Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is a place of unbelievable natural beauty. Whilst the southern Australian island is famed for its fascinating history, it is the area’s pristine wildlife that remains a big draw for tourists. It is home to roughly 100,000 kangaroos — more than anywhere else on Earth, and has also become a hot spot for whale-watchers. With rocky coastlines and untouched beaches to boot, Kangaroo Island is a must-visit destination for lovers of the great outdoors.

Flinders Chase National Park

Mentioned on
National park
Nature & Parks
Flinders Chase National Park, located in the western end of Kangaroo Island, is a protected area that features a visitor center and geological formations. It is regarded as one of South Australia's top national parks and is mostly covered by mallee scrub with tall sugar-gum forests around Rocky River and the Ravine des Casoars. Despite being affected by bushfires in 2007 which burned around 100,000 acres of bush, the park continues to recover steadily.
What a beautiful Park. So much regrowth after the bush fire. Lash once again. Remarkable Rocks and the Admirals Arch are pretty spectacular. Well maintained roads. Heaps of wildlife on them at dawn and dusk though.

Typical of National parks an entry fee but not too expensive $12.50 adults $10 consession great visit and worth the experience
Karen Hedger — Google review
Such an amazing day out. You can drive to all the key sights if needed or there are a range of walking tracks. Visitors were all very considerate of people taking photos which ensured everyone was able to get a great shot. Bathrooms are a little unpleasant due to how remote they are and you have to bring enough food and water for the day.
Alice — Google review
Beautiful national Park with three main attractions. Roads are in good condition so you can move around without a 4W. Ladi at the information desk said she wasn't there to provide any information, but tickets. God bless.
Bruno Rodr?guez Armesto — Google review
Amazing place and certainly the crown of Kangaroo Island. Well signposted, easy to get around and awesome views. Helpful staff, good amenities. Take your food and water into park but take your rubbish out. Great to see the regeneration after the fires of 3 years ago.

A must visit place in Kangaroo Island. Admiral's arch, Remarkable Rocks and Weier's Cove are located in the Park.
Hashara Devinuwara — Google review
Flinders Chase National Park is a true sanctuary for nature enthusiasts! From rugged coastlines to lush forests, this park offers a diverse array of landscapes that will leave you in awe. The Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch are absolute must-sees. The surreal shapes of the rocks against the backdrop of the ocean are truly breathtaking, and the natural bridge of Admirals Arch is a marvel of nature's craftsmanship. The park's wildlife is another highlight. Kangaroos, wallabies, and echidnas roam freely, and if you're lucky, you might spot a sleepy koala high up in the eucalyptus trees. The trails are well-marked and offer varying levels of difficulty, catering to both casual strollers and avid hikers. Don't miss out on the chance to explore the hidden gems tucked away off the beaten path. The Visitor Centre provides valuable information about the park's history, flora, and fauna. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, ready to assist with any inquiries or recommendations. Whether you're a solo traveler, a family on vacation, or a group of friends seeking adventure, Flinders Chase National Park is a destination that will leave a lasting impression. Highly recommended for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and experience the beauty of South Australia's wilderness.

Remarkable rocks are so unique and great view of the Indian Ocean! Nice walk as well!

What an awesome place we have on our back door step. It's truly worth going. So much to see and do. One of the many amazing things to see on Kangaroo Island. You'd need around a week here, to really be able to see all this amazing place has to offer. Book a holiday now you won't regret it.
Tim Austin — Google review
The highlight of KI, don’t miss it. Dogs are not allowed. There are restrooms but no picnic area
Sherry dezvarei — Google review
Stunning! What an amazing site. Huge rock formations from years and years ago. Only negative would be that there's no actual rope or fence to stop you from going to the prohibited area, yes there's a map with markings but doesn't really help. Definitely a must visit.
Amy — Google review
This National Park on Kangaroo Island is worth visiting, with beautiful scenery. Admirals Arch, Remarkable Rocks and Cape Du Couedic Lighthouse are amazing.
Lu Liu — Google review
Well worth the entry fee and you are supporting the new infrastructure that had to go in after the fires. Helpful and informative staff that showed the best spots to go to. The views, the seals and the fantastic board walks made the visit so worthwhile. One for the bucket list. Can be windy as its very exposed so a jacket or a cardigan is a good suggestion.

Seal Bay Conservation Park

Mentioned on
National park
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Seal Bay Conservation Park is a natural heritage area located in South Australia, home to approximately 1,000 Australian sea lions. It is the third-largest of its kind in Australia and offers visitors the opportunity to observe these animals up close but not interact with them. The park features self-guided boardwalk tours or guided beach tours led by National Parks rangers. Visitors can purchase tickets at the visitors centre, which provides an overview and background on the sea lions.
We did the tour. $38 per person. Only thing is you can walk on the beach with the guide it’s so windy I almost Didn’t hear what the guide talked about. And you still need to keep the distance from the sea lions 10-15m . but we are so lucky that a sea lion just walk to me, that was so close around 1-2 meters. If you do the self-guided tour you can still view the sea lions if you lucky enough , you may also see very close. As some sea lions are moving on the beach. A lot of them just sleeping under the broad-walk.
Catherine B — Google review
Amazing experience to see seals in their natural environment lounging around on the sand. Tip - I strongly recommend doing the guided tour which means you get access to the beach and up close and personal. The boardwalk is great but it’s not the same if you want to get close to them.
Bumble Bee — Google review
Take the opportunity to go with the Ranger down to the beach and see the seals close up. You can go for a self guided walk however you will be restricted to the boardwalk, you will be able to see them however you will not get as close as the tour. The Ranger is knowledgeable in relation to the seals and that enables you to have a better understanding as why so many of them are on the beach at any one time. Make sure you check the times of the tours. Would suggest booking a time slot to make sure you get the one you want. There was a limit to how many were taken to the beach at any one time. Surprisingly they are found within the dunes, so it is not always just the beach where you will find them. Ample parking at the conservation area, toilet amenities. Worth the admission.
mark m — Google review
#1 must do if you come to KI. We got a picture perfect day in June in breeding time so lots of activity about the beach and shore. We took the guided tour and it was well worth it. We got very close, legally too!!
Greg McKeon — Google review
Didn't do the guided tour as it is more expensive. However if you want close up experience on beach that's the best option..I was able to watch seals from a platform at a distance looking over the dunes & beach. Such beautiful colours in water & coastline. Fee to enter National park before proceeding to see Seals. Ramp is safe and easy to walk on with some descent then return uphill.
Sheryl Lambert — Google review
Incredible experience led by our guide Mitch. Informative, good humoured and an absolute delight to share space with these beautiful creatures. A fabulous infrastructure to enable great visibility whilst ensuring the sea lions are protected.
BR Keen — Google review
This is a great place that is dedicated to the conservation and research of the Sea lion colony. The money paid for admission goes to the research and conservation of the Sea lions and is well worth the visit. The walkways are all wheelchair accessible and go down close to the beach. You can see fairly well from the walkways and we were lucky enough to see some Sea lions really close to the walkways. We did pay the extra to go down to the beach with a guide and it was highly worth it as Mia was extremely knowledgeable and passionate and we learnt so much.
Jo Seaby — Google review
Love this place. Lovely views. Peaceful place for seals and fun to watch them. Was a spur of the moment decision to stop in here so only went on the boardwalk but it was still good, but next time will do the guided tour. I remember my dad taking me on one when I was we younger and being able to be so close to the seals was breath taking.
Dennie Taylor — Google review
We paid for the guided tour to go down on the beach and the guide was really good and knowledgeable. Heaps of sea lions to see. The boardwalk is great and makes it easy for most to go to the viewing platforms
Samantha Buttery — Google review
It was an amazing experience getting to see so many sea lions up close. They looked so adorable and squishy!!! I saw a baby sea lion snuggling up to its mother and it was the cutest thing ever 🦭🥺. The guided tour was excellent and very informative. I highly recommend it to everyone. I learned so many interesting things about the lives of sea lions. They have a tougher life than I ever imagined 😢. I pray that their predators will leave them alone and that they will always find plenty of food in the sea to sustain themselves.
Mandie L. — Google review
Definitely worth the visit and good to go with a guide so you can go on the beach and closer to the seals. We took some nice pictures and it absolutely amazing and fun to watch all the seals relaxing from the long journey out and the little ones playing around. We got there by car and I recommend renting one to go around and everywhere you want . Great day out with the family and boyfriend.
Elisabeth Spatari — Google review
Amazing! Guided tour is a must-do. The broad walk and lookout is beautiful, but being able to get on the sand up close to the seals was so special! Well worth the price. 45 minutes and an incredibly informative, friendly guide. The information centre/gift shop is great too!
Abbey Higgs — Google review
What a great job these dedicated people are doing to protect an endangered species. We took the guided tour and the boardwalk and had the great good fortune to see a new born pup. Week worth a visit and your support
Graham Drage — Google review
Beautiful place. I don't get it why people complain about the prices: if it is too expensive, don't do it. The prices are mentioned on their website. The 45 minute guided tour was amazing and we've received so much information. I'm glad the beach is protected so that the tourists can't annoy the seals on their own. We got very close to the seals, sometimes up to 4m and it was wonderful to see them.
An Ni — Google review
We need to take a guided tour to experience the closer look of Sea Lions and know more about them. It's not mandatory to take a guided tour but if you take it, you will enjoy watching Sea lions more closely.
HRISHIKESHA TIMMANAYAKAR — Google review
This was an amazing experience, the seals were livelier then ever, we were able to get upclose shots and to watch them play, fight and nurse.
Braden Ryan — Google review
Did the self guided walk. It’s just a short boardwalk over the dunes to the beach where the seals rests. The weather wasn’t great on the day we were there but I still enjoyed it and get to see a 2 weeks old pup which is super cute ! Entry fee is not cheap however hoping money is put to good use in conserving the place.
J H (justher) — Google review
My wife and I went on the guided tour to see the Australian sea lions. What a great, and very interesting experience. We could not believe how close we got to them, and how beautiful they are, especially the pups. Ron, the guide, was a font of information and made the tour even more enjoyable .
David Tandy — Google review
fabulous guided seal lion tour plus boardwalk - a must thing to do. Very informative and wonderful to see the seals in their natural habitat. Staff were wonderful - very accommodating, especially as we missed our pre booked timeslot, and they managed to slot us in the next time frame.

Had the best experience with Sealink tours to Kangaroo Island. Our coach driver Scott lives on the island and knew all the history and places to see. Well worth every $$$. Highly recommended doing the coach. You may be with a group but it's awesome

Today we had the opportunity to be guided by Mitch who took us to visit the seals on this beautiful beach on Kangaroo Island. Thank you to Mitch who shared his great passion and vast knowledge of the seals and his Island. This guided tour is an absolute must if you visit KI.

Raptor Domain

Mentioned on
Wildlife refuge
Nature & Parks
Raptor Domain is a wildlife park that showcases a variety of birds of prey such as eagles and falcons. The centre, which is run by a family, provides educational shows that are both entertaining and informative for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy the Birds of Prey Free-Flight Presentation where they can witness amazing tricks performed by the birds while also having the opportunity to hold various birds including an enormous wedge-tailed eagle.
If you can, book a private show well in advance. You can choose the birds you want to see. The handlers work with you talking about their birds. The public shows are great. Informative rather than didactic and answer questions from the audience as well as explaining about each of the birds in the show. Birds only do one show, either the 11:30 or the 2:30. Reptile shows are also done daily.
Lin Eccleston — Google review
We booked a Private Experience with the birds. The guides were amazing and gave us a variety of birds to hold. It was amazing to hold them, and see them up and close. We also booked for the Presentation. This was well presented, and there is interaction with the birds during the presentation. Had a great time.
DAVID BOTTRELL — Google review
Worth every penny of the entrance fee. Make sure you check the opening times as well as the show times for all shows they offer. The birds of prey show is fantastic. Spend the extra money to have Jack, the wedge tail eagle, stand on your arm and look you square in the eye. The handlers really know their stuff and were very informative around all of the birds they displayed to the audience. There was plenty of hands on experience as well, don't be scared, put your hand up or out in this instance.
mark m — Google review
We did both the birds of prey and the reptile presentations and they were fantastic. Interaction with the birds and reptiles were amazing, the best we have ever done. Can not recommend this fantastic place highly enough
Sharon Black — Google review
We had a wonderful private close up view on 30.03.2024. In total we saw 2 regal eagles, an owl, a kookaburra, a frog mouth bird and a brightly shaded parrot. However we also were met by a charming tarnish-brown coloured spider and a tiger snake which was apparently the 3rd most venomous snake in Australia! So over all, it should be stated that Raptor Domain should be your first destination on Kangaroo Island.
liu jingxing — Google review
Blake and Chantel did absolutely fantastic job. Worth every cent to watch and learn. Blew my mind being able to buy ticket to have Owl plus Eagle on my arm. I was surprised at how heavy 3.5 kg can get on arm with eagle.
Elaine B — Google review
What an incredible afternoon. We were fortunate enough to be the only guests for the mother's day pm show. With the eagle hold add on the staff made it an absolutely memorable day. The animals were amazing to watch and interact with and the stories of how the staff help recouping them.
Devin Blau — Google review
Check times as you can get the birds and reptile sessions almost back to Back. Enjoyed viewing and holding some interesting birds and reptiles here - owls falcons cockatoos kookaburras wedge tails all come out to play. We also held some lizards and pythons. Great for kids to see these birds and reptiles up close. There’s a gift shop with limited food so pack a quick lunch if you’re doing both sessions.
Matt — Google review
Fantastic place. I was lucky enough to do a private experience, and it was well worth it. Note that the displays (11:30, and 2:30 for birds, and 1pm for reptiles) are all separate bookings. So you book for either, or both. The Park, is not a walk around park, it’s the presentations only, so it’s a nice easy thing to do. Staff are lovely too. Chloe was great!
Tee Jay — Google review
Highly recommended! Plenty of opportunities for volunteer to get close to some awesome birds. Those sitting at the front get to have an owl hopping from one person to another. It is possible to pay extra to hold an owl or an eagle at the end of the show.
Kent Hoi — Google review
A great place to learn about our wildlife. Very informative and interactive. Pleasant surroundings and wonderful staff who really care for the birds and wildlife.
Chris McKenna — Google review
Awesome show for adults and kids alike. My 3.5year old really enjoyed all the birds even (or especially) when they didn't behave. The presenters were great and very knowledgeable and my wife and I learned alot from them. It's a fair price for an hour show and if the crowd is small enough you'll get owl time on your lap and maybe let a bird land on your gloved arm. Absolutely a must stop if you have time in KI.
Greg Travassos — Google review
Cute venue with lots of charm. The staff have always been accommodating, friendly and energetic, and I've attended both the Raptor and Reptile shows and must say, they do not disappoint! It's doubly worth the money since it's an animal sanctuary and you get the sense that it all goes towards a good cause. Both wildlife shows were incredibly informative, engaging, interactive, cozy, and re-instills a sense of gratitude and wonder for our fellow creatures! I would recommend as a great follow-up from a seal bay tour, friendly for kids and adults alike! They also sell basic coffee and sandwiches, which is good in a pinch. Worth mentioning since nearby venues (Little Sahara, Seal Bay) don't have much in the ways of food or coffee, and it saved us needless driving to be able to eat there.
Sofia Vermeulen — Google review
Great place to get up close and personal with some magnificent Australian birds. The show takes less people than some of the bigger bird shows we’ve been to, which makes it feel like you get more time and closer to the birds. We all got to touch the birds during the show. I think the barn owl was the highlight.
Andrew Goulding — Google review
Almost passed this up on our visit to KI and so glad we didn’t. Had a great time with our 11 year old granddaughter and the show was highly educational. Holding the owl afterwards was well worth the additional cost.
Grant Melocik — Google review
We attended the birds of prey presentation. Enjoyed very much. We were able to hold birds and have several different birds presented. Bird handlers are very knowledgeable and provided lots of insight into habitat and important characteristics of each bird. Highly recommend a visit.

Admirals Arch

Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Admirals Arch, a natural rock formation on Kangaroo Island, is a popular attraction in Flinders Chase National Park. The arch was formed through erosion and is situated on the southwest portion of the island. It offers stunning views of the ocean and is frequented by wildlife. Visitors can access Admirals Arch via a 15-minute return walk along well-maintained boardwalks that are dotted with information boards about the environment and other attractions.
A really cool spot at the south west tip of the kangaroo island. Although you have to take a bit of effort to get here from the mainland, if you ever visit kangaroo island please visit this spot. The place is naturally beautiful and packed with seals who will be sun bathing and minding their own business. It's a good blend of natural beauty with some wildlife action with huge waves from the Southern Ocean slamming against the shoreline. Visit Kangaroo Island and contribute towards its revival after the bushfires of 2019.

Easy walk on timber platforms from carpark to the viewing platform. Enjoying the open landscape along the way and splashes of powerful waves hinting on the rocks. This natural formation worthy the walk.

The place is simply breathtaking. Love the walking trails that head towards the beach. You’d be amazed what nature and weather erosion can do when you get to the end. Word of advice, wear something thick, the wind there is no joke. LOL. 😅🥶

It’s beautiful! So many seals resting moving about! My kids really enjoyed climbing all those stairs! Seeing seals for the first time was amazing! If you ever visit KI be sure to visit this beautiful and gorgeous place!
Sarah Jay — Google review
Beautiful creation. Deep blue sea and big ocean waves crashing into rocks. The arch looks interesting after years of erosion by the waves, wind and rain. Many seals and birds resting on the rocks. You have to take the stairs to go down and see this place. Not to be missed. Plenty of parking space.
Noorzidah M N — Google review
Cool arch created along the ocean’s edge. The boardwalk from the parking lot is a nice scenic walk. You actually walk across the arch to get to the stairway down to the water’s edge. This is also a popular spot for seals.

This place has amazing atmosphere, beautiful garden seating area. Their cocktails were amazing! The food truck outside serves amazing pizza, very thin and crispy base but so tasty! Definitely a must in KI. We went twice while in KI. Chip wedges was super nice and seasoned well.

What a superb experience at Kangaroo Island Spirits. Our best distillery experience yet- and we are aficionados 🤣 Welcomed to the Premium Tasting by the amazing Beck. She was great at story telling to impart her expert knowledge. She was fun and genuinely passionate. Absolutely loved it! What a splendid experience! We did 2 hours of Gin Blending experience class and every minute and cent spent was worth it! Our instructor- Ms. Mar gave us a good background of the distilling industry and the distilling process before diving into the ‘practical’! At the end, we left with a bottle of our own taste of blended gin!! May look a bit expensive but it’s 100% worth it! And yes, the bar, food joint and the garden were just a cherry on the cake! Thank you guys and keep up with the good work.

Gin and liquor tasting was amazing! $35 in total for all tasting is a great price. Cocktails were great too. Their espresso martini was unique and amazing! They also have a food truck at the back which had great food. The seating and views were awesome 👏

Worth a visit. You know, the place is lovely and the gin is alright. The gin is pre bottled in flavours, they pour the serving out and add fruit. The tasting was okay - average amount for the price. Food closes really early - so be aware of that. The staff are pretty friendly. The brewery around the corner just has a better vibe.

We Had a mid morning premium gin and tonic flight with Lisa as our amazing pilot ! Her knowledge of the product and its History is out of this world ! Shared a brilliant Friday afternoon and evening at K.I.S.. We had the pleasure of being taken through an amazing tasting and cocktail making experience by wonderful Ma including tour of distillery and garden. Great gin and spirits to choose from. The gin flight was super tasty. I also enjoyed the spirit flight they offered as well. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The pizza was super tasty as well. The pizza is enough for one person. A couple should probably order two. Highly recommend visiting! Also they had a koala in the tree outside!

Great atmosphere, just a really lovely setting to sit and enjoy some drinks and food, taste some gorgeous gin and be surrounded by nature. The dogs loved it too.

The O-gin is the winner - was a great infusion of the local flora, ask the front of house for a look and smell of this plant so you can find some when hiking the island. Great botanical garden. I rated the Old Tom as the 2nd best. I think if the weather is mild, ask for no ice so you can get the full flavours. We ordered one pallet with tonic and one with sparkling.

What a beautiful colourful and bright venue ! Dragged my partner here . He isn’t a gin fan or liqueur fan. We had a short blast here though 😂 Wonderful service , I really enjoyed the gin. The whiskey aged barrel Gin was my favourite and as it happens my partners was the Anisette . Which unfortunately we were told is being discontinued. We grabbed two bottles of this . Definitely do yourself a favour and spend longer than we did here and have a feed also. Highly recommend
Fleur Fitton — Google review
Venue, staff and service were all top notch, loved the spicy liqueur. Great garden to walk through with all the gin spices. Tasting paddle prices were reasonable and drinks prices seemed standard too. The bottle prices were very expensive for gins that tasted quite generic.

Wine cellar
Dudley Wines, a family-owned winery that has been operating for more than two decades, is situated in a stunningly picturesque location overlooking the northern coast of Kangaroo Island. The winery's increasing recognition among Australian wine enthusiasts recently earned it the Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category at the South Australian Tourism Awards.
We stopped here on our first day on Kangaroo Island and we were so delighted with their quick service, hot delicious pizzas, tasty cheese board, divine wines and beautiful surrounding landscapes! Highly recommend. Its the right price for the quality and quantity!
Barkha — Google review
A bit of a mixed experience. Great location with awesome views. A well designed cellar door experience that is family friendly. Plenty to do, I'd have liked to try the driving range but it was a little too popular. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. So, why only three stars? Well, we went there hoping for an early lunch only to be told that they were expecting a group and were not taking any food orders. When we left an hour later, the group had just arrived in the car park, surely a couple of pizzas wouldn't have put too much of a strain on things. We settled for a tasting platter. The wines of course are the important thing, well worth giving them a try, they are a solid, reliable range. Nothing really stood out, The Stud is a nice Shiraz as it should be at $88, probably the highlight though was at the other end of the range - a $30 pink that was bright, refreshing and full of passion-fruit notes.

Lovely views. Wine was nice. Service was a bit of a ‘dud’! Didn’t find them helpful. It was fully booked for lunch but we were there early so all the tables were unoccupied. They could have said - you can use the table but have to vacate by xx time. That would have made the experience more pleasant.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Dudley Wines, and I must say, it was an incredible experience from my perspective. The first thing that struck me was the mesmerizing view. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by breathtaking scenery that seemed to stretch for miles. The combination of the building interior and the sparkling ocean created a picture-perfect backdrop for a winery. The service at Dudley Wines was exceptional, and the staff made me feel right at home. From the moment I stepped foot on the premises, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The staff members were knowledgeable about their wines and took the time to answer all of my questions. They even offered personalized recommendations based on my preferences, which I really appreciated. Their friendliness and attentiveness added an extra layer of enjoyment to my visit. Now, let's talk about the wines themselves. As a wine enthusiast, I was delighted by the wide variety of options available at Dudley Wines. From crisp and refreshing whites to bold and robust reds, they had something for every palate. I particularly enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, which showcased the winery's expertise in producing exceptional cool-climate wines. Each sip was a delight, and I couldn't resist purchasing a few bottles to take home. Overall, my experience at Dudley Wines was nothing short of extraordinary. The combination of the stunning view, friendly service, and outstanding wines made it a memorable visit. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wine-tasting experience in a beautiful setting. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or just starting to explore the world of wines, Dudley Wine will surely leave a lasting impression.

We had to stay on KI an extra day when our ferry was cancelled, so we took the opportunity to visit Dudley Wines. What a delightful experience! We had a lovely wine tasting, and a delicious pizza for lunch. We purchased a dozen mixed bottles and they were promptly delivered in a week! Thank you so much!

This place is seriously 10/10. The food was amazing and the service was out of this world! We ended up buying a bottle of the ‘Dudley Ripple’ it was delicious. My partner also tipped the young lad working there as his service was just amazing. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much guys x

Recommended to book to come here. The place is rather hidden, with unsealed road drive for a while, makes you wonder if you are in the right place but it was worth it. The place has amazing view of the hills and the sea. Also saw birds flying which was awesome. I saw people playing golf as well. Pizza was really nice. Staff were great and friendly, not pushy at all, even though they were flat out and looked a bit stressed. It was such a unique and memorable place. The fact that it’s not far away from the ferry terminal is a bonus!

Views were absolutely amazing, loved the platter. Service was a bit drop and go style, we had 1 of the base range tasting and 1 of the premium ones and were just handed a piece of paper. Wines were all ok but not amazing. Overall good experience and the view makes up for the short falls.

Kangaroo Island Spirits is a gin distillery located on Kangaroo Island in Australia. It is the country's first dedicated gin distillery and produces high-quality spirits. The distillery also offers other liqueurs, such as vodka and rum.
This place has amazing atmosphere, beautiful garden seating area. Their cocktails were amazing! The food truck outside serves amazing pizza, very thin and crispy base but so tasty! Definitely a must in KI. We went twice while in KI. Chip wedges was super nice and seasoned well.

Great friendly service and nice tasting spirits. A really nice relaxing place to stop after a long day of sightseeing. Kids loved the mocktails and we enjoyed a spirit paddle and a cheeky cocktail. Add this place to you kangaroo Island to do list.

So lovely to have an Irishman, Chris and his little doggie Roo, join our little party . Product is amazing too and now we know exactly how to drink it. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

Simply brilliant Gin distillery. Good selection of Gins and liquors. The Flammekueche meals are fantastic. Service is magnificent, as are the staff. The renovated outdoor area is great to sample the drinks and meals. Expansive new distillery is a boom to this establishment.

You Can tell she is very passionate and proud of the glorious gins they bottle ! Very generous with her time and advice on places to visit on this magical island ! A highly recommended way to start any day, especially when on holiday ! We loved meeting Bruce and Olivia as well ! Thanks to all the team at Kangaroo Island Spirits !

Shared a brilliant Friday afternoon and evening at K.I.S.. We had the pleasure of being taken through an amazing tasting and cocktail making experience by wonderful Ma including tour of distillery and garden. This was followed by some live music and great pizzas till the sunset. The whole team were fantastic hosts which ensured our visit to K.I.S. was a great start to a wonderful weekend on the Island. A must do when visiting Kangaroo Island.

Venue, staff and service were all top notch, loved the spicy liqueur. Great garden to walk through with all the gin spices. Tasting paddle prices were reasonable and drinks prices seemed standard too. The bottle prices were very expensive for gins that tasted quite generic.

The Vivonne Bay General Store is a great place to stop for snacks or drinks on the way to or from Flinders Chase National Park. The store is well-known for its famous Kangaroo Island whiting burger, which captures the essence and simplicity of island life. The store also stocks bread, milk and fuel, so you can hit the road ready to explore Flinders Chase National Park.
When I started planning our K.I trip, I knew I HAD to go to this place. Everything I read people were singing it's praises. And I see why. The fish burger was DELICIOUS. Fresh crispy fish, and the salad on the burger was fresh also. It even felt healthy eating it. The Turkish bread was soft and fluffy. Definitely pick up some lunch here if you're on the island.

When you are far away from any amenities this little store saved the day. We got fuel for our car (2.40 L) and fuel for our bellies :). The whiting burger was delicious, pricey ($20.00) but got more than what I expected. very tasty and lots of salad. They have cheaper alternatives in the menu if you want something else.

We had heard of the famous Whiting Burger available at the Vivonne Bay General Store & Bottle Shop established in 1962 . However due to supply shortages, this item was not available. We tried their Hamburger, BLT Burger, Halloumi Burger, Hot Dog with the Lot and their Hot Chips. They were all good. The place was a bit crowded but the service was very efficient, and the staff members were very courteous. Tables and seats are available on the wooden deck beside the store, in front of the store, and across the street.

We came here for a late lunch and had the vegan burger and the whiting burger. The vegan burger was delicious! The whiting burger would have been even better with a little more fish.

The chips were freshly cooked, piping hot, crispy and smothered in chicken salt. Similarly, the calamari rings were fresh and crunchy. The kids cheeseburger is a generous size while the famous whiting burger was scrumptious. It has the cleanest outdoor restroom we've ever come across.

We've heard about the "Famous whiting burger" all over the island. New owners a year or so ago and what a difference. They still have basic fresh food, fishing tackle / bait, hygiene supplies and alcohol available to purchase. Their freshly prepared food is outstanding, we had traditional burgers we also had the whiting burgers too, all were fantastic and considering the queue was a mile long it was received in good time. Loved the food.
Scott Spencer — Google review
Stopped in for the famous whiting burger, it was a good meal but not the best fish burger we’ve had in South Australia. The price point ($18) probably influences this a lot, while the serve was generous most of it was bread & salad rather than the actual whiting. Wouldn’t go back, but not sad we went. Also if you like your chips & batter yellower than canola, then this is the place for you.

Basically the only shop around the area but the fish burger is good and the coffee is too. Amazed to see a koala in the tree overlooking the deck.
Peter Maggiora — Google review
This place has a self-tauted reputation for its "famous whiting burger". It is a solid burger, and the calamari and chips were cooked well, although a little flavourless, maybe by design, so you need to pile on sachets of their salt, pepper and vinegar (which also wasn't particularly flavourfull), in order to get taste. Expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour if you come at peak lunch times. Other food options are available also (see pics), and as a small general trading store, it has a small selection of varied supplies also. There is limited parking here, so you can tell if it's full or not. Seating is cosy and charming, both inside and outside, on an open-air, wooden balcony. It is licensed, so alcoholic drinks for dining in are available. Not sure if the petrol pumps we saw were working or not. Public bins for getting rid of refuse/garbage are located outside, so campers and visitors don't leave their rubbish in the local national parks.

3.5/5 for the whiting burger, 4/5 for the halloumi burger. My wife got the halloumi burger and I was blown away at how delicious it was! Would highly recommend but did also enjoy the whiting burger. Friendly enough staff. We left and ate on the beach, which is highly recommended ☺️

Vivonne Bay General Store is a culinary oasis that surprised my taste buds with its exceptional fish burger. The journey to this hidden gem may be off the beaten path, but the reward is undoubtedly worth it. The fish burger is a true masterpiece, boasting a perfectly grilled fillet that's moist on the inside and delightfully crispy on the outside. The secret sauce adds a burst of flavour, complementing the freshness of the fish. What sets this place apart is its commitment to using high-quality ingredients, evident in every bite. As you savour the delectable fish burger, surrounded by the tranquillity of the seemingly endless nowhere, you can't help but appreciate the authenticity of the experience. The ambience may be simple, but it adds to the charm of discovering a culinary haven in an unexpected location. Whether you're a local seeking a hidden culinary gem or a traveller willing to venture off the beaten path, VB general store is a must-visit for any fish burger enthusiast. It's a testament to the idea that sometimes, the best culinary experiences are found where you least expect them.

False Cape wines are a must-visit spot if you're looking for a relaxed afternoon wine tasting experience. With easy DIY tasting paddles and full wine notes, you can choose from a range of bottles to take home. For an even more unique wine experience, check out their cellar door on the Dudley Peninsula. With kid's menus, playground and plenty of space, this is the perfect spot for any family get-together.
Like all good things on kangaroo island keep following the dirt track to enjoy what's at the end. The setting, the food and most importantly the wine was delightful, so good, we joined the club for deliveries.... Now that has to be a good advertisement for the wine. We had the platter and a few wine samplers to relax while watching the chickens walk around the grounds. Merchandise to purchase, lots of parking, inside, outside and outdoors seating.

Is this the best cellar door on the island? The better question would be whether this is one of the best cellar door experiences in the state, it's that good. Staff are welcoming, genuine and know their product. We went for a tasting and and ended up staying for lunch and a leisurely extra glass. Food was excellent (recommend the brisket roll - see pics) if we lived in the area this would be a regular lunch venue. Not only are the wines the pick of the island they, and the food are very reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommended!

Very glad to have been able to visit here during our day tour of Kangaroo Island. The story behind this winery is very endearing and beautiful. The actual location is fantastic with a beautiful property and well designed architecture to highlight the beauty of the vineyard. The various animals around the property with the introduction of some new alpacas that had only just arrived at the winery. The wine was delicious and we were thankful to have a tasting with delivery of passionate words about the making and ingredients and story behind the name of the wines as well. This always makes it special. What I also thought was special was one of the winemakers herself joined us and hosted us with her love for her wines. Absolutely loved this place. For those interested they do have a wine club you can join as well.

Our family visited and the place is absolutely beautiful. It was well suited for the cold day with a nice undercover section on the decking with a fireplace. It was family friendly with a playground for the kids which was great. It is worth noting that although spending quite a large amount of money on the tasting flights and food platters for the group, we were surprised there is a corkage fee on their own wines to drink and enjoy there, none of us have ever encounter this before - this was the only disappointing aspect. We still highly recommend for an afternoon.

Delightful cellar door. Lovely welcoming staff who were very knowledgeable. The day we were there the chef had prepared a Malaysian curry which we had and thoroughly enjoyed. The wines were the best on the island. We will definitely be ordering more when we get home. Well worth a visit!

What a treat, probably the best wine experience on the island with some fantastic facilities, a cracker vege garden, bball hoop and delicious wines. We bought some clean skins cab sav (easy drinking front palate cool climate) for $80 a box and loved the grigio, rose and Chardonnay, but the fortified was the top of the pop. Loved the interaction with the front of house.

I recently visited False Cape Wine and had an absolutely amazing culinary experience! Let me start by saying that the food was beyond incredible. We decided to try the yellow curry and the red wine beef pie, and boy, were we blown away! Now, I consider myself quite the pie connoisseur, and I have to say, the beef pie at False Cape Wine is hands down one of the best I've ever tasted. The richness of the flavors and the tenderness of the meat were simply out of this world. With every bite, the meat just melted in my mouth, leaving me craving for more. It was truly a gastronomic delight! And let's not forget about the yellow curry. The blend of spices and the aromatic flavors were perfectly balanced. It had just the right amount of heat, making every mouthful a tantalizing experience. The chef definitely knows how to create a curry that hits all the right notes. Now, here comes the best part: the wine pairings. False Cape Wine offers a great selection of wines, and I must say, they really know how to complement their food with the perfect wine. My personal favorite was the ships graveyard Shiraz which went incredibly well with my red wine meat pie. The combination of flavors was simply heavenly. The wine tasting experience overall was quite good, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness that went into pairing the wines with the dishes. In conclusion, my visit to False Cape Wine was a true culinary adventure. The food was top-notch, with the beef pie and yellow curry standing out as absolute winners. The wine selection was impressive, and the ships graveyard in particular left a lasting impression. If you're a food enthusiast like me, I highly recommend paying a visit to False Cape Wine for an unforgettable dining experience.

Was quite excited to go here, but it really was a let down. Website advertised $50 for two people to do wine tasting and a cheese platter. They did not want to honour that advertisement initially, but eventually agreed. When we got there a lady was very short with us like some how we were an inconvenience when we were ordering. Strange since we were actually spending quite a lot of money there. The lady serving the food was not any more pleasant. At one point we heard them complaining to each other saying "It's just their generation". Cheese platter was good, the wine was ok. Nice place, but too bad there was two sour wine ladies working there.

The Gastronomo restaurant is a 100-year-old wool shed, open fire cooking restaurant located on Kangaroo Island in Australia. The food is described as delicious and unique and guests have been raving about the experience. Some people likened the food to that of a five-star restaurant, while others said it was more like eating at home.
Great experience! We really enjoyed wandering down from the shed to the fig tree, picking some fresh mulberries on the way. Inside the fig tree was so cool! Photos don’t really capture it. The food was really good, and well-presented. Definitely recommend.
Chris Kitchingman — Google review
This was a unique experience which I actually enjoyed. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was the best we’ve had on KI. And I loved the atmosphere of dining under the fig tee. You start off with canapés (which is your entree) at the entrance and complimentary drinks. Then you walk across to the main dining area which is the big fig tree where you dine. There’s also wallabies? on the farm which roams around freely. Overall it’s an experience that I would at least do once. Try to book in advance because it gets booked out quite quickly. The staff also gave me some figs to take home which was delicious. Couple of things to note: 1. The drive to the venue includes unsealed roads which is fine during daylight hours but when you do dinner and leave quite late, I felt it was quite dangerous driving back after dark. Visibility from the dust of cars in front was quite poor at times. On top of that the number of animals just jumping out on to the road, it really made it quite dangerous. I would consider doing the lunch session if you are not a confident driver in the dark. On a positive note, given the remote location the atmosphere was beautiful and you could see the stars light up the sky. 2. It can be quite cold in the tree at night time so bring a jacket. They do have heaters and blankets if it gets cold. I had a jacket and used their blanket and it was warm enough. 3. Food was surprisingly filling and the main with the lamb was quite a large portion.

Absolutely amazing experience. The food is so good that you'd like to lock the plates and the atmosphere is so beautiful that you won't leave anymore. The girls that run the show are fantastic and helpful. We went there with our baby and they went the extra mile just to help us change his nappy bringing inside a little table. The Fig Tree is really enchanted, it feels like magic eating under is big leaves. Absolutely recommended if you are on the island

We dined here on January 1, but I've debated leaving a review. I can't find peace until it’s done. We sacrificed four hours because I wanted to treat my partner to this experience before I moved overseas. It was supposed to be the highlight of our trip, but it was an expensive excuse for fine dining. The food was terrible, and our favourite dish was the bread and pickles. I was taken aback when the staff promoted their in-house condiments, informing us we could try to replicate these dishes but not match their culinary prowess. The food was bland and expensively sad. I could have disappointed myself without spending $400 +. The steak was burnt, dry and cold. The side potatoes were stale and lifeless. How does one mess up a potato, let alone a fine dining venue? The tree is just spectacular, exuding a sense of calm and beauty. The only thing we were grateful for that day. I'm not sure if it was an off day or because it's a public holiday, but they didn't earn that surcharge. The reason this bugged me so much is that it costs a lot to experience Kangaroo Island, and no one should leave an experience disheartened

My partner and I loved the experience to taste good food and having the opportunity to eat inside one of the most beautiful trees we Have ever seen! It's not cheap, but if you put everything in context, it's a must, in our opinion! We were just grateful to be able to experience it!

An incredible setting with all the ingredients for a fabulous day set amongst the fig tree. Unfortunately this experience fell short for us. Firstly we were emailed 3 days prior to the booking and told that it was due to rain and that the dining experience would be moved to a shearer’s shed on the property. For us this was a premature decision that saw the experience dramatically decrease in value. We are aware that Mother Nature is unpredictable, however, we would have thought that with the pristine weather, perhaps they could have rethought their plans hours before the service began. It was sunshine all day!! The price point is 175 dollars pp. an incredibly high price point for food that was nice but nothing to write home about. The staff were lovely and I am sure if we were able to dine in the fig tree it would have been somewhat worth the 175 dollars but unfortunately there is no show without punch.

Lost for words on this place. One of the best restaurants I've eaten at any where in the world. It is truly unique. How many people can say they've had a chef curated dining experience inside a fig tree. We went for the non seafood menu alternatives which were well executed and seemed far from an afterthought. The main was braised beef which was melt in your mouth stuff, full of other flavours on the plate as accompaniments. The bombalaska was the best I've ever had and one of the best desserts in a long time. The fig inspired gin on arrival was also noteworthy. The only concern we had was the length of the lunch service which spanned 3 hours, sometimes waiting slightly too long between courses. Something to consider if you have plans such as a ferry to catch later on the same day. We will return when back on KI

We visited Kangaroo Island just to experience the Fig Tree Restaurant & we definitely were not disappointed. The whole adventure beginning to end was amazing for us . From the drinks & nibbles on arrival to wondering over to the magnificent fig tree. The food was luscious & plenty of it , I couldn’t finish some courses, even though I wanted too. We ordered beautiful wines from the extensive wine list & the service was great, timing perfect . We felt very comfy & were provided with cosy rugs when the late afternoon air became a little cooler. A long lazy afternoon. We loved our time at the fig tree & will be taking our extended family over so that they can enjoy this eclectic treasure of Kangaroo Island.

I have been going to the Fig Tree for a few years now, and recently had my best meal there yet this season, with friends who agreed. The quality shines through in all aspects of fine dining, and there is very much something special about the tree itself. The head chef’s attention to detail is second to none in their cuisine, and this is very much a destination experience when visiting KI. Well done team!

Our group of five enjoyed a wonderful lunchtime experience. The canapés and cocktail at the shearing quarters were first class before we ventured to the Fig Tree restaurant. Being seated in our dining room dappled with sun light between the leaves was such a unique and awesome experience. The table service staff, Alex and Eliza, were outstanding, helpful and fun. We all enjoyed the fresh menu with a very tasty Japanese influence across the four courses. Our one week visit was centred on this dining experience and whilst poor weather initially impacted our planned visit we were rescheduled within our one week schedule, so we are most grateful. We all recommend taking the opportunity to experience this if you can and would dine here again. Thankyou Enchanted Fig team.

This is something everyone should set aside half a day day for when visiting KI. The experience is unique and luck was with us with the weather. We had no idea what to expect. We had fine dining under the canopy of this enormous sprawling fig tree. Service was great and food was the best we've had for a while. The price of $180 per head might sound a lot but not for the experience, quality and service. If you think of it another way, it's a bargain being half the price of Vue de Monde!! Highly recommended.

The Enchanted Fig was an amazing culinary experience that will not be forgotten. We dined on amazing food in a 120 year old fig tree. The weather was sunny and warm - the food impeccable, and the whole experience delightful. Chef Alana has created an incredible menu, each dish delicious and quirky - nothing could be faulted.
