The World of Glass museum features exhibits showcasing the history of glass, as well as live demonstrations of glassblowing. Visitors can also explore the gift shop and cafe on site. The retail prices in the gift shop are affordable compared to other similar establishments. This museum offers a great opportunity to learn about the art and science behind creating glass objects, while also enjoying some refreshments and shopping for unique gifts.
I really enjoyed the experience... A great start as I didn't realise I was going to walk through the large cooling tower to enter.... It was quite incredible, looking up and taking in the red brick structure a first for me but the locals just taking it in their stride as it's also the entrance to the local library.
There's lots to take in inside... An exhibition of art, another on the far side of eclectic things including fashion..
Some beautiful bits of glass on show including the incredible glass chandelier that hung in Manchester flight terminal
There is also a lovely cafe with an outside area for sunny days, situated next to the canal
It's a bright building supporting the local community and I loved it

Great setting by the canal, extensive historic glass collection, could do with more contemporary glass. Cafe food selection quite basic. Tunnels for heat regeneration accessible, glass blowing demonstration, shop. Would gain another star with additional exhibition.

Free entry. Small charge for parking which you can pay by cash near entrance. There is a reference to payment by app is a bit confusing. Interesting exhibits especially the tunnels. Worth a visit.

We visited again just recently, it's been two years since we've been. Paid to get in the tickets are annual passes and we can go back as many times as we like for a year, we had a 4 year old and under 5's are free. We went on a Thursday after Easter Sunday about 11am and there was barely anyone there for reference.
Our 4 year old loved it all, the museum part had an Easter egg hunt, which she enjoyed finding too. She particularly enjoyed going over the glass bridge and round the tunnels.
We watch the glass blowing, she took a shine to the glass blowing guy and wanted to say hi and tell him her name afterwards. The little video afterwards was lovely and very informative.
Cafe is huge and the coffee was amazing and we had a cheeky cake which was gorgeous. It happened to be a beautiful day outside too which made it even more magical.
Thanks again for a great day, we will definitely be returning!

A great day out for the kids to learn about glass. Something for everyone, the kids were enthralled with the glass demonstration and loved exploring the tunnels. The cafe was nice with a reasonable choice of food.

We went to the Glass Museum with my son & his family visiting home from Australia, and my daughter who still lives here. We had a great time. We were all very interested in the exhibitions & enjoyed the glass blowing demonstration. The small shop is great & the prices are very reasonable. I have recently visited a place that sells the same kind of thing & the prices where extortionate.

Really good experience to watch glass being blown, and a great collection of exhibits showing glass from the Egyptians, Romans and through the centuries. Shame that the tank house and tunnels were closed so will probably visit again in a few months when the refurbishment is finished.

Pilkington‘s World of Glass is an amazing experience. Not only does it has examples of different styles and types of glass from St Helens and from around the world but also has an art gallery, a café, a mock up walk-through of street life from the Victorian era, hands-on touchy-feely exhibits, plenty of games and attractions to keep the kids amused, a picnic area by the canal, an display of actual glass blowing, and yes, even a glass museum!
The museum is free to get in, which is rare these days, but there is a small charge for the car park which is right outside and easy to get to. It all makes for a great day out for all the family.

Stunning place and is fantastic area for artists. The entrance is amazing. There's a coffee shop but we didn't go this time. Looking forward to visiting again soon

This museum is great fun. Tells the story of St Helens and the glass industry.
.
Free entry for all, on site parking (chargeable), cafe, interactive museum, galleries, and shop.
.
I've been to the museum three times and it's always been enjoyable. The upgrades to the history section with interactive spaces are a real treat.
.
The live glass show is also fantastic, but this does come with a small fee.
.
Go check it out

Overall I enjoyed my visit but have deducted a star because of the really poor service being provided in the cafe. See below
The museum is free of charge which is absolutely great given what's on offer. Parking outside is pay and display and nothing to do with the museum. I've come across better payment systems but it was ok.
Once inside we paid extra to watch a live glass blowing demonstration - check the prices on the website. This was excellent and well worth the money. The live commentary by the staff member was fun and informative. It being the school holidays there were quite a few young children/teenagers there and they were as fascinated by the process as the more mature visitors. The session ended up with a lively question and answer session.
As well as the galleries inside, it's worth crossing the bridge across the canal to visit the Victorian Furnace and Underground Tunnels.
So, a really positive experience so far but spoiled by our experience in the cafe. We'd travelled an hour or so to get there. I'd read about the cafe and always enjoy a nice coffee/cake in a museum cafe; and after an hour and a half enjoying the the museum we headed off for a brew and a bite to eat.
It was the sort of experience one unfortunately experiences increasingly in England nowadays. It didn't seem particularly busy but there were several tables which hadn't been cleared and while we tried to find somewhere to sit a rather hassled member of staff approached us and told us we'd have to wait 40 minutes for anything we ordered. I found it hard to understand why but I can only guess they were understaffed. To be fair, a visitor I spoke to on the way in told me the cafe was great, she'd been a few times, so perhaps we were just unlucky.
We spoke to a volunteer and explained that we needed somewhere to eat and they suggested trying the cafe in St Helens Market just across the road. So we went there instead. And were served immediately, a hot lunch arriving at our table shortly after.
It's a shame but it didn't spoil our overall enjoyment of our visit to the museum and I'll keep an eye out for new exhibitions here.

Glass blowing demonstrations and a museum of local history, plus a gallery of glass objects and artwork. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
David Burns — Google review
An excellent, educational & interesting half day out for the entire family - even if you aren't that interested in glass ! Displays include local history (with a reproduced Victorian cottage & shop), glass through the ages, and the chance to look at a former Victorian glass furnace - complete with tunnels. The Museum galleries are actually free to visit now (August 2023) - but you have to pay to park your car (£3.00 for 4 Hours - St Helens Central railway station is not far off) & watch the fascinating glass blowing demonstrations (£4.50 per Adult). There is a cafe onsite, offering a variety of refreshments at fairly reasonable prices (see Menu picture - just £3.0 for Breakfast food, but my companion found the soup a little bland & watery. She did, however, love the Jacket Spuds on offer !) Friendly staff, plus a well stocked Gift Shop (some smaller, cheaper glass gifts would have been nice - the average was over £15.0), completes the experience - well worth another visit !

Lovely cool settings, brilliant museum to see with plenty of memorabilia. Watching the glass blowing is a must at £6 and entitles you wander elsewhere and your ticket is valid for 12 months so you can keep going. You can look at the area concerning suction of air to help the furnace. It's brilliant. The cafe is light and airy and they serve tasty food too. We went on a weekday and wasn't busy at all. Finish off your visit with some beautifully blown glass ornaments.

Really impressive newly fit out galleries. Packed full of interactive things to do. A great glassblowing demonstration area. I didn’t realised it would also have tunnels and such a great cafe. The modern glass displays are such a good addition to a superb attraction. I will definitely be back as I didn’t get chance to do it all in depth there was so much to see!
In Carr Mill Dam, a prominent water reservoir located in North Carolina, an impressive structure has been constructed to control and store water. This reservoir serves multiple purposes such as flood prevention, water supply management, and providing recreational opportunities. The dam plays a vital role in regulating the flow of water by impeding its movement and creating a storage area behind it. Additionally, it offers various amenities for visitors to enjoy outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and picnicking.
The Totally Wicked Stadium is a contemporary sports arena that can accommodate up to 18,000 people. It serves as the home ground for the St Helens professional rugby league team, which was established in 1873. The stadium boasts excellent viewing options from the Eastern Terrace and Stand 23, while seating areas are available at around £25 per person. On chilly evenings, visitors can enjoy a decent atmosphere while sipping on beverages such as smooth bitter priced at £3.80 per pint.
From the ground comes light. Fabulous Show. It was the first time my young daughter and great niece and nephew attended the stadium. She's watched many of the games on TV that Saints play. Great opportunity to attend. They absolutely loved it. Kiosks where fairly good at getting the ques down. Was a brilliant night. Although rained we was sat row A we didn't get wet. Would like to see more events for children and for our town. ❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️

10 of us attended the Totally Wicked stadium for the cocktail and candy cane party night and what a party it was. Food was simple but very enjoyable not too much to bloat you but enough. The room was laid out beautifully with flashing lights dance floor. The DJ was great playing a mix of songs from across the decades and the live band which unfortunately I did get there name was absolutely brilliant. It was a great party atmosphere and overall a fantastic night had by all. Not sure why I’ve not given it 5 stars maybe the cost of drinks. It to be fair it’s expected these days.

Excellent stadium, clean, well sign posted and staff are lovely. Good amount of women toilets which is good compared to other venues I have been in that seem to have endless men's toilets. Only down side is drinks and food are expensive and they don't do programs anymore

I might be a bit biased because I support St Helens but it is a really good stadium and it serves its purpose. It holds around 17,000 which is a good size. The only problem I have is there is only one video screen and its quite small and in one corner of the ground, they should install at least two more video screens and a better scoreboard. Other than that it's great.

Visited when watching the who concert. The bar staff were by far the worst organised team iv seen at all sporting or music event. No clear system in place, no leadership behind the bars resulting in super super slow service and a Que that should have been completed and served in under 15 mins took nearly 70 mins to do.

The North West Museum of Road Transport is a fantastic place to visit if you are a fan of vintage vehicles. The museum boasts an extensive collection of old buses, lorries, Morris Minors and Minis. With an impressive array including Leyland Atlanteans, Bristol VRs and Dennis Dominators, this place is truly a haven for vintage vehicle enthusiasts. Visitors can also take part in a vintage bus ride around St Helens which is sure to be enjoyable for all ages.
First time visiting this museum and it was excellent. There's a variety of transport there mainly buses. Also there is a eating area and toilets. Outside is a good size car park ( upto 50 cars ) and it's free at the weekends.

Visited on a special event day, the museum is staffed by volunteers in the old bus garage near the town centre. It's got a real charm about it, lots of cars, buses, bikes and a milk float. Most exhibits have a well written and interesting bit of information about their history which gives them more life.
Recommended, but only open Sundays. Good for kids, both young and old. Come on an event day and get a free bus ride too.

Found this by accident but pleased we did.The museum is a former depot so its just as important as the collection within its walls.Surprisingly large collection of mainly local made buses which you can go on some of them.Although not from the area it was definitely a trip down memory lane.Easily spend a good couple of hours in there.Well worth a visit for any transport buff👍

We've just had a brilliant afternoon here, my son loved it, he was so excited to be able to go on several of the buses that were on show and the free bus rides around St helens were an absolute highlight for us! It was great to see how transport has changed over the years especially seeing an old Crosville double decker that my 91 year old nan has spoken about, telling us about it taking her to work in Speke in the 50's. And being able to look inside one of the buses that I fondly remember getting to widnes town with my other nan when I was young during the 90's, exactly as I remembered it.
My son also loved the police car and the man was very kind showing him how everything worked and giving him a police hat and jacket to wear!
Will definitely be back here at some point in the future!

Taylor Park is a beautiful natural area that boasts a lakefront trail, an athletic field, and two playgrounds for children. Additionally, visitors can enjoy picnic tables and refreshments at the park's cafe. The park is also perfect for dog owners as there are plenty of areas to explore while allowing them to run and play freely. It is well-maintained with numerous bins available throughout the park to dispose of any waste.
The blue lake is absolutely gorgeous and lovely to walk around. It’s not every day you see an actual blue lake!
The children’s parks (2 of them) are well equipped for the children to enjoy, plus there’s an outdoor gym for all ages.
There’s also a big field behind the lake for a sit down field picnic, or gymnastics session if you fancy it like we did (no bones broken).
There are also lots of baby ducklings and cygnets if you visit in the right months (April/May). AND, LOTS of squirrels. Which we’ve fed nuts to in the past - super cute!
Overall, highly recommend for the family on a sunny day & winter walks!
(Ice cream van there year round. I believe there is a café which I’ve heard good things of, but I’ve never been in).

It is as good as any London Park. It boasts a lovely big dog field so that friendly dogs can enjoy playing with other friendly dogs off the lead and best of all it is free. Obviously some dog owners never let their dogs off a lead for exercise so I should imagine that they stick to the paved area's, like around the lake. But if you are a disabled dog owner then it is essential to have somewhere like this place to allow your dog to exercise itself by running around free.

Disappointing doesn’t cover it! I’m so glad I was visiting an area 15 minutes away for another purpose, because I’d have been mighty fed up had I made a special trip. NOTHING to see here! I had expected to be skipping through lavender fields yet there was nothing of the sort - not even anywhere to walk the dog except a wet field (and NO lavender). I found a couple of unkempt poly tunnels hoping they’d be full of lavender but aside a few scruffy plant pots, they were all messy inside - hardly a visitor attraction! There’s a cafe, a dog accessory shop, a dog hydrotherapy pool place, a gift shop, and a vintage bicycle shop. Unless you specifically want to visit any of those shops, or they’ve got an event on, don’t go out of your way, it’s not worth it. Rubbish.

Lavender field is nice, but small. It could be much bigger and I missed that it doesn’t have any accessories for photo shooting, such as an old bicycle or a chair on the field. A welcome stop for lunch, on our 13.4 km Meander in the area. A really nice place with pleasant, helpful staff, good menu choices and quality food and drinks. A number of small shops around, worth a look as are the animals in the paddocks. A New ramp for pushchairs, prams and wheelchair access being constructed, at the time of our visit.

The area is quiet, making it ideal for kids to play in, while transport links are good with Lea Green train station in close proximity.

It made for a nice walk. It was my first visit to the actual park, although I have walked past many times. We went off the main pathway and saw the ducks. It was a nice walk and good for a stroll. I will most likely stay on the main path only next time as it enables you to walk faster, especially if the idea is exercise..
Update...
I visited it again just a few days after. The play area looks good, and while there was a little litter, it wasn't excessive. It was a Monday morning, so it probably hadn't been cleared. It would be nice if we all cleaned up after ourselves.
I think a good job is done with maintenance, but I'm a city girl and haven't been to many parks, but this one is great.

Not been for years!
Plenty of space for whatever you want to do, loads of areas for dog walking.
The outdoor gym and park areas are very well maintained but I imagine get very busy especially during school holidays.
Plenty of space for a picnic. Could do with some more toilets as the only ones are quite a trek.
There were pickpockets operating nearby the park area, three young children seemed very well drilled in attempting to shift my focus away from one of them very sneakily getting very close to me, just be wary with personal belongings.

The Church of St Mary, Lowe House, is a remarkable and awe-inspiring place for both religious and non-religious individuals. This magnificent church has played host to various events such as the Lourdes groups' reunion Mass, leaving attendees deeply impressed by its grandeur. For those with an appreciation for architecture, this church is a must-see due to its impressive and imposing structure that continues to captivate visitors even after four decades.
It is truly an amazing church.
The Lourdes groups held their reunion Mass here. I was very impressed that we all fitted and the occasion felt as though we had only been home for a week and not six.

St Helens Parish Church, also known as a Chapel of Ease, was documented in 1558 and can be found on Chapel Lane, now called Church Street. This historical place was originally part of Windle township. Recent construction near the intersection of Bridge Street and Church Street has uncovered two ancient wells and grain pounders. The church is open to visitors throughout the week, providing a welcoming environment for worship. Its rich history makes it worth exploring for anyone interested in this significant Anglican establishment.
I love these pictures as some of them are from fifty three years ago when I served in the South Arabian Campaign with the 1st Battalion Lancashire Regiment ( PWV ) I was 19years old at the time there are also pictures of Armed Forces Day in Wigan on 29/6/19

St Helens Central train station is a delightful hub located in the town center. The employees in the ticket office are well-informed about the local transportation network and are amiable towards customers. The main area serves as a waiting room for one platform, while another heated waiting room can be found on the opposite platform, featuring real-time updates of arrivals and departures on a display screen.
Reliable and clean train station with lovely staff

Update: This time it was the same person i guess and was quite nice and fast to give me the tickets, so i update the rating
Unbelievable. The lady who was working at the ticket office this morning, Catherine”, gave my mom the wrong ticket and made us lose our train, it took 15 mins to buy just two tickets because she was too busy chatting with her colleague. Despite this she also gave me a new card even though i already got one, total joke.

St Helens Central, a quaint hub in the heart of the town, offers a charming blend of modern efficiency and historical allure. Its platforms, reminiscent of a simpler era, are juxtaposed with the brisk pace of contemporary commuters. While the station’s amenities are modest, they’re overshadowed by the warm, local charm that greets each traveler. It’s less of a grand terminal and more like a friendly nod from an old friend in the world of transit.

I popped in at the weekend to book some tickets, and the lovely lady on the window, I believe her name was Cath, was absolutely spectacular. Very nice to talk to, very helpful and an absolute credit to British Rail. I hope she's there next time I need some help. Thanks :)

This station is equipped with a lift to both sides of the platforms . As a public loo, you can travel to Blackpool north on platform 1 or Liverpool lime Street on platform 2 the trainare very frequent.

At approximately 12.00 noon today we had to call at St Helens Central Station as our son had left his backpack in the waiting room on his way to Blackpool. We were very surprised and relieved to find it in the ticket office. Must say a massive thank you to the young man (sorry we didn't get his name) in the ticket office for retrieving it and keeping it safe. We very much appreciate his actions. Faith in humanity restored and 10 out of 10

Nice little station, it takes about 20 minutes from here to get to Liverpool Lime Street. I like the murals and all that, it has a waiting area down the bottom. The only con I found is sometimes they lock the toilets.

I had great help and advice from a lovely young lady at St Helen's Central this morning- way better than dealing with online tickets, thank you.

There concourse serves as a waiting room for one platform which has toilets, on the other platform there is another heated waiting room with live arrival/departure times displayed on a screen.

Siding Lane Nature Reserve is a hidden gem that offers a lovely experience for visitors. The reserve features beautiful forest areas, a large pond for duck watching and fishing, well-maintained paths that lead to the surrounding countryside, and picnic spots. It is an ideal place to explore nature and extend your adventures. Children can enjoy the different terrains and engage in imaginative play. Although photography may be limited due to other activities, it is definitely worth revisiting.
Lovely area for walking for the able bodied. Free car park. Paths throughout but can get muddy after lots of rain. Reminants of the old railway for the colliery. A few hills/steps, ideal for dog walking. Picnic area & plenty of benches available. Bring your own tea & cake 😁

In search of new places to walk I discovered this little gem, sidings lane nature reserve. At the end of a residential street there is a car park with disabled access toilet. There is a wheelchair/pram friendly path or there are paths through the trees that are steep in places. There is a big open field with picnic benches dotted around. Surrounded by trees you can still see and hear the trains rushing past now and then. The paths wander in different directions, some to the fields at the back, and other paths lead to the fishing lake. The lake is lovely and clean, full of lily pads and flowers, with dragonflies scooting about. There are little jetty areas for fishing too with a permit. The place is beautiful, full of a variety of trees, plants and mushrooms. Perfect for a dog walk, picnic or somewhere to let the kids run around with a ball.

Our dog walked into an unmarked electric fence today and got very hurt. No warnings on the fence, and the fence seemed totally unnecessary - it was around a field of old turnips!! We loved walking here but won't be back.

Nice and tranquil and not very busy. Nice fishing pond with benches which is good in hot weather as your shaded. Open grass area with picnic benches. Not very big but something different. Car park not that big but doesn't need to be as it's that quiet.

Quiet nature reserve in an old railway sidings. Walks leading to the surrounding fields, but beware of livestock. If you have a dog, keep it on a lead

Nice little walk around nature reserve. Lots of wildlife but no ducks on the lake as it was completely frozen over. Extremely windy today therefore it was really quite. Free parking, lots of woods to explore and to retreat from the ferocious wind. Worth visiting if local.

Nice walk for the dogs easy parking and fishing lake but need a permit .

Small but pretty. Unfortunately there was a ridiculous amount of dog waste along the paths. Otherwise the fishing pond had dragonflies which was lovely to see.

A bit of a hidden gem. Went for the 1st time with my family. Didn't have a lot of time to explore as went late in the afternoon. However, managed to get around 4 miles of exploring and found the reserve to be really lovely. There are forest area's, a large duck/fishing pond, picnic areas and well maintained paths that lead out to the surrounding countryside to extend your adventures. My 10 year old son loved the different terrains and playing army (he's going through a bit of a fase after studying ww1 at school). Didn't take many photos as I was too busy role playing with my lad (please excuse the lockdown hair 😆). We will definitely be visiting again.

The staff are very helpful and friendly. A good selection of books available.
The primary road in the area is Church Street, where you can find the Church Square Shopping Centre. Additionally, there is the more recent Hardshaw Centre which houses prominent retail chains. Independent stores are situated on Bridge Street, Duke Street, and Westfield Street. While the number of shops may be limited, it is still recommended to pay a visit. The glass museum located nearby offers an intriguing experience and has a charming café situated alongside the canal.
Great shopping selection, outdoors you can get anything you want, you have all known shops, you have The Range at the shopping park, you have coffee shops, gift shops for all budgets. You have great outdoors to relax. Great view of the church, great gothic architecture. You have , card galore , Costa coffee, B&M, home bargains, Jd sports, spots direct, next, h&m, nandos, McDonald's, you have everything for everyone.

I wont go here shopping anymore due to smackheads everywhere - the town center has been ruined by the YMCA and salvation army residents
John Middlehurst — Google review
Very sad area for shopping. So run down, lovely stall holders trying to make a living need support but it's really not a welcoming area, and in bad weather even less so. I believe that the council is about to demolish the Hardshaw centre, one would hope that the whole area will be regenerated. The problem is that this town centre has declined so much for so long it may be difficult to get shoppers back, but I hope so for the locals sake.

Like a bleeding ghost town now st.helens, shops shut, pubs closed down, well done to the St.helens Council for killing our town, I hope your proud of yourselves, NOT !

I don’t want to slam this place too much as it already looks like it had a good beating but it really needs some help. The entrance ways all need cleaning and painting and someone needs to come up with a plan to turn this and the whole shopping area around as it wouldn’t take too much imagination to make it a great place . It’s happening in lots of other places and a good plan with some investment would bring people back and turn it around.

I am from here anyway so you'd assume I'd be biased but even I can't save this train wreck of a town centre.
If what you are looking for is either; Coffee
Fast food
Charity shops
Pound shops
Or a pub, then you may do OK here. But if you're actually wanting to have a look round for some good stuff, then shop elsewhere.
Now, sthelens Town is going to be having a HUGE overhaul soon, so this may all change, but for now it's completely pointless coming here. For the odd shop you may find clothes in, it's just not worth it. Add into the fact you have to pay to park at this desert Plain of a shop land and its just laughable.
I will keep this updated though as it gets, hopefully, better lol

Council has lost the town centre turning it into a place many have no interest in visiting. Many empty units and no confidence in the future being brighter.
Alistair Cadel — Google review
Many of the genre of the shop's are in very similar categories with little varying product styles/options. However its evident that the local council is making an effort in attempting to develop & update this once bustling & thriving metropolis, with areas of the town centre either currently under construction or have been completed, which all completed projects are now much more contemporary and visually/aesthetically pleasing and high quality. All in all it's a good little shopping centre and you can get what you are looking for and it won't be long before we get it back to the way it used to be.

Not much at all, very few shops thanks to St Helens council letting the town go down the drain.
A real shame!

St Helens town centre - It's awful to see what was once a thriving town, reduced to a ghost town filled with empty units. The only positive for me personally, is several of the excellent pubs and restaurants ran by small independent businesses, who are doing their best. St Helens Council should be ashamed of themselves.

A nice little shopping town. Parked in the Tontine short stay car park. It needs a good lick of paint. We came out into the town by the Church Square shopping centre. A vast array of shops inside with all the usual names. A nice church in the middle which had a little fair being set up infront. Nice shops, clean area. Would visit again

Church Square Shopping Centre: A Beacon of Hope in a Town’s Retail Wasteland! Once a bustling heart of commerce, the town center faced a grim fate, with shuttered shops and forlorn streets. But now, the local authority’s valiant efforts to revive its pulse are visible. Amidst the decay, Church Square stands as a defiant symbol of rejuvenation, a testament to the town’s resilience. It’s more than a shopping hub; it’s a lifeline, a rallying cry for a community’s comeback against the retail apocalypse!

This area really needs some regeneration with it being in the heart of St Helen’s.
Was sad to see so many shops closed down or out of business.
There still is many people about but to pull more in this place needs some Cleaning up and TLC desperately.
