The Old Town of Herceg Novi is a fortified city from the medieval era, featuring numerous churches and plazas, as well as narrow stone streets and thousands of steps. Located at the entrance to Boka Kotorska and just 45km from Dubrovnik, this Montenegro port offers rich cultural and tourist attractions to visitors. The town boasts stunning architecture and friendly locals, with moderate prices for high-end cuisine and service.
Koto old town was a fabulous place, very busy when the cruise ships are in, little narrow streets full of shops, plenty to see and if feeling energetic can do the walk to the cliff top to see the ruins. Loads of eating places and some beautiful old churches here.

Dubrovnik Old Town is a beautuful place. We were there at the start of June and it wasn't as busy as we imagined/were warned. It's a beautifully preserved old town or g and magnitude and there is beauty in every.

Building work underway at the castle but good that they’re taking care of it.

A wonderful place to walk around and relax in the bars and cafes. Views from the top are breath taking and has you walk bown the steps through the allays and cobbled road's, it so delightful. Recommend the the restaurant in the square, (Kafana Pizzeria ) surprisingly prices are very reasonable for the location on drinks and food. Food is amazingly fresh and portions size you can share with two peploe, if you are on a budget. If you walk all the way down to the harbour, you can see great boats and cruise ships coming in and out of the port. Again lots of little bars and cafe to sit and see the world go by.
Great place to have a time to relax while tasting locally produced wine from the grape growing next door. This is small winery oriented to keep quality while producing around 25k bottles per year. It will be easier to get there by car as it have high slope road -- but still, if you going on foot, and have reserved tasting round there, at the end the cold water and glass of wine will taste much better than usual.

I have been traveling the world and been to a lot of wineries all over, but Castel Savina winery so far left the most incredible impression.
Such a unique location overlooking the Bay, unbelievable energy, the people who work there are extremely kind, just the overall amazing atmosphere. They also have this stunning terrace with a panoramic sea view and immaculate vibes.
I highly suggest you visit this winery, you will not make a mistake. Oh and I forgot, they have a vineyard just right above the tasting place.
Rated 5 stars as the best beach in the area. This is one of few without large stones or slabs of concrete. It's a pebble beach, so you don't need special shoes, and you can lie directly on the ground. It also has some shade and some boulders to hide amount. As with all beaches in Herceg Novi - it is small and crowded, and the water is dirty because of the boat traffic and the amount of people.
Ian Culbreth — Google review
Nice beach, though I took one star off because most people said there was sand but there is not. Water is actually kinda clean here unlike the other beaches in Herceg Novi, because there is no boat traffic and people. But beach is usually crowded during the day and there is rarely a place to sit or lay down on.
Also if you don’t like listening to kids scream, I do not recommend this beach.
Tijana — Google review
Small but a very beautiful urban beach with lovely coarse sand and azure blue waters. It's ideal for children as it offers an easy access into the water with a very gradual increase in depth. My children loved snorkeling there too. Another great thing is that it's on the sunny side of the Boka Bay where you can enjoy the sunshine until sunset.

(Translated by Google) Very nice little beach. I insist on the small one because there is very little space on the sand and we must then lie down on the rocks located on either side.
Here again (in August), it is quite difficult to find a place to hang out your towel.
However, don't be discouraged, the water is crystal clear and warm.
Children can play in the sand in complete safety as the water is not very deep.
Many fish to observe while snorkeling a few meters from the beach.
Regarding attendance, I noticed that there were fewer people during the hottest hours, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
PS: small downside regarding cleanliness, there is lots of waste between the rocks 🤬
The water was nice and clean though.

The Savina Monastery located in Montenegro boasts of three churches situated on hillsides and holds a number of religious relics, including a silver icon and frescoes. It is known for its remarkable Serbian architecture and impressive paintings. Despite visiting after closing hours at 8pm, the monastery was still open with ample parking space within the premises. The location also includes an adjacent old cemetery along with picturesque views around it.
Very pleasant little monastery. Probably not our favourite in Montenegro, but defo worth a little diversion to it if you’re in the area.
Lots of gold leaf, icons and candles as you’d expect.
Peaceful grounds and a large cemetery over various levels. A nice viewpoint from up in the hill.

Everyone coming to Herceg Novi should visit this monastery, jewel of the city. Free parking is available but there is a suggested limit of 3h for visitors. Monastery has an awesome store with wines and rakia they produce.
Visitors will experience stunning views from the upper levels of the property. There are old picnic tables and benches from stone on the left outside from the main gate. Monastery is opened for visitors every day from sunrise until sunset but the store closes at 18h during summer, 14h during winter and 12h on Sundays. Dress modestly, leave your pets at home and don't meka noise.

Serbian Savina Monastery -1030 - the Monastery dedicated to Saint Sava Serbian – city of Herzeg Novi
The church dedicated to the holy Sava- Rastko Nemanjić ( Saint Sava Serbian) was formed by a folk tradition during the first Serbian archbishop, and according to him, the monastery of Savina was given the name. Today is a parochial temple.
The oldest, Little Church, was erected in 1030. A single-breeded building, dedicated to the Dedication of the Virgin. It was rebuilt in 1565 during the time of Jeromonah Pajsija, with the help of the ktitor, and the father of Vugdraga, and was rebuilt during the time of Hercog (after the Turkish defector from 1858) and Kosach.
The Savina Monastery is located next to Herceg Novi, and it was built in a lush Mediterranean vegetation on one of the most beautiful parts of the northern Montenegrin coast. The monastery consists of three churches: the Small Temple of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Great Temple of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Temple of Saint Sava, after which the monastery was named.
The little temple of the Holy Virgin of the Blessed Virgin Mary is very small, only ten meters long and six meters wide. Most likely originates from 1030, although it is the oldest recorded in which the monastery is mentioned in 1648. His renovation began at the end of the 17th century(1694), with the arrival of refugees from the monastery of Tvrdosh (Trebinje-Herzegovina), and was completed in 1831.
In the monastery there is a large number of relics dating back to the time of Nemanjić (the relics of Jelena Nemanjić Šubić, the cross of St. Sava), including those transferred from the Tvrdoš Monastery.
St. Sava Temple is located outside the monastery complex. The Great Temple of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos was built between 1777 and 1799, and was built by master Nikola Foretic from the island of Korcula
Incredible experience, everyone who stays in Herceg Novi should visit this place and hear amazing stories from a kind guide. The entrance fee is 3 € time when you can enter is 19:15 and lasts 40-50 minutes. We visited Tito's office, very expensive bathroom from marble, bone rooms, a secret hiding place and many more interesting rooms.

It is really a beautiful place but it is enormously sad to see how the ppl don't car about it. Tito had a man who watched fishes in an aquarium to check the water quality and now they can't get a guy who's gonna clean the windows or anything else

Blast from the past: an insightful guided tour through one of the 33 villas of the former Yugoslav leader Tito. The decor is as it was in the 1970s, with regrettable signs of decay that comes with age and neglect. The tour could have been longer than 30 minutes.

Great tour at Tito’s fantastic villa. The guide speaks perfect English and shows you the most interesting parts of the building, although he tends to rush through some of the rooms. The historic waterfront fortress, Forte Mare, provides stunning vistas of both the bay and city. The top of this mighty stronghold offers breathtaking panoramic views that delight the senses. This ancient structure stands as a testament to the remarkable architectural achievements of its time while providing an excellent vantage point for visitors to take in the beauty of their surroundings. With scenic views stretching out in every direction, Forte Mare remains an impressive landmark that continues to be admired by those who visit it today.
A beautiful and secluded pebble beach with crystal-clear waters, which makes it a great spot for swimming and snorkeling. I was blown away by the beauty of the surroundings. It is well-maintained, and has a lovely bar / restaurant and several sun loungers and umbrellas available for rent. The staff were friendly. I loved it. I would highly recommend bringing swimming shoes due to the amount of stones.

The beach was okay, there is no sand contrary to what I heard. Everything there is pretty expensive. The chairs are 15€ each. Il have menu prices down below 👇. Honestly your probably better off going to some other beach . It's just more practical. The water is also a bit dirty. TL;DR it's more expensive with same/ lower quality. It's usually pretty empty though
Luka Markovic — Google review
Maybe I wont be fair but this is my experience - we came there with the speedboat and planned to stay and swim a bit - all in all max 1h. On the beach there are 2 bars. There was no option to rent beach chairs and umbrella set per hour - the policy (communicated to us with very bizzaire attitude) is to order drink in the value of 50 euros (which seemed quite excessive since we wished to swim for a bit and than have a quick coffee or some other refreshments - it was before noon and alcohol was not an option). Since we did not wish to commit for 50 euros bill to be able to use chairs for 30 minutes and since there is no place for a towel at the entire beach after our swim in what was not clean water we left.
Generally speaking the beach is upscale, nice looking chairs and all. There were very few people when we came (maybe it was too early, maybe there are much better places to visit).
Marija Kabarkapa — Google review
Excellent place, very tranquil and upscale. Access only by boat, do not try to get here by car.
Mykola Stetsenko — Google review
It would have been nice If we knew this before going there:
- The beach is packed with “sun umbrellas” and sun loungers from the restaurant. They provide the only shadow/protection from the sun. There’s almost no free space.
- If you want to use the sun umbrellas and loungers you need to consume between €25-€50 per adult. (As a reference an Spritz Aperol costs €16.)
- A very exclusive Beach.
The beach is great for swimming and kids friendly. I would give it 5 starts, but we didn’t like the part of having no other choice than having to consume to have a spot at the beach.

Kanli Kula, also known as the "Bloody Tower," is a historic fortress in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. The city is characterized by its defensive fortresses and towers, including Forte Mare from the 15th century, Spanjola from the 16th century, and Citadela or Macel along the coastline. Kanli Kula stands out as one of the most beautiful summer stages on the Adriatic.
Kanli Kula / Herceg Novi ~ Montenegro ❤️🇲🇪
Herceg~Novi is located on a significant and attractive geographical spot between the highest mountain of the Dinaric massif: Orijen (1,895 m) and the entrance to the one of the most beautiful bays in the world: The Boka-Kotor Bay ~ which is under the protection as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
Archeological findings from the Luštica peninsula and the Vranjaj cavern imply that this area was populated during the Neolithic and early Bronze Age ~ inhabitants were ancestors of serbian = slavic tribes & there is no proof that any Slavic tribes came here in 7th century (as suggested by some), that is a brutal lie and slap to the face of history not supported by facts.
Serbian/ Slavic people have lived here from the ancient times, but were called Ilyrians in modern understanding because of one of their ancient rulers named Ilija (Илија). For those in doubt, please come here and check the facts ~ don’t invent or believe in something that’s not true.
This place that already had inhabitants for centuries, became officially the town in 1382. named Sveti Stefan (Saint Stefan), by its founder: Stefan Tvrtko I Kotromanić. ~ powerful leader of Bosnia and Ras (Rasija )~ one of meny serbian territories. /please check his ancestry for more details as you will find this as a fact).
Stefan Tvrtko I Kotromanić belinged to powerful serbian dynasty of Nemanjići.
He was crowned as king in Mileševa Monastery ~ serbian orthodox monastery / located in Serbia. 🇷🇸
It is very important and significant for the history that Stefan Tvrtko I Kotromanić was by religion: orthodox, and throughout his rule many orthodox churches and temples were built for Orthodox worshipers, especially in northern Dalmatia.
The name of the town “Sveti Stefan” didn’t stick, so it was called just “Novi”.
Kanli Kula name for this Fortresses stayed from Turkish era (16th century), when it lost its original purpose and became a prison.
At those times many local people and people from this area were tortured and killed here.
The name origin of Kanli Kula is turkish and it means “The Bloody Tower” or “Bloodbath Tower”.
In 1966, it was reconstructed into one of the most beautiful summer stage on the Adriatic with over 1.000 seats and it is also an open-air amphitheater.
Events organized in Kanli Kula, among others, include world famous festivals such as: Herceg~Novi Film Festival, Guitar Art Summer Fest, The Operosa Montenegro / Opera Festival, etc.
If you are around, please visit this beautiful Fortress ~ you will enjoy In beautiful views to the Bay of Kotor and open sea of Adriatic ~ since town/city of Herceg~Novi is something very unique!
Entrance fee is really something symbolic, available for everyone ~ and you will be left to explore everything at your own peace!
My recommendation for this Fortress is:
a must visit while in Herceg~Novi ! ❤️❤️❤️

Fortress with complete walls, interactive spots around the walkway and amphitheatre with a stage. Inside the castle you can watch a movie in Serbian, English, Russian and German about the history of the city of Herceg Novi and the fortress. There is an amazing view of the Bay and the sean underneath. Many cultural manifestations are being held in the fortress, and as of 2023. there is Medieval knight festival Herceg's New Town organized by White Eagles Organization from Serbia.
There is no parking in front and toilet facilities are not the best and the cleanest. There is an entrance fee. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Herceg Novi.
