Thousand Pillar Temple

Mentioned on
Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
The Thousand Pillar Temple, a Hindu temple constructed during the Kakatiya dynasty in the 12th century, boasts intricate carvings and shrines of deities. The temple's magnificent architecture is accentuated by a central dome adorned with carvings of gods and goddesses, as well as an intriguing inscription on one of its pillars. Despite potential parking issues, the temple's maintenance is admirable and its evening illumination adds to its charm.
We visited this famous temple on a weekday, it is about 20mins away from the Warangal railway station. Like me, don't be surprised if you cannot see the 1000 pillars at once, if you look closely, the 1000 pillars are engraved intricately close to one another and form the walls of the temple. The beautiful carvings are on the walls and ceilings are mesmerizing, the temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. The vibe here is so serene, we spent about 40mins here. There is no entry fee. The well maintained park surrounding the temple premises is good for relaxing. A must visit place for architecture and history enthusiasts.

Travel: It was easy to locate and reach the destination. But there might be a problem of parking space. Destination: As it was evening time, the crowd was not hefty and the entire place was commendable for it's maintenance and illuminating. The main temple certainly consisted of carvings of gods and goddesses, with the centre dome. Also something noticeable was that one of the pillars on the dome had some writing. The complete nuance of this heritage is wonderful to explore. Amenities: I haven't figured this one and not sure if they have washrooms and other facilities. Summary: It is a good place to know our heritage and to explore it's ferocity.

The Thousand Pillar Temple, located in Warangal, Telangana, India, is a remarkable example of Kakatiya architecture. Built in the 12th century, it features intricate carvings, richly adorned pillars, and a unique star-shaped platform. Despite its name, it actually has fewer than a thousand pillars. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya, representing Hindu trinity. Its historical and architectural significance attracts tourists and devotees alike

|| Om Namah Shivay || RUDRESWARALAYAM / THOUSAND PILLAR TEMPLE- Rudreswara Temple locally known as Veyisthambhalagudi (Thousand Pillars Temple] is one of the fine and earliest available examples of Kakatiya art, architecture and sculpture. It was built by Rudra Deva and named after him as "Sri Rudreswara Swamy temple with the presiding deity as Rudieswarg In 1163 CE in the style of later Chalukyan and early Kakatiyan Architecture. The Plan of the temple is star shaped and triple shrine (Trikulalaya houses three deities Rudresward Vasudeva and Suryadeva in Western, Northern and Eastern shrines respectively around a central hall RangaMandaps) The lemple measures over 31 x 25m and stards on a platform raised to a height of 1 m from the ground. There is a KalyandMandapa located to the South of the temple famously known as Thousand Pillared Mandapa, which has about 300 pillars. The unique lype of foundations known as send box technique was integrated to raise the temple complex which subsequently turned to be the major cause for their damage and abandonment. Ine skill of Kakaliya Sculptors is manifest in adroit crafts man ship and flawless ivory carving technique in their ast. The ingenuity of Kakaliya sculptors is visible in likes of lathe turned, and shiny polish in colerite and granite stone sculpture and craft works of RangeMandage. The roof of the temple is devoid of any superstructure at present. There is a Nandi placed in the open space placed between the main temple and the pillared mandapa. The garlond of bells round the neck and with other ornaments embellished on the Nandi portrays Kakatiye touch. The elegant carvings at the richly decercted pillars under a spacious ceiling spanning the embellished side slabs identical to wood carvings is an achievement of unparalleled excellence of ine Kakatiya Architect. Other units here include a rectangular stepped Pushkorini, a thorana entrance in the East.

Historic place with beautiful architecture. With great and old history, Temple is located in hanumakonda, One of the popular places to visit in Warangal !!! The main attraction of this place is their pillars which attracts people from various places. Madapamu made with thousand pillars, so this place famous with thousands pillars temple, neglected by the state Government, I was visited around 18 years back, on that time madapamu little bit damaged, they are tried to set, they removed some pillars, unexpectedly archaeology department found water in below the madapamu, previously they built on water, They is connection between bhadrakali temple and thousand pillars madapamu, they are neglected and taken so many year’s, I was visited in recently still they are constructing, and also I observed that previously is spacious place, I feel that temple place is occupied, constructed houses, it is a Lord Shiva temple also known by Rudreshwara Swamy temple, I feel that something is missing in temple( I was visited so many years back) It is a calm and quiet place to be visited in the early morning and late evening to experience this historic temple. A pond is situated towards the left of the entrance , my last visit is not good, but now is good condition, government must take care and save heritage sites, this are represent our culture

The temple is star-shaped with several shrines andlingams. There are three shrines inside the temple called the Trikutalayam, dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya. There are 1,000 pillars in the structure, but no pillar obstructs a person inany point of the temple to see the God.

One of the oldest and heritage temples we have. Great architecture. Visited on a holiday and was crowded. Parking is bit tough on holidays being located in busy area in Warangal. Need to add more lights in the premises. Construction, maintenance work is going on the day we visited, plus crowded. So couldn't spend much time, blessed to have darshan.🙏🙏🙏

I enjoyed visiting this place as it takes me back to my childhood days. Needless to mention about what an architecture marvel it is. At least I cannot describe in my own words. The temple is currently under renovation and there is work going on. It was little difficult to understand what they are trying to do, but hope whatever they do it will be best. Temple is in city and just few minutes away from Badrakali Temple. So if you plan to visit cover that as well. We could not due to time constraint. There is small well kind of place, it's called Kolanu where devotees probably used to take bath in olden days. Now it's a residence for loads of tortoises. It was nice to see, it did not become shabby with plastic and dirty, except water turned totally green with moss. All said and done, I enjoyed visiting the place in past and present and will any day love it in future too. 😀

Very old and historic temple but not well maintained. Don't expect too much and go you will be upset. It's like a normal temple but there is a history. People outside the temple will sell the coconut set but they will not be allowed to break anywhere in the temple. Overall devotional and located at the middle of the city.

It's a 12th century temple of lord Shiva. Ideally there are 3 gods here shiva, Vishnu and Surya. But only the temple of shiva is open for Darshan. The whole temple is currently in renovating stage so we couldn't explore much around. Only the gates of the shiva temple were open for the tourists, rest of them were closed till further notice.

The Thousand Pillar Temple, located in Warangal, Telangana, is a remarkable architectural marvel dating back to the Kakatiya dynasty. Built in the 12th century, the temple is renowned for its exquisite design and intricate carvings. Despite its name, the temple actually has around 840 pillars, each uniquely adorned. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya, the temple reflects the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the region, making it a significant historical and religious site. Actually the temple is built with pillars without any walls and it is around 600 pillars. Also there is kalyanam place which is under renovation it is around 400 pillars so it is known as 1000 pillars temple. Lord Shiva is in the temple. Happy to be here. No photographs are been allowed inside the temple also we cant even sit inside the temple. Good to be here. Staff is good but they are rude to devotees. We cant say anything to them. They are been ordered with there superiors they are doing there duty. Overall best experience. Om Namah Shivayya. 🛕🙇🏻🙇🏻

This is a great temple. I had revisited this after long time and it continues to have the same vibe. There is a shiva temple inside which allows visitors to do abhishekam on purchase of ticket. It also has two other temples with Surya bhagwan and vishnu but most of the times it will be closed. There is quite less parking, if you’re visiting on holidays plan your visit correctly.

The famous architectural rich temple for lord shiva. The lord is called Rudreswara and the main deity in the Sanctum Santorum has marvellous pieces of figurines on the stone door frame. The mandap has fine dressed pillars. Since renovation with is going on a section of the temple is closed. Is in the centre of the Warangal city. Parking hardly meets holiday rush. No amenities except a hand pump bore well. The 11th century temple must be seen place in Telangana.

Very good maintenance by Archeological Survey of India . Ticket price is 25 . There is an option to get it for less price for 20 but that requires going to a website and giving details of everyone entering. The ruins are maintained well and greenery is good . You can spend around 15-30 minutes in there. Opposite to is Childrens park where decent good child activities are present in economical prices .

To visit ekasila park first , then the fort. You need to visit before light fails, that is 6.30 pm. If you you have an appetite for sculpture, it's the best place to visit. You need atleast 2 hours to observe each and every monument and feel them. You would be speechless and amazed by those brilliant monuments. You can also witness the irreparable damage caused and you will leave the place with a heavy heart. And most importantly, to know about the place better and it's historical importance, don't forget to visit the sound and light show. It is available in both English and Telugu.

The history of the Warangal Fort dates back to the reign of the Kakatiya dynasty, who commissioned its construction as a stronghold to defend their kingdom from external threats. Over the centuries, the fort underwent several expansions and renovations, each adding to its grandeur and magnificence. Its strategic location atop a hill provided a vantage point for monitoring trade routes and safeguarding the kingdom's interests.

The ruins are preserved in good condition and are beautiful to look at. There is a lot of history here. The only thing I felt bad was that some visitors were sitting on the rock remains of the ruins. The architecture of Swayambhu temple is of 1300-1400. We should respect our heritage. Also we should not touch the pillars and monuments as it can damage the architecture. You can buy tickets online now using ASI government website in advance or at the site also. It is cool as it prevents corruption at ticket booth.

Manually maintained park. Needs a lot of funding for: 1) Maintaining it at world class style. 2) lots of habitat still required(only 14 habitats in total) 3) Digitization of infrastructure and knowledge demonstrations are required. Overall, currently missing the above aspects. So, it is an improvised version of children’s park.

Maintaining greenery in zoos is not only essential for creating a naturalistic habitat for the animals but also for providing a more immersive and educational experience for visitors. The presence of lush vegetation contributes to the well-being of the zoo inhabitants by offering shade, enrichment, and even food sources, depending on the species. For the zoo's ecosystem, plants play a crucial role in air purification, temperature regulation, and supporting local biodiversity. Furthermore, green spaces are vital for water management, as they can help in preventing runoff and erosion. Therefore, a commitment to preserving and enhancing greenery is a hallmark of modern, responsible zoo management.

Not much to see, but a good place to spend some time. You won't find big cats or reptiles, but there are lots of birds, deer, one leopard, etc. The sweepers kept asking for some change for tea, etc. The place probably doesn't receive much funding, but what little animals they have are well-kept. The place is clean and tidy and ideal for picnics.

Sacred & Religious Sites
The Sri Siddeshwara Temple is an 800-year-old Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple boasts a small lake and a rocky hill with a Pyramid for meditation. The idol of Lord Siddeshwara Swamy is in the Swayambu form, which makes it very powerful and ideal for dhyanam or meditation. Additionally, the famous Padmakshi Devi Temple is located just one kilometer away from this temple.
This temple is very nice and good maintenance iam visiting first time in shivaratri day full njoy and happy in the temple

Awesome swayambu temple. When we went kalyanam was going on. Lunch was served. There were hundreds or may be a thousand people in there. We were allowed to do water abhishekam to the main god (men without shirt and baniyan are allowed inside the main idol area, women no such restrictions) It was like a festive on that day and felt really good.
Siva Sagar Jagga — Google review
Been here early morning, around the time of Sunrise. The temple offers a meditative experience to the visitors. The rock carving is very unique, hidden in between the green areas around the temple. Must visit if you are in Warangal (Oragallu)

This is one of the ancient temples and is located in Hanamkonda of Warangal District, very near to Padmakshi Temple and just adjascent to Harsiddhi Kala Bhairva Temple. At the front of the temple you have the idol of Kalbhairava. Inside the temple you find the shrine of Siddheshwar. The temple opens around 6 am and closes at 9.45 am. So better plan in advance. Like most of other Shiva temples in Telangana, you are allowed to get inside the sanctum sanctorum and offer your pryaer and abhishekam to lingam, as guided by the priest yourself; in this temple I found men enter without shirt only with the angavasatram or bare. There is a small pathway on the left of the temple which leads you to a park with idols of Shaivite gods installed and there is lot of greenery. Peace and Serenity pervade the atmosphere.Do not miss this temple if you are on a tour to Warangal. Om Nama Shivaya | Om Namo Narayanaya |

It is a very peaceful environment in and around the temple, most of the people don't know about this precious location.

Small temple of lord Shiva. Has got ample space. Situated with small rocks around the temple. A small water body with some stylish rocks placed vertically and horizontally also attracts, situated in the outer periphery of the temple. Parking space is available. Road ends here and vehicle needs to be turned back after doing darshan.

Vegetarian restaurant
Manu Family Restaurant offers vegetarian dishes from both North and South Indian cuisines in a small but comfortable setting suitable for families. The prices are affordable, and customers have the option to dine in or get delivery. The food is enjoyable considering its price, with adequate portions that are clean and hygienic. Conveniently located within walking distance from the railway station, it serves as a good option if one craves North Indian flavors while being away from home.
So yes.... This place is open again now...The food tastes amazing, we had Veg 85( yes it's 85), a very yummy starter. All the good tastes very food over here. It would cost around 500 for two. It's open till 11:30 pm. Pure Veg only. The service and suggestions of the staff is very apt.

Food and ambience were good. Ordered butter naan, Paneer Akbari which were good. Along with Special Biryani which was terrible (Special here means that they serve a Dry manchurian along with the biryani rice), also the biryani rice felt it was half cooked and was a little spicy Overall 3/5.

This is a pure vegetarian restruant. When I visited Warangal last November, I visited this place based on the Google review of this place. Trust me, I was greatly disappointed after having the food of this place. I visited this place for having my dinner. I tried below items... 1. Resmi Paneer Special. (Hardly found any Paneer pieces) Strongly not recommended 2. Garlic Naan 3. Paneer Shahi Kurma (shraded paneer pieces. Little oily. Didn't like the taste at all). Overall, being a food lover, it was very difficult for me for not being able to complete 50% of the total food.

I visited this restaurant today. Totally disappointed. I saw many works going on and we ate food in top floor which is with very dirty all over the place. Food is average. I wondered y people giving 4/6 stars.

So hear me out. I had spl veg biriyani, and it was disastrous. Now I know why North Indian people think Veg biriyani as pulav because they would have never ate real Veg biriyani and the same thing reflected in the taste of this biriyani It was so bad that I regretted every bite of it. I request people go there, not order or eat biriyani in here

Good enough as per price... You can take delivery and dine in also... Food is good as per price.. And quantity is perfect to serve. Clean and hygienic and walking distance from the railway station. Taste is not same as north indian food but it will be good enough if you are away from home and need North indian food.

Those who are pure veggies, this is the best place to eat. Bcoz the restaurant is specially for veg foodies... It's near to warangal railway station, beside bigc 1st floor. Here veg pulav and veg dum biryani are special... The taste n quality just good.

We went looking for a nice place to eat. This was a very shabby restaurant which I guess is the general theme in a small town like Warangal but, it did not even have any form of Dal on their Menu and the bathrooms and wash area were pretty horrible. We had to leave the place before even ordering anything so I will not rate the food but, I can tell nothing looked appetising on the other tables.

Restaurant
Hotel Shreya in Warangal offers straightforward accommodations and a down-to-earth atmosphere. They serve both international and South Indian cuisine, making it a great option for dining. Despite the average ambience, the food is fantastic and the staff are friendly. The menu prices are also quite reasonable compared to other popular restaurants in the city. The hotel is conveniently located just a two-minute walk from Hanumakonda bus station. Additionally, they offer good rooms and service.
I didn't stayed here, my rating is just based on restaurant. We ordered methi roti, panneer butter masala and biryani, every item is delicious 😋. Ambience was also good. One of the best near hanamakonda bus stand.
Jeevan Anishetti — Google review
This review is for deluxe room. The room is very small and not worth the Rs 2000 that I paid for it. There were various pests and insects inside the room including termites and also one rat. The walls were dirty and the bathroom looked unfinished and dirty. The only good thing was that the complementary breakfast was decent and they offered two plates of any available dish of your choice.

Very poor service. Every where you can find 🪳 cockroach. Also the enter in your bags and reach to your home. They use teared Bed sheets. Damaged toilets, Chocked showers and tv without signal is the main attraction here. Charging high cost for below average quality food. Will never stay again even for free. Special thanks to the arrogant, haughty and pretentious behavior of the manager Mr Mobin who is not having manner to talk to customers.
Rajat Pandey — Google review
Visited for lunch. Service was slow. Menu changes with time slot. So be there at the right time for lunch or dinner etc. Service is typically small town. Affectionate, courteous but lacks fineness of star restaurants. Prices reasonable. Ambience ok. Pretends to be class with low lighting but fails. They should stick to good lighting, bright interior to give a wholesome impression. Overall a nice experience.

The service is commendable. I ordered food for a train journey and they were able to provide it in the station and the person who was delivering Mr Fazal was quite understanding as well.

The Hungry Bird restaurant offers a superior version of the lollipop biryani, specifically catering to single individuals. The dish is not only highly flavorful but also exceptionally hot. Moreover, their assortment of mocktails is truly outstanding as they consist of top-notch milk, sweeteners, and various types of nuts.
The lollipop biryani is much better here, which is available for bachelors and it is very spicy and the mocktails here is awesome they have rich quality of milk and sugars and some nuts

Banquet hall
Hotel Vaishnavi Grand is a top-notch banquet facility in town, praised for its amiable staff and impressive services. The guests were particularly delighted with the high quality of food served at their recent function. The prices per plate are reasonable considering the exceptional taste and value provided. The managing director of the restaurant is highly regarded as a wonderful person. It is strongly recommended to consider this venue and engage with their team before exploring other options.
A perfect place for small or medium size family events (engagements, receptions, mature functions, less gathering marriages, retirement functions etc) Location: Just on the road, very much accessible to public transport and private transport such as autos and cabs. Personal vehicles can be parked outside of this building. Hall: There are two banquet halls. Centralized air conditioning and very clean room. 200-300 people would easily fit into these banquet halls. Two changing rooms with bathrooms present inside each banquet hall. Food catering can be done inside each banquet hall. Handwash area is Present. Decoration can be done in the hall, on a centre stage. Lighting system and power connection for photographers are present. Chairs are well maintained. Building: Two banquet halls are present on 3rd floor. Two lifts are available in the ground floor. Several shops (including sweet shop, supermarket, mobile showrooms are present in this building). Transportation: 2kms away from Kazipet railway station. Autos are available easily. Overall very good banquet hall for small or medium level family occasions.

One of the best banquet halls available in town. Staff is very friendly. I had hosted a function recently and my guests are pretty happy with the services, mainly with the quality of the food. Per-Plate prices are also reasonable for the quality of food they provided. And the MD of the restaurant is a wonderful person, I must say. One should definitely consider this hall and talk to these guys before checking with any other halls.
