Basel Paper Mill

Mentioned on

Specialty Museums
Basel Paper Mill is a museum where you can learn about the printing and papermaking processes with working machinery. You can also try your hand at making a page of your own.
An amazing place! The workshops make the whole journal lots of fun and experience. In the end we got a piece of marbling “art” of our own and it was just amazing! We as adults had much fun and children would love this! We spent roughly 2-3 hours here. Be noted that the workshop ends at 1630. So it would be good to complete all parts earlier.

Pablo at the printing station went above and beyond to show me how all the old machines work. This amazing paper mill museum has 4 floors, each dedicated to the history of paper, writing, printing and book binding respectively. Not only are the exhibits informative, you get to see first hand the processes involved. The best part for me is the hands on activities. Making paper and printing are my 2 personal favorites. Highly recommend.
TC Zheng — Google review
One of the best museum experiences we’ve done. Lots of interactive activities for kids to do, and take home afterwards. Check what time these activities are offered before planning your visit. Loved it, highly recommended!
Me Le — Google review
Quaint, charming museum with interactive workshops to make paper, watermarbling, traditional letter writing and printmaking. Spent about 2 hours here. The surrounding area is also picturesque. Definitely recommend!

The best museum, ive ever seen!! Very much activities, many many history infos in a wonderful ambiente! The team is very friendly and the zivi a philosoph.
Stefanie Habighorst — Google review
We had a lovely time here. It was a bit crowded so we didn’t get to do a lot of the interactive activities. It was still fun to learn about paper making, though.
Chantel DePaepe — Google review
Very interactive museum, got several workshops, all for the price of ~7 euro/CHF. Overpriced giftshop, but that's not a problem when you get free paper. Worth it and can spend several hours in this place.
Leo Harnadi — Google review
We visited this museum with our 4-year-old son. It has activities for children, which was welcome. The museum itself is not too big, but informative, with quite a lot of items.
Olivier Bruchez — Google review
I made paper with my own hands, wrote on it with a fountain pen and sealed it in the old style. It was a wonderful experience
?afak Do?ukan Y?ld?zlar — Google review
Despite over charging from the internet price, I consider it to be one of the best places to visit in Basil. Very educational and extremely interactive and friendly. Highly recommended especially to families
Abdul Raheem Bawazeer — Google review
An amazing museum where you can not only learn about the subjects but also experience them. I have had great conversations with the people about the topics on display and their technical details. Time flew by and I have some great reminders at home to remind me of the museum. Go there, and expect to spend several hours there. They'll fly by.
Roel Baardman — Google review
Overall, excellent experience. Everyone was kind and the museum is very fun. There is something enjoyable for both adults and children. The floors are organized well, and have plenty of fun information and artifacts placed throughout. Each floor also has an interactive activity or demonstration which is a nice touch as well.

Very nice museum. Great facts about the first printings of Holy Scriptures ever. Thank you!
Lyubomyr Marynovych — Google review
A great presentation of an important part of the city’s history within the context of the development of printing in general. Hands on exhibits that kids will enjoy. A nice location right by the river, with a restaurant and gift shop.

We visited and used the BaselCard for discounted entry. The paper mill is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The staff are very helpful, informative, and bilingual. There are many interactive activities to do which are included in the ticket price, including making paper with cotton fibres, marbling paper, and binding a notebook. All excellent and good fun for all ages. I would recommend a visit!
Rebecca McIntosh — Google review
This is a wonderful museum in a very nicely restored historical building. The museum has exhibits and activities that are good for adults and children alike. The museum covers paper, writing, printing, and binding and it's separated thematically by floor. There is a elevator for those who can't do the stairs, but it's a little tight in there. You can also try your hand at paper making, working a press, calligraphy, and more. Really, a great place to visit, I wouldn't find unless you have at least two hours to spend inside. The gift shop is great, and next door is a nice cafe for before is after your visit.
Neil Hendrick — Google review
Really interesting museum that covers the birth of paper all the way to printing and binding books. It was very interactive and there were many volunteers helping with making paper, writing on a linotype making wax seals, most which you can take home.

Fine Arts Museum Basel

Mentioned on
Art museum
Museums
Basel’s Fine Arts Museum is one of the Swiss country’s most popular attractions and houses a vast collection of art dating back to the 1400s. The museum has been completely redeveloped in recent years, with a new modernist wing opening in 2016. There are guided tours available for an extra charge which include admission to the permanent collection.
An institution with a great history and an attachment to the city of Basel. Here you will find a fabulous collection in the main building as well as more recent works in the annex built a few years ago. The entrance can be made by the new or the old building and are connected between them thanks to a tunnel always invested by different works in the follow of the various exhibitions. One will appreciate here as much the quantity of art present as by the architecture of the buildings. A great place of life and culture for the city.
Sean Fabolous — Google review
Good museum to visit in the city. It is very big with nice temporary exhibitions throughout the year. The staff was also very helpful. Very nice if you're interested in art. However, if your time is limited in Basel, I would recommend you skip it.
Piers da Camino Soligo — Google review
The new building is like a massive prison, I don't know who designed it. But it's ignoring all its surroundings and the old part of the museum.
Luis Aquino — Google review
A wonderful collection of works shown as part of the permanent exhibition and great temporary exhibitions (the paintings on the top floor impressed me the most). I was also very impressed by the current temporary exhibition presenting Japanese woodcuts. I highly recommend visiting this museum!
Joanna Julia “Strzyga” Sokołowska — Google review
The art selection in this museum is huge and quite varied, so there's bound to be something for everyone's taste. The Basel Kunstmuseum was definitely a highlight of my trip to Basel!
Gino Rincon — Google review
Very big and spacious museum that had a really great exhibition focusing on Picasso and how his works had been influenced by El Greco - so the museum showed several stunning pieces. And put together in such a way that you could really see the inspiration in the works. The regular collection was also very nice but the building was a little hard to navigate for me so I'd recommend you to grab a layout map so you don't have to backtrack to make sure you didn't miss anything.
Martin Johansson — Google review
By far, the best art pieces of the Neubau are either anonymous, such as the fine and intricate texture covering a door seen in the stairway, and a wonderful fresco composed with green tiles seen in the bathroom, and the building itself designed by the tastefully inspired Christ & Gantenbein architects. Most of the rest is, at best, a collection of "things" that will also remind you about what is otherwise carelessly dumped in landfills around the world. If they only knew the value that some pieces of trash can reach in the fertile imagination that some of us have!
Zaid El-Hoiydi — Google review
Very large museum with lots of variety paintings. Found Renoir, Van Gogh and Degas among many others. The museum is so big that I couldn't finish everything in one go. Definetly recommend it. Additionally, you can get 50% off price ticket with the Basel card.
Diogo Branco — Google review
Such a nice place, cannot miss it if you are in Basel! We’ve been to “Louise Bourgeois x Jenny Holzer” exhibition, something extraordinary! Definitely recommend to see it! 😊
Olga Volkova — Google review
I love the art in there, but there is almost no information available about the paintings, comparing to the Dutch museums. I expected a bit of text beside each painting and a more comprehensive description on the audio guide.
Mohammad-Ali A'R?BI — Google review
Great art museum. Very big and many famous art pieces. On certain days you can also get in free of charge.
Son Tung Pham — Google review
One of my favourite museums in Europe. You have collections from 15th to 19th century and after 1950. It’s a joy for your eyes and your soul. They opened as well a building annex on contemporary and modern art. Every time I enter this place is a pleasure. 🙏 Enjoy
Andrea Gianotti — Google review
WIFI Signal low? One of the best fine art museums I have been in this region. Indeed impressive with many artworks. I also love the architectural aspect of this museum with a combination of new and old buildings. People working here were all friendly. The only problem I found was its Wifi (KMB Public) had very bad coverage, and there was no and very weak signal in more than half of the building area. The Internet coverage is extremely important because we, visitors, are using its online audio guide, and without it, it is almost impossible to understand many of its artworks. They should seriously improve on its Wifi problem.
Eric J — Google review
I loved the museum. My visit was a bit special, taking into account that I was with my 3 year old son. It was an amazing experience! The location is super easy to get to by train, the personnel was very friendly and the exposition itself was very interesting, but also easy to see with a little kid. My favorite hall was the Japanese woodblock prints. Very highly recommended, also with kids :)
Esfir Brod — Google review
The Kunstmuseum hosts a world class collection and exhibitions in three beautiful buildings, with the contemporary art wing being a short walk east along the Rhine It is very proud of its long association with Jasper Johns and Joseph Beuys, who both feature heavily in the modern collection. It also has a huge number of Hans Holbein works which are very interesting to see all together. You need to pay more for special exhibitions. The ticket is rather expensive compared to world class institutions in other countries. You do have access to all three Kunstmuseum sites, but there is way too much art to see to get through it all in one day. But you can get 50% off with a Basel card which is given to tourists who pay the city tax. They have lockers for storing your coats and bags in which are free. The Bistro serves very nice food including good vegetarian offerings.
Victoria Pearson — Google review
A place to visit several times, not just in one day. In each floor, every period has so many artists and so many rooms that you really need time to enjoy these pieces of art works. For me it was a great experience and would like to go back. The staff is helpful and pozitive. As a guest in every hotel you get half price in each museum and public transportation for free. Enjoy Switzerland!
Blerta Meta — Google review
Beautiful museum to visit and and you can spend hours looking at the art pieces around. In fact if you come in the hour before closing the entry might actually be free.
Ajay Bansal — Google review
A really fabulous museum of Art. It has a wonderful collection going back to the renaissance and right up to the present day. It is presented in three different buildings, two linked and one a short distance away. All the famous artists are represented (Monet, Picasso, Mondrian, Rothko, Gauguin…). There are great shops and a lovely cafe in the court of the main building. There are far fewer people than in equivalent museums in London or Paris. We got in for free with our Swiss Rail Passes.
Andy Reynolds — Google review
They had art of a guy with rats! 10/10. No but seriously inspired architecture, lovely museum atmosphere and a great place to visit. The only thing i couldn't understand is why they hosted the neon light art exhibition of Dan Flavin in the rooms with the most natural lighting.
Ruben SH — Google review
The ticket is half priced with Basel Card that was provided by the hotel for every hotel guest. Lockers and toilets are also available at the entrance and every floors. The museum is big, and houses many magnificent art works. There was not much crowd on a Saturday afternoon so it was a great and relaxing experience during the museum tour.

Delicious restaurant. Has very nice terrace. Great Mediterranean atmosphere. Very friendly and attentive staff. Great lunch menu and normalm plates looked very nice as well. In general a great restaurant.

My favourite restaurant in Basel! The redfish with celery mashed potatoes was divine! Fish was delicious and made to perfection and the celery addition to the mash was great, made the texture just perfect. The atmosphere is amazing, our table was overlooking the river and outside! Couldn't really ask for me!

Had a lunch special, was good. If you get the good seats on the terrace, the view is nicer. If not the view is very restricted.

Great location to see the river view 👍🏻 Affordable lunch menu option 👍🏻👍🏻
Rina Feast (That’s How We Feast) — Google review
Great location in front of the Rhine river although the terrace is rather small. Been few times. Staff is nice and considerate although this last time we waited 30min for our meal, which I think is a bit too much for lunch. Food is ok without being spectacular, but fresh. Overpriced, 48 quid for a single meal with a coke.
Alexandre Roty — Google review
Great location with outside terras with good view on the river. We’ve had a good main with deer and red Italian wine. Both recommended. We were in good company and service. Thank you
Wouter Bruggers — Google review
Superior quality (I would say Michelin-Star grade), exceeding our expectations. What was also fascinating was the local beer and high quality Italian wines.
Nasser GHOSEIRI — Google review
Beautiful restaurant along the Rhine. Very nice ambiance although a bit noisy. I had the prawns and tomato risotto which was good but not great. Service was very good. Strange thing that in Switzerland with all its wonderful dairy products never offer you butter for its bread. Overall a very nice restaurant.

Basler Münster

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Basel Minster is a famous Protestant Gothic style church with twin spires and a tiled roof built in the 9th century. It is located on Munsterhugel, the highest point in Basel, and is easily spotted by its prominent spires and brightly patterned roof tiles.
One of the most iconic landmark in Basel that you have to see. If you are brave enough to climb to the top of the tower, you will be rewarded by the breathtaking view of the city across the Rhine. And if you look further, you can even see across the French and German country border. Even if you don't have the strength to climb atop of it's tower, the cathedral has an ornate interior as well as a monastery with courtyard right next to the cathedral.

One of the most beautiful churches i have ever seen. Loved the painted glass and the columns, the ceiling and arches. The entrance is free but if you want to go up to the tower you have to pay 6 CHF. And you will want to go to one of the towers, because the view to the river and the city is breathtaking. I never miss this part anywhere, and now i wasn't dissapointed. You will not regret it.
Gabi Sarbu — Google review
Hey, the tower is an absolute must-visit! The views are absolutely jaw-dropping, giving you the perfect overview of the city. Plus, the ticket prices are a steal compared to other towers in Europe. But hey, here's a tip: don't tackle the climb solo. Some parts of the tower can get pretty spooky with darkness, and those stairs? They're high and narrow, like something out of a medieval adventure! So grab a buddy you trust and make a day of it. Exploring the tower will easily fill up an hour of your time, but remember, it shuts down at 4 pm sharp. So get there early to soak in all the views and enjoy the breeze!

Quiet place full of history. The big walls from brick keep secrets of the centuries. Big yard with monuments to the victims of past tragedies. U can walk around and feel how deep and high is this monster of faith that'll stand here for decades more.

Nice and peaceful cathedral. What caught my attention was the amazingly colorful and vibrant stained glass windows. Cathedral itself is big. I would suggest to take a walk around and outdoors as well. At backside relaxing views of rhine and bridges on either side.

A very large square surrounded by extremely beautiful and ancient houses. The church in the square is huge and very beautiful. The view of the city is unique. A must see place if you are in town.

Beautiful cathedral. We went in the day for a tour and returned in the evening for an accomplished organ recital. There is a concert schedule and I highly recommend checking to see if you can catch a performance when visiting the city.
Richard Belcher — Google review
Fascinating gothic style cathedral dating back to the 9th century with rich religious and political history. The view of the city of Basel along the river Rhine is stunning from the top viewing platform. I recommend taking a guided walking tour of Basel like us which covered almost all the attractions including the cathedral with interesting history of the city.
Vinitha — Google review
Loved their NYE service. Wholesome and emotional. Some people were unfriendly, but that is not the Minster’s fault, it however left a stain on the experience. The building was impressive nonetheless, and extremely clean especially for how packed it was. Really beautiful place, definitely worth seeing.

One of the most beautiful and interesting historical places to see in central Europe. Please go to the crypt and wait for the show, it's amazing! The show is played in 3 languages: English, German and French, each at different time. You'll see information about it before the entrance to the crypt.

Basel Minster is a free to enter church located at the heart of the city. It's also the location of the Basel Autumn festival and Christmas markets. It's a stunning Gothic cathedral, stands as an architectural marvel. You can buy tickets to go up the cathedral's tower to experience panoramic views of Basel and the Rhine River. Its timeless beauty and cultural significance make it a jewel in Switzerland's heritage and a true testament to Gothic architecture's grandeur.
Sanka Illangakoon — Google review
So beautiful, big and well maintained. You can freely walk all around inside the church. Don't miss to go up on the towers, it's a very great experience. It costs only 6chf. It has a stunning view of the City of Basel.

Beautiful cathedral. It was closed when I got there, I was hoping to attend the evening prayer session, as I saw on the website. It didn’t happen maybe because of an outdoor cinema event. At the back of the cathedral you can see the nice view of Basel and Rhine River

Basel Monastery is located in Basel, Switzerland and is one of the city's major tourist attractions. The monastery is on the Swiss national heritage list. The monastery, which was originally built for the Catholic Church, was transferred to the Protestant Church after the Reformation. The building, which was influenced by Romanex architecture and Gothic architecture between 1019 and 1500, was destroyed in the 1356 Basel Earthquake and was rebuilt by Johannes Gmünd, the architect of the Freiburg Monastery, and completed by Ulrich Ensingen in 1421. The south tower was completed by Hans von Nußdorf in 1500. When you go to Basel, you should definitely see this place and the Palatinate (Palatinate) Viewing Platform next to it.

Tierpark Lange Erlen is a zoo located in Basel, Switzerland. It is home to a variety of animals that live in their natural habitats, including deer, pigs, peacocks and other birds. The park also has a playground and restaurant for visitors to enjoy.
It is my favorite place to walk, next to the river, beautiful routes for you and your pet, clean place, you have a piece of nature to escape the city, free entry to see the animals, such as bison, horses, etc. 100% recommended for the family, to go with children or with their pets

I really liked the large ponds for the ducks and geese, very pretty! Most enclosures seem fairly big in relation to the type of animal that’s in it. The entry is free and the whole area is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, but watch out for the potholes! There’s a lot of parking space for bikes outside of the park but according to the signs you can take your bike inside as long as you push it.

We went to this place as a short stop for lunch in Basel. Was amazed that the zoo was free of charge. Even though the zoo is not the best we have seen but it is still worthwhile to spend an hour with children and then head to the nice playground. Spent more than 2 hours there.
Boon Keng — Google review
Been there few times and if you got young kids, it’s a no-brainer. First thing first it’s free which is very rare in the area; there a small paying parking lot though. There is also a restaurant, a playground and a carrousel. But the most exciting part is obviously the range of animals : deers, ducks, wild boars, horses, donkeys, birds, monkeys, bisons and so on… Can be busy but it’s better to go early to avoid the crowd and actually enjoy the wildlife!

Free zoo working on donations, good place for a daily walk. Animals seem to be treated really good and have their space and quiet not parading for the visitors. Place is working on the donations from visitors and is really tidy and well kept. This is a place i would bring my kids to. There is alot of history here as well and it is documented around the place.

The best lunch I’ve had in Europe! Lots of natural light, spacious seating, elegant and modern cafe atmosphere with restaurant-level food choices, friendly services and affordable price(by weight). Highly recommended to anyone seeking for a place to study, work, have a gathering, or date!

Vegan friendly... Everything is explained in eng too and looks so delicious Great concept, A bit too pricey (for me at least) Made a take away, payed 32CHF The reddish spread recommended and the peas, hummus U cant put everything in 2 plastic plates even if you are eating with your eyes

Great Tibits! I’ve visited a few Tibits restaurants on multiple occasions and I’ve always left the store satisfied. Food is good and service is friendly and efficient. Perhaps not an unforgettable experience but the quality/price ratio is really good. This particular Tibits is pretty big and spacious with lots of seats upstairs which is really nice. The premises look modern and the atmosphere is good. I would certainly recommend Tibits and I will definitely be back.

The place, the food and the people, everything is just awesome here. It's a buffet restaurant. Take whatever you want on a plate, weight it, pay for it and enjoy the food. The food spread is really good, with plenty of options for starters, main course and desserts. Even the drink menu is very weel spread with, soft drinks, hot beverages, beer, wine and more. Totally worth a visit.

Amazing vegetarian by weight place. Lot of different things to try, all of them with great flavor. They offer some daily soup options and lots of different salads and breaded veggie things, potato on all its forms, raclette, etc. it’s really good been there many times don’t know why I hadn’t made the review before. Btw the place is beautiful.

The prices for a buffet are absolutely ridiculous. Paying 80.- for two plates of veggies is stealing from clients. And they also try to trick you into tipping them with your card, beware. don’t waste your time and money.

Vegan food, but the variety is great and flavours were nice. Some of the roasted vegetables were quite salty (beetroot). But I live salty food, but I was expecting it to be more bland. Great fresh food! Loved the atmosphere and self-service process.

Very nice vegan (vegetarian) place with fantastic atmosphere. The foods were great and fresh with large selection. We liked this place so much, during our 4 days in Basel we visited it 2 times. That's true it's a little bit pricey but not so bad. It is recommended for vegans also, because the majority of the foods are vegan.

Guys, why can’t you program your card readers correctly and get rid of the annoying tipping function? This is Switzerland, are you trying to milk your customers for cash? I come to your restaurant often, but I am now starting to get annoyed, no other restaurant I go to does this. If you need more money, increase your prices, pay your staff accordingly and please stop this nonsense. Edit: Well, apparently I am not the only one complaining of the beginning tactics, they made it into the newspapers in Bern. And by the way the answer below is rather pathetic. Just acknowledge you just want to trick customers into paying you more, please update your prices and stop this very shameful tactic.

I simply cannot find any fault. The atmosphere is homely and unpretentious. There were families with kids, dogs, but it was quiet and amiable. Wonderful place, highly recommended! My plate of veal liver with Rötsi (a typical Swiss dish) was truly delicious! There was an option to have the liver cooked in either red wine or in butter and the chef - Marcus - made a small portion of the latter as well for me to try. I liked it even more🙂 Really nice of him, he even stopped by to ask whether I had enjoyed my meal. As a cherry on top of a cake, this place is very cozy, clean, and the waiters are extremely friendly. I hope I’ll come back soon for a full portion of the butter liver😀 Thank you guys, keep up great work! I would even give you six stars but there are only five available 🙂

Despite the drizzling winter weather in Basel, the delicious food and the warm-hearted employees in Bohrerhof restaurant simply make it a thousand times better. The gravy is smooth and buttery and matches perfectly with the home-made Rösti. Lovely restaurant that is loved by the local and tourists :) Reachable from the center via tram 6 - highly recommended!

We found this place on Tripadvisor and went with our group of 12. Despite a full restaurant they took us in and delivered as promised. Great fresh food, a passionate chef and uberfriendly staff! Don’t miss it!

We have been going to Bohrerhof in Allschwil for many years and have never ever had a bad experience. The food is delicious, the atmosphere among all the strangers when it's crowded is amazingly friendly - The staff are very nice, so good at what they do and nothing is too much for them. Markus and Katia work so hard and always have a nice word no matter how stressed it is. I wish we lived next door :-)

The dining experience at Brasserie Trois Rois in Hotel Trois Rois, Basel, was truly exceptional. We were there last Friday evening for a second time on visit from Florence, Italy. The atmosphere, food and service were exceptional as always. We tried a variety of dishes and each one was a journey of its own flavors and textures. Mr. Mahler always keeps the room energized through his passion and ever present smile and Francois B. Always provides the best of suggestions and service. So well done. We looked forward to dining with you again and you raised the bar! To next time🍷

We couldn't book the Cheval Blanc even weeks before we left the for Switzerland, so we go for the next best: The Brasserie Les Trois Rois. And it was insane! The food was just out of this world and the service was impeccable. Yes, it's pricy, but compared to some of the so-called Michelin star restaurants in SF, this is so much better. It is truly a French culinary experience every bite, from beginning to the end. The beef tartar was just amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant, and hope to get a seat at the Cheval Blanc in my future visits.

It is such a lovely experience to have tea time at Les Trois Rois. For sure, it ain't cheap, but staff is very attentive, you enjoy comfy chairs with a view over the Rhine and there is enough delicious food and unlimited tea to fill your belly. Go for it if you haven't done it yet!

Delightful. A good way to express how succulent the food was would be to tell you this : as the first dish had just been served and been described to us by the waitress, my friends and I resumed our discussion. I took the first bite, and instantly lost track of what the conversation was about. As a matter of fact, the three of us did, and the exchange that superseded it was something like: ".... Oh wow!" "I was about to say the same thing". As for the service, it was impeccable: ever present at the right time, professional yet friendly, that made the diner a truly enjoyable experience.

Lovely place, very tasty food and super delicate plates, we had to wait maybe a little too long for the main course but it was worth it.

An absolute gorgeous and mind blowing destination and probably it’s needless to say while you notice it being a part of a famous and historic 5-star hotel as well as having 3 Michelin stars rated. Very welcoming and friendly staffs. Scrumptious food options with nice variety. Nice and gorgeous interior. In the heart of the city, just by the river Rhine. Also, we will say decently affordable even after considering the star rated! Highly recommended 👍🏼

Wonderful selection and perfect service. I appreciate their accommodating my only English speaking ability. Hint: arrive early or late or make reservation for window seating. The caviar service is well done. The lamb was prepared perfectly. But the risotto is something you want to try here.

The best food that we had in Switzerland was here! I had the sole and my husband had the steak. The crepes were divine. We were able to sit by the window and watch the sunset.

Recently we celebrated my mom‘s birthday at the restaurant Brasserie Les Trois Rois who as usually did their best ensuring great experience! We got a personal greeting and a wonderful window table! As we were a group of 8, I was asked to inform regarding the menu choice in advance which I found a bit surprising at first (as I might change my mind) however when we arrived we were provided menu choice and the friendly personnel member explained that he would prefer to allow us to choose again which we greatly appreciated as we did indeed change our mind for certain dishes. Towards end of the dinner, my mom got a Birthday cake and a card signed by all members- so touching!! The restaurant is elegant and kids friendly - we enjoyed our visit (as usually) and coming back again soon!

There are different reasons why you might want to visit this upscale restaurant: you could come for the view of the Rhine River, for the French brasserie food or the service. You wouldn't be disappointed in any case. Great place for a romantic dinner. The dress code is business casual. Prices for main dishes are in the 50-60 CHF range. The restaurant is smoke- and cellphone free.

Asian restaurant
Lily's Maxim is a popular all-day Thai, Chinese and Indian restaurant in Kleinbasel. The menu features a mix of authentic Thai, Chinese and Indian dishes, from curries to noodles and soups. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices, making it perfect for diners looking for an affordable option with all the favourites covered.
Come here every time I am in Basel, sometimes 3 nights in a row. Food is really good, I always have the same dish because I love it so much. My colleagues have different dishes and they are a hit. Outside seating in summer is a bonus. We usually don't reserve but have always accommodated us even on busy evenings. Service is quick and friendly.

Nice place with very tasty food that appeals to me. For me, it was reasonably priced food that was really good. Friendly staff and fresh restaurant.
Stefan Magnusson — Google review
The most overpriced and ungenerous restaurant ever - they just added all the random dishes from like 5 different countries (Thai, Indian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese…..) with the worst quality possible. I had a Tom Kha Gai and ordered a large one which is supposed to always be eaten with rice, but we had to add on rice separately. Super dry rice and overly salty soup. Spring rolls are vegetarian but they just added a bunch of noodles into it. Super odd and tasted like nothing. We ordered a Pho bowl and it was probably the only thing okay to eat. And the sakura drink was nothing different of just bare water. Not forget to mention, the staff was so rude. Disappointing!

With so many Asian options in town, this is my least favourite one. I don't like to criticise but the food has not much flavour and not authentic at all. Nice location and terrace if it's what you are looking for.

Lilys is one of the favorite Asian Restaurant in Kleinbasel i have been visiting this place more than 10 years now last Friday we were here to have dinner the quality and taste of the food changes through the years as they change Kitchen Staff from time to time very noticeable to me like the Yakisoba, Pad Thai, Curries used to be soo great. We were here recently so i can say that my favorite dishes still taste the same the size of the fish gets smaller every year ( Favorite: Sea Bass, Chiang Mai, Chicken Satay, Chicken and Vegetable Fried Rice) i also like the Beers and Housemase Teas! The staffs are friendly, attentive. Service is fast the ambience is very casual, lighting could be better though. I will go back again to eat my favorites here!

This used to be great place. However I visited today (26th April 2022) and I was shocked by the quality of the food. My colleague ordered Red Thai curry with duck. The dish came with lots of curry but quite less duck meat. Also the duck meat was chewy and not cooked well. She returned the dish. I ordered the Tamil chicken curry. It used to be so delicious and today it was just yuck! So sour! The Mango lassi had canned mango paste thrown in. All in all real bad experience. I won't be going here anymore. The quality of food has just deteriorated significantly. It just doesn't match the price they are still charging.

I ate here yesterday with my friends. We chose Pad Thai Gai Poulet which tasted ok but not the best. We did also chose 4 different drinks and all 4 of them were really bad. Staffs were friendly :-) My rating: 3/5

Good Pan-Asia Food - which would deserves a way better service For a family visit 3 of us decided to follow a local tip to Lily’s in Basel. Its easy to reach via foot, quite central in the pedestrian zone, next to a cinema. Is accessible for wheelchairs which is nice. The restaurant design is quite open with minimalistic wood furniture and large tables and benches. This concept is sometimes interrupted with clear plastic screens based on the pandemic. There is an open kitchen in the corner where you can see the staff preparing the food. When you enter the restaurant, a staff member will check your vaccination reports and IDs and after that will lead you to the assigned space. And there the problem starts - let’s talk about the rude elephant in the room: The working staff member was very annoyed and rude, in his behaviour, manners and way of speaking to guests. As we recognized from the people before us - it was nothing personally. Just overall bad JuJu. So we took it, also as it was clear that we wouldn’t be served by him. Our direct server was quick with us and super friendly. But also, as I assume, quite new, ‘cause some of the workflows took some times or were missed (at least when the food arrives, we would also need cutlery (which I organized then after minutes of waiting on my own ). The whole time while we were at Lily’s the whole server crew was the biggest let down in the restaurant. Other servers were rude in requesting space and way - sorry that a wheelchair doesn’t disappear spontaneously into thin air. They made visibly fun of other guests, one couple was even asked to move from their assigned space to make room for other clients, and were then forgotten and no longer served. The guests next to us were so harshly ignored that at the end 3 different parties tried to get some attention from the staff, and we all didn’t succeed. There were some serious guests vs. staff bonding energies happening. And overall the main entree handler, who was running through the crowd, hissing and frowning like a Slytherin, at all guests and obviously very unhappy about the situation. This service overall made the whole visit cringeworthy - and distracted everyone from the quite good food. From beginning to the end, as we waited over 20 minutes after finishing up, just to be able to pay and leave. And all of that in an not overcrowded venue. The food and drinks are the complete opposite: The very creative menu offers amazing dishes for all different ways of tastes and way of nutrition (meat centered, vegetarian, vegan). From the fresh and self-made ice teas to the curries, dumplings and seasonal dishes - everything we consumed was great. Tasty, good seasoned and better as expected. The cooking crew should really demand the service team to step up their game a lot - then a recommendation could be given. And till then: order for take out and enjoy the good food at a more friendly place.

the taste was adapted to local tastes as like other asian food - salty, minimal spiciness and sour in tom yam soup. portion was huge for a single person.

The food was not nice there today. Burned pork belly. It was like chewing cinders from a fire. The green curry was also bad. A really weird taste off it. Standards have gone down. Will go elsewhere in future

The worst Tom Yam in my life! It was so sour- i could drink pure lime juice instead. Tastes the same. The duck was really dry and tasteless. Total disappointment…

Kohlmanns is a cosy restaurant with contemporary wooden furniture that's situated right at the Barfüsserplatz in Zürich. The menu features hearty Swiss and surprisingly regional dishes, such as the Flammkuchen, which was really enjoyed by our reviewer. The tea variety from Sirocco is also lovely.
Delicious Rösti and good drinks. Lovely service and nice atmosphere, overall great experience!

Beautiful restaurant with a really nice ambiance in the heart of Basel. The wait staff were extra cordial and pleasantly engaged us. The food was good but could definitely use some improvements here and there. My salad was absolutely delicious- fresh and crisp with just the right amount of dressing. My pork tenderloins were very good and I loved the apricot "stuffing". The gravy was not nearly enough and my potatoes should have been cooked for 8 minutes longer. Portion sizes are on the small side. Overall, a nice visit.

Staff is supper (pun intended) friendly, the food is great. We were there for dinner with colleagues, great service and the flammkuchen are especially nice. Not the ideal place for deep conversations as the trams are loud and very frequent, but overall it's highly recommended.

We went for a weekday lunch here - not too crowded, with a very nice ambiente and attentive staff. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. There is a variety of daily lunch specials and an otherwise interesting and diverse menu to choose from. I picked the day-special "Feuerkuchen" (~Flammkuchen), which are prepared fresh in a wood-burning oven. Can't complain, it was very tasty and certainly one of the better Flammkuchen I recently enjoyed. Overall, very reasonably priced given the central location and quality of food! Will be back!

The food was great but not very impressive. Definitely need to try their tapas-like starters and chicken on puff pastry. The bread that they serve at the beginning with the spread was very nice. Service was great and price of food was not bad (not expensive in Basel but very expensive when comparing it with the food in London, which is also expensive to some).

Great service was provided for our group of 15 people, thanks to Theo. Food is delicious. Although I would enjoy the atmosphere more if it had some music playing in the background.

I really liked Rösti with salmon. My partner ordered a chicken woot fries. Both were delicious. However the meal was small and I still felt hungry. Unfortunately dessert was not an option since they were closing the kitchen in the middle of the day. It's surprising for a foreigner that all restaurants in Switzerland are closed for a few hours during the day. I guess we should get used to it ;) Servers were nice and professional and the restaurant looks amazing inside.

I really liked the Flammkuchen, the dessert was not as good as I thought, not bad, just not super flavourful. The tea variety from Sirocco is really nice

It's unfortunate that a place where you can eat good food for fair prices (by Swiss standards) had such a mediocre staff. We waited for 15 minutes before we got asked what to drink and we waited more than 20 minutes just to pay our bill. The flamkuchen was really good, the cocktail we got (caiprinha) was not. The cocktail felt a bit rushed.
