar on the R62. We drank Milkshakes out of ostrich eggs, had pizza and epic karoo lamb with a uniquely sweet BBQ sauce. Usually I dont prefer BBQ sauce but this was lekker.

It is a delightful experience to sit on the porch and observe the leisurely passage of time, while the nearby church clock chimes every quarter. The chicken pie I tried was enjoyable, with a generous filling and mushroom sauce that received high praise. Additionally, I appreciate their accommodation for small dogs as indicated by their gate sign. This restaurant provides an extraordinary atmosphere, with Divan showcasing his exceptional culinary skills and Ampie's warm and welcoming nature contributing to a sense of belonging.
Quaint cafe with porch seating so you can watch the world go by. The best vegetarian selection in town, the vegan wrap wasn’t on the menu but it was amazing!

Accommodation was comfortable, and good value for money. We were in the annex - has a bit of a 'backyard' outlook. Host was friendly and welcoming. We were disappointed that we didn't get breakfast - the reviews rated it highly - he had given his staff the day off, which is fine, but he only told us after we'd paid in full and didn't give us a discount. We think he could have done better here. Best check this before you book. Otherwise a nice place.
mark borchers — Google review
Very nice to sit on "die stoep" and to watch the day slowly moving pass, with the church clock couting every 15 minutes. We ordered chicken pie, which was nice - filling was generous and the mushroom sauce is getting a thumbs up. Thank you for accommodating our little dog. The sign at the gate reads that if you have a pet with you, you must just inform the owners, so that they can put away their own pets.

Great service, fabulous food and just a ridiculously good cake to round off lunch. We were a group of 14 adventure bikers, we were warmly welcomed and accommodated. Everyone left with full bellies and big smiles.

A great home-from-home experience that I thoroughly enjoyed; and what-a-breakfast! I loved being directly across the road from the (I presume) Groot Kerk and its chiming and eccentric clock every fifteen minutes.

What an amazing experience... out of this world! Divan is an excellent chef with magical food and Ampie is so friendly. We felt so welcomed. Think I am going to move to this town.

Food was superb!! We had lunch and went back for dinner. Ponzu bowl was delicately cooked, quinoa was perfectly steamed, Beef pastrami burger was nicely laid with fresh crisp vegetables even though the day was scorching. Generous portion of mushrooms for the vegetarian pasta and chicken chorizo pasta was quite a different mix, both lip smacking creamy. Love the setup and the peaceful environment with the church bells

Italian restaurant
Giovanni's Italian Country Kitchen is a charming and welcoming establishment located on the outskirts of Calitzdorp. It offers delicious Italian cuisine, with particularly tasty pizzas. The restaurant has a delightful outdoor deck where guests can enjoy their meals while taking in the stunning mountain views behind Calitzdorp. They have convenient opening hours until 4pm, but also accept takeaway orders by phone until 6pm. The staff are friendly and efficient, providing excellent service to guests.
Easy to find. Welcome friendly Wendy makes the moment feel perfect. Personal service and care. Great a 🍾 of local vino or three, all Carlitzdorp wines are great. Food is up there with the best. Pizza we choose Chilled afternoon on the veranda just soaking up the atmosphere. Great value and joy. Dogs are allowed if well behaved. Thank you. Ciao. Paul
Paul Hildyard — Google review
The owner/manager was super friendly. Allowing us to sit outside on the veranda with an amazing view, while preparing our take out pizza. Pizza was good (but with any chef's worse nightmare - unfortunately there were a few long hairs on one of the pizzas in the dough) - so sorry for that - some of those unforseen one day kitchen disasters . The other pizza, though was very good.
Colette Weilbach — Google review
What a delight to find en route! a gem hidden in the country. Delicious authentic Italian cooking and the warmest hosts! Impeccable standards! The view from the patio is perfect!

We were pleasantly surprised when we stopped in Calitzdorp for lunch. The very first place we spotted was Giovanni's and as both my husband and I love Italian food, we decided to lunch there. Beautiful views of the farm and dams while we dined on delicious, authentic Italian cuisine. My husband opted for a pizza while I chose a pasta and both were to die for. The hosts were so friendly and Giovanni himself came to check that the meal was to our satisfaction. Definitely worth the stop and definitely make it a leisurely one.
Louise Pretorius — Google review
Wonderful, owner run italian restaurant, simple menu of recipes created daily by Giovanni, simple flavours, but deliciously authentic. Tagliatelle al ragu, followed by semi freddo, just delicious. They are not licensed so BYO. A beautiful spot that is a welcome escape from heat of the Klein Karoo.
Paul Maciel — Google review
A small, unassuming and friendly place on the outskirts of Calitzdorp. Stopped here for takeaways on a road trip (which we've been tempted to do before but always miss opening hours). Since we didn't dine in, I can't comment on the full menu but the pizzas were delicious and we could wait outside on the deck with an amazing view of the mountains behind Calitzdorp. Opening hours are until 4pm but you can phone ahead for takeaways until 6pm, which is great to know. Delightful receptionist who greeted us and took our order. Highly recommended.

Die Bakhuis is a fantastic restaurant that offers delicious and authentic food. With a knowledgeable owner who is actively involved in the kitchen, they serve a range of mouthwatering dishes such as their exceptional Butter chicken, lamb specialties including Lamb Pizza and Lamb Pie. Although they were awaiting their liquor license during the visit, patrons were allowed to bring their own wine. The location boasts stunning views and provides both indoor and outdoor seating options with friendly and professional service.
A place that has stunning views, sit in or outside with friendly professional service, their food is presented on a blackboard menu and is affordable for most. The restaurant has a shop inside filled with local produce like jams and wine from the nearby farmers. I would highly recommend this place.

Great spot to stop off for a bite to eat. Right on the main road but feels rural. Lovely views. I had the most delicious omelette and a cup of Truth coffee. What more could you want.

Stopped there on a Sunday for lunch. What an absolute gem of a place. There was a wonderful lady singing and playing the guitar. It has been a long time since I have heard such great songs sung beautifully. The pizza was great and the freshly squeezed juices were fantastic. If going through Calitzdorp do not waste your time at any other eatery this place will surprise you.

Sat 20th January 2024 we found just about everything closes around 4pm in Calitzdorp so were directed to Die Bakhuis. It turned out to be a gem as the location was really cute, the staff were outstanding and their food excellent. It made our evening. Only recommendations is better drinks list. Thank you.

Good real food - loved it! They are still fairly new, but know their stuff and the owner is hands on in the kitchen. Their Butter chicken is one of the best we've had. They do amazing lamb dishes, including an memorable Lamb Pizza, and Lamb Pie. (At the time of our visit still awaiting their liquor license, but can take your own wine.)
