Caldera de Taburiente National Park

Nature & Parks
Park
Caldera de Taburiente National Park is a renowned Spanish national park known for its stunning scenery. The park is located in a volcanic crater and features hiking trails, waterfalls, 2000m peaks, and Canary pine trees. Despite the challenging route that takes about 50-60 minutes to complete, visitors can explore nature by walking along the ridges of La Caldera until they reach the El Paso Visitor Centre.
There are multiple trails you can take in this national park. We took a very pleasant 3.5km circular trail around the caldera. We enjoyed the pine forest and the gorgeous views and scenery. We did have to book in advance on the official website. Recommended.

What a beautiful national park with breathtaking views along the walking route at the top parking area surrounded by the protected Canarian Pines. The drive up in our coach was a bit scary when we met another coming down as difficult to pass in the narrow road and their was lovely scenes down the valley on the way. We only did a short walk to the viewing platforms where you could see the layers of rock formation. It was very interesting to learn from our guide about the huge erosion crater and rocky layers. We found out about the dangers of forest fires and how the Canarian Pines have developed to survive them. Wear sensible comfortable shoes and a drink. The walking route has steep drops and no barriers, but the pathway is wide. It was chilly in the shade and warm in the sunshine. The visitors centre and toilets are at the bottom. You have to prebook a time slot for parking your vehicle to visit as numbers are restricted due to limited parking at the top. Very well worth a visiting if you are in the area.

Amazing park, just be careful of the decent after the waterfall. The constantly going up and down is very intensive and in our opinion harder than el réventon

Majestic sight. Hiking inside the caldera is an interesting experience.

Best views I have ever seen and I have travelled to many places before like the alps, bring warm clothing however as you can expect it to be chilly as I could see my breath. Taxis run up and down from the place aswell and they are incredibly cheap. Make sure to go BEFORE 2 as the whole views are covered by clouds however.

this caldera is one the most fascinating places I have ever seen. unbelievable vistas while taking a short (+-60 mins depending on your pace) hike. one should make a reservation to get there, although we were let drive up without having it checked.

Amazing location and definately worth a visit both in the day and the evening. The star gazing in the evening is very special, the milky way is so clear and shooting stars satellites and of course the millions of stars. There are new buildings which you can park at. Be careful driving up and down as the roads are hairpin after hairpin.

Awesome place with amazing landscape. I took the walk path to the Pico de Bejenado (PR LP 13.3) which is a quite challenging one going up all the time. Definitely worth it for one of the best view over the Caldera de Taburiente!

We visited the capital and found it a little underwhelming; however, we were drawn to the old balconies whilst passing. The seafront opposite is quite appealing, too; however, with it being volcanic, it's completely black.

Lookouts
Roque de los Muchachos is a majestic alpine summit that offers incredible panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges and the volcanic crater below. The scenic drive to the peak is breathtaking, culminating in an elevation of 2,426m, making it La Palma's highest point. There is a car park near the top with well-marked trails leading to various overlooks offering stunning views over the mountains.
Absolutely beautiful place. Worth a visit!

Must see and enjoy the views. The museum is also very informative. A bit windy 🌬️ so literally jacket and good walking shoes. **would be nice to have some picnic tables to eat.
Victoria Gamboa — Google review
It is stunning obviously. But I don’t know why they close at 7pm. When I got there after 1.40 mins of drive, it was disappointing to see you couldn’t go all the way up to the observatories. I mean, I assumed people would want to look at the stars and planets at night and so they’d be open at least until 11pm or midnight. Anyway, you’re still really high up and get to enjoy breathtaking night sky and the clouds etc. I was just under the impression from visiting some of the others E.g. in the States and Greece that observatories in or around National Parks stay open till later so people can look at the night sky closely. I should have done more research may be. It was still amazing to be there.
Astra Geo — Google review
The Peak of La Palma! You don't know where to look first... the huge crater of Taburiente, the observatories or the plain of Los Llanos. The parking situation at the top is usually difficult, but you can also walk the last few meters. From the Platform you can also see Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro on good (clear) days. All in all, a magical place where I can personally spend hours without getting bored.

To all Humans on Island, please be Safe...!!! Volcano's been erupting over Millions of years....
Mitchel P. — Google review
The drive here is stunning and takes you through some amazing scenery, but it's most impressive at the top. This is the highest point in La Palma at 2,426m elevation. When we went it wasn't cloudy further down on the island, but there was quite a bit of cloud right at the top around the viewpoint. This meant we couldn't see as far as is possible from this viewpoint, but it was actually pretty cool being up in the clouds. Definitely worth the visit.
Holly Green — Google review
Amazing view even when calima is over the island.
Marcin Frączek — Google review
Absolutely stunning place, above the clouds, out of this world.
Balázs Kecskés — Google review
Stunning, majestic, transcendent, breathtaking... an absolute must-visit of La Palma. This magical place above the clouds will reward you with a once in a lifetime experience. From here you can see the entire volcano caldera, three of the other islands in the horizon and a stunning depth of space in any direction that will leave you speechless. Ridiculously easy to access by car, with a small parking lot from which you can take a short path towards the best views, passing by impressive rock formations. If you’re in luck, a small group of friendly local ravens will let you take a picture with them in exchange for a small treat. Together with a view of the astronomical observatories nearby, this is one place you will be remembering often as one of the highlights of your travels.
Sunday Volcano — Google review
Wow, just wow. The highest point on the island gifts you these views. You *must* arrive around 8-9am, otherwise you could find yourself looking at a lot of cloud… The best views on the island, and if you’re lucky, you’ll also encounter these breathtaking sea of fog landscapes.
Liam Black — Google review
Incredible place. Definitely a must-do in La Palma
Damien Saby — Google review
Upon arrival we found there is a car park near the top. A small trail went to various viewpoints in the area which all had excellent views over the mountains. We enjoyed being above the clouds and taking pictures.

Located in the popular tourist area of Los Cancajos on the east coast of La Palma, Playa de los Cancajos is a volcanic black-sand beach that boasts stunning rock formations and abundant marine life. The bay's rocky surroundings make for calm waters, providing an ideal environment for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Visitors can also enjoy authentic Spanish and Canarian seafood cuisine at nearby restaurants after a day of relaxation on the beach.
This is a lovely beach with good facilities - toilets, showers, lockers etc. The sand is black and coarse volcanic sand. My husband and I tried snorkelling here and saw some fish. There are lots of rock pools where you can see crabs, shellfish etc.

Great beach, can’t believe it’s sandwiched between the main city and the airport. It’s really a series of small bays each with a different view, interesting rock formations and a nice combination of sunshine and shade. Although it’s on the east of the island the sun doesn’t leave the beach until at least 6pm. Great facilities including showers and restaurants/ice cream nearby, but doesn’t feel too touristy at all. Recommend a visit!
Hannah Chapman — Google review
The best beach in the island. No question. Remote yet accesible, the beach is divided in small bays so you can go to one mostly only for you. Rocks and sand, clean water and you have the pizza in the island just ahead as you leave. Can you ask for more?

Great place great staff. The food was ten out of ten. First time I had rabbit and I enjoyed it. Hospitality was second to none. They closed at 9:30 but we left at 10:45, for what we ate (steak and rabbit) it's surprisingly cheap!! 46euros...... but it taste like 100euro!!! I would return there and recommend this place. Also I would recommend to try the roasted goats cheese and the avocado salad. Very seductive food 👌

Excellent vegetarian food - we had the soup, goats cheese, wok fried vegetables. We came back for another meal and the chef prepared us the best veggie paella we ever had in our life. You expect a place so close to a tourist attraction to be a tourist trap, but it's nothing like that. Built from the very volcanic stone it sits on, and nestled between vineyards, this place is very at home in its setting. We came here exhausted and hot after trying to drag our 6-old daughter around in the midday sun. We felt slightly embarrassed sitting hot and sweaty amongst the elegantly dressed couples! We expected to be ripped off, but the food is first class and very reasonably priced. We ate the two rabbit dishes and were very impressed. Even the fried eggs our daughter had were made to look and taste delicious! Do book in advance - we were lucky to get a table.

My favourite restaurant in the world... Such a special, beautiful culinary experience. Each time I have visited, I have been in awe of the food and service. Pure quality. The cost is reflective of the quality of food. Easily the best food on the island, but probably the best food I've ever eaten. Carmen is clearly a legitimate angel.... Tatiana T, Elisa M and ma mbro who have commented below — you should be ashamed of yourselves!!! Such behaviour in this type of restaurant is beyond embarrassing, its outright disrespectful and disgusting. When you visit Enriclai you will understand why. Really just the best dining experience you could hope for. Muchas gracias

People who complain here about no menus or prices are completely missing the point. Carmen is a joy. A truly lovely lady with a big heart. Her son the chef is very good. The food ingredients are of high quality. The presentation is very simple. What’s not to love? Our bill came to just under €100 for two but that was for 3 courses (inc red tuna) plus beers, wine, water, coffee. How is that over the top? Good quality food costs money. Give this place a go. It’s a lovely experience.

Literally some of the best food I’ve ever had. The place is extremely cool being built out of and old wine cellar in the side of a mountain with a bar and restaurant. Staff were so welcoming and gave us some goodbye shots. Would highly recommend, only open for lunch though so don’t miss out!

An extraordinary bodega and restaurant built INTO a rock. This creates a great, rustic atmosphere like being in a cave. The wines and food are very tasty and justify the prices. The waitresses are very attentive. However, there are also some points for improvement: The opening hours from 12 to 5 p.m. are not perfect - how cool would it be to have dinner here. At some seats you are exposed to an extremely strong humming noise, which quickly becomes very unpleasant. In addition, the use of the microwave should be reduced. Then this will be one of the best restaurants on the island!

Great guachinche, a typical Canarian food restaurant where traditionally home made wine was served with hearty food, in a very nice, lushly vegetated venue with little dinners. I really loved the restaurant itself: there are many individual rooms (in fact hauses) so you have absolut privacy. We went there in end of February, so it was a bit cold there: definitely recommend having warm clothes. Waiter was nice, but can't speak English well (as usual here). Grilled meat was quite ok, not bad, not fabulous, we enjoined it. Worth trying. During weekend it's full (as we were informed) but we went in the middle of the week and it was quite empty. There is a small park place in front of the restaurant.

A must visit/see when on the island. I bet you won’t starve being a veggie but the specialties are from the grill. My parents and I were lucky to have been hosted by our dear friends Marie-José and Juan and we experienced a full blown course of a chipi chipi dinner. Fine dining at its best. Octopus with purple potato was super tasty. We normally eat our salad along the main course so we asked to have it served together. We drank wine by a glass and the red was great. A teenager with a need for proteins ordered double chicken nuggets and couldn't eat everything. If you want to get fed when eating, don't take ravioli. The portion of 4, even 6 is laughable, unless you eat as a little bird. Service was extremely friendly and all spoke English. Great service and atmosphere - clearly a spot loved by many a local! We enjoyed their potatoes with rabbit a lot, this was great. Their tartar was also excellent. However, they were out of slow cooked pork when we arrived (@8pm) and so suggested we try their beef instead. This was VERY dry and we pretty much left this dish untouched. As feedback to the chef, if you made it less dry the dish itself came together well. But when we ate it last night (21/12/23) it was truly very very dry and practically inedible, hence the slightly lower rating on the food. Pictured in my review is the beef itself which as you can see is presented very nicely. Also I must admit we chose wine by the glass as we drove here, and the options were limited to two wines both of which were bad. If you like full bodied wine, you won’t find it by the glass here

Overhyped and overrated. The fish dish was served cold to us, another dish (the aubergine fries) was soaked in oil and not tasty at all. I usually don't write bad reviews, but considering how good other restaurants in the Island are and that one of the best restaurants I have ever been to this year is literally less than a km down the road, I can't understand all the hype about this one.

It is truly the best restaurant on the island. Full stop.

Very good food, professional although not very friendly staff in a somewhat tight but cozy venue. The highlight is undoubtedly the food, which was outstanding. The service was good, and while not friendly, were efficient. The food did take a little while to be served, but was well worth the wait. Booking is a must, since it's very popular and the interior is not very big. I would say it's a must if you are anywhere on the island.

We had a nice time here with some exquisite food. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available and tasty too. Just tell the staff and they can do some custom adjustments just for you. Hygienic concept is in place and followed by orderly. Prices are affordable, maybe just a bit more pricey. You should do an reservation to be sure to get a place here.

Very very nice place, friendly service, classy atmosphere. I would give 5* to the sharing menu- tuna tartar made us think to come back :)) Main dishes are good, a solid 4*. Dessert are ok, nice, but can’t say more ;) Try caramelized octopus and tuna tartar 😎 P.s. my tuna teriyaki was oversalted, but I chose not to react on that 😊

I was so excited to try this place after seeing the reviews. The venue is very cool, and the food was good, but the attitude of the waiters ruined our time. We had 2 waiters - a first one that spoke Spanish and a second one that spoke English. The first one made us feel unwelcome and it felt like he mocked us for not speeking Spanish. The second waiter was nice, and somewhat made up for the experience. I honestly wanted to leave and go to the restaurant next door. The food was good, but not good enough to make up for the service.

Fine Dining - expensive and exquisite. But the they put you in a cold cellar where there is a draft: Good, when it is outside to hot but bad when it ist not.
