Fængslet is a noteworthy local history museum that provides visitors with an immersive experience of the former state penitentiary. The exhibits showcase the daily life of prisoners, their daring escapes, and other intriguing stories. With guided tours narrated by inmates, it offers great insight into the area's criminal history. Despite its interactive part being taken down due to Covid-19 restrictions, Fængslet remains a must-visit attraction for those curious about the region's past.
A great venue for seminars and events. All is well set

Big old prison with good information and activities. Prisons and the stories are depressing of course. Ample parking, playground and reception area.
Michelle McDonald — Google review
Very interesting and well done. It allows you to read about different inmates through different times.
One negative thing is that we arrived between two tour groups of elderly people who were very unwilling to let us pass. Maybe the tour guides should tell their individual parties to let people by.

We came here during the medieval festival around August every year. They made it looked it really during the medieval era. There were plays, dances and activities for visitors to try. Plenty of drinks and Foods also to taste.
Kids will definitely enjoy here ada there were many activities for them and some playgrounds.
With plenty of parking space but better to be early as it gets full after lunch already.

Must visit! Awesome history of the area's most famous criminal (wasnt that bad of a guy. A helpless romantic)

It's an interesting experience to have once in your life. The museum is well organized, but the energy there gets very heavy. You also have some entertainment like games and VR experience. The ticket costs 100 dkk.

Old jail, now museum and hotel. Museum was exciting for a 11 year old. Takes an hour. Good thing to do on a rainy day when you have nothing better to do

Amazing history museum in an old prison. It guides you through history of Danish penal system and engages you with stories of Danish criminal underground and increduble jailbreaks.

Every year the medieval festival happens there! It is just amazing, if you are at least a bit into that kind of things, its a must! Also if you are not, you will enjoy it for sure 😃

A nice stay. Extra plus for the good beds and superb bed lining. On the downside it smelled of mold in the sleeping area. The museum was a treat and the whole family enjoyed it.

Used-to-be state prison now serves as a museum while the yard hosts a number of cultural events, such as medieval / renessance fair

Very nice museum.
Great insight to prisoner daily life, escapes, ect.
Interactive part of the tour taken down due to covid-19.

Great place for koncerts. Top location and facilities.

Great if you are curious what was life in prison (recently and historically).
When I went to this museum myself, I had a blast.
When I went with my 2.5 years old son, for him it was too abstract. So just a heads-up about that.
I have loved coming here since I was a tiny kid. If industrial history interests you, this is a must see!
Frederik Worm — Google review
We had a great time. The fact that there was such a variety of exhibits and almost everything was very hands-on really kept our kids' attention. We ended up staying for almost 4 hours. There was room to have a packed lunch - indoors, too, which was particularly useful on the day of our visit. Free parking right next door was also great.

Unexpectedly great museum! It offers all kinds of historical industrial processes on site, including the households of workers, which were really great. Ranging from the 1920ies till 2000. They created exactly the atmosphere of the ages they describe. The greatest thing is that you can enter in the shops, the apartments, the machine areas and all workshops. No alarms ringing, no worries that one would steal an old Abba album! Amazing feeling to be back in those times! Very spacious outdoor area and great industrial playground. Suitable for young until early teenager age. Cafe looked good, but we did not get to enjoy it as we were absorbed in the museum one needs at least two to three hours to really enjoy it. Very much worth to visit!

A wonderful display of Danish industrial history. Everything from large working steam machines to limestone offset printing and everything in between.

Great museum to experience the past of Denmark. You can see videos and old apartments how people lived before. Back then you only had one set of clothes so on washing day you should stay in bed all day WITHOUT netflix 😃😃

Nice area near Horsens harbor and marinara showcasing factory machines from the early 1900s, workers living areas, textile industry, printing presses, shoe making, Nimbus motorbikes and an old bank. Ice cream, free parking, picnic areas and toilets available.

wow the coolest place ever, they have steamengines, diesel, generators, press machines, even stone press in action, phone history, radio and tv history, schools , workshops, and a nimbus section too, all people you meet there are super friendly and love to talk and show you stuff, much much recommended, kids under 18 are free
Thomas Scherrer — Google review
Nice museum with a lot to see. I especially liked the moving machines.
Jostein Myklebust — Google review
Interesting place. Seems on some moments as you are in smaller Old Town Aarhus.
Cool part is that they actually start some of the machines while visitors are in the museum.
Martin Heinrich — Google review
In case you visit Horsens as a foreigner, this museum is definitely worth checking out!
Eventhough, all information at the museum is in Danish, one can still see, smell, touch and taste the experience of the old Danish professions and way of living. I don't know if they do any guided tours in English, but if you pay for my intrance fee (70 DDK), I might show you around myself (if I've got time to do it). I work as an English teacher nearby, and I take my own students there once every year.
Johan Nørgaard Laursen — Google review
A very nice museum which contrary to its name showcases not only industrial era machines but also classrooms, a bank agency, a tabacco manufacturing room and more. Worth the visit!
The castle itself is private property, while lovely to look at. Its public gardens are really beautiful, and also worth a break for a picnic. You can also take a stroll through the woods and to the water front.

Semi-public park: all the work are put be volunteers. And they are doing outright amazing.

The park is not extensive, but loveable.
Large sections of Fuchsia, Roses, Medicinal/Apophrical a large section of Japanese inspired garden as well as Rhododendronng /Azalea and a handful of other perennials.
The socalled Christian IV - Oak Tree stands proud and impressive. The circumference alone makes it one of the greatest trees in Denmark.

I am from San Diego and fount this Incredible Art Museum in Horsens. While I was visiting, I was approached by a lovely knowledgeable employee. Her name was Jette. She spoke beautiful English and made my visit to the museum and Horsens wonderfully memorable. What a great asset Jette is to the Horsens Art Museum.

Nice park in the middle of the city (kinda). Lots of greenery, some attractions for kids, there's also a stage where occasional concerts happen. Overall pretty good, but nothing overly special.
Deniss Petrovs — Google review
It's a big park with a lot of things going on. If you're into Pokémon GO, this is a go to park. Or if you're into art, we have a museum of arts. During the spring, the park is full of colours, and during summer it's full of life. There is even an outdoor theater with concerts during summer. And it is really close to the center of Horsens, with approximately 10 minutes of walking to the nearest supermarket.

Vær Kirke is a stunning place of worship that boasts an exceptional location by the lake. The church and its cemetery exude beauty and are steeped in a captivating history. It features an impressive architectural design, and the priest, Gudmund, is highly acclaimed for his exemplary service. However, there have been some issues with the door lock of the toilet on numerous visits, which is concerning. It is crucial to address these maintenance concerns to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.

One line in the bill: The lock on the door to the toilet has not worked any of the times I have visited the church. Not ok - and when we were there last (17/6 '23), the toilet was pretty disgusting too.

Én streg i regningen: Låsen på døren til toilettet har ikke virket nogen af de gange, jeg har besøgt kirken. Ikke ok - og da vi var der sidst (17/6 '23), var der ret ulækkert på toilettet også.
