Valley of the Temples

Mentioned on
Monument
Sights & Landmarks
Sicily's Valley of the Temples is a vast archaeological site featuring ancient temples and the ruined city of Akragas. The area encompasses 13 sq-km split into eastern and western zones, with ticket offices located at the southwestern and northeastern corners. The highlight is the well-preserved Temple of Concordia, along with several other ridge-top temples that served as beacons for sailors.
Ancient history becomes visible and almost touchable at the Valei del templi. Imagine the Greek, Romans and many other tribes and cultures using these sites. We visited mid summer 2021, at 40’c. This is not recommended. There is a antigen covid-19 test location for people without vaccination proof (QR code check at entrance, or negative test on-site). Access is around 13€ for adult and small children are for free. A must see, we have visited Greek and Roman historic sites everywhere, this temple site is special because of the preserved temple. There is also a museum site, which due to the heat we did not visit. Ps; the actual entrance for the site is further up the road. Check Google maps for the entrance and follow the signs. Parking is available for ~3€.

The place itself is quite amazing, reflection of Greek architecture - not quite similar to acropolis but reminds you of it. Tickets are €10 pp parking depends on how much time you spend there, we paid €1.50 for being there close to an hour. Incredible views, could easily spend a great deal of time at this place. However, getting here was a nightmare. Every road that you think you can take here - the highways - were CLOSED OFF!! We got turned around and there are no cut off roads for you to make a U turn because they are closed off too - we went here April 12, 2022. The only road that was open cut through a small town and it also had a bunch of speed traps. The re-route delayed us by close to 2 hours🥴🥴🥴 The speed limit went from 80 to 50 to 40 within a matter of seconds. Be careful while driving and if possible check for road closures and alternate routes beforehand. There is a restaurant, but we just used the facilities and got some fresh squeezed blood orange juices to go. The website says it closes at 1.30pm but by the time we left it was a little after 2pm and people were still buying tickets.

Came here with a 4 year old and 2 year old and low expectations. This place was a blast! We parked in the East lot, took a cab to the top, and walked back down to our car. Shame you have to return the audio tour back to the same gate, I would have loved to hear about the rich history here, but the signage was sufficient. 10/10 one of the best things to do in Sicily.

Wander and feel this ancient site 📜 …visiting Sicily it’s a must! If the season is hot, I’d recommend to start your visit around 1700 or later and benefit from the site being open in the evening. The sunset is beautiful here.
Jan Krogh — Google review
Amazing place and amazing route by surely the best preserved temples of the world from the Greek times. It is definitely worth a visit, although reaching the valley by car can be a bit tiring if you drive from Palermo or from the Eastern part of Sicily. Tips: if the day is sunny and hot better go with an umbrella and litres of water because there’s no shadow at all there.
Miguel S?nchez Jim?nez — Google review
Absolutely beautiful valley charged with so much history! Recommend to join a guided group (you can ask on the spot when buying your ticket) or take an audio guide, to fully hear the story of each temple. Some of them are well preserved, others less, but their story and evolution in time are impressive. Best to visit in the first hours of the day or before sunset (if the latter better to enter from the west entrance and walk to the east, as this shines a superb view on the temples). But me aware that from west to east it’s sloping upwards. (However a mild ish slope). Paid large parking available. There is a bit of a walk - about 2-2,5km one direction, a little bus can be taken for the return.

Fantastic setting. Wonderful tourist attraction, easy walking. Wheelchair friendly. Great cafe. Good parking. In September was busy but no wait for tickets. The history is amazing. Best time to visit is sunset. The colours are amazing on each structure.

An absolutely breathtaking experience. The well preserved Greek Temples surrounded by nature are easily to visit - from the outside - and show how grandiose they were when people lived and worshipped there. There are easy walkways that immerse you in the history of the place as you move from each temple. It is possible to also see the ruins of the city. The views from the Valley are breathtaking in an of itself. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely breathtaking!!! Pictures do no justice it's a must see in Agrigento. Highly recommended going with a guide..there is so much history and knowledge that could be missed without one. We had Teresa! She was fabulous! Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Made the experience that much more enjoyable. Wonderful experience

Really nice place full of history. Very well preserved Temples and Statues. The entrance price is very affordable. I think the best time to visit is during evening. I'm sure sunsets are amazing here. Even without the amazing history, the view of the surrounding hills from the top is breathtaking.

An incredible place to visit. The 2.2km walk across the valley isn't that long, but caution if you're going in the summer. It's like an oven!! We did an audio guide, but it wasn't that great. I would have been fine just walking around and seeing the temples. There's two major ones, one on either ends of the walk, with the bigger one near the end.
Mike Antoniadis — Google review
The place was amazing. It’s very beautiful view. Employees are friendly and nice, but they don’t speak other language than Italian. It’s very hard to be a tourist and deal with the language. They have a crazy rule about tripods so you’re not allowed to take pictures with a tripod so all the solo travelers like me we cannot have good pictures because we are solo and this is exactly the reason why solo travelers use tripods so I don’t get this .. they Blamed on UNESCO saying that is their rules but I was in Greece and they don’t care if you have a tripod so I don’t know what’s going on in this place but a guard come to me and start shouting to me because I was using my tripod and I am a solo traveler. I need a tripod. I don’t understand what’s going on with the humans, but this is crazy. Also, the place has no proper signals And I think that is missing some cleaning person on the toilets because the toilets were really dirty. Also these is cause turist are dirty .. is amazing how dirty they can be 🥹I think the government or whoever is taking the administration of this place is doing a bad job. Maybe it’s cause they don’t have a good people to hire but still we are talking about history and you need good people to share the history, so I am not happy with the With the whole experience.. better go to Greece 😇
Barbara Melissa Koch Ram?rez — Google review
This was definitely an amazing experience! Alot of History behind this Superb Architecture. You have to experience it to believe it. There's also a nice little Cafe within the compound and the sandwiches were delicious. According to my friends who actually had one said the Anchovy sandwich was unbelievable.

We thought we going to need 3 hrs to visit, ended up being 6. So much to see! I LOVE archeology and gardens so it was definitely a bucket list place for me. We visted end of October, I think it would be best to avoid in full Summer. Definitely bring hat, water and wear great walking shoes.
Monica Widman — Google review
Preserved Greek Temple in Italy. We had a guided tour, and she shared lots of information. We were able to walk and view at our own pace. Plan on 3 hours. You start at the top and walk downhill. Breathe taking views of the ocean and the city. We were even able to see a WW2 bunker. To see the different temples was amazing.
Cori Harper — Google review
Great place for a walk. It can take up to 3 hours if walking with kids. They can jump on fallen temple rock which is fun 😊 bit must be careful. There is also cafe where you can by common Italian food and coffee.
Ugis Kreics — Google review
Amazing place, rich in history. One of the best places to visit in Sicily. The only problem was finding the entrance. There was a lack of directions/signs. Google maps didn’t take us to the correct place (we later found out that this was because the main ticket office had moved). So plan your route carefully to make sure you get the best out of your visit. Take some water too as there is only one cafe and is quite a walk from the entrance.
Anthony Pascal — Google review
An absolutely do-not-miss site in Sicily, and one you really should visit first thing in the morning. The significance of this site cannot be overstated. Incredible examples of Hellenistic temples in Italy, the structures tell the tale of Greece's once great power in the region, and it's eventual fading with increasing Roman dominance. The hot Sicilian days will feel even hotter on this site with little shade and often little wind to cool you. Get there early both to beat the crowds (buses, so many buses) and the heat! There is little information on site to interpret what you are seeing, so get some information from a reliable website, a good tour book (we used Rick Steves), or the audio guide (we did not use this ourselves). Park at the eastern gate and walk to the west, seeing the temples as you go, then decide if you want to pay for the one-way taxi back to your car. Then, DO NOT MISS the museum! On the northwest side of the site, it has so many artifacts and is so cheap to add on to your ticket to the valley. Parking is free at the museum and totally worth it. Don't try and park at the museum to see the valley, however, the distance is not practical and you don't want to wait for city buses...
David Foster — Google review
This is a very good place to spend a day. This place has two entrances. One entrance has plenty of place to park the car but it’s paid. I didn’t see much options to park there car in the CV other entrance. The ticketing office is there in both sides of the site. Be aware, there are not be many signage to the place like you see in England. If you have kids the make sure you have some id proof of their age because their tickets are always free.
Nebu Mathews — Google review
Amazing, beautiful, views. We took our first private tour with a lovely guide that met us at the entrance. Lots of great pics. Worth every penny. Also, stopped at the cafe and had a decent Arancini, coffee and scoop of gelato. Wonderful way to spend 3-4 hours.
Jerry Irick — Google review
Pricey entrance fee, but it provides a free audio guide app with some basic information about the site (though it was a bit tricky to get to the free audio guide). The place was definitely worth a visit, as you get to see a better-preserved pantheon here. It was tasteless to be charging an additional parking fee; it is not like people would park here to visit something else. There is a cafe/restroom after the 3rd site, which provides an excellent break spot, especially on a hot summer day.
Cindy W — Google review
A must see sight, steep in so much history… we only opted to see the temples which cost €24 for two adults and two children. Make sure to bring water and a hat, as hardly any shade available. There are a few water fountains available to refill your bottle, a few WCs one at the entrance and at the cafe but they are far apart. Couldn’t imagine visiting in the summer would be far too hot, we visited in early April. We took the train from Palermo, and decided to walk there, be warned there are lots of stairs and the paths are narrow, with limited shade. Somehow the map directed us to a sight post which took 26 minutes from the train station, thankful a local who was stood by the sight told us that the gate at the bottom was closed and are only for those leaving the ancient site and recommended we walk to the top to gain entry (see last photo, from the petrol station by the small roundabout follow the sign post with ‘Valley Dei Templi’, follow the road up until you can turn right. Will take you approximately 25 minutes, alternatively you could wait for the number 1 bus, but they are infrequent). The sights from above was amazing, you could see all the ancient temples from a far.

Absolutely stunning. Plenty to learn and lots to see. Fantastic walk as well. Suggest going before sunset so you can see both day and night lighting, with a wonderful sunset view as well. The guidebook you get has SOME information, but not tons. If you’re interested in knowing more, would suggest either using Gemini.google.com to understand each, or getting the audio guide (we heard it was quite good but didn’t get it). FYI they will not let you have the audio guide if you arrive within 3 hours of closing. Only toilets are at the extreme ends of the valley, so plan accordingly 😁. Oh, and don’t forget to find the little goats along the city side of the wall!
Nathan Byrd — Google review
Amazing place. A must see in Sicily! Entry Fee is 13€ per adult, which give you full entrance to the temples, walking distance is about 2 or 3 km. We went on a weekday in December, very few people and perfect time to take amazing pictures without the crowds of people. While weather was still good to walk with a light jacket. There is a parking lot just to the right of the main entrance (price for about 2 hrs stay was a couple of euros). Great place.

The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento is a mesmerizing archaeological site that transports visitors to ancient times. The well-preserved Greek temples, such as the iconic Temple of Concordia, stand as majestic testaments to ancient architecture. The expansive grounds offer a captivating journey through history, surrounded by lush landscapes. Exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a profound experience, providing a deep connection to Sicily's rich cultural heritage. Highly recommend immersing yourself in the Valley of the Temples for a glimpse into the magnificence of ancient Greek civilization.

Spend a couple of hours here, it’s really beautiful. You have to walk “far” to see everything, but if you set aside a few hours you can leisurely explore the area and see the amazingly preserved temples.
Basia Richter — Google review
Outstanding experience. Went in January and almost had the place to myself. Lovely mild day, perfect for walking around the ruins. Walked from the train station which is about 2km away and all downhill. Very little in the way of signposting for pedestrians though and no shops at the station - just one cafe/bar at the bottom of the hill as you get closer to the site. Couldn't find the entrance so I just climbed over a fence and got in for free - they really need to improve the information and signposting for pedestrians as they are clearly set up for cars and coaches only. Standard for Italy where the pedestrian is a third class citizen. Despite that, I loved the place and the quality of the ruins is exceptional - infinitely better than the sites you get in Greece and mainland Italy which are usually neglected, tatty and overcrowded. You need good walking shoes and be prepared to walk up a few hills and over boulders at times. The views out to the Mediterranean are awesome.

Stromboli, the only continuously active volcano in Europe, is located on one of the Aeolian Islands and boasts black lava beaches. A half-day hike to its summit crater at night is an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts. The ascent starts with a leisurely walk through lush vegetation and gradually transforms into steeper slopes surrounded by stark black sand. At sunset, visitors can capture stunning views towards mainland Italy and molten lava in the volcano's craters.
Difficult hiking but with an amazing view all the way… Remember to bring wind jacket, gloves and hat, super strong wind, specially at nightfall You can see seismic activity often, about every 10 or 15 minutes

June 2023. Took a trip to Stromboli and loved it. If you’re nearby then take an organised trip. You can spend some time in one of the villages and get to see the volcano. Even got to see some small eruptions. What’s not to love.

Stromboli, one of earth’s thriving active volcano and one of the Aeolian islands in Italy, is an absolute gem that left me in awe. The towering volcano, also known as the "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean," provides a breathtaking backdrop that is both impressive and humbling. As the sun sets, the volcano comes to life with spectacular eruptions, casting an enchanting glow over the island. The picturesque villages of San Vincenzo and San Bartolo offer a glimpse into the island's rich history and vibrant culture. For adventure enthusiasts, a hike to the summit of the volcano is an unforgettable experience, providing panoramic views that are simply breathtaking. Stromboli is a hidden paradise that promises a perfect blend of natural wonders, tranquility, and authentic Italian charm. It's a must-visit destination for those seeking an unforgettable island getaway.

It's hard to believe that people will live on one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, one that has been active for much of the last 2,000 years, and erupting almost continuously since 1932. Well a few hundred people still do! We sailed around Stromboli but while there were no 'strombolian' eruptions and no steam venting it was still a spectacular sight to see!
Adam G — Google review
We enjoyed a boat trip from Salina island to Stromboli to watch the lave eruptions after sunset. Un fortunately cloud cover over just the top of Stromboli meant we couldn't see anything. Boat trip was nice and we had a couple of swims and a short stop at Panarea. There is nothing much at Stromboli port and poor choices for dinner, however the scenery on the trip is spectacular.
Terry Firkin — Google review
Simply stunning! It's an active volcano, which constantly emits bursts of molten lava, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle. The island's rugged beauty and unique geology make it a haven for adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts.Stromboli offers a truly unforgettable experience. We went with Tarnav minicrociera.

I have never been however this morning, after the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024, this island volcano is splashed on many US newspapers as if this is some type of sign. Looks like a great lil place, if you can tolerate and live with the constant rumblings of this ancient volcano. While this current venting of magma may be a sign to some, it, to me, is just another day following the magnetic implications of both a celestial event AND the CERN machine testing it's abilities to capture nano-particles for scientific purposes, right! Best of luck. I was only looking for one man companion, not a following of secret watchers.

It was a great trip to Stromboli to see one of the few active volcanoes in the World. I shuttled from Tropea with my friend Doriyana for an enjoyable boat ride. The journey took 90 minutes, the boat was comfortable and the sea very calm. Upon arrival in San Vincenzo we had 3 hours to walk around the small town and enjoy some excellent food. We found the locals to be very friendly but you need to be careful of their crazy road use on scooters and small trucks. Above us the volcano was rumbling away with smoke bellowing from the top, which the locals just completely ignored. At 1900 we departed the island and went out to the opposite side of the volcano and witnessed the most amazing natural light show ever. The volcano was spewing hot lava in to the night sky and it's a spectacle I will never forget.

Temple of Segesta

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
The Temple of Segesta is an ancient Greek temple located in western Sicily and dating back to the 5th century BC. It is situated on a rural hillside and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. This well-preserved Doric temple, which dates from around 430 BC, is a must-see attraction for visitors to the area.
A great location overlooking the bay with views from cliffs, gorges, marble quarrys and olive farms. It is almost appropriate with the last decades represented with a viaduct from the motorway dividing up the scenery. If you can you should walk up to the theater at the top. The hike among flowers and with beautiful scenery is marvelous.
Owe Richard — Google review
This is certainly one of the most well kept preserve Greek temple in Europe. You need to park in the free public parking and walk about 250 meters to the ticket boot. You can bring your car closer and let anyone get off and return park if needed. The tickets are 8 € each, plus 2 € for the bus ride. The bus would bring you to the open theater. It’s at 1 km away, you can walk but at noon under 40C, I suggest you take the bus. For it you will need a mask 😷. It runs every 30 minutes. To reach the temple you need to climb some stairs, about 250 meters away. The theater is nice, but the view around is really what is worth your time.
Jean-Philippe Cyr — Google review
This is one of the most pristine ancient Greek sites in Sicily and well worth the visit, if you're in the western half of the island (near Trapani, Erice, Marsala, Palermo for example). The temple itself is magnificent, and the rest of the ancient city is also available to visit with interpretive resources available in multiple languages. The site was used and re-used from the ancient Greek period through the Norman period, and so you can review over 1500 years of history here. As a bonus, it's the temple featured in the last (2023) Indiana Jones film, although it's actually 3.5 hours from the cave in Siracusa that they connect with it in the movie. 😉 If you're going to see ancient Greek ruins in Agrigento, Siracusa, and other places, don't miss this one.
Steve Florman — Google review
This is a great site, but be sure to pay the €2.50 for the bus up the mountain to the amphitheatre! Walking down is easy and they’re are tonnes of wildflowers in April to enjoy along the way!
Karl Gercens — Google review
I would say the temple itself is a five star...well worth the hike up a 300 yard hill. We loved it..it will make a good Xmas card pic . Bring a tripod to get a good picture. We were sold on the amphitheater by the ticket sales guy... He said it was the best part of park..if you have been to an amphitheater before this one is small and probably not worth the bus ride up the hill, whatever you do don't walk it..it will take forever and is a steep climb..only for those with lots of time and are in extra great shape.. pay the extra for the bus up if you must go.
Dave Mariani — Google review
Do not know what to expect before we decided to go but it worth the travel, impressive structure with all facilities on site, gelato, coffee, alcohol and clean toilets. Toilets free of charge and well looked after. 250m to walk to the temple. But the theatre is the best thing to see after temple. Do not skip
Antanina Bialiauska — Google review
Nice place. Worth the price. I‘d plan it for colder days than 35+ degrees though, as heat and sun can be hard. There is a bus though which commutes between the different archeological sites which can be used for a small extra charge.
Noah P — Google review
This and the nearby theatre occupy a lovely position with views of the surrounding mountains down to the coast. Surrounded by two deep gorges the lsite is exceptionally well defended. To get the most from your visit I would recommend a good guide. There are toilets on site but at time of visit no other facilities whatsoever
Chris Wilson — Google review
Great place, the walk is a about 250 metres from the entrance to the temple and 1300 metres to the top, but there us a shuttle every 20-25 minutes. The ticket is 14.50 euros with the bus to the top. The coolest thing is that you can go in the temple and touch the stones .Amazing!
Grety Georgieva — Google review
The temple and theatre are so beautiful. Although they are stretched on distant areas from one another, it is worth going on foot to watch the views from all corners. There is also a shuttle bus for the less adventurous.
Charles Cassar — Google review
Worth the visit, best early in the morning or late afternoon. From the entrance to the amfitheater is a long walk up a steep path. For an additional fee you can take a bus. The temple itself has to be reached on foot, it is a climb but not a long one.
Jeroen Stein — Google review
The temple is lovely and nice to see but the staff is very unprofessional and unfriendly. We accidentally bought wrong tickets - because we misunderstood what the tickets were for and they didn’t let us change the tickets. They said it is impossible when we all know a withdraw is alway possible to make.
Paola Mu?i? — Google review
So beautiful!!! Be good to plan/time when they have there events in evening. It’s a bit of a hike up so if you have elderly folk I would skip.
Michael Antico — Google review
Perfectly proportioned temple with simple and clear architecture located in a stunning landscape in the middle of nowhere. Tranquil and peaceful. There are ruins of an amphitheatre and an antique settlement on a hill nearby which are covered by the entrance fee to the temple and can be reached either on foot (25-30 minutes steep uphill walk) or by a shuttle bus for a few extra €. I recommend the bus. Shuttle bus in winter every 30 minutes. I don't know if the schedule is the same in high season. One needs a car to get there. It's just a few km away from the highway to Trapani. Car park is free of charge. (Must be one of the few parking spots in the whole of Sicily without extra costs 😉)
Gerd T. — Google review
An incredible site in Sicily. Definitely worth a visit. Consider bringing a picnic and definitely bring some water. I paid extra for the bus to the top and then walked back down which was a great way to experience the site.

This place is off the charts. I love Greek Temples and Theatres in general. This was an experience that I will not forget. I walked up the theatre hill. It was an effort. They have a shuttle bus. Its a remarkable place.
Michael Maurer — Google review
The temple itself is super beautiful and spectacular. I would recommend it to anybody. The rest of the sites (theater, Agora/Forum, etc.) seemed quite dilapidated and unkempt. A fire has raged through here in summer of 2023 and many things are not repaired yet. You still pay €12 for the basic entrance. I would recommend making the signs less verbose, the texts are way too convoluted and are not good at communicating the main facts. Also, would an electric bus make sense? It‘s only driving a very short distance up the hill and could probably recuperate most of the energy on the downhill return.

Karin gave us the most amazing information about the temple & theater. She is an amazing employee who is very proud of this very important archeological site. She represents the park so professionally & is one of the park’s best assets. Without Karin’s information & advice, we would not have enjoyed the park as much. We have been several times & never had learned as much as we did this time. Bravo Zulu to your wonderful employee for making our trip spectacular!

Visit it now to experience something from another age and another world. The wildfires swept through this area in late July and left the whole area burnt or scorched. The plants are blackened and brittle, the soil is dry and crusted, the air is heavy with the acrid smell of destruction. Yet despite this devastation (it appears even the restaurant did not survive) the temple continues to stand proudly on its plinth, as it has for millenia, a true survivor. The ticket office seemed untouched by the fire, and the staff are friendly and professional and spoke good English. There is a short flight of stairs to reach the temple, but these could be managed by most. It appears there is an access road that could be taken by those with mobility needs. The stairs give you an excellent approach to the temple, bringing you face to face with the main entrance, framed by the mountains beyond. Walk all the way around the temple if you can as the views are spectacular. You can walk within the.temple for even more immersion. The car park is gravelly and unshaded, but is safe and ample. There are a row of vending machines for snacks (although I expect they will reopen the restaurant before long as it did not appear to be badly damaged). I was only charged €5 as there was an event in the theatre. The scale of the temple is truly vast and it is well worth the visit.

The Museo Archeologico Eoliano L. Bernabo' Brea', located in Lipari, is an essential destination for enthusiasts of Mediterranean history. It showcases a remarkable collection of ancient artifacts, including those discovered locally from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages up to the Greco-Roman era. Visitors can explore the Sezione Preistorica and Sezione Classica exhibits, which contain treasures such as miniature Greek theatrical masks and shipwreck cargoes.
Very rich collection of amphoras, masks, grave stones etc. Reserve at least 1 hour of your time for visit. Very nice views in the backside of the museum.

Beautiful artefacts from all ages and many civilisations. Additional access to museum on vulcanology. There is more than you can see in one day. Not crowded, but not cooled everywhere.

Excellent museum! There are multiple buildings, dedicated to different domains of research of the islands. Make sure you have at least a couple of hours, for there is a lot to see here. Would rate as a 5, if not for a surprising siesta time for such a major museum and lack of English translations. Though I must note that the views from Acropolis, the cats and the care with which such a vast museum was created and is being maintained, make up for any possible faults.

What a pleasant surprise! Tons of ancient items witnessing the millennial history of the Eolian islands. Well organised around the different ages: prehistoric, greek, roman with a bonus vulcanic section. Do plan for at least two hours which will barely leave you time to peek at all the different rooms. Nice combination with the breathtaking view from the site.

Neapolis Archaeological Park

The Neapolis Archaeological Park is a sprawling natural reserve that boasts an array of ancient ruins from both Greek and Roman eras. The highlight of the park is undoubtedly the Teatro Greco, a marvelously preserved amphitheater dating back to the 5th century BC. With seating capacity for over 16,000 people, it was here that famed tragedian Aeschylus staged some of his final works in front of audiences including himself.
Amazing experience today in the park. Trying to imagine how Greek and Romans were living here, centuries ago, is quite hard but those ancient relics from the past help us understand a bit more. I’m so proud that the city kept the ruins as they were in the past without adding to much to it. A great 2h spent in the park. That was lovely

This has a lot of potential but is let down by some poor organisation and a lack of appreciation of what it is. The Main sites are worth seeing but so many routes and places are still blocked but the maps are not updated. As others have noted the Roman Amphitheater is being covered by boards and converted to a concert venue which really should not be allowed and would not almost anywhere else. It will impact long term on tourism which is short sighted to exploit it for a few Euros now. We found the staff friendly and helpful and it is worth a visit but could be so much better.

It's pretty visiting, but it's not worth paying so much just to entry and take a look around. The theater was completely renewed, you couldn't really see the old stairs. The amphitheatre was just ruins and the best thing were the caves. Its not easy navigating the ways since there are too many and the signs are rather confusing.

It's ok, and its reasonably priced. The best bit is the old saltpeter quarry you can walk into, sounds underwhelming but it's honestly interesting and looks awesome. Then theres the old Greek theatre, which is still used and unfortunately modern wooden seats have been fitted over the original stonework so you cant see it. However the Roman theatre down the hill a bit is much better to look at. Main issue was the long queue at the ticket office in the car park was not moving, so we bought tickets online which we then told were invalid unless we went to the ticket office anyway, so that was a waste of time, luckily there was another ticket office inside the entrance gate which had a much shorter queue, even so, it was not clear where to get a ticket and it was a slow frustrating process just trying to get into the site.

One of the worst spending of time and money I had. First, it has almost none benches and shadows. It's impossible to find a place to rest at least a bit, and visit in sunny day becomes a hell. Second, very few toilets with long ques. Third, routes organisation is horrible. You should walk in circles to visit different places, while the straight way will be closed and a special security will be standing to make sure that you go the long way. And finally, I think it is overpriced. You see to little for too much money. Especially during my visit, the Greek theatre was blocked by some festival, but they didn't even bother to make price cheaper. In short, I don't recommend to visit the place.
Yury Ramanousky — Google review
The site is truly breathtaking, featuring two of the most exquisite amphitheaters from Greek and Roman times. The addition installation of the modern sculptures tastefully done, enhancing the historical ambiance. However, the signage could be improved as it is not very clear. More directional signs for visitors would be highly beneficial.

Beautiful park, great for a morning/afternoon walk to soak up a little bit of culture while in Ortigia. I think April is the perfect time to visit: the entire park is green, and filled with flowers and the amazing smell of orange blossom. You can easily spend a few hours in the park, exploring the different sites. The Roman theatre and the Ear of Dyonisis were my favorites. Unfortunately the Greek theatre was being worked on (looked like preparations for a concert), which was a bit of a bummer.

Beautiful place, with plenty of things to see! It took us around 4 good hours to explore the whole area! Bring suitable shoes and water! Worth a visit for 15€. Bear in mind that you will need a map because the park is huge!

This extremely important archaeological site could be amazing, but unfortunately many areas are in rough shape, roped off, overgrown with weeds, and otherwise unable to be seen by the public. The 2,500 year old Greek Theater that serves as the MAIN draw for this park was very disappointing, as it was almost completely covered by modern seating structures that killed the entire beauty of this sacred ancient theater. It would have been better to stage current theatrical events at the less important Roman Theater, which was also overgrown with vegetation and to leave the Greek Theater alone and in a more pure state. Or they could at least reduce the admission price when the theater is covered. The caves were probably the most interesting aspects of this park. Don’t skip those!! Very fascinating. Overall it’s still worth visiting, but in its current state I can only give it 3 stars. I truly hope they improve this important Archaeological site, clean up the overgrown vegetation, improve and replace the damaged and faded signs, and bring it to its fullest potential!

Masterful and impressive works but rather pitiful presentation. The paths were not marked consistently, so that one gets lost almost by default. For the Roman amphitheatre there are two entrances, but you are not allowed to visit everything when using the one at the café. The Greek theatre is covered almost completely by modern technical equipment and in general there are little to no information panels. When I visited a third of the park was not accessible at all, but I was not notified of it until I paid entrance and the path was blocked.

Really cool to visit, wish there were more explanations in terms of text, it feels like they are trying to get you to get a tour guide. The paths are limited and you can see the older paths were amazing. Overall if you love Greek and Roman history there is a lot to explore.

Great site to get the old Greek and Roman vibe. Theatre is incredible, but also the caves give an additional to the already wondefull preserved site. You will need at least a few hours to really experience its splendid. Parking can be a hassle, so advisable to be early.
Frank van den Brink — Google review
Visited in late February, winter schedule. Very few tour groups, mostly teen-aged school groups, so park was pretty empty. Nice place for a walk, part can be accomplished for free before entering the two separate sides of the park. Each side can only be entered once, the machine will reject a second attempt. Needs a little more infrastructure maintenance and new and improved signs and maps. Staff is exceptional. Not all parts/walkways are open at this time. Street parking, €1.50 per hour, only one pay box by entry. Trick is to park illegally at pay box for a few minutes, get parking receipt then go park. App for parking would not accept me/my USA phone number.

I expected ancient ruins but find very modern wooden structure covering whole theatre. Many of the paths are closed, it's a real festival of barriers. Most of the green parts are seriously overgrown and very untidy. Ear of Dionysius and amphitheatre are the only structures worth the visit.

Park: 5/5 A really beautiful park - definitely worth a visit, when you are around Syracuse. I also loved the mixture of old stone buildings overgrown by plants. There is no litter and the landscape is just astonishing. Management: 3/5 Huge areas of the he park where not accessible when we were there (which is apparently often reported in the reviews) - but you still have to pay the full price - and there is no information about that. Also, there are mostly no signs or whatsoever about the structures and buildings, so if you don't like guided tours so much, you have to look everything up for yourself online. Also, there could be more shadow places to rest.

Would I recommend to a friend? No. Would I go again knowing what I know? No. As ruins go, I was very underwhelmed. The best thing about the caves was the cool temperatures and respite the provided from the heat. The old theater had bees completely redone in preparation for a concert so the main ruin was covered with new wooden seats. If you found my review helpful please let me know by giving me a thumbs up. Thanks.

Nice to see all those ancient remains. What I missed was some readable text at every point. They explain in 2 sentences a Roman arena of 2000 years old. That’s really too little. You can follow an audio tour, but I prefer readable tekst. Currently the so called burial place of archimedes is closed.

Again .. very disappointed with the administration of the place again employees they only speak Italian. They don’t speak any other language. They are disrespectful and they talk to you shouting not only that the place is their team the seen us. They are not well connected between each other so you have one entrance here and at the same time you have some exit the place was kind of dirty. They only have one toilet. They have this electric berry brand new stuff to get in, but they didn’t pay attention to take care of how clean is the place really didn’t feel comfortable in the place outside of the place it’s also very dirty. The place is actually not worth it. I think you can from better places inside of the city so there’s no point to go so far I think the price is too high. I don’t think administration is doing a proper job on the M Pl. is too little to charge that amount of money again increase you found better places more cheap it more carefully taking care of more clean and more big so again it’s not worth it definitely is. They are not doing a good job they supposed to promote history and they’re supposed to hire people who at least can’t take care of the tourist speaking other language which is important now and there’s something if you don’t know it’s Khaled Google translate that they can use but they just decided not to talk to you just turn the face on. This is what they are doing.z definitely I recommend go to Greece 🙌🏻

It was a great afternoon out but they should provide more signposts, found ourselves looping back a few times. It was extremely busy and we were sometimes completely blocked by what I assume to be 3 coaches full of people on a single tour.. If you are coming in summer, bring plenty of water. there isn't much shade.
Sam Cle — Google review
Organized and preserved park. Theater is mostly in tact, the grottos are nice, and the Roman arena is interesting. I liked the cave and the history of where the slaves lived and worked. Interesting how they carved the blocks. Enjoyed the park. Clean restrooms.

Expensive at €16, many tour/school groups (Monday in April), many areas closed, no explanations unless you can download brochure with mobile phone, 3/4 toilet blocks not working. I love archaeological sites but wish I had spent my entry fee on a nice lunch instead.
Rachel Ainsworth — Google review
I think these super negative reviews are ridiculous. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I have been to a LOT of archeological parks around the world and yes, many are much better in terms of signage and placard explanations but it’s not as if this park has NOTHING in that regard! There ARE Italian/English placards with albeit minimal info at each site entry. And some extra placards around the Roman theatre. The downloadable pamphlet gives a few more info tidbits for each site. Yes, there are sites closed off, which in that regard a ticket should absolutely NOT cost as much as it does at €12.50. But you DO see the most important sites of the Ear of Dionysus (of which the landscape is a pleasure to stroll around), which is fantastic and the adjacent Salt Caves. The Roman Theatre is not spectacular but definitely worth a view. The Greek Theatre is 💯 disappointing as it’s full of workers and construction preparing for the summer season. I also dinked a star bc of the audacity to charge for loos when tickets are already too much! A combo ticket with the museum is an eye-watering €22. I decided to bite the bullet and do so and I’m glad I did bc I enjoyed my time in the museum. Also, I loved the modern art sculptures at the sites and especially the blue heads in the Salt Caves. Great punch of colour.

The place is great but not good maintained. You could actually see amazing things. Entry is 13 euro but you still need to pay 1 euro for the WC although the doors do not close and there is not a single mirror on a wall. Not clean either. The parc itself is very large but you need to find out on your own where to start, where to go next and where to exit. Tall grass is hiding the view, signs are not readable anymore. You have staff standing on every corner, so you can just give them a tool in the hand to take care of the place. Practically the entry is to pay the security people, would be nice if they used it to maintain the place better. And to open a second front desk, so you don‘t keep the people waiting.
Kristina — Google review
Beautiful park with great views and scenic paths. Only complaint is that a large section was closed, and it was not made clear online or at the entrance when we got tickets. (We don't speak/read Italian so possibly it was posted somewhere that was not obvious to tourists). The maps of the park are also very confusing - we ended up just walking and exploring without using it which was better for us.
Anthony DeLeon — Google review
Was not expecting that you could visit these extraordinary gorgeous caves at the quarry there. They were breathtaking and a welcome cool down from the heat of the sun. The scultural artworks were beautiful. The Greek theater was...devasting. They have decided to build over it with a wooden structure, I suppose to use it? What a misuse of an ancient site. Tragic. The Roman amphitheater is still presevred and fantastic to see. You can see the underground tunnel entrances etc. Parking was a bit stressful. Oh! And there were about 400 high school students visiting who were extremely loud and disrespectful but if we ran ahead of the group it was mostly enjoyable. Also was 33 euros for 2??? Why so expensive. Half of it was closed off.

The seafood restaurant Hostaria San Pietro is a popular spot for locals and tourists in Trapani, western Sicily. The menu only lists what is fresh from the market and off the boats that day, so it's a great place to try local cuisine. The fish was especially fresh, and the waiters were very welcoming and helpful. The dessert options were delicious, including semifreddo and cous couscous.
It's a really nice place to eat simple local food. The fish was really fresh. The waiters were really really welcoming and helpful. Strongly suggest cous cous and the semifreddo as a dessert.

The worst fish couscous ever. A lot of couscous and just a little piece of fish and 2 clams. And if you're a tourist, they'll rip you off with the bill. 4 of us, 2 couscous dishes split among 3 of us, 1 grilled fish with potato, 2 bottle of water, 1 liter of wine, 1 limoncello: 76.00 euros.

Delicious selection of antipasti! Recommend to get the mixed plate to share. The service was friendly and sympathetic. We visited on what seemed to be quite a busy night and were happy to be sat inside without a reservation. Unfortunately, there was only one big bottle of beer left for us, after that we received small Heineken bottles, which was disappointing for us. The couscous was delicious and I would recommend to try it with the tasty brodo.

At outside, there was lack of light but okay to have food at evening if outside is not windy. Regarding service, place is very slow. 6 people, sharing plates and main dishes arrived within 2 hours so be ready if you plan to spend whole evening for a dinner here. Food was delicious, but I am not sure if it worth to spend so long time to receive food. Even food menu arrived after 15 mins, they forgot to bring napkins and water. We had to keep reminding.

We had the most amazing dinner here while visiting Trapani. The food was very authentic. We loved the fried calamari and busiate with trapanese pesto. The place was very charming and we loved that you got to see the kitchen and watch them cooking. The owner was so nice and fun!!

I loved their busiata con le sarde. Decent portion size, good amount of fish and freshly made in the kitchen while you are waiting. I don't know how but it kept me full for nearly 24 hours :) I would not call it a cheap eatery, pasta dishes cost 15-18 euro but I did not regret paying this much. I don't speak Italian or Sicilian but I managed to thank the owner (using google translate), he is very friendly.

The food is good, specially the pasta a la norma. Apart from that, everything bad. We sat at 10pm, and we ordered ten minutes later one big beer bottle, one big water bottle, a salad and two pasta dishes. After 20 minutes,we received one beer, but not the ordered one, a small one explaining that the big one was not cold; five minutes later, the closer table received one big beer bottle (probably because I don't speak italian). At 23:10 we received the two pasta dishes. Salad and water never appeared. We asked for the receipt, and it was included the water, the salad, a big beer bottle. After explaining,we only paid for the pasta and for the service, they accepted it with angry face. It's a pitty, because I had readen really good reports of this restaurant, but I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Since I didn't have a reservation, only an inside table was available. The food and the service were both excellent. The main server lady does a tremendous job juggling all the orders from inside and outside. The outside area is much larger and more pleasant. However, I was very satisfied with the seafood dishes I had and the service.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!! Amazing hospitality of Tiziano and his father, they host their guests superfriendly! they first offer wine and then suggest for the best fish of the day. I advice the pesto and vongole busiata, the melanzane and tuna busiata and, as a second course the grilled fish. they offered us passito and coffee, as they usually do with their beloved guests. it was a very sicilian familiar experience, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!

This cozy Italian restaurant, Gagini, features candle-lit dining in a stylishly restored 16th century building. The menu celebrates the classic flavors of Sicily with modern takes on classic recipes. Guests can mix and mingle at communal tables while savoring the flavors of this popular island country.
Wow wow wow!!!! From the beginning until the end an absolutely amazing experience. Service was excellent, wine recommendations were on point, food was perfect from the anis flavored bread until the lemon stripes on top of the catch of the day fish. Very much detailed and well thought-out concept. Thank you guys 🥰

Had the six course tasting menu. Very nice space with cool art - but the lights really have to be dimmed more to make the space feel intimate. The food was a very interesting interpretation of Sicilian tradition - we were in Palermo just one night so it was great to experience different flavours. Highlights include a very tender beef carpaccio with barnacles, squid with zucchini and a saffron / peach desert. Our main issue with this restaurant was the pace of service - it took twenty minutes from the time we were seated to even just get menus. Nobody asked us what we wanted to drink (an aperitivo would have been lovely) beyond the water type until thirty minutes in - we just ordered a bottle at that point. And then the pacing between dishes was extremely drawn out - we arrived at 8:30 and were out of there at 11:30. I expect service to be a bit more precise in a Michelin star restaurant.

The main highlight of our dinner was veal tongue appetizer. It was delicious dish with great, delicate texture. Tuna appetizer was tasty as well. The main course, black pork, was a bit uneven. Veggie/carrots side was great. The pork itself was in parts overly chewy.

Generally a good restaurant with nice presentation. Most of the tastes are very good, big portion compare to other michelin restaurant. Unfortunately the most expensive dish we ordered was too salty. The "lampuga" on the picture was so salty that both me and my husband could not eat it. Normally we like salty food but this one defintely went wrong. We complained to the waiter, hope he deliverd the information to the Chef. We love food from Palermo and wish Gagini a great future.

Sadly only the prices are worthy of a Michelin star. As a Michelin restaurant I reserved the terrace expecting something comfortable for the diner even in a hot summer night. But the terrace is on the front on a very noisy street with no ventilation at all (not even a single fan). The interior is really nice however, so avoid the terrace. Wine pairings are good and service was ok. But the wine was probably only for tasting as very little is served. Food is also good overall but only 1 of the 4 services was great. Not Michelin star level in any way :(

Had a wonderful time there. The atmosphere of the restaurant is peaceful and relaxing, the service is good, attentive and friendly, a bit slow at times but nothing too critical. We felt like at home what else can you ask for in a restaurant. We enjoyed the dishes from small local producers, particularly the beef tartare with hazelnut and seafood reduction which was absolutely phenomenal. The dessert with plum coulis was also noteworthy. A nice selection of local wines that is worth discovering. Good advice from the sommelière. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Very beautiful deco. But we were very disappointed with the food and the service here. Definitely overpriced for what it is and it does not correspond with the Michelin star standard. We ordered 6 course menu and none of the dishes were remarkable. Inexperienced service.

I loved our dinner here. Great service provided by a team who has a passion for fine food paired with excellent local wine. Beautiful restaurant. Excellent service. Small portions but they give you a lot of freebies so you’re full by the end of the meal. Food is exciting. The calamari “pasta” was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in my entire life. They cut the calamari so thin and completely transform it that you don’t even realize that you’re eating calamari. It was unbelievable. Order it. Just do it. Our best meal in palermo by far.
Amanda Rivkin — Google review
This was the most disappointing Michelin-star restaurant experience I have ever had, not just in Italy but anywhere, especially as we were here as part of our honeymoon. We had the 6 course tasting menu; 4 of the 6 courses were genuinely awful. It’s like no one has tasted these! The sardines were slimy and tasted a little foul, the spaghetti course was bland and lacking in texture, and the dessert was basically savoury. The amuse-bouche at the beginning was the first red flag, with the overbaked brioche being bone dry and not ‘filled’ as they had told us. In addition, they really try to push an abstract art aesthetic and experience which is not for everyone. That being said, the service was fine and the waiting staff were very nice. All together a very strange and sad experience. Would not recommend.

When in Taormina, don't miss Osteria Rosso Divino - a place where seafood reigns supreme and traditional pasta dishes get a light take on. The courtyard is lovely and the service attentive, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious meal with friends.

Great restaurant. We had lunch here, and everything we are was delicious and cooked perfectly. They have an extensive wine list with plenty of Sicilian and Etna wines. It's also tucked away, so you don't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of the main streets of Taormina. Highly recommend. There is also a lovely view of the neighboring church from the outdoor tables. They were also very knowledgeable about gluten free (celiac) options

A good place to visit in Taormina. The location is beautiful and very central. It is nestled in a little cosy courtyard which creates a nice atmosphere. My wife really enjoyed her starter while my mussels were of a good standard but not the best I’ve ever had. Both of our mains were too oily and salty for our liking. Considering the prices I would expect a much better meal.

Ciccio Sultano, the two Michelin starred chef from Il Duomo Restaurant, has opened a more casual restaurant called Banchi. The food here is fresh and made with careful sourcing of high-quality ingredients. There's also a cooking school here!
had lunch here alone, they treated me very well. I sat on the delightful patio under a shade awning in October, the weather was magnificent. Had a hearty salad of Sicilian greens with Tuna. So refreshing and filling, they served that with house made bread and olive oil. Can't beat that.

A beautiful setting with great decor. The service was friendly, but not well paced at times (possibly due to a big party in one of the rooms). Ragusa is famous for the excellence of the restaurants and the attention to quality food, this place is certainly in line but it knows how to be in an original way. Perfect whether you are looking for a high level dinner, or to consume a quick dish or a slice of the delicious cakes, but also to buy bread or cakes in the early morning

A must eat if you’re in Ragusa. Phenomenal restaurant with locally sourced and homemade ingredients with great chefs produces fantastic food. There is a great shop inside where you can buy some of I Banchi’s delicious ingredients. It was so good, we went back twice! We also are still thinking about the Ragu Arancini, the best in Sicily.

Had lunch at this restaurant which staff provides excellent service. This restaurant is located in the back streets away from the tourist crowds. It is worth the walk. The restaurant is decorated with large modern paintings and other nice decorations. We have ordered their salads, which were nice fresh and of a sizeable portion.

5 stars! Fantastic location to say the least, easy to reach especially if you are staying in the center. Everyone very welcoming upon entry, lovely decorated interior, rooms are not too noisy, soft music, not deafening. The menu is full of good food, even vegetarian, and above all not expensive! The only con can be the not well cooked pasta, but the rest is absolutely delicious. I especially wanted to compliment the waiters. Very fast! I have never been so satisfied by the staff like this. I highly recommend going to this restaurant, you will leave satisfied. Advice: I strongly recommend ordering the tasting menus, various very good dishes at a low price. Conversely, ordering several dishes from the a la carte menu costs more than the other option.

Attention: phenomenal. The setting is also beautiful - a little more tranquil given it’s just off the main plaza Food: hearty and delicious, including pulpo, pork and ravioli (as well as pasta con pomodoro for our son) Wine: selection is abundant and high quality Couldn’t ask for more.

We had a delicious dinner at I Banchi. It is more expensive than the average restaurant however it’s completely worth it if you want to “treat” yourself one night. That being said the prices are not at all exaggerated for the quality. Everything was very tasty and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The tuna also melted in your mouth. Also very nice staff. Highly recommend!

Food: 5 Stars Service: 4 Stars The food was really tasty and offered some special flavors and unusual recipes. The services wasn‘t paying full attention. They actually tried, but maybe it was a bad day for them or they just didn’t like me. (Cleaning slowly tables instead of taking my orders, forgetting the wine I have ordered, didn‘t react when I said ‚bye‘)

Food - great presentation, and delivered on local, Sicilan and modern Service on the other hand was to something to be desired. I started by asking for some kind of menu - in which I was refused. I had to ask if We should leave. Wine - excellent, except if when you run and beg for it Charming place! Glad we stoped, but would have loved a smile and someone who cared about what they were serving.

Great location in old stable! Very good and genuine food. You can decide either for fix price menu (the cheapest is at lunch, around 30€ - drinks aside), or from the multiple choice of courses. They also have different products you can by directly from the restaurant (cheese, breads, pastries, etc..) it's a must either if you are looking for a romantic place, or just to buy local products. Not to forget that it has been opened in collaboration with a 2 stars Michelin Chef, Mr. Sultano.

Excellent choice for a distinctive menu with some less typical choices. Nice menus offer vegetarian, meat and seafood options.
