County Cork

County Cork covers much of Ireland’s southwest. Its capital, Cork, is known for St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, a neo-Gothic structure with tall spires and stained-glass windows. Across the River Lee is the castle-like Cork City Gaol, built in the 19th century. Northwest of Cork is the 15th-century Blarney Castle, home to the Blarney Stone, which is said to give the “gift of the gab”, or eloquence, to those who kiss it.

Nano Nagle Place

Mentioned on
Heritage museum
Museums
The Nano Nagle Place heritage museum tells the story of an 18th-century nun who fought to educate the poor and is now preserved as a tranquil oasis of beauty. The museum features exhibits on the nun's life and work, as well as beautiful gardens. It is perfect for a relaxing afternoon or evening out.
We really enjoyed our visit to this gem. Really friendly, informative and helpful staff. A wonderful museum area which tells the story of the beginnings of school education in Cork city. Peaceful gardens and a great coffee shop. Amazing value. Really worth a visit!

Beautiful place to visit in Cork City! Full of history and gorgeous nature - make sure to spend time in the gardens.
Gurgel Segrillo — Google review
Nano Nagle devoted herself to religion and helped and educated the poor, Catholic girls and boys more than 200 years ago when the Penal Law was employed. Her work and the Presentation Sisters deserved more attention and respect.
Liang-Kai Chu — Google review
Our first visit to Cork. This was the highlight of our stay. The museum is lovely. The restaurant was bonus (with excellent food & wine). Agnes, the "Ambassador" for the museum, would be my new best friend if I ever moved to your beautiful city! Her passion for Nano, the incredible "inside tour" and token gift she gave me, made a memory I will never forget. I knew nothing about the amazing Nano Nagle before visiting, but I know hold her dear to my heart and even have a print of her in my office. Thank you for putting together such a beautiful place (architecturally, it is a great site to visit in of itself). The other staff were also very helpful and friendly. 5 star visit!
Annely Carver — Google review
The friendliest museum I have ever been to. I was greeted by ambassador Agnes, who lives and breathes the heritage of Nano Nagle and the museum. Be inspired by the story of Nano Nagle, that provided education for Catholic children in a time where it was forbidden. And enjoy the lovely peaceful garden in the middle of the city. Just what I needed on a Sunday morning.

Cannot believe it has taken me so long to visit this fantastic oasis of calm in my native city. Immaculately preserved and presented buildings, cemetery and gardens. Museum, bookshop, café and restaurant on site. Entrance is free of charge. Well worth a visit as it is only a short walk from St. Finbarre's cathedral. Parking extremely limited....so leave the car at home.

Wonderful place! Beautiful gardens and fascinating history!

Pleasant surprise stumbling across this peaceful spot in the middle of Cork city. We were greeted by a very friendly and informative worker. Didn’t take the paid tour, but enjoyed just walking around the grounds. Will have to return to try the little restaurant someday. Few people just relaxing and talking, and a couple others that looked like they were also there for the first time. I’m not sure I’d say it’s a must do if visiting Cork, but if you are here for an extended period of time, definitely check it out.

Nano Nagle Place is a unique complex in the heart of Cork city. The place has a museum, heritage rooms, gardens, the Good Day Deli, both a design and gift shop, and a Cork focused book shop in the museum. The gorgeous regenerated convent buildings are home to many educational charities. I advise anyone who hasn't been there to go there. Visiting this place is a magical experience as it retains a balance of cultural history and a modern green walkway.
Tashdid Sadat Ali — Google review
A beautiful hub of knowledge complete with a museum and gift store with quaint and cute little handcrafted and artisan things. Has a beautiful garden tea shop/cafe. Even if you don’t go to the museum, this is still worth a visit because of the natural gardens and the crocheted flower garden. A work of art!
Vatsal Mishra — Google review
We visited on Friday and had a wonderful guided tour with Agnes. I would highly recommend doing the tour as you learn so much more and get the human side of the stories. Agnes was a great guide, she had a really soothing cork lilt. It almost felt like asmr sitting in the sun hearing her tell the story of Nano Nagle. The gift shop and book shop are fabulous, filled with jewellery, homewares from Irish designers. Overall definitely worth a visit and they have lifts on site so great accessibility
Nichola Ó Gruagáin — Google review
Nano Nagle was a wonderful treasure we happened upon. Agnes and Tatiana were lovely to chat with and the museum was absolutely beautiful! Definitely recommend a visit during your stay in Cork!

Spike Island

Mentioned on
Island
Nature & Parks
Spike Island is a small island in Cork Harbour, historically significant for its role as a monastic settlement and later as a prison. The island is also home to the 200-year-old Fort Mitchel, which served as an important prison holding over 2300 prisoners during the Irish War of Independence and from 1984 to 2004. Today, visitors can enjoy a guided walking tour of the former prison buildings before exploring on their own.
October 2022: we ended up going to Spike Island on the recommendation from our BnB host. We had a great time on the ferry over, and the tour was informative without being overdone. The island itself has lots of information on placards, and if you’re not into going into the prison there’s lots of lovely walks outside. We found lots of berry bushes and little goats. Be sure to dress for the weather; we started the day with sun and a bit of wind, and throughout the day the wind picked up and we ended up in a cold rainstorm. Since this was at the end of tourism season, we made sure to pack a small picnic as the tour lasts an entire day and the small café on the island was closed.
Mz Thang — Google review
Good place to spend 3 hours of time. It started with a 10 minutes boat ride from Cobh to Spike Island. There will be a free guided tour for 40 minutes in which they will explain why this fort was built and how it was used during British and Irish. After the short introduction we have a option to take a trail outside the prison which will take 30 minutes max and then rest of the time you can spend inside seeing the history of the prison. You can see different types of guns used for defense, different weapons and dresses used by military people. Also you can experience the dark room which was used a punishment cell during British era and modern prison also. Overall it is good place to visit once and learn about the history.
Manoj Kumar S — Google review
Loved this tour. Amazing views of Cobh on the way out to and back from Spike Island. Our tour guide was great, gave us lots of interesting information about the area and Spike Island itself. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cobh. You'll be on the Island for just over 3 hours which I felt was a bit too long. But still a well-deserved 4 stars.
Gavin Brophy — Google review
Good mixed history of the 1800 fort and then the 1980s prison. Overall good walk around the fort and excellent views of Cork. A worthwhile visit
Derek Kinsella — Google review
Great tour of a very interesting place. Could easily have spent another couple of hours at the various exhibits especially the independence display. Our guide John G was very knowledgeable and friendly and was more than happy to answer any questions or to him. Nice boat journey between Cobh and the island too.

Fabulous place to visit, Fascinating history throughout the ages. Our guide Anna was excellent! Delighted we decided to come here . Walks around the island are gorgeous with wonderful 360 degrees views.
Margot Kearney — Google review
A place I would highly recommend visiting. Full of History, the tour we had allowed for 3hrs on spike island however that time flies and 3 hours just doesn't seem long enough , we stayed for a bit of a guided tour to get some of the history of the place.
Richard — Google review
The Island is picturesque and has a rich history. We visited with our 1 year old baby and found the facilities there fantastic. It’s a must see place in cork.
Ankur Bansal — Google review
Very interesting place with an interesting atmosphere. Best to visit when not too windy and ideally not raining. The tour takes ~3h, and it's enough time to see almost everything. Restaurant is a bit expensive (as you may expect) and food could be much better for the price (better than nothing) Overall, interesting place and would recommend to visit.
Ev Ma — Google review
Spike Island was an amazing piece of history. We had the best guide call Rob from spike island tours. He was knowledgeable and it was very informative. It was a lovely experience going over on the boat, then being able to walk freely around the island.
Anthia Taylor — Google review
Great place to visit. Full of history. I would advise following along with the walking tour. Our guide was Karl, he was very well versed in the history of the island and had a very pleasant demeanor which is great to see from a guide. The walking tour is about an hour which leaves a further two hours to explore on your own as well. The time flies which is always a good sign.
Warren Reilly — Google review
Fascinating place absolutely packed with history. The boat ride over only takes around 10-15 mins. It was a very smooth journey on the day we went. The island has literally hundreds of years of history all built on top of each other. When you get off the boat the guide gives you some options including to stay with him and walk up to the gates with a guided tour by him on some of the history. 100% do this! It only takes about half an hour and is a great introduction. Some people rushed on in and missed all of it.... there is a one way system around the fort which works well in guiding you where to go next. Make sure to walk around the coastal paths of the island too. It doesn’t take long and the views are incredible out into the bay where Titanic was once moored. There is a small gift shop too upon exciting the fort. A great experience and one of my favourites on our trip to Cobh. Amazing value for the price!

Ballycotton Cliff Walk

Mentioned on
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Walking Areas
The Ballycotton Cliff Walk is a stunning path with fantastic views of the ocean. It is perfect for a walk or run, and is also a great place to take photos and enjoy the fresh air. The path is well maintained, and it is easy to follow.
We walked all along the cliffs and along the bird trail , saw a few seals and amazing coves and views along the way. The path is easy to follow and there is parking about 250m from where trail starts. It is quite safe , path is stable and warning signs where you should not venture to close to the edge. It's an easy walk , pretty flat and we walked for an hour and had not reached the end. We stopped for quite a few photo stops. We saw many walkers including young children so it is quite safe and can be a family outing
Andre Hackart — Google review
Gorgeous walk. Trail is unpaved and muddy, so be sure to come prepared with good solid shoes. Walk is a good length too, beautiful scenery but a touch windy
Stephane Petiet — Google review
Beautiful walk along the ocean. The view and scenery are just spectacular. Highly recommend! I've been there many times and still enjoy each walk I take. You can walk a long way, if you wanted to.
Antonio Tech — Google review
Nice and easy walk for all. Nothing too fancy but worth the trip. Worth picking a nice day so the ground isn't too wet. Good set up at the start with plenty of parking. There are some nice places to stop and sit if needed and areas where you can pop down to the beach area and have a picnic.
Omer — Google review
Breathtaking views! The path was a bit muddy but not treacherous or unsafe. Wear appropriate shoes and you’ll not regret the drive!
Travis Blevins — Google review
Did the entire walk from Ballycotton to Ballyandreen. It’s just amazing and so scenic. Really beautiful. But not recommended to do it on a rainy or even wet day because the mud is heavy and can be dangerous. I’d recommend to always wear appropriate shoes to reduce risk of getting hurt.
Ariana — Google review
This was a great hike! Because we had to wait for lost luggage from Air France (not a fan!) We did the hike the day after it was sunny. Even with the rain, the hike was beautiful! Wear comfortable hiking shoes (weather proof/goretex if it's raining). The views were all amazing and you should try to make it to the stranded shipwreck!
David Suarez — Google review
Haven't completed the whole walk yet but from what I have done I can say it is nothing short of amazing. Also, on my travels I stumbled upon my new favourite beach in Ireland, which I never expected to happen as I initially thought it was just cliffs. The beach here is beautiful and the locals were super friendly. Could not recommend this place more 💚
Kev Rock — Google review
.. Just parked in the car park and had a look with my young kids.. Didn't do the walk.. Fantastic views
Brendan Maguire — Google review
From a visually breathtaking experience, I couldn't find it more picturesque. The foot path could use a bit more rocks to help with the mud as it can be quite muddy and slippery.
Sean Sebring — Google review
A stunning trip! Also suitable for children. A stunning route along the sea, on the cliff. Lots of blooms all around. We took the circular blue route and went down through the village, it was long and not so comfortable. It is better to return on the same route on the cliff. Don't miss going down to the beach, it's fun to go there with the kids too.
Jenya Gashinov — Google review
This cliff walk offers great views and it has 4-5 different circuits to choose with for a walk based on the distances. It has seats on its way at different intervals for a break if needed. The walk way is slippery so a good gripped and comfortable boots is a must. This cliff walk is good one for kids and with pets but with extreme caution. The cliff walk has car parks in 3 different places. It doesn’t have a public toilet. The view of light house and the sea is fantastic. There is a beach on its way to have a nice break. The sunrise and sunset views are amazing here. It’s a great place with tables on it’s entrance for a short break and a snack/coffee. It never fails to amaze us in our every trip.
Boopathy Rathinavelu — Google review
Went during weekday, so there wasn't much crowd. 1) There is one parking which is near to the entrance but only few cars can be parked there. Another car park about 150 meters from the entrance. We can park there also. No parking fee 2) There are no restroom. 3) The entire walk down the cliff is easy and you can reach the end in 40 minutes and there will be small beach where you can swim. 4) You can't use strollers or wheel chair. 5) There are few restaurants in the town to get the food. 6) There were many kids who were walking so it is okay for kids also. 7) They have placed many chairs where we can sit and enjoy the view.
Manoj Kumar S — Google review
Absolutely loved it. Not over visited by tourists. No busses. Small parking lot.
Paul Baughman — Google review
Loved visiting the cliffs and the beach. Met a resident at the beginning of our walk. He was very friendly and provided some helpful tips and interesting information on the area. The walk can be as long as you want it to be. We did not have the time or the stamina to do the full walk, but enjoyed the walk.

Camden Fort Meagher

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Camden Fort Meagher is an ancient coastal artillery fort in Ireland which played a key role in defending the country and its shipping against attack. The fort is now a popular tourist destination, with visitors able to explore its deserted ramparts and craggy stone walls.
This is a fantastic place to visit and only 20% is open wait till it becomes fully open. So much history and much more to see. It goes 4 stories underground

Camden Fort is a good place to go if you have a couple of hours to spare. They have done great work to get it to the standard that it is.
Steve Butcher — Google review
Camden Fort unfortunately has been closed last year and this year due to the pandemic, but the views from this height and this direction are amazing. Would recommend to come up for the views alone. The bus stops directly at the Fort and if you plan to walk up, it's quite hilly.
Anne Doran — Google review
Small but as enough to strecth the legs. Amazing views over Cobh and Spike island. You can just seat there and enjoy the views, lots if boats around and also the ferries

Camden and Crosshaven are lovely places around Cork. It would be nice to spend a day if it's sunny. I wouldn't mind going to this place over and over again.
Soumya Prakash Rout — Google review
Coastal fort originally built back on 1550. It offers a great view of the ocean and of Cork harbour, Europe's largest natural harbour. The fort is maintained by a group of volunteers and the fort hosts various historical shows and events.

What an adventure of a day!! Lovely tea rooms and a beautiful location overlooking Cork Harbour and steeped in History! Also the film location for RTEs “ Hell Week “

Its has some great views but overall as a Fort structure, I think nearby Blarney or Charles fort (kinsale) have more to offer. The volunteer guides are the best though and make the experience memorable.

You can get a real feel of a fortress here, dark, impenetrable, mysterious caverns and worm like tunnels. You could imagine Tyrion and John Snow staring at the WALL. Very well maintained and well worth a visit. €5 entry. Or you can join a tour.

Fitzgerald Park is a beautiful green space in the middle of Cork that has been enjoyed by locals for over 100 years. The park is 18 acres and features a variety of statues, gardens, and pathways. It's perfect for a relaxing walk or to visit the Cork Museum. Kids love the playground, and adults love its variety of sculptures.
A beautifully kept public park. Neat, tidy and home to Cork public museum. An 18 acre, large city centre attraction, you should definitely pay this park a visit. If you are looking for a peaceful stroll by the river, a wild session in an ultra modern playground, a relaxing picnic or a game of football with the kids, this is the place for you. Gorgeous flowers and trees, very interesting structures and monuments and statues. A seat by the stunning river Lee. A coffee shop and bakery. Need I say any more???

The park is big and the scenery is nice. With a lot of benches. There is also a museum. It's free. The view of crossing the bridge is very good.

Lovely park, especially for kids. It has a big playground area for kids. There's a rose garden and a variety of trees. There is also plenty of grass space for anyone to play on or use. Cute fountain with benches to sit on around it. There are toilets available, as well as a small cafe. Some weekends there is an ice-cream truck that comes around.

Fitzgerald 's Park plays a vital role for all kids growing up in Cork. With a large play area for the toddlers to incredible scenery for the professional and aspiring photographers, if offers something for everyone. In the summer, the outside theatre stage fills the air with excitement and art. The large fountain is a meeting place for everyone to relax and enjoy the wild birds.
Ciaran — Google review
We love this park! Live outside of Cork and will sometimes ride in to enjoy it. It is the perfect green space for Cork city. Plenty of flat green area with paved sidewalks to ride bikes or scooters. Nothing too huge in terms of fields for sports but there is enough for a game of frisbee or soccer. There’s a great playground as well as a museum and some statues on premises. I wouldn’t say it is a “must see” of Cork, but if you are in town for a few days, would check it out especially on a nice sunny day.
Kevin McCabe — Google review
The park was on our way from Cork City Gaol Museum to University College Cork. We didn’t know that the park was famous. The park is not big enough since it is in a residential area. Its uniqueness is its existence on the brink of the river.
Nyein Nyein Thant Aung — Google review
I love the park! It's a good walk to get to it, and you have options for paths by the bandstand, past the kids playground, or by the river and rose garden. They have a great little cafe on site, plus the Governor's Pavilion has exhibits, there's plenty of concerts and other events, and you can walk over to the Shakey Bridge (not it's real name) to see if how much bounce it has! A great place to while away a sunny day, and if you're lucky, the ice cream truck is outside the fence for a scoop or two!

Great city park for kids near the University College Cork. We did not explore the rest of the park’s offering since our 4 yr old was anchored at the playground. Only reason for four and not five stars was an out of order bathroom. About a 1 mile walk from the Imperial Hotel in downtown.

Sage Restaurant in Midleton, County Cork, is run by talented chef Kevin Aherne and offers a variety of menus throughout the week. One highlight is the renowned 12-mile menu, featuring ingredients sourced within a 12-mile radius of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is housed in a beautiful stone building on the main street, with modern decor in shades of sage and cream. With wooden floors and high-backed leather chairs, it provides a stylish yet comfortable dining experience.
Food and service was second to none. The atmosphere and artwork on the walls were superb. Highly recommend the John Dory for mains and the Smoked Whisky ice cream sandwich for dessert.
Barry Higgins — Google review
Great atmosphere and friendly servers. Tried to walk in on a random weekday in Jan but no tables available they said. But we looked online and were able to make a quick booking for an hour later haha. The starters we had were very yummy: the smoked pork croquettes were all tender pork inside and deliciously crunchy & the soft egg mushroom dish was so tasty that we lapped up all the sauce. The mains were a little disappointing for us though cause they were both not super flavorful and the main flavor was just oily butter: we got the ricotta gnocchi and fish over lentils. The fish was really fresh and not overcooked, so without the buttery/oily lentils would have been a delicious dish. Though that's just our taste, you might like things swimming in butter or oil. Their famous Middleton brick was just ok as well. The marshmallow top was nice and fluffy but the chocolate and caramel sauce was way too sweet, so it was hard to finish. Overall I would be careful what I choose from the menu since it's a hit or miss.
Tiffany Vu — Google review
Food was quality, chicken for starters was cold not sure if that was intentionally but was tasty. Steak was cooked they way I wanted. Midleton brick desert was also good.Staff were friendly and Service was quick .

Such an absolutely fantastic place to eat, 15 of us had a birthday dinner, 15 different starters, 15 different mains, wine and beer flowing and all magically appearing at the right time. It was like watching a perfect ballet. The food was excellent, all of us were raving about how each plate was better than the next. A perfect evening, thanks to Raul, Natalia, Kevin and the staff for making a great evening awesome.

I've been wanting to go here for some time and it didn't disappoint, we had a wonderful dinner. I believe the interior has been renovated recently and the decor is casual, but the food absolutely is not, the presentation is perfect, the flavours incredible, the variety and quality of ingredients is outstanding. There's also an extensive menu or delicious cocktails. The staff are wonderful. After the meal we visited the small shop just outside which has all sorts of interesting food and ingredients. Can't wait to go back!

Had a lovely meal there last night with my partner. First off the service was great, they couldn't have been nicer, very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. We loved every bite. Looking forward to going back.

The pork nuggets for starters were great, beef cheek was yummy too. Hake kiev as a dish overall was very dry especially after the first few bites and towards the end was just too much “fried” texture, middleton brick dessert was very sweet for me. overall a good experience. We had early dinner so everything was quick :).
Wendikaa Lim — Google review
Enjoyed the food, comfortable cozy atmosphere, bar offerings, and friendly service. Cons: only 2 beers on draft. They were not common (lager and an Irish pale ale) but if you don’t like either then that’s it. Limited vegetarian options. Just one entree and a few sides. We could not place multiple orders of food. We just wanted to order some starters first with drinks, then order entrees when we were ready, but we were told we could not. Strange. Other than those, a pleasant experience with good food.
Kevin McCabe — Google review
I lo e the place. The drinks were very good and I ate the best ceaser salad in my life. I highly recommend the restaurant. The price is fair enough. The only concern I would like to share, I found the place very warm and sometimes I felt without air because of the temperature.
Carolina Alves Marques — Google review
Been a while since I visited Sage and was delighted that food was as outstanding as I remember. Dumplings to start were delicious. Had a flat bread and the best fries I've ever had in my life for main. Midleton brick was amazing to finish, but I missed that the legendary raspberry white choc cheesecake is off the menu.

Cocktail bar
Cask is a new bar located in the Victorian Quarter of Cork. It has an interesting cocktail menu and is generally more expensive than other bars in town, making it a good choice for visitors on a budget. If things get awkward, the courtyard can provide a lovely setting for a date night. There is live music too so you could have your date dancing at the end of the night.
Place is gorgeous, staff are so friendly, cocktails are fab, the food is so tasty, sharing options mainly, the outdoor seating is gorgeous with a lovely water feature at the back. Great atmosphere. Will be returning.
Kevin O Connor — Google review
It’s an amazing cocktail bar. Highly recommended & loved by the locals, and I can really see why. It was fully booked when we arrive, and it’s a sitting only restaurant/bar no standing, so we couldn’t get in. So if you like to visit do make a reservation. When we visit the second time, the door man was nice enough to let us have a drink at the entrance until a table became available. All the waiting was totally worth it, one of the best cocktail bar I’ve visited. The bar tender can make anything you just name it. We had like at least 4 p.p. The music & atmosphere was great, and even the nibbles were super tasty. Highly recommend Guacamole & Olives. 😋 Would def visit again.

This place was amazing and worth every cent. Everything we got was phenomenal from the beautiful food and delicious Cocktails. It's easy to see why it's so popular and booking in essential. The place was crazy busy and the staff must be well use to it, the service wasn't hindered one bit. I will definitely call back when I'm in Cork again. The location is great right in the city. I would have loved to stay longer but we had a show to attend.

Everything about Cask was absolutely lovely besides the beef dish that had very little meat and was mostly fat and gristle which is why I couldn't give it the full 5 stars. The ambiance is a 5 star so it's a great place to take a date. The tapas are high quality but I have had better for lower prices locally.
Luke Ratterman — Google review
Amazing place for seasonal Irish-style tapas and inventive cocktails. The outdoor seating has a wonderful ambiance, nestled between two buildings with a waterfall at the back. All the food is made to order, portioned generously, cooked perfectly and is flavored really well.

Lovely food/cocktails and great service. But they won't allow bill to be split more than 2 ways. Very difficult for our group of 5 especially as most people now pay by card. Would discourage me from going with a group again.

Cask is definitely our favourite spot for both food and cocktails in Cork. The staff are always so friendly. Love their selection of cocktails and their food is always amazing!! I would recommend booking here in advance.

Despite turning up without a booking, I was seated immediately, but was then left to wait for a good 20 minutes or so before I caught a staff members attention, and was able to order. I ordered a drink and some chips. Again I had quite a lengthy wait for them to arrive, but both were very enjoyable when they did eventually turn up. Cask is a gorgeous restaurant/bar and the staff are lovely, but I had to mark them down because of the amount of time I had to wait. I completely understand that they were super busy, but I did feel that I was somewhat overlooked as a solo customer.

I recently visited the restaurant, and it was truly exceptional. The wine selection was outstanding, the food was delicious, the drinks were fantastic, and the ambience was perfect. From start to finish, it was a memorable experience. Highly recommended! I just think they need more staff. The staff there were quite busy.

I can't put into words how delighted I am to have such a fantastic cocktails spot in Cork. Their cocktail menu that changes seasonally is an absolute treat and I am always excited to try out the new menu whenever I'm in there. You can tell the people behind the bar love what they do and are engaged in creating interesting and unique cocktails with love and passion. The atmosphere and space is also out of this world with a running waterfall, smooth music and plenty of outside seating. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Thank you for doing the best in Europe right on our doorstep Cask!

What an absolute gem! This is absolutely a must-stop location for any cocktail enthusiasts or those interested in trying creative drinks inspired by local agriculture. We originally stopped in, hoping to order a couple of drinks before moving on to another cocktail spot so that we were able to try out both places during our only night in Cork. After our first sips, we changed our plan and settled in at Cask. The flavors in the drinks were incredibly unique, like nothing we'd ever had before. During our visit, we ended up working through the entire menu, and were pleasantly surprised by a couple of drinks that didn't sound quite as exciting on paper. Throughout our tasting journey, we were really appreciative of the staff checking to make sure we would like some of the ingredients/spirits before fully ordering a drink (e.g., Poitín). We also had some great chats with Dan about the journeys of the bar and the cocktail scene in Ireland broadly. If you find yourself in Cork, do yourself a favor and stop by for a drink.

Be sure to reserve a table ahead of time! Delicious selection of seasonal cocktails and small plates to share, along with a full bar and draught beers. The service was exceptional.

We just had to go back! The cocktails were unique and professionally crafted. The food was delicious. We went back for a late snack of the chicken wings - delightfully fried with yummy dipping sauces. The service was kind, approachable and most importantly knowledgeable. They make sure to match the cocktail with your taste and preferences. A beautiful setting with a natural waterfall on the terrace. The atmosphere can’t be beat ! A total gem in the heart of Cork.

Visiting Corck for the first time for business and stayed in the Isaac's hotel. The next door fancy restaurant was closed so headed out here. What a goid decision it was!! Lovely atmosphere and sat outside, staff were extremely professional even tho it was super busy they paid attention to everyone and service was top notch. Asked for a recommendation from a waiter and got The Crab and Prawn Pill Pill, chips and a Mocktail (left the design to the bar master to come up with something as a surprise) and I have not enjoyed a meal like this in awhile!! Perfect combo of buttery seafood and s lovely mocktail to refresh and elevate the taste. Thank you!!

Seafood restaurant
The seafood restaurant Goldie is known for its fresh fish dishes, and it changes its menu depending on the availability of fresh seafood. The restaurant is located in a bustling part of the city, and it often serves up some of the best salmon, halibut, and oysters in town.
Fabulous, delicious, welcoming; I could go on and on but am just not that eloquent. This place provided us with one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Such new takes on everything, ingredients put together in such unique and yummy ways. Each complex taste is delicious on its own, and stunning when out all together. But what really steals the show here, and their other 4 restaurants, is the staff. The welcome, the service, the knowledge, and the smiles. Obviously they know how to hire and keep good people. Kelly - thanks for finding us a spot as walk ins, you are a doll with contagious positive energy! Eva-your friendliness, knowledge, joy enhanced our dining experience. It was a pleasure to interact with any of the staff, keep up the great work. You have something quite special here!

Had an amazing meal at Goldies. The service was great, really attentive, friendly, explaining everything. The food was also delicious. I highly recommend visiting if you're in Cork! Reasonably priced as well.

Really enjoyed our dinner at Goldie’s. Everything we tried was delicious, although special mention for the turbot which was perfectly cooked and top notch. The staff was great too, friendly and well-informed about the dishes. Would definitely go back the next time we’re in Cork!

Absolutely superb food and service from start to finish. Even better than last time we were here. Wife is pregnant and the chef had clearly marked out on the menu ahead of time the small few things she couldn't have. It's the small things that make the difference. Great staff and food thank you Team Goldie

Despite an abundance of amazing seafood in Cork, it's difficult to find something that isn't battered, smoked or "chowdered". Thankfully that's not the case here. This is good seafood with invention and flair. We had a late sitting, so there were quite a few items not available on the menu (as it should be for fresh fish). Everything we tried was excellent. The cured cod pastrami was a personal favourite and the "snacks" were excellent. Far superior to anything I've eaten for quite some time. The main course, Haddock (replacing Hake) with peppercorn sauce, was nice but overshadowed by what came before. Desserts were amazing. Hopefully, we'll get an opportunity to come back here in the not too distant future for an early sitting and work our way through the rest of the menu.

Delicious food, warm welcoming and friendly staff with good service. You won’t be disappointed checking it out this place in particular their dishes are super tasty. Among the courses, the main dish was fantastic!👌🏻😋 The dessert was a little bit disappointing but still tasty!

Visited for the second time and food was simply amazing. Had the monkfish with panaeng curry which was delicately executed without sacrificing spice and flavour. Saltfish croquettes were so good I ordered another plate. They don't do cocktails unfortunately and as I have a sensitivity to wines/beers due to high histamine levels in these category of drinks (my asthma is triggered and I break out in hives), there isn't anything on the menu I was comfortable ordering. However I had ordered a drink that was recommended to me. It didn't do very well with me as I started feeling short of breath very soon (it goes away if i stop, and so i did). The staff member noticed I hadn't really touched my drink and made me another drink that was out of her own accord and on the house. She kept apologizing for the lack of choices but its not her fault I have these sensitivities!! I felt very attended to and looked after.

Great restaurant. Reasonable prices for what you get. Amazing servers who are very knowledgeable about food being served. Food was presented well and tasted lovely. Each dish had a distinct flavour, I find many restaurants’ foods don’t have and tend to blend together.

A real 5 star experience that made a friend reunion for the first time since Covid really really special. The server was so lovely and really went into detail about the menu with us. Everything we ordered was incredible, so fresh, full of flavour and inventively presented. Great spritz’s and wine pairings too. The vibe of the place is so cool and the music was excellent. Really couldn’t fault the whole experience and we left on a high. Will definitely be back as I want to taste everything else on the menu!

One of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of eating in Cork. Well worth the money. I highly recommend ordering a bunch of their starter plates - it really was a lot of food and a chance to sample all of the different tastes.

Almost perfect. The service was superb, the waiting staff could not have been any more accommodating if they tried. The fish meals were sublime, the only small issue was with the starter which one piece of the Bombay ??? It still tasted OK but was bitter than the other pieces which were exquisite.

I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. Dare I even say, it was the best dining experience of 2023! Beating some tenured London establishments, so hats off to the team! Being half Taiwanese, I was surprised to see a classic Taiwanese street food dish on the menu which was so well done I actually teared up. Each and every dish was spectacular in its own right and equally delicious. Between two people we ordered; one snack, two starters, two mains and one dessert. Plus two hot drinks at the end. The bill was just shy of €100 - a complete bargain for the attention to detail from the kitchen brigade but also the serving staff. It did not escape my attention that the kitchen brigade was 50/50 men and women, and all but one of the serving staff were women. The synchronised team were a dream to watch (we were sat in front of the cold station at the counters). If you only eat at one restaurant in Cork, this must be it! Well done Aishling Moore and team!

Best restaurant in Cork city. As close to Michelin star dining that cork has to offer. The food is sensational couldn’t fault anything. Absolutely glorious meal. We really loved the philosophy and the ever changing menu - even during the day to accommodate what was left from the day’s stocks. The sauces with our mains left us looking for something, anything, to mop it up with 😁 Service was great, relaxed and informal, in a lovely setting. Plus, great beers!

Very well-deserved bib gourmand! We had a wonderful experience: great food (the turbot in particular was excellent), very knowledgeable service (the waiter spent over 5 min describing each dish in a lot of detail at the beginning: the knowledge, appreciation and passion were obvious and it contributed to a memorable experience — if you're reading this: keep it up and thank you!). Would love to go back. Prices reasonable for the quality and experience / refreshing in these days of crazy inflation where you can easily spend 50 EUR for a mediocre dinner…

Vegan restaurant
Café Paradiso is a well-known vegetarian restaurant that has been in operation for many years. The venue features creative global Vegetarian dishes made with local produce and organic wines. The owner, Dennis Cotter, has published four cookbooks as Cafe Paradiso has become one of the most popular restaurants in Cork.
Just back from the most incredible meal at Paradiso. It was the first time my husband and I have eaten out in over a year due to covid, and we could not have had a better experience. We have wanted to eat here for years, and it did not disappoint! The food here is exceptional, the flavours are incredible. Each dish is so full of care and thought. They also ensured the plates were dairy-free for us. The service is second to none. Stephen did an incredible job looking after us, and there were also two other ladies serving us who were both so lovely. We can’t wait to come back to Paradiso. It was absolutely worth travelling down from Dublin to go here, and we are already planning our next visit!

This place is absolutely fantastic! Staying in Cork for work and took some vegetarian friends out for dinner as a thank you. I'm not a vegetarian but honestly wouldn't miss meat it was that incredible, both in taste and aesthetic, the food was amazing. The staff were super friendly and helpful, explaining all that went into each dish. We were there of a Thursday night but the atmosphere was buzzing, with an overall great vibe.

I was nervous... I had waited years to get to Cork and have a meal at Paradiso! I was not disappointed... every plate was exquisite - taste, colour, texture, surprise and balance. Thank you chefs 👍 all was deliciously beautiful.... yum! Thank you Laura and the rest of the serving team we felt so welcome and enjoyed your chat and explanations of the food. A word about the gnocchi...soft and pillow-like with vibrant wild garlic sauce and crispy nettle garnish... loved it... my favourite. Oh but... then there was the asparagus 💚 OK ... it's impossible to name a favourite as each plate was the best. Thank you xx

I would definitely eat here again. I truly enjoyed each dish and was happily full by the end of the 9 sharing plates (but not too full). The service was also great with our servers joking around with us throughout the night. I'd be interested to try the vegan set course as well. For next time...

Without hesitation, this was the best dinner I have ever eaten. A 6 course taster menu that gets better and better, the service is exceptional, the staff are really proud of the experience they are giving, the courses come at the right rate, the attention from the staff is perfect and the food is exceptional. This was my first time eating in this restaurant, it was a gift from my wife and I loved it, the atmosphere was perfect and the restaurant is full of like minded people, we had a lovely chat with the people on the table next to us. Paradiso = paradise and I doubt you will find a review from anyone that hasn't loved the experience.

For some reason Google thinks this is a hotel! It is not it is an amazing restaurant. I do deliberately not say a vegetarian restaurant, this is my favorite restaurant in the world. I am not a vegetarian. The food here is unbelievable what they are able to do with simple boring ingredients is amazing. What is even better is they are all reproducible at home. The range of cookbooks are fabulous. I have most of them from the very first 'yellow' one to the latest 'turnip' one. I make at least two meals per week based on Paradiso recipes!

I shared a wonderful experience in Cafe Paradiso. From the moment we stepped in off the street, we were met with a feeling of welcome and warmth. There is a real sense of care and thoughtfulness gone into every aspect of the design from the decor, to the furnishings and table ware. The sound scape and acoustics have been well considered too, with ample sound absorbing surfaces and textures. The sound does not bounce around, making it a very pleasant space to be in, even on a busy night. Service was great. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The menu was a treat; a journey through tastes, textures and pairings which were unfamiliar but worked beautifully. A real adventure for the taste buds! Would highly recommend to all: whether vegetarian or not!

Probably the best dinner I’ve ever had! The service is magical, the food is just amazingly prepared and excellent. Every dish is a new discovery, always gorgeous, tasteful and a delight. You can chose a wine pairing option (+30€) or just a glass of wine, cocktail or nothing more than the 6 courses vegan menu. I recommend a 💯 times, a beautiful experience and heaven in every bites. 🤤

Such quality, in season veggie food. One of our party has a food intolerance and the waiting staff highlighted the menu for us to show which foods contained it and which didn't. The waiting staff worked with the kitchen to modify some of the food which was really above and beyond. I've never experienced service like it. The tasting menu is the best option and it was incredible. Will be back very soon.

Wonderful experience. No fuzz on the menu as it is one menu for the evening. Just need to advice them if any dietary requirements. In our case, the whole menu is made vegan for us. The restaurant is a vegetarian restaurant anyway. Attention to detail is outstanding. Staff (all of them) are knowledgeable to their food and wine list which in these days is rare. This makes a very enjoyable dining experience. Special mention: wine list is outstanding. Some small vineyards bottles that you are not likely to find elsewhere.

This is my favourite restaurant in cork by far! I have been going there for the last 25 years (my mum used to bring me there as a treat when I was a teenager) and it’s still my favourite place to go all these years later. The food and service is unparalleled anywhere else. And you absolutely do not have to be vegetarian to enjoy the food! So please put this place top of your list of places to eat, you won’t regret it!!

Overpriced. Dined here in late 2022 (amazing all around) and again in early 2023. While the food and service was yet again amazing in 23', the price had increased by 20 euro and the amount had reduced by approx. 30%. We initially got 9 courses and now got 6. We were hungry when we left. The food was excellent but I don't feel anyone should leave hungry at this price.

Great restaurant and food is always good. Having been a patron since its 1st year of opening I always enjoy my yearly visit but not 100% sure about the new set menu. Some of the dishes were taste sensations, others just average. Next year !?

Fine dining, great service. Well recommended. Left feeling full but not bloated. Flavours, tastes and textures out of this world.
Cormac Lehane — Google review
We flew back for our anniversary dinner. The food here never disappoints, every time I think it can’t be better than last time, and miraculously it always is. Truly inventive, delicious, so well balanced and executed, there wasn’t a single bad dish in the entire menu, which is amazing. The wine was fine, but the food, oh dear gods, the food was spectacular. I’ve eaten in restaurants for three or four times this price, and as a vegetarian this is honestly the best restaurant I’ve ever been to, anywhere, consistently. The flavours are complex, nuanced, never insipid, so well thought out and so creative. The ginger broth, the deep fried carrot, the wild garlic bechamel, the smoked tomato umami bread crumbs, the crunchy nettles, this is what vegetarian cooking aspires to be but so rarely achieves. I hate aubergine, but magically I both ate it and actually liked it here. I wish we lived nearer, or I could kidnap Denis Cotter, I don’t understand how he doesn’t have a Michelin star yet, he probably told them to feck off, but as a grumpy, hard to please, fussy vegetarian this place is truly a revelation. Sell your grandma, sell a kidney, but come and eat here and regret all your previous life choices, it will be worth it. Even my carnivorous husband was impressed.

Even by Paradiso standards, this restraunt is at the top of its game right now. Had a flawless meal last night. Couldn't even pick a favourite course, the standard was so high and consistent. No restaurant in the city can touch Paradiso at the moment. Fantastic value, too.

The most excellent meal I have ever had. Came here for a special occasion and it was exceptional. We had an incredibly attentive and charismatic waiter Steve which made the meal a feast and added more colour to the array of flavours which we tasted. Can't wait to go back to experience more of the creativity of Paradiso

Seems the restaurant is listed as a hotel rather than a restaurant so I’ve rated the “room” 5stars to represent the “food” which was absolutely delicious! Atmosphere, staff, food and wine pairing were spot on for a cosy dinner for two. This was our first all vegetarian fine dining experience and we loved it…. so much so we bought the cookbook and will be trying out some dishes at home!

It is with sincere regret that I leave this review. My wife has been a huge supporter of Paradiso for over 30 years. As a long term vegetarian Cafe Paradiso was her food refuge, she introduced so many people to this establishment over the years, me included. My wife has a peculiar food allergy that was never a problem before and as usual she called ahead to alert the restaurant. Unfortunately on this occasion it was a problem. The proprietor simply did not want to know, my wife's food allergy could not be accommodated, no apology, no excuse....that's it....***k you customer..... She was devastated, it was like a death in the family. Maybe DC was just having a bad day? She doesn't know I've left this review, she would not want me to do this as she had such good times (and friends) there, I simply cannot let it go as she was so upset.

The cafe is run by refugees and asylum seekers, and their manaeesh - a delicious Palestinian flatbread with toppings of your choice - is simply amazing.

Cosy spot for authentic Palestinian food. The flavors have a very nice punch and are not at all muted as many other restaurants will hold back to cater toward a Western palate. Coffee is served traditionally strong with stuffed dates. Generous portion sizes, great ambiance, and fast service.

I had heard nothing but great things about Cafe Izz and it exceeded expectations. I had the falafel and it was huge. A lovely Palestinian restaurant, the food was amazing, albeit something very different to what I am generally used to (the spices are very prominent, but not overwhelming; just different). The waitress who was serving us was very approachable and attentive. The atmosphere is quiet and cozy, I would say it is missing some music in the background.
