Bangsbo Fort, situated on a hilltop plateau in Frederikshavn, Denmark, offers a fascinating journey through military history. Originally constructed by the Germans during World War II to safeguard their supply routes to Norway, the fort is now home to canons and rich historical exhibits. Visitors can explore bunkers and learn about the fort's role during different periods, including its use as a control center in the Cold War era.
Well worth the hike, even in streaming rain and battering winds just before closing. If you're going to skagen remember to get the slightly more expensive ticket that grants admittance to the kystmuseet there as well
Simon the Delusional — Google review
Bangsbo Fort is located on a hilltop plateau on the southern outskirts of Frederikshavn, and the vantage point 82 metres above sea level provides a remarkable view out over Frederikshavn and the waters of the Kattegat. On clear days, the it is possible to see all the way to both Skagen and Læsø.
Leandro Seixas — Google review
Worth a trip. There are loads of bunkers here, each themed differently and best consumed by purchasing the extra entry ticket to have full access to all the bunkers

It was Sunday but we were able to see the bunkers and the boat.

Very well maintained and presented WW2 gun battery system. The reenactors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Worth your time if you enjoy WW2 history.

One of the most coolest places in Denmark I've been watching at bunkers and also in one of the bunkers you get too hear how is was to be questioned by the Danish gestspo during the 2. World War, "that's a very though challenge to get through" so if you are strong mentally you should go for it and it is not for everyvody. My experience was very scary. But you also get a lot of information about how they used the area. So I totally recommend it to anyone is interested in both photography and history.
Benjamin Christensen — Google review
Military history at its best! South of Frederikshavn is the 80 meter high hill Pikkerbakken where the German Kriegsmarine had a group of bunkers built during WWII to protect the harbor. In 1944 the bunkers were armed with Krupp cannons from the Danish artillery ship Niels Juel. After the Danish Navy took over the facilities at the end of WWII, Bangsbo Fort became an important control center during the heyday of the Cold War (1952-1962). The Danish navy still controls shipping traffic in the Kattegat and Skagerak from this hill. Since 2005, the part of the hill with the old bunkers has been open to the public, the cannons have been restored and the Kystmuseet opened its doors. And that is only to be welcomed, because the museum and bunkers are absolutely worth a visit!

You feel history at that place - absolut great.
80 Bunker are in this area. Its free to go in every one, if its open.
Lars Keck — Google review
It had a great view and free in time of our visit in August but most of the bunkers were closed or in a bad condition
Hossein Bagheri — Google review
The museum is definitely worth visiting, especially, the hospital and the naval command bunkers, the former has detailed designs of the sanitation systems. There is a free, 1h guided tour in Danish language at 1100 hours. The entry ticket is valid for 7 days and one can visit total 4 museums (kystmuseet) any no. Of times. There are only two(at least, publicly accessible)15cm cannons which aren't well maintained.
The museum authorities said that it doesn't receive any patronage or support from the commune where it's located and the entire expenses have to be covered with the entry fees. This explains well the poor maintenance of bunkers and cannons. While I respect every local language in the world, the artifacts are explained only in Danish which prevents foreigners from understanding the information. Another disappointing fact is that the museum is located in a military-controlled area, probably, that's the reason that 60% or more of the bunkers are closed for public access.

Bangsbo Botaniske Have is a hidden gem in Denmark, offering a unique blend of history and natural beauty. The area includes Bangsbo Fort, which provides fantastic views of the city and islands. Visitors can explore the museum, including exhibits on the German occupation and a 900-year-old Viking ship. The well-maintained garden features a variety of well-marked plants and connects to other parks. Additionally, there is a park nearby with activities for children, including a zipline.
Amazing place, the deer are right next to you. Different coloured routes with lengths from 2 to 4 km (if I remember correct) are nice. Take a foto camera with a zoom ;)

It's a great hidden gem in Denmark. When we went there was almost no one there. The ticket price into the museum includes entry to a couple more museums nearby. I really enjoyed the German occupation portion of the museum. Also the gardens are beautiful. There is a 900 old Viking ship on display. Lastly there is a great park close by for kids to play on that includes a Zipline.

Very well maintained garden, lots of well marked plants. Easy connect to other well maintained parks. We can see staff are enjoying their work. Very smart to accept donations for building nice benches or adding plants with the donee’s name and the important occasions such as anniversaries or birthdays etc. I wish Copenhagen botanical garden has similar program.

Hirsholmene, a captivating island situated off the coast of Denmark, offers a remarkable retreat for nature enthusiasts. Known for its mesmerizing beauty and unspoiled landscapes, this scenic haven boasts an array of diverse ecosystems and abundant wildlife. With its pristine beaches, lush meadows, and enchanting forests, Hirsholmene provides an idyllic setting for leisurely walks and tranquil exploration.
Pikkerbakken, a stunning viewing platform in Frederikshavn, offers an unparalleled panoramic view of the city, harbor, and Hirsholmene. This 71-meter-high platform is part of a 3-km coastal cliff shaped by the Ice Age and provides clear views of Saeby, Skagen, and even Laeso on a clear day.
Nice viewing platform, nice forest tracks close by. You can go for a nice walk and also tables for picnic. Little rocky road to get there but it was managable. Not many parking spaces, most probably will be crowded in summer season.
Mari Kukerman — Google review
A breathtaking view. The road to this view spot Leads through forest and is no asphalt, so not recommended for low cars. I was there with a Passat and it was no problem. Even if you have to stop before and walk the rest, it is definitely worth it. We were there at night (see the picture) and we were the only people there, it was so quite, almost magical. If you are in Frederikshavn, this is a must-visit.

The Sæby Church is an exquisitely designed Danish religious building that stands out as one of the most appealing Lutheran churches in the region. It boasts stunning wall paintings and emanates a warm, welcoming ambiance. Its charming atmosphere is something that every tourist should experience while visiting this part of Denmark. Unique for its well-preserved beautiful medieval frescoes and finely decorated flower motifs, dating back to the 15th century. So thankful for being allowed in for free; I bought some nice post cards and a brochure in return :)
PS: Commenters with 3 stars or less demonstrate their own ignorance of medieval art, history and christianity. (Sorry, I usually don't write things like this, but for some unfathomable reason google blatantly flagged a 3-star review as most relevant for me... Come on...)

FunHouse Frederikshavn is an ideal destination for families with children, offering a great way to keep kids entertained before catching a ferry. However, the lack of substantial food options may require visitors to seek alternative dining options. This children's amusement center is perfect for rainy days as it provides activities that can tire out energetic kids. Although admission prices are slightly expensive, FunHouse Frederikshavn offers a clean and well-organized environment, catering well to both parents and children alike.
