Pitt Rivers Museum

Mentioned on
Museum
The Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford is a fascinating collection of ethnographic artifacts, which includes blowpipes, magical charms, feather cloaks, shrunken heads and trophy scalps. The museum is located behind the Victorian-Gothic Museum of Natural History and is a dimly-lit wonderland for those curious about different cultures. It contains glass cases and wooden drawers that are packed with treasures from shrines to zithers.
Awesome place! The Natural history museum is an amazing building, so much to see architecturally as well as dinosaurs and other animals. We particularly love Pitt Rivers ( inside the NHM) and especially the curiosities in the glass cabinets. No shrunken heads any longer but well worth a visit!

Wonderful museum. Their catalog has items from all over the world. Each piece tells a story about a time, culture and people. Moreover, they do acknowledge the colonial and imperial history of the museum. Some artifacts were collected against the will of the indigenous people and draconian means were used. They also sell some good souvenirs.

Located in the heart of Oxford, the Pitt Rivers Museum stands as a captivating testament to the wonders of anthropology and human history. During my recent visit, I found myself immersed in a world of diverse cultures and fascinating artifacts that span centuries. The museum's unique layout, with its dimly lit galleries and narrow walkways, creates an atmosphere of intrigue and discovery. As I ventured deeper into the exhibits, I was met with an impressive collection of artifacts from around the globe. The sheer variety of objects, from intricate masks and ceremonial weapons to everyday tools and textiles, offered a glimpse into the lives and customs of cultures long gone. Overall, the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford is a captivating destination that appeals to history enthusiasts, anthropologists, and curious visitors alike. Its extensive collection of anthropological artifacts, thoughtful curation, and unique setting by the river make it a must-visit attraction.

Many items all crammed into one lovely tall building with multiple floors. Descriptions on some items are lacking and the museums attempts to justify some items being removed is rather limp. The Japanese Noh masks are beautiful and the interaction of opening the draws is fun and engaging, take a free still and do some sketching. Pitt rivers is located at the back of the natural history museum.

Steeped in history, this place needs a few hours to explore and discover what's on display. Friendly staff, and lots to see. Bear in mind that the display cabinets are quite close together so getting around, especially if it is busy, may not be as easy as you'd like. It's free to.enter but take a fiver with you as a donation to keep the place going. Not much parking close by so recommend doing park and ride. 😊
Anne Skelton — Google review
This place is where the weird and wonderful go to take rest!! The most interesting artifacts I think I've ever seen inside a museum. The space itself is really awesome, I felt like I was in a movie and Indiana Jones may pop out from behind a cabinet at any moment. Really take your time in here. Look in and around things as there is so much to see. I especially liked the different masks, being a horror movie buff you can see where inspiration has come from in these sometimes unsettling masks. One could easily spend all day in there so leave plenty of time for your visit.
Leanne Smith — Google review
Wow, what a great place, so many things to see in such a small place. It's a bit like a condensed version of the London Natural History museum. Well worth a visit if you are in Oxford. 100% recommended.
Andy Seymour — Google review
Nice small gallery with human evolution there are exhibits form various cultures and countries and happy it had srilankan exhibits too . Egypt , japaneese and Polynesian exhibits are the most attractive things there had a nice time with the family
Thilange Mahapatune — Google review
Very interesting, amazing the quantity of items in there ! The last floor with all the weaponry is very nice to walk around and see the evolution. Lots of musical/artistic elements also too see what was used around the world and ages. Theere are drawers under the display with even more objects, it seems impossible to see it all in a day. Only issue when we came was the elevator not working. Maybe it lacks a bit of detailed explanation by item ?

Absolutely brilliant! Second time we have been and spent the whole day there (myself and 3 children aged 15, 11 and 9). The displays are interesting and the wooden mouse hunt kept my youngest entertained. The staff are very friendly, helpful and very inclusive/disability aware. Thank you so much!

It was beautiful. Only issue was I went with my blind son with his college. We emailed in advance and nobody got back about accessibility. I spoke to 2 people in there asking about a touch tour or audio information to be told there isn't any. The second person mentioned that there was a bear he could touch in the main atrium. As it happens, when we got in there we were amazed by how much tactile things there were, plus there are some amazing braille information points with tactile drawings. Absolutely perfect. Unfortunately we only had a couple of hours. Would like to have spent more time there. Recommended for blind and visually impaired visitors. Just wish the staff knew that.

I wished I lived in Oxford. I could spend one visit on each aisle, taking a year or so to properly see everything. The collection is cooky, interesting and broad. Some may find its eclectic nature to be out of step with modern thinking but that is history. The collection itself is interesting but also provides insight into colonial travel and souvenir/artifact collection from a different age. So many amazing artifacts. I often found myself wanting a display dedicated to many, many individual items. I love a museum that leaves me wanting more, questioning my preconceived ideas and teaching me something about history and different cultures.
pilotdane — Google review
Amazing experience. So much to see you could use up a whole day in there. A donation is recommended just because of how much there is to see for free
Lewis Bromell — Google review
Fascinating for human history lovers and includes an especially rich collection of weaponry from katanas, guns, knives and swords. A lot on ancient boats, instruments, clothing and toys that you could spend hours in there on one part of the museum.
Laura Hayward-Price — Google review
A museum co-occupying the same building as the Natural History Museum, both are completely free with only a suggested donation. This one is far more densely packed with historical artifacts across cultures and historical periods. They won’t have a single bow and arrow, they’ll have a dozen from different peoples’ in a single cabinet. Really a rich museum
Matty B — Google review
The Pitt Rivers Museum is accessible through the Natural History Museum, it holds the archeological and anthropology collections of the University. It is not like other Museums that I’ve visited, instead of being spacious places, the Pitt Rivers Museum has the display cabinets are tightly packed together and the objects within them, very closely packed. The variety of exhibits is dizzying in their variety. A very important change has happened with this museum, there is a recognition that it had been established and presented in a very western centric fashion and that road roughshod over the originating cultures. Additionally the skeletons that had been on display have been removed and in some cases, returned to their originating countries. We spent a couple of hours in the museum and only really skimmed the surface. We’ll have to go back. This place is highly recommended. Make a point of making a donation.
Peter Meade — Google review
The Pitt Rivers Museum is only accessible through the Natural History Museum. The exhibits are exhaustive and cover all the world and most of human history. Everything is tightly packed, in contrast to the Ashmolean and other museums in Oxford. It has a presence similar to that of a Victorian anthropologists back room, with the treasures of his many adventures. A maximalist’s dream museum. Some of the new plaques displaying the modern academic anti-western guilt and self flagellation are a little tiresome and detract from the overall feel of it, but the collection itself is still fantastic, and a reason to come back time and time again. I absolutely recommend coming. There is a cabinet for everyone.
Lorne Inglis — Google review
Fabulous museum - so much to see, fascinating fire lighting, curvy spoons and ingenious indigenous arctic clothing, and primal hunting weaponry, looking forward to another explore of other areas at Pitt Rivers (and yes enjoyed the natural history museum too - interesting for all ages)

Ashmolean Museum

Archaeological museum
The Ashmolean Museum is a world-renowned museum in Oxford, England, which houses collections from all over the world. The museum has an extensive range of exhibits, including art from ancient Greece and Rome, paintings by famous British artists such as Turner and Canaletto, and archaeological objects from all over the world. The lunchtime set menu often features dishes themed with current exhibitions for a good value meal.
We travelled up to Oxford specifically for this museum. My Husband has an interest in Japan and it's history and my daughter is currently learning about Egyptians in school. We booked online, entry is free, and added on the family adventure for 4 (as well as donating which I hope everyone does to help such a wonderful museum). The adventure tablets and headphones where superb, I'm so glad we added it on. The games where extremely child friendly, we was able to play games together at certain spots and individually whilst learning about certain pieces. My only slight gripe with this was, there was a section of find the paintings, one of the paintings we was searching for had actually been removed from the room, so we spent 10 minutes wandering before a kind member of the team there helped us. The order of the games was a bit odd, first going up to floor 3, then 2 back to 3 then 2 then 1. It didn't suit us personally, so we just started at the top and worked our way down and then when we got to certain parts included in the adventure we clicked on them. This was we was seeing everything instead of just actively looking at the tablet parts. We was here a good 3 hours and could of spent longer but my youngest was getting tired. We had a pushchair and found the lifts quite small as a family group. The blue lift goes to certain floors then a pink lift for another. Easy to get to grips of and find when you've got your bearings. The shop was fab, bit small with a pushchair and when busy I imagine. My daughter had some books and I had the gin (which was beautiful tasting!). We're looking forward to visiting again.

I absolutely love this museum. Spotlessly clean, spacious and so many interesting exhibits. Free admission but a donation is welcome. Shows arts and cultures from all over the world with some amazing pieces to admire. Clean well maintained toilets. Did not visit the cafe or gift shop so cannot comment.

Fascinating place with many exciting displays. One could lose track of time viewing the countless exhibits. If a guided tour is an option then highly recommended. Allow plenty of time to wander and discover and take a break in their cafe or enjoy a meal in the roof top restaurant.
Jacqui Phillips (Three Crosses) — Google review
Love this museum. Has the bits of history that I enjoy. This time, I spent time in the Anglo-Saxon exhibit and went to see the Messiah violin by Stradivari and 2 other of his violins. Will do it again.
Odlaw — Google review
To say there is something for everyone would be the understatement of the year. However, if you want to know how to deal with a wicked rat-ghost, display your planetary deities, or create an incense holder with an ox sculpture then this is the place for you. If you find the Baroque collection make time to stay awhile.

I was so lucky to be able to photograph Sam and Ben's wedding at the Ashmolean in Oxford. The setting it absolute stunning with the wedding taking place in amongst the beautiful art work. The staff were absolutely amazing and were always on hand to help when needed. What a fantastic and quirky venue to get married at. I highly recommend it.

This museum has a wonderful collection of historical artifacts, especially those from Egypt. The art gallery is impressive, with a wide variety of artwork to admire. You can easily spend 4-5 hours exploring the museum with your family. There's a convenient food court located underground, perfect for grabbing a bite to eat and continuing your visit.
Kaushal Kishore — Google review
Brilliant! The Ashmolean has been on my visit list for years and it was amazing. The museum has a fantastic range of exhibits. It's a beautiful building, lots of space to take your time and not be crowded. Honestly, one visit isn't enough!
Brad Tipping — Google review
I've been in April with my daughter, we spent there half of the day. The museum is impressive, a lot of interesting things to see from different eras of history and different countries. We really enjoyed everything, but the roman statues and the Egyptian hieroglyphs really caught my eye, and another things that I loved were the Stradivarius violins.
Andreea Denisa — Google review
A spot where you could have unintentionally spent hours browsing. Even though several of the galleries were closed for maintenance, there is so much to see and it takes time to thoroughly examine collections from different regions and time periods. I reserved a ticket for a specified time slot, yet it appears that it is not quite essential because I visited on a weekday. Furthermore, the highlights self-guided audio tour, which costs only £3.6 and can be listened to on one’s own digital devices, allows me to swiftly discover the most valuable objects in Ashmolean.

It's free, lots and interesting things to see from Roman times, Egypt, India, China and many more. I love this place. Worth every second of your steps. Toilet are clean, equipped with soap and toilet paper. There is locker provided (GBP1), café and souvenir shop.

Been there quite a few times but it never gets boring! You always find some small detail you haven’t noticed before. Good collections, even my 7 year old brother kept on busy exploring. Great activity to do in Oxford especially considering it’s free. There are toilets, cafe and a restaurant on the top floor.
Demnlive — Google review
Completely free museum with exhibits spanning the globe. You’ll see mummy’s, cast replicas of Roman and Greek statues, Asian bronze work, and so much more. One of the gems of Oxford on my day trip to the college town.
Matty B — Google review
Free to enter. It’s kinda half museum and half art gallery. Lots to see across 5 floors and a cafe and gift shop too. Some interesting local finds as well as the usual Egyptian, Ancient Greek and Roman swag. Good way to spend an hour with the kids. You have to carry rucksacks in your hand, not on your back, presumably so you don’t swing round and knock over the priceless ming vase!

Hadn't planned to visit but discovered I did not need to pre-book. Staff were very informative and had excellent Covid protocols. Free to enter, but please find it within yourself to make a donation! So much to see and you could spends days in here. I had time for the the European Art section and the English Ceramics today. Plenty of information boards explaining exhibits and all cases well labelled. Spacious cafe, lifts, toilets and £1 lockers if you don't want to carry your bag around. Whether you've got an hour or all day, the Ashmolean is a must when you visit Oxford.

The best museum I have ever visited. Understand this museum in in Oxford centre so being a seat of learning caters for all points of history. Clean, spacious with helpful staff. Lifts to floors, gift shop and tea room, spotless throughout lockers for your bags open or lockable umbrella stands (yes lockable) and mobile lightweight seating if you wish to study by an exhibit or rest for a while. Truly a fine place to visit. My visit was to see the Alfred jewel and was not disappointed. A must to visit while in oxford. And to top it all off its FREE. to enter, so drop in and out anytime during the day. A light and airy place not a old traditional dark and dusty museum. Nice to see the young people of Oxford and others studying inside the museum around exhibits. Gave the place such a nice feel.

I had a family day out & I was greeting and looked after superbly by the staff. There are many very interesting facts to learn about the world around us, may it be fiction and non-fictional. There also was a lovely staff member I know personally called Asia, and she just adds her own amazing uniqueness to the place. She organises events for the museum such as top class weddings. She definitely does her job justice.

My visit was specifically to see the Labyrinth exhibition, which was exceptional. The whole enormous building is full of interest & treasure, beautifully displayed and labelled. It would be easy to spend whole days there.

Loved this place. Such beautiful exhibits and so much history. It is good that the Ashmolean recognises some of the problematic sides to their acquisitions through colonialism and actually has a display on this. We enjoyed the juxtaposition of modern art with historical content. Learned so much here and will come back to Oxford again just to revisit this museum. Definitely worth stepping inside if you are in the area. You can spend a whole day here. You can also get a quick shot of culture in a 20 minute whirl.

Great museum. Really varied exhibitions and some things I’ve never seen before. Their ancient Egypt wing really stood out with actual mummies and sarcophaguses!

A great visit if you’re in Oxford. It is free of charge to enter as well! They have spacious lockers, clean toilets, and a shop as well. Museum consists of multiple levels and mainly focuses on the history of the civilization. They have artifacts from around the world. Give yourself at least a couple of hours to visit this place. If you’re very keen, there’s enough things to spend your whole day in it!

Fascinating modern museum explaining the history of civilisations across the globe. Spread across 5 floors, one of which is for exhibitions (paid). Allow extra time for the WC as there's only one!

The Ashmolean Museum is an incredible collection of artefacts from all around the world and different periods of history, as well as featuring some world-class art. It really cannot be overstated, how comprehensive the collection is. It is like a combination of the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museums in Oxford. And apart from the rotating exhibitions it is free to entry. We only spent an hour in the museum, but you could easily spend an entire day and then come back and see some more. There is also a roof terrace with bar and cafe that is lovely in the summer. A real gem and worth a visit if you are in Oxford.

Completely free to enter but donations are recommended. Stunning museum with huge amounts to see over a few floors. It has a bit for every one of all ages and a must see in Oxford for a couple hours.
Robert Greenaway — Google review
Generally a nice place to have a wonder for a few hours, taking in some art and history and doing some sketching. Like most places of this ilk it closes too early and you have to pay £1 for the lockers, which you can get a token for from the shop. The Flemish section is my favourite as there are some hidden gems in there.

Event venue
The Bodleian Library is a massive and ancient institution that houses over 11 million books. This impressive library is located in one of Oxford's most beautiful and historic squares. Tours are available to show off some of the library's hidden treasures, such as its legal deposit status.
Breathtaking, stunning buildings. Beautiful ambience and vibe. £8.75 for family of four to see the divinity school. Kids should be free seeing as they don't really understand, parents have no choice but to take them in with them, therefore we have to pay for them only for them to sit there.
Aasiya Sidat — Google review
📖A Must-See in Oxford - Especially for Bibliophiles📖 While it's free to tour the outside grounds (and they're stunning as-is), it costs only a small sum to have a brief, guided tour of the interior of the Bodleian Library. Our tour guide was awesome, making the experience personable, fun, and interesting throughout. The inside of the School of Divinity can't be captured properly with pictures. Numerous architects have their handiwork on display, and the details, miniature figures, and family crests can be savored for a long while (my personal favorite being Mary and baby Jesus reading a book together). Several films used this location as a backdrop, such as the Harry Potter movies, so fans of cinema will enjoy the tour as much as history buffs. Certain locations during the tour do not allow for photography (such as the inside of the library), so be respectful and mindful about those cues from your guide. I purchased my tickets the day-of at the entrance and did not have to wait long for my tour to begin. It's well-worth the experience and makes a great addition to a day spent in Oxford.

The Bodleian Library in Oxford is a stunning and historic hub of knowledge, perfect for book lovers and history buffs. It’s one of the oldest libraries in Europe, with origins dating back to the 14th century and is also one of the largest libraries in the United Kingdom. Its grand architecture and vast collection make it a must-see attraction for visitors to Oxford.

Went to the Radcliffe Camera to the Solidarity with Ukraine demonstration. Maybe 500 people there, many Ukrainians, Russians, Poles, Georgians, Czechs... all opposed to Putin's aggression against the Ukraine. Messages from the city's MPs, Layla Moran and Annaleise Dodds. Moving speeches from those with family in the Ukraine.
Irene Stratton — Google review
One of the world’s great libraries. It’s worth booking a guided tour weeks in advance to see the Duke Humfrey’s Library. The guides are excellent. The gift shop is also very good. The Radcliffe Camera next door forms part of the library and is a landmark building too (it houses the history faculty library), however it isn’t open to visitors.

I am delighted to have booked the 60-minute guided tour to visit the Bodleian Library. Thanks to our enthusiastic and brilliant guide, Jessica, who provided us with a thorough and articulate explanation. I will certainly plan to visit again, and would love to take the 90-minute guided tour for a more comprehensive experience if it is available. Highly recommend joining the guided tour and reserving a spot in advance through the official website.

It has many section of ticket that you can purchase. Many of them are easily sold out so I would recommend to book it before. Totally feels like you are in Harry Potter 😂. So, please pay a visit here

Do get a guided tour! Make sure to book at least one week in advance as well because the tickets run out. Seeing the oldest section of the library was amazing. The host was very knowledgeable, experienced, fun and entertaining.

We had a great tour today with our tour guide Carmen. She gave us a lot of interesting information in a very friendly and considerate way. The group was small and we received an amplifier which made the tour so much more relaxing. The library itself was stunning and a must see for everyone who enjoys (old) libraries and Harry Potter filming scenes. Make sure to pre-book your tickets online. Otherwise it might be sold out. 4/5 because the ticket is quite pricey with 15 GBP.
Izzie — Google review
Wonderful place full of amazing history. The website stated that all tours were sold out, but you can buy them on the day. The advice we received was that tickets are sold out by 1130hrs, so do it early. The guide was very knowledgeable and easy to follow. We had 14 in our group. They give you a headset to amplify his voice, so it is easy to hear him, even though the guide was quiet in the library. Photos are allowed. There are three lengths of tours, we went for the hour, and it didn't disappoint.

Historic, famous, 400 yr old library. Beautiful and definitely worth seeing when in Oxford. Unfortunately we couldn't go inside this time (wasn't open to the public when i went), but do go inside if you get the chance. Simply amazing structure and contents! Has been in many movies, i believe.
Kaptain Guzzy — Google review
You can go in because it's for students only right now (😭) but it looks cool and apparently there are over 1 million books in the multiple buildings. The architecture is also really fascinating because you wonder " how on earth did they build this 500 years ago". Anyways this is a cool thing to see.
James Nelson — Google review
Lovely place of course, and important. Named for its founder this is one of the oldest libraries in Europe founded in 1602. It is today one of the largest, or in fact 2nd largest library in Britain. The location deep in historic Oxford is easy to access and the architecture is both beautiful and iconic. There is generally a place around the circular building to photograph the site without having to perk through crowds. It is a working library, one of many in Oxford, and this is worth remembering if you want to go inside. There are library tours available but I do not use them. A superb, important and iconic building that is worth visiting, if nothing else, just for the sense of history. When running fully, this site is well served by buses or it is very easy to walk or cycle to.

It was the first college I visited in Oxford, and was awestruck by its beauty. The architecture of the college buildings and large, expansive gardens are absolute delight. An interesting feature of Magdalen college is its deer park which is home to a large deer population. Inside the college premises, there is a lovely walking path along the river which is great for strolling and enjoying the lovely sound of birds and relaxing.

Gorgeous college with lovely places to walk around and soak the green air and the nature! Deer park in the middle always make me feel happy and having such a vast ground space really gives a good amount of walking in the college. I love the chapel and the quads as well. Would have loved to seen the dining hall as well but this seems to not be allowed for visitors.Would love to come back again to see the changes in the seasons!

Another grand college with a grand deer park. Do say hi to Blondie (the deer) when there. Highlights include the cloisters (pictured), the dark and gothic-style chapel (pictured), C.S Lewis’s poem (read it there for vibes), the Oscar Wilde room, and other deers. If open, visit the hall. Also, find the iconic phone booth.

One of the nicest colleges in Oxford to visit - non-local students pay 7£ - but can easily be an hour of relaxed walking around. There is a very nice cloister with photo ops, a large chapel, a large courtyard with a 200 yo tree, a small canal with punters, and two huge park areas extending from it. Best enjoyed in a sunny day, since it is mostly outdoor. You can also get a combines ticket with the Botanical Garden across the street, which is a good deal.

Christ Church is Oxford's largest and most prestigious college, with a proud history dating back to the 1525 founding of Cardinal Wolsey. The college is home to many famous alumni, including Lewis Carroll and Harry Potter. Christ Church's ornate main quadrangle and impressive dining hall are some of the main attractions for tourists visiting the college.
The most famous college in Oxford, inspiring works such as Harry Potter and Alica in Wonderland. Booking ahead is required, as day tickets tend to be sold quickly. Prices are a bit steep (15£ for a student ticket) but its a very nice experience, and it also includes a visit to the cathedral on the same grounds. Most of the times it is quite crowded, so would opt for earliest tickets, or evening. Especially if you want to get nice pics.

A very nice experience to the scenes of Harry Potter the movie. The place is huge and impressive. Bought a ticket and a headset is provided for self guided tour. Not sure if the Hall got lunch time closure. Coz we were informed by the nice guard that the Hall was opened at about 13:30. It was amazing to see the cafeteria of Harry Potter.

Probably the most visited college of Oxford. Christ Church certainly worth a visit. Remember to pre-book your ticket as it can get very crowded and you'll have to wait to get a ticket. Very helpful free audio guide that helps you walk around the college. This college is very popular being one of the filming location for Harry Potter. The grounds are also very beautiful and you must take time to walk around the college.

Located in the heart of the city, Christ Church is conveniently close to museums, shops and restaurants. What a magical experience from the grandeur of the Harry Potter setting of the Grand Hall to the majestic stained glass windows , ceiling detail and font. Even if you choose not to pay to go inside it is definitely worth a visit to take photos from the outside. At the side of the main entrance you can walk through the meadow up to the river.

I was on a self guided tour of Harry Potter locations in Oxford so knew Christ Church was a must. Beautiful building with a lot of history is the inspiration for the Great Hall. Incredible interiors of this stunning church did not disappoint!

Christ Church College is definitely one of the must-visit landmarks in Oxford and not only for fans of Harry Potter. The admission needs go be reserved online in advance and the availability is pretty limited. The dining hall is currently in use so it would be closed during lunch time. It's famous for the movie scenes in Harry Potter series for its dining hall and center field. We were impressed by how brilliant & magnificent the church is and we enjoyed the view very much.

Why do I have to buy tickets online? We were there in person with cash and card and they wouldn't let us buy a ticket. Real jobs worth in the gift shop. Have to go outside and mess around with their website to buy a ticket with our travel cards. Very annoying. The buildings themselves were very nice to see but you won't be spending long there. The cathedral was the highlight - good information about the stained glass etc. Personally I found other smaller colleges better to visit. This felt more like a money grab impersonal tourist attraction. Go to small but pretty college like Balliol instead if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

Beautiful experience. The college was nice, and the cathedral also. Although the price of it is high, I recommend buying the multimedia ticket, it contains a lot of useful and interesting information, and it is translated into many languages. Also, if you want to go there, do buy tickets online in advance, because they tend to sell out quickly.
Andrej Polansky — Google review
Beautiful, historic Oxford college. I have visited several times, but not since they added a new visitor’s center with self-guided audio tours. The audio/video tour is one of the best I have experienced while traveling. It contains a lot of excellent information both about the history of the college and its contemporary use. For people new to the UK/Oxford university system, this tour helps you to understand how things work while gaining an appreciation for the history of this particular college and its cathedral. The meadows are, of course, a lovely place to walk, picnic, or even take a nap!
Joel Childers — Google review
Expected more. Do not pay for a tour if you are a Harry Potter fan: just one hall and stairs. Church needed to visit.
Hanna Kucher — Google review
Be warned that the college is not very accessible. There are many steps throughout, and some pathways in the garden area are muddy/flooded, which I think will be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair or limited mobility. We had a pushchair which had to be carried up/down several flights of stairs (easy for us as we were in a group but I imagine impossible if you're on your own). We were warned of this at the visitor centre, and at the entrance; but I don't remember a clear warning on the website when buying tickets. Tickets are £16 per person, or £12.80 if the cathedral is closed. You can buy online or at the visitors centre. If you buy online you'll still need to queue at the centre for your audio guide. Check the timings for the great hall beforehand, as it closes during lunchtime and you don't want to miss it! It's the highlight of the visit. Overall I think it's worth a visit even if it's pricey.

Very suggestive place to visit. If you are in Oxford you have to see the Church and the college inside. There are also the original location of Harry Potter first movie.

A really beautiful place to visit. Quite large, but the audio walking tour is self-guided so you can move at your own pace. There’s a nice path to the river as well, providing lots to see both inside and outside. Visitors cannot go in the library, but it was fun hearing about the tree that can be seen from within that is the inspiration for the tree the Cheshire Cat sits in throughout the Alice in Wonderland stories.

A pleasant place to visit. Architecturely quite beautiful. We were lucky to have a crisp blue sky bringing out the yellow of the sandstone. Saw the Harry Potter staircase and the hall inspiration for Hogwarts Hall. Liked the coloured glass in cathedral, Burne Jones glass and lovely carved choir stalls.

Christ Church college is one of the best visit of Oxford. I had this place on my list for years, I don’t know why I waited so long. The college is beautiful. You have a multimedia guide included in the ticket to show you around and explain the history of the place. They shot a few scenes from Harry Potter here. No wonder why some area of the college have such an Hogwarts vibe.

Beautiful building, very similar to the parliament in London, unfortunately we could not get inside. But it was very cool to see it even close by.

It was wonderful to revisit a place that has served my family for generations. A very historic building full of history and amazing architecture. The atmosphere is both imposing and inspiring. I would highly recommend a visit as great men and women of history have passed through these buildings.

It's a beautiful place, the interiors are amazing. The college is absolutely stunning. I would recommend booking the tickets online. There's a ticket counter and a small shop nearby. Situated in the heart of the city. Parking would be a bit difficult around this area, better explore by walk.

Modern European restaurant
The Cherwell Boathouse is a quirky and popular restaurant on the river with modern European cuisine. It has a charming setting in an old Edwardian boathouse, and you can hire punts to take you around the river for £18/hour or £90/day during weekends. The regular menu is a bit fussy but there are good tasting menus which cost more but are very worth it.
I was treated by my lovely girls to Mother’s Day Sunday lunch, I had the smoked eel to start, which was to die for, followed by steamed mullet, another dish of total deliciousness. I don’t normally have a dessert, but the pistachio cake with rhubarb swayed me and I was not disappointed, Devine!! We dined in the conservatory, and although an outside space with sides, it was adequately heated, and we were able to enjoy the view of the river, entertained by the punt boats. I would thoroughly recommend, the food was excellent, service very good with knowledgeable staff and we all had a very nice day

We had such a lovely dinner here. The atmosphere is just magical on a nice summer evening and the staff just makes the whole experience even better. -1 star because the steak was completely over cooked when we asked for medium rare

What truly sets the Cherwell Boathouse apart is not just its stunning location or the quality of its food, but the warmth and professionalism of its staff. From the moment you arrive, you're treated with a level of hospitality that makes you feel both valued and special. For those looking to immerse themselves in Oxford's tradition, the boathouse also offers punting—a must-do activity that allows you to experience the city from a unique and enchanting perspective. Whether you're a novice or an experienced punter, gliding along the Cherwell is an experience that captures the essence of Oxford. In conclusion, the Cherwell Boathouse is more than just a restaurant or a boating haven—it's a cornerstone of Oxford's cultural and culinary landscape. It stands as a testament to the timeless charm of the city, offering a sanctuary where food, nature, and tradition come together in perfect harmony. Highly recommended for anyone seeking to experience the soul of Oxford, the Cherwell Boathouse is an experience that should not be missed. My visit was on Saturday, 16th March, at 1 pm with a companion was nothing short of remarkable. Do yourself a favor and upon your visit, mention Darren’s recommendation to speak with Arnold. Request that Arnold crafts you a Negroni; the concoction is simply unparalleled. Also, take a moment to view my photograph for a glimpse into this 5-star venue. Without a doubt, highly recommended.

We had a family dinner here and found this restaurant very enjoyable. The location by the river, the top class service, the interesting menu, and simply great food. Apart from the weather, i don't know what more one could wish for. We are hoping to come back next time we are in Oxford. Note that the location is some way from the centre of Oxford, about 25-30 minutes walk if you are feeling energetic.

We worked with Trish for over a year to plan our beautiful wedding day. From the moment we first contacted her to the wedding day itself, we found the experience to be outstanding. On the day, Joe and all of the staff at the Cherwell Boathouse made our day spectacular-- it was even better than what we could have hoped for. The weather on the day was so summery (early October!), our punt ride was so much fun, and we were so pleasantly surprised to see that the team set up the arrival drinks canapés outside so we could enjoy the perfect weather. The venue was stunning, but what made the event was how lovely, relaxed and accommodating the staff were. The food was excellent. I wish I could have packed more of it in!! When we were preoccupied with our guests, Joe and the team kept things moving beautifully from behind the scenes. When we made requests, they were accommodated very quickly. All of our guests were so happy and had a wonderful day. The pricing was also very transparent and fair. We highly recommend holding your special day at the Cherwell Boathouse.

We had such a fantastic wedding day! Trish and Jonny were so helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and there was so much choice. The venue was great for a wedding, the marquee is lovely and the lower boathouse looked beautiful with all the fairy lights. It was so pretty near the river and we even surprised our guests by arriving on a punt!

The Boathouse is beautifully situated by the river and the ambience is excellent. We've been to this excellent restaurant several times and always had a great meal, but we've never been for Sunday lunch before. Now we've been, we will definitely go back - it was excellent. I had: - Leg of lamb (served pink), served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, roasted red onion, sweet potato purée. - Nutty Caramel, banana cake, yabba dabba doo ice cream Both delicious. Couldn't fault it. Thanks Boathouse!

We had a wonderful time here, the lunch is delicious, every dish presented so nice and yummy. The staff are friendly and attentive. We come on weekday so not crowded. The river scene outside the boathouse is very nice , believe it will look gorgeous in summertime where you can rent a boat for a ride before or after meal.

What a fantastic few hours. We hired a punt and went up and down the River Cherwell. It’s was lovely and relaxing. Fun to watch some people who were really struggling with getting to grip with how to work a punt. Some people managed it really well. If you bumped into someone they would help push you away so you can get on your way again. The birds on the river don’t seem bothered by all the boats! We got the pole stuck once but uses the oar to fetch in back. Luckily the poles float!

A wonder dining experience in Oxford. Very creative dishes, super friendly waiters & waitresses and cosy and atmospheric environment ❤️❤️ Came for dinner for 3 on a winter Saturday. Still recommend booking ahead. We booked 2 days ahead - the main restaurant was no longer available for dinner, but observatory was still available. Observatory is in a glass room, but it’s not cold at all, as there’s a radiator for each table. Sometimes we had to turn it off, as it got to a bit too warm. The food was amazing!! Each dish was presented in a visual appealing way and with a creative twist. For example, I was trying to find the coffee mousse among the three objects for a little bit. The taste is amazing! Would recommend adding the sides of broccoli and new potatoes, as the portion is not on a big side. The service was great. We were not sure which wine to take. The waitress was patient to explain the difference and brought some portion for us to taste. The price is fair. We each had a 3-course and a drink. The bill came out as £45 per person. Will surely visit again!

Pierre Victoire is a charming French bistro in the heart of Oxford serving classic French cuisine at a decent price. The restaurant features traditional French décor, fresh flowers, and wooden furniture, making it the perfect place to enjoy a romantic meal after exploring the city. Pierre Victoire offers great value for money with choices such as escargots, Moules frites, confit de canard on offer at an affordable price.
Very tasty French food with generous portions. All dishes have a lovely blend of flavours, and are well balanced. The desserts are quite average, so we opted to skip them the second time we visited. The service is minimal, and this is reflected in the lack of service charge. Although the price of the meal overall would be about the same for a restaurant of similar quality with service charge.

Heard it's one of the best French restaurant in town. We made a reservation for dinner and by the time we got there, the restaurant was fully packed. We were served with some bread and butter. They were really yummy. I ordered 2 courses meal, entree and main course both were vegetarian. The entree was roasted parsnips on pastry puff with balsamic dressing. It was nice and I had this three beans curry with couscous. The taste was just ok but the portion was big.

Pierre Victoire has been high on our list to try for some time. It’s high recommended to book ahead as they are regularly fully booked with returning patrons. I enjoyed my French Onion Soup with the steak frites. And highly recommend the glazed carrots. The portion sizes are filling and we didn’t have pudding on this visit.

Excellent service and food was very solid. We really enjoyed the atmosphere in here and the staff was exceptional - you could tell that they enjoy their work. For them alone I'd rate this place highly. That said, a similar level of care goes into the food they serve, with creative dashes of colour and flare in everything that was brought to our table.

We had a nice dinner! It was Sunday evening, we walked in with no reservation. They told us that they’re fully booked tonight however there is a spot for only an hour now. It actually worked perfectly for us! Everything was very tasty and served at the perfect time. Great service!

First time visitors and Pierre Victoire did not disappoint. Excellent food and service. Perfect for a romantic candle lit dinner. We would definitely be visiting again as there was so many choices on the menu that we want to try! The restaurant is very busy and it’s so nice to see a small business fully booked 😊

Went to Pierre Victoire for birthday celebration. The food was delicious and service was great. Prices are on point at about 30 quid for three course meal. Cheese souffle is the best I've had.

Really nice place. It's not inexpensive. The prices are quite high, at least for my budget. Fixed price- 28.50 for two course. 34.50 for three course. And the alcohol is expensive too. But if you want to have a high-end dinner in Oxford and you have the money to spend, this is a fantastic choice. Good location- Little Clarendon Street. Lots of seating space. Ground floor, outdoors, upper floors. Very well maintained. Helpful, friendly staff. The food is delicious. The portions are good, especially for the main course. I tried a lot of the dishes and everything tasted superb.

Went on a date night after hearing very good things about Pierre Victoire, and although the expectations were very high, they were exceeded! 👌 Best meal I had in a long time. No point in talking about the food, just come and give it a try, you'll be delighted! Very friendly but still professional service. A small mistake was made while serving our starters but it was promptly resolved and even offered an extra complementary starter as "compensation" when it was not even needed, which shows great focus on customer service. Had the sharing chocolate fondue for desert, which was great, but I thought the choice of fruits to go with it was not very happy, particularly the orange and the pineapple, but that's just a matter of personal opinion, I guess. The strawberries and marshmallows were amazing! I loved the contrast of fine dining food with the casual environment of a bistro, but it was a bit too loud. But maybe it was just a night with particularly noisy customers. Overall, it was a great experience and it just bacame my favourite restaurant in Oxford. Well done to the whole team! 👏

A very nice experience! The menu is very well priced at just shy of £35 pp for 3 courses. Well presented food with lush sauces. Seated at a halfway point up the stairs I think we missed out on the atmosphere of the restaurant. However, food was served very quickly, you weren’t left waiting around for long! Will definitely be back for more. There is raw red onion on a lot of the dishes so ensure you ask without if you’re not a fan. Would recommend the Duck Confit and Tiramisu. Both fabulous!! Will be back for more.

Great restaurant. Visiting Oxford for the weekend and this was our choice for Saturday evening. Extremely busy but service was exceptional. Our party had 4 different starters and 4 different mains. They were all excellent. The 'Fillet' main was great and such great value for money. We shared a couple cheeseboards for pudding. Really good wine list and some really good value red wine's. Outstanding evening Would visit again when in Oxford. Absolute delight.

Always a lovely ambience at the restaurant as ever, I’ve always enjoyed the food in previous visits and been many times before with 5 star reviews. This time to be totally honest, I felt the food was a touch too over seasoned. Steak was a bit salty and the soup was a bit too sweet. Would be nice if the calamari was cut a little thicker to taste the squid as that is the highlight of the dish. Staff were really nice, food was served efficiently too.

Kazbar is a Spanish Moroccan tapas restaurant with North African souk inspired decor. The inside of the restaurant is just as beautiful as it is on the outside, and the cocktails are amazing.
Stunning Moroccan style restaurant. Managed to get a seat for two people quickly with a choice of 3 tables. Ordered food & drink, the food came out very quick & it was beautiful! Many tapas options!

The food was okay. I was very excited to have pil-pil as it is one of my favorite dishes but the restaurant didn’t have any seafood and waited for sustainable supplies so I tried two new dishes. I needed to add quite a lot of salt to enhance the flavors. I ordered my food and they forgot my second dish, the waitress was really nice and gave me a drink on the house so I ordered a non-alcoholic mojito while I waited for my food. The mojito was warm and didn’t taste so good but I did appreciate the act 😊 I might give this place a second visit to see if they have pil-pil 😁

Delicious tapas, highly recommend the chorizo ring and the pork cheek! The menu recommends 2-3 dishes each, but we ended up with 4-5 each, which was about right for our appetites. The service was friendly, but they seemed understaffed with only 3 very busy waitresses for an almost full restaurant.

Cool place with excellent atmosphere and some level of access. So, you can get a chair in here with help (double doors need opening) and if you do then the food and atmosphere will make it worth it. So, first things first. Food: lots of amazing tapas available here for sharing and everything tastes great! You can have cocktails and quite a large selection of alcohol. The music is great. There are seats outside and inside and the side windows open up so that you've got breeze or sun. Atmosphere: this place has a bar type of feel even in the day. But it's relaxed. Not a place for dancing or anything and not sleepy. Food comes fast and music is relatively low but still bar style. A lot of manu chao and similar. Service: excellent all day all the time.

Food was ok. Nothing amazing or outstanding. Just good solid tapas. Drinks were good would highly recommend the golden margarita. Overall would have been so much better had service just been remotely better. Heard another table complain they had not received something they ordered. We had the same issue and had to find a service staff for an order that didn’t arrive. We also had a drink added to our bill which wasn’t ours that was removed. This place could be so much better if they upskill their service staff and had a manager just keep an eye out on the tables.

White Sangria was really good, I would definitely have it again. We went as a large group and there was some confusion when the meals came out. They should maybe consider numbering the items as it’s more likely that people will remember. Some of the food was really good, other bits were average.

Food standard is average to poor. Pork ribs was the worst, very dry. Give credit to the decor. Cannot book, defiantly not worth the wait if there is a queue.

Best culinary and dining out with friends experience we have had in Oxford. The food feels authentic and tastes divine ( it does add up though so watch out ) ! I really cannot sell it enough. The wait staff are so quick, polite and super super fun !! ( the 10% service charge really does not do them justice ). The atmosphere and ambience of the place is lovely as you can hear the chatter around you and the lighting is very deep. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated and doesn't look like other boring chain restaurants. We appreciated the boozy cocktails and especially loved the jugs of sangria !! Thank you so much to this restaurant for making each bit of the night so good. Also the place is wheelchair accessible and friendly .

The Perch is an English country inn with a large garden serving classic British pub fare. The customer Jannat Shah praised the vegan menu, while diner David Wiblin gave it high marks for its English cooking and efficient service.
What a surprise! My boyfriend booked the Sunday roast at The Perch during our small trip to Oxford from London, and, coming from a countryside lover, I straight felt home as soon as we got there. The restaurant is super cozy, warm, and welcoming, the whole staff was delivering great customer service and I loved to see so many families and dogs enjoining the afternoon. But the roast pork belly, wow.... Probably one of the best I ever had in my life! This place is definitely a must to go!

This cute thatched roof restaurant is so wonderful! From the moment you walk in you are greeted by kind workers and are shown the specials of the day, offered a drink menu if you have to wait any more than 5 minutes for a table. The waitstaff is very attentive and careful of you dietary restrictions and needs as well as allergens. There is a nice full vegan/vegetarian menu available as well. The ambiance is friendly, cozy and the grounds of the restaurant are beautiful. The food selection is small but everything that is available is top notch! Traditional choices as well as more gourmet dishes grace the menu with wonderful drinks to match! If you have the chance I would highly recommend you go there. The cherry on top is that it’s dog friendly even in the dining room. ❤️

This is a beautiful pub. We sat outside for fathers' day and highly recommend sitting in the garden if you can. The walking approach from the river is nothing short of magical, feeling like you're entering some form of fairy glen. We passed the outdoor cocktail bar (which we'll be coming back for) and we were seated near the pub, surrounded by flowers in one of several smaller areas within the garden, which made the space feel intimate despite the scale of the garden area. We were served by Christian on his last day, and the service was fantastic (in fairness all of the waiting staff seemed great). Christian was knowledgeable, and the service by all the staff was attentive, quick, friendly and ideal in all respects. The food and wine were excellent, and the kids all loved their meals. We had a fantastic time and cannot recommend the Perch highly enough. They are dog friendly but the garden is extensive so it's easy to find dog free tables if that's your thing.

We had our end of year Christmas party here. The staff was amazing and gave us great service. I got there earlier than my teammates, the staff checked our reservations and offered me a seat by the fireplace as I waited for everyone else. Our table was huge, so it was going to be lonely if I sat there alone. I got a pint and killed time next to the fireplace. When a few more people arrived, we moved to our table and ordered drinks, which were served on time. I enjoyed my starter, main and dessert. My starter was a chestnut salad, and I also got to try an absent teammate's duck breast. I loved them. I had turkey as my main, and it was well cooked and seasoned. The dark chocolate fondant dessert sealed the deal for me. After that I had a single espresso and headed home happy. Lovely culinary experience.

We had our wedding reception at The Perch in June 2022 and I cannot recommend it enough. It was an incredible venue and the food was fantastic - guests are still raving to us about the menu! We had the reception in the marquee and it was beautiful. The space was large enough to accommodate everyone but also felt intimate and cosy. But most of all, I cannot rate Emily and her team highly enough. They made the whole process an absolute dream - so helpful and efficient, and always on hand for questions. Emily clearly has a huge amount of expertise and we felt in such safe hands - it honestly felt as if we had hired a wedding planner - she was fantastic. The team put everything together so perfectly. I was absolutely blown away when I went into the marquee for the first time when everything had been set up. It was everything I had hoped for and more. I am so grateful that we chose The Perch and so if you are thinking about it then absolutely go for it - we had the best day.

Charming place with a big garden terrace. Amazing pork Sunday roast, it was juicy, tasty and so crispy on the outside. The greens well cooked and tasty. The roasted potatoes where delicious. The marmalade and ginger pudding with warm custard was really nice. A very good place for coming with the family or friends. Very very recommended if you are around.

The place is beautiful and isolated, so peaceful. There is a huge garden that joins the river and a delightful walk by the river. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Dogs are welcome too outside. We found this restaurant on Google as we were travelling through Oxford to the South East, no regrets at all and hope we can visit again some day soon. Thank you 😊

I can’t say enough good things about this place. It embodies the idyllic cozy British inn at its best. The menu is a compilation of delicious and homey classic pub food, but elevated and often with a twist (e.g. vegan fall vegetable Wellington rather than beef). I have visited The Perch a handful of times now and every single time we’ve experienced great service, enjoyed every single dish, and overall had a fantastic experience. Vegan options are featured on their own menu and are as good if not better than the non vegan ones. The vegan Wellington, Sunday roast, roast potato side, and chocolate cake have been some of my favorite dishes. I also love the apple cider with rum they offer in Winter. In our latest visit Gwladys was our waitress and she was truly fantastic. The place was full and she was handling a huge group of about 20 people and yet still managed to not only pay attention to us but to provide top notch service. If you try one restaurant while in Oxford, this should be it.

Beautiful pub, always been my long standing favourite pub for over 10 years. This place just gets better in time. They made amazing use of their gigantic garden, summer time is great with outside bar and easy access to the beautiful port meadow/ river; they also built a beautiful conservatory for dining in. Just having a cosy mulled cider by the fire is always pleasant. The quality and presentation of the food is always high quality and delightful every time we dine here. Can't really fault the place apart from needing to remember to pre book a table. Customer service is very welcoming and friendly too. I look forward to going back again

Love going to the Perch. An easy 20-minute walk from Oxford. Excellent food and service. They expanded the seating area and the patio & gardens. Still had the quaint and cozy old section. Very nice. Had a wonderful Sunday roast. Want to try the garden on summer afternoon. Will go again.

Absolutely gorgini. I can imagine during the summer that the place is perfect for mates. Definitely attracts a trendy crowd too. The food was delightful. Would recommend the pig cheeks! Super tasty

Absolutely fantastic lunch here with my friends today! Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, with all that somehow only outdone by the service provided to us by Drew! We'll be leaving a Trip Advisor review as well 👍

A lovely Saturday lunch. I was glad to see their own beer on tap - although I didn't go for it on the occasion as I fancied the Cotswold pale which I would recommend. I loved the choice of dishes on the menu; loads of interesting options. I went for the mushroom soup which was well seasoned and full of flavour. I had pig cheeks for my main which came with a celeriac purée. I enjoyed it although I felt that considering it was braised in sherry, I couldn't taste that particular flavour and the pig cheeks themselves were just a little dry. However, I think my 5 stars is because I tried everyone else's dishes and they were all delicious! We were also well looked after from start to finish - we had a baby and a toddler who were both fussed over by the staff. It is a little pricey but definitely worth the money. I didn't bring my dog with me on this occasion but it's great to know that they are dog friendly for a second visit as it's well situated for some good walks!

Pompette is a charming French restaurant with a great menu that will tantalize your taste buds. Whether you're dining in the wine bar where you can enjoy cured meats and cheese paired with European wines, or at the more formal dining room, Pascal's maximum favor, minimum waste ethos is reflected throughout the menu.
Really lovely place with great food. It absolutely worth going off the motorway for dinner there. Mussels were a good quality and nicely done - my fav👌🏻Good selection of vines and dissent prices.

Very, very decent French cuisine. Highly recommend the spatzle (sorry no photos).

A posh-looking place that's great for more formal events and special nights out. I had the spatchcocked quail for my appetizer (highly recommend!), sirloin for my main (somehow, I wasn't a fan of the juice covering the steak, but otherwise great), and burnt basque cheesecake (a bit dense and not sweet enough for me, but that's just personal preference). The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, although I should warn that the kitchen is closed from 14:30 until later in the evening, which I was not aware of when I walked in at 14:20. I loved the decor and atmosphere. I'd love to go back and try some of their other dishes.

Enjoyed a gorgeous Onglet steak here at the weekend which was cooked to perfection. Really lovely team and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend it. They also do delicious cocktails if you're just popping in for a drink

Was alright. Bit pushy with the alcohol menu, and I definitely don't recommend coming in without a reservation, your orders will be coming later. Food was nice, I recommend the fish soup! It may not look much on the photos but the taste is seriously good. The menu is seasonal too, so there's changes from photos you find here. That said, the place is too pricey for me so I doubt I'll be visiting again.

Excellent service, wonderful atmosphere and good food. Highly recommend, especially the caramel crepe. We loved the decor. They have a lovely large room upstairs that you can book for a large group.

Pretty good! Had the set menu for lunch. Smoked trout and spud salad could only have been improved by having the spuds out of the fridge a bit sooner. Tough to do though I guess. All reasonable and very welcoming. Parking is available which is a boon.

We visited again yesterday evening for our anniversary and as always the experience was exceptional. The cookery is sublime, the attention to detail and atmosphere always perfect. We have just returned from a visit to stay with family in Auvergne so we were feeling a little sad to be back in rainy Wiltshire, so thank you for giving us our local taste of home from home. We also wanted to mention Joe who was a complete delight - so natural, charming, witty and clearly loves what he does. Good hospitality is a real art and rare to find. Such a lovely evening so thank you and we look forward to returning again soon

Had a quick set lunch with wine on Sunday. The service was attentive and impeccable throughout. We were unsure about which wine to pair with our food and we were allowed to have a taste. The lamb sweetbread and boudin noir were excellent and my dining partner enjoyed her sirloin with duck fat potato. And the interior decor is just classy.

Duck confit was over seasoned and too salty to eat. Left over half of it. Not an enjoyable eating experience. Dessert was fine, strawberries with mint a nice touch. I made it clear to two wait staff that I didn't enjoy the main and all I got was a verbal apology. No money off bill, no drink on the house. No formal apology from the manager. Really poor customer service. Do yourself a favour and go to Pierre Victoire down the road near Jericho for proper French food at a much more reasonable price. I've been there 3 times and won't be paying Pompette another visit. Such a shame as I was actually looking into private dining options for my wedding and Pompette blew their chance tonight.

Amazing French restaurant. The food was great and the portions were generous. All the dishes we tried were excellent! Friendly and welcoming staff. The Prixe Fixe menu is really worth it.

I'm not sure which restaurant the negative reviewer below went too but I have been twice in recent weeks for lunch and dinner and I have to say that the food and service were impeccable. We were on a much needed night out following a busy period at work and this was the perfect place to indulge and experience quality French cooking. The highlight for me were the croquettes on the nibbles menu which were delicious. The wine knowledge from our waitress was also first class and added to the experience. Highly recommended local restaurant.

Exceptional food that blends classical and modern flavours. Everything from the baguette to the choux buns were delicious. The rabbit leg with beans was especially tasty, and my partner commented on how great the panisses were. Service was generally excellent, with our first waiter being especially attentive and pleasant. There was a slight hiccup with another waiter, who confused our lactose-free/oat hot chocolate order for a dairy hot chocolate, but this was promptly remedied when we brought it to their attention. Overall, an absolutely delicious dining experience in very pleasant surroundings.

Enjoyable meal on a cold Saturday lunchtime. We had fish and it was all good, plus a bottle of Picpoul, 2 deserts and coffees. Bill was £200 for 4, quite pricey but food was nicely cooked and service efficient and quite friendly. Comfortable seating and welcoming room, only unfortunately a very noisy baby on the next door table made conversation difficult for a while. There's also a set lunch menu during the week. We would return.

had a really lovely dining experience at pompette for my friend's birthday! we ordered trout, onglet and sirloins which were cooked to perfection and surprisingly super filling. abhi was our main server and was very kind and attentive. susie also gave some great wine recommendations tailored to our tastes. they went the extra mile and made my friend's night feel very special. all around wonderful evening! would definitely return 😊

Food was great but it’s a bit too much for us. Sundays they serve only from set menu so you can order 3 or 2-course as well as some snacks/small bites. I’m amazed of how much selection they have for drinks. For food, I loved the St. Austell mussels starter, the mains were portioned good as well and cooked tender, I had the Chicken with pomme puree peas and bacon. For desserts I had the lemon polenta cake which I loved but was so full too bad I can’t finish it. Cozy ambiance and welcoming staff. For me, food is on 8/10 but overall experience was 10/10.
