A beautiful historic square, in summer there are various events, in winter you can find Christmas markets here. Large buildings and distinctive architecture underline the historical importance of the city of Eger, which even today is one of the important places to visit.

Centrum of Eger.. 20/25 minutes walking inside of the park from Eger train station. No need bus to arrive there. Go walking and appreciating the beautiful nature of Eger mainly on Ady Endre utca. A very beautiful street. A good place for traveling with several restaurants and cafes in the centrum.

Nice places in the downtown of Eger. Plenty of restaurants around the square. On August 2021 we enjoyed Eger wine festival. I'm impressed, next day after festival Square were clear. No plastic cups, broken glasses, empty wine bottles. Well done Eger.

The statue and the main square - along with the cathedral - are some of the main attractions in Eger. It’s a short walking distance to the castle through a street of shops. There are restaurants and cafes on the square. Everywhere nearby is paid parking.

It's a very important historian place of Eger in Hungary. The Turkish army tried to attack Eger in the 16th century. Eger is also an important center of the Catholic religion. We call it, the city of monks.

What a lively city. This square has everything, live music, bars, restaurants, fountains. Little cars for children to hire. I could sit here for hours. There was a guy playing Greek music on a mandolin tonight and people were dancing

Great place to visit for wine lovers. There are lots of cave cellars and nice areas to sit and enjoy the wine. Good parking and nice surrounding area

Really loved this little town. Wine cellars are walking distance from one another so you can easily take the bus from Budapest city. The wine is really good, with a great tasting selection of red and white. So much more affordable than in the city centre
Stephanie de Beer — Google review
Many, many wine cellars with many, many different and delicious kind of wines. When you visit this valley you can do cellars hopping. There is more than 30 of them, some even have live music.

It is a location with a special vibe. The old wineries inside the mountains give you a feeling of going back in time. If you are a wine drinker and you are traveling around this place you must stop here. The best wine I drank here. you can taste several dishes, talk to the producers and learn the history of the wineries. The tasting price starts from 400ft / 1 dl, and you can buy poured wine starting from the price of 2000ft 2 l bottle.I especially recommend the Kocsis family winery.
Beáta Kudor — Google review
Very great atmosphere beautiful view, amazing wines 🍷
Kuka Szemetes — Google review
If you like wine, this is a must-visit place of the region. Most wineries will be happy to offer you some samples and most of them are rather on the great side in taste. Bulk wines have the greatest price to value ratio yet I can not say the bottled ones wouldn't be worth their prices. This place has a really great milieu to it, but prepare yoi wouldn't want to be the one who's driving.
Steven Julinek — Google review
Some hits, some misses, but this is a Must-Do in Eger! Torma pince wines are by far superior to everything else out there, try the REM 2013 - an AMAZING blend. Just fantastic, as is their work with Kekfrankos (skip the Bikaver - it's just an inferior grape!)
Samsunshine Levy — Google review
Some great wineries number 34 -22-25 were special exceptional wines and nibbles very reasonably priced for all measures Beware at number 47 waited for us to get seated before asking us to leave because he was closing early Overall a great afternoon out and a land train to and from the town

Strolling along the charming wine cellars, you can sample a variety of exquisite wines crafted with love and expertise. The ambiance is truly delightful, with quaint streets, cozy wine bars, and breathtaking scenery. The Valley of the Beautiful Woman is a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, providing an unforgettable experience that embodies the beauty and flavor of Hungarian wine culture.

Beautiful valley with many cellars, great wines, perfect bread with onion. Also a playground for kids and places to sit in the park with fireplaces.
Patrik Popelic — Google review
Overpriced restaurants with low quality of Hungarian foods. Also good luck if you have any dietary restrictions. Wine is semi good (but hey, I am not an expert in that). It could be so much nicer, it pains my heart.
Nina Gáti — Google review
Wine paradise... you can taste lots of variety of Hungarian wine....and then decide which you want bulk buying. If you become regular customer some of the wine cave shops offer Hungarian traditional dishes like hot goulash soup.... its best experience....
Piyush Deshpande — Google review
A short distance from the town square, you can even walk there. I took a leisurely stroll. Check out the different cellars for wine tasting. Restaurants are available but I think better in town. Enjoy your glass of red! Some are genuinely passionate about wine. Some are just for the money.
Lawrence Seow — Google review
We visited several wine shops. Each and everyone offered very nice wines. Should definitely visit it during spring or summer to enjoy the nature at its best.
Dimitris Gj — Google review
A really unique place to try a variety of wines from different wineries. Some cellars are really nice and cozy, others have mold growing all over the ceiling and walls - just something to be aware of as you bop around.

The Eger Thermal Souvenir gift shop, located within a thermal spa facility, offers a wide variety of merchandise for both tourists and wellness enthusiasts. The shop carries products that promote health and relaxation as well as traditional souvenirs. The facility boasts an impressive infrastructure including multiple pools with varying temperatures suitable for all ages. Additionally, the gastronomy is exceptional and the strand area features beautiful botanical trees set in an idyllic natural environment.
Very nice infrastructure, couple of pools with water with different temperature. Nice for kids and adults. Nice gastronomy and all.

Crowdy and dirty. The showers next to the pools didn't work. The tiles were coming away in some places.
Kamil Łucznik — Google review
Gorgeous strand with botanical trees in a lovely nature.
BlanShina B — Google review
Like outdoor pools? Well you can't go wrong here. It manages to cater for three distinct groups well. 'Serious' swimmers, who want to get some lengths in. Families, with space for games with the children and slides. And, those who want a 'Spa-like' experience (for the full experience I recommend going to the excellent Turkish Baths next door which include entry to the outdoor facilities). For adults, don't worry, the space is big enough for the raucous activities of children to be away from the more relaxed pools.
Anthony Constable — Google review
With their newly built slides and upgraded facilities this aquapark is a modern, nice place, we had a lot of fun here. It is family friendly, there were a lot of children, but the park was large enough for all. The hot water soaking pools were a blessing. Make sure you look around before buying food, although they are all cheap, some of the food outlets are much better than others.
Judit McPherson — Google review
Spent two days here with the family - tis a great place to go, lots of warm pools great price - couple of places to eat on site too or take a picnic - it will be worth it, as a good day can be spent here. Only negative is that been here two years on the trot and central feature in kids pool is still closed?
Pine Road — Google review
Great place to splash in the water in the middle of Eger. No 5 stars because there is no restrictions on the number of visitors, so summer and spring weekends are too crowded, making the experience not as perfect as it could be.
Nicola Grapputo — Google review
A lot of various places to relax and have a bath including a medical baths, swimming pool and amenities for children. All of these for fair price. Could really recommend.

Bolyki Pincészet and Vineyards

Food & Drink
Bolyki Pincészet and Vineyards offer a remarkable atmosphere and excellent value for money. The winery, located in an idyllic mountainous environment filled with intricately crafted caves, provides high-quality wines at reasonable prices. The knowledgeable staff are fluent in both English and French and offer free tours of the area with detailed explanations. The surreal music echoing through the caves adds to the unique experience. The property is meticulously clean, with exquisite attention to detail evident throughout.
Fantastic ambience, very good value for money. Having lived in Cape Town, I thought nothing could impress more anymore in terms of wineries. Then I went Bolyki and I changed my mind. + The most beautiful environment in the mountains, full of caves worked into the stone, high quality wines for reasonable prices, perfectly English- and French speaking staff, giving us a free tour around the area with plenty of explanations, the music in the caves seemed so surreal, clean place with details elaborated to perfection. 0 you need a bit of effort to find this place, due to google maps and a construction area in front of the estate.
Michael Alexander — Google review
My friend from London and I (based in Budapest) had great time at Bolyki winery, though we had a very stressful start! On the way to Bolyki, google map guided us to a narrow unpaved road. Due to the rain, our car got stucked in the mud. So unless you have a 4x4, don't drive in from Egri út side, drive from Kistályai út. Big big thanks to Csaba from the winery, his excellent hospitality made us feel comfortable, cozy and relaxed, so we could enjoy the delish wine and food for the rest of the day! He and the owner of the winery also offered help to get our car out of the mud while still raining, so my friend could catch the flight back and end our weekend trip perfectly. As a foreigner, I couldn't thank more for their warm-heart and kindness. The winery itself is a hidden gem. Its unique scenery is very much suitable for wedding party or company event. I will recommend all my friends to pay a visit while in Eger.
Xiaoxi Dai — Google review
Worth to visit. We had 8 wines testing + wine testing menu. Both food and wines were delicious. In addition you will learn about wine and production process. Whole place is hewn in solid rock which really impresses.
Micha? Szczawinski — Google review
Highly recommended! I wanted to experience a wine tasting, visiting Eger and all... They were super helpful and kind to organise one only for me (went alone), especially it being off-season! On the day their "taster person" got ill, they phoned me to let me know and offered the tour lead by the winery director himself! It goes without saying it was amazing! Máté was super knowledgeable not just in regards to the wine their produce, but also the ins and outs of anything related, answering my often (I assume) silly questions, while also picking the next wine based on what I thought the previous ones were! We topped the whole thing up with a behind the scenes tour to visit the bottling line and one of the rooms full of barrels. I had an amazing time! I'll definitely be back next time I'm around, if for nothing else to pick up a few bottles! Oh, and they have their base of operation carved into a mountain! Take that batman...

We had a fantastic afternoon at Bolyki! Amazing wines, delicious pizzas, and fantastic atmosphere. We came here with our two five year olds and they were throughly entertained as we did the two hour tasting. The man who prepared our tasting was incredibly accommodating and asked if our kids wanted special drinks. The tour of the grounds was interesting. A fabulous afternoon! Would highly recommend to everyone in the area. Looking forward to returning!

Went for a tasting, ended up with a tour thrown in and may have eaten a whole plate of delicious hams and cheeses. Was very quiet but the staff were very friendly. Was a great relaxing evening.
Caleb Simmich — Google review
Unique setting, unlike the other wine cellars. Excellent wines, attentive presentation. +The ham and cheese plate was delicious as well.
Akos Burany — Google review
We have visited vineyards in many countries on many continents but didn't know a lot about wine from Hungary. So when we visited, we knew we needed to try it. Bolyki was a great experience in terms of the wine and the winery itself. The winery is dug into the earth like a cave. It was very comfortable when it was hot outside. The wine was just fabulous. Both white and red, we found some we just had to bring home. It's affordable too which might not always be the case if the region gets recognized more. From Budapest to Eger, it is a short 2 hr bus/train ride. Make a day trip or stay the night. Worth the visit.
Tim Winter — Google review
My husband and I and our small dog all had an amazing time at Bolyki winery. The scenery and winery is absolutely beautiful with a great view of Eger from it as well as spectacular stone cliffs that make up the building. If we weren’t already married, it would be an amazing place to have a wedding. Great conversation and history as we drank heavy pours of phenomenal wines on our tasting. The wine is super delicious and we bought several bottles to consume later. Highly recommend!
Lila C — Google review
We had a lovely wine tasting at Bolyki. We caught a bus from Eger and walked. Very easy to do though while Google maps is accurate it does take you up a messy path. Persist and you'll get there. The bus was HUF350. We later caught a taxi back to Eger since we'd bought a half dozen bottles of wine. We had a simple pizza lunch while we tasted various wines in their cave. Thank you to Richie who looked after us.

Castle of Eger

Mentioned on
Castle
Sights & Landmarks
The Castle of Eger was constructed in the 13th century following the Mongol invasion and rebuilt after the Tatar invasion. Originally built as a fortress to defend against Turkish invasions, it now houses a history museum featuring models, drawings, artifacts such as armor and Turkish uniforms, and an exposition on the castle's story. The Gothic St Johns Cathedral foundation can be found on the eastern side of the complex while visitors can enter the castle casemates via the Dark Gate nearby.
Beautiful place, there are amazing views, a ton of historical data, also you can see different expositions. Have a good breakfast before going, there is a restaurant next to it, that is delicious. The restrooms are clean, and everybody is kind. Not everything has been translated to English, but if you have google Translate, there is no problem. Download the Hungarian dictionary in the app to make things easier. If you like the dark souls saga, you will love it.
Ramon R. L. — Google review
Since most of the exhibitions are closed, it’s not worth visiting. Got a student ticket for 1k HUF, so I guess it was fine. If you are planning to visit, you need to wait for the end of the renovation, as I think it will give much more for money. I think it can be a super cool location once it has everything open and working. Beautiful views on the city though
A B — Google review
Visiting the castle is worth the price of the ticket. There was lots of renovations going on at the time of our visit, so parts of the area were closed and the surroundings were a bit chaotic. At the ticket office was a helpful person working, for the rest personnel didn't speak other language besides Hungarian or they were not interested in serving clients.
Iina Toivari — Google review
We had a wonderful time walking around and seeing the castle fortifications, as well as the exhibits, which fortunately have English text in addition to Hungarian. There wasso much we missed out on, though - costumed performers demonstrating life in the time of the Castle's heyday, it appeared. It would be wonderful if they occasionally had the performance in other langauages, but at least perhaps a flyer with some translated information?
Tiffany Holley — Google review
After arriving from Budapest at noon, and a nice lunch, the first thing was to visit Eger Castle. One can spend the entire afternoon there. It was most enjoyable, informative as well as a walk back in time. Worth a visit and to spend about 4 hours.
Lawrence Seow — Google review
Beautiful place to visit, lots of history and interesting things to learn. Try the restaurant as well as the food is extraordinary good in here. Be prepared some of the cashier is rude and also if you’re a student over 25 the cashier will not apply the student discount. I felt discriminated as I believe regardless of age a student is a student and should be considered. The cashier almost made out that I am lying. When I tried to explain I am an adult student she said well over 25 you’re to old to have student discount. Yet again discrimination against my age.
Andrea Csaszar — Google review
For us, it's not worth to visit the castle before 5pm, from this time you can buy a walk tickets for less than the half of the daily price and it doesn't give you that much more. Daily ticket was 4.000 HUF, walking ticket from 5pm was 1.500. From springs to fall it's worth better to choose this because you can watch the sun going down from the castle which is pretty cool. If you're a museum fan maybe it's worth to visit before 5pm because the museums close at 6pm. Parking in the area is pretty complicated but it can be solved and you have to pay for it!
Sándor Latanik — Google review
If you don’t speak Hungarian don’t waste your time and money. Paid 4,800HUF for 2 people and it’s the price just for the entry ticket, you have to pay extra if you want to see e.g the wax figures. It was hard to find anything since there is literally no information in English. There are some tours to the underground but only in Hungarian and you can’t go there by yourself because it’s locked. The castle itself is under heavy construction (pictures attached), lots of places are fenced off. Toilets are out of service, staff at the information desk spoke poor English. The only think we liked was the place where you could see the firearm and military equipment from the past.
Michel Error404 — Google review
It is under construction right now, but the view is still great from there. We really liked the weapon museum inside the turret. The price of a ticket is cheap, we were getting there a little before we could have bought the cheaper ones, but the full price was still worth it to be honest. One ticket was 1200Ft.

We were lucky to visit during the festival week around the end of July. Planty of activities and shows. Good fun.
Jozsef Nyeste — Google review
Looks much better from the city than it does from inside the walls. Incredible that someone who loves the history can destroy such a historic castle. Renovations are done in awful way and it's actually being modernized and some parts are being added that weren't part of the actual castle. While you walk inside the walls, you can see newer buildings in the castle from that are from different ages and not the same architecture styles. Same goes for cannons. Seriously, stop destroying this castle and if you are doing some works, should keep things and the castle how they actually were in the history. Everything else is just architecture genocide. Looks like someone is strictly after tourists and doesn't care much about preserving this part of history.
Karlo Dekanic — Google review
Very beautiful castle. Many small details. Bring time and join the guided tours.
ZerTerO — Google review
Visited in Winter, so pretty sparse. The castle is representative of the vibe in Hungary, massive history without a whole lot of explanation. Better experience if you do a bit of research before you go.
josie boyle — Google review
We have now visited many castles across Europe. This is one of the few that we have seen that have been fully renovated to perfection. The customer service was very slow and hard to communicate in english This may not be the most visually impressive castle/ fortress around, especially from the outside. But it has many impressive rooms, exhibitions, displays and events on offer. We loved the weapons exhibition which had the highest quality collection I have seen. We also highly recommend paying for entry to the Eger 1552 movie. It was really high quality and a good short film to watch.
T Ryan — Google review
Not as good as many other castles we have visited. The ticket office is super slow, you can get up on parts of the ramparts and there are different "museums" with different themes and artifacts, including the max models which you have to pay extra for. Overloaded with tourists which always takes a bit of shine off.
Jarrod Hunt — Google review
An absolute MUST see place when visiting Eger! Enormous history will wait for you. Make sure you'll wear a very comfy footwear! Also, there is a certain tour which requires an additional ticket to purchase. The ticket prices are ridiculously low! You'll get a stunning view of the entire city! There are smaller vendors for refreshments, restaurant within. Exploring the entire castle will take a few hours, and it is worth every second!
Gizella Juhasz — Google review
Beautiful place for kids and adults to enjoy. Not much general history about the castle itself only the period of captain Dobo's time. Limited food access. Facilities not accessible for wheelchair or disabled users. Archaeological discoveries are positioned in the upper part of the museum, with high stair, so difficult to climb. Perhaps the castle would benefit to move it to the ground level so everyone is able to see it.

Macok Bistro is a delicious and high-end restaurant in the city centre of Eger. The food here is definitely worth trying, and the atmosphere is very relaxing and romantic.
It's been 12 years since coming to Eger. The amazing pictures you see in photos are real and yes the food is really that good. The service is outstanding. This is well worth making a trip here...and make reservations if you need to for a table. A must do dining experience.

Excellent restaurant. Very good food, high quality ingredients, nice presentation and a friendly and professional service. Good drinks too. One of the best restaurants in this region of Hungary. Very pleasant place in the old city center of Eger. I recommend going only if you have prior reservation as they are full constantly. The staff is nice and helpful, ambiance is good. The food is good but when we were there it seemed like everyone had to wait like 50 min to get their order. Drinks are brought out quickly. The risotto did not seem to be made with risotto rice it more a rice dish than a real risotto.
Rebeka Havasi — Google review
The food is good and presented in a more fancy way, I wouldn’t say the flavours are very unique so don’t expect anything too crazy. Prices aren’t that much higher if you compare it to other Hungarian restaurants which is good.

We visited Macok Bistro during Étterem Hét period, I was very excited for this visit as many people recommended this place. Sadly, my expectations were beyond the experience. Macok location is just perfect indeed, you can even see Eger Castle from inside. However, some tables are so close to each other that chairs are not possible to move at all! The atmosphere inside is pleasant but service is not friendly or attentive. When we mentioned our reservation, waiter pointed to some generic direction and we had to ask another waiter to confirm our exact table. Food was delicious but quite average, desserts were the most delicious part of 3 course meal. Between starters and main dishes we waited for around 20 mins - that was a surprise and nobody mentioned the waiting time to us. We were satisfied with the dinner but left upset as it was different from our expectations.

This place was the highlight of our Eger trip. We tried the St. Andrea “Örökké” wine based on the recommendation of the waiter, which is a local dry white - and it was amazing. The food was also superb. Plates were nice quality too. It’s clearly an up and coming restaurant, they make awesome food. We wish them great success and hope to return in the future.

What a lovely experience! We had dinner - duck breast and strout, and the dishes were prepared perfectly, and the plating was really pretty! Fortunately we had some room for dessert, tried the chocolate lava cake and the chocolate ball. Both fantastic. The servers were kind and helpful, the atmosphere was inviting. Do reserve a table if you are coming for dinner on a weekend, they were full.

Good quality traditional Hungarian food in the historic city of Eger. Very nicely served making sure the plate looks as good as it tastes. The only thing is that they dont have any iphone charger to help out guests. So make sure you are fully charged, otherwise you will have hard time hoing home.

Okay I was really excited about this place, and I wanted to give it higher stars but I just really couldnt. The service was so bad that it really ruined the experience. We ordered the pumpin soup, cream and spreads plate, beef cheek, pork ribs, and apple pie. The pumpkin soup was good, but not too my liking, was way too sweet but thats just my personal preference. The spreads plate was delicious, and the baguette that comes with it was perfect. The tapenade was my favorite. This was my favorite plate that we had here. The beef cheek and pork ribs were both really soft, but again not too my liking. We couldnt finish either plates because we just didnt enjoy it. The apple pie was really nothing special, except looking pretty. Not too much flavor at all. Okay now the service. Our server was my least favorite part of the whole experience. He was not courteous, did not try to suggest any items, when we asked about wine, he suggested the most expensive glass. He took other tables coats but our just left with us. He did not make us feel welcome at all, and that really brought our whole experience down. Also I do have to say giving a butter knife with meat was very annoying. My husband was at the restaurant a few years ago before it got any stars and really enjoyed it, which is why we came back. But I guess since then they decided that service was not the most important thing anymore. Anyways, I will not come back and would not recommend this place.

It was extremely cold inside and in the toilet like just 5°C. We were with kids and this place isn't a kids or family friendly place. Supposedly, this is an Italian place but I don't think that any of the people working there they ever had an Italian pizza. Prices were OK, and service too. From our point of view, we cannot recommend this place.

This pizzeria is not something special but the pizza is very tasty. Also the service is not something exceptional but this place has an air of autheniticity which gives you at the end an overall feeling of satisfaction.

Decided to eat here for lunch since the reviews were so good. Positives: The food itself was wonderful and the prices are affordable. Negatives: The outdoor seating area needs an upgrade; the servers acted like he didn't want to be there

Very tasty, thin crust pizza with various toppings and loots of cheese ;) The service is fast and they're very polite. They don't take card unfortunately. P.S. We spent 3 days in Eger, we ate here twice.

Ordered pizza delivery here, it was super quick. The delivery boy was polite and professional. The pizza was good too.

Great pizza, huge size, decently priced and perfectly made. A must visit! Although, because it tastes so great, it gets really busy and you may need to sit outside.

The taste and the quality of the pizza was certainly a far cry from any of the Canadian (or American) pizzas, though o am sure they are trying to improve. I think they should have the option of serving thick base (dough) pizza and perhaps with Alfredo sauce as well. It would skyrocket their business like never before, I am sure.

Tried the orange sauce + chili pizza here, made in Italian style. It was amazing!

Good place in the city centre, BUT we waited for the 2 pizzas for 40 minutes. The pizza was good and there was no capricosa. We had to pay the 7% tip for service even though there was no servise at all.

The HBH Sörház és Étterem restaurant is a great place to enjoy Hungarian food and drinks. The Ox tail soup is a must-try, and the other dishes are also very good. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices are reasonable.
Always a pleasure to eat here. Perfect place with Drafted Beer, good wines and very good price performance Ratio for the Menus. An interesting Tip is spareribs and the incredible desserts like Somlói Galuska. There is also a daily menu with changing Dishes.

We ordered mixed meals, it comes with super quantity, much more than capacity, my mistake. Goulash with very good taste. Had 2x beers, Reketye Wheat Beer, is super good!

Me and two friends arrived at this wonderful restaurant and got very nicely treated by the waiter Norbert! It was one of our best experiences at a restaurant all because of Norbert! He was very understanding and helped us a lot with the menus. Furthermore, the food was delicious and the service even better! Great experience

Quite a long wait for food, but worth the wait. The dishes are unique, attractive and, most importantly, tasty.

We were with a large group and had to order everything in advance. The food was alright, but the vegetarian menu basically only consisted of cheese - cheese cream soup, breaded goat cheese and cheese cake. A little more variety would not have hurt.

We had craving for soup for some reason, to be honest at first I thought that we night not be at the right place, but sure we were. Their signature soup, the Ox tail soup is one of a kind, if you like meat soups, it is a must to taste. All the other things we tried were good, but this particular was just impossible to beat. Staff were nice and friendly and even prices were good. I don't give out 5 stars ratings easily, but this place will deserves it, highly recommended!

We had lunch there yesterday. I have never had such delicious goose legs! The purple cabbage was also prepared just the way I like it. The waiters were kind, attentive and skilful. They pass on the praise of the food to the kitchen, and our waiter thanked us for the tip on behalf of the whole team, very fair. And the manager seemed to know many of the guests personally :) Will definitely visit again!

Fanulous food, good in house beer I really liked the infiltered.. I had never had goose before. The goose leg was so delicious crisp on the outside and juicy inside. Great variety, lively environment. Make a reservation on the weekend for sure

It seems they heat up food with microwave. There is no care in giving the food the right temperature. The goulash soup was too cold (~40C), the risotto rice burning hot on a cold plate, much hotter than when it directly comes out of a pan when you would properly cook it. The smoked chicken breast was so horrible in taste and consistency (dry, rubbery). It smelled wasted/old and it seems the also rather bad smoke taste is just added to cover the bad taste of the meat - absolutely not comparable to juicy chicken I do on a charcoal grill (100% beech) with some smoky flavour myself. I left the chicken almost untouched after trying some bites. The lemonade was served at room temperature. There was no apology or discount given from the service when I complained.

The food is perfect, just delicious. While being in Eger we had some goulash soup, pork neck with lecho, chicken in parmezan, goose leg, wild boar stew, coated chicken with four- cheese sauce, beef cheeks, big schnitzel, chocolste trilogy and cheesecake as well as different wines every day and I must say the dishes looked good and tasted good. The place is centrally located and quite busy so after getting there for the first time with no table available we made reservations for the next days. The service was good but it took us time to get used to the fact that you are served by different waiters on one day which other countries visitors may find strange but we took to it and we give it 5 stars. You wait long for the food but it is worth it. Surely we’ll put it on our favourites’ list.

Dear Reader! We arrived yesterday evening to have a light dinner with our child. We ordered soup, which arrived on time and was as per expected. Not great, not terrible. For our son we ordered risotto. After waiting 30-40 minutes, still nothing we asked about it. The waitress asked the kitchen. As it was already time for us to leave we asked it to be packed fir takeaway directly. Unfortunately we haven’t checked the food in the box right there. On the bottom unboiled rice, crispy, and on the top pieces of dryish beef pieces. See the photo for yourself. I don’t want to make any guesses what happened, but it’s definitely not on track.

Very busy place, you should have reservation for safe. The dinner was perfect for that pricepoint. Big dishes.

Value for price is good. The duck liver pate is fantastic. Portions are quite generous, we were not able to finish them. The meats were well prepared, the garnishing salad was a bit sad and soggy. The waiters could pay a bit more attention to the guests. The place is quite packed, you might want to reserve a table in advance.

BoriMami is an exceptional fine dining establishment not only in the area but also in the entire country. The service provided by the staff is truly outstanding, and the chef's culinary skills are nothing short of magical. The presentation of the dishes sets a high standard, but it is easily surpassed by their incredible taste. One must try their wild boar and chocolate fondant, as they are superbly prepared.
Lovely place and perfectly delicious meals. Nice and kind service gives you a totally satisfying feeling. Well-recommended!

I’m so curious why the rating is under 5.0 star. It has to be 5 stars! The food is amazing .. like really really good even the coffee is really nice plus great service. Nice atmosphere even every detail in the restaurant seemed to be perfect… they have a good taste! I would definitely come back in the future!

A must try fine dining place around the area and I dare to add - in the country! The service is excellent and the chef does some magic in kitchen. Presentation sets the bar high but the taste beats it! I went with the wild boar and the choc fondant - Superb! Go with the wine the gentlemen recommends, it will be a perfect match! Thanks for the excellent dinner BoriMami! Cheers Lajos

The restaurant 1552 Étterem offers a fantastic and delicious gastronomic experience. The dishes are well prepared and the service is great. The only downside might be the temporary lack of drink selection.
Nice atmosphere and located within the Eger castle. Our main dishes were very tasty and so was the dessert. The service was friendly and correct and the price lvl is very much okay too.

Amazing! We over heard other tourists sitting nearby about an excellent restaurant in the citadel and we’re glad we discovered it! The ambiance is exquisite. Photos don’t do it justice. The decor along with the choice of music is both enticing and relaxing. We were fortunate that we, with the exception of 3 ladies sitting in a corner, were the only ones there. We were warmly greeted and seated by a window as requested. The menu has something for every palate. Not only were the portions satisfying but the quality of our meal was outstanding in both presentation and flavour. The sour cherry beer is a must have. Dining here was a memorable experience indeed. The only drawback is having to pay the entrance fee to the castle each time you go there even if you don’t want to visit the grounds. Which by the way are mostly closed for renovations. So it’s a 7500 ft for two surcharge to the cost of the meal. But with that said, we strongly recommend pushing pass this and indulge yourself to eat at what we think is Eger’s best place to dine. This restaurant accentuates and is infused with the charm of Eger.

Our dinner at 1552 Étterem was marvelous. The ambiance was superb, the waiters were professional and attentive. The restaurant has an ideal location near Egri Vár, perfect for visiting tourists. Above all, the meals were delicious. The buffalo goulash soup and Taste of Bükk starters were above our expectation. Oh and the angus beef filet mignon was phenomenal! Since Eger is a wine region, the waiters were knowledgeable in suggesting good wine pairings with the dishes. The food was so good that we just dived in and finished eating before we realized that we forgot to take photos. Overall, it was an amazing gastronomical experience and we will certainly keep coming back! Thank you 1552 Étterem! -Joy

The most outstanding gastronomic experience for a while. We tried Hortobágy pancakes as appetizer, duck-duo and game meat stew as main dish and also some dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was also fine despite of the temporary shortage of drink selection.

My trout dish was good; the chicken was even better. I was not really happy with the appetiser ; I found a big bone on my pâté. And I really haben touched the liver as well bcz of the big fat layer fat on it, The staffs were really nice and caring; The place is better for families who can let the kids play outside; a bit noisy for me.

Delicious dinner, I haven't had such good dishes for a long time! We recommend pork in mustard and sour cherry beer, which is perfect for a warm day. The service and atmosphere is very nice.

This visit was one of my best culinary experiences ever. The environment, taste and look of the meal and the service were absolutely top! Fruit soup is a dish you should try because it’s not something you can get in many restaurants. The prices are reasonable for the meals they offer (chicken 3490 HUF, trout 3850 HUF if I remember).

Good traditional food, with friendly staff and beautiful view. They take cards and speak English, if you wish. Good wine selection and normal beer menu. Everything there looks delicious. It is inside the castle, so if you sit next to the window, you may have a great view
