Ilocos Region

Ilocos is a region in the Philippines, encompassing the northwestern coast of Luzon island. It’s known for its historic sites, beaches and the well-preserved Spanish colonial city of Vigan. Dating from the 16th century, Vigan’s Mestizo district is characterized by cobblestone streets and mansions with wrought-iron balconies. Farther north, Laoag City is a jumping-off point for the huge La Paz Sand Dunes.

Crisologo

Mentioned on
Notable street
Calle Crisologo is a charming lane known for its historic, colonial-era architecture, local businesses and eateries. The street retains its beauty and heritage vibes despite being less crowded. Recently, tourism has increased due to the relaxation of Ilocos Sur's border restrictions. This street in Vigan, Philippines is renowned for its beauty and considered one of the most picturesque spots in the country.
The beauty of the Calle is still there.... the street had been a little bit less busy when we went there but still, it is full of heritage vibes. Love it!

Plaza Salcedo (Luneta Park Musical Dancing Fountain)

Mentioned on
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Plaza Salcedo boasts a spacious reflecting pool and fountain that provides a nightly spectacle of synchronized music and colorful lights. A must-see attraction in Vigan, this historical landmark located across from the Vigan Cathedral starts its show promptly at 7:00 pm every night and lasts for 20 minutes. The surrounding benches offer a comfortable viewing experience, while vendors selling water, popcorn, and snacks complete the ambiance.
Spectacular show just after dark. The kids loved it so at only 20 minutes, it’s over quick. Get there a little early to get the better seats, up a little higher. Varied music selection will appeal to all.

Go there during the day, but definitely make sure to be there in the evening at about 6.30-7pm. It is a rare water and music show. Bring the kids! Enjoy the music and the dance of the water, and the stunning laser effects. I and my family really enjoyed and loved it.

One of the things that is a must when you visit Vigan is watch the dancing fountain at the plaza right across the Vigan Cathedral. Shows starts promptly at 7:00 pm every night and lasts for 20 minutes. Benches are provided around the fountain where the public can enjoy the show. Vendors roam around the area selling water, popcorn and snacks. The show is free.

This so far is the most amazing dancing fountain I ever witness compared to Okada, QC Circle, and Luneta. It's a must see when you visit Vigan. You'll totally enjoy the scenes.
Alma “Babaeng Gala” — Google review
A very significant historical site where one of the greatest revolutionaries was executed, Gabriela Silang. The plaza is well preserved for its present state, you can still see structures that are from the Spanish era. If you are looking for a place in Vigan City that also holds significant value Plaza Salcedo is a place to visit. We went there last year for a short while but still a very good place to visit if you're just passing by.
MABANTA, Earl Janzen F. — Google review
We have visited the place a lot of times but its our first time to watch the dancing lights. Yes it was quite spectacular and pretty awesome lights. Space was too crowded, since it was a holiday. It was free of charge to witness the light show. We also had a hard time to find a place for sight seeing at the same time there are no RamPs ♿ for we brought our mother with us. Parking is a limbo, since it is a holiday.
Merwyn Gloria — Google review
Great place to end the evening! Uplifting music together with the dancing fountain. The kiddies loved it and screamed when it started. Starts promptly at 7 pm. Sit on the side facing Crisologo for the best view of the laser show.

A must watch music dancing fountain... after visiting the Vigan the whole day, this is the best part to end the day... we really enjoyed this place and the dancing fountain of course... they even played k-pop songs.

Dancing fountain is only open at night. When it is midday, the place is hot and not an ideal place to standby. The brick roads also need repair because it is uneven now.

Dancing fountains start at 7:30pm every night but plan to be there earlier if you want to sit in the stands that surround the fountain. We came when it was windy so the water sprayed alot of people haha. The event lasts for 30 minutes and the lights and lasers on the fountains make it look really nice! I think they play different songs every night too.

Viva Vigan in Ilocos Sur is a charming destination that takes visitors on a journey back in time to experience the rich history and cultural heritage of the Philippines. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Vigan's well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture and cobblestone streets offer a glimpse into the country's colonial past.Walking through the streets of Vigan feels like stepping into a bygone era, with its beautifully restored ancestral houses, quaint shops selling local crafts and delicacies, and horse-drawn carriages known as "kalesas" meandering through the narrow streets. One of the highlights of a visit to Vigan is exploring Calle Crisologo, the city's main thoroughfare, lined with elegant Spanish colonial buildings dating back to the 18th century. It's a photographer's paradise, with its picturesque facades and old-world charm.

Bantay Bell Tower

Mentioned on
Church
Sights & Landmarks
The Bantay Watch Tower, a historic structure that dates back to 1591, has served as an emblem of the town for many years. It was later transformed into a bell tower for a church in 1857. Located approximately 1km from Vigan, it is well worth the visit due to its remarkable views of the surrounding area.
Nice place for a bit of history. You can go up for a bird's eye view of the city, though going up is not for the elderly. Fantastic photo ops.
Jodi Lee — Google review
We weren't able to go to Bantay Bell Tower as it was under renovation. We were allowed to take a pic from a distance. The place itself was enchanting for someone who's into history and everything that is from olden times. The only negative thing is the person or people who's offering their services to take your pictures and videos. Not sure if they are hired by the local government or if they are aware of it. If they are, I highly suggest they the local government provides training to these people so that they can have their income and at the same time provide a good service to tourists.
Mae Lyka — Google review
About 1km from Vigan, but worth the trip. Great views of the surrounding area. A tough little climb to get to the top, so pack your working knees, but worth it.

This original kept from the spanish colony era what happen to the Philippines. That is an stunning tower from upper level to look over the flat landscape. This pictures are just some days old before the great earthquake damaged this old building. Enjoy it and god do bless you all please!

There is a sense of history when visiting this part of the Philippines. I felt nostalgic knowing that the bricked tower that I was at that moment was already present during the late 1500’s. The last time I visited this place was back 2013 and I am sad that it was affected by the recent earthquake that hit Vigan. We could still climb up the stairs inside the tower and from there the view of the whole municipality of Bantay can be seen but it was closed during our visit. The Manong tour guides will take your picture and don’t forget to tip Manong when he helps you with amazing photos just at the entrance.
Sam Austin — Google review
Not allowed to go inside anymore because of the hazards. Still under reconstruction and reenforcement due to last year’s earthquake. Sana makabalik ako kapag ok na ang area. The tower gate was a bit crowded for tourists taking photos as well.
Joao Red — Google review
Historic Watch Tower. Mini outdoor chapel outside Bantay Church too if you need to take a restroom break for a donation. Entrance to watch tower grounds asks for a donation and registration prior to entry. The cultural minimum for locals is at 10 pesos or up. In Filipino culture, it is phrased as a donation, but the shame of losing face from not giving would make you give. It's for the upkeep of the tower, consider it like a small environmental fee like when you go to local beaches. Economically, the donation is just a drop in the ocean and may not be enough to preserve it. The watch tower was closed when we arrived, so we could only take photos from the outside. At the time, people weren't climbing up and stayed near the ground. There are locals there who would offer to take your photo. One particular old man looked desperate to eat. Already rejected him yet kept coming back and begged the group. I let him take my photo with the tricks, just gave a tip afterwards. The tricks were fun to do anyways. It would seem like you're holding the bell tower from above, pushing, or holding it from below. You can also do some tricks with the clay jar pot. Just check the picture afterwards because the photos could get out of focus. If you like towers, this is a must-see even from afar. With the tower closed, there's nothing much to do. Hope they reopen the inside soon.

Bell tower is beautiful from afar. However, due to the earthquake that struck last 2022 in Ilocos, you can no longer go near or inside the tower. You can be very creative in capturing your photos instead. ☺️

Bell tower was closed and they are currently renovating the church. You'll need to register first before entering and you can also leave your items at the registration area for safekeeping. There's not much visitor here when we went.
Jax D V — Google review
We came today before the year ends. The bantay tower is closed. However, you can take a picture from outside. There was a tour guide to inform you the details of the Bantay Tower which was built in 1500s. The word itself was to guard St. Augistine Parish. There was just a registration book on the entrance to register your name and a donation box for maintenance of the Bantay Bell tower.

Unfortunately, the bell tower was off limits and under repair due to a recent earthquake. We parked far from where the church is located and there were a lot of other people at the time we visited. We couldn't get a good picture of the bell tower so we just said our prayer. Outside the church, we bought some native delicacies called "tinubong" or coconut milk-laced rice cake in bamboo tube.
One Juan — Google review
its unfortunate that you cannot enter the bell tower premise anymore. you can only sight see from the gate outside. nonetheless, it was a sight to see. i wished i could enter and roam around the area though! also, the church here is still under construction so you can only see its exterior. no entrance fee but the people manning the place would ask for your donation. and for some reason, my tourist guide handed me over to another person from the area and took a lot of pictures of me with the tower with such touristy vibes (even if i didnt asked 🥲😅) had to tip him afterwards.

Syquia Mansion Museum

Sights & Landmarks
Syquia Mansion Museum is a stunning 19th-century stone mansion that showcases the opulent lifestyle of a wealthy local family in Vigan. The grand rooms are adorned with exquisite period furnishings and art, reflecting their impressive Chinese ancestry that involved selling blue and white porcelain during the 18th century. As a historical museum, it provides visitors with an interesting insight into the legacies and heritage of this influential family's life at that time.
The entrance fee is good if you're a student or pwd. The tour guide is very knowledgeable of the history and architecture of the house. It is not as well preserved like the best museum exhibits are, but I think it gives the place that touch of authenticity. This is a must visit if you like old Spanish colonial era houses! Ask for the tour at the front desk for the best experience.

Rich history and rich owners! Lol! I wish there was a tour guide to provide more stories and explanation. But, it's great how they preserved their things in the house. The carvings on the furniture are intricate. The house is really big. It made me imagine how people lived in the olden times. :)

The mansion provides you with a rich history of Vigan, President Quirino and and the Philippines in general. The staff in the ground floor can tour you through the house and will tell you interesting insights and things you would not read anywhere else. So I would highly recommend to do a tour with them. A lot of furniture is still original and creates this cozy historical feeling and let's you immerse in the living conditions of the family back in the day.

This unique restaurant is perfect for catching up with friends or simply passing the time. The chef prepares delicious German sausage and salmon dishes that are not on the menu, making it a must-try! The prices are worth it for the quality of food, and some items can be shared if eaten with rice. BergBlick Restaurant is a great place to have a chat, catch up on your news, or just relax in peace.
Prices are worth it for the food quality. Some foods can be shared if eaten with rice. But it could be eaten alone as well.

I think this is Pagudpud's upscale restaurant. Went here for merienda. Was supposed to dine here for dinner but changed our minds. ❌BergBlick pizza - dough was too thick. Pizza lacked flavor. I am 90% positve that the "sausage" on the pizza is just tenderjuicy hotdog. A bit disappointing for a supposed to be german restaurant. They should have alteast used hungarian sausage 😅 ❌Bihon - the ones you can but at local carinderias and turo turo are way better. Serving portion though was decent.
Martin J L — Google review
Food is so-so. Was expecting genuine German food. Was a but disappointed that they served only servrd two types of sausage. Was expecting more. The German platter is good though. A bit too pricey for what they serve.

For over ten years, Bergblick Restaurant has been our preferred choice. We frequent it on regular occasions, introduce visitors to its cuisine, and celebrate special events, including our birthdays, here. The quality of their food and service has remained consistently exceptional. We have a particular fondness for the Karetilya, Bergblick Pan, sausages, and homemade pasta. Their pizzas are also noteworthy.

Great food! Chef Detlev offered the German sausage and salmon, which are not in the menu, and everyone should try! Fantastic place for chitchat, catching up, or just passing up the time. Detlev and Tess attend to your every needs!

Parking was pretty limited, the actual restaurant has 2 slots, but it was full when we went there — good thing the sari-sari store beside it allowed us to park there. Seating is available inside and outside. The Bergblick Pizza was great, especially the hot sauce served with it (really spicy). Creme Brulee is underwhelming, but decent.
Marc Jimenez — Google review
The location was fantastic. The atmosphere is relaxing. The location was surrounded by rice fields. In terms of service, the waitress was kind and responsive to our needs. Literally one call away! The portions were tiny, so set your expectations accordingly. Everything we ordered tasted fantastic. There was also a selection of German foods, which was an extra bonus. In terms of price, I believe it was reasonable for the quality of food and service provided.

Cafe Leona is a restaurant located in Vigan, known for its historical significance and diverse menu. Situated near the Leona Florentino statue and marker, it offers a variety of food options at reasonable prices. Despite the tight and fusty setting, the cafe's menu reflects a commitment to diversity. The downstairs restaurant serves good food and espresso, making it a convenient dining option for visitors exploring the area.
Cafe Leona is a must place to dine whenever you are in Vigan. Due to its popularity, expect a long queue in their guest list and long waiting time before your food is served. It really tastes good though. Please be patient with the staff handling your orders and preparing your food.
McRey Banderlipe II — Google review
The food is delicious, the ambiance is good, and the serving is great. Fair enough with its prize. It is recommended for those who eat a lot. However, their serving is a bit slow, maybe because it's dinner time and the volume of guests is high.

Conveniently located along the entrance of Calle Crisologo, near the Plaza. I love the heritage house ambiance of this restaurant, as well as the outdoor seating. There's usually a queue since many tourists eat here but the wait is worth it. Food is great! I love the Vigan Express we ordered. Their selections are fairly priced, generous serving, and taste really good. A must-try restaurant when you're in Vigan. Will definitely eat here again and try more dishes.

This cafe is conveniently located along the entrance of Calle Crisologo. When we got here, it’s like we travelled back to 1800’s as this place is preserved and it is one of the oldest houses in Vigan. We tried their Poque-poque and Cafe Leona Native Special which consists of Bangus, Longganisa, Bagnet, Pinakbet and Rice. One of their staff said that their Native Special is good for one but it can actually be shared by two persons, just order additional rice. Their selections are fairly priced and they serve these generously. Overall, we enjoyed our delicious foods. We would love to visit here again and try their other foods.

We went here at 12:30 on a weekday and there weren't many people. Food was okay, pizza was good and the sushi was great! However they have way too many items on the menu. I thought it would be like a specialty restaurant but their menu had Filipino, Italian, Japanese, etc. It's also called a Cafe but there weren't many beverages. Overall, it was ok to try, but there are many other better options around the area.

Located right at the end of Calle Crisologo where the Catholic church is and where a statue of Leona Florentino is located is Cafe Leona which is housed in a well-preserved structure. They serve traditional and modern ilocano dishes here. It's a good place to eat at but just expensive. I like that location a lot

Cuisine de Iloco is a restaurant serving international cuisine, but owner Jaymar Aquino decided to trademark Ilocano dishes, as he felt they were more representative of the region. The restaurant is located in Laoag, Luzon and has been open for over four years. The food is delicious and some of the items include beef sinanglaw, bagnet, karekare, and others.

We stopped by for a late lunch before our return trip back to Metro Manila. One can say from the flavor of the dishes we ordered that the prep and cooking are authentic and very homey! Very delicious and refreshing isn't enough to describe it. I highly recommend this restaurant to travellers and locals, as i myself am from Laoag City. There is enough room to host a party or large groups of customers with dinning space for both A/C enclosed and alfresco. Lastly, the food serving time is pretty decent. The only thing lacking is dedicated customer parking.

Very poor service and food was very bland. Waited over 30 minutes to be served. Waiter was rude and didn't acknowledge my order and spoke rudely. Offered a small discount for a 5 star review which is why they have so many on here. The restaurant was dirty and pretty empty. There are many other better places to eat than here. I wouldn't recommend it as a place to eat as the locals don't eat here either. Very disappointed as many dishes on the menu were unavailable.

I ordered the Ilocano Express because I wanted to try local food specialty. It was very tasty, but the portion was rather small. The pork was very deep fried and the batter was a bit hard, but maybe that is how it's supposed to be. Overall, it was an excellent dish. I just wish the portion was slightly bigger. I have a small stomach and most of the time can't finish food, but even after finishing, I still was hungry. Not too much of a big deal since I got to try local food elsewhere. I am still satisfied with the quality of food. Good atmosphere, air conditioned during dinner, and many other customers.

The bagnet melts in your mouth and the sauce is well seasoned with the right balance of salty and umami. We also ordered the poque poque and the grilled eggplant’s smokiness compliments with the scrambled eggs. Definitely coming back here!

The food here and their menu is definitely worth the try! Love the combinations and the creativity of their meals. I will surely come back here for more! More power to the crews who were very respectful and welcoming! :)

I don’t know what all the fuss is about this place. Everything I wanted to order was unavailable. Eventually I got caldereta and it was extremely disappointing. Chewy meat with way too much fat and little taste. Hard carrots. So disappointing.

Delicious local food in the city. They also serve solo meals which is good for a solo traveler like me. They have all the classic Ilocano faves like bagnet, poqui poqui and longanisa Vigan style. Highly recommend eating at Cusine de Iloco!

Food is tasty and the service is good! It’s also budget friendly. We’ll surely be coming back here. Hope the restaurant will extend its inside dining though. More power and great food!

Very very good Ilocos food restaurant!!! Although serving takes a little bit more time but it’s really really worth the wait!!!

This is supposedly the best restaurant in laoag city as per review of previous diners. But i was disappointed when i went there. I ordered igado but what i had was just stir fried pork strips with string beans with no other ingredients. The beef sinanglaw tasted okey but the meat was so hard with each bite as well as the pork strips in igado. I felt that my food was just hastily prepared without waiting for the pork and beef to tenderize before serving. Either this place is overrated or its service has deteriorated lately. Better go to another place like La Preciosa who serve real tasty ilocano dish.

It's a quiet dining place. Good selection of foods. The serving was fast. I just feel so tight while eating. I guess the tables inside were too small. But we liked the theme; very refreshing. 👌

We were looking for a local restau to try some ilocano dishes/bagnet near our accommodation during our Ilocos Tour. There was an event that night and tables are reserved but good thing, they still find a way to accommodate us to dine. The food tastes really good! The best bagnet sisig and kare kare! 😁 We will definitely eat here again, and I will try the Dinuguan Bagnet.

Our group went there without any reservations, a little last minute on our end but they staff were accommodating. They didn't mind that we had a large group, or that we were a bit noisy, we were the last customers to come in. The food was served in the given timeframe, we ate and were satisfied.

Car parking in front. We paid in cash. Insect UV light keeps the mosquitoes at bay. Last orders at 8pm, before they close at 9pm. And only 1 restroom for both genders. First time to eat here so I asked my Ilocano mom and aunt to rate the food. Great - bagnet sisig, buttered shrimps. Mediocre - pork in the sinigang was a bit tough. Maybe they had to rush to thaw it. Mediocre - their pinakbet according to my Ilocana aunt But what really got us, was the unavailability of various food items. I was told by my Vigan-based cousin that restos in Laoag are better than Vigan. Based on our experience here - I beg to disagree haha.

Restaurant
La Preciosa Ilocos Corp is a renowned culinary destination in Laoag City, known for serving the best carrot cake in Ilocos. The restaurant has humble beginnings, originating from a small kitchenette managed by Preciosa Palma, the mother of the restaurant owner.
If you're visiting Ilocos Norte you might want to stop by and dine at La Preciosa. La Preciosa offers local cuisine that would certainly tickle your tastebuds and fill your tummy. During our visit in February 2020, the restaurant offered an extensive menu that features the local cuisine and other Filipino fare. Make sure to wrap your dining experience by indulging on their cakes and pastries.

Serves local dishes. Be sure to ask for recommendations from the menu. Some dishes have small servings. I ordered quite a lot for my group, and I think it's a little pricey for most people, considering that most items are your occasional home-cooked food... They might as well be generous with the servings. There are news clippings and decorations along the walls, and if these decorations interest you, you can purchase them. The staff are friendly and attentive.

Celebrated my daughter's late birthday dinner there. I've had my fair share of carrot cakes, but none of them compare to the one I recently tried at La Preciosa. This cake is simply delectable. The cake itself has a very nice texture and fluffy, with a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. The carrots are shredded just right, adding a subtle crunch and earthiness to the flavor. The spices are also perfectly balanced, with a hint of cinnamon, nutmeg, and lots of nuts ( I sense walnuts and almonds) that warms the palate without being overpowering. You got me at your carrot cake La Preciosa.

Food was excellent, but the dining room was stuffy and humid. There were upwards of 30 people on a rainy humid day and the AC couldn't keep up.

BIG servings but affordable prices. Their carrot cake is unique and a must try. Place is cozy as well perfect for a candle light dinner.

We have many orders but all were delivered after 25 minutes. Classy ambiance and accomodating staff. Viands tasted good but servings were less so it is a bit pricey.

MY GOD! Their carrot cake was phenomenal! Excellemt service, and although it takes time for them to prepare big orders, their food made the wait worth it. They are generous for veggie ulams and rice. The restaurant was clean and has the maaliwalas ambiance. Will go back 😭

I like the vibe of the place. It's a fine dining restaurant but it still has the cozy feel to it. It has a separate room for a large group like ours. The staffs were helpful and accommodating. The comfort room is clean and pretty. The food can be a bit pricey which is understandable for this kind of restaurant. One of our dishes came out later than the others. But we still enjoyed eating it since it was delicious.

Located in the old town of Vigan City, Cafe Bigaa is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to enjoy authentic iloco cuisine. The restaurant features a serene atmosphere with traditional Ilocano art hanging on the walls, and specializes in serving up traditional longganisa (spicy sausage), bagnet (fried fish ball), igado (meatballs) and sinanglao (soup). Some popular Western dishes at Cafe Bigaa include pasta.
We had our lunch here last December 28, 2023. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We love the cozy and comfortable interiors. We had their Bagnet w/ KBL (kamatis bagoong I forgot the L) Bigaa special rice which was superb, the vigan longanisa platter, shrimp pasta and chicken platter. The food was simple but absolutely delicious The price was just right and the serving was more than enough for 5 people We ordered extra rice because the food was really savory and flavorful. Our baby had the pancakes with butter and syrup. I would love to return. They close at 9pm so for dinner come a bit earlier.

Food was ok, but service was incredibly SLOW. There were other tables with more people or larger groups that also ordered a lot of food, and they ordered much later after we did, but we noticed they were getting their orders a lot quicker than us. We even had to follow up many times on our order. When the food finally arrived at our table, a lot of the food served was cold - we also had to request to reheat the soup and ask multiple times about other things that were missing from our order. It felt like our table was completely forgotten about or as if we didn't matter, which is why this experience was utterly disappointing. Unless you want to spend your money to starve and have your table ignored or forgotten about, I highly suggest to go somewhere else to eat in Vigan City instead of this cafe.

Great food and service, the crew were very accommodating and were open to our requests. The ambiance is great, they provide free wifi too. The food were served around 20-30mins after we ordered.

What I can say is that food is all good! Sometimes, some cuisine are not available forcing you to look for something else. The staff are friendly, but they can be more warm in their approach. As for the price of the food and drinks, for Filipinos who live in the country, it will be a bit pricey, but for an expat or a foreigner, the price is very affordable.

Delicious food and great ambiance. The place is air-conditioned and there is also free flowing coffee (or single serve hot chocolate) for the breakfast meals.

My fiance and I came here while visiting with a big group of family. We wanted to take out our order to bring back to the hotel. The waiters let us take a seat, and they grabbed us drinks while we looked at the menu. They acted quickly with our big order and refilled our waters while we waited. Very kind people. Their cucumber lemons was amazing!!

Average food for average prices. Ambiance is okay and the staff are attentive to guests. We ordered: buttered mussels - 3/5, old stock igado - 4/5, tastes good sinanglao - 2/5, bland tsokolate de vigan/hot choco- 3/5 We also occupied a table for 6 persons but there were only 3 of us. They did not remove the other 3 sets of utensils until we were done eating. They only dished out the soiled ones and kept the others where they were - unsanitary. limited parking is available in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is generally clean.

Good breakfast at the other end of Calle Crisologo. We were the only ones there so attention to us was excellent. Go to the toilet as you will see it is located in a very nice building.

DISAPPOINTING. A crew was very rude it is as if she can do whatever she pleases. We were following up our order since it took more than the time your crew told us upon preparing the meals and as she was the one coming to and fro in front of us so we keep on asking her. She didn't paid us attention. moments past and another crew came out to serve our order.
