The Shree Ambabai Temple, Kolhapur is a magnificent Hindu temple renowned for its intricate sculptural designs. It is considered one of the most significant and lively places of worship in Maharashtra, dedicated to Amba Bai - the Mother Goddess. The temple's history dates back to AD 10, but much of its present structure was built in the 18th century.
If you are in Maharashtra then you should visit this temple in Kolhapur. You will have a really good experience and you can see the structure of the temple which is made by carving thousands of stones in very detailed way to make sculptures of the gods. You will also get to know the history and art of the ancient people here in this place. A great place to visit.

The temple is beautiful and exudes a peaceful and calm atmosphere. It's centrally located and radiates positive vibes.
However parking can be an issue.
Street parking is available nearby and there is a municipal parking lot, but it can be somewhat hard to find.
The municipal parking charges 30 rs for cars. Toilet facilities are also available. It's about a 15-minute walk from the parking lot to the temple.
Be cautious of locals who may try to charge 50rs for parking closer to the temple, as the municipal parking is a more cost-effective and trustable option.

Shri Ambabai Temple or Mahalakshmi Temple in Kohlapur is one of the ancient Shakthipeethams in India. This sixth century Chalukya temple is an architectural wonder. It appears that a major earthquake in the 8th century which damaged most of the original structure and has been reconstructed over the centuries.
The temple complex has four main entrances. The complex includes five huge spires. The main idol is Goddess Mahalakshmi. Next to the main idol is Goddess Mahakali and Goddess MahaSaraswathi thus representing the three Goddesses of Hinduism.
It is so devine to have a Darshan of Shri Ambabai and what a positive experience and energy!

I also tried faluda which was decent in taste. I sat there for some time as it was really calm . Try to visit during odd hours you may find less crowds. Especially during weekdays it's really less crowded so you can easily find some place for yourself and spend some peaceful time. You can either read a book, eat something from there or just stare at continuously moving waves of the Lake.
I visited during August last week when it's not too rainy nor too cloudy . I also tried the boat ride which was worth spending for sure. I took dolphin ride for 2 people.

There's a frequent bus service from the Kolhapur bus depot, with buses departing every 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can easily reach the temple by your own vehicle, and there is ample parking available on site.
One thing to note is the absence of public washrooms in the area, so it's advisable to plan accordingly. The darshan experience typically takes around 30 minutes, but on special occasions, this time frame may extend. Our visit was quite enjoyable, but there is room for improvement in terms of temple infrastructure and facilities for devotees.

A very iconic devotional place in Maharashtra. This place is adorned with Gulaal ( गुलाल ) everywhere. Deity (मूर्ती) is beautiful and the architecture has influence of Hemadpanthi (हेमाडपंथी / हेमाडपंती) style.
Things that could be better:
Parking - There is no dedicated parking area for devotees nearby. You will need to arrange from nearby stalls that allow you to park your cars in exchange for offerings that you buy for the temple deity.
Cleanliness: Must be improved considering the temple gets thousands of devotees everyday.
Inside the temple, Priests (पुजारी) at temple are quite insistent on giving दक्षिणा / दान at every deity. Mind you, there's one main deity of Jyotiba and many other deities around. This experience is not very nice!
If you ignore these 3 things, it's very satisfying to visit this iconic and religious place and enjoy a truly pink surrounding!

Amazing experience. The entire journey was an exhilarating experience. The temple being located at the summit of a hill. The climbing experience is reminiscent of the one we usually have while traversing up the hair pin bend curving roads of thirumala.
The entire visit to the five plus temples located, are dedicated to the trimurti, ma amba Mata, Nadi dev and jyotirlings. It is said that the entire hill encompasses the 12 jyotirling.
The history goes that ma aadhya Shakti created her version of the Trimurti, who were said to be infinitely more powerful than the original three, to destroy their ego.
In short it has a wonderful panoramic view, and the most amazing personally spiritual experience, one can ever imagine.

Palace is awesome, beautiful garden, animal enclosures, lake, huge plot of land surrounding the palace and palace itself is too big. All the artifacts are century old and authentic. Evening climate was serene.

This location is historically significant.
The palace is well-kept, although there is room for improvement, especially since admission payments are collected.
Dust can be found in many areas, particularly around where weapons of various types are kept.
You must also turn off your phone because taking photographs is definitely prohibited.
Overall, a positive experience that will help everyone remember history.

Kept pretty well.
Minimal entrance fee.
No photos allowed inside and if you're caught clicking any then won't be spared easily by the guards.
There's a horse cart ride also available just outside the palace. Worth taking :)
The surrounding area has a school so you can see parents waiting around for their kids.

kept reasonably well.
very little entry cost.
No photos are permitted inside, and if you are seen taking any, the security personnel won't spare you.
Additionally, a horse-drawn carriage ride is provided right outside the palace. Value taking:
There is a school nearby, so you can see parents waiting for their children.
This place has important historical significance.
Although the palace is kept in good condition, there is always potential for improvement, especially now that admission fees are being collected.
There is dust everywhere, but it is especially noticeable near storage locations for various kinds of weaponry.
Additionally, you must turn off your phone because it is undoubtedly against the law to take pictures.
Overall, a successful experience that will aid in everyone's recollection of history.

New Palace, Kolhapur is a palace situated in Kolhapur, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The Palace took 7 years to complete, from 1877 to 1884,costing about seven lakhs of rupees.Being an excellent specimen of Indian architecture built in black polished stone, it has been an attraction for tourists. It has extensive premises with a garden, fountain and wrestling ground. The whole building is eight-angled and has a tower in the middle. The clock on it was fixed in 1877. At separate distances there are small towers. On every glass are painted the events of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life, the founder of Maratha Empire. There is a zoo and a ground lake. Even today, it is the residence of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja, the direct descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja.

A really good place to explore Marathas way of living with the level of exhibits collected. A guide service would be much appreciated to understand it In depth instead of having to google it every second. Photography is not allowed inside which is a bummer. But maybe it’s cause to create that excitement which is totally worth it.
It is really good for all ages and really fun with its play area and a lot of deers and birds around are just a delight.
PS- if you are visiting for the first time, you have to buy the tickets in the entrance of the huge gates and not when u enter palace to avoid almost a kilometre or drive.
No where is it mentioned ticket counter, so as soon as you spot huge gates just stop by and buy them.

One of the top tourist attractions in Kolhapur city in the state of Maharashtra is New Palace.
The construction of the New Palace is done in black stones and dates back to 1877–1884.
The New Palace is situated in a wide area and consists of garden, zoo, museum, lake and wrestling ground.
This is a must place to see if you ever visit Kolhapur.
Exploring this Palace would give us an idea of how kings were used to living a life in earlier days.
The New Palace has a tower in the middle and a clock was placed on this tower in the year 1877.

Good place for a one time visit. This palace has the potential of being turned into another of India's fine tourist draws but sadly its maintainence is lacking. Its a good historical piece of India from tourism viewpoint but there are no guides to explain.

The place is awesome. The museum artifacts are also great. Rare weapons, old guns, paintings. It has more to offer than just Kolhapur throne history.
The garden around the palace is nice.
Entry fee is Rs 40 for adults and Rs 20 for children (5 to 15 years)
The museum display needs renovation though. People have written on walls and it could be the reason most paintings are a copy instead of originals. Need to fix wall paints and armoury section display can be made more attractive.

The palace is conserved and presented to the local public and tourists as a historical attraction. The ground floor is converted into the Shahu Maharaj Museum. It showcases the clothes, weapons, testimonials, from the royal family. The museum also keeps in display the hunting hobby of kings of the Maratha Empire. The collection includes stuffed tigers, tiger heads, blackbuck, bears, Himalayan black bear, black panther, wild boar and several deer varieties. Some letters from the British viceroy during the time of freedom struggle are also kept in the display.

The palace has been converted into a museum, due to which some of the rooms are very congested. If it is a museum the lighting should be improved. In the museum you can see a 150-200 year history of Kolhapur. Ticket window is also an issue if you are an outsider. It is a small room just behind the main gate of the palace. So there are high chances you will miss it, and you have to return to the gate for tickets.

This temple is at the corner of Mahadvar Road. The temple consists of two parts, the inner temple and the mandap in front. Both these have no pillars to support the ceiling and hence the temple is called Binkhambi (or without pillars). The mandap is a square room about 25' x 25'. The usual tower with Kalas is on the inner temple. The image of Ganapati is of stone with Shendur applied to it. The temple was formerly known as Josirao's Ganapati, possibly because the Josirao family was managing the temple.
