Beautiful and peaceful memorial that will be appreciated by history fanatics, especially WWII experts. The cemetery is open during the day and free to visit. There is not much parking directly at the entrance but you shouldn’t expect many visitors at once.

Visiting the Moro War Cemetery (for this Canadian traveller) was a very moving, reflective experience. The grounds are impeccably kept and the various sections are all worth strolling through as one contemplates the sacrifices made by both soldiers and Italian citizens who were thrown together in late 1943. While visiting Ortona, my family and I were also treated so well by the local population. Tells you a lot about the people from here, and why everyone should add this hidden gem to their Italian travel itinerary.

This is a memorial to the many hundreds of young Canadians and their comrades from around the Commonwealth who died defending Europe from the NAZI war machine. It was very very tough going here; Churchill once called Ortona the 'Little Stalingrad.' The courage and heroic contribution of the young men who rest here are in many ways eclipsed by the Normandy invasion. However, the Italians have done a wonderful job of honouring the sacrifice made here. This is as much a garden of remembrance and honour as it is a graveyard. As a Canadian I am thankful for the care and respect; seeing Ortona enhances the strong bonds of friendship between our two peoples.
I highly recommend every Canadian that visits Italy make some time for Ortona - the natural setting is stunning, the folks are friendly and welcoming, and the war memorial / garden is a powerful place. Hey, it's Italy - You will not regret it!

The beach and thus the sea were strewn with various waste (plastic bags, handkerchiefs, cutlery and plastic cups), in addition to the fact that the entire surface was covered in bubbles... I also happened to see a couple of dead crabs in water, but I don't know if this indicates poor water quality or is normal. Looking against the light you could also notice a certain patina on the brownish colored water. Truly disgusting and a shame. Nobody took a bath.

Ortona's Cathedral of St. Tommaso Apostolo, renowned for its stunning artwork and grandeur, houses the holy relics of Saint Thomas the Apostle. This majestic church is a significant attraction in Ortona, Italy. Visitors can admire the exquisite paintings within and marvel at the intricate design and architecture. The Relics of St Thomas the apostle of India are kept here, brought from Mylapore to Edessa to Greek island Chios.
In 1358 the relics were brought to the local church in Ortona, which was elevated to a minor basilica by Pope Pius IX in 1859. There the relics of the Apostle St. Thomas, along with the looted tombstone, were displayed in a crypt, and remain to this day.

The beach is very clean with golden sand and the water is cristal clear for most of the season.

Trabocco Mucchiola, an Italian restaurant located in Ortona CH, offers elegantly presented dishes and wines in a rustic cabin perched on stilts over the water. The ambiance and location are highly praised by patrons and the staff is friendly. The chef is approachable and adds to the enjoyable experience of dining at Trabocco Mucchiola. Although reservations may be necessary due to high demand, the outstanding food makes it worth trying out this amazing place.
This review is for the view only, we did not eat here. The restaurant is closed during off season but it’s possible to visit the trabocco and have a picnic with a view. It is one of the best ones to visit along the trabocchi coast and there is a fun door to take photos with as well. The entrance is along the bike path and it’s easy to access but you must walk and cannot drive all the way there. One of the most beautiful places in Abruzzo!

You pass behind buildings and you can see the sea at times. We didn't do the remaining 20 km to Vastò because we had to do about 2 km on the state road. Time spent about 5 hours stopping for swimming and lunch. The daughters were also happy and appreciated. They moved independently.

(Translated by Google) Unique experience. It's incredible how the provinces and municipalities when they are together and in synergy are able to create something magical. The dream for the world would be a cycle path that circles all of Italy on the coast. But this is already jaw-dropping! They told me that it will be inaugurated by the authorities on April 27, 2023 but there were already an infinite number of people! Flat, it runs all along the sea with trabocchi! 40 km ...unique ...tourist opportunities are enormous! And so commercial... there are meadows along the route with benches for picnics... places on the beach where you can have a spritz and spend time with friends. They have always told me that there is a stretch almost close to Vasto that they should fix because there was a dismantling but I hope they fix it soon and that it starts precisely from Ortona to Vasto. However, they assured that it is more than 40 km long and almost entirely overlooks the sea. The Grail of cyclists! Now...I hope it is well maintained and the asphalt is looked after. Advice for the authorities... are there any access points for emergency vehicles? Watching on a bicycle? Public water fountains and toilets? Shelters for people to shelter in case of sudden rain? Here you just need to fine-tune these things if they aren't already there and then it's perfect. They told me that it is already very popular, at the entry point to San Vito Chietino there is an information point with knowledgeable people and maps and everything. In short, definitely go to the post office for this. I hope people understand and respect the rules to make everyone enjoy this wonderful place. Not just cyclists with racing bikes who race or people who do crazy things with their bikes, specifically endangering children. We need strict regulation like everything else in Italy.

Esperienza unica.

The Battle of Ortona Museum is a moving tribute to the fierce World War II battle, showcasing artifacts, photographs, and documents from the conflict. The museum's centerpiece is a detailed diorama of the town, offering insight into the intense fighting that took place. I was impressed by the care and concern that was put into the artifact collection and layout.
The centrepiece room for me was the diorama of the entire town, block by block, building by building, road by road, rubble and tanks included.
I also enjoyed reading about the civilians resilience under the 5 day battle and long-term reconstruction.
I would have liked to see a map with every location of battle damage, graffiti, key point, but that might be a future initiative: mapping out a walking tour.

It's ok. Steep access. This is some litter around and no bins. The sea looks very clean.

(Translated by Google) The beach is long and narrow.
The composition is varied: sand, pebbles, fine gravel, coarse sand.
It is located under both the old and new railway lines. Depending on the currents, it can extend northwards (usually at the beginning of summer) and southwards (late summer).
Those who want "services" go to the many seaside beaches scattered along the coast because here (fortunately) there is no "service".
The road to reach the beach is closed to vehicular traffic, so be aware that the return journey, which is uphill, can be tiring.
It is easy to find micro plastics especially close to the promontory that gives the beach its name, the southern one.
Avoid rough seas, also because the beach goes almost completely under water.
Ideal for those who love nature and tranquility. (There are people, but not too many, only on weekends)
Instead, it should be avoided for those looking for services or who have 1000 demands.

You can easily lie down and sunbathe without anyone bothering you or you can go fishing in peace, many don't even know this place or in any case not everyone is available to make that beautiful climb with everything you need for a day of sea, beautiful beautiful beautiful

Personal opinion the beach is nothing special...horrible train track route 10m away rubbish dump at the beginning of the route...zero shade! ok it's wild but there is better!
Poor Italy... if you think it's a beautiful beach, why is it left in these conditions..?

Buongiorno

(Translated by Google) Stunning beach with gravel... very clean and crystal clear water. You park in a free car park about 500 meters from the beach which can be easily reached on foot along a dirt path (even with children, but not with strollers and prams). The seabed goes down quickly. Ideal for those looking for a quiet, relaxing beach....with colors that fill the sight and the soul. Highly recommended!!

Consigliatissima!!

The Zooart Ortona art gallery is an impressive rejuvenation of a public structure that serves as a model for other cities. It has transformed a former zoo into a captivating and imaginative creative space. Despite the missed opportunity to visit the bar, it remains an appealing place to spend quality time with friends.

When the bar is open, the cocktails are made very well, the music is perfect and everything is immersed in a surreal atmosphere, between art and craftsmanship.
Not coming is an insult to your trip

(Translated by Google) Beautiful atmosphere and splendid location.
Excellent as well as cheap cocktails; They don't have a kitchen but you can still conveniently order burgers (the one with truly spectacular mutton) and more at a local burger shop and have everything delivered on site without excessive waiting.
Excellent music, well-organised events: a very pleasant surprise in the heart of Ortona.

Bellissima atmosfera e splendida location.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful reality where they have redeveloped the cages of the disused zoo in the center of Ortona and transformed them into laboratories where artists recover disused material while also doing ecological work. Furthermore, they activate all the human resources present in the area and have collaborated with elderly people by decorating trees and rubbish bins with handrails with crochet! Beautiful art! Thank you

A very beautiful creative area has been created from a former zoo. Too bad it was closed when I went and I didn't use the bar. However, it is a really pleasant place to spend time in company.
