The historic house of Shibden Hall, near Halifax in West Yorkshire, is renowned for its period rooms and gardens, as well as its mini-railway and boating lake. The museum also has a collection of historical objects from the surrounding area.
What beautiful grounds and parkland with an amazing house overseeing it. The house is a working house with some interesting features. Anne Lister's alterations are interesting as is her history leading to some tiny spaces and steep steps. The house's history is told throughout with information points. The coach house and stables are filled with agricultural history and carriages. Cafe by the ornamental lake is popular and efficient. The stonewall garden near the house is really interesting as well

Absolutely stunning building, you could almost feel the walls talking to you. Lovely market there the grounds were beautiful although was ruined I felt by a certain family drinking cans of cider and being loud and obnoxious to people visiting the home. But otherwise a lovely day there .would highly recommend.

Beautiful house, lovely staff and the grounds are also great. Roads to access were quite steep and bumpy for a little car, but cheap parking when there. Really lovely place particularly for fans of Gentleman Jack and Anne Lister.
Be sure to walk around the grounds and the lake - there are even boats to hire.

Amazing place to visit, bring money though and lots of it, there's loads to do for all the family from riding the little train, rowing a boat to walking around the house, the food was pretty good in the cafe too.
Although I spent a fortune me and junior really enjoyed the day out here.

I have visted Shibden Hall twice now and have absolutely loved it both times.
I am a huge history and architecture fan so this is a real treat.
It is very informative of live in the bygone days with plenty to see and interest you.

Amazing time at Shibden, lucky enough to have experienced the beautiful gardens and walks around the grounds before but not the house itself - so going inside was a real joy and the experts inside gave a fabulous insight into the real life of Anne Lister and the mark she left on this area. Would recommend highly to all ! We will defo go back x

Fantastic place to visit. 50p per hour to park and £ 8.00 to go in the house. They advise booking tickets on line to visit the house due to the increased interest with the tv series Gentleman Jack. You can however phone the hall and ask if they have space for you to turn up on the day and pay. They allow a rolling 30 visitors every half hour to the house. Beautiful grounds to walk in, there are toilets and a cafe.

Wonderful house and grounds. The house has a lived-in feel to it, perhaps because Gentleman Jack gave a taste of what the house would have been like when it was occupied... We happened upon the ribbon cutting for the restored clock in the yard, which chimes on the hour... Well worth a visit.

This is a stunning place to visit in Halifax. If you have watched the series Gentleman Jack then you will appreciate even more. Super friendly and helpful volunteers. A lovely couple of hours spent here and then there is a lovely park and walk below the hall.
Pay and display parking reasonable and also toilets and disabled parking.

Dates back around 600 years and full of very interesting period items. As well as the house there are stables and work areas. Highly recommend this place including the grounds which are really nice. There's a train ride £2.50 each duck ponds rowing boats cafe fair ground etc. Great family fun for 2 to 3 hours.

Really pleasant park. Plenty of space to wander with or without the dog. Nice play area for children as well as a boating lake and miniature railway. The cafe is nice but can be a little pricy. The house and walled gardens are really interesting. If you are a fan of the tv series Gentleman Jack then this is a must day out.

Often places don’t seem to live up to their reputation, but such is not the case for Shibden Hall. The house is gorgeous and visitors can access all the significant rooms. Fans of Anne Lister will appreciate the chance to walk in the spaces so prized by Anne, her partner, and family. Displays in each room highlight important info. and pace well throughout the visit. Friendly staff were on hand to answer all my questions. I enjoyed the house so much…and then I entered the attached Folk Museum. What an unexpected pleasure! Various rooms display the tools of coopers, saddlemakers, wheelwrights, and smiths. I spent as much time enjoying these collections, the walled yard, the carriages, and the jackdaws singing from the trees and what was a perfect sunny day. I spent 2.5 hours and the time flew by. What a perfect visit!

Beautiful house. The grounds are vast.
It is quite a spooky place and majestic at the same time.
The gentleman at the desk told me lots of interesting facts and stories about the place.
Well worth a visit.
Timeless place
If you go by foot from the town centre....make sure you can handle it. It is very steep and a lonely woodland walk.
The bus is easier.

We visited Shibden Hall 7th March. It was so much more than we expected. Fantastic and all original in this amazing house. Lots of information points and the staff just incredible in their knowledge . Make sure you also visit all of the pit houses too. Cannot wait to return and enjoy the wider grounds on a brighter day.

Shibden Hall Park is a great place to play or walk (dog friendly). Lovely paths which wind around the house and grounds. Cross the road from the top car park and there is another (defined and relatively well kept) path, which leads to Beacon Hill, where there are great views over Halifax and beyond.

Lovely building on beautiful grounds. There's a small car park near the hall, and for disabled spaces, there's a little drive down a narrow road to park right next to the hall (there aren't too many spaces here).
The hall itself is great with a route taking you through the bulk of the rooms and information boards in each. There's a courtyard with various outbuildings too that you can view as part of your ticket.
There's a small gift shop that sells cups of tea but the dining area leaves a lot to be desired.
The rest of the party, lake and big cafe near the lake are free to enter and great for a picnic, walk or paddle boat.

Much bigger than expected and with lots of information on it's past. Lovely grounds that we couldn't explore due to the weather.
A must visit, especially if you've watched Gentleman Jack.

Wonderful insight into the life of the local landed gentry. The Hall and the outside exhibits are well maintained. The information offered is excellent and there is not too much, so the visitor is kept interested but not overwhelmed with facts. The staff are absolutely superb, knowledgeable, friendly , they do not intrude but are available to answer questions. A really enjoyable experience.

Absolutely wonderful place, a museum that is doing the best it can with the funds it has. A loving remembrance of LGBT heroine, Anne Lister, and her family and way of life in Yorkshire at the time.
Beautifully maintained grounds and out building. So worth a visit. Worth more than the current entrance fee.
The Piece Hall in Halifax is a unique and exceptional architectural and cultural landmark, which was built in 1779 as a cloth hall. It is the last surviving Georgian cloth hall globally, representing the critical role of hand-woven textile trade in Yorkshire's pre-industrial economy from the Middle Ages to the early 19th century. Today, it houses various history exhibits, shops, bars and restaurants where visitors can enjoy music events with some of the world's most incredible bands and artists.
More than 30 years since we last came. What a fabulous transformation. Plenty of independent shops which kept the misses happy. Lifts are also now available to the upper floors. I like what’s been done with the step waterfalls and levelling off the courtyard with picnic benches and ample seating for all. All in all a very pleasant visit. We must go more often.

Excellent venue. Well organised and superb sound. Good atmosphere and staff were friendly and very helpful. Had VIP tickets so were up in the balcony. Being open air it stated no umbrellas or chairs. No parking at the venue so look for car parks nearby such as Broad Street. Would definitely go back. Lovely time.

Superb space and building, it's hard to imagine that such a place exists in UK, it looks like Italy. When the weather is good it's fantastic to stroll around, perusing the shops, bars, and cafes. There's not a huge number of shops but it's pretty varied and there's something that should interest kids and adults alike. There are lifts and plenty of toilets. There are many events held regularly here, the other nice thing is that there are plenty of car parks nearby, and the surrounding streets with borough market, and numerous arcades nearby make for an interesting day out. Highly recommended.

We recently visited The Peace Hall and and had a really good time. This building is rather unique and its history is very interesting. There are rooms with interactive display detailing the history and former purpose of the hall as a cloth trading centre. There are lot of small shops and boutique and places to eat and drink and there are also public toilets 🚻 and lifts to gain access to the upper floors. It's central located so the shopping centre is near by too. The day we visited a film 🎥 crew was setting up to film a Marvel series with a Hollywood star apparently. If you visit Halifax definitely pop in you won't be disappointed 👍🏻🤷🏾♂️

A wonderful quirky place from yester years to visit. Very impressive place with a wonderful vibe and as ample space for everyone including wheelchair users. Wonderful small family run businesses selling everything from handmade to unique one off items such as jewellery, furniture, pictures/paintings,clothing or tea rooms. Sadly parking can be an issue but apart from this strongly recommend people visit this beautiful gem of a place.

The Piece Hall is a beautiful building. We have visited twice the first time to shop and have lunch. The shops are many and varied and cater to all tastes. We had lunch in one of the small cafes and the food was delicious. The second visit was to see George Ezra which was a great experience. It was well managed and the staff were very welcoming. It just goes to show the versatility of the space. We would definitely want to visit again in the future.

Wonderful bit of history and a good place to explore on a rainy day. Loads of fabulous independent businesses working hard and providing an array of products, food, coffee and more.
All the retailers I stopped into were accompanied by very friendly staff who were more than happy to make recommendations for the area and have plenty of lovely chit chat.
I had a very splendid wet and windy day mulching about The Piece Hall and getting to know the area better

Today, after my daughter finished her dance class, we drove to this small town that I really like, especially the piece Hall this Building where you can enjoy the tranquility and the beautiful buildings. I sat with the kids on a bench, enjoying this leisure time. As the evening approached, my daughter wanted to buy a gift for a friend, so we went to a soap store to pick a small present. Then we bought some take-out sushi before heading back to Manchester. I really enjoy taking the kids to some of the surrounding small towns to enjoy my weekends

Experienced an evening music concert at this venue. What a stunning place to visit - completely unique and such a fantastic atmosphere. All amenities covered food drinks toilets. Be aware this is a standing venue, seating is very limited in form of stone steps or a few stone benches, bringing your own seating is not allowed. Very close to train station and lots of reasonably priced parking nearby.

Wow what a venue. New one on me, but amazing open air courtyard with great amenities and amazing visibility of the stage.
With a capacity of around 5,500 it has the vibe of a small festival.
Food and drink available on site which was a nice change for a gig.
Queens of the Stone Age absolutely nailed it well.
Great venue, perfect evening

I was disappointed with the Christmas market and hall. The shops in the hall were repetitive, and there weren't many stalls. I did enjoy Halifax Minster. The poppy display was impressive, and it's worth going to look at the stained glass windows. Big queues for the toilets.

It really is worth going to. Near the railway station. Lots of independent shops selling interesting items. Great for gifts and fair prices. There is something for everyone. So much to see and some nice restaurants and nice tea shops. Go to the information centre first because they have a paper guide map and the staff are excellent. Plus there is a little museum display. Go, you really won't regret it.

A great place to visit. Car parking lots are surrounding the site with reasonable prices. Entering the hall, two aesthetically sophisticated doors come into your sight. Passing that, a spacious square will be embracing you with sunlight and breezes. On ground floors, you get various selections of places to eat and drink. However, some of the restaurants require booking in advance (such as Astronomer). We had amazing Chicken/chorizo sandwiches and soup of day at the Bakery. From first floor upwards, there are lots of stores covering jewellery, vintage shops, book stores handmade souvenirs etc. There are toilets at two corners but not a lot for women. It is also kid and dog friendly as well. Overall, we spent the whole afternoon there and it was really worth it.

Beautiful building, absolutely gorgeous and well preserved with a good little market and lots of independent shops. Be prepared to queue for toilets, but the Piece Hall is closed to central Halifax and lots of restaurants and a shopping centre, and plenty of car parks within walking distance

A lot of shops and food around to see and experience.
Some fairly similar, but some very unique.
A lovely place for a day out, the Christmas market especially was fantastic fun but extremely busy.
Blondin's diner was fantastic with a delicious choice for breakfasts or lunch. But there were multiple places to choose from.
There is a visitor center as well as staff walking around if you need assistance. There is a lot of history here, would definitely come back.

Incredible relic of Britain's textile history. Rows and rows of eclectic independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. I've not seen a concert here yet, but I hear it's one of the best outdoor venues in the North.

A stunning place for an inspiring and invigorating day out. The retail therapy is on an epic scale , especially if you like eclectic items for your home. From signed celebrity pics and items ( Tony Bellews Gloves from Creed) and antique collectibles this place has it all. This incredible selection of independent traders is so well worth the visit. On top of all that you can indulge yourself in the selection of cafes/ bars . Quick brunch and cakes or delicious lunches and beers / wines.
Make this a day out and enjoy spoiling yourself or someone special.

What a lovely place. Visited on a drizzly Sunday as a family of four with two children aged 10 and 14. Loads to look at, shops to suit everyone’s taste as well as a number of decent eateries and places to have a drink. There is pay and display roadside parking all around in the nearby area but most of them are a max stay of 2 hours. We parked on Thomas Street pay & display which was £4 for 5 hours. Literally right outside the side entrance and right by Westgate Arcade and B&M. Inside the main square there are plenty of picnics benches and space for mooching. Toilets are clean and there are lifts between floors for those that need them. I’d say access is pretty good throughout with the exception of a few small shops where a chair user would struggle. We had no issues, staff in all little independent shops were lovely especially in Blondins where we had a fabulous breakfast and some drinks. We will 100% be back to visit the bits we missed today.
Shibden Park in Halifax is a beautiful recreational area that features a boating lake, miniature train, kids' play area, and coffee shop. The park is also dog-friendly. One of the main attractions in the park is Shibden Hall, which has an outdoor stone museum showcasing shepherd huts and cattle-prevented stone walls with informative plaques. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk on the long and winding path leading up to the hall.
Absolutely brilliant park for walks, has a great kids area and they love it. Lots of parking spaces which is good.
They host funfairs and a yearly circus. Lots of places to see within. Great scenery.
They have paddling and rowing boats also which you can hire. Loads of wildlife if you like tour pictures like me.

Such a beautiful place to visit. The Hall transports you back to a bygone era, much of it instantly recognisable when/if you watch 'Gentleman Jack'. The grounds looked like they would be stunning but were covered in snow, so we didn't see them at their best, and the Folk Museum is worth a visit too.

Shibden Hall is a sight to be seen even though the day we visited fog clouded the skies. The path trailing up to the hall was long and winding yet peaceful and relaxing. The best kind of leisure walk to take with the family.
As it was December the actual hall was closed to the public however the outdoor stone museum was open. Things such as shepherd huts and cattle prevented stone walls could be seen with many informative plaques. Nonetheless overall it was a joyous and enjoyable experience .

After watching the TV series Gentleman Jack we just had to visit Shibden Hall, the home of Anne Lister. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was amazing. Its a photographers dream inside and out. Just to see simple things like her desk and papers on view was very special. Do visit if you get chance. The grounds are wonderful and pet friendly, and there is a very nice cafe inside the house. Such a lovely place to spend the day. I brought my son, who is crawling, but not walking yet. We parked in the top car park, wandered around, went on the swings and enjoyed the parkland. Will definitely be back for more walks. The only downside is the toilets, none of them fit a pram in them. The baby change has no toilet, and the disabled is locked. I was on my own so could not use the toilet.
The Bankfield Museum in Halifax is a fascinating collection of costumes, textiles, and other artifacts from all over the world. The museum has permanent displays of costume and textile collections, as well as temporary exhibitions that change regularly. The building is pleasant and the museum offers a great variety of activities for visitors including tea time.
Very pleasant museum and building. Worth checking out. The fashion exhibits, both the regular one upstairs and the special Gentleman Jack one in the main halls, are wonderful. The Shibden Hall history exhibit is great. The toy section is fun. The military and jubilee exhibits are good, if you're into that. The tea room is nice to be in but the offerings are limited, good cup of tea anyway.

Great place to visit. We just went along to see some of the costumes from Gentleman Jack but there were so many more interesting exhibits, including Mr Darcy's famous white shirt from Pride & Prejudice which had made national news just 2 months earlier for selling at auction for £25k. Plus a section dedicated to the 18th century Cragg Vale Coiners including original dies used to stamp the counterfeit coins.
The GJ section was a great little exhibition and included a video presentation from the creator, Tom Pye.
Thoroughly recommend this place, well worth a visit.

Please visit this museum! FREE ENTRY. It needs our help. It is so difficult to rate somewhere like this when there is so much more potential for the building. Not only a worthy museum (since 1887) but the former home of Edward Akroyd, a local mill owner who also built Akroydon for his employees. Maybe next time I can rate it 4 or 5 stars?

We were very pleasantly surprised at the variety and number of interesting things to see at this museum. The museum houses an amazing array of authentic, original exhibits from the 1700s onwards, in the subject areas of engines, water wheels, drilling machines, various looms, wire making, tool making, sock making and even a working toffee wrapping machine for Quality Street chocolates.
The exhibits are explained and demonstrated by very enthusiastic volunteers with a lot of expert knowledge - several were available to talk to on each floor.
There’s a lift so it’s accessible. It was an added bonus to get a cuppa in the cafe at the end. Cake was on sale too. The museum is next to the historic Piece Hall with its stunning architecture and relaxing ambience, and it’s just a stone’s throw from the train station. Highly recommended.

One of the best parts of the museum is the Quality Street wrapping machine, which, when demonstrated, wasn't even going full speed would take your fingers off if you weren't careful. Another is the looms. The noise from just one being run gave you a sense of the horrendous noise generated when 10,20, or 100 were being used at the same time. Alas, we ran out of time, but next time I visit relatives up here, I'll be sure to plan a proper visit.

great museum for the price, wish there was a little more info to go with the displays but then I guess that’s what the volunteers are for. Some more eager than others (not always in the best way).
But big props to Gerry for being very informative, but enticing and knowledgeable in a fun way. David was also great at giving the demonstrations and was again very knowledgeable.

The museum isn't funded by the local council, so there are alot of volunteers and entry fee required. Not much; about £6. The volunteers are very passionate and knowledgeable about the machinery and the history. Quite alot of the blokes seem to have a personal history with the industrial works. Very enjoyable and do recommended for those who like machinery from the 19th-20th century.

What a thrilling experience. I came across the Calderdale Industrial Museum by accident on my way to the Piece Hall. So glad I did. The knowledgeabke and warm hosts are as interesting and wonderful as the lovely exhibitions. Thank you for all your generosity and kindness.

We really enjoyed our visit here this week. It feels like a real gem of a museum...and free for children. My 5 year old daughter loved exploring the different areas and having opportunities to draw, craft, try out print making, sock making and sweet wrapping machines. The volunteers couldn't have been more helpful. They were so informed and eager to share their knowledge of different industries and great with the children. A lovely shop and cafe too. It was such a joy to stumble upon it after a walk around Piece Hall.

Lived in the area for 2 decades and visited for the first time with family recently.
The stand out feature of the museum is the volunteers!!! All of whom exuded passion and knowledge around the various aspects of the museum which brought it even more to life. Usually I'm quite happy to look around such places and keep moving, but this day we found ourself needing to leave because of our own time constraints.
Plenty of activities set up for kids in the holidays.
And a lovely set café which is worth a visit on its own if you find the main Piece Hall too busy.

This museum has the most amazing items of interest from bygone days. 4 floors to explore! Give yourself plenty of time and take a break at the cafe too! What made our visit so special was the knowledge and interest of the lovely volunteers. Always on hand to chat to you, turn a piece of machinery into something that you can relate to. You really felt looked after. We learnt so much from them and we smiled about where some of our saying come from today! So very interesting. Brilliant staff. Thank you! We will definitely be returning!

Very interesting museum, mainly about the local textile industry - extremely knowledgeable volunteers who are more than willing to engage with customers. Lovely café with good lunchtime food, made by helpful volunteers. We ran out of time as there is so much to see, so will return. Excellent for the price.

The National Children's Museum is a great place for children of all ages to have fun and learn. There are different sections for different age groups, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The cafe is small, but it's perfect for when you're hungry after exploring the museum. Parking isn't included, but there are plenty of nearby parking lots.
We recently visited Eureka and had a wonderful time. There is so much to see and do with a highly interactive element for the children to learn from. The staff are very welcoming and the cafe within the museum is really good. The 🍔 I had was above average and fairly priced. There's a well stocked gift shop prices reasonable too. There are 🚻 on all floors and lifts for those less mobile. Good thing about eureka is that you pay to go in however you get a free yearly pass so can go back as many times as you like with 12 month's. If you have children and fancy a day out I'd recommend visiting Eureka 👍🏻🤷🏾♂️😀

What an absolutely fantastic place this is. I remember going when I was young but this was the first time I have taken my kids here and they loved it. There is so much to do, we went with my 8 year old daughter who has autism and ADD, my 2 year old son and my 10 month old niece and all 3 kids enjoyed themselves and there was something to do. The only downside was that the weather wasn't great so we had to avoid the put door play bits but they looked great. We went on a Sunday and got there at 10 for when it opened and for the first hour it was relatively quiet, which was great for my kids. They had lots of interactive areas and great play areas. We booked our time slot and paid online, like you need to for most places these days, the prices were reasonable and then we found out that our tickets mean we can go back as much as we want for a whole year, we will definitely be making the most of them!
We brought a packed lunch with us, my kids love a "picnic" so I can't really be sure about how expensive the cafe is. We did pop in for a drink each and if they are an indicator I would say it is a little on the pricey side. If you have a spare hour in the morning I'd recommend doing a picnic.
I drove there as we are only 30 minutes away but if you don't have a car, Halifax train station is literally on the door step, that is not an over exaggeration, you can see the plat form from the reception. So it is excellent for transport links too.
I would recommend anyone to go for a great family day out.

Brilliant day out for the whole family, both our 3 and 1yr old had a great time with lots to do for both of them. The staff were really welcoming, and the cake in the cafe was really good too!
The real world play was a bit too busy being school holidays, but that's to be expected.
We really loved the light rooms, and exploring the body parts.

It was a really good day out with my niece. She really enjoyed herself even though most of the museum is better suited for kids younger than 10 years old. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I remember going when I was in primary school, and I'm so glad I was able to take my niece somewhere her mum and aunties had gone as children. Definitely recommend it as a day out.

It's our second visit as a family - we have a three and five year old. They love it. We typically come for around 2-3 hours but that's not for lack of things to do but more pacing our family life. You could easily spend a whole day here no problem. Although it is initially expensive - it is a year pass and one you will easily reuse if you live within an hour radius.

Incredible day out. We took out 15 month old so that he could have a fun place to have a walk around and explore without us having to say no to touching things.
Better than we could have imagined my 15 month old explored, played and had such a fun day out. He was able to get involved with lots of the exhibits. The perfect place to take a toddler and plenty to do for older kids too.
Highly recommended!

Amazing place. Educational and fun!
Most things are probably best for kids up to 12 but older kids will enjoy it too. They have a gift shop and cafe on site, the food is reasonably priced. Sand pit outside so I'd recommend taking a little bucket and spade and a towel to get little feet clean. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

We asked our daughter where her favourite place was and this was one of them!
Everything is aimed at children and will suit children of a wide range of ages. Almost everything is interactive and play based. We first visited with our daughter when she was two and she's now four and there's always been plenty for her to do and during that time activities have been updated and replaced so things don't get too tired or dated. Even our four month old enjoyed some of the more visual activities, and it's fun for adults too.
Firm favourites for our four-year-old are role playing in the M&S shop, the ball conveyer in the desert area and water play in the bathroom, it's also good fun being a post-person delivering post to different areas of the museum. Oh, and watching Archimedes take a dunk in the bath tub on the hour and half hour (which is something my husband remembers from visiting here as a child!)
Tickets last for a year which is great since there's so much to do we've never been able to see the whole museum in one day. If you don't live locally I recommend booking an early slot. We have always visited on weekends and it does get very busy especially as the day goes on, if you or your child struggle with crowds and noise it is probably better to visit in the morning.
The museum is right next to Halifax train station, and also has a large pay and display car park.
There is a cafe on-site which is a bit on the pricier side, and large indoor and outdoor picnic areas if you'd rather bring your own food.
This is a really great day out with kids and is somewhere we will continue to visit for years to come.

Great place for the kids! Not somewhere to spend all day , I am aware we came during summer holidays so was maybe extra busy but it was very hard to have a go on everything despite a few trips around the whole place. Despite missing quite a few things, we stayed around 2 hours but too be honest it was far too busy for us! The exhibitions were great for children though and even adults will learn something I’m sure, I just didn’t like queuing for each one absolutely boiling jammed packed with people just for my little boy to put clothes in a pretend washing machine 🥵! I would definitely recommend a trip here but maybe not during the peak seasons. We didn’t visit the cafe as again it was packed! Really glad to say we’ve visited finally but I wouldn’t rush back unfortunately!

Really good day out!
The workshops were fab, my son is year 6 so just on the cusp of things feeling a little young for him but he still really enjoyed himself.
Lots of interactive buttons to mash and things to do, loads more information than you could ever thoroughly absorb but definitely worth a trip if you’re thinking of going.

Pros:
1. Various sections for different kids' ages. We spent 6 hours there, did not spend time I all areas as some not suitable for below 5. Our daughters enjoyed every bit of it. Basically would need whole day to really spend time in most of the areas.
2. Friendly and helpful staff.
3. Beautiful place for family especially the kids
Cons:
1. Parking not inclusive.
2. Cafe is small compared to total visitors capacity. You have to wait a bit during lunch hour to get a table.

Visited here today with our 3 yr old and he had a brilliant time. Loads to do and interact with and plenty of space.
Really enjoyed the sparkzone and the living areas.
So easy to get to and has a huge car park. It is okay and display but not expensive (3.60 for 4 hours, with other options available). Also a short walk into the town centre if you want to go somewhere for lunch.
Would definitely visit again!

we have no car and therefore we search some place for our kid which is just next to public transport. It's perfect that it is just next to Halifax railway station.
To be honest, it is not large and is not a place for the whole day, but it does give my 6 yrs kid a nice experience. It is really good that the admission ticket is an annual pass and valid for a year, so we can visit again anytime in the upcoming year once she wants to. (Just remember it's by appointment only)
Just as the comments from others, the burger is unexpectedly good and fairly priced

Our 7 year old absolutely loved this, which meant we did too. So many interactive activities kept him busy and interested the whole day. The cafe is styled for young families so don't expect too much comfort, but it is kept scrupulously clean. The food was tasty and good value.
The staff team are really friendly and helpful. I would recommend a visit.
Machaela Heavens — Google review
We have been here for multiple visits, and my children love to go. I would say it would be entertaining for children up to age 10. Since our last visit a few years ago, it was good to see some areas of the museum updated, particularly the area with cars on the lower floor. The changing exhibition spaces also ensure there's often something new to see.
The museum can get very busy. This time we went at the end of the Christmas holidays, and it was probably the busiest I've ever seen it. Mid afternoon, the upstairs space to do with the human body was too loud and busy to enjoy properly. During term-time is a good time to visit with little ones not yet at school, but be aware that there's very often school visits to navigate around then. I'd definitely recommend arriving for opening time to make the most of the area downstairs whilst it's quiet.
There is an onsite cafe with a good selection of meals at a reasonable price. On busy days, it's worth going in before 12 if you want a table to eat at.
Tickets must be bought online in advance and are valid for a year's entry.

Fabulous interactive museum for children to learn more about bodies, sound, light and enjoy lots of role play activities. We also thought the 3 man show in the theatre was terrific. Funny, witty, informative and musically tailored to a family audience. Every member of staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The shop had reasonable prices and the whole place was perfect for a stimulating 3-4 hour visit with two 7 year olds. Parking cost £4 on top of the entrance fee but good value for a special treat.
Adrian Clargo — Google review
Fun place. Lots of things to explore. Lots to learn for the kids. Some great models and lots they can touch or play on or with. Some of the features were a bit confusing or possibly weren’t working properly where you’ve got the dark rooms with lights that you’re meant to be able to interact with.
The show was great fun the people performing in it were funny and managed to keep it going despite some unrest from some of the children.
Parking was busy so used the overflow where there was plenty of space. It’s £3.60 for 4 hours. Which you can easily do that amount of time there. Also the train station is right outside so train travel would be a good option if that’s your preference.
It’s a yearly pass so will definitely be back.

We've gone multiple times and each time is thoroughly enjoyed by my daughter. There's so much for them to do. The workshops are always fab, and the endless roleplay and educational opportunities is so rewarding for the little ones. The best place to take the little ones for a few hours.

I took my 2 and 3 year old granddaughters, they absolutely loved it. There is so much to see and do. We were there for 4 hours but couldn't easily have spent longer, will definitely go earlier next time. It is quite expensive unless you are going to take advantage of the annual pass, which we definitely will.

Absolutely beautiful traditional garden area. Everything well cared for. A joy to behold in May. I’ll visit again in June/ July as the roses should be in bloom then. The inside tropical bit was really interesting and the staff were so nice and friendly and knowledgeable.

Really lovely place if you are passionate about plants. Really lovely place even if you aren’t! Enjoyed seeing a lot of houseplants I have, growing abundantly here in the most beautiful ways. Very accessible and easy stroll around inside the greenhouses. £1 entrance is a steal. Good experience for people of all ages, many textures to see and feel, plus butterflies, fish and terrapins too!!
As a big foliage lover I was in heaven here, really beautiful green plants! I adored the ferns and the banana tree was fruiting up a storm!!

The jungle experience is ok but if your looking for butterflies, good luck. I saw one! I've seen more in my garden. However it's only £1 to get in. If your heating fails over winter, go here to keep warm.

£1 to visit and free for under threes, this was a great place to visit. Lots of tropical plants, fish, terrapins and butterflies made for a fun half hour. Not a massive place so you could easily get round it in ten minutes, but for the price you can't really complain.

We have been here twice now, don't get me wrong, it's not on tropical world (Leeds) level. But what it is, is fun, educational and local. There are plants with descriptions telling you a little about them and what decade they're from. Butterfly's flying about. Little ponds and a tortoise area, a few of them love to chill on the little bridge:)

PLEASE BE AWARE ITS CASH ONLY
£1, per person under 3s are free.
It doesn't take long to walk around good value for £1.
There are exotic flowers, a few fish ponds, terrapin ponds, butterflies , educational boards, and some dodgy looking dinosaurs.
I wouldn't visit just for this attraction but it adds to a great day out by visiting the playground and splash park

Highly recommend to visit. Ticket only £1 per person by cash. Any cards are not accepted. No toilets.

Halifax Minster, an Anglican church that dates back to Anglo-Norman times and boasts a 15th-century tower, is a beloved venue in Yorkshire. While York Minster and Ripon Cathedral are also impressive structures, visitors should make time for Halifax Minster and Bradford Cathedral. Visiting Halifax today for the first time in many, many years, Halifax Minster was on my list of places to see.
It’s a magnificent building absolutely steeped in history-in fact it is the oldest Grade 1 Listed Building in Halifax and well worth a visit.
Unfortunately my arrival coincided with the preparations for the funeral of an elderly parishioner so I didn’t linger, but I was able to take in some of the stunning stained glass and painted ceiling panels.
I did see the organ and noticed how much beautiful wood there was throughout, from the very ornate font cover to the stunning pews and elegant chairs.
The remains of Anne Lister’s gravestone (Gentleman Jack) are on display and she is buried there.
There is a lovely, welcoming atmosphere in the Minster and it is obviously well used and revered by its congregation.
I will definitely be back to explore more of the Minster.

Borough Market is a popular Halifax market that is known for its delicious food, quaint architecture and variety of stalls. The market is open every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
Willow Clothing & Accessories in the Borough Market Hall are one if the best ladies shops EVER !!! If you like your lLagenlook, vintage and / or quirky this really is the shop to visit!!!
Christine, the owner, has taken on a second unit & her vibrant displays of scarves, brollies, dresses, tops, costume jewellery etc etc shouldn't be missed regardless of the occasion you're shopping for or when you feel like treating yourself & us ladies have one of those now and again !!
I've shopped with Christine more or less since she opened as I love the Lagenlook style. Her range plus now accessorise the choice is fabulous & so many styles & sizes I really can't imagine anyone being disappointed. Her pricing is also very fair and as I've shopped in several similar shops over many years I've found her prices to be very reasonable & a good deal in comparison. I daren't say how much today's ' little treat' cost me but I've got some lovely items that I'll really enjoy wearing. Thanks to Christine and Janet, 15/10 and very much deserved, thank you x x

Wow, with attention to detail on the building. This market houses, so many delights. From the meat counter where the ham is perfect. To the vegetable stall, where the veg is fresh and enjoyable to pick. My favourite though. Is the food hall section. Where there is something for everyone. My favourite though, being a vegitarian is ' The Grain' where you're made very welcome, whilst waiting for homemade food, which is not only delicious, but carefully thought out, bringing together a fusion of flavours, that leave you very satisfied inded 😊

Visiting Halifax yesterday, Borough Market was on my list of places to visit. The building itself is impressive with several entrances and beautiful tiled walls and high ceilings. I made a poor attempt to photograph the ceiling but scaffolding blocked the view.

Wainhouse Tower, a renowned landmark tower built in 1875, is considered the world's tallest folly with 403 steps leading to the first viewing platform. Although it offers breathtaking views of Halifax from up top and is lit up at night for airplane visibility, it has been closed to the public for an extended period of time. The structure serves as a reminder of Halifax's rich history and architectural marvels but remains inaccessible due to restricted access policies.
Its quite cool to go up the tower although I don't think it's been open for a while and I don't think they will ever open it to the public anytime soon. Other than that it's pretty cool, it's got around 400 steps and you can see pretty much the whole of Halifax from up there, during the night you can see the lights on the tower from miles away. Fun fact: The lights are actually there to show aeroplanes ✈ that there is no airport in this area and this is a town and not a city.

Wainhouse Tower is an iconic landmark in Halifax, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The tower's impressive architecture and historical significance make it a must-visit attraction. However, I recommend checking the official website for opening hours and consider booking tickets in advance to ensure a smooth visit. Overall, a fantastic experience and definitely worth a visit!

A really nice landmark!
Is well lit up during the night and looks amazing as part of the town’s skyline.
Have heard that it is open to the public at certain periods of the year, but have never got the chance to visit.
Adds to the skyline when you’re walking or jogging around the local area and looks amazing!

Incredible monument with astounding views of the Calderdale Valley. The Tower's got quite a funny background story to it as well. Would love to climb to the top one day.

Ace Tower. Shame about the locked floor and closed 364 out of 365 days a year!!!!

An interesting building for sure, with history in it,the "smart signs" are very useful, the view from there is astonishing.

An interesting experience, with views over Halifax and Sowerby Bridge. The climb is not too exercising, you are allowed to take your time and there are lots of passing places and a few places to sit down.
You must buy tickets beforehand on the EventBrite site.

Website and all other sites says it opens at 10am no one there today 5/5/23. Impressive structure all the same with excellent views down the valley even at the ground level. Had a walk around the area for a couple of hours very pleasant. Tower still not open on our return.

I've been waiting for 3 years to climb this tower. The views are stunning from the top and worth every penny of the £6.13 admission charge.

Interesting historical landmark. Access is tricky if you have any mobility issues. The tower itself is rarely open to go up the spiral staircase. Adjacent to King Cross graveyard.

This is a cool tower

Very nice piece of architecture, unfortunately without access to the top for visitors on regular basis so be careful with planning your visit to this object if you wanted to see those stunning views accessible at the tower's top...
Radoslaw Wisniewski — Google review
Tall tower (around 400 steps) with ornate stonework at top with good views. Staircase is a quite narrow but not tight spiral and has ledges at window openings where you can take a rest (some with small stone seats).
Balcony at the top is quite spacious for most of the perimeter with space away from the edge.
Only open a few days a year (bank holidays in spring and summer and Father's day this year). There are a couple of higher smaller levels that are out of bounds, one by a further staircase and the top coronet by ladder.
The outside structure is attractively Illuminated at night.

Impressive chimney ,with information boards .open on certain days .stunning when lit up at night
Square Chapel Arts Centre is a restored 18th-century venue made of red bricks that hosts performing arts and has an intimate stage along with a simple bar. The art center is conveniently located just a few minutes away from the train station and next to Peace Place, making it easily accessible. The venue offers great art performances, theatre shows, and dining options along with Severn Brothers beer. Square Chapel Arts Centre was also featured in the Marvel series Secret Invasion with Samuel L Jackson.
Great art and thertre, lovly staff.,nice place to eat, and Severn brothers, beer too.
Only a few mins, away from the train station and next to peace place,
Well worth a visit and also scenes for the Marvel series Secret invasion, with Samuel L Jackson.

Despite living fairly close, this was my first visit. My wife has been before and so knew the way in. It was very quiet with only a few couples in the bar area which surprised me as it was a Saturday evening. I was told that last time my wife was here, it was packed out.
The bar selection was fantastic and many beers that I was eager to try.
We saw 2 comedians during the evening which were both great. They were doing "work in progress" shows, so not at all slick, but both very entertaining and after a couple more beers, hilarious. This was in the copper auditorium.
The toilets were a little hard to find but all in all a great night. I would recommend especially seeing new/up and coming comedians as the room we were in was rather 'intimate'.

Easy to find and very near Piece Hall Market. We visited to see a show. Every row is near because the rows only go up to 'K'. Each row is very wide so the atmosphere is very good with a nice size audience. We've seen 3 different acts here and never felt disappointed with anything. There's a bar too.

Recently reopened again. Doesn't seem to have all the facilities it had but hopefully it will in the coming months. Table and chairs outside need replacing as all have seen better days and the tables are very wonky (a beer mat won't suffice!) A good selection of beers. Weren't serving any cakes but they had coffees. Not as busy as it was previously. Didn't seem to be serving food either. I think they need to offer more to get more people in and make the outside space more appealing. The Piece Hall was buzzing on a Bank Holiday so they had the footfall just need to advertise and improve.

Visited to see Keith James (singer). Square Chapel is a beautiful Art Centre right next to Halifax Piece Hall. They serve food and alcohol and put on many delightful performances for adults and children. Staff are so welcoming and very helpful. I only have 4 stars as they don’t look after the front of the building which looks very run down with rubbish and weeds. I am sure they could get volunteers to look after this area. I have asked but got no response.

Went to the Teachrex dinosaur show with the grand son, it was great ! At the Square chapel.
Good venue, good humourous interactive dinosaurs which came amongst the audience.
All in all very good. Parking was £ 2.30 for two hours.

Been going to SC for 20 years. A quick ''well done" to the team and Calderdale Pride for hosting such a fun Pride warm-up, with Drag Queen Bingo and The Cheeky Girls. Would have preferred not sitting on the floor but, other than that, totally daft and really enjoyable.

Problem with the credit card machine at the bar as wasn't working. Requested receipt for cancelled transaction and advised no need as transaction not processed. Now find out overcharged ! Despite phone calls with promises of call back and emails being ignored had to resort to disputing charge with credit card company. Very poor service and definitely put a damper on the excellent Alfie Moore night.
Be careful if paying by credit card.

Great venue. Spacious. Used the disabled parking arrangement, which went smoothly. Welcoming. Lovely staff. Good acoustics. Wanted to eat here in the evening but not available, which was our only disappointment. Disabled friendly venue. We had plenty of wheelchair space/ lifts. Would definitely return.

The wedding on Saturday of Andrew and Jess was just amazing. The venue was just very special and unique being only the second one since refurbishment. The staff led by Mo & Adam were so helpful we cannot speak highly enough as nothing was too much trouble in making this day a long lasting memorable occassion. Another mention to a staff member,Will Brook who went over and behond the call of duty to help in anyway possible. Thank you Square Chapel and all concerned. 🏆

The Moorings is a charming British restaurant and pub that boasts an exceptional location by the canal side, providing its customers with stunning views of the canal boats and old mill buildings. The atmosphere inside is great, and although they offer typical pub menu food, it tends to be more on the stodgy side than healthy. However, the friendly staff makes up for it. Furthermore, their lunchtime dining experience offers tasty meals cooked perfectly, generous portion sizes at reasonable prices.
4 stars for atmosphere because the place was very quiet when we were there. Food was lovely, the chips were amazing. Reasonable prices. There was 3 of us and including drinks or was just over£50.

Amazing setting this pub is down on the canal side with stunning views over the canal boats moored up and the old mill buildings all around. The pub has a great atmosphere inside. Typical pub menu food wise. More stodgy selection than healthy. But a great place with good surroundings and friendly helpful staff.

Lovely pub, went for a quick bite to eat for lunch and opted for a hunters chicken wrap. The chips were home made, chunky and very nicely cooked. The wrap was nice but a little bit lacking on filling, but good none the less and good value for money too. Pint of San Miguel was decent. It was quiet when we came, service was quick and tables etc were clean. Would certainly return to check out other menu items.

I've called in a couple of times recently with dog and child as part of an afternoon walk along the canal path. They let dogs in, the staff are friendly and the cheeseburger really hits the spot. They do their own session beer as well which is very drinkable.

Table 5 has the best view in the pub across the canal. Lovely inside. Ordered some pale ale which was lovely, plus some chips which had been cooked 3 or 4 times over. Lovely atmosphere.
Popped back in March 2024. Busy Easter weekend. Food okay. Good selection of drinks.

Had a lovely meal here, food was really nice, good choices and reasonably priced, only gave 4 stars as the yorkshire wraps were a little dry and maybe could have benefitted from having gravy poured inside as well as the little jug of gravy, also my daughter had ordered the veggie option and was given a meat gravy which she hadn't realised until she had poured it onto her food. I had been given the vegetarian gravy, simple mistake as they did look similar. The staff were nice and friendly and we did enjoy our experience, we will return.

First time at Moorings.
First impressions - nice set up,very cosy. The available to watch Sport.
Drinks - Old mout Cider served with Berries nice presentation
Corona on Draught - quite disappointed with...served flat not the best.
Food - as you can see on the pictures nice presentation...tub full of variety of sauces.
Starter - Garlic Mushroom nice but not the best I've had Sauce quite sweet bit glumpy.
Mains - Steak Fajitas... Good quality meat spice of peppers & Onions very nice.
Lasagne quite dry...tasted like it might of been microwaved bit to long. OK taste. £1 extra for scoop of Chips.
Staff - lady behind the bar quite abrupt. Felt like she was rushing me for my order and just very forward. Not the best Customer service.
Man behind the bar quite polite, felt like he might of been the owner or manager as he was cleaning tables and making sure everything was OK.
Very nice bathrooms very well looked after.
In total 3*
Would go again.
Wide range of drinks at a reasonable price. Friendly staff with a warm welcome

If you're in the area, you have to check out this gem of a place; if you're a real ale lover who likes to strike out on day trips, then you're in for a treat here. If you're a real ale fan with a caravan, you might want to look even closer!
So, the first thing to talk about is the beer. 8 ales, with three (I think) that change throughout the year. All locally brewed and whilst I am happy to drink pretty much most ales, I've never had one that I've been even close to thinking are at the limits of my preferences.
They seem to have a good music game going on as well, with regular spots from local bands and musicians.
They have food on from time to time (for events,I think), but there's places locally you can grab sustenance if needed.
Whilst there are a couple of other great ale puns in the area, the range here means you probably need a huge ale appetite or a cuddle of days to check out them all.
The lounge area is of a reasonable size, with plenty of tables and chairs to please most needs, and there's enough natural light flowing in to mean it's not too dark. There's also a great beer garden to hang out in if the weather is to your liking.
The whole place appears to be wheelchair accessible, with a ramp up to the main door and toilets outside on the same level.
Staff are fab and know the beers they peddle.
But one of the best selling points of this place is its suitability for the zombie apocalypse. It would take a bit of work to secure the ground, but in this site you have an immense plot with potential for farming. The building would be easy to make secure against the incoming hordes, so all you need to worry about is food.

Dove Cottage Nursery Ltd is a top-notch plant nursery in the northern region, known for its excellent selection of perennials. The owners are highly experienced, friendly, and knowledgeable. They offer a vast assortment of healthy plants with helpful labeling. Visiting this nursery is always a delight, but it's advisable to have a general idea of what you're looking for due to the overwhelming choices available. Additionally, their own compost is reasonably priced and of great value when accessible.
Must be one of the very best plant nurseries in the North for perennials. Very experienced owners who are friendly and knowledgeable. A huge variety of healthy plants & labelling is very helpful too. Always a joy to visit. Advise to come with a basic idea of what you want, there is so much choice it's very tempting! Their own compost is great value too when available.

Probably the loveliest garden centre (nursery) I’ve ever visited. Superb customer service and what sets it apart from high street garden centres is it has ‘demo’ flower beds. Simple, and genius. Spent £200 on my first visit!

Beautifully created and crafted sculpture which serves as a fitting tribute to the fallen heroes of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment in West Yorkshire. Really nice setting with it being at the top of the incline, it looks very imposing and dramatic. Hopefully people will understand the sacrifices that have been spent down the years and we will never see another World War anymore as War is just a failure of diplomacy.

A grand and detailed memorial, not far from the historic Borough Market. The 18ft tall memorial incorporates several soldier figures spanning different eras from the regiment's history. The Halifax Ski & Snowboard Centre provides an enjoyable experience for children of varying ages, with activities such as snow tubing and pizza parties. The snow tubing is described as fantastic, with the kids loving it and lots of giggling. The staff at the centre are praised for their great service and helpfulness. The Charlie fast trax area offers delicious food including chips, veggie sticks, nachos, drinks, and ice cream.
I went today and at first, I was not so confident at skiing, having never skied before. However, after just half an hour I became a lot more confident and it felt so much better! A Skiing teacher called Alex was also really friendly all the time and had the correct pace for the lesson! 5/5!
