SanGimignano 1300 is a small, but impressive museum in the town of Gimignano that covers the history of the city up to the year 1300. The museum contains a model of the medieval town with impressive towers and churches, as well as multimedia history exhibits. Admission is free for those under 18, and donations are accepted for those over 18.
Very cool model of the entire San Gimignano village. Free entry. Helps you get a feel for the scope and also explains the tower houses and how they worked. Definitely worth taking a look at!

It is a informative historical museum. The model of the town and the model depicting the use of the interiors of the towers were especially interesting. There is a small gift shop as you enter that has some interesting souvenirs.

This art museum is nice but very small. Not something to go out of your way for, but if you're in town definitely stop in for a few minutes to see the model of the city as it was around the year 1300.

If you have ever thought about old Tuscany this is like a dream. Beautiful architecture with a human scale. It just feels good to wander around this hilltop city. Outstanding.

Lots of interesting things to see in San G., but this is one of my favorites.
Michael Plasterer — Google review
The museum is a little off the main tourist road up the slope. This is probably why this great museum is not overcrowded, although it does not cost any admission.
But for a donation, young and old can marvel at a bombastic miniature version of the city from around 1300. Impressive above all because it comes very close to its current state.

It is free 3D recreation of the town as 1300. It says that 2 brothers made it in 2 years. Must see place. Do not forget to support it by buying some nice gifts to your loved ones.

Very friendly staff, amazing wine and food. Spectacular views of this vineyard, short distance from San Gimignano. A 1 hour bus ride from Florence. We want to come back for more wine, food and truffle hunting!

Absolutely amazing. I went here in summer 2023 and was blown away with hospitality. I unfortunately arrived late due to transportation issues and it was not a problem and instead i was encouraged to stay as long as I'd like. (do not recommend being late just very glad they could accommodate me). The wine and food was immaculate, I booked the truffle tasting thinking i was just getting my pasta and wine and instead was happily surprised with a olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting as well! Truffle pasta is definitely worth trying, the snack plate was also very tasty. Every single staff member was very kind and informative. They have the cutest dog on the property and even let me meet him when i asked. Also gave me a brief info tour on the property when i asked. 10/10 would absolutely book again!

I have been to multiple wineries in Napa and Tuscany and this is hands down the best winery experience I have had! The property is so beautiful with San Gimignano in the background. The staff was helpful and made great effort in explaining the history and process behind making the wines. I fell in love with Vernaccia and can’t wait to get it shipped to the US.

Great experience in local wines of San Gimignano. Staff was friendly and informative. We booked the wine tasting with dinner and tour package. The tasting and dinner were delicious, although we never got a tour of the vineyard... When we asked if we could look around the vineyard, they said it was fine. But they must have forgotten about our private tour 😕

This place is beautiful!!! And the experience was amazing. We started with a mini tour of the vineyards and they explained all the different crops and processes to us. Then we did the tasting. The wines, olive oils, and vinegar were great and the food and cheese were a nice added touch.
Bonus points for the family dogs on the property that you could pet and play with.

We booked online, very easily. We were warmly greeted and given an overview of the business and vineyards. The tasting was great, we took the merenda snack onr with appetizers, olive oils, aceto balsamico and wines. The dishes and wines were all of very good quality. It was a pity not to see the cellars due to work being done, but understandable.

The place, the view, the food, the wine and especially the people who are part of the wonderful experience!
Highly recommended! ... And in case you get nostalgic for the tastes, you can buy their wines and extra virgin olive oil directly from their website marronaia.com

This beautiful family owned vineyard it’s an absolute must if you planing to visit the marvelous town of San Gimignano. It’s only 15 minutes away by foot or you can take the 130 buss that comes from Poggibonsi.
We reserved ahead the wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar experience. You get to sit and have a wonderful view of Tuscany, they give you 5 wines to try, the Vernaccia is absolutely amazing! Then you can try al the different olive oils and vinegars. You should plan to stay there atapuce 2 hours! You have after and before to visit San Gimignano since it’s a really small town.
The family is so nice and give you personalized experience! Would 100% recommend it if you are traveling around Tuscany!

We had a fantastic wine and olive oil tasting, as well as a 'tuscan style' lunch here. The price for the tour was very reasonable too. The location is stunning too, with a beautiful view of San Gimignano, and surrounding wineries. Highly recommend a visit here is you have time.

Wow, just amazing.
Brilliant wine, brilliant staff, wonderful setting - even on a windy day like today!
We looked at a lot of tours and obviously in Tuscany you are spolit for choice which can be overwhelming! We are so pleased we chose La Morronaia for our tasting!
Really good value and no problems with my dietaries even with only one day notice. We did choose the wine and cheese tasting which was easier but given the hospitality I'm sure with more notice they'd have accommodated a full meal tasting for us.
Sara was so knowledgeable and has a very friendly and inviting approach - I'm so happy she let me practice my Italian without judgement and also was very good at English herself.

Spent a whole day here truffle hunting, at a cooking class, wine and olive oil tasting, and eating lunch in the vineyard. The service and activities were all stellar, but the prices for wine and olive oil were a bit high, especially for this region.
The weather was gorgeous as we started off the day driving to a nearby forest to go truffle hunting. The truffle hunter was friendly, and we learned so much from him about the different kinds of truffles we could find.
Getting back, we began our cooking class to make bruschetta, pasta, and chocolate truffles. All of which tasted delicious!
Then we got to finally sit under one of the umbrellas to enjoy our lunch, wine tasting, and olive oil tasting. I particularly loved the spicy olive oil with the medium balsamic vinaigrette.
The whole activity is a bit pricey, but it was nice not to worry about going from one activity to another as everyone at the family run winery communicated with one another to make our experience relaxing.

The wine tasting at Podere La Marronaia was held in front of spectacular views of vineyards and olive trees. Guardastelle Farm Holiday Estate is a delightful bed and breakfast that features stylish, warmly decorated rooms and apartments in splendid hues. The property includes a lovely garden, an outdoor pool with comfortable loungers, and a genuine commitment to preserving the traditions of Tuscany. The family who owns this estate has imbued it with love and devotion for many years, creating a magical atmosphere that welcomes all guests with care and attention to detail.
Our stay at Guardastelle was amazing. This family run business is very well managed and we’re super helpful. We came here for our honeymoon and the staff were super nice and friendly. We stayed in their apartment which is a separate housing unit on the property with great A/C units which we gladly used due to the heat wave. We were steps away from the pool (great temperature for hot days) and vineyard. We also did the their wine tour which included a tour of the vineyard and ended with a set lunch with 5 different wine tastings. The food was exceptional and the wines as well. Their olive oil is to die for. The proximity of their place is close to San Gimignano (25 min walk) and close/easy to get to the highways (we rented a car and travelled to nearby places). The views of the country side are incredible and breathtaking. We hope to visit again and will be telling all our friends about it.

Just magical!! We had our wedding here in June of 2023 and I still can't believe what an incredibly beautiful place this is. The photos truly don't do it justice. Our immediate family (20 people) stayed here for 3 days and everyone kept telling us how fantastic it was.
The entire team including Fausto, Susana, Aurora, Stefania, Caterina and especially Claudia helped to make this time so special for all of us. The service is just beyond amazing and the food is wonderful, thanks to Stefania and her team. The rooms are large, air conditioned and well-appointed. The pool is relaxing, quiet and lovely.
We had a welcome dinner for our families, which turned out beautifully. Most of the guests did the wine tour and lunch with Caterina and everyone raved about it. Finally, the wedding day was just a dream. Our guests were in awe of the beauty at Guardastelle. This place will hold such a special place in all of our hearts!

We stayed in early May, and everything about our stay was perfection. The Guardastelle is so charming with stunning views and warm welcoming hosts who provided a delicious and varied breakfast each morning. We ordered a case of wine and had it shipped home. One of the bottles was back ordered, so it did take a little while to receive. But everything arrived well packaged and without damages. Would absolutely highly recommend staying here. Looking forward to returning.

Whilst staying in San Gimignano, we were eager to do a wine tour but weren't sure which one to chose. We found this one on Google and are so glad that we did! We walked from San Gimignano (there are two roads, one of which is much safer for walking but we didn't find it until our way back).
Our guide was excellent. I can't remember her name but she is originally from Finland. So knowledgeable and friendly. The wine was beautiful and the food to accompany it was out of this world. Loved the home-made red onion jam (not something I thought I would like!). If you're in San Gimignano, book this, you won't regret it!

It's not often that I comment on these review sites, but if you're thinking of booking a room at Guardastelle all I can say is do it! My husband and I had 2 wonderful nights at Guardastelle in early April. What a fantastic place to stay in such idyllic surroundings- breathtaking views. Our room was wonderfully decorated (the whole property and grounds are fabulous). The welcome from Fausto and Mathilda was also so friendly and made us feel very relaxed as soon as we arrived. We did the wine tasting & lunch- Rafaella was so knowledgable and superb fun. The lunch and wines were delicious- we'd recommend doing this. Breakfast at Guardastelle is also an absolute delight; great choice, great tastes and beautifully fresh and in gorgeous surroundings. Guardastelle is a perfect place from where you can explore the town of San Gimignano (approx 20mins walk from Guardastelle). We had such a great stay, it has left a lasting impression on us.

Wonderful place!!! We loved our stay and would definitely return. Our hosts and staff couldn’t be nicer. What a beautiful place and location. Breakfast was really good and they fixed us eggs and bacon in addition to the table filled with a variety of food. We were in Italy for a month and stayed in four places and this was a favorite. You can walk to town but in the evening it may be easier to drive if you have a car. It is about one mile and is uphill going to town. You can drive to many other areas/ towns and we noticed that some people were taking tours. It would be hard not to have a car here. Wish the swimming pool was still open for swimming (closes Sept. 30). Rooms are beautiful, very clean and well taken care of.

We came here for the afternoon wine tasting and tour. The views are absolutely stunning — even for Tuscany, where stunning views are around every corner. I enjoyed learning more about the wine making process during the tour and then tasting the delicious wines after — two white, three red, and excellent antipasti to accompany them (actually the best tomato bruschetta I had in Italy). The length of the afternoon tour (about 2 hours) was just right, a good balance between walking around, learning about wine, then getting to sit and drink it.

We spent 4 nights at Guardastelle in mid October. We arrived there from Florence and our first thoughts and words were.."It is so quiet and peaceful" We were 2 couples and stayed in the Andromeda apartment. It was perfect for us. The view out our kitchen window was stunning but can't compare to the view from the 2nd floor outside dining area where we had the most unbelievable breakfast each morning. All of the staff were amazing. Aurora and Claudia could not have been more helpful. Because of the unusually warm October weather they had kept the pool open.
We did a wine tour and tasting which was fun and informational. Can't deny that the weather was perfect which certainly made the stay A+
At our request for a recommendation for somewhere we could drive one day for a small town, non touristy feel Claudia sent us to Certaldo. It was amazing.
The walk to San Gimignano is a good workout but not horrible...uphill yes but the reward is the sweetest town with so many shops and restaurants and the views!!!!
and to top if off we had their amazing olive oil shipped home and it arrived today, one day after we got home! We will be back to visit the hills of Tuscany and we will stay again at Guardastelle!

How "professional" can you guys actually be?? I ordered 4 wine bottles and 2 olive oil bottles online a long time ago- I only received the wine but not the olive oil. When I brought that up, they mentioned it was a mistake, apologized and that they will send me my olive oil promptly. Seemed pretty standard- so I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
I reached out again a couple months later- they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. I reminded them of the issue; that I didn't receive my two olive oil bottles that I paid for yet. Again, they "apologized", didn't mail the olive oil but promised to send them.
More waiting.
And waiting.
And waiting.
Getting frustrated, I asked for my money back or to actually mail me my two olive oil bottles. After a series of back and forth emails, they against promised to mail them. More time passed with nothing showing up. I reached out again, upset now. There was a long series of back and forth emails, at some point the people I was emailing with apparently didn't work there anymore (Noemi, Fausto, Viviana?), and the new person(s) needed me to explain everything all over again.
I'm disappointed that they refuse to solve this very simple issue. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place.
The Tower and Casa Campatelli tourist attraction, located in the town of Elsa, is a complex made up of a 28 m high tower house from the 12th century with preserved 19th-century living quarters as well as an ancient structure from the XII century. It is rare to find such a combination of tower and house in one place and it has been donated to FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano, Italy's National Trust for environmental preservation.
Amazing exhibit!! I love this interior architecture and seeing what the house looks like was amazing. There was no wait or line and everyone was very friendly.

The Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta is a historical church in San Gimignano, Tuscany. The church was built in 1148 and underwent a major restoration in the 1460s which added to its decoration. The Collegiata features beautiful frescoes dating back to the 14th century, which depict scenes from the Bible.

Yes, it is full of beautiful buildings, but it is also packed with tourists and all the shops to support them.

Once we step inside the city walls in San Gimignano, we feel like we have stepped into another time, a few centuries back. It’s not just buildings that touch the clouds that are the only thing worth seeing in San Gimignano. Although the towers are what sets the city apart from others, many small charming Tuscan places. There are also countless beautiful churches, valuable works of art, palaces, beautiful narrow streets and squares. One of them is Piazza della Cisterna (Cistern Square). In earlier times, the Piazza della Cisterna was the centre of all public performances, tournaments and festivals that were held in the city. It was also the main marketplace of the people. Its design is from the 13th century and it is named after the Cisterna (Water Cistern) that is still present amid the piazza today. Connected to the town’s largest square, Piazza del Duomo through an open passage, this piazza is entirely paved with brick and is surrounded on all sides by houses and towers from the Medieval Era. The beauty and charm of this square is created by the beautiful atmosphere and scenery with l’arco dei Becci (Arc of Becci), which is the gate of the ancient city of San Gimignano. The Torri dei Becci (Tower of Becci) is on the left and the Torri dei Cugnanesi (Tower of Cugnanesi) is on the right side of this arc. Among these is the Palazzo Razzi, characterized by its mullion windows. The adjacent Casa Salvestrini is a former hospital that was converted into a hotel. Dine at the hotel’s café patio or upper floor restaurant, which affords views across Tuscany’s majestic countryside. Overlooking the north side of the square we can see Devil's Tower. Legend states that, after a trip, the tower’s proprietor noticed that its height had increased. He accredited the occurrence to a diabolical intervention and the tower subsequently took on its name. The square, along with Piazza Duomo, is a venue for various fairs which are held as part of festivals in honor of saints, including St. Fina, the city’s patron saint.
The wine tasting and tour here was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Tuscany! David was so welcoming and really took his time to give us an interesting and personal tour of their wine making process. Plus the way they produce wine is unique and special in of itself so that really makes this place stand out on top of the great tasting/tour experience. The tasting was so relaxing with the beautiful views and some of the best food we had while in Tuscany. Hanging out with his dog Suleiman all morning was a cherry on top! Cannot recommend stopping here enough!

Perfect spot for a getaway from a big city. Very relaxing place, very peaceful, very nice wine tasting experience with David and yep the wines are amazing, not too much expensive! The only downside is the road leading to the vineyard is a bit rough, about 10mins of rough road so make sure you have nice tires 🍻

David was a dream to have as our tour guide through the vineyard and through their cellars. VERY knowledgeable and funny. Suleiman the dog will melt any dog lover’s heart the whole time you are there. This vineyard is located atop a large hill in Tuscany giving picturesque views of the surrounding area and villages. David also went above and beyond with our wine tasting and they were all delicious. He was helpful with our limited knowledge of the wine industry and characteristics and made the visit more than worth the already good price!

We visited this winery on the last day of our Tuscany trip and it immediately became one of the highlights of the entire trip. Arranging an appointment was straightforward and easy. When we arrived at the top of the winery after a somewhat adventurous road, we had a wonderful view of a dreamlike Tuscan landscape and the wonderful San Gimignano, as well as the typical Tuscan buildings of the winery. We were in a bit of a hurry when we got upstairs, but if you first breathe in the wonderfully calm atmosphere of this idyll, you come to rest immediately, but at the latest when you get to know David with his calm, level-headed and serene manner.
After some small talk, the tour started. First about the history of the winery on the grapevines, about the production in the warehouses and about the wine itself in the wine cellar. David's knowledge does not begin and end with wine, he has a great general knowledge, which enables him to consider many aspects of wine production and sales from different perspectives and contexts and what makes the tour all the more informative for visitors.
After this very informative tour in an intimate circle, we went back to the table where, in addition to some bread with olive oil and nice conversations, the wine tasting took place. David takes his time and goes into every single wine and he and Salomon are great company. I would just like to say this much about the wines: our wallets are now lighter and our cellars are full.
In the end, David again showed us his hospitality and we were allowed to enjoy the food we had brought with us on his dreamlike terrace, together with a couple of open bottles of wine and an incredible view of San Gimignano and the surrounding landscape.
In conclusion, I would like to warmly recommend a visit to this winery to anyone who can plan a stay in Tuscany.

The lunch was also amazing, such high quality and delicious food and more than we expected! Excellent experience I highly recommend this vineyard if you had to choose one in this area

We had a wonderful time in the company of David, and both the stories, the history of the houses, the wine, the area, the food, the dog, and the man himself would want us to go back.
Thank you David, for a wonderful experience, great tastings, wonderful food, thank you for the recipe on the beans, the great laughs, and if you hadn’t been so welcoming I’d be afraid the danes would have to take on Tuscany by force someday.
Love your place and your @Tuscanwinedog Suleiman.
All the best

I loved my visit to the winery. We had a wonderful tasting. The scenery is beautiful. I ordered two boxes of wine but never received the second box. I’ve sent several emails with no reply. I suppose I’m just out over $200 for a box of wine paid for but not received.

A wonderful winery with a beautiful view! We accidentally came outside of visiting hours, however David was very friendly and still offered us a wine tasting. We walked away with a lovely bottle of their Chianti Classico.

A stellar wine tasting experience. David was a very interesting and personable guide, discussing the history of the winery and local region with us and answering any questions we had with professionalism.
The wine itself was phenomenal and highly varied. David explained each wine to us, outlining the flavour notes and pairings to us. The food was staged and paired spectacularly with each wine we were given. The views of San Gimignano were also stunning.
I'd love to come again, and wish I could bring their wines back with me.

David was the perfect tour guide, host, and person to share a lovely afternoon with! Our group left full of delicious local food, had all of our wildest wine dreams met and had the pleasure of hearing all about rich Tuscan history. To make things even better their fur baby Suleiman joined us on our adventures.
I would highly recommend touring the vineyard and soaking in all the wonderful things this Tuscan Heaven on Earth has to offer.

We went here for a tour and tasting and got welcomed by David. A really nice guy. He made the tour very interesting. The wines itself were really good, some of them different than many others we had in our stay. Very interesting. With the wines we had really some really nice bites like the pickled paprika, pecorino cheese, hams and salami. It was one of the best and nicest tastings we ever did. I would definitely recommend this.

What a gratis place to stay (and taste wine!). David is a excellent host who shows love for the winery and is a great storyteller.
The appartements are very comfortable, bedrooms are air-conditioned. The estate is great to explore, swimming pool is excellent.
One minor detail: the road to the estate is somewhat challenging. I you are so unfortunate that you own a sportcar, forget it. A 4x4 will do the job properly..
The Palazzo Comunale, the Art Gallery's Camera del Podesta and Pinacoteca (Government Offices) are home to wonderful artworks from the 13th-17th centuries. The tower has a scenic view over the town and surrounding countryside.
Incredible place. The tallest tower (54m) in San Gimignano. There is a museum, too. It's worth to go on the top.

A really MUST!! This is the tallest tower in San Gimignano... so you can imagine how beautiful is the view... On top of it... it is not as difficult as one may think... A MUST!!!

If you're gonna do just one thing in San Gimignano, climb the Torre Grossa. Definitely do it. Beats every single other experience we've had in Tuscany and Italy so far. The views from the top are just spectacular, a 360 degree view of the Tuscan countryside. I can't stress enough how beautiful it is. There are quite a few steps up - around 200, and there is no lift. So keep that in mind. It's worth getting the combined ticket if you're interested in medieval art, churches and frescoes, otherwise just go up the tower.
Come earlier during the day. We visited around 11 AM on a Saturday in May. There was no wait and not too many people - it didn't feel packed on the top.
Michal Šimurka — Google review
Is remarkable, beautiful and medieval. But expensive ticket. I did not pay to climb. There are better views from other parts of the city. Ice cream is superb :).
Pajo TP — Google review
It is the tallest tower in the town and can be visited at a cost of €9 or €13 with the "SAN GIMIGNANO PASS".
There are many steps to reach the platform with the bells but the reward is a magnificent 360° panorama.
Wealthy families showed off their wealth by building towers and compete in their height .
A limit was placed on this, they could not be higher than the Rognosa tower, that of the "podestà" who was a public magistrate with various tasks.
To expand the space available to him in 1300 he began the construction of this new palace with this even higher tower: 54 meters.
For this reason the Grossa tower is also called the new "Podestà" tower.

Amazing little medieval walled city. Really wonderful to walk around and visit the different shops and feel the history all around it.
Alex F. Lazo — Google review
Especially when it’s nice weather, I recommend to climb all the way up and admire the view from the top of the 50-meter-high tower. The stairs may take you some time (there are around 200 steps) but have been renovated so they are wide and more than safe
Daniele Rocchi — Google review
Well-worth the hike up 200+ stairs for these incredible 360 degree views of Tuscany. You need to climb a ladder to get to the very top of the tower and need to duck under the bell to experience the full views, which further limits accessibility, but there are some spots to take in views through windows along the way if the full climb isn't for you.
Claire — Google review
Possibly the best panoramic view in Tuscany! San Gimignano and Montepulciano are my favorites for scenic views. Worth the climb up the stairs and small ladder. Not crowded, even on a weekend, when nearby gelato shops have lines.
George F — Google review
When you visit San Gimignano the best place to see the amazing beauty of the town and surrounding countryside is to climb the Torre Grossa.
The views are well worth the climb, which is not too arduous.
Dan Woodruff — Google review
My wife and I paid 13EUR each to obtain a pass that included Torre Grossa entry. Despite being Sunday with crowds in the city, there was no line or waiting to gain entry to the tower. We ascended the 218 steps to the top of the tower and enjoyed spectacular views of both the city and surrounding area. The steps up are 'grated metal' and thus allow you to see all the way to the bottom of the stairwell if you look straight down - those with vertigo are advised to hang on to the railing and simply look straight ahead and you will be good-to-go. The stairwell ends with quite literally a steel ladder that you must climb approximately 10 feet before entering the top of the tower - so anyone not able to climb ladder rungs should probably avoid this adventure.

San Gimignano - a perfectly pretty and small hilltop Tuscany town with many medieval towers. Torre Grossa is the tallest and only one that you can climb - and you must climb to view awesome Tuscany landscapes.

Great view Toscana from the top of the Torre. Forget about climbing the stairs. Is very easy to get to the top and also worth the effort and the money.
We arrived on Sunday and they were kind enough to open for us. Wines are very tasty with specific flavours to this winery. All biologico. Prices very reasonable. Recommended.

Booking the tour was very easy via the website. The friendly, english speaking hostess showed us around the buildings, explained the wine making process and pointed out the vineyards and which grapes are grown. Then we tasted 2 white and 2 red wines which came with some bread, chease and salami to pair with the wines. The Vernaccia Riserva 'Isabella' and Chianti Colle Senesi were our favorites. The wines are very tasty and affordable, We left again after one hour with a couple of bottles and some olive oil. Recommended if you like an informal / uncompllicated tour.

Fantastic authentic small family run winery. If you want something different than the tour bus catering mega wineries this winery is perfect. Besides the lovely wine tasting you get a perfect view of San Gimignano from the winery. Lovely extra bonus. We did the 15 Euro per person wine tasting with food pairing. Lasted 1 hour, included 2 white and 2 red tastings asking with bread, cheese and salami.

Luigi (tour guide) was more than hospitable! This place is a great choice for a quick, easy and affordable outing near San Gimignano. Delicious wine and olive oil is all organic and biodynamic, all grapes are hand picked and the winery is four generations family owned! We had a great time touring and tasting wine, highly suggest.

Isabella was our host (I believe also the owner). A very pleasant person who is just one of the generations involved in this winery since 1860. I love the history. They also grow olives. I believe she said they had 700 trees. We enjoyed our tasting in a very relaxed atmosphere. There was no charge. If you get a chance, give them a visit.

Raffaella gave us an excellent experience today!! We first looked at the vines and grapes. Then we went inside to see how they make the wine and bottle it. Along the way, she shared with us an amazingly high level of information, at each step. There were definitely many new things that we learned! Then, after we went through these processes, we entered the tasting room, to begin tasting. She expertly explained about each wine, from the first through the last. We have been to many, many wineries & this clearly was our best wine tasting experience, all due to Raffaella!

My partner and I visited for a wine tasting after a morning in San Gimignano. Booking online was simple and easy, and the tour was really interesting. I was really excited about this place and the reviews sound great. However, I showed up at 1pm for a tasting and all the doors were locked and no one was around. The sign on the door said open 10:00-17:00 and the website also says they're open, but no one was there and the door was locked. Shame - really wanted to check this place out, but I guess you can't count on them being open when they say they will be.

Wonderful organic winery. The tour was great, the host (Rafaela (I hope I spelled that correctly)) was personable and knowledgeable and a lot of fun to talk with. We booked a wine testing at this place on 5th of July and we bought 2 bottles of wine. When we arrived home I noticed that one of them is completely destroyed. I believe the owner must has known this problem because he had picked the bottles and put them in the box behind the counter.
Azienda Agricola Palagetto is a charming winery in the Tuscan countryside, boasting a rich heritage spanning three generations. Despite the historical changes in Italy, this winery has preserved its deep-rooted traditions. Visitors can indulge in affordable wine tastings and explore the exquisite range of wines. While some find their overall wine selection not as impressive as other local wineries, their rose stands out.
We had an excellent time at this winery! The staff were very friendly and hospitable and ensured our visit was perfect. The wine was delicious and the tour explaining the history of the winery and the production of the wine was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this for visitors in Tuscany!
C Alexander (yorksgiftworld) — Google review
Neat place off the beaten path. Their wine is not as good as most places in the area, but strangely their rosé is the one that really stood out. When our server was with was us, she was very knowledgeable and friendly. However, the only sure way to get service at some points is to wander around to find the group of servers hanging out chatting since they forgot about you. I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm talking about waiting 20+ minutes just to close out and buy wine.
I wouldn't put this place #1 on my list with so many other great wineries in the area and with the subpar service, but it's worth a stop if you make a reservation and catch staff on a good day probably.
While the wine didn't blow me away, the prices are pretty good. So if you're looking to buy some drinkable wine at a decent price, you could do worse.

First of all, the place is absolutely gorgeous and really located, with delicious food served during the wine tasting!
However, we have been hugely disappointed by the experience there (we have booked the standard wine tasting with cold appetizers for an hour and a half). From the first moment we entered, the young lady who welcomed us seemed out of touch, and gave us a really brief explaination about the winery (1min max) while standing at the counter. When seated, we started to receive the food and wines, but without any decent explanations whatsoever. The basic information we received were the colour of the wines and that they pair well with everything on the plate... But what shocked us the most, was that she was using the exact same glases which have been served the previous wines, and that even without cleaning them. we are definitely no wine experts, but this is definitely a no-go, as the flavours and smells of the wine would mix. My friend even had to sip quickly the last drops in the glass on hurry before she pourred wine into his glass so that the wines wouldnt mix.
When leaving, we werent even asked how we found the wines or any feedback whatsoever, we were just greeted with a "good bye, here is your receipt". I could have understood it, had the place been packed but this was definitely not the case
This might be a one off, as all the comments about this winery are exceptional (and believe me, i would have loved to leave a great comment). However, we left the place disappointed. We would have loved to hear more about the winery, when and how it has been created? What awards it has won (we saw some of them in the entrance)? What type of grape they use? What are the flavours of the wines?,... We feel like we would have had better explanations and indications from a local bar tender at a winery...
We hope these comments will be considered as useful and be used for improving the quality of place as it clearly has a huge potential.

My wife and I enjoyed a wine tasting at Azienda Agricola Palagetto on Saturday, 15 April. Julia provided exemplary service, walking us through four wines (two variants of Vernaccia di San Gimignano), I'Terzo (Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG), and Sottobosco (super tuscan) DOC. All four were excellent. I prefer unoaked whites and thus preferred the unoaked Vernaccia di San Gimignano over the oaked - my wife is just the opposite. I'Terzo and Sottobosco are both complex reds; we purchased a bottle of I'Terzo solely because we have already purchased several Super Tuscans at other vineyard estates and wanted to round out our inventory for the remainder of 7-week adventure here. There is only one reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars, and I admit it's rather unfair, but it's that Azienda Agricola Palagetto is quite large (producing approximately 350,000 bottles/year per Julia) compared to the 35,000 and 70,000 bottles of two other small family-owned and operated estates we recently visited in Umbria and Tuscany, the one offering five different bottles with the other offering seven wine choices; Palagetto has over 20 wines from which to choose. I'm confident Luano started off much smaller too, and growth only comes with extremely hard work, perseverance, and dedication to quality. The two smaller vineyards simply exhibited slightly more passion and enthusiasm during our visit - if they too grow with the success of Palagetto, that might change. (I am unsure as to what the 'average' family vineyard size is in Italy - we may have simply found two small anomalous vineyards.) Again, truly 'splitting hairs' - we would not hesitate to return to Palagetto again.

The Chiesa di Sant'Agostino is a medieval religious building in the town of Gimignano, located in the province of Siena, Italy. The church is notable for its 15th century frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli, depicting the life of Saint Augustine.
One of the most peaceful places!
A must see in San Gimignano. Not as busy as the other places so it’s ideal. Beautiful frescos. Walking in the Cloisters is bliss. No cost to enter but donations are accepted. Beautiful grounds, but better options in the area for the price.
We booked a 3pm lunch in the garden, had a great arrival at 3pm, had to wait 40minutes which was fun to explore the grounds. The tasting was suppose to be a sample 11-12 wines. We sampled 6, and had a large gap after the main meal. We were provided 3 glass to sample the wins and were asked to mix wins to save glass/reused multiple wine glasses when other tables had 6-9 glass per spot.
Minimal explanation on what the wines were, which tasted good, but couldn’t navigate what was being served. Good wine, but negative tourist trap experience.

Majorly underdelivered. Sales session. The olive oil experience was not what is described on their website. We were seated in a pleasant room with glasses set out and some olive oil bottles. Bread pieces were brought and six olive oils were pored in the glasses. After only a couple minutes of vague instruction, we were left alone. No history, nothing about the process of making olive oil, nothing about how to taste, nothing about how to use the various olive oils in cooking. Quite disappointing. The man there was much more interested in speaking to the other couples who were sampling wine. He was clearly about making sales. We had to flag him down to ask about the olive oils. His answers were very short and he would shockingly walk away in mid-conversation (to go to the other couples). We had to flag him back down, only to experience the same superficial responses and an abrupt departure by him. My expression of shock at this was quite apparent. We told the man that the description said 10 olive oils would be tasted. His first response was that the 6 varieties were what he had. Some time later, he came with two more bottles that he „found“ in the back. FYI, the waitress, Mary, was very pleasant and helpful. She brought us the platter of food up front. When we were finished with tasting, I asked her for the dessert described in the description. It felt like that would not have been given to us given we were totally left alone the final 15+ minutes. The man was quite busy talking with the other customers, and then he disappeared. He never came to conclude the session or say goodbye.

All of the staff are extremely professional, friendly and service-minded. The estate itself and interior is absolutely beautiful. Disappointing customer service. We had a wonderful tour, lunch and tasting at the winery. We placed an order to have wine shipped to our home and got notified it would be delivered within 2 weeks. A week later, we received word from Fed Ex that the shipment had been damaged with instructions to contact the winery for resolution. I reached out immediately but waited several days for a response. I had included the communication/explanation from FedEx, but the winery required me to send them proof of purchase before they would do anything. I immediately sent photos of my purchase paperwork, then again waited multiple days with no response. I reached out again and was informed that they won't send a replacement shipment until FedEx provides them proof that it was in fact damaged. It's been over a month since I placed my order. I now plan to request a chargeback from credit card company. Very disappointing. While I like their wine, I cannot recommend anyone purchase an order for shipment.

Casual wine appreciator here. Came around start of november for wine tasting and a vineyard walk.
The vineyard was really beautiful with a lot of roaming animals. The weather was good so it was also nice to chill outside. The wine tasting and truffle lunch was also delicious! The wine selection was also really good for the price of the lunch.
Only downside is that even with the discount, their wines are still quite expensive (40-80 euros). But if you’re only here for the experience then it’s worth it!

Let me tell you our story in brief. We went on a wine tour with my wife and young son. This was our first stop. The owner was a charismatic man who made friends with us and my son, telling me of his own young boy. He told us very clearly that ALL costs including shipping and duties are included in our purchase. At the counter, he then mentioned that as Canadians we must purchase a minimum of a crate, not making eye contact.
Fast forward a few weeks and UPS has notified us of a 102% levy on the wine!! That means double the price, from 700CAD to 1400CAD. To make matters worse, my wife has been receiving scam emails from a fake UPS site with all her info and finally compromising her card!
I know there is a high rating here, but we did not deserve to be treated this way. I send this as a warning to anyone visiting or making purchases here.

My friends and I did a cooking class with Dante and we had the most incredible time. Staff was extremely friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable of Italian cuisine and wine. Dante really gave us the best experience and we look forward to returning! Thank you!!

Beautiful experience! We did the truffle cooking class with Dante, amazing. He was probably the nicest and most down to Earth person we have met on our travels so far. Not to mention hilarious and a good chef. Would 100% recommend this to anyone, especially doing it with close friends or family. Great job, Dante.

If I could give this place a zero I would. WARNING: DO NOT ORDER WINE FROM HERE. Honestly the wine was nothing special minus one of them I really liked. The olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette were also really good so I ordered some. I ordered over $130 worth of product and it never came. My friends who ordered products got theirs, but mine never came. When I went to reach out to them, they took days to reply and then sent me in circles. They said they would reach out Monday and then Monday comes and they say they will reach out Tuesday all while saying they have the information about my order, but they simply will not send me tracking information or just be honest about never sending out my order. If you like a gamble, go ahead and order. Maybe you will get your order, maybe you won't....like me and a few others (read reviews I am NOT the only one)

I went to a tasting as part of a tour. Wine was good, and the snacks with balsamic vinegar and olive oil were excellent. The presentation and service were fun and approachable. Other tastings I went to provided more volume, but they also cost more. Overall the tasting was a good value and I would return.
They did, without asking, do a currency conversion on my credit card purchase, which cost me $15. Completely unnecessary, and I'm not sure why they would do it since it benefits only the credit card processing company. Pay cash or ask upfront. Every other vendor I used my card with would either run a straight euro transaction or allow me to use the terminal and decline.

I want to start with the positives! This business is truly run with love. we did a wine tasting and our server was so kind and passionate in sharing her family’s story and information about the wine. Additionally the location is magnificent! they have animals and it’s in a great part of the countryside. Now, the not so great parts…The prices for this are too high. We came to visit as Americans and so we almost felt as if we were taken advantage of. there were three of us but I did not drink and was still charged the full €39 for the wine tasting when i consumed no wine…odd? According to the people I was with, the wine was nothing to phone home about and so it was not worth nearly €40 per person.

We booked a Wine, Oil and Vinegar Tasting here and took a coach out from Florence. The bus had AC and the trip wasn't too far so was quite a nice journey through the Tuscan countryside. We were met by our host who was knowledgeable and shown into a room with cheese, ham and bread out with some wine already poured, my wine had a bug in it so I was a bit put off. The wines themselves were lovely. We tried a White, 2 Reds, Rosé, 2 Oils and a 30yo Vinegar which was delicious!!

We arrived without a booking for wine tasting but were accommodated for and offered various packages.
We chose wine tasting with light lunch at 55e each and 15e for kids.
Melanie who did the wine tasting for us was super friendly and knowledgeable! We had a great afternoon.
Great tasting wine and generous pours, yummy food and again amazing service.
Highly recommend!

This was the most amazing experience. We stayed at the hotel signed up for the wine tour and lunch. The next day we did the cooking class, and ate what we made. Then finally dinner in the cave.
Dante was awesome with the wine class. The staff is just awesome. We ate A LOT of food and DRANK A LOT of wine in the 2 days that we signed up for those events.
Highly recommend this, and would definitely come back and do it again.

Had a fantastic experience! Would highly recommend. We bought tickets for the transportation from Florence and tasting. The only thing I would advise is if you are booking through Get Your Guide make sure you confirm the pickup time for the transportation with Tenuta. Get Your Guide will provide communications to arrive 10 minutes before the start time to be picked up but the transportation actually arrives 1 hour before to be picked up. At first it seemed like Tenuta wasn’t going to be able to accommodate but they called us back with availability to pick us up a few hours later. Very much appreciated!

This was a lovely property with friendly staff however this was not our best wine tasting experience… we have been in Tuscany for about 8 days and have visited several wineries in the Chianti region, all have been wonderful and the wine has been too notch! I will say, the wine produced out of this winery was very good, and the food pairing was nice. The issue we had with our experience was that if really felt like a factory, just funnelling guests in and out, and there wasn’t a ton of connection with the folks running or supporting the wine tasting. We got seated and created by 2 different people, had 2 glasses poured right away with no instruction or explanation by a 3rd person and then finally the “main wine expert” came over to us (after about 10 minutes of us just sitting and waiting with no direction) and he gave a very quick rundown of 6 different wines what were sitting in front of us then disappeared until we finished our last glass. It would have been a more enjoyable experience if we had been grouped together with a few others so that we could enjoy the wine together rather then just sitting with little direction. Thankfully we are very familiar with the wine tasting process and we’re able to make the most of it but I think there would be benefit to making the basic tastings more fun and sociable especially when your tasting so many wines! This didn’t feel like an authentic experience to us but the quality of wine was very nice.

We came here on our honeymoon 2019 to visit the vineyard. We had an amazing wine tasting and tour. The family was very kind! We continue to order wine from here online and can’t wait to visit and stay now that they have lodging available.

Superb afternoon tasting wines with wonderful appetisers, guided by an expert. Felt under no obligation to buy - superb experience. Even our daughter who is too young to try the wine was taught how to hold the glass properly and smell the aromas - they even specially made her some spaghetti.

Such an excellent place! I was here with my group of tourists and we had the most amazing experience. The host Mira was so charming and friendly. They have excellent wines, olive oils, balsamico and all these were served with delicious Tuscan salami, cheeses and bread. I will be back for sure!

I look forward to coming to Tenuta Torciano every time I travel to Italy. The location is top notch - about 45 minutes away from Florence, clean, well manicured, and elegant. You can tell the staff all love what they do and are extremely knowledgable about the region, food, and wine. The food and wine pairing is extravagant and well thought out, especially for those who are unfamiliar with wine tastings. Truly a professional, welcoming, and generous establishment.
Donna Varamo — Google review
The perfect place for a large group tasting. We thoroughly enjoyed 9+ different wines, and a surprisingly stout food menu of meats, cheeses, breads, soup, lasagna, truffle oil, and balsamic vinegar. Lead by the expert guide of Gabriele, our 60+ wedding party had the most incredible tour. The vineyard excels in quality both on site as well as shipping internationally, some of the more rare wines of the Chianti region

Complete tourist trap! Stay as far away from this place as possible. The tours are average at best, mostly rushing you through to get you to buy as much wine as possible at the end. Buyer beware, their customer service is the absolute worst and non existent. We purchased the luxury wine set for £500. When we got home and opened the wine, both bottles were bad. When I reached out to their customer service, they told me they would get back to me with a resolution. Three days later, they emailed me to say that I must have stored it incorrectly and they are sorry they can’t help me. Prior to this incident, I had booked their wine school here in the US. They were to come and do a demonstration of their wine for 20+ guests. When I told them that I would not move forward with the wine school, they finally decided that they would help me. They sent two more bottles of their luxury wine and BOTH of those bottles were bad. We open them as soon as we receive them so t storage of the wine would not come into play. I once again reached out to the winery, and they told me that they would get back to me with a resolution. They emailed me four days later to say there was nothing they could do to help me, and that they raise a glass to me. £500 and they did not resolve the issue. Also read other customer service issues that other people have had with this winery before you consider purchasing anything from them.
Great place and service! For 15 euros p/p you can get a tour of the winery plus a tasting at the wine shop. Melanie was great and gave us a great walk through the facilities, their history and wines. Make sure you book the tour in advance!

We had a nice wine tasting at a peaceful place in the middle of nowhere . Friendly staff. We tasted three wines for 15€ each . The prepared us some cold cuts and some cheese with the wine with no extra charge.

We had an amazing tour around winery and then wine tasting. Our guide was very polite, giving a lot of information about production and wine itself. Then we had tasting of 5 wines with cheese & salami & bread. The wines were delicous, we end up buying 2 bottles. Really recommend the experience, however do not buy wines there as in the city you can buy them 2 times cheaper. We unfortunately found this out later :)

We were welcomed with open arms into Teruzzi with only 30 minutes notice of our arrival. Our Agriturismo (Il Vecchio Maneggio) set us up that morning for a tour and it did not disappoint. Beautiful scenery and wonderful host. She gave us a beautiful tour and large pours of their wine. Each wine was absolutely delicious!

A nice stop along the way to San Gimignano, where you can taste some good local wine along with salami and bread.
The surrounding landscape is breathtaking, and close to what you see in postcards from the region. Rolling green hills covered with vines.
A few of the pictures in earlier reviews are somewhat misleading though, since they show food options which really isn't available on-site. But if you are content with great views, tasteful wines and some rustic cold cuts, then this is a good place to stop.

The wine tour was nice and very nicely explained. They showed the process, the machinery and the bottling process.
The wine tasting was not satisfactory. I expected to learn more about understanding the differences in wine better. Was a little expensive for the experience.

Fattoria Poggio Alloro is an organic family farm located near the popular town of San Gimignano. The farm offers rustic and hearty dishes that change with the seasons, recommended by local food writer Emiko Davies. Visitors can stay in comfortable apartments with picturesque views and enjoy delicious and filling dinners accompanied by delightful wine. The owner, Lorenzo, ensures guests are well taken care of during their meals.
We only stopped here for a coffee, but were impressed with the place's hospitality and attitude. The team obviously make customer king here: no request is left unresolved, no question unanswered. The setting is fantastic - picture perfect Tuscan landscape all around helps create the perfect holiday mood. If we decide to holiday again in the area, we would gladly book a room here.

We didn’t stay at the hotel but we had a wine tour that stopped here for lunch and a tasting. We didn’t know it existed but we were very glad to find it! The food was incredible. Best I’ve had in Italy. The wine is delicious. The farm is spectacular and very peaceful. The service was amazing and very friendly. I highly highly recommend this place.
If I had more time, I would easily stay for an entire afternoon to eat and drink by the fire. Great ambience. This place made me want to live in Italy and I haven’t felt that anywhere else!

Definitely a beautiful setting with amazing sunset over San Gimignano!
The room is nice but lacks some windows and decoration on the walls. Some bottled water would be nice too.
The mattresses were on the bouncy side but if you don't toss and turn, you won't get "mattress sick" :-)
Decent size bathroom with amenities but the thin towels were not as good as regular fluffy towels. Sadly they should stop using those mini shampoo bottles and have a greener option with larger bottles directly in the shower stall.
Swimming pool with lounge chairs and towels in the room for the pool (those are fluffy).
The staff is friendly at the reception and the owner is super nice too. The rest of the staff is OK... Specially the breakfast staff and the cleaning staff could put on a smile...
Breakfast is good but the fruit juices are simply HORRIBLE!!! Is that juice or made with powder??? Skip it or change it!!! Make sure you read the menu and order what you ant because the staff is not to be seen very often to bring things. A little music would be a nice addition.
Dinner was very good and with their homemade produces, like the cold cuts, the oil and the saffron in the risotto.
Overall a nice stay with good food. And location is 5*!

Visited the place as part of our Walkabout day tour of Tuscany region. Glad we opted to have lunch here as the view from our table was salubrious, even more so than the wine and food we were served, which in their own right were smooth and delicious, respectively.

We visited the vineyard as part of a tour with lunch at the vineyard. Nice 3 course lunch and you serve yourself wine as provided...
The Chanti is good and we bought 2 bottles to consume throughout the remainder of our holiday. Shipping to Australia for wine can be 'rough' on the taste unless specifically wine shipped.

Went for a wine and olive oil tasting,
Enthusiastic team. Great wine. Great olive oil.
Everything was made on the 300 acre or made by their neighbors. Outstanding local produce, next level salamis/meats to match!

We had a group of three (3) people and stayed in the apartment for three nights and LOVED it! The apartment had a bedroom, living room and kitchen. The living room pullout bed was comfortable. The view from this place looks unreal - like a postcard! Dinner all three nights was delicious and so filling, be prepared to eat a lot of food! The wine is delicious as well. We really enjoyed the Owner, Lorenzo, he was always making sure everyone had what they needed at dinner and talked to everyone. 10/10 recommend!

The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff made our experience truly exceptional. We were impressed by how accommodating they were to our dietary preferences, customizing the set menu.
What really stood out was their extraordinary kindness and assistance when we faced an issue with our car. The staff went above and beyond to help us and were incredibly helpful.
We can't recommend this restaurant enough. The ambiance, the food, and the staff's hospitality make it a must-visit destination for anyone looking to savor a remarkable dining experience.

We visited as part of our day tour for wine tasting and lunch and we had the absolute best time. We've been visiting Fattoria Poggio Alloro throughout the years since 2015. We have many great memories from here. Many evenings with good food and laughter. This is a family run business, and it is nice to see some of the owners around and interacting with guests.
In our most recent visit, it felt different and not like we have known this for years. The service was rushed and not very attentive. The ambiance was not very cozy (the fact that there were a few very noisy and drunk guests didn't help). And the food was ok but it used to "have more soul". The patatos and pork ribs were simply inedible - very hard, and with bad taste, it felt they were recooked.
We hope things will improve in time, and we will maybe revisit in the years to follow.

A Tuscan gem. We enjoyed the farm tour, wine tasting and a beautiful lunch served on a terrace overlooking Tuscany and San Gimignano. Lunch was a delicious farm to table experience. A wonderful day for our group of 12 Canadians.
Contrary to popular belief, the Torre Grossa is not the only climbable tower in San Gimignano. The Torre Salvucci Maggiore offers a unique experience as it has a holiday apartment that spans over ten stories with the viewing platform located on the eleventh floor. The entrance fee is 4-5 euros per person (students pay 4 euros) and provides access to stunning views from both inside rooms and at the top of the tower.
Private tower. The ticket costs 5€ per person (4€ if you are a student) and it is only for a tower with a view. Just like we wanted. There are some rooms inside and a stunning view at the top.

I organized the marriage proposal on the terrace of the tower, surrounded by a breathtaking view and, with the help of a home chef, we had dinner directly in the tower. Perfect if you want to surprise your partner, giving her a magical moment, in a location from times gone by.
