Gardens
Johnston Gardens is a tranquil public park located in Aberdeens City Centre. The gardens are full of beautiful landscaped gardens with streams, ponds, waterfalls, rockeries and a striking bridge. It's a Photographer's dream! The park also has a small play area and large selection of flowers to view.
Visited this beautiful place for the first time and trust me it was just amazing. It was super peaceful and relaxing with the birds chirping in the background. A must visit place in Aberdeen.

Stunning well kept park/gardens. Lovely pathways to enjoy different areas. Great pond with ducks and lilies just in bud so will return real soon to see the explosion of colour. A very pleasant find

Dropped by for a short stroll and then relaxed on one of the many benches dotted around the gardens. Lots of mallards in the pond and even a heron today.

Small but beautiful garden. A must visit. Quiet place to sit and relax. Not many people around.
kiran shanbhag — Google review
This is a beautiful tranquil spot in the suburbs of Aberdeen. You leave busy roads and walk into these lovely gardens. The rhododendrons are so colourful just now and there are so many beautiful species of trees and shrubs. The pond is lovely too with families of ducks with ducklings. There's also a moorhen nesting in the pond. A very peaceful place to have a walk round. I believe it's tended by volunteers. A huge thank you to them all for all their hard work.

The Gordon Highlanders Museum

Army museum
The Gordon Highlanders Museum is a Regimental Museum which tells the story of over two centuries of British Army service in one of Scotland's most historic regiments. The museum has an extensive collection tracing the regiment's history from its origins in the 18th century to present day. There are also walking trails and attractions nearby including Fort George and the Highlanders Museum as well as Culloden Battlefield.
My Grandad was a Gordon Highlander during the war. As I am visiting Scotland for the first time I was advised to go here. Its quite small but the family ticket makers it a reasonable price. I didn't learn too much that I didn't already know from family stories of his time there however a curate took the time to talk to us. He explained that once covid restrictions had gone they would probably return to undertaking research requests and would hopefully help find some more information. They have little lego figures around for the children to find so that helped keep my youngest amused
Jennifer Harper — Google review
Cannot recommend it highly enough. What an incredibly warm welcome, which continued, (I also quickly visited the cafe, where i had a tasty but generous slice of cake) I met some museum managers as I explored, we chatted about the events and history, was even offered a Christmas chocolate by staff as I left. Lots of history, but the visit made by the people. The museum used the last few years wisely, the presentation of the galleries is great, easy to read interpretation, with clear font, graphics and nicely laid out cabinets. It feels updated and modern, yet has lots on display to appeal to history lovers. Also great if you like swords and silverware.
Marcus Cribb — Google review
Amazing displays and super helpful guides the entire way through the museum! Worth every minute it takes to go through it all!
Ian Radford — Google review
An absolutely first class military museum, well managed with outstanding exhibits with a knowledgeable and friendly staff, a history lesson in itself. Also a comfortable and clean cafe area with very reasonable prices. Not to be missed if you’re anywhere in or around Aberdeen.
Tim Short — Google review
A fantastic day out for the whole family. There's a little trail of Lego figures for the kids to find as they go round. There's plenty of parking, no wait to enter and the staff and volunteers were extremely helpful and friendly. Under 5s go free, likewise for Blue Light Card holders. The World War 1 trench is well worth a visit!
Peter McAndie — Google review
Guide tour and all the staff were so welcoming and nice! Plus the cafe had a delicious gluten free cake!! The museum itself takes you through the history of the Gordon Highlander's batalion first with a video recap, and then through a series of vitrines exposing important objects and cloth items recapping each achievement.
madalena Rio — Google review
A great military museum to visit when anyone is in Aberdeen. The audio guide came in very handy during the tour. Gives a good historical account of one of Scotland's elite units
Imran Bin Mohamed Noor (Imran) — Google review
One of the best museums I have visited in many years - including London. The replica 1st world war trench was an eye-opener even for a history buff. We had a fantastic guide who was very knowledgeable over the details. I do feel a little sad that such great and famous regiment, with a second to none fighting history, is no more. Victim of cost saving and consolidation. Long may their memory endure.
Dr Royston Morgan — Google review
A lovely history and museum of the Gordon Regiment. The staff are fantastic, full of knowledge and friendly. The cafe is nice and well priced. Both a haunting and humbling experience especially with the trenches.
Robert Flannigan — Google review
The most impressive experience we ever had in a museum visit. My partner and I visited the museum yesterday. We arrived with a warm welcome and informative introduction. The design of the visit flow is amazingly smart: starting with a video and then a pathway by critical moments in history, then there was a very knowledgeable lady who brought us to the replica of trenches in WWI and told us many interesting stories. All the staff there were very passionate, friendly and professional. I'd have rated this with 10 out 10. Highly recommended if you have an afternoon time to visit this wonderful place.
Ryan L. — Google review
A wonderful museum with an impressive collection. The building itself is pretty and has all the modern amenities which allow comfortable experience for guests of every age/ability. There's a lot to see inside, but it's not overdone. All exhibition rooms are well-designed and very aesthetic. There are also some interactive elements. I have to say you don't need to be a military freak to enjoy this. A lot of stuff like the silverware collection or little bits and pieces of soldiers' equipment can be interesting to everyone. I however am a freak so I especially enjoyed the weapons collection, medals from many different campaigns and of course the famous WW1 trench which is located on the outside. Sadly it was raining when I visited so I didn't take pictures, but on the other hand it only added to the experience. Hats off to the folks who designed and built it, it's a work of art. There was a young guide with us, who was super-passionate about WW1 and had a great storytelling talent. For more sensitive audience and kids this may be a slightly heavy topic, so keep that in mind. All in all, one of Aberdeen's top attractions. A definite must-see.
Krzysztof Drzewiński — Google review
A wonderfully comprehensive museum, set in a beautifully historic building in Aberdeen. The exhibits are impressive, and you are given a phone recorded guide to go around the museum at your own pace. The staff are all enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and the tours are also child friendly.
Maddy Sutherland — Google review
Beautiful old building and nicely arranged exhibition. Try a guided tour if there is available. We really enjoyed the guided tour with a volunteer retired army officer. The trench outside the building is also very interesting
Greg Man — Google review
We visited the museum on Tuesday, sadly I can't remember the name of the gentleman that gave us a tour around but honestly he was so much better than expected, very knowledgeable with a great sense of humour which meant we were exchanging jokes for the most part while learning about the history associated with this beautiful building. The silver room was very interesting as was the armoury. If we'd have known how much we'd have enjoyed it we'd have certainly taken the guide up on the 2.5 hour tour, it would've been worth every second.
Kyle Richardson — Google review
Nice and interesting museum to visit at any time, it can take one to two hours to see all the exhibits. They welcome you very kindly and there are several guides to take care of you. They also offer you a little tour through a full-size World War I trench with all its props including a machine gun nest. The coffee lounge is also very nice and convenient.
Jorge Rodriguez — Google review
Great visit here. I came here looking for my family association with the Gordon Highlanders. My Great Uncle Francis Left Keith with the Highlanders for France with the B.E.F WW2. Also my grandfather was attached to the HD from El Alamein to Bremerhaven. Great facilities and very interesting day indeed

Love this place! I come every time I’m in Aberdeen; really nice selection of plants & an amazing cactus room! It’s free entry (but there’s the ability to leave a donation) - a really nice and affordable afternoon out.

A wonerful attraction located within the impressive Duthie Park close to Aberdeen centre. The gardens are enclosed within a series of linked glazed greenhouses. From the moment you walk in through main entrance you see wonderful colour even in January when I went. Also the sound of flowing water from the indoor streams add to the experience. You are guided round by following indoor footpaths back to the start. Highlights are the house with an incredible array of cacti. Other areas with probably different atmosphere control almost feel tropical. Some sections are staff only which are set aside to grow on young plants etc. Fantastic attraction, completely free & well worth spending an hour to do a full circuit or even more to read all the information boards more closely. Plenty of clean WC's & adjoining cafe/restaurant which I didn't sample. Highly recommended especially on a cold, wet January day.

Truly amazing place, I cannot believe it's free. Exceptional collection of Agave, Aloe, Opuntia and other succulents.

Lovey place to visit. Well kept. Hats off to those responsible for its upkeep 👍

A fabulous botanic garden that surprisingly is free! You can easily take a relaxed stroll around here for an hour, exploring the many different garden themes. There are benches everywhere to sit down and have lunch or read a book. The variety of plants is very impressive. There are free toilets around as well, and a cafe to have a cuppa. If you want to escape into a free world of colour and be reminded of how beautiful nature can be, do visit, you won’t regret.

Even in winter with snow on the ground outside, a wonderful display under glass. Bigger than expected. A delight and worthy of support.

Amazing place , recommend to check online if is open . We arrived once and it was closed unfortunately. First of all place is absolutely free , donation box is by the entrance together with contact less reader. It's unbelievable it is for free place is huge and very well maintained. We love plants so we spend hours these and definitely coming back in wormer months to visits outdoor part of the gardens . Recommend as well to visit restaurant by the garden, good prices and nice food.

Beautiful place, you could spend a good amount of time exploring the different areas. Only thing I'd ask for more of is more signs explaining each plant! I'd love to learn more.
Kirsten Buniak — Google review
Lovely garden, definitely recommend visiting. Has many different species of plants.
Anzelika Lincika — Google review
Lovely quiet space, when it's not too busy. I was attending a gardening workshop as part of Climate Week North East. It was brilliant, very instructive and inclusive. I wish there were more of these, open to the public.
Rachel Maurice — Google review
I've been coming to this place for a lot longer than I'd like to admit. It honestly hasn't changed much, it's still a lovely place to visit. Plenty of beautiful plants and great atmosphere. It's not a place to rush through. Take your time and enjoy every plant, big or small. It's quite relaxing. I can't wait to take my kids back when the plants are blooming. Entry is free. It's not suitable for wheelchairs. There's stairs but there's plenty of places to sit. I would love to see the place extended. Some of those trees which I've known for most of my life are getting big haha. Note: It IS a shame to see people have been carving their names into the cactus. The Youtube generation clearly have nothing better to do. Shame to see so many damaged plants in that area.

The Aberdeen Maritime Museum is a fascinating museum complex with an extensive collection of maritime artifacts, as well as an exhibition on the history and lifestyle of the North Sea oil industry. The museum is situated in a beautiful 16th century Provost Ross's House in the city's shiprow district.
I visited this museum last month. All safety measures in place, its free ( no cost)to go and look around. The staff were very friendly and polite, they also seemed to know a lot about the museum. Takes about 90 minutes to look around, plenty of interaction for adults and children. Was a very enjoyable visit. Would i recommend.... yes, would i recommend... 100% yes
MARK HALLIWELL — Google review
Excellent museum. I learned a lot about oil extraction and life on oil rigs. The maritime history of Aberdeen was also very well presented. Definitely worth a visit.
Marianne Heredge — Google review
A lovely free museum to visit, either with friends, family, or on your own (a donation is recommended!) Although there’s currently neither a café nor a gift shop to throw your money at, the exhibitions are expansive, and even include, to my surprise, pieces on Thomas Blake Glover. I’m hoping that this museum survives the current economic downfall, as we really need places like this to be open and accessible.
Maddy Sutherland — Google review
Very nice museum with amazing interior layout. It's very inspiring to see the history or aberdeen ships and fishing industry. Loved the place
Azra Maliha — Google review
My time at the Aberdeen Maritime Museum was really fun and enlightening. It's fascinating the structure of the place, the models at the museum, and what you can actually learn there. History is brought to life over there.
Chukwuma Onwujiuba — Google review
At the moment there is no cafe or shop. Hopefully that will change soon as things get back to normal. There are some terrific exhibits but the buildings themselves are wonderful and the views from the top floor are unbeatable. There is also a gallery devoted to temporary exhibitions and when I was there it had photographs from Ukraine which was quite poignant. A great venue and free!
Karren Huzzey — Google review
It was a knowledgeable and informative experience. It shows you the greatest history of the Aberdeen oil and ship industry. One should visit this place if you are new to this town. Also, it's free of cost but you can donate.
Ajay Bali — Google review
A really informative, excellent museum in the heart of Aberdeen. Take a lift up to the top floor and work your way down the stairs floor by floor, and learn all about the seafaring history of the city, lots of interactive displays, sit and watch a short film, ask the friendly staff on hand questions. Gift shop on the ground floor. And it's free, donations gratefully received.
Jacqui Cutter — Google review
Amazing museum, it's a lot bigger and more interesting than you might expect, very well presented. Covers history of shipping, fishing, oil and gas industry and environmental issues. Some great exhibits and wonderful social history photographs. Great views of the harbour from here too. There's enough to keep the little ones interested too. It's free, what have you got to lose??
Cats Blink — Google review
Plenty of exhibits with information, free to enter, looking at everything took a couple hours across 4 or 5 floors. A lot of Aberdeen specific history and artifacts. Definitely worth dropping by. So far both times we have been, the Cafe was closed but was nice to sit and relax. Great place to spend the afternoon with family. There were a lot of model ships so I recommend to anyone who is a model ship enthusiast even if they don't like history.
Chrystal Cannon — Google review
This museum has so many wonderful items to see, you can spend many hours enjoying the maritime exhibits and watching the films. Loved my visit.
Joanne McBride — Google review
The staff on reception were extremely welcoming and informative. Sadly, I didn't have two long to experience everything in this museum. So I did get around it very quickly and sadly could not see everything I wanted to see. I really enjoyed my time there and saw some interesting things at this Martime Museum. If I am ever in Aberdeen again, I will be making more time so I can return and stay for a little longer.
Bob JOE — Google review
Fascinating Museum, full of interesting displays and artifacts. With the added bonus of a birds eye view over the harbour and the North link ferry terminal which links Aberdeen to Orkney and the Shetland islands.
Roger Unwin — Google review
The Museum has a rich history of ship making in Aberdeen, evolution of subsea technologies, discovery of oil and gas in the North Sea, and many more. Everything in one place. And, did I mention that you also get some nice views of Aberdeen Harbour from the Museum?
Tiwonge Banda — Google review
What a fun and informative visit! Haven’t been in years, but it was well worth going. A fab morning for adults and children alike, with some great interactive activities to do. The history of Aberdeen was fascinating!
JM — Google review
A beautiful and hypnotic museum dedicated to the long and mostly harmonious relationship between the city and the vast North Sea. I appreciate how largely uncommercial this museum is: there is no attempt to be controversial or flashy and spectacular in order to increase visitations. There is no override pageantry or blatant attempts to push a particular perspective. Instead, there is all of the complicated and comprehensive curiosity and thoughtfulness that should define the mission of a museum. I felt a profound sense of serenity being surrounded by the paintings of the ships of distant ages. As an environmentalist, I was initially a little worried about the prevalence of the oil and natural gas exhibits, but in reality, the exhibition is quite balanced, portraying the importance of the industry to the history of the city while also exposing its controversies over the decades. Great museum, and I hope that all those who are interested in the history of Aberdeen go here.
Joshua Fagan — Google review
Was really interesting and is free to go into. There's pots for donations and a cute gift shop. We even scored two jellycats. Had a nice afternoon
Chloe Wightman — Google review
Free admission with a donation box and small gift shop. Four floors of replicas, paintings, artifacts, and a few historical documentaries in their own rooms. Very enjoyable to look at at your own pace. Short and sweet.
Owen Tuttle — Google review
I wasn't sure what to expect here but found this a really interesting museum to spend an afternoon in! It's free to get in, and the museum has multiple floors of exhibits as well as a lovely gift shop too! What I really liked was the strong connection to Aberdeen. By far my favourite were the exhibits on the oil industry which I really didn't know much about and is obviously so important to the area. The giant model of an oil rig spanning multiple floors is a fantastic way of showing just how big they are and give you a closer look! There are also model ships related to Aberdeen and the history of rescues in the surrounding waters too. Overall, there's a lot to see and there are global links too to discover- I've been to Nagasaki and walked around the Glover Garden so to read about the man himself and the opening of Japan to trade was fantastic!
Natalie D — Google review
great experience at the Maritime Museum, the top two floors were incredibly fascinating, getting to see the Murchison Platform in a smaller scale with incredible detail with other bits and bobs of the oil and gas industry. The bottom few floors do get a little boring when you start with something so cool. I would suggest starting ground up for sure.
Nathan Fernandes — Google review
Fabulous free maritime museum detailing the history of the North Sea, Scottish Oil and Gas exploration. Even to those with some nautical background ot is well worth a visit. Located a stones throw from the docks and all the offshore supply vessels. Multi storey car park literally across the road. Cheap day out in the heart of a bustling city.

Excellent museum and very informative. Plenty of exhibits and pictures with detailed information. The museum regularly holds events/talks which are free to attend. Talks are presented by local knowledgeable people who are/was involved in Maritime life. Also Archeology event was great. Lift to all floors with seating areas, toilets and small gift shop on ground floor. Very helpful staff/guides are on hand to answer any questions you may have. A must to visit when you are in Aberdeen.

Bullers of Buchan is a scenic clifftop hiking area situated near the village with the same name, and located a short drive away from Cruden Bay and Slains Castle. The trail leads to a collapsed sea cave that boasts of rock arches and seasonal seabird colonies, including puffins. This attraction is approximately 25 miles outside Aberdeen, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers seeking breathtaking views of the cliffs facing the sea.
Wonderfull area to explore on the cliff tops with the waves pounding against the rocks below and the thousands of seabirds creating a racket as they nest on the almost perpendicular cliff face. The large car park is only a 10min walk from the collapsed sea cave that is the Bullers but the walk can be extended north and south for gorgeous sea views and bays . We were lucky enough to see puffins on our last visit and have seen porpoises and seals from the cliff top path as well. The path can be narrow in parts but taking it carefully will ensure no dramas

Lovely short walk from the car park and amazing view along the coast. You can go up to the Bullers and come back or take one of the scenic routes along the coastal path. Paths narrow in places and can be muddy, slippery after rainfall. From May, if you are lucky you can spot puffins here. Steep cliff, keep children and dogs near you. Not suitable for prams or buggies although you can reach the main view point with a little bit of help.
Fabrizio Oddo — Google review
Magnificent area of wild Scottish scenery. Spectacular rocky cliffs, hidden coves, traditional fishermen's cottages and thousands of seabirds. No facilities like shops, toilets etc., but that would spoil this place. One of the most glorious places I've ever visited.
Ian Fraser — Google review
Amazing place to see the cliffs and to watch Puffins around July. All year long you'll see 2 seals swimming in the bay. A wee hike around this coastal path is magical. Sufficient parking spaces are close-by. No toilet facilities available.

The Bullers of Buchan is a very special area. There is good parking and then it is up to you how long you spend exploring these amazing cliffs. There are plenty sea birds to be seen and if you time it right season wise you have a good chance of seeing puffins. The day I visited it was pretty wet but it was still spectacular. It goes without saying please take care along the cliff edges.
Allan MacIver — Google review
Great views! The landscapes are amazing, really necessary to take a walk and explore, each one better.
Mirela Radu — Google review
We've been here a few times but today (25th May at 7pm) was the first time we've seen the puffins! There were some very daring photographers on the cliff edges taking some great close up shots on the right hand cliff path but the left hand path which takes you to the collapsed cave itself was completely free of people. We thought it would be busier here with it being a Sunday, obviously bang on puffin season and such great weather - but it wasn't bad at all, around 10 cars in the car park which can fit a lot more than that. We didn't walk to Slains Castle today but have done on previous visits. Love it here!
Vicky Dunbar — Google review
What a unique, memorable place! We had never seen so many birds nesting together. The views were spectacular. The cliffs are dangerous so this is probably not advisable to do with young ones. The water is not too far from parking so this is quick to do if you are short on time.
Mikell A — Google review
Was hoping to see puffins but alas not to be. Saw plenty of other birds though, and the views were incredible. Definitely recommend a visit, especially if you have binoculars (I didn't have any, but wish I had!) as you could easily spend hours watching and listening to the birds.
Stacey Dougal — Google review
A beautiful coastal rock formation, just north of Aberdeen. Amongst a lot of other seabirds, puffins can be spotted during the breeding season. Unfortunately, the bird flu takes its toll here too, with dead birds floating in the water.
Jacky Dahlhaus — Google review
This is an easy trail if you want to practice hiking. I always bring a coffee and a mat with me to spend some time looking at the spectacular view of the cliff. If you’re lucky to see the seals playing with the birds that makes my stay even longer. I go for short nature walk to recharge myself before going back to work as being a nurse is exhausting at times.

The Bullers of Buchan, situated near Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is a captivating geological wonder that has captivated visitors for centuries. Formed by the relentless force of the North Sea against the rugged coastline, this natural phenomenon comprises collapsed sea caves that have created majestic circular chasms, some reaching up to 30 meters in diameter and over 20 meters deep.As you stand atop the cliffs overlooking the Bullers, you're greeted by breathtaking views of the churning sea below, echoing the constant battle between land and water. The sheer cliffs rise dramatically, providing a dramatic backdrop to the spectacle unfolding beneath. Seabirds, including puffins, razorbills, and guillemots, find sanctuary in the cliffs, adding to the area's charm and biodiversity.Legend has it that the name "Bullers" comes from the bellowing sound the sea makes as it crashes against the rocks during stormy weather, creating an awe-inspiring symphony of nature's power. Indeed, the Bullers of Buchan is a testament to the raw beauty and untamed wilderness of Scotland's coastline.Exploring the Bullers is an adventure in itself, with narrow paths leading down to the chasms below, offering intrepid adventurers the chance to get up close and personal with this geological marvel. However, caution is advised, as the cliffs can be treacherous, especially during inclement weather.Whether you're a geology enthusiast, a birdwatcher, or simply someone seeking solace in nature's embrace, the Bullers of Buchan offers a truly unforgettable experience. It's a place where time seems to stand still, and the majesty of the natural world takes center stage, leaving visitors with memories that will last a lifetime.

An easy hiking trail with an incredible view. Some passages can be dangerous, but you don’t have to walk them
Lukas Schuppel — Google review
We visited in early June and there were a lot of Razorbills, Guillemots and Kittiwakes. There were some - not many - puffins as well! We also spotted a small number of shags hatching and feeding their babies. It was magnificent and we were so pleased to see wildlife at this beautiful coastal trail.
Franklin Lau — Google review
A must see. You have to park about .5 miles away (off the hwy) and walk down the path but it’s well worth the visit. It’s the most beautiful views. Be very careful as the cliffs are right next to the walking trail. Also, there are private homes right by the trail so it’s best to be respectful since you are walking through someone’s yard area. I’d highly recommend the visit though.
Amber Helms — Google review
What a fantastic coastal attraction. Great for the young and fit but not so easy for the elderly or disabled. Much care and attention needed. Advise assistance when walking. Views are spectacular. Best explanation is the photographic proof of how beautiful it is. Signposted off main road. It is not difficult to get to by car.
Dennis Smalley — Google review
Well worth the visit, we came here for a walk and it blew us all away. You can walk the very narrow sections joining the cliffs, you are literally taking your life in your hands, though we all did it and it was great.

The food here is spectacular and adventurous. Predominantly seafood with one beef and one vegan option as well as dinner specials, the menu is limited but, in my opinion, with good reason. Each meal is prepared with great care and attention to every detail so that all foods compliment and complete each other. An excellent combination of flavors that your taste buds will happily dance in! I tried things I never expected to and liked them! Another surprise! I will definitely be going again!

Stopped over last minute for lunch with some friends, food was delicious and the oysters were fantastic! Service was lovely and professional. Will definitely be back

Given that I'd heard and read that this place was "the place to eat", I thought we'd give it a go. The food was well prepared and presented, but nothing outstanding. The atmosphere was ok (bearing in mind this was mid-pandemic that's an achievement) and the staff were friendly enough. I wouldn't say my experience here was a 'wow', but it's certainly a place to try.

We went for my husbands Birthday on 22nd June 2023 and had such a lovely meal. We live locally and feel very lucky to have such a good seafood restaurant on our doorstep. The menu isn’t huge but it is quality. Lovely choice of wines and the service and the staff were spot on. Unlike the service we had in another (and rated locally) sea food restaurant a few miles down the coast last year. It was much appreciated to be back in a restaurant that got it right. Neither are inexpensive restaurants but the Tolbooth gives you a whole experience not just nice food for your money, and that’s what we are looking for. Not stuffy but class. The interior and the ambience are warm and welcoming. We will definitely be back. Thank you to the owners and everyone who was working that night. You topped off the lovely day we had for my husbands birthday. Sitting at the beautiful harbour for an hour before we came up into the restaurant made us appreciate how lucky we are to have moved to this beautiful town x

Went on an itison voucher. Pretty place and great location by the harbour. I enjoyed the meal and would go again. All of the food was tasty but felt there could been a couple of tweaks to a couple of courses to push up to 5 stars. The fish dish was delicious but very much tasted of the risotto, I couldn't work out what the hard vegetable at side of plate added. The main was lovely, could been a little hotter, and dessert was star of show. The wine we had was excellent. We had the 500ml red and white. The white was a great discovery. For tasting menu I am used to having dishes explained, that didn't happen at all, though the wine server and guy at bar were very friendly and knowledgeable and even gave us a tasting of a liquor because i asked what it was. Would go again.

Great food, relatively good service however the prices are quite something for the size of food you get. We are not big people and after a 2 course meal and a pudding, we've left the place feeling still quite hungry Fine dining I agree but you have to also be realistic that you need to leave feeling full after spending that amount of money on food Would think twice to revisit

Very surprising! Great food and good service, very light. Breath of fresh air from all the fried pub food in the area :) and good vegan options too!

The building itself is historic, and the museum is really the only reason you should step foot inside. The restaurant itself - food was good, albeit smaller portions, so not a place to go if you’re really hungry. The server was awful, which is why the 1 star rating. When you enter, the chef calls out a quick hello as you walk past the kitchen service window, a lovely welcome. However, our server was Gus, and he was one of the rudest servers I’ve ever encountered. We weren’t expecting red carpet treatment, but being kind to your guests shouldn’t be the exception. Both my husband and I worked in the service industry for years. We know good service, and this was not it. Gus began our dining experience by belittling us when we asked for a jug of tap water for the table, bringing us a bottle of flat water instead and “correcting” us for not being clear about what we ordered. How does one misunderstand a table asking for a jug of tap water? He then proceeded to take our drinks menu away before we’d had a chance to consider what we were eating before ordering a beverage. When we’d entered the restaurant a customer coming out told us they had enjoyed the sea bass on special. When my husband inquired, Gus told him “I would have told you if we had any”. How about just saying there was none left and leaving it at that? The meal was full of insulting remarks, but the final insult came when Gus came to collect our dishes after the meal and commented that he’d never seen people clean their plates as well as we had, to which my parents responded that they hadn’t licked the plates. My husband then shot back “I guess most people don’t finish their food here”. There was no way in hell we were staying for dessert. I’d rather have a past-due Kit Kat from the petrol station that’s been sat on for 8 hours in the car than suffer through dessert at this place. The food was good, but not nearly good enough to make up for the deplorable way we were treated by this server. I can’t tell you when I’ve felt so unwelcome or belittled in a restaurant. Perhaps because we were dressed comfortably for a long drive and arrived slightly rumpled that we were treated with such disdain. If you enjoy a heaping pile of snobbery with your meal, go. If you prefer to feel welcome, and that your custom is valued, go somewhere else. Like, ANYWHERE else in the bay would have been better than this place.

Food was amazing, only wee niggle was not enough sauce with the main course but it was delicious. Service was very attentive but would say we felt a little bit rushed but again, probably because the the great service shown. Still a little strange that they said pay by card only but didn’t have any opportunity to leave a service tip!

We had a really nice night, service was excellent and the drinks delicious. We were there on a cold Wednesday night so it was very quiet. We all enjoyed our food but I found mine a little bit bland, it may have been what I ordered.

We visited at Tolbooth Seafood Restaurant at the end of a lovely trip around Scotland and it was the perfect way to end the visit. The restaurant is beautifully set out, with a clean, inviting atmosphere that is made even better by the welcoming and friendly staff. All of the staff we encountered were lovely and managed to stay attentive and helpful without being overbearing. For my starter I had the mussels which were nothing short of delicious. The mussels themselves were perfectly cooked and presented and the sauce was absolutely amazing! I would recommend this starter to a seafood lover. For my main I chose the lemon sole which comes with crayfish, capers, broccoli and potatoes. It was gorgeous and extremely tasty. We were thrilled with our meal and we hope to visit Tolbooth again very soon. Thankyou!

The fabulous fish restaurant with its delectable seafood offerings was fabulous. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was artful. The attentive staff and inviting atmosphere elevated the lunch experience, making it a standout choice for those craving a top-notch seafood meal.

Went here for lunch on a cold wet May day (will it ever get nice), and glad we did. I had the smoked haddock chowder which was lovely and thick and very fishy. Partner had the Coronation Scallops which I tried and we both agreed were delicous. Partner then had the sea bass which again was well cooked and presented. I had the halibut, which to be honest was very nice, but needed something to lift it, just felt a little bland, although again it was well cooked and presented. I finnished off with the rhubarb and custard crumble. Not quite what you expect as the custard was set with the rhubarb placed on it with the crumble sprinkled on top. Now this is not the traditional way of doing it but it was absolutely gorgeuos. The rhubarb especialy was not cooked to a mush, but remained as cut whilst still being soft meaning it retained all its flavour. Soooooo good. We found the staff very friendly, especialy the young lad who chatted away quite happily, especialy about the cider I had which was one I had never heard off but I think I'm addicted to. Would deffinately go back.

Food & Drink
Glen Garioch Distillery, situated in eastern Scotland, offers tours from Monday to Saturday for guests to experience the process of creating their award-winning single malt whisky. During the Founders Tour, attendees learn about the production process and have the opportunity to bottle their whisky. The distillery is known for its welcoming staff and lovely visitor center, where guests can enjoy tastings at the end of their tour.
Fantastic distillery nestled in the village of Old Meldrum. Has that authentic feel despite utilising modern equipment in pursuit of reduction in energy use and climate impact. Access is straight forward and the small car park sits next to the visitor centre and shop. Really liked the shop items on sale from branded to the essentials of glasses and whiskey. The tour guide was excellent and covered all the facts and figures you'd expect. Also pointed out all the unique elements of the buildings and ensured we got a look at an active maltings floor. Our guide Emma, could have breezed past that but didn't and that was 5 stars right there. Still house and processing equipment are ultra modern internally. But again the explanation of why, makes you appreciate the efforts taken to reduce environmental impact. Whiskey tasting of 3 Glen Garioch was good, the drivers drams to take away is so innovative. Was lucky enough to bottle my own 16 year old single cask, again very slick service from Emma and reasonable cost. An excellent experience, highly recommend a visit and Emma as a guide

Worth doing the tour. Our guide was interesting and funny. Make sure you check when the distillery is producing as it is much more interesting to see the production process as it happens. Be prepared for a strong smell!

Fantastic tour. Cat was wonderful. I had met her the evening before at the local whisky shop, and she recommended the tour. We thoroughly enjoyed all of it, as she included humor with a highly informative explanation of how all the processes worked. Our favorite is the 12-year-old, and we have already encouraged our local retailer to bring it in!

Perfect place for a tour! The distillery is small but there’s enough information to keep you interested, and the whisky tasting at the end is delicious. I loved the little bottles for the driver to take home.

First of all- book in advance in Summer season as it can be very busy, 2nd - tours are for adults only. Visitors center is really nice with well informed and helpful staff always happy to share info and experience. We got few bottles of they Renaissance Whisky ( after tasting it first) and it seems to be well spent £££.

I wanted to share with you the wonderful experience my family and I had during our recent tour of Glen Garioch Distillery last weekend. Our tour guide, Cat, was not only highly knowledgeable about the whisky-making process but also shared fascinating insights into the local area. Whether you live nearby or are from farther afield, I highly recommend this tour to everyone. The whisky tasting at the end was a delightful way to cap off the experience. Glen Garioch Distillery truly is a superb gem right on our doorstep. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to explore it for yourself.

Bonobo Cafe is a vegan-friendly cafe in Aberdeen that offers a range of delicious dishes. It is owned and operated by a workers' cooperative, making it environmentally friendly and socially responsible. The cafe has an outdoor terrace perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or brunch, and its interior is decorated with quirky art pieces.
7 stars A wonderful quaint and bohemian style vegan cafe, with an in-house guest-Mickey the Cat. He’s simple adorable gentle and so cute. Best addition to the cafe. The upstairs garden patio is an eclectic collection of hand painted wall murals beautifully decorated artefacts and intricately printed cloth canopies. Giving the whole place a cosy warm and comfortable atmosphere. Surrounded by lots of plants the whole place is an oasis in the heart of the city. Wonderful selection of teas coffees and healthy drinks and good food and desserts too. Would love to come back again. Hope they stay the same if we ever return to Aberdeen 🥰

This food is so so so delicious and honestly so pretty. A lot of the seating is outside but there are heat lamps and somehow it smells really good out there too. There is a resident cat who is phenomenal. The waitstaff is truly wonderful. You pay at the table right when you order and all of the food is so good. Even if you aren't vegan this is just top tier food period.

A very good cafe that serves vegan food and desserts. Throughout the years, I’ve tried a lot of items on their menu and none has ever disappointed me. I really like that they have different drinks of the day and it’s nice that the outside seating area is so comfy. You’ll even get to see Mickey the cat!
Mochi Lover — Google review
The interiors are stunning. Feels refreshing. The little cat that they have is really adorable. They have good food, all vegan, however, the options are quite limited. I understand that happens when you visit a vegan place, but perhaps having options for Beyond Meat, No Chicken burgers etc. would really add more to the menu. The staff are lovely, but on one of my visits I had to wait for 10-15 minutes just to be waited on. Could have been a one time thing. But this is definitely a lovely cafe to go for brunch. Do visit if you're looking for a Gram-worthy cafe in Aberdeen.

Great cozy place. Loved the garden upstairs that comes with a friendly cat. There is lots of green and flowers outside which is great for a sunny and not so sunny day. Prices are reasonably priced, food servings were good and very friendly staff. Definitely coming back soon.

Food was tasty and filling. Service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing with some great music being played. I like the decor... lots of plants... brightly painted chairs.
Dominique Payne — Google review
It's a nice cafe which is completely vegan. There's an upstairs seating area as well as an outdoor seating area which is nice on sunny days. However there's not a lot seats so can sometimes struggle for a table, but you can take away so there's that option too. Food is good and reasonably priced. I'd suggest going early in the day as they can sell out of options quite quickly, so might not get what you want.

We started off our visit in Aberdeen by going here - we were very warmly welcomed, all hummus questions promptly answered by Debbie (who we later saw saving a snail by placing it delicately on a leaf), and the food was delicious! The roof garden was also so so so beautiful - such a nice place to sit we didn't want to leave! It was so good that we came back later in the day for a takeaway cake and coffee - again, excellent. Next time we're in Aberdeen we'll come here for sure! x

The Silver Darling is a seafood restaurant in the former Custom's House at Aberdeen Harbour with lovely views of the coast. The French-inspired menu changes seasonally, but for some of the highest quality seafood in Scotland, you can't go wrong with a meal here.
Absolutely delicious haddock and chips and a delightful selection of non alcoholic mocktails. Stunning views from every window and lovely staff serving the diners. This was my first visit, on the recommendation of a regular diner, and I will certainly revisit the restaurant whenever I am in Aberdeen

Classic top-notch restaurant. The views are great, saw dolphins swimming into the harbour during the meal. Atmosphere is relaxed. Seating, dinnerware, and interior all very well considered. The food was delicious. Had scallops with edamame and pork belly, it had just the right amount of everything. Same goes for the main of halibut with crab crust. The celeriac, crab emulsion, and halibut compliment one another and the crispy kale was the cherry on top that tied the whole dish together. Never thought I'd say that about kale! Soft drink, starter, and main for £50. Bargain for the quality of the experience.

Absolutely fantastic. We arrived an hour early to our reservation as we had finished in town. I had tried to phone but it was engaged so we chanced it being OK. It was absolutely no bother and we were seated straight away. The food was devine. Such a lovely environment and the staff were excellent. Such knowledgeable staff that were just the right amount of attentive. Great experience and CAN. NOT. WAIT. to go back and have that linguine again. Would recommend to everyone!

Lovely dinner with my daughter & granddaughter after vegas circus. Will be back some night I’m not driving & have lobster with wine. We opted for haddock and scampi for quickness. Kids fish goujons & white choc ice cream went down very well for my 22 month old granddaughter.

Been here during my holidays in Aberdeen for a family lunch. We has scallops and fish soup as starter and 2 whole seabass as main while my little one had a margherita with chips. I eat excellent quality of fish prepared and presented very well. My only thumb down was for the margherita as it looks more like a quiche and my doughter had only a bite, but I don t want to judge this as we are italian and pizza for us is something else. A part this I can say that in 10years in UK this is the first time I ve had a fish so delicious. The restaurant is well presented and the location In the harbour is amazing! That s I big plus to me ➕️ I will defitenely come back in case I ll be around!

Overpriced and disappointing, popular restaurant resting on their laurels. I've been there three times. This time we ordered a starter and the full house platter for 75£ and it was simply disappointing, looks abundant by description on the menu but turns out half of the platter is shell, ice, and sauces we didnt use. The icy water was getting into our salmon. The starter was tiny, cold, and the "gazpacho" it was supposed to have was finely diced raw veg - like one tablespoon of it. Not what you expect. You do end up asking what you're paying for. The worst thing is that the waitress said she "can do nothing about the food"? She took our wine off the bill but could do nothing about the food? Does it mean you can't get a refund if there is a problem with the food? If so, this is very wrong and the owner needs to take responsibility. It's the worst when restaurants like this get used to being fully booked and lose focus on their service. I won't be back.

Heading through the dock area it's a real treat to head to The Silver Darling. With views out over the water it's a tranquil venue. On a bit of a blustery day a haven to enjoy the excellent seafood (and likely excellent non seafood options). Tended to by friendly staff who don't make your experience feel rushed it's a relaxed experience. Be sure to book at peak times. Worth a visit if you like your seafood!

Food was decent, but far from exceptional, service relatively quick, but waitress couldn't care less, this appeared to contrast some other servers taking good care of other customers; it's going to be a while before we're back.

Nice place to go for lunch or dinner. It's near to the coast so outside sceneries is awesome. Food options are mostly fish which you must try along with some other options for meat. Very less options for veg. Service is good.

Great seafood restaurant in Fittie with fab views from the upstairs restaurant over the river entrance to watch all the ships. Starters and mains were superb, especially the scallops and sea trout. Desserts looked good but tasted just ok - chocolate tart felt like it had spent too long in the fridge. Staff were friendly and wine choices were good.

The Moonfish Café is a stylish, modern seafood restaurant with an eclectic menu. It has received acclaim from the Michelin Guide and was a finalist in the Observer Food Monthly Awards. The kitchen's constantly changing innovative menu features fish dishes such as grilled hake and steamed mussels, as well as desserts such as sweet mumbo jumbo pies.

Such a friendly welcome and despite having no reservation and it was clearly very busy, they managed to squeeze us in for the hour we needed to enjoy what I have to say was one of the nicest plates of food. I had the hake. Every mouthful was delicious. My friend had the halibut which she also really enjoyed. She ordered a dessert which she loved as much as the excellent first course. The service was superb and the decor and ambience here was very good. We'd been recommended to come here by an extremely informative lady working at the maritime museum, who clearly knew what she was talking about!

We went in for the 4 course taster menu through itison. £75 well spent. The food was fantastic, each course was superb, the paired cocktail was nice too. The staff were lovely, very friendly and attentive but no over bearing. The only down side was it could have been warmer in the restaurant.... that said it was probably about 0°C outside so its understandable

Magnificent. One of my favourite restaurants in Aberdeen. I had preconceptions before going that the food would be tiny portions and I hoped it wouldn't be overrated. Hidden gem off the beaten track which we knew about but never got around to going. We made a reservation mid week (Wed) for lunch, which wasn't a busy time when we arrived. Simple and very nice decor with tables set out for around 34 people. We opted to share the small plate of Grilled Flatbread Mussels , Wild Garlic Butter and our large plates were Hake Motoyaki, Aubergine, Miso Glaze, Coriander & Roasted Cod, Jersey Royals, Grilled Onions, Beurre Blanc with no dessert on this occasion. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and presented beautifully. I highly recommend this wee gem and hopefully return to sample the food in a dinner setting on our next visit. Thank you!

Delightful lunch here at Moonfish. For many years this was a regular lunchtime spot when I worked in Aberdeen Town Centre and I missed it. The food is just as good, and the menu is as interesting as ever. The staff are great, easily and enthusiastically answer questions about the food and take an interest in what we think. This is a small busy place and making a reservation is recommended, the lunchtime helpings are just right for a midday meal. We enjoyed being here, but be aware it's a busy place which can be noisy. Also the booking site give very strict times for occupation of the table. I think we had 1 hour 45 minutes for a table of two - which is more than adequate. No idea if they allow longer in the evenings. Thanks to everyone at Moonfish, and a special thanks to the chef for creating such a great menu!

I read about this place on a few travel blogs, so my husband and I made reservations. I can truly say I've never eaten anything quite like it in the best way possible. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and we never felt like we were waiting for anything. Be sure to make a reservation, as it was full even in the off-season (early February). If you enjoy unique, flavorful dishes that are truly one of a kind, this is your restaurant.
