Kelham Island Museum

Heritage museum
Museums
Kelham Island Museum tells the story of Sheffield's industrial heritage, from skilled workmanship to mass production during the industrial revolution. The museum is situated on a man-made island and includes displays about steelmaking, knife-sharpening, transport and conservation. It is open 10am-4pm Monday-Thursday and from 11am-4.45pm on Sundays.
What a cool place! Free to get in, although did leave a donation. The huge (largest working) steam engine is a must see, and I think they turn it on a couple of times a day (1200 & 1500 when we were there). Filled with interesting exhibits and local history, will keep people of all ages entertained. We were staying locally and walked from our hotel, about ten mins, easily. Places nearby to get food and drink after.

A small museum housing and showing the past of Sheffield, visitors can easily grasp the basic developments of its steel and furnace industry. The large steam-driven River Don Engine is really stunning and amazing. Amongst the several museums in Sheffield, I would rate this as the most important one.

Very nice place to visit. Full of interesting information and items. Great history and explanation of exhibits. Some good interactive items for children and adults alike. Nice area for kids to play and a nice drawing room. Load of seats for a rest for those who need a seat like my disabled husband and I. The cafe was lovely. Nice coffee and food. Clean and staff were lovely too.

Just 300 years of Sheffield's fantastic industrial history. You must visit. Free entry, but please donate to keep the place ticking over. I suggest £5 per person, or £10 for a family group. It's well worth it.

An absolutely brilliant free museum, we brought our toddler and had a really good time. There’s so much to see and we really enjoyed visiting, I loved all the extra stuff about WW1 that was really interesting. My only complaint was we turned up at 9:50 for parking and a man had shut the car park and didn’t say anything to us just hard a guard across it, we parked elsewhere and walked to find car park open again.

Brilliant, the smells, sounds and atmosphere here are awesome if you enjoy Industrial heritage. The Don engine ran 2x today (12pm and 2pm). Really impressive to see that amount of power on display. The museum staff considerately offered younger visitors ear defender which I thought was a lovely touch. Loved it, entry is free but please make a donation if you visit.
Sam Roberts — Google review
One of my favourite museums in the country. It is worth the visit just to see the River Don engine in steam such visceral power. The other exhibits are also of interest. The cafe can also be recommended, good food served by a cheerful crew.

Had a nice trip round this museum, got jumped scared by the almost life like mannequins which feature heavily around the musuem, excellent vibe creation in the WW1 section. Particularly enjoyed the pedal piano, also had a really cool room upstairs with pictures of local people and their stories. Sad that we missed out on the big engine being fired. Another highlight was the lift which is a style I've never seen before. But all in all an excellent museum with a lot of interaction to keep your mind engaged.

Free entry. Very large museum. Very interactive and good for kids to explore. Midday had a steam engine demonstration which was very impressive. Overall experience will depend on how interesting you find steel , machines , manufacturing etc.

Great place to learn about Sheffield history. See Industrial revolution working machinery and interesting infrastructure. Great exhibitions. Learn how they make cutlery.... You will appreciate having them 😊
TiC — Google review
It's a big museum mostly about steel works. I the back, there is a small 1910s house, you don't get to see much there, but still worth seeing. Upstairs you can find vintage cars. I think it's mostly about what interests you. They have few cutlery to show and a lot of files.

Time capsule of one of, if not, the earliest industrial revolution in the world! Recommended to those who want to immerse themselves in the early days of Sheffield and understand the importance of steel industry that has brought changes of magnitude in today's world.

This was a wonderful place to spontaneously visit! I actually stopped in the area to visit the nearby tattoo studio, but my partner and I couldn't resist visiting this museum on the way out. It was a mind blowing experience, very educational, and I'm so glad it's there. I really enjoyed my visit, it had a lovely friendly atmosphere and passionate staff.

Kelham Island Museum is a great place to learn about the history of Sheffield's industrial past. The museum is home to a number of exhibits, including a 12,000 horsepower steam engine that is still in working order. The engine is turned on twice a day and it is an extraordinary experience to see it in action. The museum is also home to a number of other exhibits, including a blacksmith's workshop, a cobbler's shop, and a Victorian kitchen. There is also a number of interactive exhibits that allow visitors to learn about the history of Sheffield in a fun and engaging way. The museum is located in a beautiful setting on Kelham Island, which is a former industrial area that has been transformed into a trendy neighborhood. The museum is easily accessible by public transportation and there is plenty of free parking available. I highly recommend visiting Kelham Island Museum if you are interested in learning about the history of Sheffield or if you are simply looking for a fun and educational day out.

One of the most interesting museums I've ever been to. It has a lot of industrial stuff and machines as well as stories from the past and some interactive objectives as well as a funny game/puzzle where you have to find some references to some animals inside the museum. Great place to visit.

A good place to take the family to learn about the steel industry. I was amazed at how much they were able to fit into this museum. Viewing the large steam engine in operation alone would have made the visit worthwhile.

Great place, visited on a whim on the way out of Sheffield... Great for kids with an interest in big machines and tools. At 12.00 theres a demonstration of the worlds largest steam engine which is really impressive. Free entry - donations accepted. Good clean toilets, gift shop and cafe... Definitely recommend

We could have spent the whole day there. Great place to see the machinery that powered the industrial revolution. If the massive River Don Engine is being demonstrated then that will be a special treat. Unfortunately we weren't there for that but we were told it was a wonderful experience. We would travel a long way to go back and see it going.

Excellent little museum. We were lucky enough to stumble upon the big engine being fired, which was awesome and a must. I also really enjoyed learning about the history of Sheffield, and the role women had in the industrial revolution.

Brilliant museum! It has a vast collection and tons of information and history of steel city. Thoroughly enjoyed by myself and my 5 year old. Entry was free however we donated some coins. This museum far exceeded expectations

This is a free museum. Also it Has a free car park. I took my 4 and 9 year old. And we spend just over 2 hours here. There are 2.5 levels to see. Their cafe is currently shut. However, around the area there are another 20 cafes. There are little interactive pieces to look at and touch. Like little puzzles. We had a picnic in the car. The staff are lovely and very friendly. There's toilets on site. And around the area there are about 20 parks to drive to.

I was there for the Christmas market, but the museum took my interest more! The largest operational steam engine in the UK was a bit of a beast ... I will be back with my daughter in tow next time to fully explore!

Excellent place to learn about Sheffield's history. Great displays and if it's running I would definitely recommend seeing the river don engine in all its glory. It's free entry but there are options to donate to help fund these amazing places in Sheffield

I went there for open Iftar but not for museum visit. So far I can see the museum is huge and open for any event. It is an industrial museum so if you like industrial history it's the best place for you.

This museum is free to visit, it has a brief history of Sheffield and an active display to watch if working. We arrived late and didn't get to spend as long there as we should. I would give yourself 2 to 3 hours. There is a cafe and bar in the area, but I can't give more details than that.

The farm is home to ten Alpacas who help with permaculture land management. You can get up close and personal with the Alpacas on organized Alpaca treks. The cost of a ticket to see the alpacas is just 3.50.
Wonderful experience. Took my Granddaughters and my grown up daughters and we all had a fantastic time. Walking with an alpaca is such a fun thing to do but also very calming and enchanting. The volunteers are so friendly and helpful and the whole experience was really well organised.
Gilli Fowler — Google review
Brilliant experience! My sister and I went recently, she led Jefe the Lama and I had Theo the alpaca who were both very entertaining. The trek was very well organised with guides monitoring and controlling traffic on the few occasions we were on the road.
Danni H — Google review
Had the best time trekking with the Alpacas on a beautiful Sunday morning. The volunteers were really knowledgeable and made you feel at ease around the animals. The trek itself takes about an hour and is at a very leisurely pace, but over some steep, rocky and muddy terrain. The Alpacas are really quite placid and clearly enjoy their walk. The dodgy terrain is a breeze for them, and they love the food provided by the farm. My Alpaca was called Forest, and he behaved really well all the way around. I would definitely recommend this experience for anyone who has a love of animals, just make sure you have suitable footwear for the occasion. Fantastic experience.

Most amazing time going on the alpaca trek today! The staff and alpacas were all super friendly and made the experience even better. Something I will recommend to all my friends and definitely do it again soon!

Absolutely loved going on the Alpaca/Llama walk on 9/8/22. Beautiful trails to walk along, and the alpacas were very well behaved! The volunteers were very knowledgeable and even let us say hello to the chickens and pigs after we had finished the walk. Would 100% recommend!! 🦙🦙🦙

Fantastic experience on a trek! I decided to book a trek for my fiancé's birthday and we had such a wonderful experience! Theo was such a sweetheart and my partner walked Jefe who was so nice to handle! The staff are so friendly, chatty and take great pictures! They give you lots of feed for the alpacas and Llama, we throughly enjoyed the visit and highly recommend!! Thank you for having us!

A lovely morning walking with the alpacas and lama through beautiful scenery. The guides and animals were lovely and we also enjoyed having a look around the farm afterwards.

Got it as a gift for my birthday and we definitely had a great time with Jefe the llama! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Would 100% recommend it. I have been meaning to go here for a while, and I finally went. We went as a group of 5 for an away day with work, but we couldn't have asked for a better activity. It was funny as the Alpacas and Llama each had their own cheeky characters, and we had a good laugh, I loved meeting them all. I was with the Llama El Jefe and will definitely not forget him♡ They are really lovely animals, and the day finished off with the Alpacas having the cutest dip in the pond! Holly hagg Farm is definitely a community I support. They educated us on the history of the farm and community, and of course the Llama and Alpacas, too, as well as introducing them all to us. I will visit again.

Will4Adventure Ltd is a company that organises outdoor activities, including hiking and mountaineering. The company's services are highly recommended, as they help people to gain a great deal of confidence when tackling heights.
Recently attended a full weekend mountain first aid course with other members of my climbing club. It was a full 2 day course and pretty intense but absolutely brilliant. Our trainer, Liz was very knowledgeable and professional and the time flew by. By the end of the weekend, I felt so much more confident and better equipped to manage a whole array of medical emergencies both on and off the mountains. Thank you!

Just completed the 2 day ‘Overcoming Fear of Heights’ course in the Peak District. An amazing and invaluable experience. Will, Hayden and Brian all extremely professional, experienced, encouraging and fun, despite the challenges. Can’t believe what I achieved in just 2 days and now looking forward to conquering Striding Edge later this year. Thank you guys. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

My wife and I had the most phenomenal weekend with Adam from Will4Adventure. It’s the second time we’ve done this climbing course and we will definitely be back for more. For some context, I love the outdoors so was very stoked for this weekend whereas my wife had only climbed in bouldering gyms and was understandably nervous. It took some convincing and she agree to book the first one . Straight away, we bonded with Adam and we were both comfortably at ease with his style. The highlight for me was watching my wife gaining confidence as we both learned to be a climbing team. Supporting each other belaying, climbing on real rock, abseiling and starting to lead a couple bits. This would not have been possible without Adam and Will4Adventure. Stop reading this and book now :P

Just completed a 16 hour Outdoor First Aid course with Will4adventure at their Camberley location. The course was run by Lizzy, who was excellent. I have undertaken 3 previous courses - this was the first with Will4adventure and was by far the best. Everything was relevant, Lizzy kept the course interesting and the scenarios made great practice. I highly recommend and will definitely return when my renewal is due.

The day was exceptional and a memory we'll cherish. Huge props to Adam for going through everything we specifically asked for and explaining all the relevant safety procedures in a clear and engaging way (explaining why each step was needed, what would go wrong if it wasn't done correctly). We felt incredibly safe and learned some solid foundations! Already looking forward to booking the next session once we get some top rope/sport practice in.

I have just completed my second adventure with Will4Adventure and I am still buzzing! I honestly can't recommend this experience enough - I have gained so much confidence to tackle heights and this has opened up a whole new world to me! Thank you to all of our guides for being so kind, encouraging and knowledgeable - you have created a very special and unique experience. If anyone is undecided as to whether or not to book onto a course, my advice is 'just do it'! :)

I was lucky enough to be on the ‘Overcome Your Fear of Heights’ course last weekend in the Peak District with Will, Stu and Brian, and it was a truly amazing experience! The weekend was professionally run, really good fun and most importantly effective! I have suffered with a fear of heights (and particularly massive bridges) for the last 20 years but only 3 days after the course, I am now driving confidently over the Kessock Bridge in Inverness (a big bridge!) and looking forward to many other amazing adventures without a crippling fear hanging over me and spoiling so many days out! I recommend this course to anyone who is fearful and is letting a fear of heights stand in the way of living life. You will be amazed at what you end up doing in just two days! I admit that I thought about backing out several times before showing up on the Saturday morning as I was so unsure as to what my expectations should be. I’m SO glad I didn’t back out, as this has changed my life for the better. The classroom session with Brian was sensitively run and although a bit baffling at the time, worked incredibly well. I would love to share the secret of how effective this session is, but I have no idea how it works…it just does! The outdoor sessions for the rest of the weekend were fantastic! Will and Stu were incredibly supportive, understanding and encouraging without forcing or coercing you to do anything uncomfortable. They simply encourage you towards success and then congratulate you when you achieve it! Their inspiring insights, reassuring words and manner spur you into trying things you would never have believed possible, in fact by day two I was at the front of the line for every activity! Yes me!!! Thanks to Will and the team, I have already made incredible progress and intend to continue pushing the boundaries with my newly discovered confidence. If you are thinking about doing this course, then don’t hesitate, go for it and you will never look back! Thanks to Will, Stu and Brian. I’m already looking forward to the next adventure with you guys!

My daughter and I had a fantastic couple of days trekking in Snowdonia with Will as our Guide. Will was very kind and patient throughout, guiding us safely using his expertise and knowledge of the area. We navigated as many Welsh 3000s as we could, despite challenging high winds and bad weather, which we could never have completed on our own. He was particularly considerate with my daughter, who has a fear of heights but Will guided her patiently through some of the trickier descents. I highly recommend Will4Adventure.

'm just back from attending the 'Overcoming your fear of heights' course in the Peak District and would highly recommend it. Having spent much of my lifetime in the mountains with no issues, in recent years a fear of heights and falling was really stopping me from doing the things I love. This course had been recommended to me by a friend who had had great success with it, so I thought why not give it a go? I am so glad I did! The whole two days were excellent. The 'theory' morning with Alison, exploring my thoughts as to where my fear might have come from was excellent and really got me thinking. After just a couple of hours I had some practical ideas to try out that might help. Moving straight onto the practical activities for the rest of the weekend worked so well. Despite a background of moving on rock, I was anxious as to what we might be asked to do but Adam and Angie made me feel at ease right from the start. They both had a real insight into where each of us was starting from and were skilful in giving us each enough challenge without overwhelming us. Their knowledge and expertise was second to none and made everyone feel secure and confident in the tasks. By the end of the weekend I felt that I had got part of my real self back. I felt more confident, less fearful, and armed with enough knowledge and insight to help myself keep improving. In the 48 hours since since the course finished I've been and stood on some rocks with a sheer drop below, something I've not been able to do for a long time, and had a short session at the climbing wall in which I didn't shake at all! Thanks Will and team for an outstanding weekend. This is one that really does impact in a life-changing way!

You start with theory and then apply it in a practical fashion. I wouldn’t contemplate attempting leaping across this gap before this course but here is the evidence. I learnt a lot about positive thinking but also balance and how to notice your body when moving. I would recommend this course to build your confidence when outside your comfort zone at height

Attended an outdoor first aid course run by Will4Adventure at Awesome Walls in Sheffield. The best first aid course I've attended by a mile in terms of delivery and content covered. Will and his team's teaching style was enthusiastic, friendly and engaging. Easy to understand and follow with plenty of opportunities to engage. Their depth of knowledge and ability to relate to real life experience and events was extremely helpful. Plenty of scenarios to practice what you learnt with clear feedback and learning points after. I'd thoroughly recommend Will and his team to anyone looking to do a first aid course.

I recently took part in a Peak District guided walk with Will4Adventure, and I’d highly recommend it! Despite the rain I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, I explored new areas of the Peaks I’d not seen and the team at Will4Adventure did a great job to ensure that everyone had a fantastic time. Our guide for the day (Dean) was really great, very knowledgeable, friendly, and safety-conscious, making me feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire adventure. Whether you're a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or a complete beginner, Will4Adventure has something for everyone. I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking to explore the great outdoors or learn some new skills by taking part in one of their courses.

Have just completed the ICT Outdoor First Aid course with Will4Adventure. This is a great course and Will & Jane delivered it really well with enthusiasm & insight. I really enjoyed it and feel much more confident now should I find myself in a situation where first aid is required. Will made the course both fun and interesting, and covered a good range of topics, all of which are relevant to situations I might find myself in, and went into enough detail without us being overloaded with information. I also found it really useful that he put everything into context by telling us about his own experiences. Seeing what kit he carries was really useful as well, and how to use things for different purposes, reducing the amount you need to carry. I highly recommend both the ICT Outdoor First Aid Course and Will4Adventure First Aid not just to anyone looking to do a first aid course, but to anyone taking part in outdoor sports.

Myself and my partner booked onto an introduction to rock climbing course with Will, we have both been climbing indoors since last year but fancied giving it a go outdoors. I managed to go on ‘Overcoming Fear of Heights’ due to my fear and being nervous at heights, On day 1, I woke up and was still in two minds whether to go or not, But I pushed my self to drive the 82miles to the destination, where we were in a classroom learning new techniques off how to overcome the fear, (very interesting). In the afternoon we started to put into action what we had just learned in the classroom, by learning how to (abseil). Humm, I thought but yes, I will anticipate, (as I had never done this before), It was so simple to use the equipment, But I was still very nervous when I stood on the edge off a drop. But with the professionally of the team, I managed to complete part 1 and 2 off this challenge, (and my confidence grew). Then when it came to the final challenge the big one, I lost my bottle, they never put me under any pressure just talked to me and tried to encourage me to do it, but unfortunately my mine was made up not to do it. (Very silly) I then thought should I stop the night and find a hotel or go home and quit as I failed the last challenge, (I decided to go home). On the way home I looked back on the day I had just had and then realised what I had achieved, Yes I learnt how to Abseil and stand on the edge off a drop. (Never been able to do this before). So, in the morning I drove back up for day 2, (still feeling nervous as what was a head, but not ready to quit as that is what I had paid for). Which is when I found out we was going to do some rock climbing (Interesting) The techniques we were shown, was very interesting and I was amazed what can be accomplished, (highly recommended). With all the little challenges done, I was ready for the big climb down and then back up (still nervous). But when I got to the top of the climb the feeling was amazing and (overwhelming at what I had just accomplished) I would highly recommend this course, as they get you to go out of your comforted zone but if you are not happy, they do not push you. (Well worth the experience). Thank you very much for the experience, I highly recommend this course, Well worth the money. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND GO FOR IT.

After two years with no visit to the crucible it was fantastic to be back .There is no place like the home of snooker. The people are friendly and the staff well organized. I will be booking again for next year.

Firstly, I am unaware what the Crucible theatre is like when the world championship snooker is not on. But when it is on, it is a great place to come. Security is good, ramped up after the orange powder attack, and when you enter the staff are polite and helpful. There is a bar where prices are OK and they allow you to take your drink into the theatre. The seats are at a good incline so your view is not obstructed by people in front.

Went to see white Christmas at the crucible theatre the crucible is situated in the vibrant heart of Sheffield city centre next to the lyceum unfortunately can no longer park near due to car free zone in city taxi and local buses trams get you very near tho I have always loved the film staring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye but don't compare because this production was absolutely brilliant really good cast the dancing and singing was just so good and such a lovely rendition of the song counting my blessings the first half was very good but the second half was amazing and finishing with the song white Christmas 🎄 complete with snow the costumes were really good the crucible is an excellent theatre every one can see the production maybe not every where but more or less well I have really enjoyed my evening nothing left to do but dream of a white Christmas and count my blessings absolutely excellent show

A great night out! 8 frames with Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stephen Maguire followed by 2 frames with Yan Bingtao and Mark Williams. Staff are very friendly. The theatre is compact. Viewing and acoustics are both excellent. Seating is comfortable. Could do with more toilets (ladies and gents). First time I've seen a long queue of men at an event! Overall a really nice, reasonably priced experience. Lovely to visit a place I've watched since the 80s. The Winter Gardens are a few hundred feet away. Here you can get close to the TV commentators and snooker icons. There's an area to try some shots yourself if you fancy!

World Snooker Championships What an amazing venue. The whole of Sheffield seemed to be behind the snooker world championships with exhibitions in the Winter Gardens and the Square outside the crucible. The security on the door was thorough but efficient so we didn't have to wait long to get into the venue. Inside the crucible there is a bar (very busy), toilets (also very busy) and a stall selling snooker merchandise. The theatre set up for the snooker was fantastic. The action could be followed easily and the seats more comfortable than othe snooker venues I have been to. The snooker action was gripping and a great experience.

Not been for a long time so wasn't sure what to expect. It was a very well performed play. The actors were very believable which made the performance come alive. I'm so glad I went to watch the performance as it's made me want to continue going to the theatre. Now I know about the £15 tickets I know I can afford to go to the theatre with friends. Thank you Crucible for making it so that the theatre is now affordable to a whole new audience.

The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield has been one of the best venues in Yorkshire - in fact, the north of England - for theatrical performances for many years, and continues to be so. The venue is easily accessible, in a central location. Inside, it's a welcoming space, with helpful staff. The theatre space itself is excellent, with good seating, visibility and acoustics throughout.

Amazing experience. The Crucible is at the Centre of Sheffield. The interior is very modern and almost immersive. I sat in D38 and it was an excellent seat with great view and leg room. Although it is beside the lights so can be a bit warmer. I saw the 2023 revival of Miss Saigon and boy my intentional 4 hour trip from London to Sheffield did not disappoint. This revival was excellent and should get an Olivier. Mr. Lau’s direction and Mr. Poon’s musical score were on point. Joanna Ampil’s execution of the Engineer was remarkable especially her performance of American Dream. Jessica Lee as Kim was just a perfect casting and her voice was soaring like that of Lea Saonga’s. Shanay Holmes performance of Maybe was when I saw the people around me grab tissues, it was masterful. The whole cast and creatives was amazing and they should get a west end run so that more people can see their greatness!

Ice cream shop
This award-winning ice cream producer offers an on-site ice cream parlour where you can choose from their full range of flavours, including special editions. The small village of Dungworth is just outside the Peak District and is a great place to escape the city for a day.
Best ice-cream - even beats Italy. A rustic ice-cream parlour in the heart if the farm - so expect farm smells. We got there for opening at 11am and were in a queue behind 2 other parties and people were queuing behind us. There's no shade in summer so take hats, cream etc. Although its not a place you'd spend hours at. There is a climbing frame for the kids. You can get ice-creams and sorbets in cones or cups as well as a variety of coffee (and I think tea but cant remember). You can see the cows and currently there is building work with diggers ( useful information for people with small kids). The vistas are great. There is also free parking. If the queue is too big or you can't make it between 11 and 5 they have an ice-cream vending machine as well as one for milk & local produce. You can get individual portion tubs or 1ltr tubs in the vendor but only about 5 most popular flavours available. Vendor open between 8am.and 8pm. Awesome idea.

A top place to visit in Sheffield! Super tasty ice cream that comes in a large variety of fun flavours. You can also buy ice cream tubs onsite and there's a farm shop vending machine selling milk, bacon, sausages etc. You can sit and enjoy the beautiful countryside whilst you're there. But it's a shame they don't do any vegan/dairy free ice cream options (apart from sorbet) like some other dairy farm ice cream places do, especially if there's anyone in your family/group with dietary needs as it means you might not visit

Very nice little place with amazing views. Lovely ice cream and lots of flavours. Self serve ice cream and milkshakes 8am to 8pm. A must visit!

This is my second visit and its definitely worth it. Polite staff, very clean and the ice cream is beautiful. It's a great place to visit for all the family just for a tub of home made ice cream with a great variety of flavours the lemon and ginger is my favourite. Go and enjoy the scenery, whilst indulging in the tasty ice cream.

Bless you google Found this treasure of a place on our adventures The ice cream was absolutely amazing There was an option to buy milk and large ice cream tubs to take away I tried the snickers and raspberry one Too good I’ll be back The kids loved seeing the cows resting

A lovely atmosphere and a good range of ice cream flavours to choose from. They have 2 dairy free options, I had the orange sunset flavour and it was a treat. There's a nice walkway and lots of benches you can sit on whilst enjoying the ice creams. You can also stop by the sheep and cows and take a scenic walk around.

Fantastic ice cream and at really reasonable prices too, seriously, we've paid more at ice cream vans for much poorer quality. Easily the best ice cream we've had in Sheffield. In a gorgeous location and our children loved wandering down to see the cows. Picked up a bottle of milk on our way out.

Very Nice place with good ice cream. You also can see the cow farm. Lot of cyclist came to enjoy the ice cream, milk or milkshake

This is an interesting place with a nice assortment of ice cream flavors to choose from ☺️ I had a very bad experience on the first time I tried to go here, I got there at 16:45 and the line was huge, and the last person on the line had a bucket saying “end of the line 😔, last customer”… So that really sucked. My friends really wanted the ice cream so we went to choose some from the vending machine outside, we stood there for almost 1h, the machine was not working properly it would take more than 5min per customer. So eventually gave up, after all the customers were only being able to choose one ice cream per buy, so all of that would mean the 5min per person. The next day we cake again, and even though the line was huge again, this time we got ice cream. It was nice, a bit fatty but nice. For sure nothing that would wait that long to get again. Even though they had ginger ice cream and I love ginger. If you have kids they can be distracted with the cows and other toys, as you ca see the cows that produce the milk for the ice cream. They also have a nice parking lot and clean toilets.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting our cow Molly Dairy Farm, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes, this dairy farm offers a unique experience that combines the charm of a working farm with the indulgence of a delightful ice cream cafe. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the stunning views that unfolded before my eyes. Rolling hills, lush green pastures, and grazing cows and sheeps created a postcard-perfect backdrop that immediately put me at ease. The beauty of nature was truly awe-inspiring and served as a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The dairy farm itself was a treat to explore. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, eager to share their passion for dairy farming. I had the opportunity to witness firsthand the care and dedication that goes into producing high-quality dairy products. It was truly eye-opening and gave me a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind the scenes. Now, let's talk about the ice cream. The ice cream cafe on-site boasted an extensive selection of flavors, each one more tempting than the last. I opted for their signature farm-fresh flavors, and oh, what a treat it was! Creamy, rich, and bursting with flavor, every scoop was a pure delight. The ice cream was made with ingredients sourced directly from the farm, ensuring the freshest and most authentic taste imaginable. The only problem I faced here is the long queue and wait to buy the ice cream. It’s definitely worth the wait though. To top it all off, I enjoyed my ice cream while savoring the breathtaking view from the outdoor seating area. With a panoramic vista of the surrounding countryside, it was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the beauty of nature. I found myself lost in the tranquility of the moment, grateful for the opportunity to enjoy such a serene setting. In conclusion Our cow Molly is a hidden gem that combines the best of both worlds: a captivating dairy farm experience and an unforgettable ice cream cafe. Whether you're a nature lover, a food enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful getaway, this place has it all. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this enchanting destination and immersing yourself in its magical ambiance. It's an experience that will linger in your memory long after you leave." Note : This place is only open on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Times : 11AM - 5PM

Best ice cream parlour in Sheffield. We are so lucky to have this gem right on our doorstep. Incredible flavours! Also provides the best milk you can buy. Lovely scenery and a nice place to visit with the kids.

Simply the best ice cream away from the coast! Reasonably priced, generously sized and a great selection. Plenty of parking. Does get busy and the queues are massive in the summer but there is a cashless vending machine & cashless milkshake cabin there 8am/8pm which are great. Loads of other food stuffs, milk & hot drinks available. Definitely worth going!
Mathew Hopwood — Google review
Love the view while having my ice cream. I totally enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed the richness and creamy texture of the ice cream. But the only thing I was willing to try was some new flavours which I didn't find over there.
Anusha Shetty — Google review
Visited here the first time as I was recommended by my sister. What an amazing experience. Ice creams were 10 out 10, I was expecting the prices to be extortionate but very well priced, I got the giant cone with chocolate with scoops of mint chocolate Ice cream and my wife got the two scoops of Ferrero Rocher altogether £7. There is a bit of a que due to its popularity, however its definitely worth the wait. I would highly recommend to others to try, a great place for couples and families. There are a few benches scattered around for you to sit and the car park is free. Sheffield's Little Gem, I will definitely be returning back and recommend to others to try.

Amazing ice cream and good value for money. Excellent variety of flavours, something for everyone. Great location with lovely views. Plenty of car parking and seating. Toilet facilities are clean and easily accessible. Staff friendly and efficient. Milk also available to purchase from the shop with other bits and bobs. Child's play area behind the shop. Returning customer, would recommend to any ice cream lover.

British restaurant
Joro is a modern British restaurant with elevated tasting menus and unique drink pairings. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it accessible to all. The plates here are on the dinkier side, but the inventive small plates menu makes up for it.
If I could give this place 6 stars then I most definitely would! Incredible service, ambience, and experience. The waiters were so attentive, taking the time to explain each and every dish that was presented. The combination of textures, flavours, and presentation of each dish was carefully thought out, and the wine pairing went down a treat. Might I say the one of the best restaurants I've had in the UK. Well done Jöro Team

An amazing restaurant - one of the best I've been to in the UK. Great atmosphere and the service is outstanding. The food is incredible, full of wondrous and unique flavour, and the bramley apple dessert is one of the best desserts I have ever had. Do yourself a favour and get here- you will not regret it.

I have never had a restaurant experience like my partner, and I had at JÖRO. It was the first time I’ve ever had a tasting menu and it was fantastic. I loved the intimate dining area and the general atmosphere of the restaurant. I had feared it would be ‘stuffy’, but they were quickly quelled with the warmth of everyone we spoke to. I especially enjoyed talking to the sommelier we had, as he was informative and humorous the whole evening. Every part of our meal was thoughtful, from the food to the drinks. We opted for the paired drinks, one alcoholic and non-alcoholic and it rounded out our experience there. The service was also fantastic; everything arrived in good time and our questions were answered fully. It has opened my eyes to what food can be and I believe it was worth what we paid for—small, yet striking and memorable dishes. The complimentary chocolate ganache cake was a lovely touch as well. I’m glad we decided to come here for our anniversary, and I look forward to our next visit!

We spent our Valentine's treat at the chef's table at Jöro, which offered an exquisite dining experience that seamlessly blends flavours from Asia, South America, and China. The 10-course menu is a culinary journey that showcases the creativity and skill of the chefs. Each dish is thoughtfully crafted to highlight the unique qualities of the ingredients while harmoniously integrating global influences. We started with Japanese milk bread, and a procession of beautiful and tasty dishes followed, including sea trout, baked haddock, octopus, pork belly, scallops, hoggert, finishing with Yorkshire rhubarb. Along with impeccable service and a commitment to quality, it's an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Our first visit will not be our last. My only disappointment was not having discovered Joro sooner. Friendly and welcoming Luke and his team do an outstanding job. Fine dining at its best with an informal atmosphere and vibe. We had the 8 course tasting menu - loved the Asian inspired/fusion style and impossible to highlight a favourite it just kept getting better and better as the menu progressed. We are regular fine diners and Luke’s skill in balancing flavours, textures and presentation in each dish was outstanding. We sat near the pass and observed a highly talented team operating like a well oiled machine. Every staff member we spoke to had a very high level of knowledge of both the dishes and indeed the wines. We stayed over in House of Joro where Sarah sets an equally high standard of hospitality in their contemporary styled and comfortable accommodation. Best quality (and quantity) continental style breakfast I can ever remember. Congratulations Luke you’ve set the bar at high, keep up the great work. Looking forward to our next visit.

Lick you plate kind of food. Probably the best meal I've ever had. We got served a array of in-season dishes and went for the 10 course taster menu - every dish delivered, each playing their part in the wider meal. Small yet powerful dishes delivered with elegance and professionalism by the educated staff. Treat yourself and go visit Joro.
Ollie Nurser — Google review
What a fantastic experience, and highly recommended for anyone who throughly enjoys an innovative tasting menu. A lot of thought went into each of the dishes, along with a detailed explanation from obviously passionate staff. I recommend the 10 course meal, as I didn’t feel overly full at the end and gave an enjoyable experience. It had a great range of quality meals, amazing flavours, and tastebud tingling ingredients. Personally I didn’t enjoy the drinks paring. This was mainly because it didn’t offer a wine specific pairing, and included cider and beer, which I personally didn’t enjoy nor did I feel complimented the meal. Even the wine it did contain I felt didn’t reflect their incredible wine menu offering, instead selecting more of the… alternative options. I left wanting a standard, good quality, familiar wine. However, the meal was finished with a delicious liquor, preceded by a delicious drink I would describe as a miniature pudding cocktail. Thank you to the wonderful staff, and talented chefs. You are a credit to your industry, and hope to be invited back again soon!

The best tasting menu I've ever had. We tried to pick a favourite course but we just couldn't as they were all great. The cherry on top is that this place is dog friendly so we were able to enjoy my husband's birthday meal with our dog. The owner even brought out a spare dog bed for our dog to use whilst we ate.

Joro are undoubtedly deserving of at least one Michlin star. The foods are superb, well-thought-out dishes, with quality ingredients and wonderful flavours. The staff are very knowledgeable about the dishes and ingredients; the atmosphere and surroundings are top class. Already planning our next visit! Highly recommend, especially the kitchen bench experience.

This was THE best dining experience I’ve ever had! Before tonight the best meal I ever had was a Filet Mignon in 2010. Almost 14 years later it’s been knocked off the top spot by 3 of the dishes on the 8 course tasting menu. The atmosphere was amazing, the calm, quiet, and chilled vibe was on point. Being in the restaurant completely removed me from Sheffield. Didn’t feel like I was in Kansas anymore! The staff were so attentive but not close to annoying or intrusive. 100% coming for more. 10 course next time. So satisfying, so happy.
Tony Warner — Google review
We had reason to visit Matlock, and having read Giles Coren's review of Joro, we decided to make an overnight trip and have dinner here. It absolutely lived up to our expectations - the depth of flavours delivered was exceptional. We upgraded to the 10 course tasting with wine pairing and revelled in reliving each course with our night cap whisky. If you love your food and are happy to take the wine pairing recommendations which were unusual but perfect, you're in for a treat. The only reason I gave 4* for atmosphere was the music they played wasn't, in our opinion a great match for the food. We have a very contemporary Indie oriented taste in music, but there was just too much rap for our liking. I respect this is part of their style, but, for us, took the edge off the evening a little. But please don't let this put you off - the food is amazing, the staff charming and the wine adventurous - but forewarned is forearmed! We will definitely be back - and next time might simply make dinner at Joro our excuse to drive 3.5 hours from Epsom to Sheffield! Oh, and stay at House Of Joro if you can - loved the informality of the place - great to be able to sit and enjoy a book, or use the laptop in the cool communal living area. Continental breakfast was delicious - granola, yoghurt, smoked fish, banana muffin, treacle soda bread, Serrano ham and as much coffee or tea as your heart desires.

Exceptional, truly a great experience start to finish. Thanks to all the staff, attention to detail is fantastic, never an empty water glass, and even went to the effort to wait to serve food till my partner was back at the table. Everything is so effortlessly themselves, a unique dining experience and something I recommend to anyone. Food is outstanding, and the balance of dishes is excellent, everything has its reason, and should not go unnoticed.

Lunch. Sheffield finest restaurant. Located in a shipping container on the Sheffield bypass with sleek, Scandi decor.Plus a favourite of ours an open kitchen. They serve a 5 course £45,8 course £75.A 10 Course Tasting Menu £95 which we chose. For their second lunchtime sitting. This is a very relaxed informal dining experience. With a fast-paced,slick service. To get you started, there's a snack Croustade,Hafod cheddar- alliums With Japanese milkbread Roasted garlic & miso butter Then comes the first of 10 courses. A mixture of dishes with fermented, cured fish, vegetables and meat dishes. Each one bursting with flavours and beautiful presentations. We won't list all the different courses as you can see them in the pics. The outstanding dish for us was the lberico pork,'Imperial Kaigun Karē. Quite possibly the best pork dish we have ever had the pleasure of eating. Fine dining in a unique location. If you're not used to dining this way, their 5-course menu is very reasonably priced for newbies. Although they are listed in @michelinguide and we don't say this often, they deserve to be awarded the very elusive star to go with all their other awards.

During a recent visit to Barnsley I looked up local cafes in the area. I always like to find local independent old fashioned cafes serving good quality food at a reasonable price. It’s smartly styled & very busy / popular with the locals. I waited ages to get a picture of it empty as it had been packed all the time I was there . Good quality wholesome food with decent portions. The staff were friendly & the service was quite quick. Worth a visit. I shall definitely return when I’m back in the area.

There's a real shortage of decent cafes in Barnsley that know how to cook a breakfast but PJ'S isn't one of them. We've tried the Market cafes, all of them, vile. Bacon and sausages deep fried (or at least taste like it) and bread/toast smothered in cheap margarine, then while we were passing we thought we would try PJ's and finally, finally found a nice breakfast. We go there every Friday while shopping now. It's relaxed, clean, the staff are friendly and attentive and it's the first time I've finished the food I've ordered. Will have to try a dinner soon. Keep it up PJ's, best cafe in barnsley! However, I thought I'd try out the lunches 4 days later. Wasn't busy, just 4 tables full. I walked in and sat down as I always have done and awaited staff to take my order, and waited....and waited...and no staff came. After about 17 mins I just left so I've knocked my previous full Stars down I'm afraid.

A Sheffield restaurant that has won awards for its Yorkshire cuisine, Silversmiths is a great place to go on a Saturday night. The menu has something for everyone and the service is always top notch.
On a delightful Sunday, we decided to visit a local restaurant renowned for its Sunday lunch offerings. The experience was nothing short of remarkable. The food, a splendid showcase of both quality and value, exceeded our expectations. Every dish served was a testament to the chef's prowess in blending traditional flavours with a modern twist, ensuring a memorable culinary journey for all. The staff at this establishment were the icing on the cake. Their friendly demeanour and swift service added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience. They were attentive without being intrusive, striking the perfect balance that allowed us to savour our meal in comfort. It's rare to find a place that hits all the right notes like this one did. For anyone looking for an exceptional Sunday lunch that doesn't break the bank but delivers immensely on taste and experience, this restaurant comes highly recommended. It's a gem that undoubtedly deserves a visit, promising an experience that will linger on your taste buds and memories alike.

The restaurant is inside a building which was formally a silverware manufacturing site owned by George Ellis, hence the name. We visited as a family on a Saturday evening and booked ahead 2 days before, managing to get the last available table. It's a very nice restaurant, the staff were very attentive. The food was OK, quite expensive for what we had in my opinion but it is a fine dining restaurant so expect these prices!

My friends and I had a great meal here the other evening and absolutely loved this cute, cozy restaurant. Between the food, drinks and service, we were all very impressed. The food quality was fantastic : there was a great range of things, even on the set menus they provided and there was something to suit everyone's taste. The drinks were also well made and had lovely flavours to them. The service was fantastic as well and our servers throughout the evening were helpful and great at recommending dishes. The only downside for us was the sticky toffee pudding, as we all ordered it thinking it would be out of this world and it wasn't warm (which made it taste a bit dry). Overall though, I would definitely return.

The food is decent for the price and the service was amazing. I found the flavor of curry powder in the chicken terrine a bit overwhelming and the Yorkshire pudding was too greasy to eat with the roast beef.

Food was all absolutely fantastic and beautifully presented. Portions were impressive and I was astonished at the price point being so accessible. The service was also top-notch, the staff genuinely seemed to care and were warm and friendly. The atmosphere was also brilliant, the decor is lovely and they have a bookable room for private functions seating 14 - definitely keeping that in mind for my future meetings and celebrations! We had plenty of food and we even took one of our sides home with us as we were filling up quickly. I'm not huge on desserts but the jelly and ice cream I had was perfection, a very modern take on a childhood classic. I highly recommend visiting, definitely within the upper end of my Sheffield tierlist.

The steak was cooked perfectly! It was the best patè I've ever tasted! Beautiful atmosphere and the staff are so lovely. Amanda was so attentive and made our evening! (Especially after my partner accidentally dropped his honeycomb on the floor and she brought a replacement!) There was a couple complaining the fish was off near us, however my partner had the same meal and it was in no way "off!" The way this customer swore and abused the staff for discount or a free meal was disgusting. Again- the staff handled the complaint so professionally and listened so attentively. Highly recommend this place! 👌 Thankyou so much! 💓

Mothers Day at Silversmiths Following my experience, I am now waiting to see Silversmiths do a second appearance on Kitchen Nightmares as every table was dissatisfied with many storming out saying they would not be returning. This place is a combination of extortionate pricing, appalling portions and terrible management. The positives: · The waitress was lovely, polite, attentive and apologetic · The plum chutney on the starter had an excellent flavour · The gravy on the main was very good · The dining area was comfortable, with appropriate lighting and music at a level that was pleasant and did not interrupt conversation The negatives: · We left hungry despite having a 3 course meal due to abysmally small portions · The starter portion was small, half a slice of thin toasted bread and the thinnest possible slither of terrine they had been able to cut · The main the beef was all cooked to a single level of ‘doneness’, perfectly rare for myself but far too rare for other guests who had requested well done or medium · The main the roast potatoes were hard in the centre, clearly not a roasting variety and the cheapest they had been able to lay their hands on · The leeks on the main were virtually unidentifiable, cut fine and cooked to death in a white / grey coloured sauce with guests asking ‘what’s that?’ · The parsnip on the main was just a quarter of a parsnip, poorly coloured but tasty · The dessert (by far the worst of the courses for appallingly small portion) could fit on a single spoon, the baklava consisted of two pieces of approximately 3cm in length, a little bit of some sort of puree and 2 cubes of Turkish delight, the sticky toffee pudding consisted of a single cube of pudding of little more than an inch, a small ball of oddly flavoured icecream, a few chocolate shards, a bit of sauce and some stray pistachios, clearly not intended for the dish but accidentally added as they’d done the baklava’s for the same table. · The manager was running round like a headless chicken dealing with complaints about the food which was quite distracting and probably should have told them something was seriously wrong with the menu. There were numerous complaints I observed covering people being unable to taste the flavours they were expecting, to portions (lots of these, even from children, there was a young boy who loudly exclaimed 'but mummy where's the rest of my pudding? I like big puddings'), the pricing of the poor portions, the level of cooking (with many being unhappy about the rare beef / pork served) and the quality of facilities (covered later). · I personally complained to the manager as I went to the toilet when we arrived only to be tipped to the floor as it was not secured to the wall / floor. I then returned just before leaving to find that the faulty toilet was still open with no out of order notice, I raised to the waitress who summoned the manager. The manager was rude, questioning why I would return to the toilet knowing it was faulty, I pointed out I had done him a favour reporting it so that it could be closed as someone less able could potentially be injured. He just muttered he hadn’t had time; personally I would think customer safety should be a priority. · Although it didn’t bother our party, they had advertised a free glass of prosecco for mum on arrival (given we were having mothers day menu) but this wasn’t even offered. · The waitress although attentive couldn’t answer basic questions about the menu and didn’t know for example that certain drinks only came in a one size (not pints / half’s)

Visited for Sunday lunch. Can’t rate this restaurant highly enough! Food was amazing, service impeccable and the ambience is lovely. Would absolutely recommend and will definitely go back if ever in Sheffield again.

My husband and I visited Silversmiths, a few months after our daughter was born and it was the amazing ‘night off’ we both needed. The food, drinks and staff were outstanding. The staff serving us couldn’t be more helpful, knowing the menu well and offering recommendations when requested (by my indecisive self). The staff went above and beyond and were able to make a drink on the menu with alternate flavourings when asked and it was no problem at all. The food was delicious, and we will definitely be returning (when we get another night off)

Incredible experience. By far the best food and restaurant in Sheffield. Tasting menu on a Saturday is superb value and absolutely delicious. Stuart and his staff were incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. 5 stars all round.

Nearly perfect. Thought the beef tartar was bland and underseasoned and the Korean burger quite wet so definitely knife and fork job. Cheese desert lovely.

South Indian restaurant
Maveli is a curry house in Sheffield that specializes in traditional South Indian cuisine. The restaurant's interior features carpeting, banquettes, and retro lamps, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere. They offer a wide range of options for different dietary preferences, including a vegan menu with plenty of choices. Maveli stands out from typical Indian restaurants by offering Indian-style chicken nuggets and dosa, a type of crepe made from fermented rice and lentils.
Kerala Porotta, Chicken curry and Chicken 65 very good. Beef pieces too much cooked and biriyani average. All items less spicy than original Kerala dishes but that is expected. Overall good atmosphere friendly and speedy service.

We went as a group of 12. Very friendly staff. They clearly knew how to introduce South Indian cuisine to those who aren’t familiar with it. I can confidently say that the food I had was some of the most authentic Kerala food I had tasted outside India. I personally tried the Malabar Porotta and Tranvancore Beef Fry and remembered my good old days back home. I also tasted the Idly, Dosa, Allepey Fish Curry and couple of other dishes too and have never been more satisfied. Regards from a malayali from Australia. Keep up the great taste.

An amazing South Indian restaurant in Sheffield! Tried their Malabar parotta, beef roast, prawn mango curry and the masala tea. The parotta was fluffy and soft and both the curries were super flavourful and delicious. The masala tea was authentic as well. Inspite of being busy, the staff were super helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend!!

Went for dinner at Maveli. Decent number of guests there, but staff were friendly and service was quick. Unfortunately dosa crepe was a bit soft for my liking (would go for Masala Dosa instead of Mysore Masala in future) but otherwise food was okay.

One of the best south indian restaurants in Sheffield. Had a Mysore Masala dosa(with spicy masala fillings), chicken biryani and Tea. The Masala dosa was cold but the taste is good. Biryani is nice and had good quantity. The best thing is the Sambar that I liked the most and the coconut chutney. Would suggest for dine in.

A fantastic Indian restaurant that specialises in South Indian cuisine. It’s ‘different’ to other Indian restaurant, but not in the way some fad street food restaurants are - the food is incredible with very generous portions. The chicken Dosa was very tasty and something unique, and the onion bhajis were among the best I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommended!

Pleasure dining at Maveli, and despite not having a reservation, I was able to secure a seat after a short wait of around 20 minutes. Right from the moment I entered, I was greeted with a warm welcome by the staff, which made me feel at ease right away. The prices at this restaurant were very reasonable, which was a pleasant surprise given the high quality of the food. Speaking of which, the South Indian cuisine on offer here was simply delicious! I tried a few different dishes, and each one was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic South Indian dining experience. The friendly staff, good prices, and excellent food make it a must-visit for anyone who loves South Indian cuisine. Whether you're a seasoned fan or trying it for the first time, this place is definitely worth checking out!

This was the first restaurant I visited since moving to sheffield, recommended by an international Indian post student friend. First impression upon entering was authenticity vibes. This carried on to the food, with spices and herbs fully and correctly utilised. The interior vibe is very relaxed, and family-run vibes. The customer service was very friendly. Overall, a positive experience eating here, so I highly recommend!

A great Indian restaurant! The Nilgiri chicken is a favourite of mine. Kind and welcoming staff and quick food service, even at peak times. Have come many times and will go many more!

Super delicious Halal Indian food. Menu is not typical with the regular traditional Indian dishes. Staff are super friendly. If your child doesn’t easy spicy food, mention this and a mild dishes can be served. Enjoy your dinner.
