Dorset

Dorset is a county in southwest England. It’s known for the Jurassic Coast, a long stretch on the English Channel where the cliffs contain many fossils, and rock formations show millions of years of geological history. Two prominent natural landmarks are Durdle Door, an ancient stone arch, and the layered cliffs at nearby Lulworth Cove. The towns of Poole, Weymouth and Swanage are popular for their sandy beaches.

Castles
Corfe Castle is a village and parish located in Dorset, England. It is home to an ancient castle with the same name that stands over a gap in the Purbeck Hills, which lies on the route from Wareham to Swanage. The castle was built by William the Conqueror more than 1,000 years ago and has a rich history embedded within its ruins. During the English Civil War, it was besieged by Cromwellian forces and fell after being betrayed from within.

Geologic Formations
Durdle Door is a famous and picturesque limestone arch located on Dorset's Jurassic Coast. This iconic landmark, made out of Portland stone, was formed over 150 million years ago due to geological movements and erosion. It is surrounded by beautiful bays that offer the perfect setting for swimming or taking memorable photographs during sunset. Access can be gained either by hiking the coast path from Lulworth Cove, which is approximately one mile away, or by driving down to its location.
This place is amazing. What an experience. There’s a car park. 4 hours is £5 & whole day (up to dusk or 9pm) is £10 - visited April 2022. Pay by card. There’s loads of spaces, and overflown car park too. We came at 10am & it was easy to park. Place got really busy around 12pm, Saturday sunny day. There’s loads of walking involved & to get to the beach, you have to walk down steep steps, just a pure guess around 50+. The beach is under the cliff, so you have to walk down the stairs. Taking a buggy can be a challenge, take a very light one you can hang on your shoulder. In the car park there are toilets, 1 ice cream van & 1 food stall. Prepare to queue or bring your own. There are no more toilets on the beach or no food, bring your own. It’s a stone beach, no sand. It gets busy but walk a bit further & it’s quiet. It’s a lovely experience. You can also walk from this car park to the Lulworth Cove, or drive, the ticket works for both car parks. Lulworth Cove has more facilities, more restaurants, shops & it’s quieter not as touristy, still very nice. Look at my review about it. You can also walk (instead of going to the beach) around the cliffs. Prepare good walking shoes & water. The hills are very steep but 6 year old child was able to walk it but you have to be fit, due to a high gradient of the hill. But the views are worth it, I would 100% recommend it.

Such a lovely place to visit, definitely coming back here again at some point! The car park is reasonably large with fair pricing, located near a restroom. We came here at around 5:30am for a beautiful sun rise. I didn’t stay around long enough to enjoy some food & drink but there are facilities for such. The beach is absolutely lovely. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the car park down to the beach. The path down is very steep so do be mindful of your step (and perhaps avoid on rainy days as it can be very slippery) but feel free to bring any pets along for the journey! We saw plenty of people bringing their dogs along for the trip. The sea is surprisingly clear and great to swim in. It is a small pebble beach with no sand unlike Bournemouth, and it can be very windy. The journey back up to the car park can also be quite a trek so do make sure to bring some walking shoes or a walking stick to help with any steep hills. Overall, it’s a lovely time to spend with friends or family that I would 100% recommend for a sweet day out! 🏖️

Beautiful iconic arch in Dorset which doesn't disappoint - views from the clifftop are stunning However the area does get very busy, so expect queues for toilets/food kiosks. If you prefer tourist sites less busy, don't go in August or on the Bank Holiday weekend, like me. 😉

Back for another visit. Last time here was September. A beautiful spot. Walked the trail to Butter Rock. Some good climbs. The scenery is fantastic

It's an amazing place to relax, best to visit in summer time ofcouse 😀 Beach is bit neat and clean. Best place to capture photos and videos if you are photoholic😀 It's good to carry some water and food if you want while going down side, as you can't get any options to buy once reached to sea shore area... Require good energy while climbing up back, so make sure you do save some energy for you to return back at top, yes you read it correctly.. in order to go to actual sea shore where you can see durdle door first you need to go down via some kind of stairs and then need to come back via same route. Its pebble beach and yes sunset is awesome here as well, so spend as much as time you can...

Fabulous place, very well maintained. Parking prices are reasonable for the area. We also had the benefit of seeing a seal sunbathing and the coastguard doing a search and rescue. Great day out 😀

Excellent tourist attraction. Paid parking facilities. Great for pets and children. Small ice cream and coffee van. Excellent hike. Had toilet facilities. Clean and well maintained. Has a small gift shop selling hats, fridge magnets and postcards.

Incredible peace of nature, worth a visit! We were lucky and had a great weather, therefore enjoyed a swim in a lovely pure water. I recommend to wear proper shoes, since it is a bit of a hike and can be slippery if it rains.

Such a beautiful place to enjoy the view of the see, mountains and hills, not easy mission to climb the hill but it's worthy. Plenty car park spaces £6 for 4 hours not bad. There's toilets and small shops for refreshments on reasonable price..

Stunning views and a great beach Can get very busy, but there is plenty of space for everyone. Whitenessed a proposal 💍today, so I guess it is a special place too. The walk up the cliff is pretty tough, but it is definitely worth it for the view. Car park is big and there are plenty of toilets, and it's nice and clean too. Overall, it's 100% a place worth seeing and enjoying, just be prepared to walk up and down 175 steps... 😅
Gabby Florean — Google review
Durdle Door is a beautiful and tranquil space to visit. There’s a car park close or enjoy a hike from Lulworth Cove. The stairs to the beach would be difficult for anyone with reduced physical mobility.

To be honest there is not much to see. It would harldy take 1.5 hours to get bored. If you stay in the caravan then it is good.

Must visit place in UK. Beautiful. It almost like trucking feeling from parking to beach. Worth of tired after reaching the spot. Please don't take stroller, pram, more weighing bags, it will be difficult to get them while going down. Ice-cream, coffee will be available, nothing more. No shops nearby, so carry eatable while going. Beautiful view. Not a sandy beach, it's some what pebble beach. Many photo spots. You can take good pics.

Amazing place. Just had to park on a double yellow and walk quite long distance but it was worth it. Not sure why parking was closed, it was evening before dusk. I would comeback, very beautiful sunset.
Tadas K — Google review
The place is great. Amaizing experience. The car park is not that expensive. The restroom is at the carpark. The beach is far from carpark and food option is very limited. I would recommend to bring your own food and water. The beach is amaizing and you can go into the water. But you will have to go down through stares. But you will get amaizing photos.

Breathtaking views. Prepare to walk and do a rocky trekking from the car park area to reach the viewing site. Do visit only on sunny days.
Abhirup Bose — Google review
A wonderful place to visit, especially during summer, on a sunny day! Be ready for the stony beach which will put some strain on your legs, and get refreshments on you! There are parking facilities up on the hill, and entrance is free for people.
Radu Rosca — Google review
Great place for a holiday. Plan to visit early in the day to enjoy the serenity of the beach. Good facilities for toilets and parking. The water is clean. Amazing view from the car park. The tiring walkway from the parking to the beach could be made better by stairs and footpaths and having railings on the steep edges and also on steps is required as safety measures.

Visited Durdle Door on the mesmerizing Jurassic Coast and it left me awe-struck! The limestone mountains, cliffs, and sparkling blue waters create a picture-perfect landscape. The iconic natural arch of Durdle Door is a photographer's dream! The breathtaking views from the top are worth the hike. However, be prepared for some steep paths. The beach below is perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. Just mind the tides! It's a must-visit spot for nature enthusiasts and anyone seeking stunning vistas. Highly recommend exploring the nearby coastal trails too. I'll cherish the memories of this unique place forever.

It's beautiful pebble beach and nice place to enjoy your summer, coast line is scenic. Nicely maintained. Almost 1 km trek after the parking, so old and kids should be prepared for that

This area is of outstanding natural beauty. One needs to visit to appreciate not just the Durdle door but the whole area. The beach, the surrounding cliffs. The photos will never be able to portray what a human eye can see.

It's an incredible scenic walk along the jurassic Coast, and really is breathtaking. There is a coffee hut, litter bins, and portable toilets at the top. Make sure to use them before you head down the steps to the beaches, both are steep and at points quite narrow. I'd recommend sturdy footwear!

First time visiting here this weekend. Jurassic coast is amazing in general and it wad fun to see the most photographed rock formation in England. Lovely beach and walk along the cliffs is perfect. Does get windy so come prepared.

## A Breathtaking Jurassic Journey: Durdle Door Walk Review The Durdle Door walk is more than just a hike; it's an exhilarating journey through time, sculpted by millions of years of history. Here's why it deserves a place on your travel bucket list: **Spectacular Views:** The moment you crest the hill and witness Durdle Door, a natural limestone arch framing the turquoise waters, is truly awe-inspiring. The dramatic coastline, dotted with hidden coves and jagged cliffs, unfolds before you, making every step a postcard-worthy scene. **Jurassic Delight:** Walk along the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the exposed layers of rock, remnants of a prehistoric past. **Variety and Challenge:** The trail offers a delightful mix of terrain. Lush green hills lead to dramatic cliff edges, with a well-maintained path and some steeper sections for a bit of a workout. **Perfect for All Ages:** This walk is suitable for most fitness levels. While there are some inclines, the well-marked path makes it manageable for families with children (be mindful with younger ones near cliff edges). **A Refreshing Reward:** After your invigorating walk, descend to Durdle Door beach and feel the soft sand between your toes. Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, or simply relax on the beach and soak up the beauty of the surroundings. **Tips for a Top Trip:** * Arrive early, especially during peak season, to secure parking and avoid crowds. * Wear sturdy shoes with good grip, as the path can be uneven in some places. * Pack sunscreen, water, and a hat, as there's limited shade on the trail. * Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the stunning views from the top of the cliffs. **Overall, the Durdle Door walk is a must-do for anyone visiting Dorset. Iconic rock in Dorset! It’s a bit of a walk down (around 10 mins) to see it for a picture. The car park is a bit pricey at £6 minimum. Still recommend the spend and the walk

Durdle Door is a truly breathtaking and heavenly destination, boasting an outstanding sea view and mesmerizing water color that leaves one in awe of its natural beauty. It's a place that evokes a sense of wonder at its creation. A visit promises an unforgettable day out, especially with its top-notch views of the sea. However, it's important to exercise caution and wear sturdy trekking shoes, as the stairs leading down to the beach may be slippery due to heavy foot traffic.

Durdle Door is a marvel of nature, offering stunning views that leave a lasting impression. The iconic limestone arch, framing the azure waters of the English Channel, is a sight to behold. The beach is pristine, perfect for a day of relaxation or a scenic stroll. The walk down is a bit steep, but the incredible views more than compensate for the effort. Ideal for photography, picnics, and simply soaking in the beauty of the Jurassic Coast. A visit to Durdle Door is a must for anyone seeking a serene and picturesque escape. It’s a true gem of the English coastline.

Amazing place, just beautiful. The walk down has amazing views with plenty of photo opportunities. The beach is stunning and the sea is so blue. Definitely a place to visit. We parked at the car park at Durdle Door, but it is also possible to park at Lulworth Cove (¡smugglers place) and walk along the coastal path. It is a very steep path, but not hard to do and I have two replacement knees. First class! 👌

The Durdle Door!! One of the best senic landscape in UK. View of English channel from here is outstanding. Make sure to get a parking by early start otherwise you will be in trouble. This is Must if you are visiting UK!!. Go & lost in blue sea view.

It was beautiful and stunning coastline and not so far from the carpark (we parked closer to Lulworth Cove) but the path was stone covered so it was a little slippery and not easy to walk up and come back especially after rain. The stairs to the beach in front of the Durdle Door was quite muddy and steps were not even so be careful. Some ppl were swimming!

Old Harry Rocks is a natural attraction with beautiful cliffside views of unique chalk formations that can be accessed by scenic walks. The area is part of the National Trust, and members can park for free. To reach the rocks, visitors can take a half-hour hike from Studland town centre, which offers stunning warm-up views of the white cliffs.
Well worth a visit, tremendous views, my only (small) gripe was the lack of any wifi or fast food outlet.

An amazing part of the coast with some fantastic viewpoints and a lovely worthwhile coastal walk. Parking at either car park is fine and reasonably priced with a walk of 25-40mins to the main feature. Plan to stay for a few hours and doing the coastal walk is well worth it!

Absolutely gorgeous and terribly dangerous outcrops. A real adrenaline rush, the kids loved it. Definitely worth seeing. There are well marked paths to the beach which is also beautiful. Studland is a beautiful village but very expensive. Swanage is a 10 minute drive so would recommend you eat there.

Old Harry Rocks, on the South coast of England, is a must-see gem. These striking chalk formations rise majestically from the sea, offering a breathtaking sight. The contrast between the white cliffs and the blue waters is simply stunning. Whether viewed from land or sea, the beauty of Old Harry Rocks is unforgettable. One of the iconic scenery of the Dorset landscape! You can enjoy the view Poole and Bournemouth, Swanage in the distance and even Isle of Wright in a clear sunny day. Just be sensible not to stay too close to the cliff edge.

A wonderful place for a walk. Amazing views. On the way, restaurants with toilets. I honestly recommend it!
Raf Zof — Google review
We walked to Old Harry Rocks from Swanage beach. It was beautiful weather after a week of rainy days. We saw some places land-sliding while walking on the beach. Also from the top of the stairs which is at the end of beach walk until you start climbing, there was a long muddy path…especially after long rainy days so our walk was pretty exciting! It was such a stunning view! We will definitely do the walk again! If you get close to the edge it was pretty scary so be careful with little ones who are just running towards the edge with excitement!

Great views out to sea, a nice easy walk from the car park. Don’t go too near the edge! Can see for miles around up there. An interesting place to visit.

It's a really cool place to paddle board to (when the tide is right and sea/wind is calm). You can get a unique perspective of the place. When paddling between studland and here I also saw a seal and a few fish!

Good parking available nearby, easy walk to the rocks. The landscape is surreal. A treat for nature lovers

Amazing scenic coast walk with white cliffs. Experience a beautiful sunset! In my opinion this place is better than Dover's cliffs. It's a 20 minute walk from the car park, and there is no entrance fee to the place itself. Will definitely visit again if I'm in the area.
Radu Rosca — Google review
Beautiful place but nothing too exciting as hyped about. We parked at South Beach car Park and started out walk. Don’t be misled by Google Maps. It showed 2 hour walk but it was only 40min or less depending on your speed. There are Toilets just before the walk starts at the sign board. Once you reach , there not much. Just 2 or 3 standing rocks but the views in all directions are stunning! It’s a grassy area so nice to relax for a while before making your way back.

Historical landmark
Clouds Hill, a historical landmark maintained by the National Trust, is a museum that provides a glimpse into the life of T.E. Lawrence. Known as Lawrence of Arabia, he was a British soldier who achieved legendary status after fighting alongside Arab tribes during WWI. The museum displays Lawrence's personal belongings including evocative photos from his desert campaigns and sketches of French crusader castles. Visitors can also see the desk where he abridged Seven Pillars of Wisdom.
I never tire coming here. Lovely little place. Added to a visit to Hardy's Cottage and Max Gate. The guided tour I had was so informative. The volunteers are worth there weight in gold. Each time I come I learn another fact. Enjoy your visit when you come 👍
Brian Tucker — Google review
A very small but significant N.T. property , made fascinating by the welcoming and very knowledgeable guides. It definitely made me want to learn more about T.E.Lawrence's life..
David Johnson — Google review
Lovely gem of a place to visit. Learnt so much from the guide who was clearly passionate about the history of the place. We spent about an hour and half here. The place is left as Lawrence of Arabia left it before he set off on his fateful journey on his motorbike where he was killed crashing into a tree...he wore no crash helmet :-/ since then, it was made compulsory to wear one. Beautiful little cottage, but with a busy road next to it. Car parking was free and just a short 2 min walk away. We visited in the rain but it didn't spoil the enjoyment. Not really a place for young children to visit.
Skippy Eliche — Google review
Lawrence of Arabia's old house is pretty much as he left it, on the day he rode his motorcycle down to the local Post Office and was killed in a road accident on his way back home. It is a quiet, unassuming place and the tour guides certainly know their stuff! Just down the main road, the location of Lawrence's fatal crash is marked by a stone in a small car park facing the area where the Army's Tanks often practice exercises. The stone faces inwards, away from the road. This is because the original road is now partly in the Tank exercise area. If you have an interest in Lawrence, this place is a must-see. Entry is by pre-booking via The National Trust website. Entry fees are very modest. If you like Tanks, Bovingdon Tank Museum is a mile down the road.
Mitch Peeke — Google review
Some kind of meeting face to face with Lawrence of the Arabian, through appreciating his daily life details. He is more than a hero, but is some kind of legends. Not too far away (400 yards) from Clouds Hill by the road in front of it is the fatal accident spot designated with a memorial stone and a tree.
KM LAW — Google review
Really enjoyed our visit there. While the property itself was interesting to view, it was the National Trust guides who made it magical with their stories and facts about Lawrence's life! Note that you must book a timed entrance in advance for this property.
Martin Schneider — Google review
This is a fascinating place, where you can learn more about the man himself, T.E.Lawrence (aka..Lawrence of Arabia). He achieved so much for his country and had a very full and interesting life, which was tragically cut short just 500 or so yards down the road from the cottage, where there is a small memorial at the roadside, near to the spot of his fatal motorcycle accident. The cottage is maintained very well, staffed by very friendly and knowledgeable guides. Allow about an hour or so to have a good look around as it is only a small place. It is a real time capsule, more or less as it was in 1935, when Lawrence lived there and it gives a brief insight into his life. We did the Lawrence of Arabia trail, visiting Clouds Hill cottage, the roadside memorial and his well maintained grave at the church yard, in nearby Moreton, which was poignant but rewarding and we will do again one day.
Lee Martin — Google review
This isn't the biggest or most impressive site but the volunteers and original items contained make it extremely interesting as better understood TE Lawrence (I.e. Lawrence of Arabia's) life. You have to prebook the tour to see the cottage. The tour was about 25-30 minutes outside, where we sat on benches and heard the volunteer tell of his life from birth and how he came to acquire the cottage. We then went inside breaking into smaller groups (two groups of four), where other volunteers inside would give details of the room (as it was all original furnishings) and answer any additional questions. The house itself is small - 4 rooms (two on each floor), then an exterior shed that now has brief info on his life. We spent about an hour there, and I realized I actually knew very little about him beforehand! Other FYIs: - free parking on site - Must prebook - One clean toilet on site - No tea room or refreshments on site
Becky T — Google review
Visited by happy chance as in the area but would say it is worth travelling for in its own right. As others have said, it is the guides who bring it alive due to their in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for Lawrence and Clouds Hill, his special retreat. Booking is recommended, but I'd say it is worth dropping in in case they have space as some did during our visit. We left wanting to find out more about Lawrence, who was remarkable in so many ways.

The house was interesting but what gave it the 5 stars were the brilliant guides and the knowledge they shared. Also great information about the church where his funeral was. We spoke to three and they were all interesting. Thanks guys

A lovely place, not even "modest" this fella lived a big life in a very small place, this one. Hard to believe a lot of what's going bang in the middle east these days (last hundred years or so...)was, in some ways, influenced by this fella, I don't mean he started it but was in the middle of somewhere. While visiting here I could hear tanks rumbling behing the trees and off to the south tank gunners were letting rip the next generation of guided artillery munitions, makes for a rather interesting day out. The staff are lovely and knowledgeable but are constrained by timed slots, it's a popular place so please do book ahead (online booking is quick and faff-free). The house is preserved as the protagonist left it, simple comfort but most of his book collection are so rare they're under the wing of the Ashmolean I think? Enough parking for perhaps 10 cars and I suppose I should mention access is unsuitable for some folk, I'm 6'6" and have prosthetic leg and found the stairs challenging but made it up without too much moaning, ask the staff in advance for info but wheelchairs look like they'd hit problems. Cheers

What an amazing experience !!! Far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this to anyone not just fans. The cottage is very well preserved, atmospheric, personal and with genuine artefacts of T.E. Lawrence himself. The volunteers were very knowledgeable. Not to be missed.

Small property with limited grounds. However that reflects the house that Lawrence of Arabia lived in. Very interesting none the less. I learned a lot about Lawrence of Arabia. No shop or cafe. I think there are toilets. One hour should be enough for a visit. The period furniture is interesting. 1920s to 30s.

The Rick Stein restaurant in Sandbanks offers stunning views of Poole Harbour and a fantastic selection of seafood dishes. The menu includes plenty of choices for those who dont enjoy seafood, too. The restaurant is also wheelchair accessible and accepts American Express, Mastercard and Visa.
What a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely incredible and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Best fish and chips I've ever had!! I would also highly recommend the sushi starter, which was out of this world!!! Would love to visit again

A great dining experience, good staff and amazing food. If you book in advance and your due to visit during the day time, ask for a seat by the window with a sea view, you won’t be disappointed. There are two levels on the ground floor, the back higher area is better for fine dining and the front lower area is better for drinks and lunches because it’s a bit more casual. An ideal stopping point if your walking around the sandbanks area. A must visit place for dinner if your staying near by. Although it’s a seafood restaurant, you will find the normal meat eater meals, but I’d recommend going for everything seafood related. The fish and chips are famously good.

Beautiful sea front location and a warm welcome with good service throughout our brunch, especially from the smiley girls! Didn't book, took a chance, but the restaurant only had three tables full so plenty of space for us (hence lack of atmosphere as everything was very quiet), and they didn't mind serving us even in our walking gear! Good amount of food and delicious green smoothie.
T T — Google review
There is just so much to be loved at this restaurant. The view, the ambience, the service, the wine selection, the different food flavours on the menu, and the children’s menu. We could sit here all day eating, chatting, enjoying the view. However, food can be even better by ensuring that they are executed at the standard which the chef and customers are expecting. On this occasion we were served undercooked white rice and this should never have happened. It wouldn’t stop us from coming back for all the good reasons listed above and have the set menu offer but it’ll probably stop us from ordering from the full price main menu.
Lehmann Family — Google review
Special day for us. The place is as just amazing, the food very tasty, the wine delicious and at the right temperature. The waiter was courteous, knowing every single item in the menu. The view was great. Thank you. For sure we will be visiting again! P.S: thanks for the surprise ‘ Anniversary ’ desert. My wife was delighted ( by your gesture and by the taste ).

There was a large group of us, so we were sat in the more casual downstairs portion of the restaurant. Service was mediocre and clearly by summer season student staff. We also asked the waitress to take a photo of us, which she was unable to do taking one blurry photo of only two out of the six of us. The food was quite good but for the price it was a bit of a rip off.

As a solo diner, I felt very comfortable and well looked after. I requested a window seat so that I didn't stick out like a sore thumb. The food was amazing and the choice of wine was superb. I wish I lived closer to Poole so that I could come more often. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Starters Scallops Tempura Vegetables, were lovely with a very light batter. Mains Roast Troncon of Wild Turbot Dover Sole De-boned at the table. Desserts Baked cheesecake Hot Chocolate Fondant The food was nicely presented and very tasty A pleasurable visit yet again. It's a very busy restaurant so make sure you book. The prices seem to have crept up a little from our last visit. It's more affordable to go for their set lunch £27.95 If your staying local they have a complimentary pick up and or drop off home in their Mercedes Benz at weekends. Thumbs up if you find this useful.

Very nice. Nice restaurant, well presented plates, high quality taste and although I thought the plates were too small, after a starter and a main I felt full and had to wait for a while to make room for desert. They have a dairy free menu, if you have an intolerance, which is a bonus. But I’m used to navigating through the menus and coping. It’s probably worth using if your intolerance is more severe or you have diary allergy to milks proteins. A well thought out addition to the menu set up. Im sorry I didn’t post a picture of the chocolate pudding with blackcurrant sorbet which was delicious. I had already eagerly ruined a picture opportunity by attacking it with a spoon as soon as it landed on the table. Surprised by a very nice white wine called “Rick Stein’s white burgundy 2022”. Nice enough that we ordered more. Very large wine selection which isn’t possible to experience all of it. Worth ironing a nice shirt and getting a little dressed up to make an evening treat here a little more special.

Fabulous restaurant in Sandbanks. I tried the coconut prawns for starters and the fillet of sea bass as mains. Both were exquisite. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Anniversary dinner at Mr Steins in Poole. Nice fine dining restaurant. Pristine white table cloths laid with glassware and shiny cutlery. The Scallops were well cooked, soft, fresh and tasty. I had the Polenta with mushrooms, cheesy and full of flavour. For mains The Dover sole filleted by the waitress at their station and presented with new potatoes, lime and red onion emulsion which set the dish off. I had the fillet of Hake on a bed of beetroot, red and white cabbage and pomegranate salad. Teamed with a side of tenderstem broccoli with toasted almonds, delicious!! Then why not dessert? Chocolate fondant was oozing from the centre, perfectly executed accompanied with pistachio ice cream. I had to choose the Pavlova filled with chantilly cream and mixed berry compote also extremelywell executed. Followed by a selection of cheeses with crackers and beetroot chutney. We retired to the bar for coffees as the tables are booked for 2 hours per reservation. A great anniversary meal. Service could have been more attentive and the restaurant needs some heating, as the cold air coming in was not welcome. The lady next to me put her coat on after a few minutes of sitting down. All in all we will return, the summer must bring stunning views of the harbour.

Brilliant date night venue. Food was terrific. Came here for my wife's birthday. I ordered the chicken Fricassee, cooked to perfection, moist and tender with beautifully crisp skin, covered in a delicious sauce. The wife's crab linguine, which she said was lovely. After that, we shared an affogato, which was truly spectacular. A member of staff then presented us with a lovely little "happy birthday" art on a plate with melted chocolate, and some fudge. I don't normally do the service charge, but this place goes above and beyond to earn it.

Parking is quite convenient, though on a sunny weekend we had arrived by 9am which was adequate to ensure availability of parking. By the time that we left at 11am, there wasn't really much parking left. We had breakfast, which isn't really what Rick Stein's is about (that's seafood), but it is a restaurant with a good deal of visual drama of dining in the restaurant area with the 'Harbour View'. Certainly, climbing up the stairs and passing the kitchen to be greeted with the view of the harbour is fantastic. There weren't any real complaints about the food, which were all very good ingredients. The coffee was good and the brewed coffee offered complimentary refills. The bloody mary was really good. The children were catered for on the same menu and they seemed to scoff their food too -- ages ranged from four to thirteen! For me, the pick of the dishes was the crab omelette, a must have. Service... they were all very nice and professional but had a tendency to gaze downwards rather than scanning the room, a personal pet peeve. Overall, it's certainly a lovely place to be on a sunny Sunday morning and I would visit for lunch next time.

Outstanding ! Went here for lunch and was not disappointed. The menu was incredible, great wine list and good service. I had the seafood chowder for starter and lemon sole for main course, both of which were expertly flavoured and presented. My partner had the shellfish platter which was also amazing. There is also a lovely outdoor seating area where we had post lunch drinks with some cheese. Well recommended

Seafood restaurant
The Jetty Restaurant provides fine dining with views of Christchurch Harbour and seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant has outdoor seating and is wheelchair accessible. Alcohol is served and the restaurant accepts American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.
Another amazing meal. I must say it’s been a very long time (2 years) since we were last here, so it felt like a real treat spending the afternoon here. I will always say it’s best to book for lunch, as you do not want to miss out on the amazing view from the restaurant. The jetty is without a doubt the best restaurant in the Christchurch and Bournemouth area, but be sure to book in advance as it’s very popular. Service, food and drink cannot be faulted and well worth the price (£££). See you again very soon.

Amazing place. Great food and lovely staff. I had picked this restaurant as the pictures showed sea views , but all the tables for 2 were away from that window , sadly. The sea view tables were for larger groups. The service was brilliant! All staff were quick , polite and professional. My partner loves seafood , but I'm vegetarian. No issue here as the veggie menu was very good. We both enjoyed our food and drinks . Would come back to try something else from their menu and a few more of their cocktails . Tried to be sly and take some pictures as my partner hates me doing this haha. All presented beautifully. The popcorn left on tables was off putting as all tables had it , regardless of if anyone sitting there. Some were there a good while. Be nicer if they were brought as after being seated. Even if they'd been sat out the back. Really enjoyed it overall

Booked anniversary dinner via the hotel but turned up to no reservation. Thankfully, we're not in tourist season so they found us a table easily. The views are as stunning as Shell Bay. The cocktails are on point, food delicious and our server Andre looked after us so well. The dessert was to die for! Thanks to all the team for creating a special evening!

What a fabulous restaurant. My partner and I spent a few nights down in the New Forest for New Years, as part of which we booked dinner here 1 evening. Was the night before NYE so expected it to be quiet, but we were pleasantly surprised to see it really busy. Staff were polite (our waitress was great, very observant without being too intrusive). All 3 courses were absolutely spot on (well, 4 course I guess as we went with the Cockle Popcorn as a pre-starter, was amazing). Our courses were: - Starters = Sashimi & Crab and Seafood Linguine. - Mains = Cod & Crab and Seafood Curry [latter was incredible]. - Desserts = Espresso Martini Sabayon and Pineapple Carpaccio & Mango. Honestly cannot say a bad thing about any of the dishes. My partner swears her dessert (the espresso martini sabayon) was the best she's had! Cannot recommend enough.

Outstanding!! The food was exceptional and the service even better. The young lady looking after our table was fantastic. Judged us well with humour but still so very efficient. The views were ok too 🤣 We will definitely be going back!

Had lunch at The Jetty after checking in at the Harbour Hotel. The 2-course set menu represented excellent value. The Arnold Bennet soufflé was fluffy and hot that it melted in the mouth. The fish and chips was excellent! A translucent crispy batter encasing the moist fish, probably the best fish & chips ever. The pink praline tart was overpowered by the red coulis that tasted a bit artificial but it was nice overall. The views were beautiful and the service second to none. An exceptional experience and a great start to a weekend in Christchurch.

Absolutely superb. We were staying locally in a B & B and the owner made a reservation for us. It's not cheap but the service and food were exceptional. My husband and I don't eat red meat and wanted the mini bistro tasting menu so asked if it was possible to remove the pork cheek from one of the dishes. This was no trouble and the chef not only adjusted that but we ended up having a menu more or less created especially for us which was fantastic. All the food was delicious but the most exquisite dish was the halibut in saffron sauce my husband chose, it melted in the mouth and I wished I'd had that too. The service charge was justified as the staff work tirelessly to keep customers happy and attended to. A marvellous experience. We will definitely go again when next staying in the area and highly recommend 😁👌

Thank you Anna for a truly making our visit a wonderful experience. Steaks cooked perfect and scallops were amazing. Staff were very friendly too. Will definitely come back just to eat here again.

Was booked in for a birthday meal and it did not disappoint. Even though the winds outside hit up to 45mph there was something quite serene about being still, with wonderful views and a somewhat chaotic picture outside. The food itself, was top notch. The jetty nibbles were one gorgeous mouthful after another and the cod and crab was an absolute joy to eat, with definitely the creamiest mash I have ever come across. Service was impeccable and attentive throughout. Would definitely recommend.

Brilliant as always, but a couple of mistakes made by the servers made it 4 star instead of 5. 8 of us for 70th birthday celebration on a Saturday afternoon. Very glad we booked for 12pm as the restaurant filled up so quickly and the car parking would have been a nightmare, especially as we needed two disabled spaces for our party. The food was delicious. The set menu is good value, but it was disappointing to not see a lamb or beef option on the mains of this. The option to have 3 taster Desserts was a brilliant option and we asked for 2 spoons to share as well! The blackberry parfait was lovely. The lamb was cooked to perfection

I have to rate this restaurant 5 star, I booked it for my husband’s birthday and it was a really great experience, we had a nice view. The service was exceptional and timely. We had the five course menu for £35 which was more than good value for our money. The taste of the food was consistently good till the last course. I will definitely recommend and will go again!

Went here with some friends for a weekend break. Reservations are a must as it’s very busy and they can alter reservations so double check. Service was excellent and food was very tasty. Lots of good options for various dietary requirements and I really enjoyed mine. I would say that portions are quite big so go easy on the sides as we had a fair bit of food left over. It’s a bit pricey but the quality of the food, cooking and ingredients is excellent. A must visit when in Mudeford/Christchurch! Vatos Locos Forever!

Booked here for our date night, and it did not disappoint. From the moment we were greeted at the door and seated at our table, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Our server for the evening was the lovely Andre, who was charming and engaging, and gave us wonderful suggestions. The location is stunning, and being seated looking out over the water while you eat your meal and enjoy your choice of cocktail. The food was tasty and flavourful and we will definitely be going back, especially during the summer where there our tables out on the waterfront to enjoy even more of the beautiful views of the surrounding area.

The Oyster & Fish House is a contemporary seafood restaurant with panoramic views of The Cobb and Jurassic Coast. It's run by renowned chef Mark Hix, who loves to showcase the regions top ingredients on his ever-changing menu. Dogs are welcome out on the terrace, and blankets are supplied for chilly evenings inside.
This was everything we had wished for and well worth the journey. Fabulous location, lip-smackingly delicious food and cheerful service. We were even treated to some birthday truffles. The cockle popcorn, prawn burger and asparagus soup came route 1 from culinary heaven. Check out the counter seats too; best view in the house! This is what great British hospitality is all about. Bravo!!

This is a lovely restaurant, I took my 4 year old for lunch. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Our food was delicious, beautiful ingredients and cooked to perfection. The views are stunning from everywhere within the restaurant. Will definitely be visiting again. The Oysters were beautifully creamy, monkfish with capers and butter so meaty yet juicy and cheese and biscuits for dessert. My daughter had the popcorn cockles (amazing), hake (very nice and simply cooked) and ice-cream.

A fantastic meal. The seafood was extremely fresh and everything was made with great care and attention to detail. It’s the first time we’ve had cockles popcorn and it was delicious - especially with vinegar drizzled on top. The mussels were divine and the prawn burger was very filling and packed with prawn. The scrumpy (fried oyster) was very well made - considering how wet oysters can get, it was impressive that they came out so crispy. The team was attentive and the place has a lovely view. Very glad we found this place during our visit and managed to book a table.

What can I say, great food, amazing view. We visited on the Friday evening of our stay in Lyme as it was our wedding anniversary and decided to push the boat out, but not outrageously so (something something good intentions). To go with our initial glass of Lyme Bay fizz, we had Cockle Popcorn, and a couple of fried Oysters. Now then. Cockle Popcorn. Go buy all of this, immediately. it is amazing. Oysters. Battered, fried, served with scotch bonnet mayo. These are also very very good, and the mayo has been made with care, not napalm, and is therefore just the right level of heat. For starters, my wife had baked scallops which had a salty, herby crumb on that I can still taste, and I had the shellfish soup which was also very very tasty. This is due to the method of manufacture which involves using all the spare shellfish parts the restaurant discards, to make a delicious and warming soup. This was a problem for me as I forgot to check if it involved Crab, to which I have either an intolerance or allergy... I wish I had because when we went back the following day, one of the staff looked absolutely mortified as I explained what had happened and gven the quality of the previous evening I did not wish to add stress to their day. I fortunately only had a rumbling tummy for an evening and it could have been far worse. Shame really, it was an amazing dish with a lovely flavour. For mains, the Lobster for both of us didn't disappoint either although ask for a claw-cracker when (not if) you try it. We didn't, and as a result I cut my thumb on my main course. Don't care, tasty Lobster and good chips. Desserts were fabulous and my son had a chocolate mousse about the size of a small cat. Is this the highest degree of fine-dining, deserving of multiple michelin stars? No Does it actually need to be? No Is this an excellent restaurant overlooking Lyme Bay, with knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly staff, serving fantastic food? Absolutely yes We liked it so much in fact, we went back the next day for a late afternoon drink and snack where I am very glad we were directed to the sticky Korean style Monkfish cheeks. Along with the Cockle Popcorn I could easily eat a bucket of those, unfortunately this would have made our subsequent round of mini-golf next door a challenge. Go here for a dining experience that is firmly on my "will absolutely do again and tell everyone to do the same" list.

What a thoroughly brilliant way to spend an afternoon. Sitting on a lovely open terrace with a great view of the bay, eating a selection of seafood treats, sipping a glass…or four…of chilled rosé and feeling very decadent! The cockle popcorn was a highlight and so was the oyster selection, both the raw and deep fried versions.

We went to this restaurant as our friend recommended it. I'm Southern Italian so quite peaky in terms of food. My boyfriend and I ordered the mix fish for 2, 2 sides and 2 local beers. Everything was simply delicious. The fish mix had 2 soles (lemon sole and Dover sole) and the tail of a sea bream. We ordered it with the green sauce and it was mouth-watering. As sides we had the potatoes and the courgettes which were both quite good; maybe we might have fancied bigger portions but that's it. Apart from the quality of the food we also appreciated the fact that everything (or almost every product) is locally sourced. Local farms are sponsored on the menu and we quite liked that. The beers were local as well and the waiter told a bit about the brewery that makes them. In 2 we paid in total £85 which is totally a fair price considered we are in the UK and in a beautiful location, plus the service was spot on. Definitely a place where I would bring my guests so bravo!

Epic location, most definitely recommended to sit at the outside stools in great weather and take in the luxurious views. The fare is top, just make sure to ask the staff for what has come in and when and how it is prepared on the day. Service was great, staff was nice. Prices obviously err on the higher side but if you get to sit with views like this, it simply is worth it.

Absolutely lovely evening with a fantastic view over Lyme Regis and the port. The food, although we only went for starter and oysters, was absolutely delicious and fresh as they come. The staff were, attentive, friendly and just amazing. Yes, as a few others have commented it is a pricier than usual restaurant but it’s worth it for a special evening.

We attended on a Thursday lunchtime before the Easter weekend. We had an incredible view over the harbour on a stormy day. The food was exceptional and service very friendly. Food recommendations: The hot oyster was accompanied by a sublime scotch bonnet sauce, the shellfish Soup was dreamy and the Crab asparagus salad was full of flavour and intriguing textures. We were politely seated outside (we had not booked), but the wait was really too long. Meanwhile, other customers arrived after us and were served much earlier (and when we were served the grilled fish they were eating dessert). The quality and preparation of the food is very good, the service should be handled with more care, as when we were served the first starter we still had no cutlery or plates (bread was never brought) and the food got cold. Medium-sized portions, good plating and presentation. Good offerings of wines, beers and local cider. Value for money was low, we spent 220 pounds for 4, including a child: 6 oysters, two starters, a children's menu dish of hake and potatoes, a mixed grill of fish for two, a steak, two bottled beers, a bottle of cider.

A magical place, wonderful food, friendly staff and a view to die for. We had Korean fried fish, and smoked trout with soda bread, followed by cod with Poole cockles and scallops with Chorizo. We loved the Black Cow vodka, and how it was solely made from cow's milk. The way it was served in a little glass with another small full bottle nestled in an iced glass was great fun and my Morello cherry cocktail hit the spot For desert it was the cheeseboard for him, and panna cotta for me. We only booked dinner here because we'd walked past a couple of days before, liked the look, booked up dinner then stayed on to have some oysters and a glass of wine for lunch. The staff remembered us for dinner and were just as warm and friendly. In particular the Maitre D and the young woman who served us with long dark hair and light coloured eyes were super nice. Mark Hix's restaurant is a feather in Lyme Regis's cap and well worth a visit. One of the highlights of our holiday #happydays

Superb meal in a wonderful setting! The staff were all friendly, helpful and welcoming as well as doing a great job. I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant and it went beyond my expectations. The service and food was spectacular. Walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by the host who showed us to our table in the intimate dining room. Straight away, our waiter greeted us and brought over drinks and warm sourdough bread with lobster butter. We had the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing, something which I couldn’t recommend more. Each course was better than the last. Both presentation and taste were fantastic. I couldn’t recommend the catch more highly.

I'm not sure why Giles Coren only *thinks* Catch is the best restaurant in the world. It's hands down fabulous! We enjoyed *THE* most wonderful early evening menu with the lovely and attentive team at Catch. Our first visit was 2 years ago, and it was ridiculously good then - it's only got better since. Highly recommended.

Wonderful food and superb service. The staff were very helpful and each course was perfect. Outstanding!!!! From arrival to departure we were looked after. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about each course and the wine. We will be returning! My only feedback was that I felt the restaurant was cold. However, it has high ceilings and is open plan! I imagine heating isn't easy and expensive! Had the pleasure of dining at Catch for their first Saturday evening Tasting Menu. Firstly, I would like to extend my thanks to the chefs & front of house staff who ensured the Tasting Menu was amended to cater for two coeliac guests. The gluten free alternatives were all fantastic and I hugely appreciate the extra effort taken to provide us with our own bespoke printed menus on the evening. Secondly, the food quantities across the 8 course were just perfect. The flavours were subtle, delightfully unique and balanced perfectly for each course. This was all coupled with a lovely ambience in the restaurant, friendly & accommodating staff. Look forward to visiting again soon.

This was our second visit and booked the early sitting on Saturday. Keen to be on time we were the first diners at 6pm but not for long. Sebastian our waiter was courteous, friendly and very pleasant. Our dining experience was excellent. From the moment we sat down to the moment we finished. The multiple fish courses are truly divine and obviously difficult to make. They taste as good as they look, the chefs deserve their Michelin star. we had interesting wine from around the world and we tasted complementary sparkling English wine. the meal was £240 on valentine night and we had an enjoyable evening. The only disappointment on quality and flavour was the Petit fours with limonchello. The wine flight was expensive at an extra £100 and not worth it.

Came here for the lunch tasting menu deal, food was delicious and the service was great, attentive but left us alone and found the perfect balance. Restaurant was quiet when we arrived with us being the only diners but it did fill out while we ate which improved the atmosphere. The seafood restaurant Guildhall Tavern in offers deliciously cooked fish and seafood dishes that are sure to please even the most discerning of eaters. Whether you're a fan of fish or not, their menu has something for everyone, making it the perfect place to enjoy a casual meal with friends.
Booked for a special birthday the Guildhall tavern did not disappoint. The food was special and cooked perfectly. We had 3 courses from the main menu. We also , ordered two bottles of wine to accompany the meal. The service was fantastic, when we asked for time before dessert arrived they must have had a stopwatch it was to the second. 30 minutes. The coffee just rounded a wonderful meal. We were not rushed, we even had a conversation with the head manager which was nice. and we were last out. I would highly recommend this establishment. Most excellent food, full of flavour, textures and colours. The sauce that came with scallops was amazing, and the scallops themselves were juicy and bursting with flavour. Whitebait and its sauce were the best combination I have ever tried. The fish soup was sooo good and the piece of bread with sesame seeds that came with it was amazing (we asked for the second one). The chocolate fondant dessert with honey ice-cream was a delicious "cherry" on top. Thank you for a very friendly and quick service!

I highly recommend going to the Guildhall Tavern for any occasion. I ate there on Friday the 9th of June for my wedding and the food was spectacular. Everyone in the wedding party (11) loved their food. All the food came out at the same time so we were able to enjoy each course together. The drinks were flowing too and were delicious. All the family members praised the food and service. We were looked after extremely well. One of the waiters there is Polish and was able to communicate with my husbands parents so they felt included with what was being said. Me and my husband enjoyed our evening so much we will be going back to the restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary each year.

I booked my husband and I in to the Guildhall Tavern for his Birthday, the booking process was quick and easy with extra confirmation requests too. I was called by Whitney a few hours before the booking and she advised that we were welcome to arrive early and enjoy a glass of bubbles in the drinks lounge upstairs before dinner, this was an unexpected touch so we made sure to finish work early for this. Upon arrival Whitney greeted us warmly and offered to take our jackets before guiding us up to the drinks lounge, advising us of the nights specials and catch of the day before leaving us to relax. The glass of bubbles each were lovely and we decided to order a half dozen Oysters (from Jersey) with Sauvignon vinegar and shallot dressing along with the recommended Sea Salt & Rosemary Focaccia with sun blushed tomato & olive tapenade and beetroot & caraway hummus - the oysters were large, full of flavour and shucked without leaving any pieces of shell, the focaccia was wonderfully warm and light. The ladies upstairs were all friendly and attentive, nothing was any trouble. We then decided to order a bottle of the local Sparkling Dorset Cremant to have with dinner, it’s beautifully crisp with fine bubbles leaving a smoothness as it goes down. We ordered our food whilst up in the drinks lounge, we were then guided downstairs to our table as the starters arrived… Grilled Scallops in the shell with Garlic & Herb Butter and Korean Fried Cod Cheeks with winter kimchi and miso BBQ sauce, both delicious were flavoursome, well portioned and with a variety of textures and flavours on the palette, a great start. For main my husband ordered the Roasted Hake Supreme with herb crushed potatoes, samphire, steamed mussels, chive and caviar beurre blanc and I decided to go for the Pan Fried Fillet of Sea Bream with fregola & prawn pasta, shellfish bisque, charred tenderstem broccoli, pickled fennel included additional sides of Creamed Leek & Barbers 1833 Vintage Cheddar Gratin and Koffman’s Skin on Fries - everything was cooked perfectly, the fish had crispy skin, fine delicate flakes of flesh, plenty of sauce, the pasta on my dish wasn’t stodgy or dense and the flavours of both complemented one another perfectly, the mains were, unexpectedly, rather large so we didn’t actually need the additional sides, we were so full already but the fries were so crisp and hot that I just kept shovelling them in to my mouth, I didn’t want them to go to waste! Of course we had to have a dessert, no matter how full we were… Sticky Toffee Apple Pudding for me and the Dark Chocolate Delice for my husband, both truly delicious, full of rich flavour and a great way to finish off a meal. To help wash the desserts down my husband had a St Clements Martini and I had the Summertini - well mixed and balanced - fantastic. Between dishes we were chatting with our waitress (I’m so sorry we didn’t catch your name, you are Italian I believe) as well as Whitney, sharing wedding stories and experiences of where we came from and where we were going in life re. moving, along with Whitney’s heritage, we had such a great laugh with her and the chat really made our evening and was something that you don’t get to experience in many restaurants these days. As ‘front of house’ Whitney is absolutely spectacular, thank you for making our evening and my husband’s Birthday meal extra special, we can’t wait to return soon! (I forgot to take pictures of the desserts!)
