The Montagne de Bueren is a renowned landmark in Liege, Belgium. This notable structure consists of a lengthy stone staircase that ascends the hill at the center of the old town. It offers stunning panoramic views of the city, including its palaces and citadel slope. The climb up this steep flight of stairs may be daunting, but reaching the top is undoubtedly worthwhile. Postcards often feature this iconic sight, making it one of Liege's most famous attractions.
Many, many, many steps lead to fantastic views. You will see a bench at the top where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the entire city. If you continue to the right you can get even a slightly more improved version. Totally worth. And honestly, much easier than I expected. We didn’t even need to stop for breaks. And yes, many, many, many tourists even after dark. And it’s totally free!

Take some time to climb the 374 steps of these stairs going a monument and the Citadel on top. When it's warm in summer that can be a challenge but once on top you get a nice view over the city and the river below
The stairs were made between 1875 and 1880 to remember the 600 men from the small town of Franchimont who died during a surprise attack on the armies of Duke Charles the Bold and King Louis XI during the siege of Liège in 1468.

A cool stop for 15 minutes of exercise after driving in the car for two hours. I suppose we could have done it twice (or thrice) but I was in street clothes and the sweat was starting to arrive after one walk up under the blasting sun.

Great view point of the city from the top.
Nice climb up, not without any effort.
I loved using the handrails as slide

Fun and unusual place!! I'm reading mixed messages of the city here. Yea it's not really a beautiful city at the moment, while it has so much potential.
The infrastructure s*cks, the surrounding facilities and lack thereof show carelessness, and I hope the municipality gov will acknowledge the potential and go on a beautifying streak of all districts, not just the absolute centre!
Set an example for Wallonia. This can be done without too high costs. I think they're starting it at some places, just not enough to uplift the sense of faltering development, a heart without purpose.
The problem is the foundation and vision of the city, its relationship with traffic and concrete over nature and locals, and that has to be tackled, which is talk for another day...
The stairs structure however is really cool. Every city with hills should consider having similar ones, it's a place of fun, happiness, chitchat and reflection.
Clearly there's something magical about stairs going down and up to such an extent, you don't even have to believe in heaven. Everyone had smiles on their faces.

The stairs are one of the locations you have to visit in Liege not only for the physical activity of climbing them but also for the amazing reward you will get after reaching the top. After climbing , an outstanding view of the whole city opens and you can spend 10 minutes or more just admiring the beautiful city. A quick tip is to begin your journey with these stairs because after them , you will feel a little tired :) .

A nice workout walking up the stairs. Be sure to take breaks, turn around, and admire the view that gets better with each step. There are really neat doors to check out on the walk up. There’s a railing the entire length of the steps. The view from the top is good, but there are two even better viewpoints up by the WWI Memorial. Just take a right at the top of the steps and it’s only a couple extra minutes. We’ll worth it for the views of Liège.

What else is there to say other then: visit these stairs. Your condition and heart rate will be thankful of the exercise, you will be ashamed of your lack of training.
It really is a beautiful set of stairs, never thought I’d say those words but I can’t deny it. The view over Liège is nice, but I do think the steps are worth the visit in their own right.

Nice climb. It will take approximately 10 - 15 minutes to climbe the up. And nice view from the top. You can see the whole city. Also there is an observation point near by. No tickets needed.

Beautiful view to the city, absolutely must do when in Liege. Also climb to the monument that is a bit further after the stairs.

Quite a steep hike up the stairs but a stunning view of the city from up top. Highly recommend the walk up for every city visitor!

This may seem donating but it is not that bad if you walk daily. If you do not exercise or walk much this could be hard but not impossible. Great view at the top and perfect way to burn off the waffles. Lol

The place is situated in the city center ofcourse and it is very close to main market.
There were 300+ stairs and the view at the top was breathtaking.
Would definitely recommend to go there solo as well as in groups.

Only attraction in Liege 😂 which was actually nicee as it has a history behind it, looks good enough for you to take picture with if you want, and even has nice view from the top!! Kinda perfect actually cuz it’s not even much crowded. This attraction is enough to gank the whole tourisms of Liege 😂 sad we don’t manage to find any souvenir of the stairs 😭

Probably one of the must do's of Liège.
The views from the top are pretty and worth the climb.
However, be mindful of the people that live there. Enjoy the experience and the city, but be also respectful with the people that lives there and that uses them as their daily path to go back home, to go to work...
Pablo Reclusa — Google review
Montagne de Bueren has a ton of stairs 😣, but it was an incredible adventure climbing them and getting to the top (just to realize there's another monument and more stairs further up, lol). Not going to lie, there were a few moments in which I was winded. The views are great and there are so many people taking the climb on! At the top, there was a sweet cat visiting everyone who had made it.

It takes 374 steps to get to the top but then you have a nice view of the city. You do need to be quite fit however the handrail is quite sturdy and you can of course take breaks
R C — Google review
If you are fit then take these stairs around 374 to reach on top to see the view, there is just one bench on the top to rest.
It’s good if you can reach on top then this js the good test go check your fitness :)
The Citadelle is a hill in the city of Liege, Belgium that overlooks the town and the surrounding countryside. The views from the citadel are particularly impressive during sunrise and sunset.
Incontournable à Liège.
Highly recommended to visitors, photographers and locals who want a contrasting area, so near from the city but giving a really different feeling.
The area is wider than the google maps pin point 📍

This hilly area of the Citadel of Liege is hard work to get to, but you'll be rewarded with excellent views of the city below. The views from the top of Montagne de Bueren
are excellent, but if you go further along to Belvédère Liège, the views are even clearer and better.
There isn't much to see of the citadel and it's mostly ruins. You can still walk around and see a lot of what remains as much of it is still standing. The area has paved walking paths and is a pleasant area for a stroll.

Wen you do a tour up there you'll not miss the stairs.

There are 4 way marked walking routes which are categorized and 3 star in Michelin guide! Our walk started at Degrés des dentellières (the street of Lacemakers who lived just beside the townhall, and of such importance was their art). A rather unsuspecting entrance on Rue Pierreuse leads to some stairs which lead to a brick building in ruins. Yes, that was a part of the citadel. A few more stairs from here leads to the Terraces!

The Liège-Guillemins railway station is a contemporary transportation hub and modern concourse, created by the renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. The station features an impressive vaulted roof made of steel and glass, showcasing a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. It has become a prominent attraction in Liege, serving as the starting point for many travelers exploring the city.
Well maintained train station with a colourful, huge roof that you would not stop looking at. The staff at the station office is very very friendly and helpful. We missed our train due to the delay of another train. The lady booked us another train route for the next day along with our to and from ticket to Leuven. Very much satisfied with the services provided.

The station platform elevators and escalators were both out of order. Many strollers and passengers carrying large luggage had to carry them by themselves, which was very inconvenient. And without any obvious notices or alternative measures, there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Beautiful building unfortunately it's form over function. There is no cover for wind and very little seated waiting space.
Also the people around the station are quite dodgy

Beautiful station, but kind of overrated. A pretty long queue at the ticket machines (the ones that worked).
A very pleasant interior design. A not as amazing exterior, probably due to the white paint becoming dirty over time.
Worth a visit if you're nearby, but not worth the travel solely to see it.
Overall, recommended.

Fabulous design, have been through here a few times on my way to Bruxelles, Kortrijk and south to the Ardennes.
Nice shops on the bottom floor, 3 coffee shops, but missing a General store for travellers.
Has a mezzanine level that is completely derelict, pity, would have been a great addition to the railway station and added something to it's usefulness.

AVOID long waits at night.
It's full of homeless people. Everything is closed, dark, kinda scary for a MODERN train station.
It is completely open; so it's cold everywhere.
If you arrive late or need to have a long wait, there's a savior place close called TGV taverne (open 24hours)

The Gothic cathedral of Saint Paul in Liege, Belgium is a beautiful and historic building. The cathedral dates back to the 1445 and features ornate stained glass windows, a cloister, and impressive Gothic architecture. It is also known for its mason blue limestone which gives it a distinctive look.

Liège Cathedral, otherwise St. Paul's Cathedral, Liège, in Liège, Belgium, is part of the religious heritage of Liège.
Founded in the 10th century, it was rebuilt from the 13th to the 15th century and restored in the mid-19th century.
It became a Catholic cathedral in the 19th century due to the destruction of Saint Lambert's Cathedral in 1795.
It is the seat of the Diocese of Liège.

We obviously went for the statue of Lucifer, which was devastatingly beautiful. We couldn't stop looking at it and with every detail it kept getting more fascinating. The rest of the church is very beautiful, big colourful windows, but there's a part (the treasurer) which I assume you need to pay a ticket for, and it doesn't look interesting at all. I think if you just go to the church it's good, and it wouldn't take you more than 30 mins. I wish they had little statues of Lucifer or something you could take home other than the postcard (the picture in which is not that good quality either)

Liège Cathedral, also known as St. Paul's Cathedral, is a church with a history dating back to the 10th century. Although the current building only dates back to the 13th century. Like many cathedrals dating from this period, the church is a nice example of Gothic architecture. Some of the most outstanding features of the building include the highly ornate altarpiece of the abbey chapel, the classical Greek inspired Baroque sculpture of St John the Baptist, the ribbed vault of the nave, with its golden ribs and its vaults coated and painted with rinceaux common to French Gothic styles. The cathedral also has the usual collection of beautiful stained glass windows, some which have very contemporary designs that complement the more traditional ones.
A very unusual feature of the cathedral is the pulpit. There’s a sculpture of Lucifer at the back of the pulpit.
Sadly, the cathedral is currently undergoing renovation, so much of the facade is hidden under scaffolding. The church is still a must visit in Liege.

At the Brasserie C in Liège, you'll enjoy a copious and varied buffet on Sundays each with a historic location. The terrace is a haven of peace away from the city's bustling energy, and the different beers on offer are brewed right under your feet. We've heard much good about the risotto with gorgonzola, lemon curd and kiwi fruit from the chef - one of our regulars, by the way!
We tested the beers there in January 2023 and that was fun. Three beers each, which were all fairly different and good. Nice experience.

Brasserie C was still closed when we arrived and because it’s hidden in a narrow alley we thought that might be a place only insiders know about. Ok, we were wrong. The whole place was crowded within minutes. I would say that happened for good reason: good Belgian beer and food, nice service and a location with medieval flair because the restaurant is located in an ancient nunnery. It’s really worth going there! Try it

Le Grand Curtius Museum is a historical mansion-turned-museum in Liege, Belgium. It houses a vast collection of native and global artifacts, including decorative and religious art. Perhaps this may be a signal to the museum. If someone from it reads )) my average mark for the Weapons part is simply because it lacks explanations. Yes, they are very detailed texts in French, somewhat also detailed in English - but you will not understand 90% if you are not familiar with the special vocabulary of the Arms industry, unless you are a NATIVE speaker with engineering background).
Nowadays, when Tablets under Android are so cheap, why not put something interactive on them - a video is better than a thousand words. Especially when you have a University in town, students should be happy to create something at low cost.

The Curtius Museum is a little like a local history museum with a collection worthy of a national museum. The glass collection is very special with some beautiful examples of St. Lambert and Art Nouveau glassworks. The collection of Napoleonic era clocks, the wood and stone religious sculptures are also worth a long visit. It's a pity there's very little English in the description of the exhibits. It was perfect for taking pictures as everything was white and the lighting was perfect from all angles. It is a completely renovated pool, although you could only go into the children's pool. There were some permanent expos we didn't see, these are bigger allegedly.
I would recommend this place for a short trip. I wouldn't specifically recommend this for families. The temporary expo I would recommend for photography.

Very expensive for a very limited and boring exhibition. I paid 7 euro to see some old books and b/w pictures. I saw it in exactly 8 min. Friendly staff and spotless building but this museum is not a highlight.
Saint Bartholomew's Church, dating back to the 11th century, is a notable Catholic church in Liege. Its striking red facade and occasional carillon concerts make it a distinctive landmark. The church has preserved its choir lofts and nave from the 12th century, while also housing a valuable religious artifact - the baptistery, brought here in 1804.
You feel welcome when you enter this church. A small entrance fee is needed. But you get a hand-out in your language. I didn't read it because there is a lot to see. But make sure to watch the nice short video. The staff started it in Dutch, just for me! The baptismal font is very impressive. It is created with the lost wax method casting method. It is a very old method but it needs an enormous craftsmanship. The size , the sculpture and the openness proves that the make was a master in this craft. It is supposed to be from about 1107, but I personally think it could be much older. because it's very classical appearance.

Kind staff at the entrance. Beautiful church.

Nice lady’s at the reception, they also played a video explaining the church history in English. Quite nice the restoration work they had here, it look amazing inside.

I pass this church on the way to Musee Curtuis. One of the original seven collegiate churches of Liège, it an interesting example of Ottonian architecture and very photogenic with it's red boundary lines.

How they rebuilt it from literal dilapidating ruins into such a beauty - it still amazes me. The stained glass is stunning. What I liked the most was the epic story of christening the Jewish and the pagan world told on that huge medieval vessel. Worth the entry fee along with the short video.

A Catholic church with a different outer design due to its historical factors that you usually don't see in Belgium.
Though the church isn't free for visitors, and you have to pay a visiting fee of 3 euros per adult.
The Aquarium & Museum is a place with tanks of live fish and many taxidermied marine life exhibits. There are also some skeletons on display. The Aquarium is great for learning about the world below the surface of the oceans, and the Museum has interesting exhibits on aquatic flora and ocean geography.
Even despite covid regulation it was a great place with a nice atmosphere. Amazing aquarium and also a great museum part.

We went with our three years old son and he enjoyed it so much. The people are a little uptight but the aquarium is nice. Very good for children to learn if they are a little older or just to look their eyes out if younger.
The water isn't very clean for the fish though in mant tanks the water was quite dirty and the fish sometimes seem to mind.
You are nit allowed to eat or drink anywhere in the building so if you're looking to have lunch there for example you can't.
For the the rest good experience we as adults also enjoyed it.

The aquarium and the museum are quite small but very interesting, if you have children and they’re into it. It is a great place to spend a few hours, there is also an science pavilion really nice for the small ones. By the moment we visited some of the aquarium tanks were under renovation/maintenance. And the Planetarium was closed.
Keep and eye on the Planetarium and Maison de la Science because it has opening hours different from the rest of the pavilions

There is a lot of potential here to make this place wonderful. Unfortunately, today, this place is run down, feels old and outdated, and is you like aquariums, you probably visited bigger ones. It's not a bad place but needs to be modernized. We enjoyed our stay.

Me and my husband came to visit and my parents brought us here and we couldn't be more excited. This is a huge museum and aquarium with a lot to see and try with the various experiments they offer!
The only sad part for me was that all the animals (aside from the aquarium) were embalmed.

Few nice fish and some stuffed animals.
But very ver small collection.

I went to the aquarium today (first Sunday of the month) since it was freely open. I tried to book online for 3 days when the portal was open but it always gave me an error. I called the number indicated in the website but no one answered either. So I went today to see. But the person at the reception said I can’t go since I don’t have a reservation. I tried to explain my situation but his response was always no. I showed him the error messages and even I had my University ID. I came all the way from other side of the Belgium for two hours just to see the aquarium since some of my friends said it was worth visiting. And surprising he never checked others either. He just asked whether you have a reservation or not. If someone says yes, they can enter, others can’t. I could easily lie that I have a reservation and enter. But I didn’t. Since nothing to do, I visited the city but nothing was interesting for me. So I came again after around two hours and asked if I can pay for tomorrow and visit today. I was ready to pay since it was totally waste of the whole day. But he still declined and I had to turn away. At the end he said good bye while smiling. Twice. He was kind of enjoying the moment. I understand that I should have booked, but people should have empathy. I am myself a marine biologist too, and never was disappointed at an aquarium before. Please if you don’t have empathy or humanity, don’t do biology 🙏

I liked this place. It’s a 4 floors building with an aquarium on one level, science on the second, a floor called “tresor” and a botanic floor.
It has a cool aquarium but small variety of fish. Don’t expect a big aquarium with shark and etc. It is a modest one. A cool place to bring your children also. All children were happy to explore and excited to see the aquarium. On the same of level of the aquarium there are frogs and ants in a small section. It is cool. The science floor is also cool and interactive. There is an animation every hour or two which is cool. The botanic floor was very uninteresting because all the botanicals were made of wood or plastic. I expected to see more natural botanical flowers maybe however it is good for informative purposes.

We were here this summer with our three kids (7, 4 and 2 y/o) and they had an absolute blast! The aquariums are not huge, but impressive nevertheless. One aquarium appears to be dedicated to the fish from Finding Nemo, which was a great hit for our children.
There was also a (temporary?) exhibit where kids could look at different kinds of animals and create their own creature by copying over different parts (torso, legs, wings, head, etc.) from different animals. This might have distracted a bit from the actual exhibit, but it's obvious that this museum knows how to appeal to the younger audience, without degrading into a generic playground. Very well done!
Unfortunately we missed the planetarium opening hours. Not that it really matters given how much fun we had, but you might want to check that before/during your visit.

Great way to kill a couple of hours with the kids. Yes there are larger museums but there is a bunch of details that my kids took the time to understand. For the price we paid it was definitely worth it. I will come again
The Marché de la Batte is a popular and vibrant street market that takes place every Sunday near the Meuse River in Liege, Belgium. It features cheap designer rip-offs, second-hand gear and ample food stalls, making it a great place to pick up bargains. Locals seem to love it, with many saying it's one of their favourite spots in town.

Great treasure but not so well organised in terms of information. Some items aren't even described. Audioguide also not covering most of items. Having those ones out it's time to say they the collection is really impressive. Having on mind that the tickets also includes archeological site of old cathedral the entry fee is also reasonable.

I was surprised how large this exhibit is. For the price of 8Eur you will be able to venture inside the cathedral and visit even the upper levels. Fully packed with historical relics.
NightDancer Gaming — Google review
So it was ok. The presentation of items is not museum status. The best treasures are at the end on the top floor. There is also a unique piece there. It’s huge! Besides the ending. The other treasures are typical. Also, There’s a nice video explaining how the raw materials were sourced. However, I didn’t get the feeling that the treasures were the best I’ve seen. Maastricht’s & Aachen’s treasures troves are considerably better. These places are 30 minutes away. However, the treasure here was ok.

Fabulous. I spent three hours there. BUT…… so much is explained in French. If you are a French person, you already know what life is like in your region, this is your opportunity to tell everyone else about your culture.

It was a good museum overall. However, it was all about objects from different years. An audio guide or video rooms explaining the history and life style is recommended.

Nice (and economic) two-floor museum detailing life in this industrial area, modern exhibition in an historic building.
Pablo Podhorzer — Google review
Some interesting information and it’s not expensive but information is often about general European developments not specific to what makes Walloonia interesting and different, particularly from other parts of belgium. Audioguide is overly wordy with too many stops making it hard to follow and the time spent on the tour too long for the information value.
Claire Narraway — Google review
The part about the walloon history is really interesting and there are some fascinating series of old photos, but the rest of the exhibition was somehow just a collection of different objects that did not have a relevance.

Perfect for lovers of busses and trams! Went with 5 year old son last week and he had the time of his life 'driving' busses and trams.

I would recommend it for younger kids, but my 6 year old enjoyed it very much.
She liked seeing the history of the transport in Liège and it was very interesting for us adults too.
The coolest part is that you can enter some of the old trams, buses and other transportation means and play inside s little bit.
We quite liked it as a family outing and would recommend it to spend around 2 hours.

Thursday the 12th of May my great uncle and I visited this beautiful place. I would like to thank the people working there but especially the young lady who helped us out tremendously when my great uncle got into trouble with his diabetes. I forgot to ask her name but her help was lifesaving. We will come back in the near future to thank the staff again in person.
Other than that, it is a beautiful place to visite with rich history, if you can’t speak/read the French language you can use google translate camera to translate all the information in the museum.

Unsuspectedly entertaining museum for the kids, especially those interested to participate in pretend play.
We visited this museum due to our boy’s interest in the various modes of transportation, which you can easily find here. From horse-drawn carriages to trams to buses…
There was even a corner dedicated to art and craft for the little ones. The museum offered colourful papers, pens and scissors for the children to create and colour their paper 3D train.
Yes, the information was only in French but with Google Translate, that language barrier was easily overcome.
We had visited on a particularly warm Summer’s day and the staff were generous in offering free cold water to us. Super!
An educational playground for the children (and adults) truly!

A nice collection of carriages, trams and busses from a distant past. Housed in a hangar, this beautiful and inspiring collection won't win any prizes for the "best" museum, but since the entrance prices are so reasonable it's worth giving it a shot. Super friendly people as well, and free tap water for the thirsty. I had a great time, good memories, some nice pictures, and I think I might even go back there.

We just went to look if we need to book beforehand, but you don't have too.
We've played 2 games of bowling, they have very modern tablets to take pictures of each player, you can take a group-selfie for the background which is funny.
You can drink like everything from soft drinks to hard beverages.
