Excellent restaurant. Very good food, high quality ingredients, nice presentation and a friendly and professional service. Good drinks too. One of the best restaurants in this region of Hungary. The place is pretty and neat, with a nice garden out back, beautifully located near the castle. Well worth a visit when you are staying in or passing Eger.

Almost best place to eat in Eger; quality of the food and design of the dish was really good; combination of the tastes would really leave you a pleasant experience. The staffs were kind and caring. I am happy that I have tried this place.

Very pleasant place in the old city center of Eger. I recommend going only if you have prior reservation as they are full constantly. The staff is nice and helpful, ambiance is good. The food is good but when we were there it seemed like everyone had to wait like 50 min to get their order. Drinks are brought out quickly. The risotto did not seem to be made with risotto rice it more a rice dish than a real risotto.

The food is good and presented in a more fancy way, I wouldn’t say the flavours are very unique so don’t expect anything too crazy. Prices aren’t that much higher if you compare it to other Hungarian restaurants which is good.

We visited Macok Bistro during Étterem Hét period, I was very excited for this visit as many people recommended this place. Sadly, my expectations were beyond the experience. Macok location is just perfect indeed, you can even see Eger Castle from inside. However, some tables are so close to each other that chairs are not possible to move at all! The atmosphere inside is pleasant but service is not friendly or attentive. When we mentioned our reservation, waiter pointed to some generic direction and we had to ask another waiter to confirm our exact table. Food was delicious but quite average, desserts were the most delicious part of 3 course meal. Between starters and main dishes we waited for around 20 mins - that was a surprise and nobody mentioned the waiting time to us. We were satisfied with the dinner but left upset as it was different from our expectations.

This place was the highlight of our Eger trip. We tried the St. Andrea “Örökké” wine based on the recommendation of the waiter, which is a local dry white - and it was amazing. The food was also superb. Plates were nice quality too. It’s clearly an up and coming restaurant, they make awesome food. We wish them great success and hope to return in the future.

What a lovely experience! We had dinner - duck breast and strout, and the dishes were prepared perfectly, and the plating was really pretty! Fortunately we had some room for dessert, tried the chocolate lava cake and the chocolate ball. Both fantastic. The servers were kind and helpful, the atmosphere was inviting. Do reserve a table if you are coming for dinner on a weekend, they were full.

Went here for the 3rd time already. One of the best restaurants outside Budapest, and certainly the best in the narrower region. Classic Hungarian dishes with a twist, but still recognizable. Bistro style, still very decent portions. Attentive service, great wine selection.

The food was formidable!!! It was really delicious. We enjoyed our visit. Price-quality wise was definitely good, no complaints. Also I have a allergy and they help us very well.

I feel that 5 stars are not enough for this place. We do not live in Eger, but we always find an occasion for a trip to be able to dine here. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff is super friendly and helpful, and the dishes are of excellent quality. Everyone should try out this experience that this restaurant offers. Good quality traditional Hungarian food in the historic city of Eger. Very nicely served making sure the plate looks as good as it tastes. The only thing is that they dont have any iphone charger to help out guests. So make sure you are fully charged, otherwise you will have hard time hoing home.

Okay I was really excited about this place, and I wanted to give it higher stars but I just really couldnt. The service was so bad that it really ruined the experience. We ordered the pumpin soup, cream and spreads plate, beef cheek, pork ribs, and apple pie. The pumpkin soup was good, but not too my liking, was way too sweet but thats just my personal preference. The spreads plate was delicious, and the baguette that comes with it was perfect. The tapenade was my favorite. This was my favorite plate that we had here. The beef cheek and pork ribs were both really soft, but again not too my liking. We couldnt finish either plates because we just didnt enjoy it. The apple pie was really nothing special, except looking pretty. Not too much flavor at all. Okay now the service. Our server was my least favorite part of the whole experience. He was not courteous, did not try to suggest any items, when we asked about wine, he suggested the most expensive glass. He took other tables coats but our just left with us. He did not make us feel welcome at all, and that really brought our whole experience down. Also I do have to say giving a butter knife with meat was very annoying. My husband was at the restaurant a few years ago before it got any stars and really enjoyed it, which is why we came back. But I guess since then they decided that service was not the most important thing anymore. Anyways, I will not come back and would not recommend this place.

Beautiful place, wonderful experience! We had a six-course degustation meal with matching wines. The presentation was perfect, and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend it to anyone, but don't forget to make a booking as it might be fully booked.

Visited Eger and had a really good lunch here. Food well prepared and very tasty.

It was extremely cold inside and in the toilet like just 5°C. We were with kids and this place isn't a kids or family friendly place. Supposedly, this is an Italian place but I don't think that any of the people working there they ever had an Italian pizza. Prices were OK, and service too. From our point of view, we cannot recommend this place.

This pizzeria is not something special but the pizza is very tasty. Also the service is not something exceptional but this place has an air of autheniticity which gives you at the end an overall feeling of satisfaction.

Great pizza, huge size, decently priced and perfectly made. A must visit! Although, because it tastes so great, it gets really busy and you may need to sit outside.

The taste and the quality of the pizza was certainly a far cry from any of the Canadian (or American) pizzas, though o am sure they are trying to improve. I think they should have the option of serving thick base (dough) pizza and perhaps with Alfredo sauce as well. It would skyrocket their business like never before, I am sure.

Good place in the city centre, BUT we waited for the 2 pizzas for 40 minutes. The pizza was good and there was no capricosa. We had to pay the 7% tip for service even though there was no servise at all.

We ordered mixed meals, it comes with super quantity, much more than capacity, my mistake. Goulash with very good taste. Had 2x beers, Reketye Wheat Beer, is super good!

Me and two friends arrived at this wonderful restaurant and got very nicely treated by the waiter Norbert! It was one of our best experiences at a restaurant all because of Norbert! He was very understanding and helped us a lot with the menus. Furthermore, the food was delicious and the service even better! Great experience

Quite a long wait for food, but worth the wait. The dishes are unique, attractive and, most importantly, tasty.

We were with a large group and had to order everything in advance. The food was alright, but the vegetarian menu basically only consisted of cheese - cheese cream soup, breaded goat cheese and cheese cake. A little more variety would not have hurt.

We had craving for soup for some reason, to be honest at first I thought that we night not be at the right place, but sure we were. Their signature soup, the Ox tail soup is one of a kind, if you like meat soups, it is a must to taste. All the other things we tried were good, but this particular was just impossible to beat. Staff were nice and friendly and even prices were good. I don't give out 5 stars ratings easily, but this place will deserves it, highly recommended!

We had lunch there yesterday. I have never had such delicious goose legs! The purple cabbage was also prepared just the way I like it. The waiters were kind, attentive and skilful. They pass on the praise of the food to the kitchen, and our waiter thanked us for the tip on behalf of the whole team, very fair. And the manager seemed to know many of the guests personally :) Will definitely visit again!

Fanulous food, good in house beer I really liked the infiltered.. I had never had goose before. The goose leg was so delicious crisp on the outside and juicy inside. Great variety, lively environment. Make a reservation on the weekend for sure

It seems they heat up food with microwave. There is no care in giving the food the right temperature. The goulash soup was too cold (~40C), the risotto rice burning hot on a cold plate, much hotter than when it directly comes out of a pan when you would properly cook it. The smoked chicken breast was so horrible in taste and consistency (dry, rubbery). It smelled wasted/old and it seems the also rather bad smoke taste is just added to cover the bad taste of the meat - absolutely not comparable to juicy chicken I do on a charcoal grill (100% beech) with some smoky flavour myself. I left the chicken almost untouched after trying some bites. The lemonade was served at room temperature. There was no apology or discount given from the service when I complained.

The food is perfect, just delicious. While being in Eger we had some goulash soup, pork neck with lecho, chicken in parmezan, goose leg, wild boar stew, coated chicken with four- cheese sauce, beef cheeks, big schnitzel, chocolste trilogy and cheesecake as well as different wines every day and I must say the dishes looked good and tasted good. The place is centrally located and quite busy so after getting there for the first time with no table available we made reservations for the next days. The service was good but it took us time to get used to the fact that you are served by different waiters on one day which other countries visitors may find strange but we took to it and we give it 5 stars. You wait long for the food but it is worth it. Surely we’ll put it on our favourites’ list.

Dear Reader! We arrived yesterday evening to have a light dinner with our child. We ordered soup, which arrived on time and was as per expected. Not great, not terrible. For our son we ordered risotto. After waiting 30-40 minutes, still nothing we asked about it. The waitress asked the kitchen. As it was already time for us to leave we asked it to be packed fir takeaway directly. Unfortunately we haven’t checked the food in the box right there. On the bottom unboiled rice, crispy, and on the top pieces of dryish beef pieces. See the photo for yourself. I don’t want to make any guesses what happened, but it’s definitely not on track.

Very busy place, you should have reservation for safe. The dinner was perfect for that pricepoint. Big dishes.

Value for price is good. The duck liver pate is fantastic. Portions are quite generous, we were not able to finish them. The meats were well prepared, the garnishing salad was a bit sad and soggy. The waiters could pay a bit more attention to the guests. The place is quite packed, you might want to reserve a table in advance.

I’m so curious why the rating is under 5.0 star. It has to be 5 stars! The food is amazing .. like really really good even the coffee is really nice plus great service. Nice atmosphere even every detail in the restaurant seemed to be perfect… they have a good taste! I would definitely come back in the future!

A must try fine dining place around the area and I dare to add - in the country! The service is excellent and the chef does some magic in kitchen. Presentation sets the bar high but the taste beats it! I went with the wild boar and the choc fondant - Superb! Go with the wine the gentlemen recommends, it will be a perfect match! Amazing! We over heard other tourists sitting nearby about an excellent restaurant in the citadel and we’re glad we discovered it! The ambiance is exquisite. Photos don’t do it justice. The decor along with the choice of music is both enticing and relaxing. We were fortunate that we, with the exception of 3 ladies sitting in a corner, were the only ones there. We were warmly greeted and seated by a window as requested. The menu has something for every palate. Not only were the portions satisfying but the quality of our meal was outstanding in both presentation and flavour. The sour cherry beer is a must have. Dining here was a memorable experience indeed. The only drawback is having to pay the entrance fee to the castle each time you go there even if you don’t want to visit the grounds. Which by the way are mostly closed for renovations. So it’s a 7500 ft for two surcharge to the cost of the meal. But with that said, we strongly recommend pushing pass this and indulge yourself to eat at what we think is Eger’s best place to dine. This restaurant accentuates and is infused with the charm of Eger.

Our dinner at 1552 Étterem was marvelous. The ambiance was superb, the waiters were professional and attentive. The restaurant has an ideal location near Egri Vár, perfect for visiting tourists. Above all, the meals were delicious. The buffalo goulash soup and Taste of Bükk starters were above our expectation. Oh and the angus beef filet mignon was phenomenal! Since Eger is a wine region, the waiters were knowledgeable in suggesting good wine pairings with the dishes. The food was so good that we just dived in and finished eating before we realized that we forgot to take photos. The most outstanding gastronomic experience for a while. We tried Hortobágy pancakes as appetizer, duck-duo and game meat stew as main dish and also some dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was also fine despite of the temporary shortage of drink selection.

My trout dish was good; the chicken was even better. I was not really happy with the appetiser ; I found a big bone on my pâté. And I really haben touched the liver as well bcz of the big fat layer fat on it, The staffs were really nice and caring; The place is better for families who can let the kids play outside; a bit noisy for me.

Delicious dinner, I haven't had such good dishes for a long time! We recommend pork in mustard and sour cherry beer, which is perfect for a warm day. The service and atmosphere is very nice.

This visit was one of my best culinary experiences ever. The environment, taste and look of the meal and the service were absolutely top! Fruit soup is a dish you should try because it’s not something you can get in many restaurants. The prices are reasonable for the meals they offer (chicken 3490 HUF, trout 3850 HUF if I remember).

Good traditional food, with friendly staff and beautiful view. They take cards and speak English, if you wish. Good wine selection and normal beer menu. Everything there looks delicious. It is inside the castle, so if you sit next to the window, you may have a great view
