The Wochenmarkt Münster - Interessengemeinschaft der Marktbeschicker Münster Westf. is a lively open-air market, held twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The market offers an array of fresh produce, including meats, seafood, bread, and pastries. There are also cut flowers and plants for sale. Visitors are advised to arrive early to avoid crowds as the market gets busy after 10am.
A big weekly market with the background of classical beautiful Münster cathedral. Large varieties of fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, flower, food and beverage kiosks. The weekly market available on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Delicious choices of food and beverage. Lovely atmosphere to be explored.

Drove in for 9am to beat some of the crowds. Had to wait 5mins for a parking space right next to the market but more parking is available a short distance away.
Well worth a visit, so much fresh food - fish, meats, bread and pastries as well as plants (both cut flowers and growing ones!)
It got a lot busier after 10am so arrive early if you can. The rest of Munster was also great to have a stroll around

It's quite expensive. Produce is fresh depending on which vendor you go to. They start early in the morning and wrap up mostly by 12:00/13:00 hrs.
They mostly only accept cash.

Almost each and every products were very expensive for obvious reasons as those were being sold by the growners directly but still the atmosphere was enchanting and the Kibbling (fish-fritters) was very delicious .

The biweekly farmers market of Münster is the perfect opportunity to get fresh and often local produce to prices, if you chose the right place to buy, that put supermarkets to shame. There is a wide variety of everything from the simple to the exotic. Add to that the many foodstalls that carter to almost any taste and you have a perfect example of what a market should be.

Of course you can buy a little cheaper at supermarket or discounters, however the variety, freshness and friendliness of merchants makes it worth to become a regular visitor.

Aasee lake is a popular recreational spot in Munster, offering various activities like boat rentals, walking paths, picnic areas, restaurants and even a zoo & sculpture. It's an ideal place to relax and unwind amidst nature's beauty. The best time to visit is during the evening when the sun sets in the west and gives the area a reddish hue which looks amazing! Visitors can also enjoy boating on the tranquil lake waters.

Hardly ten minutes on foot from Prinzipalmarkt, Aasee is a 40-hectare man-made lake beginning on cusp of the old town and continuing southwest for over two kilometres.
The lakefront is cushioned by a broad band of inviting parkland, laid with lawns, trees and public art, and travelled by cyclists, joggers and strolling families.
There are restaurants and cafes at regular intervals and a raised terrace in the modern complex on the north shore, where you can also hire a pedal boat for self-navigated trip around the lake.
At this spot you’ll find the jetty for SOLAARIS, a solar-powered boat that ferries people from the city centre to the Allwetterzoo on the west shore.

St.-Paulus-Dom is a Romanesque cathedral dating back to the 1200s. The Gothic-style church spans an impressive 108 meters and features intricate details both inside and out. Notably, the cathedral boasts a unique astronomical clock that runs counterclockwise, which is an impressive attraction worth seeing. Additionally, St.-Paulus-Dom houses three organs for music enthusiasts to enjoy.

Incredible cathedral. It was damaged during the war and throughout the years. I like how it displays pictures of how it was look like with the damages and how it was restored and rebuilt to today’s shape. Inside the cathedral there are many chapels of which each of them shows different design and decorations. The most beautiful and impressive thing inside the church is the astronomical clock. It’s kept the original form and calendar which was built in 1600’s. It’s amazing to see how complicated the mechanical system was back then.

The only downside is that all the church wealth is inside and people are in the cold and outside begging for food. Maybe cater more to the people around the church than the visitors.

Botanical Garden of the Westphalian Wilhelm University of Münster
The Botanical Garden of the Westphalian Wilhelm University of Münster is a centuries-old landscaped garden that boasts an Alpine area, cottage garden, arboretum and glasshouses. The garden is meticulously planned and well-organized in line with German traditions. Each plant in the garden is named and has information written next to it. The botanical garden is highly recommended for both old and young visitors who can enjoy reading a book or admiring the stunning views.
Absolutely stunning 😍, awesome place. Good for old and young. Very well structured, organised in best German traditions. Almost every plant is named and information is written next to it. 👍Popular place which I recommend better to visit on the weekdays (it could be overcrowded on the weekends), however you can find the silent place only for you to read a book or enjoy the view.

Beautiful room where peace was signed in 1648 after 80 years of struggle against the Spanish yoke. I had imagined the room bigger. Must have been quite cramped with 150 people in that room. Nice to have been and luckily they saved all the original woodwork before the war.

On the east side of Prinzipalmarkt, the Historical City Hall is another symbol for Münster and one of the finest examples of secular Gothic architecture anywhere.
The facade is jaw-dropping, and requires a few minutes for its tiers of traceried windows, ogival arches, gables and pinnacles.
This all dates from the end of the 14th century, and reflects the confidence that Münster’s citizens had in their episcopal landowners.
The Peace Hall inside is as old as the 1100s and is clad with wooden panels carved in 1577. The hall was where one of European history’s most important treaties was signed.
In 1648 the Peace of Westphalia brought an end to the Thirty Years’ War and gave birth to the Netherlands as a nation after it broke from the Holy Roman Empire.

Allwetterzoo Münster is a spacious zoo showcasing an African habitat for zebras and elephants, in addition to offering animal petting and penguin feeding. The exhibit is larger than the local Brooklyn zoo and features impressive spaces for animals. Ongoing construction suggests that the facilities will continue to expand, making it deserving of support for its good work.
Beautiful environment categorized and signboards to guid towards the location of animals you might be interested and also indoor and outdoor view available for animals if you couldn't catch them outside you'll find them hanging around inside, beside there is zoo shop where you can buy t shirts jewelry, toys.. and some burger and ice cream inside the zoo.

We had a brilliant day visiting here! The zoo is clean and tidy. The animals are well looked after and cared for. The staff are super friendly. There's lots of things to see and do. Lots of amazing playparks scattered around the park. We were able to feed the elephants - free of charge! And also the little parakeets. They have a few walk in enclosures, goats and lemurs. The whole day was fantastic! I would highly recommend visiting here! Children of all ages and adults would have a great time!

Most of the animals seemed really healthy and most enclosures were well kept. Some of the animals were a bit tricky to spot and we found ourselves searching to no avail. A better viewing location could be of use there.
I found the prices to be a bit high, but havent visited a zoo since Covid, so things might be different now.
Other than than the park was clean and suited for people with buggy s or wheelchairs. Had a nice day!

Considering the 4 star ratings I viewed here, I visited Allwetter zoo on August. The tickets charged was high because it didn't reach the expectations. They should keep location marker or provide with a map so that people don't miss any aspects and it guides more efficiently in navigating. Area is very big. Poorly maintained. Animals looked starved, unenergetic, gloomy.
Good thing, even if animals looked unhealthy, we were able to see some lions, tiger, elefant, giraffes, zebras, pandas, which seem to be rare visuals here.
Some reptiles weren't available to view or removed but placards were still posted.
Overall, it's okay to visit but dont keep high expectations.

This winter in the early but dark hours of the evening you can visit the zoo - not to watch animals - of those you could only really see pelicans, but to watch great light installations, dipped into an eerie fog.
It was a great experience and took about an hour - with all the photographing and stuff 😉
Obviously you can get food and drinks, cold and hot, at about 7 way points.
If you are in the area, I can recommend the visit, but I wouldn't drive that far, unless you REALLY like light 😅

I have mixed feelings with this Zoo. On the one hand the animals look physically healthy (maybe not mentally). However my biggest concern is the VERY SMALL space assigned even for Big animals like Rhinos, Elephants, Felines. You can see sadness in their eyes!
Iván — Google review
I really liked this zoo. The parking lot is very big so there's enough space to park your car. Another benefit are the parking- and entrance fee which aren't very high.
The zoo is quiet big and offers hours of fun! They are building something near the entrance which will be done in 2022. I'm very curious and will definitely visit the zoo once this is done.
There are various species of animals in this zoo and especially quiet a few different species of big cats. I love big cats which makes this zoo amazing! Most animals do have a good amount of space, but not all of them. For example the lions. Their habitat isn't the size it should be.
And I think that some animals habitats are a bit doll.
This zoo is also great if you have children. There are a lot of playgrounds where your children can play. There are also enough toilets throughout the whole zoo and a lot of different points where you can buy some food.
I had a great time in this zoo and that is why I would recommend it to others.

Great experience, totally worth the price. Loved how curious are orangutans. Take at least three full hours to go through it at fast pace. It has a lot more animals than what I expected. One can see they care about the animals for they put a lot of toys and activities for them. Crazy how some gorillas look like actual people. Would highly recommend!

This zoo is a lot bigger than I expected from the way that some of the locals had talked about it prior to my showing up. Based on the number of big animals here, this exhibit is larger than my local Brooklyn zoo.
I got to witness the majestic elephants eating in a moment that words cannot do justice. I was highly impressed with the spaces for the animals. I didn't even check out the souvenir spot as I was too tired after spending hours here and they have some major construction going on so I'm guessing that the spaces shall be expanding. The good work being done here deserves support!

Westphalian State Museum of Art & Cultural History
The Westphalian State Museum of Art & Cultural History is a museum displaying artwork from the early medieval period up to contemporary times. The museum has an added courtyard entrance and foyer, which was carefully designed by Staab Architects and incorporates a sculptural feel. The historical building itself is impressive, particularly the main stair. The collection includes both old and contemporary pieces, such as those from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Located in Munster, it's easy to navigate chronologically through the exhibits.

The LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur unites 1000 years of art, ranging from the early Middle Ages through to the present. In total the LWL-Museum’s collection comprises over 350 000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and prints, coins and objects as well as 135 000 books. About 1300 exhibits are on view in the new presentation of the collection.
While exploring the 51 exhibition spaces, visitors encounter works of art by Heinrich Brabender, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Franz Marc, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, August Macke, Otto Piene, Gerhard Richter and Rosemarie Trockel, amongst many others.
The museum’s roots lead back to the early 19th century: in 1825 the Verein für Geschichte und Altertumskunde Westfalens (Historical and Archaeological Society of Westphalia) began
establishing a museum collection and concurrently, from 1836 onwards, the Westfälischer Kunstverein began running an art museum. The two collections were merged in 1908 as the new Landesmuseum für die Provinz Westfalen (Regional Museum for the Province of Westphalia).

Bad experience and customer service. I was carrying a small purse and the security was rude and refused to let me in unless I leave my purse in a small flimsy locker. This is an extraordinary museum - a must see! The architecture of the building itself is something you might see in a capital city; the collection curation like theatre; and the objects are both local and beautiful. All explained in German and English as standard.

Fantastic museum and worth the entry price of €9. The front desk staff were welcoming and the female staff in the museum rooms were exceptionally helpful and approachable with one exception, an older man who was both rude and verbally aggressive but don’t let him stop you from going. The collections are well documented and translated into three languages, English been one of them.
It is a big museum but your entry ticket means you can come and go throughout the day. Backpacks are not allowed and can be put into lockers and cost €1 that you get back. The toilets are clean and there are seats in every room so when tired you can rest and take in the items on view in your own time. There are ramps and lifts and plenty of room to navigate if you are in a wheelchair however, not many of the works on view are at wheelchair eye view. Photographs are allowed as long as you don’t use a flash.
The gift shop is expensive which is a shame as I would have loved to buy small gifts to give to people at home and the postcards didn’t seem to reflect what was in the museum unless I missed a whole section.
In a nutshell - this is a must see museum with the added bonus that your ticket last for the whole day so you can come and go as you please.

St. Lamberti, a famous Catholic church, is distinguished by its Gothic spire that features three iron cages suspended above the clock. The stunning architecture of this church is beautiful both inside and out. In terms of aesthetics, it surpasses even the dome in its grandeur and magnificence.
What do you think about this gothic cathedral? Pretty cool, right? Well, it is famous for a whole another reason.
There are three iron cages hanging from the church tower
*have a look at the second picture to understand what I am talking about* ⬅️
In 1536 these were used to expose the corpses of Jan van Leiden, Bernhard Krechting and Bernhard Knipperdolling after they were publicly tortured and killed in the Prinzipalmarkt for leading the Münster Rebellion.😮
The remains of their bodies were placed in the three cages for 50 years as a warning to others.

Attention all history buffs and ghost hunters: St. Lamberti is the place for you! This medieval church has got it all - creepy crypts, spooky stories, and even a tower with some grisly history (I won't spoil the surprise, but let's just say it involves some unfortunate rebels and a not-so-happy ending). But don't let the eerie vibes scare you off - the beautiful stained glass windows and intricate stonework are worth the risk of encountering a ghostly apparition. Just be sure to bring a flashlight and maybe some holy water, just in case 🤭

Divine!
A shining example of Late Gothic design, the Church of St. Lamberti was built through the 14th and 15th centuries and forms the northern boundary of the Prinzipalmarkt.
All eyes will be on the tower, not least for the hollow tracery on the spire but also for the grim sight of the iron cages above the clock.
These are from the 1530s and once held the remains of the leaders of Münster’s Anabaptist rebellion during the Reformation.
The tower also has a night watchman, a tradition that goes back more than 630 years.
At the moment this role is filled by Martje Saljé, the first female “watchman” in the building’s history.
Every weekday evening apart from Tuesday she marks the stroke of the half hour and hour between 21:00 and 00:00 with a blast from a copper horn.

The best highlight of the trip ! St. Lamberti Kirche and Prinzipal Markt ; Such beautiful piece of Architecture. Must visit ! Main city center and feels so peaceful to be in the Church !
The Art Museum Pablo Picasso is situated in a charming 18th-century building and offers an extensive collection of Picasso prints, along with temporary exhibitions. Visitors can also explore the life and works of Miro. The location is cozy and artsy, set in the beautiful city of Munster. Admission for adults costs 12 euros, with an option to take an audioguide. However, some visitors may find that the museum has limited information about Pablo Picasso compared to their expectations.
Nice place to visit. Tickets for adults 12€. You can take audioguide if you want.
Katarzyna D?browska — Google review
It's okay. The tickets + guided Tour was 17 euros. To me it is a little bit overpriced for the size of the museum. All the exhibition and the guide tours are in German, neither in Spanish or English so it is complicated for visitors from abroad to understand.

Really enjoyed our time in the museum lots to read and to see, take your time to absorb

A decent insight into the artist. Well worth a visit.

Art Museum Pablo Picasso has a large collection of Picasso prints, more than any other museum. Beautiful building, friendly staff. If you don’t speak German, I recommend taking advantage of the free audio guide since none of the didactics are translated in English (my reason for rating this fine museum with 4 stars and not 5). We visited Münster on over the New Year’s holiday, so the coffee shop was closed, too bad.
Suzanne Durkacs — Google review
I had paid similar prices or even less for much more better art museums. I didn't expect a huge exposition due to the dimensions of the building and the city, but still I think it is way too expensive for what it is offer. On the other hand, I think it is a nice and enjoyable culture experience for kids with a free guide. So I would recommend it for children, but not really for adults. The Caffe of the museum is as well too expensive but the waitress who attended us was really really kind.

An intimate insight into the life and art works of Picasso and Miro . Cosy artsy location in beautiful Münster

Nice, but my expectations were higher. Very little about Pablo Picasso.
Giovanni De Maio Langella — Google review
Expensive for that size of museum and not really Picasso museum with just two salons of his works

Very good small exhibition
Sabrina Kambach — Google review
Low score is mostly due to language. English audio guide very difficult to follow and figure out location within museum and was not a translation of what was written on walls.
kathleen wiersch — Google review
Don’t let the name of the museum trick you. For 12 euros, you only get to see some sketches by Picasso, which make up about 5% of the whole exhibition. The remaining 95% are just works by other contemporary painters.
Anastasiia Korzhylova — Google review
There are two floors, not too many paintings, but you can get a small headset to listen to the explanation in different languages(I got an English one), student ticket is 10 euros
Kammuri Vi — Google review
Dont go!!! There is no any piece belongs to Picasso right now (because of another exhibition) and other pieces (sophia calle) were most boring experience I had so far. Also, there is no any language support, big disrespectfulness.
Funda Aydın — Google review
Nice but not so much Picasso works where present. Also a bit smaller than expected.
Tibart Visser — Google review
Amazing. Had multiple picasso art pie es and various other art as well as old states and carvings. The restaurant attached was awesome as well with a very sweet waitress.

Small museum with expression movie posters and photography. €10 pro person is too expensive for 30-45minutes.
The Freilichtmuseum Mühlenhof in Münster is a sprawling open-air museum spanning five hectares, dedicated to showcasing the rural and artisan culture of the region over four centuries. It features approximately 30 half-timbered buildings dating back to the 17th-19th century that have either been relocated or reconstructed based on old models. Visitors can explore historical interiors and furniture collections that offer insights into how people lived and worked in this area.
It was a perfect place to revisit ancient history. We visited on Saturday, and the entry was free. There are no tickets for Saturday.

Very nice open air Museum, good maintaining and natural resources! My child really enjoyed this place especially feeding the farm animals.

A very well-preserved place with so many antiquities and other stuffs . The atmosphere is also enchanting . But some of the huts and the accessories inside need well-maintenance .

The Mühlenhof open-air museum in Münster covers five hectares in the Sentrup district in the immediate vicinity of Aasee, the all-weather zoo and the LWL-Museum für Naturkunde, displaying the rural and artisan culture of the region for four centuries. Around 30 historic buildings were either moved from their original location to the Münster museum in Westphalia or rebuilt there based on old models. The interior furniture with historical collection gives an impression of the way of life and working methods of the people who were once at home here.
Excellent place to enjoy with your family.

A nice museum where you can see how people lived during the 18th - 19th century. It is interesting and has lots of different places to visit including a shoe shop, a school classroom and blacksmiths'. For €6 this is reasonably priced and they also have a nice café.

i highly recommend it for those who love nature and village life, suddenly you are in a rural area, and peace comes to you!
Also you get insight into the live of villagers of a couple of centuries ago

Interesting museum of preserved old buildings from the Münster area, from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Takes about an hour or two to see it all.
A Wonderful Experience through German Cuisine. Unique and attentive and fast service. We love it!

After many years we came back to Münster on the Christmas days for the market. We loved it. We found different kind of stores with much more variety than in other markets the last years. Since chocolate covered fruit, sweet appels, iomy mushrooms, hot chocolate, the typical warm wine to hand mady heats, ponchos, leggings, gloves, scarfs, but also decoration, illumination, candles, soap, carpets for the chimneys, etc. You can easily walk from one market to another without long distance. We will definitely go back the coming years.

Bediening was snel. Zo snel dat je het idee kreeg dat je op moest schieten. Eten was redelijk, maar de apfelstüdel was niet vers maar opgepiept.

Great outdoor restaurant with traditional German dishes. They do speak English if you are visiting. I highly recommend the potato soup and bratwurst!

Menu zag er goed uit maar het eten viel zeer tegen. Currywurst waren harde worsten met rode saus zonder currysmaak. Friet was niet goed doorbakken. Cola was lauw zonder prik. Ga hier niet eten.

Originally constructed as a residence for a nobleman, Schloss Münster has been repurposed and currently serves as a university building. While not many exhibits are available for visitors to learn about its history, the building itself and its surroundings are picturesque. The Promenade is particularly charming and is among the most popular walking areas in Munster. The facade of the castle is strikingly beautiful, making it an excellent location for outdoor events such as open-air cinemas.
Just a pretty view.
Free activity to just look at the castle, but don’t expect to look at the old things inside the castle. Nowadays is just a beautiful university.
The only activity you can do here is walking through the beautiful botanical garden behind it
Cande M — Google review
The facade is certainly beautiful, great for the population of the city that an open-air cinema has been organized with a suggestive background, but as a passing tourist when I saw all those chairs I was disappointed.

Beautifull Building. I wondered upon looking at it about the people who made it and how did they do it and whether using the tools, technology of today, could be make something like this or better!
Kishan Pandey — Google review
Beautiful castle with a lovely little botanical garden behind it. Sadly, it was difficult to get a good view of the castle because of several party tents and a construction lot in front of it - seems like a waste of the area's potential when there was a huge empty parking lot next to it they could have used instead..
Jacob Wischmann — Google review
Very nice reconstructed palace.
It's closed the weekend.
It's a nice way to start or to finish the city visit if you park on the close by parking. I recommend to visit at the same time the botanical garden.

Schloss Münster is now home to the local University. For this reason, there are not many objects to visit there (to find out something about its history, you need to go to the 'Stadtmuseum'). Nevertheless, the building itself as well as the surroundings are very nice. The Promenade, for example, is one of the most popular walking areas in Münster. It's definitely worth spending some time there during the weekend.
Protected area of ponds & reed beds with an observation tower for spotting migratory birds.
Good space to take a toilet break, check a small museum with taxidermy birds and learn which birds to expect in the Rieselfelder.

Superb. The sound of the birds 🐦, mesmerises anyone and everyone. Had a long walk around the sanctuary and the greenery gives lot of joy and energy.
When we were there the viewing tower was closed due to Corona still we enjoyed the time there.
Good choice to be with a bicycle which helps to cover most of the place.
Good place to go with kid, family and friends...
Please keep sufficient water and snack as there is no cafe nearby.

(Translated by Google) Larger reservoirs and wet meadows, orchards, wet fallow land and trees make up this part of the reserve. There are several observation huts and a replica of a historic sewage worker's house here. A 12 m high observation tower offers a variety of insights and views into the different habitats. There is also a network of several circular hiking trails with additional observation opportunities. On about 2 km² there are mainly water and mud areas, reedbeds and smaller wet grassland sections. The original layout of the sewage fields can still be seen here in many ways; the polders measuring around 100 m × 100 m in size have largely been preserved here. However, many have now been combined into larger area complexes in order to provide more peace and quiet, especially for migrating birds.

One of the best nature locations around Münster. Takes 20-40 minutes with bicycles to get there. From May to September you can see many birds but also during the winter it is a very relaxing place to visit.

Clemenskirche, also known as the Church of St. Clements, is located in the historic Salzstrasse, Munster's oldest mercantile street. This baroque masterpiece was built between 1745 and 1753 by Johann Conrad Schlaun for the Brothers of Mercy. Although the monastery was dissolved in 1811, the church remains a stunning example of Westphalian architecture.
Little gem in the city center.
Just spend 3 minutes to go inside and enjoy the paintings.
Also destroyed during the war and reconstructed.
Free entrance.
