Specialty Museums
La Piscine - Musée d'art et d'industrie André Diligent de Roubaix is a unique museum housed in a former art deco swimming pool. It offers visitors an impressive collection of fine art and science exhibits organized in a well-structured manner. The introductory texts are primarily in French, however the content is still easily understandable. While there is usually an admission fee, free entrance was available on the day of visit.
Well organized. The theme itself is unique. Even though the introductory texts were all in French, I still felt content. I am not sure why it’s free entrance today. Otherwise reduced price is 9€, full price 11€. Also there were some pieces, not the most famous ones, by Pablo Picasso displayed here. I was very surprised a small city like Roubaix had such a good quality museum.

Bigger than we thought, it could be at least half a day spent at the place if I haven't planned to go somewhere else first. Apart from the bath which is the highlight, around the room there are many art pieces and most of them are cool! There are so many rooms to explore, also there is another upper floor with more pieces! The entry fee is worth the price, now I understand why many local people spend the money to visit the place!
Chan Pichitwattana — Google review
It was fabulous and easily reached by metro from the centre of Lille. It was an amazing art deco swimming pool built in 1932 which unfortunately had to close in 1985. Luckily it was rescued from demolition and a great museum/art gallery space has been created around the beautiful pool area.
Nelson Collier — Google review
.I recently visited the Roubaix swimming pool and was delighted with my experience. The place is not just a space for aquatic relaxation but also a real museum, with its impressive sculptures. Towards the end, I was captivated by the beautiful collection of paintings. A minor downside: a lack of explanations about these works and the crowd at the ticket counter. Despite this, I highly recommend this unique pool

The main gallery — housed in a former swimming pool — is truly stunning and worth a visit. Few museums can boast such a beautiful setting to showcase their art. This alone means it is worth the price of admission. The rest of the museum was interesting to an extent but not necessarily recommended or essential. There are facilities, a café, toilets, and a small garden.
R S — Google review
The museum boasts an impressive collection of decorative art and design objects, ranging from ceramics and glassware to furniture and textiles. The exhibits are well-chosen and give a fascinating insight into the evolution of art and industry over the centuries. All in all, the Museum of Art and Industry is a gem not to be missed.
Alex Gray — Google review
The area around the swimming pool has been made to look very attractive and the museum is full of the usual pieces you will find in most museums. The security staff are unsmiling and antagonistic, but the museum attendants are very friendly and helpful. The cafe is very large, expensive and modern, but the man who served us was nonchalant and lazy. In addition, he tried to play us by not giving us our change. His excuse was that he needed to find someone to provide the change, but this was never communicated to us, and he seemed to be aimlessly wandering around, waiting for us to give up on the change or forget about it and go. It was dishonest, unfriendly and deliberate. I abhor people who take advantage of others and prey on tourists like this. It's completely unacceptable.
Luuta — Google review
Such a gorgeous museum and with a great collection. Well worth a visit. A school band performed there in the evening too which was extra nice.
Phil Corbett — Google review
An absolutely fabulous gem of a museum and art gallery. The central room with the swimming pool as the setting for a collection of sculptures is genius. It works so well. A short walk from the metro station, so is easy to reach by public transport from Lille. Highly recommended.
Robin Cuthbertson — Google review
Very stylish and kids friendly museum! I’ve visited it with my 2 year old daughter (she loved the corridors and animals) but will definitely visit again in a quieter time just by myself.
Elodieetbonbon LI — Google review
Unique museum that's housed inside a former swimming pool. It's art deco and it must have been really cool to go for a swim here in the pool's pomp. A couple of tips: arrive a little later - around midday - as the queues for security after opening can be very long. Don't bring a water bottle with you as apparently you're not allowed to (although I saw no signs or information advertising this). We found out the hard way when a member of staff took great delight in confiscating water from my - clearly pregnant - partner.

La Piscine is definitely one of the best museums I've ever been to in my life. It uses its space so efficiently and effectively, the entire collection is perfectly organised and it's so rich and diverse, ranging from paintings, sculptures, fashion pieces, and all in completely different styles and topics. Has one of the best souvenir shops, too. I am absolutely in awe and would definitely recommend it to anyone, whether you're a lone art enjoyer or a family with kids, I'm sure everyone will find something to love there.
Maria Mrowicka — Google review
Beautiful result for an old public swimming pool transformed into a museum. Collection is mostly sculptures, ceramics, paintings, some master's work. 9€ ticket, nice hours roaming around, beautiful café inside, garden, shop... Worth it.
Gérard Drouville — Google review
I love this museum. It has many permanent exhibits and features temp exhibits as well. My favorite feature is the piscine room. The statues which line the pool and the multiple alcoves on the first 2 levels offer a unique museum experience. I recommend the restaurant at the Piscine as well. Great food.
Rick Price — Google review
This is a special museum, completely different from any other I have visited. The permanent collection is quite interesting, and they always have great special exhibitions. They modernized the building, but they kept all the original spaces of the changing rooms and the pool tiles. Worth the visit, for sure!
Bernardo Pagnoncelli — Google review
Great museum and cultural institution. A very beautiful architecture. The right level of text / explanations. The only downside is that it gets crowded during holiday time or when there is a temporary expo. Easy to access from Lille—great for a day activity.
Victor Agulhon — Google review
A stunning and unusual museum. Don’t miss the collection of local artists, the fabric and fashion collection and a host of special exhibitions - big and small. The extraordinary thing is the fact that the building is an Art Deco swimming pool - and yes - there is still water in the pool. Amazing ceramics and sculptures too. A serviceable cafe with a sheltered courtyard garden - very popular and a good gift shop.
Wendy Shillam — Google review
Such an unusual museum with great art pieces in it. I especially loved the Mark Chagall’s art. It was great to see his art in real life for the first time. Im impressed.

Stunning, a beautiful use of the building and many lovely items to admire , very unusual, well worth the 25 minute trip on the metro from central Lille to visit

Villa Cavrois, a modernist mansion dating back to the early 1930s, has been restored with period furniture and decor. The villa is open for public viewing and offers a rare glimpse into the lifestyle of wealthy individuals during that era. The architecture of the villa is remarkable, resembling a small castle from the 1930s. It features retro fittings, lighting, and marble fireplaces that are fascinating to observe.
It is a very interesting experience for someone who is interested in design. The villa shows lots of examples of highly artistic and precise work. The materials used are amazing and really different (but matching) in the entire estate. A visit is recommended 👌

Rarely you get to see the inside of a villa dating early 1930+. Completely restored, it was fascinating to the retro furniture, fittings, marble fire place, lighting, architecture. The documentary is interesting to learn how painstakingly the villa got restored back to its former glory.

What an amazing place. I spent a couple of hours exploring this incredible building. It's clear that years of masterful skill and love went into the restoration of this architectural gem. My holidays were nearly three weeks in the Netherlands and France and the Villa Cavrois turned out to be a real highlight. Highly recommended.

Simple and interesting visit ! The house is like a 1930s small castle, it gives you a glimpse into how rich people lived back in the day. Staffs were friendly too
Minh DINH — Google review
Gorgeous building designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens in 1929 for the Cavrois family and their seven children. The history of the building is both saddening and uplifting; with Nazi occupation in the early 40’s to an amazing restoration in the 2000’s. Wonderful home in Croix, France.
Larry Giacoletti — Google review
Wow wow wow. If you love design. If you love attention to detail. If you love nice things. This is a very cool place. Painstakingly restored beautiful family home. I would have loved to have lived in this house. So grand. Fabulous design details. An architectural masterpiece. Very well presented as an attraction. Loved it.
Sarah Carless — Google review
One of the Best modern architecture examples ever. The French government took over the care of the house in the early 2ks and it really is interesting to see the house and to think about the design choices
shaun collins — Google review
Very impressive restored villa by Architect Robert Mallet-Stevens following Bauhaus and 'De Stijl' from 1930. You can visit the garden and the interiors. Some of them are furnitured with the original accompanying pieces. It's open every day of the week and weekend to visit, you can stay as long as you want. There are info folders in Français, English, Deutsch en Nederlands. Visit takes more or less an hour. No (audio)guides or cafeteria but a fun giftshop and free toilets are available. No private parking available. Street parking is free but limited.
Sam Bouckaert — Google review
Great feat of architecture. Nice tour with interesting information on the leaflet and in the movie showing the history of the house. Good thing this house was renovated back to its original design after being almost completely destroyed during the second world war. Must-visit for people living nearby and/or people interested in architecture and design.
S. D. — Google review
When considering that this building is almost a century old, it almost feels space age. If only the walls could tell the tales of the vast array of things that took place inside during its existence. Attention to detail of restauration work mind blowing.
Luca Lategan — Google review
Getting here is easy: take a tram from Lille and it's a ten minute walk along quiet streets from the stop helpfully called Villa Carvois. Once there, head through the small shop and get your tickets at the booth. Once inside, you can tour the house one floor at a time including the basement. Most of the house was wrecked in the 90s by squaters so this is actually a museum of restoration rather than items from the actual period. In the basement, there is an information video that explains how the house was restored. Overall, we had a good experience although I'd have preferred if it felt like a lived in house: most rooms are empty.

The Furet du Nord book store is one of the most beautiful and well-loved in all of northern France. It has a wide range of books, from classics to manga comics, and a pleasant selection of English-language literature, as well as local souvenirs. It's an excellent place to spend an afternoon browsing or to buy gifts for friends and family.
My favorite bookstore. Nice staff. Awesome view on the grand place from up top. Found some nice parisian gifts for my American friends

Loved the smell of books. Thanks for the service you guys bring and loads of books on display. I got my favourite English reads, from the Crime section. Everything orderly arranged, with a neat setup which is helful when finding specific books from specific genres. Good work people!!

First I want to say that workers there are so respectful and helpful, they really know what you are looking for. Second what I loved is the large pool of prices for the same product so you can an elegant pen for 20 euros or for an astonishing 2000 euros. Really big library many items: regional, national and international nice going guys.
Rock Akiki — Google review
Gigantic, beautiful, modern and complete. A dream of a bookstore for any major metropolis, let alone a mid-sized city like Lille! Truly impressive. The only downside, really, is that the selection of foreign-language books could be more diverse in terms of languages.

Really awesome bookstore that's located in the heart of Lille. From the outside, you would never guess just how big it is on the inside. It has pretty much everything that you could think of and more. Highly recommend to visit even if you're not looking to buy anything. Yes, the experience is that good!

The Mining History Centre is a former colliery that has been transformed into a museum showcasing the history of mining in the region. Visitors can explore the underground tours and view the machinery used during that time. The experience is realistic, transporting visitors back in time. Plan for at least 3 hours to fully appreciate everything on offer and wear comfortable shoes as it involves walking. The museum also offers a small souvenir shop and many activities suitable for all ages throughout the year.
Great attraction showing how minig has changed through the ages. Includes information on how the miners worked and lived. Well presented and a great day out.

We liked our visit at the museum. Everything is in French and they offer an audio tour in several languages. The audio tour is not quite tourist-childfriendly because of the highly detailed information, but our 8yr old picked up enough to get a grasp of what she was seeing. The guided tour through the reconstructed mine is very nice to see for all ages. It gives a really nice impression of life down the mines.
J.A.C. van Yperen — Google review
Mooi informatieve site over het leven en werk van de mijnwerkers in de streek. Zeer mooie rondleiding in de nagemaakte steenkoolmijn. De moeite om eens te bezoeken! Great museum. It felt very personal knowing my forebears were coal Miners nearby from 1720 till 1930
Thierry S. — Google review
I never thought that I could enjoy this type of visit that much. The museum is so realistic, you have the feeling of going back to the past. Count minimum 3hours for a full visit and wear comfortable shoes, it's important.🤪 There's a small shop for souvenirs, many other activities for almost all ages throughout the year. If you're visiting the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, then you should definitely stop by this museum. It's worth your curiosity especially if you like history though this one isn't a joyful one. To those who have read "Germinal" of Emile Zola, this museum is the best way to feel like you were present in those days, meanwhile many of us weren't even born when it all happened.😊
Nancy Moussima — Google review
Really nice museum, with a very nice collection. There are lots of stuff and info for small and big. The entry to the "mine" is very informative. If you plan to go plan atleast three hours to have time enough to get all the information. We spent nearly three hours with two children and did not manage to see it all. The reason for only 4 stars is the missing information in English in the permanent exhibition.
Eskil Nielsen — Google review
Very interesting and rich in terms of history. Great way to understand how the mines worked. Strongly recommend!

Its menu includes a variety of options such as shrimp and red mullet.
Wow! A very creative fixed price menu which included foie gras on macarons and snail ravioli! It was all delicious and service was excellent. Great value for the quality of the beautifully prepared dishes. Will definitely come here to eat if we are passing through Calais again. Highly recommend.

Tasty food, but average presentation, tired and old fashion place. Owner lady not too friendly with us ( this time we are tourist), but one plus point: we could take our medium size dog inside. Fish soup expensive and small portion.

We'd intended to find somewhere for a quick meal as we had some distance to travel, but were seduced by this delightful restaurant. The food was delicious and artistically presented, and the charming decor and helpful service all added to the ambience. We'll certainly make a note of it for next time as it made a really good start to our time in France - thank you!

Positives: Nice looking restaurant with great service. Negatives: Expensive and the food was average.
Sadi Pekin — Google review
Quite a blast from the past. Charmingly dated decor, food options and presentation. A menu and restaurant frozen in the 80s, complete with tuxedoed waiter. The owner was passably polite. Spent a lot of time gossiping with some (I assume) grandees of Calais on the next table. We didn't want to drink alcohol but the waiter was quite pushy and insistent, implying that we were cheap (offering us a cheaper price for a glass) rather than just taking no for an answer. Service was slow. But the food was very hearty and and flavourful when it arrived. Impressive desserts
Greg Cotton — Google review
A gem in Calais, have not visited in 15 years but still as good as I remember it. Food and service are excellent, the set menus are great value.

A old fashioned restaurant whose grand rooms felt like they saw quite the crowd on their day, but were quiet during our Monday evening meal. Our hosts were polite and helpful, and keen to suggest an aperitif and wine. The food too felt grandly old fashioned, yet innovative. Our dessert of pavlova with goat milk Chantilly and mango was as delicious as it was unusual. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here.

We had a really great dinner time here, with excellent hospitality with the staff who recommended us a lot of good dishes and wine in reasonable price. The appetiser dishes were mouthwatering, especially the Foie Gras serving with refreshing passion fruit sauce. Escargots is another outstanding dish, with really nice garlic butter dressing. For main dish, the fishes and scallops dishes were both very fine with good mixture of dressing. The only thing we are disappointed was we are not able to taste any dessert as we had to catch the ferry back to UK. Definitely we come back again to try them.

Very profesional and friendly staff. Beautiful food, we ordered from the 32€ menu, marrow and foie for starters (the foie was melting in my mouth) and hotdog du canard plus beef (I would recommend the beef, the hot dog was a kind of a second starter). Desserts were the best of the dinner. We’ll come back as there were many other options.

La Buissonnière is a wonderful poetic place where you can forget the hustle and bustle of shopping and taste real French cuisine in peace and take your time choosing the right wine. This restaurant is an island of the old world in a sea of bad food, bad politics and bad manners. Once you find this place in Calais you will keep coming back time and time again for a quality time and perfect service. Opening times and table booking throughout the day, secure free parking for up to 1.5hrs across the road from the restaurant.

We dined here twice this weekend as we visited Callais to catch up with family and La Buissonniére provided amazing food, a lovely atmosphere and the most fantastic hospitality Caroline was an amazing host alongside Claudine and François the chef! We had many amazing things to eat including the Scallops, Sweetbreads, Duck Taretare and the most exquisite Kidneys I’ve ever tried cooked in port. Then on the second day we were invited back to try the frogs legs, grilled turbot and to finish it off an amazing Crepe Suzette cooked over our very table Thank you so much for making us feel welcome, we look forward to returning to Calais and dining again very soon!

Restaurant Le Paris is an upscale dining establishment in Le Touquet Paris-Plage that offers a refined atmosphere and a menu consisting of creatively reimagined French classics. This highly regarded restaurant has been recognized with the prestigious Maitre Restaurateur title, indicating its commitment to exceptional quality. The dishes at Restaurant Le Paris are predominantly traditional French cuisine, with the exception of the Italian-inspired burratina di Puglia dish.
High class establishment with high-quality food and top-notch service. Quite affordable for what you get in return! The entrée of my menu mainly consisted of a rich hummus made of peas, some coppa and some crackers. The main dish was some tender chicken (cuit à la française) playfully arranged on the plate. To finish I had some crème brûlée which wasn't really brûlée but still was great. The pear slices and pear pieces, teamed up with the crumble to elevate the crème to a higher level.

La Marie Galante is a charming restaurant in Cap Gris Nez that offers an outstanding seafood platter with incredibly fresh and varied items. The couteaux appetizer is highly recommended, and the local cheese platters are perfect for cheese lovers. The restaurant provides friendly service, great food, and well-served wines in a cozy and clean environment. Visitors can enjoy delicious seafood dishes like the tout cuit plate with crab and generous portions of mussels.
The seafood platter here is the best we’ve had so far in Cap Gris Nez! All seafood was incredibly fresh and the platter offered a great variety of items to enjoy. We also highly recommend the couteaux as an appetizer—the best preparation we’ve *ever* tasted. Those alone are a reason to go back! Cheese lovers will also greatly appreciate the local cheese platters they offer for dessert, alongside a variety of other scrumptious desserts. The restaurant has been owned by the same family for multiple generations, resulting in a truly charming setting with very friendly service. No wonder it came highly recommended by some locals! If you can, try to make a reservation ahead of time as both the patio and indoor restaurant were packed around noon on a summer weekday.

La Liégeoise is a charming fine dining restaurant located in a tranquil coastal town in northern France. During a weekend getaway, the experience was unforgettable with its innovative presentation using local elements like seaweed butter served on stones. The staff provided attentive and stylish service, treating guests with respect. The diverse menu caters to various tastes and showcases thoughtful creativity without being overly extravagant. While some experimental dishes may be unconventional, the overall dining experience is delightful and theatrical.
Amazing experience with great service and delicious food. Came to celebrate getting engaged the day before, en it felt really special. The food was plenty, almost too much to eat. All dishes were unique and interesting, which lots of flavour. The wine was a perfect match to the dishes, and also on it's own a true experience. The sommelier knows a lot about the wines, and although we cannot speak french and only understand a little, we felt welcome and appreciated as customers and they tried to explain as much as possible. First experience in a restaurant of this level, but very much worth it and happy to go again for the next special occasion.

Proper Restaurant de Posh! A few slightly out-there experimental dishes - strawberries with rocket mousse(!) But overall a delicious, theatrical dining experience

It was July when we visited this gem fine dining in a sleepy seaside town of north France. We made a Virgin drive from UK to the continental Europe as my partner just got his new car, we stopped by here during our weekend short break. It was one of my most memorable dinners so far - with creative serving decorations and presentations using local stones and ingredients like seaweed butter on the rock which were delightful in our eyes and delicious and delicate in our tongues. We enjoyed cold Chablis matched perfectly with our fish plate. The waiter was professional and efficient.

I'm not entirely sure how this place got a star, but they manage to possess, impressively, both the worst food I've eaten and the worst service I've had in any restaurant mentioned in the Michelin guide. One to avoid hard.

Staff serve food and drink with care and style. Guests are treated with respect. Menu was varied and suited many tastes. Food treated with a lot of care and thoughtful creativity but not excessively.

I was very happy to discover there was a michelin star restaurant in wimereux. Most people stop here for lunch before heading back to folkestone on the eurotunnel. Excellent window table and lovely friendly staff started things off well and a good selection of menus degustacion and a la carte too. We opted for the gourmande 6 course tasting menu but no pairing as the wine list was pretty good. Sadly the food throughout was a strange mix of bland to overly seasoned and the goats cheese 5 ways was just not nice. Dessert and second course of halibut with squash were excellent but the rest was sadly below par for a restaurant of michelin calibre. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to it. I doubt we will return
