Miradouro da Boca do Inferno

Mentioned on
Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Miradouro da Boca do Inferno is a picturesque footpath that offers mesmerizing views of a massive crater lake in Sete Cidades, Azores. It can be accessed by taking either a 15-minute walk from Lagoa do Canario or driving down the dirt road till the very end and parking there. The viewpoint is located close to Lagoa do Canario and is surrounded by dense forest.
Definitely a spectacular view! We did the rond walking up the easy route and going down the challenging route. Beautiful walking area
Sjoerd van Willigenburg — Google review
A truly breathtaking magnificent view!! Well worth the hike, even though it was a short 15min easy hike. From here you can see the beautiful lakes that sit on the craters of previous vulcanos from the island. Just be mindful that the weather in Azores changes very quickly and frequently, so you might be unlucky to find fog when you visit. If that was you're unfortunate case, then please do visit in another hour or day, it will be well worth it! There's plenty parking spaces just by the entrance of the trail leading to the viewpoint.
Jose Oliveira — Google review
Definitely worth a visit during your trip to the Azores! It does look like the pictures you can already find on Google but it's so impressive, you should really go and enjoy the view yourself 😊
Katie Ue — Google review
This 4.9k hike was great. It took us a minute to understand the red and yellow blazed markers, but once we understood their notations, following them became a breeze. It's beautiful and something that could be easily and enjoyably hiked in a couple hours. We were told about spotazores.com, a website with live webcams around the island and that helped guide us to know what day we should go here to best capture the beautiful weather.
Elizabeth Jenkins — Google review
Amazing trail, with absolutely stunning views, the crater or the ocean. Your pick, this is an extremely scenic hike that’s not too demanding either. Very accessible by car, we did the complete loop and it took us 4 hours to complete it. We enjoyed the serenity and beauty of it, definitely will come back!
Krn JE — Google review
Definitely a must see! Despite the fog, it was a great walk through an evergreen forrest, and the views were still 150% worth it.
Arthur Cole — Google review
IMPORTANT. Logistic information, especially for Family with kids. Visited in March 2022. The miradouro is easily accessible also with young kids (5,6ys or even 2/3ys in a baby carrier). The road is mostly flat and surrounded by amazing green threes. The walk from the starting point is about 10/15 minutes. Only at the very end there is a steep staircase, but safe and feasible. The road until the stairs is also accessible to cars, but the gate at the entrance is usually closed. To reach the miradouro: drive until the large parking slot of the “Miradouro da Lagoa do Canário”. From there you cross the road and walk in the street behind the gate. You follow the road and in 15 minutes you are arrived. In the same street you can also take a short downstairs (1/2 minutes) and visit the nice lake do Canario. View is beautiful and definitely worthwhile to visit, considering also how easy is to get there.
Mescal B. — Google review
The views are amazing. Unfortunately a lot of tourists go over the boundaries to take even better photos and ruin the nature an experience for others. Quite crowded. Limited parking.
Joerg Kirschner — Google review
Beautiful view if the weather is good (picture taken during slightly cloudy and hazy conditions). Fairly short trail from the parking spot.
Kevin L. — Google review
Undoubtedly one of the best scenic spot in azores. The panoramic view from the mountain top towards the two volcanic lakes is amazingly beautiful. Make sure to visit when there is a clear sky to have better experience. There are also short trails which can be taken to hike around the place.
Barun Kumar — Google review
No doubt this is the best view on the island! We parked the car near the road, free of charge. When you finish with the main view, go to the left for more beauty - there is a path. When you get to the edge, it is veeeery windy. It is great that this miradouro is still free. The weather is constantly changing so even if it is windy or rainy, try your chances, you may be lucky. We didn't expect that many tourists in October. I can't imagine how crowded it is in summer...
Яна Торбова — Google review
The view from up there is really beautiful. The wooden railing fits so beautifully in the scene. We also climber the surroundings for a few meters and it was also a good view, less crowded than the one with the wooden railing. It takes around 20 minutes to reach the miraduro from the parking lot near lake do Cavoa. Just follow the red path.
Alina Mertoiu — Google review
We didn't have luck with the weather, it was too cloudy and we could not see the lake, but it is a very nice walk up to the miradouro and back, with stops near the duck lake and the green forest.
Helli Shechter — Google review
Breath taking views! We tried this a few times as it was quite foggy and we were hoping for a view. The attempts were worth it. Go and enjoy the views and a short walk.
Mihai Tibrea — Google review
Parked at Parque estacionamento Lagoa do Canario and hiked to the viewpoint. Weather can be unpredictable at times. Great views of the lakes below.
Jon Wyatt — Google review
Arguably the best view in all the Azores, given the proper weather. Be sure to check the webcams before going and keep in mind the weather changes very fast there. Go early if you want to avoid the crowd.

Lagoa do Fogo

Mentioned on
Lake
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Lagoa do Fogo is a crater lake located in the Agua de Pau Massif stratovolcano on the island of Sao Miguel. The views from the viewpoints are stunning and it's usually clear when you visit, but be prepared for foggy conditions.
Check the Webcams before coming up. It can get very cloudy And foggy so try to come on a semi sunny day. Many hiking trails or a parking lot very nearby. Do not drive to this location if you do not plan to hike! Drive to parque do estacionamento otherwise it’ll probably be around a 4-5 hour hike.
Jenny — Google review
A beautiful hike which takes about 2h. Unfortunately we weren't lucky to see it due to the fog. But I still enjoyed it. I would do it again. :)
Milena wetterová — Google review
Beautiful view
vedant shirke — Google review
I did an unofficial route bordering the lagoon and the views are spectacular. I arrived early and was able to enjoy the place without people. I was planning to do a circular route, but at one point the seagulls were nesting and became very aggressive, so we couldn't continue and we had to return by the same route. Very easy hiking for those who are used to hiking and logically you have to go with the right clothes.
barbierikab — Google review
A breathtaking viewpoint ! Well worth a visit however plan in advance . If you are driving yourself before 7pm then note you will be forced to park up and take the shuttle bus to the top at a charge of €5 per person for a few minutes drive !!!! We were lucky to arrive around 7pm in the evening when the crowds were less and drive ourselves then over mountain to descent to Lagoa . Beautiful scenic drive .
John Swail — Google review
Definitely a must-see. A lake within an extinct volcano crater - wow! The drive up to the views are stunning & the smells from the various flora is amazing.
Niss — Google review
Beautiful view of the lake and surrounding of this natural reserve. As protected area you cannot drive up there with rental cars. A shuttle bus takes you from a parking place lower on the road.
Dieter Morre — Google review
What a simply breathtaking place! It was very foggy and windy when we visited, but what a phenomenal view!!! There is a trail to climb up but I did not do it, especially in that wind. I highly recommend adding this stop to your itinerary when visiting this island 💗💗
Jackie W. — Google review
A wonderful place to visit, especially when you go in the morning on a sunny day. The Lagoa do Fogo offers a great view of multiple lakes and gives you an idea of the volcanic origin of São Miguel. If you go after 9 a.m., you have to take a shuttle bus that starts once every hour and costs 2,50 Euro per person. You might need to wait a little and be prepared to board a crowded bus.
Benedikt Backhaus — Google review
Beautiful place, but getting there was a nightmare for us. A police officer wouldn't allow anyone to drive up to the lake themselves, instead you needed to park in a car park half way up and squeeze onto a very busy bus with everyone else paying 5 euros each for a ticket, it was a good 45mins before the bus arrived as well). It was also a hassle getting back down as the buses seem to just stop in random places to pick people up, not the designated bus stops. This ended up with people arguing with bus drivers and even the drivers arguing amongst themselves and cost us at least an hour waiting on the mountain before we could get back to the car park for our car. Overall not the best experience.
Adam Everett — Google review
Definitely go there. It is worth exploring the paths around the lake. You will get tired, but the views will make up for it. Note: there are no places to buy drinks or snacks nearby - take them with you on the trip. There is spacious parking.
Robert-Wojciech Piotrowicz — Google review
If you decide to follow the Google Map route (as I did) you'll end up walking in a dirt road for about 1 hour until you reach the lake. Not the best trail ever but it has some nice flora and viewpoints later on. It also goes mostly uphill. You need to leave the car at the beginning (there's a parking spot nearby)

Parque Terra Nostra

Mentioned on
Botanical garden
Nature & Parks
The Terra Nostra Garden Park is a picturesque tropical botanical garden located in Furnas, Setubal. The gardens are renowned for their thermal baths which can be enjoyed without needing to stay at the hotel. The park has a stunning collection of plants and flowers from all over the world, some dating back millions of years. It is also a popular spot for walking with different paths throughout filled with flowers, greenery, ponds and more.
A fantastic experience- a huge geothermal pool that was surprisingly deep! Everyone welcome and it's got a nice chilled out atmosphere- there are showers and toilets but no lockers. Enjoy a swim, have a walk around the incredible gardens and then have a picnic or treat yourself to a meal at the garden bar next to the hotel. The food and service there is exceptional. Parking on the street is a pain. There is a car park up the road just after the school which is less than a 10 minute walk away but much easier and free. Highly recommend a visit to the gardens and pools. Great day out and good value for the entrance fee.
Jenny Bennett — Google review
Gorgeous park. Actually, the main pool is just a nice addition. The walks around the trees are far more interesting. I recommend saving a few hours for the visit as you might want to wander around all the the paths there. One downside is that I lost my beloved sunglasses there today :( If you find them, let me know! :P
Pawe? Wawrzynek — Google review
What a great park. The grounds were pristine and the gardens were spectacular. Had a quick dip in the hot spring pool which was amazing. Highly recommend visiting. We were there earlier in the day on a Saturday and wasn’t busy at all. Visit was first week of April so maybe not peak tourist time.
Quinn Spencer — Google review
You purchase the ticket to enter the garden and the thermal baths at the entrance. The garden is lovely to wander around, take in all the colors of green. The thermal baths are amazing on a cloudy day - warm, iron rich and relaxing. The changing rooms are very few (so look out for any big groups coming in to not stand in line for too long). The water will stain your swimwear, wear black to not care and shower afterwards. We located no lockers, so maybe take only the necessities, open to public until 4pm.
Patricija Komosa — Google review
The park is stunning, offering a delightful opportunity for a peaceful and leisurely small hike. It boasts a wide array of attractions, from the vibrant and colorful flowers to the majestic trees and serene lakes. Additionally, there are captivating animal sculptures that add a unique charm to the park. If you intend to explore every nook and cranny, be prepared to allocate up to 2 hours of your time. However, for those seeking a swifter experience, you can breeze through in just 40 minutes with fast passes. Following your adventure, treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation by indulging in a soothing soak in the hot pool.
Razen Eid — Google review
The hot spring water was why we came. The water was lovely. It looks dirty as some other reviews mentioned but that is to be expected of a natural spring and doesn't bother us. However, the changing facilities are primitive. Half a box with a shower curtain, half exposed, no lockers. A big contrast to the hot springs in Iceland...
Bram Verstockt — Google review
The entry fee for people not staying in the hotel is 10 euros, and it can be bought at the entrance. There was no waiting line for getting the tickets. I didn't swim because I found it not organised with the changing rooms. There are two toilets and one small changing room area, which makes it difficult and unpleasant. The gardens are beautiful to walk and enjoy nature. I really think it would be a huge improvement if they invest in making bigger changing rooms and toilets.
F. Zefi — Google review
Our family with young kids enjoyed it! The water was really warm in January. The park is beautiful. The staff isn’t super friends and it’s a tad expensive. I didn’t realize it’s in the network with the Lisbon science center…entrance to the park cost as much as our annual membership.
Jaime Key — Google review
Absolutely incredible. If you're in the Azores, please make the trip, you won't regret it. Like everyone else, we came for the hot springs and these are as amazing as you wpidl expect, from the yellow main pool to the side pools they are a really unique experience. But please don't miss the rest of the park, with some stunning views and amazing scenery it's worth spending a whole afternoon here. Just make sure you don't wear swimming clothing you wouldn't want to get stained by the water! And bring your own water and snacks
Paul Garner — Google review
First: we didn’t use the pool so it is only about the park. Prices are the same if you use the pool or not (a bit of a shame as it could be easily done as practiced elsewhere on the island). The park itself is nice but not worth 10€ fee. Other parks are quite is nice for less or no money.
Michael Betz — Google review
Never thought bathing in hot, mud-coloured water would be fun, but I must say this was a pretty interesting experience. Especially on a cloudy day, with all four of us soaked in cool drizzle. If you know a thing or two about rare plants, you'll probably enjoy the place, too.
Sylwester Wierzycki — Google review
It's a great place to relax. Super nice atmosphere and great outdoors Spa. Important! do only wear swim wear you don't care about or NON bright swim wear. The iron in the water will permanent stain swimwear orange es the bathing shorts lining.
chalga10001 — Google review
Gorgeous park and the hot springs are incredible. We came here during a tour and unfortunately only had an hour to spend there but even so, it was enough to see how beautiful the place is. Will have to return another day! Remember to not wear a bathing suit or towels that you like because the iron-coloured water will stain them. I would also recommend wearing your bathing suit upon entering the park so that you don't have to wait in line at the changing rooms (they are currently constructing bigger and better changing rooms so that might change once they have renovated rooms, but the temporary structures have 3 rooms and only a few bathrooms and showers). After soaking in the water for a while, I suggest taking a walk through the gardens because they were absolutely stunning, magical almost.
Katrina Caruso — Google review
As part of our Viator tour, we stopped here. To enter the thermal bath, it was 10 euros each. The water colors your suit some, due to the iron. It is wonderful and makes you feel so good. I would love to stay longer but had more to see on this day.
Brenda Lowther — Google review
The gardens were beautiful and the natural hot spring bath was lovely. When we visited there was ongoing construction including temporary showers/changing rooms - these were very basic and also meant there was quite a long queue to change/shower. At this price level (€10 for entry to both the bath/garden with no time limit) that’s more than fair enough and it’s still amazing value with these issues. Albeit, if the showering/changing situation was less basic/cleaner with less queues, this would improve the overall experience and we would have been more than happy to pay more. Info: there are iron deposits in the spring water which might stain your skin/swimwear/towels.
Angela O'Boyle — Google review
I do not recommend it at all. 10 euros thrown to the trash, the price is too high considering that the conditions for thermal bath are inhumane. There’s no adequate place to change clothes, shower or go to the bathroom. They put tiny houses with 3 showers, 2 bathrooms and maybe 3-4 changing rooms. Everything is in poor condition and very big lines. You end up seeing naked people changing in the middle of the park under the trees… Ah and showers don’t have warm water, at least the one I was in. The place left me with quite unpleasant feeling, definitely won’t recommend it
Anastasia Klyuchnikova — Google review
For the experience of a thermal pool it's OK but lacking a cool shower and advice when using such facilities. Personal belongings are your problem but there are points around the pool to hang bags etc especially if it rains which keep belongings from getting wet. The gardens are well worth a walk round very pleasant are a dip.
Trevor Busby — Google review
Amazing garden to walk around. Great variety of plants, flowers and trees, nicely designed. You shouldn't miss the opportunity to swim in the pool with the mineral water Temperature is around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius... very relaxing experience.
Anestis Mavridis — Google review
I enjoyed visiting Terra Nostra a lot. I didn't have time to follow all the trails and see everything but I did get to do a pretty good loop. The gardens are beautiful. I went in the thermal pool but not the jacuzzis. As expected, the pool was very orange. Definitely wear a dark colored or old bathing suit. One thing that caught me off guard is how deep the pool is. Since it's so opaque you are unable to see the bottom. If you're a smaller adult or have children with you you'll want to be careful upon entering.
Mariah Schimon — Google review
We didnt stay at the hotel, only visited the park. It was "winter" when we went, but the park was still phenomenal to walk around. It must be breathtaking in the spring and summer when all of the flowers are in full bloom.
Arthur Cole — Google review
We visited for the baths. The bath was nice. There are no lockers and the temporary change rooms can get a little crowded. I imagine this will be better after the construction. I would also recommend visiting the park trails if you can. It's a beautiful park!
Becky N — Google review
Obviously, like most reviews say, be prepared for stained bathing suits. The bio diversity is amazing, mostly the flora. The changing and shower area can be better. Wish there were lockers.
Krishna Chalasani — Google review
Fun visit. Nicely maintained park. Fun walk through the park with beautiful sights. However, would not recommend to take the long pathway at the rear of the park (as shown on the guided map), not much to see there. Bathing is also a must, really nice water temperature. Unfortunately the showers and 4 changing rooms are outdated, but they are clean. Overall good experience.
Niels Dewelde — Google review
Beautiful botanical gardens! It is absolutely worth it to spend a few hours walking around. I didn't try the hot springs as the set up is very basic, but they were in the middle of building showers, so this might get better organized in the future.
Svilena Dimitrova — Google review
Visited in February 2024, and we were lucky to have a cerulean blue sky and mild temperatures for us to enjoy the tank and the gardens. However, even with rain is a memorable experience due the water being so deliciously warm. In fact, probably in the Summer the heat will be more difficult to endure (wouldn’t know as I’ve always visited in cooler weather). The garden is massive and we spent an entire morning exploring the nooks and crannies of it before enjoying the waters. Please be aware the water is naturally hot and yellow - it is a volcanic island, after all. The colour is because of iron, so do not use the designer swimsuit you might have as it will be ruined. Preferably wear a dark and old one (swimsuit or bikini) to avoid staining an expensive one and be prepared for dry hair afterwards. The park is undergoing improvement works so there are no changing rooms, however there are shower cubicles (only cold water, I’m afraid) where you can change, and there are enough toilets around the tank. There is also hanging places for your clothes that are protected from the rain. Eating in the park is not allowed, but there is a restaurant on site (didn’t try) and you can leave for a bite in town and return using the same ticket. Whatever the season is an absolutely gorgeous place right in the centre of Furnas (one of my favourite places in São Miguel).
Maria Elisabete Gaspar — Google review
Absolute highlight of our trip. The garden is stunning, even with parts of it undergoing construction/improvements. We’re definitely taking back inspiration for our home garden. The thermal pool was also very enjoyable. We saved it for last after walking around the garden for 45 minutes. On Feb. 6, 2024 the entrance and changing areas are undergoing improvements. The changing rooms are temporary but certainly passable. We came with our bathing suits on underneath our clothes. Right next to the pool are stands (look like umbrellas) to hang up your belongings. We brought our own towels and dark colored swimsuits (as others suggested). This is a must do while on the island.

The Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego is a picturesque lookout point situated on the verdant mountainside gardens of Sao Miguel Island, offering sweeping ocean views. The area boasts a small dirt road beside a cliff, surrounded by hydrangeas and is an ideal spot for picnics. This viewpoint is known as one of the best in Azores with beautiful garden flowers, picnic areas, and free toilets available to visitors.
Gorgeous miradouro with very well maintained park full with wonderful flowers and a few cats. We found it by mistake and it’s probable one of the prettiest miradouro on the island!

One of the best viewpoints on the island! Beautiful and relaxing to be there. There are a lot of tables, you could easily have a snack or lunch there, there are also bbqs. Beware of the cats though! A lot of cats which are super cute. But they go into trash bins, so have hand sanitizer with you.

This is by far the most beautiful and well-maintained park I have seen on the whole island. This place radiates peace, it is beautiful, fragrant, has wonderful views, wonderful nooks and crannies, a large parking lot and restrooms. You will be greeted by many cats who own everything here.

I've been to many gardens around the world and didn't expect to be impressed by this one. But it is such a lovely place to walk, enjoy the flowers and trees and to bring your lunch - there are convenient benches and tables. And there is a view to the ocean. What makes this garden different from the rest I've seen in Europe is that this one is free and it is made for people to relax. It is so beautiful! I love the time we spent here!

Restaurant
This popular Portuguese restaurant features regional cuisine, live art and music in one space. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a traditional tavern with wooden tables, chairs and shelves stocked with a generous wine cellar plainly visible on the walls. Artists are often invited to exhibit their work on the restaurant's walls. Tasca is usually very busy, but offers an excellent tasting menu alternative for those who want to try more than just tapas.
The restaurant is very popular so be prepared to sit with many other guests in a packed restaurant. We had 7 different dishes and they are all very tasty. The staff is very friendly. I want to try something local (beef triple) and they even warned us about the ingredients. But have no fear it was really delicious.

Our final meal at Ponta Delgada. I tried a Sagres mini, for mains we ordered the fish of the day (grilled Barracuda), the spiral cut grilled Beef ribs w/ fries (daily special) a kale soup and we finished with a slice of Pineapple cake. The fish and pineapple cake were amazing. The beef ribs were a bit chewy in places but ok overall. The service was excellent and this place is very popular with locals. Only walk-ins so get there in good time. Highly recommended.
AJ luvzlondon — Google review
Fresh produce guaranteed. As many local restaurants take a siesta from 3pm-6pm and Tasca is open, you may need to wait for a table at this time and then wait a bit for the lunch to be prepared. It is worth the wait though, fish we tried was FRESH and delicious. The menu can change as people order, so you can try something new that wasn’t there before. We recommend taking a starter, a main dish and a desert. The staff is extremely friendly and funny, they recommend a dish if you are uncertain.

A charming place to eat, with a pub-like interior. The place has a mix of locals and tourists. While the vegetarian options are limited, what I did taste was delicious. We started with the local cheese and red pepper sauce. The cheese is briney and salty which pairs well with the red pepper sauce, but pairs even better with their garlic bread. Yum! My husband ordered the tuna sandwich, which is actually a tuna fillet. From the very first bite he said it tasted so fresh, like it was caught early that day. It came with fried chips that were perfectly done. I ordered a salad which had fresh cheese and veggies. I highly recommend eating here, but be prepared to wait for a table at peak meal times.

We came here 3 times during our stay in Ponta Delgada. One time at lunch, then back to dinner two times (waited 1-2hours)!! Loved all appetizers, fresh fish dishes, sangrias and people enjoyed working there!

Amazing everything. As a party of 1, I was able to get into the bar with almost no wait. Everything is fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Service was attentive, many servers helped me throughout the night. My favorite was the blood sausage, incredible how it was both crumbly and rich. And the pineapple were so sweet, delicious!

Was in the Azores, ponta Delgada, with my best friend on vacation. Our tour guide recommended grabbing dinner here and sharing a bunch of items. It was wonderful!! The staff here make you feel very welcome and even catch themselves singing/enjoying the evening with you! They spoke English and were very kind! We ordered a bunch of different items and everything was delicious (highly recommend the cheese/walnuts in a pastry and the beef stew!). The food was a great deal (very affordable) and you’ll leave full! It is a relaxed and chill atmosphere. Very suitable for groups, date night, or with the kiddos. Also the desserts are not to be missed (we had the bean tart & pineapple cake), both were great! Highly recommend you enjoy a meal here!!!

We went twice. I didn't like the grilled fish and tuna sesame steak. Both were too salty and the grilled fish was small and dry. The soups were very good, also we liked ceviche, the special of the day. The prices are very cheap.

The place was busy when we came on a Saturday in December. We had to wait to be seated. But it was worth the wait. We had a delicious meal. The decor is cozy and rustic. The meals are delicious and have large portions.

Although we waited quite a while to get a seat at a table, I can't say that they have the best food. The shrimps were really delicious and the fish meat sweet and tasty. As for the tuna, I can't say that I liked it.

Absolute best food experience I had in all my Portugal trip. The tuna steak was so fresh and perfectly fatty and filled with flavor. They also have a good selection of beer. The staff, even so busy with hungry customers were able to stop and chat. I sat by the bar and was treated to amazing service and beer tastes. I capped off the meal with pineapple cake which was paired with tawny port. I was in heaven.

Delicious food, very generous portions and incredibly fresh choices. It’s definitely worth the wait ( we waited an hour at peak dinner time -7pm). Nivea is such a friendly, relaxed member of the team and she’ll make the wait easier ( and has a sharp eye for estimating how long before a table becomes available). Mario was our waiter and he was so kind and professional. Definitely recommended. We will be going back!

Best Portuguese food we had in Ponta Delgada. Affordable and delicious. We went twice during our stay. Service can be very slow and waits can be very long (1-2 hours). Worth the wait. They sell some of their food to go once dinner service starts so you can snack/ drink while you wait.

We arrived around 14:45 on Friday and we only waited 10’ to be seated. We ordered morcillas con ananas (to try some local food) and it was not really our taste. The gambas were very tasty and the fish of the day fresh and well done. Only the side fried vegetables were not a good taste combination, but at least there were also sweet potatoes on the dish.

This place is the best food you can find on the island. They have great local dishes at good prices. I tried the local beer and wine. Don't miss the sausages and grilled shellfish that tastes like abalone. They also serve different grilled fish, depending on what they catch. It's all local food. This place gets busy after 8 PM so try to go early or else you’ll wait. Friendly staff will explain anything you need to know on the menu.

Go early or expect to queue! It’s worth the wait - for us it was the best food we had on the island. I loved the dishes you can’t find elsewhere. Wish there’s been more of us so we could have Ordered a bigger selection of dishes.

A must visit when on The island. Be careful though, food is delicious and servings are very generous (massive). Pork belly, the duck risotto, the fish, and chicken were all excellent! Prices super reasonable. Will try to go back soon.

Got 2 “small plates” and garlic bread and that was plenty of food for me! Very delicious. I arrived at around 6:30pm for a 15-20 min wait, anything later is a looong wait

It's definitely a must try. The place is busy, so it is better to be there early or be prepared to wait. The food is very good and I recommend it to everyone.

This was easily one of our most satisfying meals during our visit to the Azores. Festive fun atmosphere, diverse mix of clientele, friendly hospitality, excellent service. Nice selection of local foods & wines. Many things are walkable. Distances between tend to be short and nearby.

Great food, service and atmosphere. Very nice music and very helpful staff. The menu is great and there are lots of drinks options. I ordered the fish of the day and it was amazing! Can’t wait to go back.

Go there early as there is generally a loooong queue . You can get your name on the list and come back in an hour too but finding good food and actually a table in Ponta Delgada is so hard for some reason and most places do not even let you in without a reservation. A Tasca is a good one in that sense but turned out the food was really really good as well! I def suggest the Tuna steak with sesame seeds. It is great and very filling. Deserts were also good and worth a try.

Restaurant
This restaurant is considered by many as the best steak restaurant on Sao Miguel. It has a modern and cozy atmosphere, which contributes to a gastronomic experience you will want to repeat. The meat here is of top quality, and vegetarians are not apt to enjoy it. It can be expensive, but it's one of the best places in the island for enjoying a juicy and tender steak.
The UBER driver that picked us up from the airport recommended us to go have dinner at this place. We tried to reserve a table but were unable to do it (they only had vacancies for 5 days later and we would already be back home) but the maître told us to drop by at 2100 (9PM), since we might be lucky and have a table for us. The next day we went there and requested a table for 11 people, he wrote it down and we were given a table 30 minutes later. The staff was very professional, welcoming and fluent with English. We ordered Queijo D'Assoçaçió (Association's cheese) and Queijo S. Jorge (St. George's Cheese) and blood sausage with pinapple. The D'Assoçaçió cheese tasted similar to the Queso de Tetilla from northern Spain and the St George tasted sinilar to white cheese. The blood sausage was tasty, but it does not have anything to do with pineapple at all. It gastes good by separate, it does not make any sense at all to be presented in the dosh together, however I do encourage you to order it since it tastes great by separate. The soup tasted very well, the fish was very nice. After the starters, we moved on to the steaks. I highly recommend ordering it if you drop by. It is extremely well cooked and tasteful, best I have had in a long time. I ordered 300gr tenderloin and it tasted overwhelmingly great. My friends ordered other types of steaks and they were very good as well. The beer and wine were very good as well. Finally we ordered Caipiraos, which were extremely sweet and refreshing. The prices are low for the quality and ammount you are given. All in all, I deeply suggest you come here and try this amazing piece of gastronomy that São Miguel has to offer.

Good, not great. There are better steak restaurants on the island including o Silva and casa do Abel. There’s definitely good variety in the sauces and the steak is cooked right but the quality can be better - still a tug of war with the meat to eat. Big portions though. The fries are good. Appetizer section is small and mostly unimpressive. Skip the bread, comes out of a bag and doesn’t look fresh. Dessert is alright but nothing to turn heads. Drinks menu is comprehensive and much larger than other restaurants around. Reservations needed as it gets filled any day.

We were disappointed by our meal here after super high expectations! The first problem was their booking system…we had to give our names on a list (actual pen & paper) and waited on site for an hour! There were quite a few people waiting at lunch time. We tried the starter of local blood sausage with pineapple which was good. I ordered the 300g sirloin house steak (w/ fried egg, garlic & peppers). The steak was massive but had zero fat and was drenched in a sauce…which meant there was no charred texture at all. Basically the steak was "too wet". My companions had the pepper and passion fruit sauce steaks and we all agreed that the meat was chewy. The value for money is good but we were disappointed considering the hype on the local Azorean beef.

This place was awesome. The food was great and the ambiance is nice. The staff is friendly and quick to help. Our food came out quicker than we expected and it was amazing. I had the flamed chicken breast and the taste was great. 10/10 would go there again. Prices are anywhere from 10 to 30 euros depending on what you want to eat.

They say you should make a reservation but we dropped in around lunch on a Friday and had no issue or wait to get a table nor did any of the people who arrived after us and there appeared to be a steady flow. Take that for what it's worth. Very friendly staff at the door and very friendly servers who happily explained menu items and answered our questions. We started with a lovely shrimp dish, garlic shrimp. For mains my missus had a pork loin with pineapple and I had a sirloin with a passion fruit cream sauce. Both came with fries. The meat was very tasty and cooked as requested. The fries were different from what we would get in Canada but were very tasty. We both had very tasty beers. We were both happily stuffed by the time we left. Very much recommended.

All food was good, steaks well flavored and properly prepared. Despite the language barrier the waiter helped us choose the right wine, so far everything was great. Unfortunately, I have to remove at least(!) one star - after the main course other waiter brought us a tablet with a menu of desserts, but he didn't come back at all, even though we had a table full of empty dishes and tried to summon him. We would understand if the restaurant was full and they were really busy, but it wasn't that case - there was maybe half of the restaurant full. So after half an hour we paid at the bar and left. We also paid for the salad, which we ordered but did not receive - but this is mainly my fault, I should have checked the receipt better. Unfortunately, this conclusion ruined our experience and we would have to think a lot about coming back.

Incredible dinner. We went early, 4:30 and we did not need a reservation. The food was so yummy. I drank a Kima, passion fruit soda. I enjoyed it. I had the tenderloin steak in passion fruit cream sauce. It was very good. The fries were hot. Feel free to ask for ketchup, mustard pepper and salt. My husband ordered the Tornado a Continental. Wow! That was amazing. Two bacon wrapped filets, fries, vegetables and a fun trip of sauces. They will only cook these rare to medium, but man was it delicious. We finished with the chocolate cake. It came with whipped cream, passion fruit ice cream, wafer cookies and chocolate sauce. Everything was really delicious and we highly recommend dinner here. We skipped bread and appetizers, per other reviews. The portions are very generous. Go hungry!!
Michelle Black — Google review
Good honest steaks. Ordered blood sausage as a starter which was very tasty. Got two tenderloin steaks to share between 4 people, one with 3 pepper sauce, the flavour was gorgeous and the steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. The other one was a traditional one which was also very good but a bit more basic. Next time would definitely try the one with the cheese sauce. Definitely very good quality meat. The ambience of the place is not very cosy, hence 4 starts, but that’s not the point of the place. Definitely would recommend.

Amazing food. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend this place if you are hungry. There was a bit of a wait but well worth it.

The experience will likely vary greatly depending on where you are travelling from. We have exceptional beef back home and this did not compare favourably with what we have available locally. The sear was inadequate and the steaks would benefit from additional seasoning. The steak was cooked to order. We all requested medium rare and received the same. The service was okay though friendly and the location is relatively busy, even in the off season. If you come from somewhere with good beef I do not think that you will be impressed with what is available here and you will likely enjoy the seafood which the island has to offer more.
Parker Vandermeer — Google review
The food and the service were very good. The soup, blood sausage with pineapple and the steak (meat) were great. My partner had meat and I chose the vegetarian option. The vegetarian option, Seitan steak was bad - I never had Seitan steak before and hence cannot compare it to anything. So, I would recommend trying the other dishes and not the seitan steak. Everything else we ordered there tasted very good.
Sree Ch — Google review
We came because of all the recommendations but unfortunately we cannot agree with them. The service is great (really friendly staff) but the meat was rather chewy and hard to eat alhough we both ordered tenderloin. The side salad was definitely not fresh, we tried to eat it but it was not good. The vegetables were cooked way to long and the fries did not have salt. The dessert was okay but very sweet. The wine was very good though. So summed up it was okay but we would not go there again.

I will remember this restaurant for a long time. We made the reservation for first hour available 12.30. We went for THE bife, couldnt have made a better choice. The meat, the sauce, the egg.. it was a great combination of flavours that makes it perfect! No doubt, come here, ask for bife de lombo!

This is a very popular restaurant. We waited in line for about 30-40 minutes. With so many people wanting to visit this restaurant, it is very strange that they have not yet made it possible to make reservations with a limited time of stay, or have made an electronic menu. The meat is very tasty and tender here. The restaurant staff tried very hard to make our stay comfortable.

Book a table here immediately! We were blown away by how professional the staff was and how tasty the food was here. We wanted to book a table for a future date on site, but it wasn't possible due to them being fully booked! Book ahead. The wine was great, the steaks were amazing and the desserts were the best i've had in Portugal.

The Mané Cigano lunchtime favourite is a fresh, tasty and easy on the pocket option for travellers. The meals are typically regional and affordable, with a simple and familiar space in Ponta Delgada. Finally, do not sleep on the beef stew at this local spot - it's seriously delicious!

Only serve food at lunch. We went around 7pm, stopped in for a couple of drinks. Owner is friendly and this is definitely a community spot, he was like the mayor of the district. Legend.
Zsuzsa P — Google review
It was a super hot and muggy afternoon and it was overly uncomfortably hot in there! We couldn't wait to get up. A/C was off since the door was open. The restaurant had 4 (6 people) tables and my friend and I were seated with a family at one table. Wednesday is their busiest day because that is the day you can get octopus (stewed with potatoes). But if you don't order at least the day before your octopus you will not be able to get it on that Wednesday! So order ahead if this is what you want. They are technically not a restaurant but a beer house so they only serve food in the afternoon and not evenings. Do try their special drink of local wine with orange pop - not to be missed. Its like a strong Sangria. We had the stewed octopus. It was good but very salty like many other fish dishes I found on the island. Therefore 4 stars instead of 5. They are known for their very fresh grilled large sardines. If I go again, that's what I would try.

The food is just great! The best beef stew ever, so tasty! The service is not excellent but the family food they serve is definitely worth it. I had to way 45 minutes for a table to be free because they just have 4 and it's usually very busy. I'll suggest to go there early but don't worry if you have to wait it worth every minute. Prices are fair and the Especial beer is so refreshing! They also have delicious sweet bean pasties as dessert.

I'd rather keep this place a secret but a local was kind enough to recommend this tasty spot so I'll pass it on. Chicharros are the usual order here but do not sleep on the beef stew. Seriously.

Very small place and very popular with locals, so you know it's good. Very cheap (mostly 6 EUR per dish) filling, good tasting fresh food with a similar atmosphere to an english cafe/chip shop. The menu is very simple with a dish of the day, and food very filling and the staff very welcoming. A little tricky trying to find the place, but it serves food from 12:00 - 15:00. Shame I found this place so late on my holiday as I wanted to try the whole menu. The food in the picture is the fried sardines menu, and it was absolute heaven.

Fresh fish in a lovely location. Great corner where you can enjoy nice food even feeling the waves next to you. Great view and very well organized staff. There is a salad buffet where you can choose the ingredients of your side salad coming with the fish. We loved it

This place was recommended by our hotel receptionist as the best seafood on the island. After spending 3 days in sao miguel I have to agree. You get to pick a choice of your fresh fish to grill. We picked the sea bream which was so flavorful. They grill it with salt, pepper, and olive oil — you can taste the sweetness of the fish. We also ordered the octopus salad which was good. For dessert we tried the pineapple cake which is a bit sweet for my taste. Really enjoyed the food right on the water. Would recommend.

This spot is hands down the best restaurant on the island. You have a variety of fresh catch of the day and the scenery is just jaw dropping in open air and coastal seaside views. The ambience is quite lively and due to the open air it’s just a great place to have sunset dinner. Recommend the grilled Barracuda and would not recommend the grilled Tuna as it was a bit too rough. The prices are fair and it comes with a all you can eat salad bar.
Jean Du — Google review
Very nice fish and seafood restaurants. We ordered typical starters and 4 grilled fishes for the 5 of us. It was definitely too much food. The service is good and fast. The atmosphere is nice and pleasant. The fish is succulent and extremely fresh and juicy. A very nice place that deserves its reputation.

Super nice location! I got this place recommended by a local and I checked it out for dinner. This place is right by the sea and it’s amazing to hear the waves while you have delicious food. Stunning location with somehow even better food. We loved the fish, which was very well seasoned, as well as the mussels. A bit more expensive than similar restaurants on the island, but there is no doubt that it is worth it.

Our favourite meal in our two week holiday on Sao Miguel. What amazing seafood! If you are going for lunch, get there early! They only serve the fish they catch that day so you don't know exactly what you will get until you turn up, but they all come with a great salad buffet and a beautiful view!

AMAZING! The best restaurant on the island. Got a recommendation to go there and it was the best decision. Gorgeous place, with stunning views. It is a bit windy but that’s part of the experience. They have sitting inside if it gets too much. Ordered lapas that were so fresh and tasty, followed by grilled mix of fish of the day. It was very tasty and full of flavours. The pork fish was really good as well as barracuda. The service was fast and friendly. The wine is a bit on a pricey side but it’s everywhere across the island. Will be definitely coming again before the end of the trip!

Nice gem that is not fully touristic (you'll find some locals there too!) That offers excellent food by the sea. This is a place to go for fish and shell fish (not even sure they offer meat options) and the food is great. They get quite busy, so expect slow service (probably 1h30 or 2h00 for a lunch), but in my opinion was worth it!

Out of all the places we’ve been on the island, this was the most underwhelming. We got tuna and parrot fish both were just ok. Shrimp cocktail was not fresh. Higher price than most. Pro: great view of the bay. Fast service since they want to turn the tables.

Thank you kitchen staff for letting us try the limpets!!! We highly enjoyed our dinner experience here. We chose our table and my husband and I shared a sangria pitcher and chose two of the “fish of the day.” We got the tiger fish and the barracuda. I liked the barracuda because it was a softer fish and he preferred the tiger fish because it had a more grilled texture. The hostess took us to the display case to show us all the fish to choose from which we greatly appreciated. Price was higher than other restaurants but it was fun to try more than one fish. If you want to make an economical choice I’d say choose an appetizer or two and share a fish of the day. We felt that was the way to do it since the fish is served “family style” with sides of potato, pepper, and tomato on the plate.

SO many people recommended this place to us, and it still managed to exceed expectations! I love the setup here, you can go for a swim in the ocean right next to the restaurant, then stroll right in for a great meal. They don't take reservations, so come early to avoid a wait. The best things here are the octopus salad and the triggerfish- so juicy it tastes more like meat than fish! The view is also incredible, overlooking the ocean. Definitely worth a visit or two!

Lovely restaurant overlooking the ocean. Excellent fish and seafood. A little surprising was only discovering that the waitress added Grilled limpets for 15EUR to our bill. We didn’t take these at all. But I hope it was a mistake only. Nevertheless the restaurant is excellent.

Bar Caloura is the perfect place for fish and seafood lovers. You get to try different type of fishes and fresh out of the sea. Their fish was exquisite, the prawns were well seasoned and the limpets and mussels also. There’s also an unlimited salad buffet to accompany the “peixe do dia” plate. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

I had put a star in this restaurant due to the reviews, but I was disappointed. The fish soup had mostly onions and other vegetables. Instead, the fish of the day was okay, but the potatoes were overcooked and not fresh. Definitely, the location is good.

👎🏻It's def an average place. 👎🏻 I don't know how people are leaving such high ratings, maybe they don't generally eat good food, and are used to this? We got octopus salad, Azores' Cheese, Fish soup and coconut cake. 🍲Fish soup was the most tasteless one I ever had in my whole life, I dont know whats the deal with that. 🥗Octopus salad was good, had a good amount of octopus in it. 🧀Cheese was okay, just maybe better with a pairing or a little sauce? 🍰Coconut cake was also good. But overall, it did not amaze us. Note: the service staff might have long nails but if they do please at least make sure they do not touch inside the plates.

Best steak we’ve had in the Azores. It comes with hand cut fries which were light and delicious. The steak was so juicy and I had a side of rice which was a perfect combo. Their limpets were also delicious and the octopus salad was perfect. Had a local vibe and definitely gets super busy.

If you want Bife with great service I’d recommend Associaçao Agricolo. Service here was terrible. We didn’t have a reservation and received a table were one of the seat was almost blocked by a metal pole - it couldn’t be moved back (but luckily I have small legs). Service constantly ignored the terrace and couldn’t even remember what we had for drinks when I had to walk up to the counter to pay (and got ignored by the server there too!) We tried the blood sausage with pineapple and the Bife. Both tasted good 👍🏻 so if you can cope with bad service, don’t hesitate. Note: we originally came for the arroz de marisco, unfortunately it isn’t on the menu anymore

I don't know where the good reviews are from. Maybe other places are worse. We ordered two different steaks, one was with the regional seasoning, another was grilled. We ordered medium, it arrived completely raw. The grilled one was raw inside but somehow burnt outside. I asked without salt and it was extremely salty. But the service was quick.

I went to another "famous" steak place, and this was so much better and had much better food. The steak , sauce, fries and everything I had were absolutely amazing, the restaurant was very busy and I was by myself so I sat at the bar but they were turning groups of people away in January on a Tuesday so I feel like you should make a reservation here.

I heard about this restaurant from a friend. I circled the block a number of times and when I finally was able to find it, I spent another 10 minutes trying to find a parking spot. Got in the door around 730 or so and I couldn't tell if it was just a pick up counter or not so I asked the man behind the counter. He was speaking to another man in a reflective vest. I asked if this was the entrance to the restaurant and he said yes. So I said can I just walk in and he said, no you can't we are full. I said I tried to make reservations online but I didn't think you took them. He told me no, only by phone. No website, no mention of how to reserve. I was made to feel pretty small for the first time on my first trip to the Azores. He never said would you like to try us tomorrow or something. Just straight face and when I turned to leave he said arrogantly bye. I own several restaurants and my success is to never make the customer feel like you don't want his business. Good luck sir and i am glad you don't feel the need to please your customers. Business must be very good.

Skip the overpriced nonsense and COME HERE!!! Delicious and affordable! My friend and I were here on vacation and our guide recommended this place for dinner if we wanted to experience true Azorian food. THE BEST STEAK!!! Holy smokes it was so tender & juicy! The fries and garlic bread were also wonderful! We were full but couldn’t resist the pineapple cake.. YUM!! It is wonderful so save room, homemade goodness! Everything here was locally sourced and made with love. The staff here are very friendly and spoke English. It is a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Definitely suitable for low key dinner, groups, and families. You gotta eat here!! It’s a great price for an outstanding meal!

Best steak ever! The cook is an amazing person. Totally recommended! To everyone giving 1 star because they couldn't eat without a reservation, well that's how most restaurants work! Stop being so angry when you're on vacation and enjoy this beautiful island and it's amazing food!

Probably one of the best 🥩 steak we tried in Azores, a bit far from city center (to walk) but totally worth it! The steak melts in your mouth and french fries are as tasty as the steak. And ofc, we cannot forget the staff that were super friendly and eager to help and provide suggestions for our amazing experience. Amazing place, you have to try this if you visit the Azores.

We’ve been super lucky to get a table. Make sure to book a table in advance if you don’t fancy rolling the dice. Food was great. Lots of garlic and high quality fish and meat. The homemade chocolate tarte is must-do.

Really great beef and pork. They cook a mean garlic sauce in their regional style dishes. The waiters are very friendly and some of them speak English very well. You should make a reservation ahead of coming here, because it's very popular. Also try the blood sausage with regional pineapple - it's really good! I do not recommend the soup. It was a bit bland.
