Doge's Palace

Mentioned on

Art museum
The Doge's Palace is a labyrinthine Venetian Gothic palace built in the early 14th century by architect Filippo Calendario. The palace is full of lavish Venetian Gothic opulence, as well as citys history and intrigue.
It’s worth visiting it especially with a guided tour as there is so much history gathered in this stunning Palace! Majestic and numerous chambers, magnificent paintings, including the biggest painting in Europe - ‘Paradise’ located in the Chamber of the Great Council, golden ceilings - these are only some of the treasures you will see during your visit! We visited also the prison and saw the Bridge of Sighs.
Nora Emilova — Google review
On the pricey side for what you get but it is Venice so everything comes at a premium. Enough things to see and admire to keep you entertained for a couple of hours or longer. Good insight into life when the Palace was fully functioning. I enjoyed it but will not be one for all the family, certainly not at the price. If you like art it is recommended. Some nice views from the top too.
Vik Dowlul — Google review
A brilliant place to visit! Personally, I enjoyed this more than St Marks Basilica. Outstanding art and architecture, the whole place is steeped in history. Some of the rooms and the scale of them will take your breath away. A must see when visiting Venice. Tip: we got a skip the line and guided tour. It was well worth it, we spent zero time waiting and the tour brought the place alive.
Chris A — Google review
Beautiful experience of a lifetime. The decorated rooms with awe inspiring paintings on ceilings and walls made it special. It reminded us of Indian palaces or French Versailles beauty. It was crowded but if you get advanced skip line it’s very smooth and no waits. The bridge of sighs is nice touch to the visit which is both sad and provides one of best views of Venice in addition to the armory rooms which also have fabulous views of Venice. We skipped the basilica next door which had nightmare lines and don’t regret coming this way instead. Enjoy.

A wonderful palace full of rich history! You can buy your tickets day of, but you will be stuck in a line to be able to get inside. The palace is wonderful, and the walls have stories of how it all came to be and how the role of the Doge was handled throughout time. You explore the halls and rooms within the building, along with the connected prison chamber and pass through the inside of the sigh bridge. Overall a good experience, and one item as a must do while in Venice!
Hernan Hernandez — Google review
We went here in mid January on a Monday morning - no lines for tickets, no lines anywhere! The palace was so cool to see and it really gets you thinking about the wealth they had hundreds of years ago to be able to have such ornate rooms and ceilings. We skipped the audio tour as we just wanted to look around. Awesome architecture. The prison was really creepy. It was almost like being outdoors with how cold it was, so even though going up (and down) the sometimes steep or uneven stairs got our heart rate up, we kept our coats on. I enjoyed seeing the historic Bridge of Sighs--from the inside out! They don't allow backpacks so be prepared to check yours. There are tons and tons of stairs as you follow the pathway through the building so you will get lots of steps in.
Reesa Nelson — Google review
The ticket price is outrageously high, and we definitely had a visit experience that was not worth the price. We despite choosing a less crowded period in Venice and purchasing tickets in advance with a specific time slot, the palace was still crowded. This can only mean they are selling too many tickets without considering visitors' experience. The first and longest part of your visit is a dull exhibition about the palace and the Venetian dukes. If you know nothing about Venice Palace and Dukes, the exhibition might be interesting, but if you have even a bit of knowledge, it will feel boring. The rooms they prepared for this exhibition are specially designed to close off the palace, with walls covered in burgundy plaster and ceilings covered with nets, giving no sense of being inside a palace. We thought the whole visit would be like this, and we felt disappointed. In the second part, you get to see the grand palace rooms and halls. The rooms are truly beautiful with their magnificent ceilings and walls adorned with paintings. The third part involves visiting the prison by crossing the Bridge of Sighs. It's an empty and boring walk. You only see prison cells. In short, you pay an exorbitant fee to see a few rooms and halls of the palace amidst a crowded mass of people. I definitely don't think it's worth it.
Murat Yıkılmaz — Google review
Amazing place. Extremely well preserved paintings (though some were replaced by copies, the originals taken to the Louvre...), impressive interiors, some interesting collections of Venetian armour, and temporary exhibitions. Also, the prison part of the Palace is well worth a visit in itself, with its Bridge of Sighs, of course. The visit would take at least two hours.
Anastasia An — Google review
The amazing wealth of the Venetian city state is on full display in this museum. Much of it must be seen in person to appreciate the scale and mastery. This is a must see experience if you travel to Venice. There is so much history behind every piece of art work and artifact. You can spend many hours going through them. There are also guided tours offered by local guides, who can give you in depth history lessons.
James Zhang — Google review
Amazing scale and sumptuous style make the Palace a must visit, if you are in Venice. Only marked down from 5 stars as, however awe inspiring, the religiously oriented paintings and decorations left me with a feeling of a heavy grimness rather than light and glory. Queued for approx 40 mins to get in, though that was my fault for not trying to book until too close to the day.
Richard Porter — Google review
Get the ticket to tour the palace from the inside. Definitely book ahead online otherwise you will find yourself in a line stretching for hours, regardless of the season. Fascinating history and unique style of Venetian architecture that is quite different from other parts of Italy. Some awesome giant rooms that housed the Venetian governing apparatus, and you can see how the layouts relate to the well-known facade outside.
D Chen — Google review
Beautiful palace. I'd spring for 4 museums in a visit. Each floor is very different from the next. Completely worth it. My photos don't do it justice. Visited in late November so got right in. The normal queue lines were beside us and you can see where it's normally out the door when people go in season so beware 😲
MC — Google review
A must see. Absolutely stunning opulent palace. Very golden. Tickets are 25€ if booked 30 days prior. 30€ if book within 30 days. Opening time vary with season. For winter 2024 is 9:00- 18:00. It is wheel chair accessible. Opened every day. This is definitely a very popular attraction so must be crowded on peak season.
carine — Google review
A truly amazing building. The large rooms filled with paintings and gold leaf are breathtaking. Paintings by some true greats including Titian. The tour around the building has lots of information to guide you through how the palace was used and what the Doge was. Then the journey takes you to the prison part of the building (including crossing the bridge of sighs.) This section is very different but equally fascinating. You get a proper look in all the cells and the long creepy corridors are very atmospheric (we chose the longer route around the prison, and we definitely feel like that was the better option for a more in-depth look.) The tickets are expensive (€30 each if you buy on the day) but it’s clear that the money is being spent on constant restoration work and maintaining the incredible art and architecture. We queued up on the day for tickets and only queued for 5 minutes - this was in early January though so I would recommend buying in advance if you’re visiting later in the year. There is a cafe but everything was very expensive even compared to the prices in the rest of San Marco’s square, so we didn’t end up buying anything there. There was the option to pay extra for an audio guide but we opted to read the information boards for free and still felt that we learnt a great deal around the palace. Overall an amazing excursion - do leave a good few hours to get around everything with plenty of time to read the information and take your time looking at the artwork.

Exquisite ceiling work 🥰!! they’ve preserved the state of the prisons which is incredible…The finesse of the paintings are just🥰 we were lucky to visit during the night hours as it was open till 10pm on this particular day and I feel the lighting added a different charm to the art work.. I however feel that the place can be better maintained for the price they charge for entry. Having said that, it’s definitely a must visit when visiting Venice !!

Outstanding beauty, absolutely worth a visit. The path is marked by the ropes so it's easy to go through it without missing anything and getting lost. I'd take at least a couple hours to take it easy and enjoy the beautiful art (in particular Veronese) and opulent architecture. I recommend booking in advance and buy priority tickets to skip all queues and waste valuable time in Venezia!
MG Londoner — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous, can’t be put into words. Highly recommend—this is a must when visiting venice. the architecture is wonderful, the history is extremely interesting and the rooms will put you in awe. Paris has nothing on this, this is the most impressive destination! i highly recommend doing a tour to skip the long lines and learn about each room.
Mariam H. — Google review
The Palace is a stunning piece of art located right next to the Basilica. When you start the tour you see the amount of effort that they put into making this palace. Words can’t really describe how it looks inside and nor can pictures do justice. Each room is grand!!! When you go on the tour read the signs that they posted. It gives you a thorough explanation of the palace. By the end of it, you realize this place was used for making decisions for the community and bringing law and order to the people. I really felt that the Venetians try to create a Fair method of justice. Funny because their checks and balances system was brought to the United States. That’s what our tour guide said. Overall, it’s amazing and leaves you speechless.
Htamber — Google review
Would come again any time, great place with lots of great art. We used a tour guide that didn’t offer much time. One hour was barely enough. The museum doesn’t have air conditioning which in summer makes it unbearable to visit it in some places. They have a cafe and toilets with a long queue in front of them.
Martin Metz — Google review
Really enjoyed this visit I would recommend booking a timed ticket on line or queuing up early for a ticket and going back later in the day. I wouldn’t bother with audio guide. It’s €5 each (cash) but you need to leave your passport or drivers license so that you don’t run off with the device. The audio guide does not cover everything. There are plenty of written explanations in many languages. The cafe is really good. I would recommend the long tour around the prison.
Patrick Bastow — Google review
Wonderful tour. The entrance fee is not cheap, but it's well worth it - you get a great insight into Venice history, see stunning art and architecture, walk through the chilling prison, and literally get to walk across the iconic Bridge of Sighs. We were here in October and happily avoided the crowds - if coming in peak times you might want to pay extra to minimise long wait times.
Brendan O'Connell — Google review
Interesting place. Very pretty artwork. Go with a tour and you can skip the line. highly recommend . Randomly, it had a shared bathroom for men and women. It was fine as each stall was it's own room. I just found it hilarious that they had a Nona standing at the door making sure you used the "right" stall. I asked my husband and his stall was just a toilet as well. cracked me up that she was so diligent about keeping everyone in line, lol. At least there were 3 female and 2 male stalls!
Carrie Jones — Google review
The queue wasn’t very long (we went there at 3pm on a Wednesday) but it was extremely crowded inside, we basically followed a line of people from start to finish and the whole experience lasted about 90 minutes. Despite all this it was still enjoyable and the architectural details, the painting and ceilings were stunning. I highly recommend buying tickets online a few weeks in advance. We overheard several people saying they wouldn’t be able to go inside because they weren’t selling any more tickets.

Visiting Doge's Palace in Venice was an absolute delight! The intricate architecture, rich history, and stunning views of the Grand Canal left me in awe. From the opulent interiors to the captivating stories behind each room, every moment felt like stepping into a Renaissance masterpiece. A must-see for anyone exploring Venice.
J G1 — Google review
A really interesting building and great to walk around. If you like painted ceilings, you’re in for a treat! We waited outside in the general queue for probably around 20 minutes, so I’d recommend buying a ticket in advance because we didn’t go at a hugely busy time of day (around 4pm).
Beth J — Google review
The paintings and ceilings are breathtaking, they are ginormous. We went with a tour group and it was not too crowded. There are not many places to sit down inside and there are many stairs.
Samantha Baldyga — Google review
I recommend booking a tour as the queue for ticket entrance is insane. With a group tour, the waiting time is minimal. Also, with the rich history, it is impossible, at least for me, to make sense and appreciate the grandeur. I am amazed how the Venetian, as a relatively small power in terms of numbers is able to do so much. If you want to be on the Bridge of Sighs, then need to go in through the Doge’s Palace.
Trotting Horse — Google review
We went on a Thursday evening around 5 pm and it was mostly empty and we were able to visit without waiting. That said, the palace is huge and if you want to spend time observing the art, you may want to go earlier.
Cristina Wood — Google review
Excellent museum. Fine attention to history as each display in 4 languages. Extensive history at each display and very well done. The building is incredible inside and well worth the fee to visit. The armory halls especially piqued my interest. Excellent display. Would definitely visit again. I did a self guided tour but the audio tour would’ve probably been helpful. Excellent indeed.
Mike Rogers — Google review
An absolutely beautiful palace for the Duke of Venice. The first floor is not exactly all that appealing, but once you get into the "chambers", you will be surrounded by golden ceilings and oil paintings everywhere. In the largest room of the palace, you will find "Paradise", the world's largest oil painting. I think it is a very bad idea to build a prison in the Duke's palace, but it seems to have worked out for them. Located in a great place in the San Marco plaza, and next to the Basilica di San Marco and the end of the Grand Canal.
Marcus Xiong — Google review
Must visit to appreciate the symbol of the wealth and splendor of this once great maritime republic. You can actually walk through the famous Bridge of Sighs and visit the new prison across the canal after you see the beautiful gilded halls and stairways of the palace. I would recommend visiting it in wintertime when you can actually take nice pix without huge crowds.

We had to buy tickets online. Ticket queue was very long. A must visit place, if you are interested in history and art. It has amazing paintings all over the place depicting moment of history and mythology. It has good collection of weapons and armors from that time. You can take pictures inside. Considering everything, we bought €30 ticket which includes 3 museums including skip-the-line entry to the palace. Other included museums are (Culture and Archeology) are on other side of St. Marcs Square and very close by.

The Grand Canal in Venice is a massive canal that runs through the heart of the city. It has been an important waterway in the city for hundreds of years and has served as a beautiful backdrop to many iconic scenes in Italian culture.
Seeing it in films, on television or magazine simply does not do Venice justice...One must see it with there own eyes...Superb! Took the train from Verona early and spent the day taking in this visual feast! Fell in love with it all! Resident Cowboy of Portugal since 2016

Amazing sites for photos, especially during golden hour. The Grand canal stretches and weaves its way through the islands of Italy and it is where the highway that is Venice is located. The bus system travels through the Grand canal and by bus I mean water bus. I highly recommend taking the water bus even for fun as an alternative to the gondola because it is infinitely cheaper. 10 euros!

The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, is a significant waterway in the city, serving as a major route for water traffic. The Grand Canal holds fame for various reasons: the magnificent palaces adorning its shores, the elegant bridges spanning its waters, its role in connecting the city's top attractions, and, of course, the enjoyable gondola rides that offer a fun way to enjoy it all!

The best way to explore Venice, you will get the best views of the city and can explore all the attractions. If you stand in the boat you won't get the motion sickness as bad. So if you have problems with motion sickness I suggest getting on these fairies standing up and not sitting down.

Most important "road" in Venice and definitely a must-see. We totally recommend to take the waterbus or watertaxi or a gondola to see the whole Canal Grande. Also having strolls next to the Canal Grande is really, really nice. So if you're in Venice, don't miss it.

Beautiful grand canal of Venice. It provides awesome views all around. You may also take a romantic gondola tour here. It's bit expensive as 80euros for a half hour tour, but it was well worth it. The sunset views are specially spectacular.

I went on a gondola ride with my best friend and it was very enjoyable. Very smooth ride in the sun but I was hoping for some singing from the gondolier.

There you will see the Venice we see in photos, movies & read about in books. Beautiful old buildings on both sides, gondolas in the canal. The scene is even better around the sunset time. Whether you are having dinner at one of the restaurants, sitting in a gondola or even just walking. I had an amazing feeling just being there. Best views from the Rialto bridge or (even better) from the rooftop of the Fondaco Dei Tedeschi shopping center.

Main canal of Venice which connects all other small canals in city. All ferries run through this canal and islands near to Venice are connected through this canal. All ferry stops are in this canal, so we can get to all tourist attractions, train stations and main Venice airport from any of the ferry stops in the canal. Famous bridge like Rialto are over this canal.

During my visit to Italy in 2006, I had the privilege of exploring the magnificent Grand Canal in Venice. This iconic waterway, often referred to as the "main street" of Venice, left an indelible mark on my journey through Italy. From its enchanting beauty to its rich history, the Grand Canal offered an unforgettable experience that truly captured the essence of this remarkable city. As I glided along the Grand Canal in a traditional Venetian gondola, I was immediately captivated by the breathtaking views that unfolded before me. The graceful palazzos, adorned with intricate architecture and vibrant colors, lined the banks of the canal, exuding a sense of timeless elegance. The iconic Rialto Bridge, with its majestic arches, stood as a symbol of Venice's grandeur. The Grand Canal was a bustling waterway, teeming with activity. Traditional gondolas, vaporettos, and private boats gracefully navigated its waters, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere. The sights and sounds of Venetian life unfolded around me, as locals and visitors went about their daily routines. It was a captivating blend of history, culture, and everyday life. The palazzos that adorned the banks of the Grand Canal held a fascinating history within their walls. Each palazzo seemed to whisper tales of Venetian nobility and merchant fortunes, transporting me to a bygone era of opulence and grandeur. The architectural marvels, such as Ca' d'Oro and Palazzo Grassi, showcased the magnificence of Venetian craftsmanship and artistic heritage. The Grand Canal also offered a glimpse into Venice's cultural heritage through its iconic landmarks. The imposing Santa Maria della Salute basilica, with its striking domes, stood as a testament to the city's devotion and resilience. The canal's waterfront promenades, known as fondamenta, were lined with charming cafes, bustling markets, and artisan shops, allowing me to immerse myself in the vibrant spirit of Venice. The Grand Canal is the heart and soul of Venice, and a visit to this iconic waterway is an absolute must for anyone traveling to the city. Its timeless beauty, rich history, and bustling atmosphere create a truly unforgettable experience. My journey along the Grand Canal was a magical voyage through Venice's storied past and vibrant present. It allowed me to witness the city's unique charm and marvel at its architectural treasures. The Grand Canal deserves the highest praise for its ability to transport visitors to a world of unparalleled beauty and enchantment. My visit to the Grand Canal was a dream come true, and it left me with memories that will last a lifetime. It is a place where history, art, and everyday life intertwine, creating a tapestry of Venetian culture and beauty. The Grand Canal stands as a testament to Venice's enduring allure and its status as one of the world's most captivating destinations.

Main channel of island with view on many famous buildings, plus fancy cruises aside the Canal. Access to Grand Canal is available with public transportation, depends on the area you wish to go. Enjoy mild wind on the sea!

It is indescribable when you approach Venice by boat and see all these beautiful buildings reflected in the water. It is also pleasant to ride along the Grand Canal with the Vaporetto and enjoy the beautiful palaces along the canal. Arriving in Venice by train also has its own charm, when you are waiting for a transfer at the main station, you are already taken over by this disease called Venice.
Bogdan Marcelan — Google review
The Grand Canal of Venice is super impressive and serves as the emblem of this beautiful city. It is always great to get a watertaxi in the canal and take in the views - there is no experience quite like it!

The Grand Canal is the largest and most famous canal in Venice. It is nearly four kilometers long and separates one half of Venice from the other. The Grand Canal of Venice, Italy defines the perfect blend of romantic boat rides and attractive ancient architecture.

The Grand Canal – flows through the 6 districts of Venice. Many smaller canals eventually lead to this Grand Canal. This canal is beautiful to see from the shore, but a boat trip is even better to experience the Venice landmarks and sights from the water. You must have done this at least once in your life. About halfway along the Grand Canal is the famous Ponte di Rialto . This covered pedestrian bridge has many shops where you can buy your souvenirs.
J. Mitchel — Google review
We traveled by water bus at the Grand Canal in Venice all the time when we were there. The Grand Canal is so beautiful whether we are in there or looking from far away or on top of a bridge. Some reviews said the water is smelly. But fortunately, the weather was cold when we were there. The water doesn't smell at all. The views of the Grand Canal are almost like I'm in a painting! It almost looks unreal to me!

Though much crowded now, it still has something special about it, this Grand Canal at Venice. Take a Gondola or one of the motor boats and ride once in the historic waterways for sure if you are here.

The very beautiful Grand Canal runs throughout Venice, it’s very nice. It has lots of museums and places to visit along the way as well as it connects to other various channels and smaller canals throughout the city. There are some nice places to get a better view of the canal, and when your in Venice you won’t be able to miss it as your most certainly going to pass by it several times a day.

Ah Venice... The Grand Canal definitely does not disappoint. Interwoven with smaller channels and canals it snakes through the heart of the city. You can stop at the various small ports with a short trip to museums and famous old houses some of which are open to the public. There are other attractions and lovely historic buildings line the banks. A gondola ride is a must to take in the sights of this amazing canal.

The Basilica di San Marco is a spectacular cathedral located in the heart of Venice which is noted for its intricate mosaics and gilded interiors. It does not charge visitors for entry, but does have fees associated with accessing some of its attractions such as the St Mark's Museum, the Treasury and Pala d'Oro. This iconic building is a must-see on any visit to Venice.
Wow, what a place to visit. Highly recommended. The church/cathedral/basilica is absolutely beautiful. It‘s adorned with riches of gold, precious stones, mosaics, art work and sculptures that will astound you. It has to be on your list of things to see whilst in Venice. A tip is to get a skip the line guided tour, we did and we had no waiting at all and a superb guide that brought what we were seeing alive.
Chris A — Google review
The place itself is gorgeous, but under renovation. To get in, its 3€ and most of the church is blocked off, including the seats and all of the side rooms. The entrance fee just lets you walk around the main room. If you want to go up to the tower its another 5€ and the museum is also an additional cost. I walked through it fairly quick as there was not much to see, and there was a big crowd the whole way
Szilvia Gabnai — Google review
Beautiful church. Highly recommend to buy tickets ahead of time to skip the line. The line wrapped around the church before it opened. We went on a Tuesday in March, the off-season, around 945am and it was packed. Definitely wanna get tickets to the horse loggia and museum if you want access to the top balcony.

Stunning Basilica. We had to wait in line, but it moved quickly. Price was 3 euro per person to enter, but worth it. So beautiful inside. It was under construction outside and only limited areas you could go inside. We did not buy the museum pass to go upstairs and outside. The have restrictions on clothing to enter (womens shoulders must be covered as an example)
Michael Mack — Google review
Arguably the most favourite building in Venice, it is always packed. So I joined a night tour and was glad that I did because it gave access to some off limited areas. It was also great that only 2 other groups were there at the same time. So I could really pay attention and learn about the history about the basilica. What a beautiful place. I still can't believe I was walking in it. (July 2022)

To preface, I visited in 2016 and it was with a tour group- so, I got to see most of the basilica and did not have to deal with any queues or weird pricing. As far as the basilica itself: stunning!! So much impressive craftsmanship in the building, and the artwork is awe inspiring. I did not go to the top towers, but even through some of the windows there were very impressive views. Of course it was crowded, like most similar areas, but I remember having a great experience because it was not enough to pull me out of the beauty. We even got to see some lower levels and a cell somewhere in the basement I believe. If I were to visit Venice again with my wife I would surely take her here!

A very beautiful basilica indeed! I’ve enjoyed the appearance of the exterior and interior the most. I would highly recommend buying tickets online to skip the line. I wouldn’t miss the roof, as it gave a beautiful view of the Piazza San Marco.
Jamila Saleh — Google review
Looks beautiful inside however there is an extra 5 euro charge to walk through the back of the church area getting a better view of some of the art. Also there is a 7 euro charge to go to the museum. It would have been nice to include everything as a bundle fee as opposed to paying when you get there. Still a very impressive basilica and probably a must see in Venice so just keep in mind the extra costs if you plan on seeing everything here. I also recommend picking up tickets earlier which will help save you some time when entering
Adrian Chang — Google review
You have 3 attractions in one here. There is the Basilica itself. Then you have to pay extra to see the golden alter screen it is also extra to go up to the Balcony outside and then extra again to visit the Museum. Also it cost extra to get an Audio guide. It is a gorgeous place to see. The mosaics are out of this world. They tell so many stories and the audio guide tells the history of them all. Truly breathtaking. Got the skip the line tickets and they were well worth it as queues can be quite long.

Gorgeous church but we were not allowed to go inside the main part of the church because church was in session when we were on our tour. We could go inside the first door and walk around upstairs and outside on the top level for a nice view of the square.
Samantha Baldyga — Google review
I recommend buying the Basilica AND the museum/horses ticket as the ticket for the Basilica only does not allow you to go upstairs. We paid 6€ each for the 'skip-the-line' tickets including the entrance of the Basilica (3€ each). Adding the 3€ to skip the line was worth it. We then paid 7€ each to enter the museum and horses tour and we also thought it was worth it. The museum allows you to get closer to the ceilings mosaics and this alone is worth the add-on. The views of San Marco square from outside the basilica (balcony) is a nice bonus.

This is the largest square in Venice. It’s a very crowded tourist attraction but still I loved being here. The popular St. Mark’s Basilica and the very iconic bell tower stand in this place. The other dominant building here is the Doge’s Palace. All the buildings are very pretty. You need to stand in the middle of this square to really get the feel of the wonderful architecture around you. It’s a very lively and happy place (at least that’s the way I felt being here). Full of activity, iconic buildings and cheerful tourists. It’s a great place to spend a few hours. There are quite a lot of restaurants, cafes and shops here which are nice but expensive (as is the case near any main tourist attraction).

This is my top 1 tourist place to go in Venice .Beautiful architecture it’s is absolutely flawless. I went on a tour and I loved the history of the Basilica. I recommend to buy tickets in advance to get in front of the line instead of waiting in the long line like I did. Very beautiful inside too. Tickets are 3€ and kids under 6 are free. Thank you for reading

Gorgeous church with a beautiful interior. Lines get long quick but move relatively quickly. Fee to enter the basilica, fee to see the gold alter piece in the apse, fee to see the upstairs/museum/rooftop so come prepared to shell out $$$. But I think they are all worth it especially the upper level/museum/rooftop. Free Rick Steves audio tour really opened the place up.
Bryan Jacobs — Google review
One of the main places to visit when in Venice. I would highly recommend showing up early in the morning during peak season (summer time), to make sure you don’t need to wait in a long queue. I arrived 45 mins before the doors opened, and was the first in line. Tickets are very inexpensive, which are mainly a donation to the Basilica, and the view from the second floor outdoor area gives an amazing view of the entire Square!
vartan bilawejian — Google review
I think the facade looks the best close to sunset. That's when the evening sun shines onto it, illuminating the mosaics on the facade. As for visiting it, I'd recommend buying the tickets in advance. We arrived 30min before opening and ended up waiting for 45min to enter. Definitely visit the Museum as well. You get to visit the terrace and see the original bronze horses.
Jie Bo Ti — Google review
3 euro entry and extra 5 to visit the alter and 7 extra to visit the museum itself. Prices are reasonable. Great views, architecture and priceless art work. It was a great experience to walk round and explore the basilica. Would recommend paying for the museum as this allows you upstairs and out onto the balcony for view at marks square and the condition of some of the art work is amazing. Cheap activity and worth a visit. You can book fast track tickets. We went around 11am and there was a long queue but we were in within 30min
Lee Rock — Google review
Well what can i say, it’s worth the hype, it’s worth the queues, it’s just gorgeous and magnificent. I will go out on a limb and say that this is the most magnificent Basilica as per me in Europe (and the list includes Saint Peter’s in Vatican). The church is covered in mosaic and it seems impossible to even imagine how they created the art. The museum along with the galleries give some of the best views in Venice and thus worth going in. If you take Rick Steve’s audioguides then you can easily spend a few hours admiring the glory of this Basilica.

St. Mark's Basilica is an architectural marvel that left me speechless. Its intricate mosaics, majestic domes, and rich history create an awe-inspiring experience. Stepping inside feels like I am going back in time and experiencing a conclave of beauty and spirituality. This is a must-visit in Venice that truly captures the essence of Italian craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

Beautiful building and rich in history. We did an organised tour and jumped the massive queue. Prepare to wait a long time if you don’t. The original four horses from Constantinople are the highlight for me.

St. Mark's Basilica Venice, the multi-domed church on St. Mark's Square, is one of Venice's main attractions and one of the most spectacular cathedrals in Italy. At St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, you'll get a glimpse of a true embodiment of Venetian aesthetics. St. Mark's Basilica Venice is an iconic symbol of Venice. Originally intended as a private chapel for the Doge, the church has played an important role in the religious and political life of the city over the centuries. The basilica was built to preserve the relics of Saint Mark the Evangelist, which had been stolen in Alexandria, Egypt. St. Mark's Basilica of Venice, also called the "Golden Church", is famous for the dominance of golden mosaics, which are a unique sight in the world of art. Discover the priceless treasures kept in the basilica for the refinement of the mosaics .

The square makes an amazing impression in real life. It is very nicely lit, and the square itself has a very large open space, as in Venice, the streets are narrow. The basilica itself has a lot of decorations and drawings that delight. The whole thing is perfectly preserved and is truly a work of art. I highly recommend seeing it with your own eyes.

TICKETS! The biggest challenge with this monument is understanding where and how to purchase tickets. There is limited signage and information online to advise YOU CAN PAY AT THE DOOR and do NOT NEED skip the queue tickets. It’s €3per person to get in on the ground level to view the inside with an addition €7 per person via cash or card to walk upstairs and walk through both the museum and the outdoor viewing area over the square. I highly recommend this! On the hour the clock changes and the bell rings…an amazing sight to see…try to time your visit to over the hour change to experience this.

This basilica is decorated by mosaic. The glittery yellow ones are 24k gold! The extravagance in building this is unbelievable. The hall is the lowest point in Venice and it is first to get flooded when waters come in. St Mark’s body is also kept in this basilica.
Trotting Horse — Google review
You can go the fun way visiting this wonderful church by getting a tour and skipping the line or you can wait and wonder the story behind it. I would highly recommend getting a guide. definitely make sure you get to the terrace ( extra 14 euros) for the wonderful view of the clock tower and the square.

This is a especially beautiful Basilica. There is a little bit of a wait to get in, but it’s worth it to see the beauty inside. The architecture is beautiful and ornate. This is a must see if you were in Venice.
Dr. Richard Baker — Google review
We bought our tickets through Get Your Guide. Gia was amazing. She gave us incredible history and pointing out spectacular facts about the basilica. I highly recommend the 7€ hours/terrace add on. The views of the square are with it.

Sights & Landmarks
The Rialto Bridge is one of Venice's most iconic landmarks and a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. The bridge spans the Grand Canal between its two highest points above sea level, providing an easy way for ships to pass.
The famous Venice scenic spot is also one of the shooting locations of "Spider-Man: Far From Home". From the bridge, you can enjoy the scenery of the busy water transportation, which is amazing at any time. In addition, due to the large number of people on the bridge, don't forget to pay attention to your valuables!

The best experience in Venice, both from the bridge and from the gondola below. Iconic and majestic at the same time. If you visit on the first Sunday of June, there are rowing competition and the ambiance changes as there are no water buses or, taxis. Highly recommended.

Very busy but delightful. Good Restaurants and even a popular Bar! Good place for a Gondola Ride. Prices are now regulated €80 for 30 mins. TIP: Get four people on board and share the cost! €20 each👍 Evening rides cost €100! Enjoy yourself BUT watch out for Pickpockets in the crowds!!
Mike Lambden — Google review
Venice is pretty. Al lot bigger than I thought. We only spent the day there and it just wasn't enough time to see all that there was. Gondola ride was okay and food was fantastic! Weather in November was cool and if you're one who gets warm pretty fast from walking, layer your clothing because you'll warm up fast walking through the streets

It's a beautiful and the oldest of 4 bridges offering a lovely view of Grand Canal Venice . One can climb up the steps ,it offers views on both sides . One can go for a gondola ride or a speedboat ride depending on preference. Lots of hotels ,pubs and restaurants, local market line up the area making it vibrant in day but it looks amazing at night .
Anky Sh — Google review
One of a kind bridge and you will definitely not mistake it for another. It's massive, has three stairs (middle, right, left) to see the Grand Canal from all sides and angles. Magnificent! A lot of souvenir shops, but I would recommend searching for a place father from the bridge, it's a tourist trap. Same with the restaurants - a lot more expensive than other places.
Arta Groma — Google review
It's beautiful. But too much crowded. You'll find good restaurant at every corner. I wanted to try Gondola ride but it's 80€ for 1 person. You can find other options online for enjoying the view. It's better to book in advance online because I couldn't find it in the same day. My overall experience was good. Oh! It's 60€ for water taxi which took us 1.5km further. I know it's crazy but it's Venice 🙂 and once in a lifetime experience 👍

Beautiful bridge with small shops on it. Fantastic construction, looks like something modern but it has almost 2 hundred years. Many restaurants are around, pizza and ice creams are great, it is just a very cozy place.

The central and largest bridge of the biggest Canal of Venice. Of a truly beautiful medieval City - Island, which is not coincidentally the busiest tourist destination in the world. Romance, emotion and a unique atmosphere make up a setting that leaves no one indifferent to visit Venice.
FOTIOS FOTAKIDIS — Google review
Best time to take photos is before 07:30 AM. The crowds haven’t swarmed yet and the light is perfect. The cafes surrounding it will be overpriced and so will the souvenirs. Nevertheless, it’s a cant miss view from up top and below the bridge. And you will need to cross it a few times when you explore across major Venetian islands.
Nabil R — Google review
The bridge is amazing! On top, you can admire a beautiful panorama of the canal. Along the bridge, there are many small shops with masks, jewelry, and glass.

Very busy spot in Venice. Its iconic arches and lively atmosphere drew me in instantly. Walking across, I enjoyed views of the Grand Canal. And the cherry on top? Viewing it all from the comfort of a gondola ride, truly capturing the essence of Venice's charm and history.

Amazing bridge. Full of history as it has been rebuilt a few times and also has lovely shops on its sides. One of the most iconic monuments of Venice. Make sure to be there really early to avoid crowds and get some nice photos.
Carlos Ballesteros Guti?rrez — Google review
Iconic bridge of Venice, only few bridges are there which runs over Grand canal and this is the most famous one out of all. This is quite popular because of it's architecture and majestic look. Spriderman scenes were shot in this very same bridge. It's very much crowded most of the time and hard to even take a pic as everyone occupies their own steps for picture ;).
Karthik — Google review
Its very overcrowded and touristy. There are plenty of souvenir shops around if you want to get an economical souvenir from Venice. The cafes and restaurants around this place are also a bit too touristy. It serves well to cross the canal into the main island though. This is not a must see for me in Venice though it is super hyped.

Amazing piece of architecture and history. Visit this place if you are in Venice. Quite well preserved and perfect place for snaps. It's almost always bustling, Sunrise and Sunset views should be damn beautiful from this place. There are a lot of restuarents around this bridge and easily accessible by metro.

Beautiful day at the Rialto Bridge. Best place to get a photo is either of a gondola (which we experienced and I highly recommend) or at the bottom of either end on the dock off the taxi boat stations. Went on a Sunday and it was packed then went on Monday 11/20/2023 and there was very few people there. The bridge was larger than I expected.
Josie lin — Google review
The oldest bridge to build over the grand canal, it is a testament of of the great Venetian architecture. A true symbol of Venice. Very touristy. Be aware of pickpocket The famous gondola ride starts from here which costs 80 euro per gondola for a half hour ride during day time.
Chitrita Ghosh — Google review
The bridge's graceful arches, made of white Istrian stone, stretch majestically across the shimmering waters of the Grand Canal. From its earliest days, the bridge has been lined with bustling market stalls, where merchants sell everything from fresh produce to exquisite jewelry. Even today, the Rialto Market thrives beneath the arches of the bridge, offering visitors a vibrant glimpse into Venetian daily life. Climbing to the top of the Bridge offers breathtaking views of the Grand Canal and the surrounding city. From this vantage point, we could see the gondolas gliding gracefully along the canal, the colorful facades of the historic palazzos, and the iconic domes of St. Mark's Basilica in the distance. It's a view that's as timeless as Venice itself.

beautiful bridge, but there is a big problem, the bridge is always filled with people who are constantly taking photos there, you need to stand in line just to take a place and take a photo, in Venice, in my opinion, there are other beautiful places for photos

If you're looking for a quaint and charming Italian restaurant with a fantastic wine list, look no further than Osteria Enoteca San Marco. With over 300 different wines to choose from, you're sure to find something your taste buds will love. Not to mention, their menu features a variety of delicious seasonal dishes that will leave you satisfied.
Fantastic spot for dinner! The waiter was very helpful in choosing both wines and what to eat. It was the first time we tried orange wine! The cheese plate was excellent. The duck ragout and pumpkin ravioli were unique and delicious! Wish we had more time in Venice just to visit this place again!

Small rustic and intimate restaurant with great service and food. We managed to get a walk in but the venue is popular so booking a day or two in advance would be ideal. Plates are well portioned and you leave full but not bloated so you can still walk around and enjoy the city. Food was amazing and bursting with flavour really enjoyed the pasta dishes. Venue was very clean and service was quick but we were not rushed. 3 course meal for 2 is about 150eu depending on drinks but worth the money. Would highly recommend and would return

What an incredibly delicious dinner to celebrate our first year anniversary, in such a beautiful, cozy setting. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful, and the owner took the time to have a chat with us, which was really lovely. We started with the perfectly stated scallops with asparagus and the simple caprese with a twist, using a few varieties of cherry tomatoes. Then shared a lamb tagatielle and a 'delicate' Vientienne liver served on pureed potatoes, in a large onion bowl... Divine! At the finish line was a plate of pistachio ice cream with chocolate crumble, nicely accompanied by one of their lovely selection of digestifs (Amaro). Totally recommend going there and would go again next time we are in Venice. 💖

The best service we have received in Venice, which is saying a lot because all the service has been great. Lorenzo was fantastic and always smiling. Staff predicted needs before you knew you had them. Calamari and liver delicious and plated beautifully. Aubergine pudding splendid, with little caramelized parts. Good synergy between front and back of house. As someone in the service industry you can tell when the staff are happy, which makes everything better. 10/10. Save your money from the expensive restaurants on the squares and go here. Make a reservation to help out the staff. They do have a beer and housewine list not part of the wine menu.

Despite its location in a very touristy area, mere steps from San Marco square, this restaurant is the very opposite of a tourist trap. Plenty of Italians come here, and you can see why. Elegant design, superb service and trully exquisite cuisine. The wine list shows that these guys know their stuff. Highly recommended!

Had a dinner here after the night in opera. Service and atmosphere are amazing! Food was good, however my clams pasta was extremely salty. Our server just said it’s because of local clams.. well I did have a not overly salty clams pasta in Venice before.. My husband liked his little squid dish, it was nice and light for a late dinner.

Al Timon is an informal eatery located in a charming, rustic setting. It offers a variety of delectable options including seafood, steak, and pasta, all complemented by a fine selection of wines. What sets this place apart is its outdoor seating area that overlooks the picturesque canal. The boat terrace provides a unique experience for guests as they enjoy their meals and drinks. This popular spot attracts both locals and students alike who are drawn in by its lively atmosphere.
Our first introduction to Venetian cooking and it certainly set a high bar. When we arrived around 18h00, the place was quite full inside and we were lucky to get a recently vacated table. The place was clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly to boot. There was a lovely lady who spoke excellent English and made some recommendations. We wanted to get the Picana or Floretina but were advised against it as they were too large for us (2 people) being 1.6kg-1.8kg and 1.3kg respectively. So, on advice, we ordered the Beef fillet and Lamb chops...we struggled to finish even these. The sides that come along with them are generous and very tasty (hand cut chips, spinach and onions, grilled peppers and aubergines and some steamed broccoli). The beef was cooked to perfection although my wife found it a little too rare for her and I thought the lambs was more medium although my wife preferred that! However, both were exceptionally tasty as was everything else. It was beautifully presented on a bed of rocket in a rustic fashion. Whilst it wasn't "cheap", I think it offered value for money. Overall, 10/10 and we recommend you go there early and very hungry. 10/10.

Good place to enjoy cicchetti and wine with the locals. Less good to enjoy a meal from the a la carte menu. Everyday it's buzzing with locals, Venetians do like their apperitivo even though it's cold and not so sunny. Grab a table and chair if you spot one otherwise you have to enjoy the wine and cicchetti standing.

Great place if you are a meat lover. We ordered the Tomahawk Steak which was tender, fatty and juicy. Just as it should be. The chef did an excellent job with the grill and seasoning. In other words, the meat was just perfect. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is the drink prices, a Coca Cola cost 5 euros. And thats from the tap with half the glass filled with ice. So basically 5 euros for sirup and soda water. But I would definitely recommend and will visit again next time I'm in Venezia.

Set back, away from some of the touristy parts of Venice, this is well worth a trip off the beaten track. Wander down the canals and back streets of authentic Venice at the end of a busy day, when the sun is getting low in the sky and the warmth of the day lingers in the air. A perfect, hearty meal. We enjoyed a T-bone steak for two that was perfectly cooked (for us) on the rarer side of “medium rare” (but we weren’t asked how we like our steak, it just comes that way). A decent portion of homemade chips (“fries” for all you Americans reading this ;) ) some amazingly seasoned vegetables and washed down with a local Cianti Red. At €100 for two it’s not “cheap” but it’s not expensive either and the food was great. Frequented by locals enjoying a beer / wine with the local Venetian tapas. The ideal spot for a bit of immersion in the local way of life. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer setting, away from the crowds on our first evening in Venice. 100% recommended!

Delicious cicchetti! I am not into seafood but that codfish started to change me and I think Venice will in the end change me. The cheese and the pear match so perfectly; I will replicate this pair back to the Netherlands. The staff was very friendly and the seat next to the canal is so chill. I passed by later in the evening and the vibe looked even better.

Came here for some cicchetti and aperol spritz and it was great. The cicchetti is 2 € each with a drink and tastes good. We arrived at 5pm before the kitchen opened so we sat outside by the canal and enjoyed the outside. Plenty of mosquitoes outside so wear some long pants or bug spray.

This place was recommended by our B&B owner and it was known for their delicious cuts of meat. As one couldn’t reserve, we chose to meet friends there early for drinks and cicchetti, which was charming as we could sit outdoors canal-side and they do have a reasonably-priced selection of wines by the glass. Then we stayed on for dinner (though be ready to eat early as the dinner service officially starts at 6). The younger waiter was very friendly and helpful, the older guy who could take dinner orders was less so. The Fiorentina we ordered was very good, though they didn’t seem as capable as restaurants in Florence to serve the beef al sangue like we prefer. The board was covered in chips and some vegetables, unfortunately we didn’t like kale, pumpkin or eggplant. But it was fine, we were there for the meat. We were bitten by mosquitoes as it turned dark, so maybe bring some repellent with you.

Awesome place to get some Cicchetti, which are the Italian version of Spanish tapas. Many different options, each one tastier than the previous one. Fairly priced, the place gets quite busy. It was a lot of fun to have a light dinner with drinks here, and even though they had a bunch of reservations, they let us sit in one of the reserved tables just letting us know that we'd have to be ready to leave in 50min for the people who had reserved the table. That's efficiency! And they were really nice about it, we know we were on a schedule to eat/drink, but never felt pressured by them. Would certainly come back here.

Harry's Bar is a legendary Venetian bar, known for its Bellini cocktails and carpaccio. It has been a favorite haunt of stars since the 1930s, and is still popular today.
The waiters have white tuxes and, when not crowded, are very solicitous. Have a Bellini, as this is where they made the original Bellini. Every ingredient is meticulously sourced. You should definitely stop by Harry's. Hemingway did.
Tracy Schultz McIntosh — Google review
A historic venue. Also my first ever cookbook. So you can imagine how excited I was to be here. First impression, like a movie set & this place is a well oiled machine. Everyone know what they are doing. We were offered the Bellini & wow that was impressive. The menu is small & I loved the section with “The Classics” section. As a chef, I really appreciate how they celebrate the classic dishes created by them over the years. Now for the disappointing part, we ordered a plate with mozzarella & ricotta (made by them) which was good, but EVERYTHING after that was disappointing. The mortadella was average, the legendary Primavera risotto was OK, the green vegetables were over cooked & brown. I ordered the sole & when it arrived I was shocked to see it was cooked off the bone, which made the smaller fillets over cooked. Overall an ok experience. The thing is when you get a bill over £200 for two courses, two Bellini & a bottle of water you expect it to be sublime & it wasn’t

Myself and my girlfriend sampled a Bellini cocktail here as it is the place it was created. We thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the waiting staff being very polite and attentive. My only criticism is price. Would visit again.
Will Gallie — Google review
Good experience, expectedly overpriced but definitely a place to say that you've been. The service was very good and professional. I only had the Bellini, I did not eat, so no comment on the food. But I do wonder if Hemingway paid the equivalent of 22€ for a bellini while he was drinking there (joke). It is worth a visit, if only once.

We visited Harry's bar, famed for hosting regulars such as Truman Capote and Ernest Hemingway. Very traditional inside, with waiters in black and white, some in the traditional white jackets. Service was good and staff friendly. We each had a gin Fizz, our bill was €44.00. so don't go here expecting cheap cocktails. It was a must do on our trip to Venice and would recommend

Had to go because of Hemingway! This is a small yet very appealing spot right at the Vallaresso stop for San Marco. It's at the end of the high-priced shops so don't be shocked when you see $25 to $30 drinks. It was totally worth the people watching! The wait staff is awesome and the bar tender is meticulous. It's just a great place with a historical vibe.

We had a reservation for lunch and we were seated on time . Service was terrible.we were four people and order 3 pastas and 1 rissotto . Our food came after 1hour and 10 minutes and no one ask us anything in that time . Meanwhile all the tables were tended to and asked regularly if the needed or wanted something. Food is really good, but the atitude to the customers is really terrible if you are not old and rich. I will never go again to this “famous” chain.

Harry’s bar has a name and ambiance. Food was very good. Service was pleasant but pretty slow and aloof. Restaurant is little tight and noisy. Considering you are paying $50+ for main course and total $100+ pp they charge $10pp cover charge. For the price you are paying I think a little overrated. I Like going to places and not making a fuss, but noted table next to us made a stink about food and head waiter and and manager came to table , free drinks and desserts- I guess it pays to complain and not a nice person.

From the classic Bellini to the mouthwatering carpaccio, every detail at Harry's Bar exudes excellence. A must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in the heart of Venice.

Very expensive and the quality is not reflected in the high price. If you go for the historical aspect, then it's great. Otherwise save your money and go elsewhere. Food will be €50-70, drinks average €23. Even the water, tea and coffee is double to triple elsewhere.

A classic Venetian haunt that was frequented by Hemingway back in the 1950s. Famous for the Bellini, which was invented here by Giuseppe Cipriani, this bar continues to attract droves of tourists on an hourly basis. It's small in size but delivers a perfect punch.
Simone Artuso — Google review
Classic bar with lots of heritage. It's like a time machine. No frills, very old school, highly professional and elegantly dressed staff. Some regulars, some tourists mix - you can tell by the outfits alone (I felt underdressed but the staff treat everyone with the same respect, which is true class). The original Bellini, the best Bellini, comes at a hefty price. After all, they invented it, you get the benchmark, you get a story to tell, you get a little great taste of bar history. I knew that going in, and I can say it's worth it. The accompanying olives are great, too. I also went to Raffles Long Bar for a Singapore Sling - maybe the comparison is a bit off but I liked the experience at Harry's Bar better somehow.

Iconic bar in the heart of Venice, is a must visit for many however as a result of following in footsteps of many a celebrity from Hemingway to more recently, George Clooney then expect to pay a exclusive price. The signature drink in the bar is the Bellini, which is made in front of you. It is excellent if small in size. It's simple a location you must try just to be able to say, " been there done that " .

A must visit place to experience the first ever Bellini, very pricey but iconic drink. Also don't forget the lemon vanilla meringue cake!

Made dinner reservations for 8pm, Made a critical error and did not show up in the dress code. Hostess was very understanding, and told me she would hold my table until we could return. Our Stay was about 20 minutes away so that's a 40 minute turn around time. They did however hold a table when we got back almost an hour a later. The hostess was really sweet. Drinks were phenomenal! My wife ordered Bellinis and I had a dirty martinis throughout the night. The waiter was extremely attentive, everytime our waters got below half he would walk by and make sure they were full. My wife ordered the Veal Chop and I got the Fish of the day, (Swordfish) the server asked if I wanted one or two servings and I asked for one. The bread which does cost extra was definitely worth it. Once the food came out everything looked amazing and tasted even better. When I was nearly done the server brought me a second serving of fish which was awesome! We finished the night off with Limon meringue pie which was delicious as well.

I give 5 stars because I had a good time and enjoy the place and the experience but being objective the rating should have been lower. Of course you don’t come here thinking about a reasonable price, you come for the tradition, the prestige and the history of the place. Food was good, we had gnocchi al birro nero and tagliatelle al branzino, but not amazing, I regularly cook this food way way better. They cost around 45€ each. Coperto it’s insanely expensive, 10pp, but the bread was amazing and again we are not here to go cheap. Am ereticano and Bellini were very good and the surplus to me was the lemon cake, divine (20€). The staff is extremely welcoming and kind offering very good vibes. At one point an important personality entered and they didn’t care much about us anymore but we were at the end. An experience to try once in a lifetime for sure!

The place to get the original Bellini. We got there on a weekday and there was an open table for us however the place is quite busy. The Bellinis are a little bit to the expensive site but it is totally worth it. Also the olives they serve with the drinks are so good!

Quaint little bar. Famous apparently. Drinks and olives are good... though not cheap. Don't have the sandwiches if you don't like anchovy as it was in them and was unexpected. Bellinis are worth the trip.

Cute little vintage place with great Bellinis. The rum long drink version was quite enjoyable if you’re not a huge fan of their classic. The prices are higher than elsewhere, and the venue is very limited in space. A bit of a mix of atmosphere with the classy vintage bar, and then the restaurant serving hearty food to other patrons.

Went just for drinks. It’s an old school place and that’s the fun about it! Nice service, good hospitality, prices a little too high. If you are in Venice, at least you gotta go for a Bellini, which was in this place that it’s was created.

Great service, nice atmosphere. we had 2 Tom Collins cocktails which was expensive but very nice with a side of complimentary olives. if your in Venice you gotta do it! 😉

Italian restaurant
This family-run restaurant in Venice is renowned for its seafood dishes, which are served with a warming Venetian atmosphere. The fresh catch is delicately sliced and presented raw, reflecting the high quality of ingredients used in the dishes. Reservations are recommended to enjoy this intimate atmosphere.
Great food, great service and great atmosphere. The pasta is great, especially the seafood pasta. The razor clam appetizer was amazing. The homemade chocolate ice-cream is very tasty also.

Foods are good! Staff are kind&friendly. Clean . But I had been told,we shall share the plates . They seems afraid to bring us 1plate for each order/antipasti therefore ,I have to share half of my plate (small portion) to my partner! 🤔 Never had happen ,a new experience for us!!🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️ An advice: bring your extra sandwich w/you.🤭

First meal in Venice! I had read a lot of good reviews so I decided we should give it a try! We shared starters of octopus and soft shell crab. Both were excellent, in particular the soft shell crab dish! For mains, I had the spider crab tagliolini whereas my hubby had the calf's liver with polenta. He really enjoyed his - portion was generous and even though I am not usually a fan of liver, I have to admit it was quite tasty. However, I was slightly disappointed with the pasta as it was a bit on the bland side and slightly soggy, in my opinion. I think it was mainly because I had very high expectations for it! Finally we had dessert of gianduia (tasted like an extra chocolatey Nutella) ice cream and the dessert of the day - a custard tart with strawberries and vanilla cream. Both were a hit with us - tasty in their own way. The gianduia was very decadent! Service was decent considering how busy the restaurant was. Staff were attentive and friendly. Prices are on the high side (about 80 euros each, excluding drinks) but it is meant to be a more upmarket place. All in all, a good start to our long weekend in Venice! Time to walkabout and attempt to burn some of this off!

Wonderfully prepared local cuisine by a talented kitchen team. Beautifully plated and served by a friendly and knowledgeable front of the house staff. Located on a quiet street in Venice this restaurant is worthy of a visit....make sure you make reservations!

Excellent meal in a spot away from all the crowds. They excel at seafood dishes and the octopus starter was one of our memorable dishes after 2 weeks in Italy.

By far the best meal we have had so far in Venice; the prawn spaghetti is a must-try as is the special soft-shell crab. We even booked to come here again before our meal was over. We had a lovely carafe of white wine too. Hard to find food this good in Venice.

We visited this restaurant for lunch on Friday 2nd February. We approached from the Rialto Bridge area, a relatively short walk through some of the quieter streets of Venice. When we arrived, we were greeted very nicely and were quickly shown to our table. The Restaurant is not the biggest in Venice and the seating is tight but cosy. Immediately on sitting down the diners on our left a nice couple from Turin filled our glasses with an tasty Soave Classico, what a nice gesture. We were looked after by a very professional lady who spoke excellent English and her recommendations on both food and wine were perfect. This is the type of restaurant you want to “find” when you are on vacation, and it fits the bill in all respects. I have no hesitation in recommending it very highly to you. Book well in advance as it was very busy. PS – we did reciprocate a modest Valpolicella with our friends from Turin!

What a lovely place. Lovely decorated with a lot of mirrors and art . The food is really delicious and fresh . We had a carpaccio of various fish from the market and it was excellent. Then as primo piatto spicy spaghetti with seafood ( I forgot the name) and then fresh fishes for secondo piatto , really good and also so very fresh . The light wine in the carafa was also very good . The ambiance is very nice , locals and international customers . The service is perfect ! Everyone is smiling , speaking many langages and very lovely . Highly recommended.

I asked a fishmonger in the pescheria (fish market) for a recommendation and he pointed us here. We were fortunate as we ambled early and grabbed a table outside (the weather was unexpectedly favourable). The service, food and wine were all excellent. Such a lovely place.

Fine dining restaurant
Bistrot de Venise is a Michelin starred Italian restaurant that serves up traditional Venetian dishes with a contemporary twist. Famous for its fresh renditions of Venetian cuisine dating back to the 14th and 18th centuries, it also offers a variety of wines by the glass. The restaurant is located just steps away from Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy.
What an incredible dining experience. From the surroundings, to the service staff, to the mouthwatering food. This is not just a regular meal out, it really is a whole dining event. The taste and presentation of the food is exquisite. Add that to the plush interior and the formal way the service staff are dressed and present the food to you then it is something that you must not miss. Is it a little expensive compared to your usual night out.... yes it is. But you get what you pay for and this is most definitely worth it. It is a must if you come to Venice, you will not be disappointed. Without a doubt I would book a table again if I am ever in Venice. Thank you to the whole team for your wonderful hospitality and service.

This exquisite gem in the heart of Venice left me in awe. It was like magic - full of flavor, meticulously prepared and with extraordinary artistic touches. I was captivated by their approach to authentic Italian cuisine with modern twists that truly elevated my dining experience. The fact that Bistrot de Venise has been honored with prestigious Michelin awards speaks to their dedication to excellence. From service to ambiance, every aspect was flawless. Can’t wait to come again 😋

A truly exceptional dining experience. This is a restaurant run by people who clearly love what they do and take immense pride in it. The food is absolutely exceptional, from the starters down to the Tiramisu (which is very likely the best I’ve ever had anywhere). They also have excellent vegan options, which is much appreciated. The waiters are incredibly well mannered; charming, elevated, informative and friendly. The atmosphere feels like you’re tucked into a historic Venetian hideaway. Their ingredient selection is so good that we had to buy some olive oil to take home. This is fine dining done perfectly, and I loved it.

This is a lovely, elegant restaurant tucked away in an alley a short distance from Piazza San Marco. The food is simply exquisite. For those who are interested in tasting a variety of historical reproductions of centuries-old dishes, I highly recommend the tasting menus (lunch or dinner). Each dish is prepared with utter mastery and served as a work of art. Paired with a good wine (of which there are many to choose) this is a divine experience for the palate. The staff are very polite and professional with extensive knowledge about the food. I highly recommend this restaurant on your trip to gorgeous Venezia.

Echoing many other reviews, this was a great experience. We booked through The Fork for an off time of 1400 for lunch and got 20% off our bill (only on food). Though we arrived 1 hour before the kitchen closed, the service was still well timed and everything was fresh. I highly suggest one of their pre-made tasting menus. I did the Venetian while my partner did the classic. Both were excellent! As others have mentioned the wine list is quite extensive, spanning an entire booklet and over 12 pages! However, there is a wine bottle for every price point and some wines are even offered by the glass. Overall, I would definitely come back! Also, they check the green pass so have it at the ready!

Stumbled in here on a rainy afternoon in Venice and didn’t quite know what we were getting ourselves in to. First up it’s on us for not doing our research but this place was VERY expensive. The food, despite being quite dainty portion wise was excellent but the wine menu was like a hardback book and finding an affordable bottle of wine took some time. I’m sure if money is no object this place is way more awesome than I experienced. Just beware that it will cost you an arm and maybe even a leg. *Update* I have to disagree with the Managers reply. That same evening I had a phenomenal meal at a local Osteria and it was about 1/5 of the price. Venice does not equal expensive!

Amazing meal. On the pricer side, but you have to think of it as an experience. Very friendly servers. We basically had the whole dining space to ourselves. Booked the reservations through fork and got a discount as well. Highly recommend if you want to ensure some food full of flavor and appropriate portions. We had the scallops and lasagna.

You can understand why Bistrot de Venise is on the Michelin Guide. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. They described each dish with ingredients that’s place in front of you. I went as a vegetarian and they were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. The ravioli is quite possibly the best ravioli I’ve ever eaten in my life. It was so fresh and it just melted in my mouth.

Truly exceptional. One of the best restaurants we have been to and deserves to be on the Michelin guide! I went for the Historic Venetian menu with the wine pairing which was absolutely wonderful!!! From the cod appetizer with rosemary sauce, a flavorful ravioli with saffron sauce that takes you back in time, the duck with chicken liver and chutney and the cake with rose water ice cream, each dish was an experience and a burst of flavors. My husband went for the classic menu which was great as well. What will make this dinner memorable is the sommelier stopping by with every course and describing the wines and how they complement the dishes. The wines completed the dishes perfectly and takes you on a journey of culinary delight!! The staff is attentive and provides you with amazing service. Thank you to every single staff member in the restaurant and I will recommend this restaurant to all our friends and family who visit.

Fun higher end experience. We sat outside and it was quiet and peaceful. Wait staff was very friendly. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and our meals/pairings ranged from good to excellent. I liked how the sommelier explained where the grapes from each wine came from. Would recommend.

I genuinely hope that restaurants like this never cease to exist. It feels like being transported back in time, when every little detail in a restaurant absolutely mattered. From the moment you walk in, you feel like a star, that is not an exaggeration. The staff are knowledgeable about every dish and extremely attentive. I visited on the evening of my birthday and it was one of the most specials meals I ever had.

We were looking for a quality dining experience. Our hotel recommendations, the reviews and Michelin guide recognition was why we went. Make a reservation. We did lunch based on our schedule. Lunch is the same menu as dinner. We dressed very casual with shorts and shirt sitting outside during lunch with no problem. What we loved: - espresso martini - Scallop Appetizer - Beef Filet -Desserts - tiramasu and panacotta (we tried 5 of the 6) we loved this course the best Service was amazing. My son spilled on his white shirt and they had something to help him. What we didn't love was the 1st course. Cuttlefish (black pasta) was a flavor we did not like at all. Ravoli was a heavy smoked mustard flavor. This was our least favorite resulting in 4 stars. Glad we went. Great experience as we ordered as a tasting for our party of 4 to enjoy. We sat outside on the patio.

Was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Had their award winning risotto with prawns and it was amazing! The squid ink pasta was also good and had a couple of dessert (Honey Panna Cotta and Cheesecake) which were quite unique and tasty too. A Must Visit if you are in Venice!

Worthy of Michelin recognized excellence. The food puts a unique modernization to Venitian tradition. Everything is presented beautifully, even the gorgeous water bottles. A delicate amuse bouche added to a perfect meal. Everyone was warm, hospitable and professional. Dara added many laughs to the experience. So good we went back a second time. Recommend the prawns, Linguine alla “Buzara”, Spaghettoni with cuttlefish in “Black”,Tiramisu and the Panna Cotta but I can’t imagine anything on the menu not to be wonderful. If you are in Venice, this is a must try.

Totally recommended. In a great city with highly variable quality restaurant food and experience this place just nails it. It is classic high quality european dining. The menu is there to challenge and please as you wish with both traditional venetian and typical modern dishes. (e.g. Beef tongue or duck). Cooking is sophisticated. The service is exceptional. I'd imagine the tasting menu is exceptional but we went a la carte. The decor is warm and feels special. It's a bit expensive but not outrageous or in any way exploitative and worth every cent. You could visit with your partner or friends or family. Plently of options and price points. Special shout out to Stephane the somellier. A true partner to you and the restaurant to enhance your dining experience; give him free rein! I'll be back every time I come back to Venice. I rarely give 5 stars for anything.

The food is not just excellent but includes another dimension by categorizing dishes by the time periods they were available or introduced. For example, there are dishes that were common before the new world was discovered - no tomatoes, corn, etc. We started with two oysters each then had two antipasti: scallops and sturgeon. My wife had smoked eel and I had the liver Veneziana. Both were amazing, but the smoked eel's presentation was memorable by itself. We finished with Panna Cotta, espresso drinks, and a remarkable 2019 Trenaltri.

An absolute culinary gem! Their signature dish, “Raw-Cooked” Risotto is the best risotto I’ve ever had in my life. Each bite is a journey through the flavors of Venice. Their desserts are exceptional, especially the revisited pana cota “Maya the Bee” is a real masterpiece. The ambiance and service only add to the overall delightful experience. Highly recommend.
