Pilanesberg National Park

Mentioned on
National park
Nature & Parks
Pilanesberg National Park is a vast game reserve spanning over 550 square kilometers and home to more than 7000 animals. The park is situated in an eroded alkaline crater between the Kalahari and wet lowveld vegetation, providing a picturesque setting for viewing South African wildlife such as lions and buffaloes. Originally designed as a weekend escape for city dwellers, Pilanesberg remains a popular destination for day-trippers seeking to explore the park's natural beauty.
My second trip and really worth the trip, beautiful landscapes and saw many different animals. There are lookout points with clean toilets which is the only place permitted to get out of your vehicle due to the wild animals. I can't wait to go again.
Eoudia Chadinha — Google review
My partner and I had such a good time (self-drive) at the park although it took us hours to see anything but at the end patience worked in our favour. I am definitely going back for a game drive. I just wish some of the roads can be fixed and the toilets inside the park be cleaned regularly.
Maria Mokoena — Google review
Beautiful quite game reserve with some great game and stunning birds. A reasonable drive from Joburg with upmarket accommodations just outside the park. Only major negative is that the roads can be worse for wear which can be tough especially on the dirt roads in a car.
Gidi Fihrer — Google review
Good park with good game viewing although a little sparse. I recommend getting out the car at all the viewing sites. Great bird life and unique landscapes.
Buyisiwe Shongwe — Google review
I would recommend it to everyone; the experience was great. we were a group of 9. We saw lots of elephants and both black and white rhinos, along with rhinos. The restaurant area is so cool because you still get a good view to spot animals. Bring drinks for the drive, but water is provided, which i am absolutely grateful for as it was kept cold in the cooler.
Katlego “Soul” Malatji — Google review
Beautiful park with endless animal sightings. Had a very close encounter with elephants which was amazing! It's rich in bird life and we were lucky enough to spot so many animals only the leopard remained elusive. Lunch was nice, had a tasty ostrich burger while still enjoying wildlife from the resturant! This park is definitely worth visiting its truly a gem
Lerato Mkwanazi — Google review
The scenery is breathtaking and patience rewards the game viewer. There is however an air of neglect regarding maintenance and standards at the facilities. How different the reserve would be if some thought was applied to making the experience more tourist friendly. More effective management would make the place more desirable and more people would visit and more money would be spent.
Wade Pretorius — Google review
Early 5:00 a.m. morning Safari It's chilly but definitely beautiful. I was able to capture some sunrises and sun settings. The animals were exceptionally a lifetime experience and I am so grateful I was able to experience it. The tour guides were exceptionally knowledgeable and I thank them all.
Brook Roberson — Google review
The park is quite large and has a lot of roads to try. There are more than enough animals to see. I saw most of the big 5. The conservation fee is minimal to get into the park.
Warren Steyn — Google review
Very, very nice park.... we went in there 3 times in 2 days and every time a different track and a lot and great variety of animals....
Jan Bredewoud — Google review
Thank you very much to my colleagues for arranging this trip before I return to my home country. Pilanesberg is a very worthwhile park to visit, where you can see animals such as elephants, giraffes, and zebras. You can enter the park in an off-road vehicle, and many animals pass by. You can observe up close, which is really an exciting experience.
Jinhong Lin — Google review
Brilliant national park! Pilanesberg has clean restrooms at all the bird hides, all the roads are in a fine condition after all the rain (they are currently fixing potholes), the animals are beautiful and healthy. It is well priced for day visitors.
Charlene Cilliers — Google review
I absolutely love this place. If you love safari, I would recommend this place over Kruger National Park any day. Instead of being faced by ridiculous prices and long drives just to see nothing. You'll find this place booming with wildlife! You'll have a great chance of seeing the Big 5, and it's close to Sun City if you have an itch to go to the casino! Reasonable prices, great facilities, and a park that caters to wildlife enthusiasts! What more do you want? The only thing to be careful with is the overpriced "African" art produced by factories elsewhere being constantly pushed on you at the gates. It's a huge scam for your money so be careful! Rather, support the park by buying inside!
Emil Large — Google review
Amazing and surreal experience, seeing all these animals in their natural habitat, we went for the early morning before sunrise tour and lemme tell it was so cold specially cuz it was winters too so carry gloves and a nice beanie or something to cover yourself, and we were lucky enough to spot 4/5 Big Fives, and I also lost my airpods while trying to photograph them beauties but that's on me😂🥲, go for either sunrise or sunset, its amazing
Aryan Tandon — Google review
Thank you for the mahala week offer. We had a lovely drive and saw various animals. Pitty the 2nd year not seeing any lions. Had a lovely pick nick at one of the water holes. The shop is just overpriced.
christine jansen van vuuren — Google review
Amazing experience, the National Park is huge and hold a variety of amazing animals including the big 5. The tour guide was amazing, interactive and very informative. Light lunch was provided including tea or coffee.
Mpho Matsheketsheke — Google review
The most fantastic hotel I have ever stayed at. Great and considerate staff. Wonderful food. And the zebra, monkey's and giraffe wandering wild around the grounds was a sight to see. Would definitely recommend this hotel
JENNY LONG — Google review
It was our lucky day, we saw the big five in 3 hours! And saw three of them in 45 min. It was very nice and the tour guide was very nice and friendly, I would definitely recommend coming.
Itumeleng Kgololo — Google review
Amazing game drive in your own vehicle allows you to watch all the animals in your own time. It's definitely worth visiting
johlene sander — Google review
This poor park is in a dire situation, the roads all need to be redone. A fire took out half of the accommodation. There is no signal to pay anything by card at the restaurants etc. They had a drain leak, no electricity for long periods and the campsite ablutions are in a bad state. The wildlife is still there and some good sightings can be achieved.
Francois Kruger — Google review
Fabulous park with wonderful scenery and knowledgeable guides. We saw so many animals we lost count around 50 species. The highlights were the elephants, lions and zebra.
Jeff Bulled — Google review
An incredible national park for the safari lover. We were blessed to see some of the amazing animals throughout the park during the entire trip. This was bucket list stuff!

Valley of Waves

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
The Valley of Waves is an exciting water park that features a lazy river, thrilling slides, wave pool and children's area with lifeguards. It offers a wonderful experience for families looking for fun outings. Visitors are advised to try out every water slide, and they can keep their small valuables safe by renting lockers (cash only) or umbrellas. Payment at the park is made using cards only when purchasing snacks or food.
Best place for family, kids love the waves. It is very clean. There is Steers and Brew Monkey if you need something to eat or drink. NB: no alcohol allowed on the beach there are designated area. If you forgot your towel don't worry they have a rental shop where you can rent clean towels and lockers, Lots of entertainment and fun
Mimi Schalk — Google review
I found the location to be quite delightful and rejuvenating. My family and I were able to experience all of the available rides and particularly enjoyed the lazy river. It's worth noting that when renting a locker, only cash is accepted. The Family locker is priced at R350 including a R100 refundable deposit and the standard locker is R250 also with refundable deposit. We left most of our belongings in the beach area and were pleased to find them untouched upon our departure. I would like to extend my appreciation to the lifeguards on duty for their diligence and commitment to ensuring the safety of all guests.
Murendeni Thovhakale — Google review
Great place. We had so much fun. I just wish there could be a heated pool for the young ones. The water does get to be a bit cold at times. Other than that we had fun. The life guards by the slides where so helpful. Also it should be noted that visiting during weekdays is best as it gets crowded over the weekend.
Boniface Mashabela — Google review
Amazing fun, the wave pool was so nice, but I went in the wrong month 😂, the water was freezing but it was still fun nonetheless nice Ambience and I like the sand they used too, gave it a nice artificial realistic beach kinda vibe too and the slides too were really fun
Aryan Tandon — Google review
Absolutely Gorgeous! It never disappoints. Went with Friends last year and Family this and it still had the same effect. Totally enjoyed my day visit and will certainly be making it a norm yearly. Totally worth the visit without a doubt! Oh I love the greenery too!
Kuki Ramz — Google review
First time and had fun with family. What an experience to be in a huge swimming pool with waves. Everything is money in the valley of waves. From the umbrella you hire and to get a nice spot on the beach you need to be there early as there was first come first basis for other items on the day. Need to go again.
Matlou Ngoasheng — Google review
Enjoyed the hospitality and service at the resort. Very friendly staff all around. We had some requests to the room booking and it was easily adjusted for us with no issues. Other then that its always a fun experience at the Valley of the waves wirh lots of memories to be made with family
Mirza ?Farhie? Baig — Google review
R450 entrance fee is steep and food is expensive. No food or drinks may be taken in. It’s a most enjoyable day though! Sand is quite rough but the wave is good fun and the water slides are excellent - from gentle to blow your hair back!!
Chris Nursey — Google review
Best place to be anytime of the year. Feels like you on an island 🏝 There's a bar, some restaurants, zip line, slides, tube floats and more. It's just a vibe.
Meleece VanLendt — Google review
Valley of the waves was one of the fun sites that I visited on my trip to the Sun City resort in South Africa. It has the beach feel with animals crafted from rock/mud and some satisfying sound playing subtly in the background. It's an amazing place to visit with friends and family. There's a lot to eat and drink too. Different water bodies and a pool that I believe has artificial waves. Overall, it's an experience that I would love to have again!
Utman Olanrewaju — Google review
Wonderful Experience!!! Enjoyed every moment at the valley of the waves. Ensure you try out every body and tube water slide. Highly recommended for a fun family outing, Safe lockers available for small valuables, also beach umbrella's available to rent... ensure you carry Cash and your Cards regarding for payment as to rent a locker/umbrella cash is required and to purchase general snacks or food cards only are used for payment. Another tip would be to have a water proof action camera to capture your fun moments in the water riding some waves or trying out the water slides.
Jaimie Sigamoney — Google review
When the sun is out and you want to play as a family, this is the place to go. Sun City truly is a world within a city. So much to do; Valley of Waves, water slides, water skiing, quad biking, garden walks, etc. Bit pricey for a day visit though (R450 for adults and R350 for children up to 12years old in October 2022). The fee did include about R80 per person food voucher that can be used in the restaurants. Lots of parking available.
Tariro Mlanda — Google review
The Valley of the waves has always been a have-to-do at Sun City. Love the excitement. The swimming pool at the Reception Area is always nice and loved having a quick lunch there. Enjoyable 😊
Louise Terblanche — Google review
Loved, loved, loved 🥰 this place. One of the best man-made beaches I have seen. It’s well thought through with the ancient/ lost city feel. We loved the maze though the bridge was a bit too wobbly for those with height issues. Not sure about the cement floor at the valley of waves because our girls kept scraping their hands, elbows and all. We didn’t want to leave. The waves were intermittent at some points though.
Mzime Murisa — Google review
Had the best birthday celebration ever. We went there to celebrate my birthday and it was a blast as I love playing in the water. I'm definitely going back again
Felicia Nokuthula Mlambo — Google review
We had a wonderful day! Feet were painful. Some steps at the super tube rides lost its surface.from.erosion through the years. The beach sand felt like pebbles under our soles at the end of the day. Most of the shops were closed as well as the beach bar. Wish we knew about the hiking trails earlier on and that you don't particularly need hiking equipment to follow the trails. We discovered the Royal Baths, which we never saw, and some other parts we never knew existed. We also missed out o the actual waves. We found ourselves always out of the water when it came. Wish there was a timetable of some.sorts so we can know. Even though it is said every 90 minutes, it felt longer.
Anita Nel — Google review
You will have your best family experience here. A full day of fun, affordable refreshments and lots of space. Staff and life guards are friendly and overall feeling of safety whilst enjoying one self
Randolph Magerman — Google review
Spent a few hours here with my family at the water park and due to low season we were able to ride the slides to our hearts content. No lines. The wave pool was fun. The entrance to Valley of the waves is really spectacular. There are lots of dining options before you go into the Valley of the Waves. They will give you a stamp to go in and out. Definitely worth visiting. #genxplorers YouTube

This resort is really world class. It's clean and beautiful. Everything works like clock work here. Everyone is more than willing to direct you, should you get lost, which you will lol. The tube rides are sooo much fun! Try everything
Sipho Duma — Google review
A great day out for family entertainment, it provides something for all ages. Various rides for the adrenaline junkies through to relaxing rides for the whole family. The wave pool provides for a sense of the sea hundreds of kilometres from the Indian Ocean. Can get really busy so recommend visiting during the week.
Bruser NZ — Google review
Great fun for the whole family. The main feature is the huge wave pool, but there are plenty of water slides and other attractions, as well as access to the Sun City entertainment centre. The huge wave pool is surrounded by a large forest with plenty of trails to explore. An absolute must see.
John Craig — Google review
Was a great day out for both kids and adults. Would recommend investing in wet shoes as the ground gets super hot as you walking between rides. It was crowded when we visited as it was during the festive season, was a manageable crowd. If you come during busy season, arrive early to get a spot that allows for shade or be prepared to rent umbrellas during the hot season. Prices for food are a tad exorbitant (expected), you do however get a voucher (below R100) when you buy a ticket so that ar least helps with meals and snacks. Book ahead of time during peak season as tickets sell out rather quickly. Would definitely go back, perhaps during quiet time. Waiting time for the rides was actually not long, also depending which ride you want to get on. Wave pool was a favorite all-round, everyone was friendly and helpful...even played water volleyball as people waited for the big waves.
Mmaphuti Moholola — Google review
Amazing, fun for the whole family, whether you are old or young, you are guaranteed to enjoy. There is a variety of water activities, from the waves at the main beach to water slides and much more. There are various food outlets, including vendors, so there is no need to leave the premises if you want to enjoy a snack or meal after or before swimming. They do, however, only accept card payments and not physical cash.
Mpho Matsheketsheke — Google review
Very fancy, & a great atmosphere with a lot of friendly company-wide & great staff. There is various things to do. Very expensive to be honest, but worth the time to get away & enjoy with friends & family. I highly recommend Sun City.
AJ Venter — Google review
One of the all time favorites for anyone based in Gauteng. Core memories if you came here as a child too I always enjoy coming for a day visit to Sun City and Valley of the Waves. It never fails to deliver. It's clean, well run (especially by the slides). By the slides it's run well as everyone is insured a turn. No hogging of tubes either Food places are a bit limited and not the best in my opinion (Steers and Wimpy, like really?) And a great vibe as always Although the greater part of Sun City has been showing it needs some TLC Also, the Sky Train? That's been out of commission for how many years now?

What a professional team. The instant I walked into Waterworld to fit a retractable step for my Seadoo GTI, I was firstly greeted by Linda in accessories who organised the step. Then I was brought to Malcolm who could not have done enough for me with the Team in ensuring the fitting was professionally fitted. Kyle and team did the service and explained everything in detail, so as a layman I knew exactly what was being done on my jetski. Excellent service...

Visitors can also take advantage of the zoo's proximity to Sun City and make a day trip out of it. Additionally, the tour guide Joseph provides insightful information about the wildlife on display. Although some maintenance may be necessary, Predator World is certainly worth a visit for animal enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable experience.
Joseph was an amazing Tour guide.. Always a pleasure getting up lose with the wild cats.. Place needs some attention thou but it's a must go
Divya Shah — Google review
I seriously think these animals should be moved! The service, the condition everything was pathetic! It was extremely hot and the white tiger at the entrance had no water in her pool, one pathetic plastic bowl with water was in her cage. The space for these animals are very limited! The pools in most of the other cages was empty and not maintained! How can you keep these poor animals in these cages and conditions! I strongly suggest that they SHUT YOU DOWN!
Yolanda ALLEN — Google review
Heartbreaking to see these beautiful animals penned up in enclosures way to small, with virtually no shade and water, shocking. There is obviously a lack of funding and support from the powders that be to maintain the facilities. The staff were lovely and did their best but due to poor conditions they are fighting a loosing battle. VERY VERY SAD :(
Christine Gubbins — Google review
Not impressed at all at the condition of the little park . Enclosures were in my liking to small. I would really like to see an inspector go out & see if it meets the requirements. Tigers according to our guide Joseph (who was good however talked the talk ) had a little water not bearly enough to accommodate 3 tigers . Didn't get to see their enclosure , felt we were kept away for a reason . 😕 The lonely wolf was a sad affair to see as they normally in packs. Feed back from a wild life inspector would be highly appreciated. Thank you
Ingrid Rossouw — Google review
Tiny enclosures, like smaller than a zoo enclosure, definitely a violation of animal rights. The cats were pacing and showing clear signs distress and upset. They also have clearly been breeding their aniamls which is illegal as they had a cub albino. Shocked and appalled this place exists. I hope their animals are taken away to better care.
leonardo ives — Google review
If it was not for the fact the animals does not have enough water and shade this could be a 5 star attraction. The owners need to invest more to make it a better environment for the animals. Well done to Joseph the guide, you are a star and can see he cares for the animals and want more for them.
Norman Janse Van Rensburg — Google review
I enjoyed our time here, although we did see 👀 some animals- the grass was fairly long, so most of them couldn't really be seen clearly. Our tour guide was absolutely fantastic and friendly- I would totally give her a 5 🌟. They have 2 snakes 🐍 on site - one you are able to carry. There's a shop with curios as well as cooldrinks & other snacks . We also did see a wolf and an ostrich which I didn't really get photos of. Ticket prices were R120pp

Very nice and well kept reserve. The tour with Joseph deserves a special mention - wow! Thanks for the experience and talks from a knowledgeable tour guide. Had agreat time, saw a lot, had a few laughs and a fun time with the family.

They have guided tours every hour. We missed the feeding time, which happen three times per week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The wheelchair didn't work well in the lose soil. It was a great experience for us to see the lions, tigers and other predators closeup.
Jan Calitz — Google review
Thank you Joseph! What an experience. The passion for the animals and the fact that they are so well kept is obvious. Never mind the one or two negative Nancy reviewers, you all deserve so much more! These animals are well fed, fed through a good cause and are all very much loved and appreciated by Joseph. Pilanesberg national has NOTHING on this place. Let's get more support for this place, they are deserving of it 👏 ❤️
Mel — Google review
The only reason I give it 1 star is because of Josef who you can see is passionate about the animals. The rest was only heartbreaking. This place really needs some attention and these cats need better. The poor wolf is all on his own he just sits at the corner of his cage, all day. The tigers have ponds but they are empty… I didn’t feel safe with my small children purely because of how run down it was I was worried because so many of them got up to come see my boy and I didn’t trust that firstly the cage would hold up on a serious effort or that anything would be done if it happened. Very very sad and I appeal to the owners to have a heart and give more to these beautiful animals seeing as you chose to bring them into this world of captivity, it’s your duty to them.
Lauren Rossouw — Google review
What a lovely place to visit. Joseph was our guide and was very informative. Beautiful big cats! Feeding takes place on Thursdays and Saturdays. Close to Sun City, treat yourselves!
Alta Panagiotopoulos — Google review
Horrible experience…. ZERO stars They have a good range of cats, But I don’t understand why have Meerkats and Mongoose caged up. No clean water for the animals. The place is not kept up and looks run down. Weeds everywhere! Tour guide and staff are clueless. Can’t help but left with an impression that the owners just don’t care and the animals are suffering. You should consider shutting it down!

Make sure to ask for the dish of the day as it is prepared to perfection. I had the slow cooked lamb shank from the menu and hubby had the fillet and prawn (one of the dish of the day served). It was a spur of the moment decision that we decided on this restaurant... We have dined there before but it was years ago before our children. Got there, very quiet and relaxing atmosphere on a Friday evening 19:00. Our waiter spoke fluent Afrikaans and knew the menu's like the back of his palm. He told us about the specials and I was hooked on the Lambshank! Wife decided on the Fillet and Prawns and it WAS DELICIOUS!!! I Highly recommend them for a Relaxing time ou with your Partner like a Dinner Date!!! Will see us definitely again!!!

We had our wedding anniversary lunch here. The food was great, good value for money, and the setting is lovely. We had the pork belly and duck samoosa starters, and ribeye and pork belly mains. The portions are large, took a takeaway and didn't have space for dessert. Had a bit of a hickup with the online booking, completed and submitted but it didn't register so had to phone to book (so our typed special requests didn't make it through). Great menu, slightly tricky to navigate for pregnancy safe options (ie. soft cheeses, rare meats, alcohol based sauces).

Fantastic venue, well worth strolling through once you've eaten. I had breakfast, the portions are inadequate and prices out of proportion to the quantity. Felt like I had to order a second meal to fill up. I think the lunch and dinner menus may well be worth investigating.

We have travelled far and wide and experienced plenty of hotel breakfasts and right here is where you will find one of the best breakfasts. A wide variety to choose from and not just what you would find at a normal breakfast table but much more - a wide spread. Live piano musician. Amazing decor - bold and beautiful ornaments and plants. Outdoor seating is breathtaking surrounded by water features. Highly recommended - proudly South African.

Everything was buffet style There wasn’t any bao buns. The rare beef was on a stale sweet macaron that was too hard to bite into. The sandwiches were dry, unappealing and there weren’t any crepes. There weren’t any tempura, cheesecakes or chocolate cakes. The Victorian sponge had fruit flies all over the strawberries. There were red velvet cupcakes AND a red velvet cake, I assume they were of the same batter to compensate for the other missing items. There weren’t any labels on the food if we had food allergies or restrictions. Nobody explained to us the process upon arrival. The waiter said when we get up to go get our second course scones, then only will she bring us teas. When I asked for water and then later on milk, both times the waiter screams over to the other waiter in another language to bring it over. Not asking still or sparkling water or full or low fat milk The waiter asked if we done and can she bring the bill at 16:30, we hadn’t had our 3rd course yet.. Would not recommend, highly disappointed

I’m really lost for words 🙏🏾all I can say is thank you. It was my husband’s birthday and Tshepiso the waitress who served us that day was the best and her team. They had a live music and they sang for my husband. This is the place to be. The buffet was excellent

The high tea at crystal court is beautiful and such a treat. The staff are attentive and pleasant. I mentioned to one of the ladies that we came to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and they came singing with a slice of cake and a candle without me asking. This was such a personal and touching gesture. If you're in the area do treat yourself to a little piece of heaven

The tea selection at high tea was very disappointing. I expected more from the palace. Cakes and pastries on the other hand were divine with plenty of options to choose from

After having breakfast at the Crystal Court restaurant, located in The Palace of The Lost City hotel, I have no other way of describing my experience than "opulent". The breakfast is served buffet style, with some items prepared on request, and almost everything thing you could think of was available. The selection is massive and all items are fresh and tasty. There are seating options inside and outside, but we opted to sit outside as you have a lovely view of the beautiful garden and waterfall areas. The staff are also very friendly. As we stayed at The Palace our breakfast was included, but even if you aren't staying there it is worth a try, you won't be disappointed. Just careful for the birds - if you leave your plate unattended they'll be sure to grab something while you're not looking.

Maltos Restaurant offers a satisfactory dining experience that may not meet the standards of a luxury hotel. However, the food is decent and enjoyable. The ambiance is appealing, with seating right next to the pool, creating a pleasant atmosphere of people swimming and having fun. The service is friendly but could benefit from improved training according to some reviewers. It is recommended for casual lunches or family dinners rather than formal or extravagant occasions.
The pool area at the Cascades hotel is simply magnificent and having Maltos there adds to the relaxation. The food was decent but pulled chicken isn’t the best for a gyro, service could be better.
Keith Reddy — Google review
Good for a lunch. Not worthy of being in a 5 star hotel. With that said, the food is decent. I personally like and enjoy the decor and setting; you're literally on the edge of the pool; you'll be watching people swim and play. I think it adds to a great vibe! Service is friendly and pleasant, but, I have to agree with some of the other reviewers and say that perhaps the staff could be better trained. Go for lunch, or a family dinner. But if you're looking for fine and fancy, give this place a skip.

Great family restaurant! Food was delicious, especially the pizza's! The pools and outside views are really appeasing to the eye and it gives you a real holiday feeling! Staff were friendly and Management visible and doing their job.

The atmosphere is quite nice considering the poolside and general interior aesthetic. The service was good, however, we had to ask to be seated, so no outgoing professionalism and accomodation. Furthermore, the food is good but not great considering the price being paid, especially for the seafood options.

We’ve ordered 5 pizzas and they all came terribly cold! When we advised waitress she called the manager. He said it is not fair to eat cold meat and out of 5 pizzas he would take off only 2! The manager even made a commemt it is not fair to eat cold meal yet we paid for it. Never and ever again! I will advise Palace Hotel not to direct any of their guests and no one should come here

Cascades reception made a reservation for my husband which was not written down. After keeping me and my 3 kids waiting then they point us to a table. No apology whatsoever for the confusion. Then we sit for 20+ minutes without anyone acknowledging or taking our oder. At the time my husband was not there. Only when he arrived suddenly someone rocks up. Only when he requests to see the person who took down the order, that's when we get taken seriously. The manager heard the commotion but even then he does not come to take charge of the situation. Instead the 2 managers on duty continue checking up on all the other tables around. It's the lack of care for customer that ticks me off. Poor communication and no care for the inconvenience and how I felt during the whole time with my kids. They made me feel like I was lucky that they found my booking. Unfortunately South Africa still has a long way to go when it comes to customer services and there should not be a difference in race and the level of priority given.

I feel bad that a good majority of the reviewers had such a bad experience at this restaurant because I definitely did not have that same impression. I did come on the off season which would mean that it all would come down to how everything tasted, but I neither had bad food. We sat right next to the window overlooking the pool and the forest and it was very relaxing (the hotel lights up the forest at night and it's a good walk called the Forest of Lights). We started with cocktails - which by then of course we knew which drinks that most of the bartenders were good at and which weren't - and then ordered the West Coast Mussels Pot and the Spanakopita. The mussels were well cooked - the cream sauce had such a good flavor - and the Spanakopita had just the right amount of filling and pastry. We then had a Greek Salad and a Margarita Pizza and they were delicious. The Greek Salad was so delicious that it might've been one of the best that I've ever had. The pizza was really good too, but the salad just ended up being the star. The service was indeed slow but I was on vacation time so I'm not sure I cared too much - but if you're trying to go and do things I can see how that can be irritating. I all in all really enjoyed this restaurant, it was one of my favorites at the resort.

Great atmosphere and beautiful views but the service was poor and the food wasn't really good. My friends and I waited for over 30 minutes to get someone to attend to us, we literally had to ask one of the staff members to please call someone for us. He came and brought the menu and disappeared again. Got served almost 2 hours later and the pizza crust was burnt and my friend's salad wasn't "salading". Another thing is music. They use stotify, with ads.

It would seem that, unfortunately, this spot has become a bit of a cursed spot in the Sun City complex. No matter what they change the name to, this restaurant seems that it will never live up to its former glory (Santorini.) Been sitting poolside for the last hour and no one has approached us with so much as a greeting, let alone a menu. It really is a pity for such an amazing spot. Hope that the owners make an actual effort to turn this place around at some point as it really is a shame to see it like this. 3 stars purely for the environment it’s located in. Generic response to complaint to follow…

Restaurant
French Toast Koffie Kafee is a beautiful tourist attraction in Johannesburg with an extensive menu of options for breakfast, lunch, and brunch. The restaurant allows for lovely photo opportunities with the Eiffesl Tower and all the locks in sight. The plain French toast was our favorite dish, but the kids also enjoyed seeing something different. This is definitely a place we would recommend to others!
A stunning venue to walk around, enjoy the beautiful scenery and decor, enjoy the music, watch the ducks, peacocks and peahens, and have something divine to eat and drink. You can purchase a lock there or you can take your own. There is an engraving machine which you can use to engrave your lock. The atmosphere is very romantic and it feels like you are hours out of city life. The magnum milkshake is worth the visit on its own. It's not as sweet as you would think - it is perfectly balanced in terms of sweetness. The rest of the menu was an emotional struggle for me because everything looked so good. Judging on what we have had, I think they may be as good as it sounds. The only con that I had was the vegetable crisps (which is a personal preference) - I didn't feel like it complimented the dish at all, other than aesthetics. The waiters were so friendly and helpful. A mistake was made with our order but it was rectified in such a wonderful manner. Definitely a place to go if you are feeling for something different or celebrating something.

Very ideal for a weekend brunch! The restaurant serves very delicious food and in sizable portions. So you better go there with a hungry stomach. Also, you better love French toast! In addition to the restaurant there is a bakery that sells delicious treats including macaroons. Two things I didn't like about the restaurant: 1. The place is very busy and the staff can be scarce and not attentive. Our waiter got some of our order wrong because he was not writing any of it down. 2. Most of the restaurant is outside and covered by corrugated iron roof. So when it is hot, they have some sort of mist sprinkler system spraying water from the roof to cool down the patrons. It can be irritating when the water is all over you and your food and drinks. When you finish enjoying the meal you can of course do the padlock ritual and snap beautiful photos under the Eiffel Tower 🗼

A little French cafe at haarties. Friendly waiters, generous portions and an family friendly open setting. Peacocks roam around the restaurant as well as a sweet accordion player. A lot of French toast dishes on the menu; to be expected; but they all looked delicious. I went for the absolutely massive Eiffel tower burger. The lock bridge and Eiffel tower were fun attractions. You can purchase locks with your names engraved on to add to the bridges collection and profess your undying love to your partner.

So this place has Three different names! One on the menu, one on the sign board and one on the waiters shirts. How are we supposed to know the correct name. We waited so long for someone to come take out drinks order and had to end up calling a waiter. Then in between drinks and food, the waits were very long. Waiters mostly in training, messed up orders multiple times, clean and put their hands by your food/drinks whilst you're busy, to clean. Food was nothing great. Dry French baguette not really tasting like it had been dipped in egg. Eggs were not how I asked, hollandaise sauce didn't taste like anything. Nothing splendid. Just a hype I think. Food presentation was good though.

Enjoyed a my afternoon with a friend and kids at The French Toast spot. It is really beautiful, peaceful and a great atmosphere us created by the lovely service and warm welcome. It was not full as it was during the week. We opted to sit in and have lunch which meant we could walk around for free. It is R20 entrance if you only want to walk in and take pictures or you could buy lovely locks that are engraved for R180 or R140. It is definitely worth going however there isn't much for young kids/toddlers to do. The menu has a variety of great meals too.

Nice little cafe with an outside area designed in a French style, based on a local film partly set in Paris. Serves breakfast and various types of French toast. The coffee is great. The Eiffel Tower and bridge are very small but cute nevertheless, especially with the LOVE locks on the bridge. You can have your own live lock engraved with you and your partner's name and secure it to the bridge or bicycle, if you can find a space 😉

We really enjoyed this experience. The whole restaurant is so pretty and allows for really beautiful photo opportunities with the Eiffesl Tower and all the locks. Menu was extensive but I think the plain French toast was the best option. I would definitely recommend. Think it might get crazy busy during the weekend but was lovely and quiet during the week Kids loved seeing something different

French Toast Koffie Kafee in Hartbeespoort is a charming cafe that serves up delicious food and excellent coffee. The menu is varied and includes a range of breakfast and lunch options, with something for everyone. The French toast, in particular, is a must-try, and the coffee is some of the best in the area. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff who make you feel at home. The outdoor seating area is also lovely, with views of the beautiful Harties Eifel tower. Whether you're looking for a quick coffee or a leisurely meal, French Toast Koffie Kafee is a great choice.

If you’re looking to get a feel of mini Europe then this is the place for you. The meals are delicious, filling and affordable. I love love the mini ‘Eiffel Tower’ with a love lock bridge where you can attach an engraved padlock to the railings (at a small fee) with your SO, family and/or children and either throw the keys away or keep them. A nice short left from JHB with affordable and fun activities to do in the vicinity as well (we went quad biking after this - even though we were super stuffed and needed a nap lol). Perfect spot for brunch! The place was quite busy but the service was great.

Nice little café. The food is nice. Breakfast menu is not served after 12pm which annoyed me because the lunch items are the same ingredients, just used differently, but it wasn’t a train smash. Sometimes waiters and waitresses have to wait on many tables simultaneously and it can get quite busy. As a result, they sometimes fail to get orders correct or follow instruction. I was with a group of friends who are vegetarian and we had asked for the biltong and ham items to be placed in separate containers for takeaway (since the price would be the same regardless), instead of having it touch the rest of the food. They still sent the platter out and suggested we just remove the meat items at the table. That’s not how it works. Needless to say, it was still a nice getaway after a morning hike and we might consider visiting again, despite that experience. I had the basil and olive toasty, which was really delicious.

Had very high expectations for this restaurant but it failed to deliver in terms of the food. Drinks were good(coffee, milkshake and chai latte) and that was about it. We ordered the pastries to try out, however they were not fresh and flaky, tasted like they microwaved it before serving. For mains we had the farm breakfast, French toast cheese and egg and the beef fillet and onion marmalade. For a restaurant that has French toast as their signature base on each dish, you'd expect it to be perfect however all 3 dishes had very dry stale bread in the centre instead of having a fluffy souffle like texture that you'd expect from French toast. Think the chef did not soak the bread long enough in the egg mixture to absorb properly which resulted in this unpleasant horrible french toast. The other elements of the meals were good and presentation wad beautiful however the base which is the French toast spoiled it for us. Our waiter Ewald was attentive and looked after us which was the highlight of the meal. Overall was not a great experience and probably will not return. Will not recommend.

Situated within the Little Paris enclosure, French Toast offers Parisian themed foods. Their signature dish being the french toast which they incorporate into almost everything on the menu incl burgers. Having had more than one type of french toast dish I can say that it’s really overrated and underwhelming especially as it’s their signature dish. The portions are quite large though which is commendable. The pastries on the other hand were fantastic - the warm Belgian chocolate croissant dipped into the vanilla ice cream was an absolute delight. The scones are also worth a mention. It gets quite busy so you may have to wait for a table if on a weekend or public holiday. Other than that it’s a great visit for the family.
Keith Reddy — Google review
I'm only giving it a 3 because of our waiter, Charles who stepped in and helped us when no one cared to give us attention. We got there and tried finding a table for ourselves cause none of the waiters were interested enough. Finally got a dirty one that needed to be cleared, we called a waiter who came to clear it but ghosted us when it was time to wipe it and actually give us menus. Anyway, thankfully Charles stepped in from the other side and was happy to tend to us. The food was a bit basic, I had French toast with egg and bacon, I've had better. The last time I was here was years ago, it's disappointing that they aren't trying with their food.

Sun City Hotel is a laid-back hotel with unfussy quarters, three bars, an outdoor pool, and a casino. The hotel offers free breakfast and is located near the Pilanesberg Game Drive wildlife reserve, which provides various adventure activities such as hiking trails, private game drives, and wildlife encounters. The Cabanas at Sun City Resort is a family-friendly 3-star hotel offering standard family rooms that sleep four people and some with lake views.
What a lovely first time stay at The Aviary at Sun City. Very nice roomy 2 bedroom apartment with cleaning services. The pools and activty locations are very well looked after. A highlight is definitely the bus / shuttles that drive you from where you stay to where you want to be in and around Sun City.

I‘m just Rating the Hotel, not sun city. Sun city itself is absolutely amazing and 5 stars! But the hotel REALLY needs a renovation and the breakfast is not good enough for the price. Also the service could be better. Especially at the reception, people were helpful but not really friendly.

Great place to visit with friends. Rooms have gone down in quality and very out dated for the price you pay but the venue is still well kept. Some great views from the different rooms. The main focus is still the casino so if you dont gamble limited things your able too do. Go with good friends in warm weather and enjoy the game drives and other activities available. Not as much for the kids to do if the water park side is closed.

This hotel should be rated 3-star and not 4-star. The rooms needed more amenities to be comfortable (e.g., no tissues, needed a sitting/arm chair). The lifts need serious refurbishment; they regularly don't respond to people pressing the buttons. Were this rated as a 3-star, I would say it's a good deal and I'd have been happy. It's just not what it presents itself to be.

We stayed in the suncity hotel. A bit out dated for me. The rooms and corridors have those old carpets that just have a smell of their own. We were in a room with our 2 year old who slept on a sleeper couch. I will definitely choose differently next time. But I appreciated how cool the rooms were with or without aircon. Their restaurant on 3rd floor was awesome along it's stuff. Loved the creche we could take our son while we went out at night, they charge per hour.

Unpleasant stay in Sun City Hotel, from the minute we checked in…we got greeted with “We have problems with the rooms as we have no rooms available”. I cannot understand how this can be with guests that book and pay way in advance to be told such. It is as if we are being done a favour by getting a room in the first place and must welcome unacceptable rooms. I was traveling with kids and i got given a smoking room that was clearly not cleaned as there was still dirt on the floors & it smelt awful. Regardless of my booking requests for a non smoking room which also reflected that I was travelling with kids, I was told on arrival that hotel is not kid friendly by the receptionist. If that is the case, then why allow bookings with kids in the hotel and accept payment only to tell me without giving me options to move hotels within the resort on arrival. Why do guests need to send in endless complaints before you can give them an acceptable room and we told that “we are being upgraded” as an apology. The room cleanliness during stay was purely towel changes and bed made up…nothing else 😏 dirty glasses in room and bathroom did not get refreshed. Maybe the grading of this hotel needs to be relooked at so that we know what that we will get poor service. The resort is amazing but stay at Sun City Hotel was really unpleasant. You guys can do better and teach your staff to treat all guests equally without prejudice.

Great experience and wonderful service. We would definitely come back to these rooms with scenic views of the golf course, mountains and lake. Covid protocols are well maintained with the room being cleaned and sealed before you enter. Only had a problem with our card that could not open our door. I don't know if this is normal but we got a complimentary wine which was wondeful to have on our Anniversary day. We would really recommend this hotel.

I would not stay at the SOHO anymore! Rather book into the cascades. 1. The elevators don't work, not just one, a majority of them.. 2. The airguns never work.. 3. The rooms are outdated and smell. 4. No turn down at night.. The place has definitely gone down, and it's not covid. It looks like it is a management problem. I called to complain about the above points, reception never answered. Rather book somewhere else.

Great location, rooms need revamp was very disappointed had to change rooms twice on first day because of dirty brown water coming out of the taps, from 407 to 402 but it was even worse had to change to 335 next day, I was with kids and it meant had to pack up everytime, deal breaker was the Christmas dinner, paid on the 24th under our room, on Christmas we waited 30 minutes to get a table, the champagne that was being served was said to have run out and upon being allocated a table we were told, we didn't pay our name was under people that didn't book n pay in advance, to step aside while they served other people and prove that we'd paid, luckily we had the card machine receipt and still had to wait while they verified with reception and then had to wait again for them to check our table, that was another good 30minutes we told them sorry we were not having that dinner and want our refund, the manager said it was impossible to refund by this time we were so curious, they have zero courtesy, very rude and service is pathetic surpassed by spur Palamino, clearly the starting needs to be revised its more a 3 star and restaurant staff are a mockery to the hospitality industry please look into refresher courses for customer care and complaints, ethics and general etiquette, will not recommend and never advise anyone to book there, vacation homes would be a much better option

Can I suggest updating the website with a comprehensive selection of photographs showcasing the various rooms available at all the resorts and hotels in Sun City. It would be particularly helpful to include detailed images of the bathrooms, highlighting features such as showers, baths, and other amenities. Enhancing the photo gallery on the website with more extensive and high-quality room images, including close-ups of bathroom facilities, will provide prospective guests with a clearer understanding of the accommodation options and help them make informed decisions when booking.
