The Lower Vítkovice Area is a massive industrial heritage site that offers visitors a unique experience. It features tours of the furnaces, a mining museum, and concerts in an old gas container. This post-industrial location has a distinct steam punk feel and is perfect for short walks or guided tours. Children can also enjoy playing in the large playground on-site. The area also houses Bolt Tower with its cafe, which should not be missed.
A must see in Ostrava. It feels like a movie set. There are a lot of information boards. We booked the tour (250czk for 2 hours with a guided group, book online, especially on weekends) and it was very informative but we were a bit disappointed by our guide. The bolt tower is amazing but not for people who have troubles with heights, it is very open (for some people from our group it was too much and they waited on the lower floor.)
The area is large - we went for a tour, had lunch and walked around the whole area and we spent 5 hours here. Would recommend to visit when it is not raining.

The Museum of Ironmaking Technology is located in Dolní Vítkovice, on the outskirts of Ostrava, Czech Republic. This museum is part of the industrial and cultural complex of Dolní Vítkovice, which used to be one of the largest ironworks in Europe. The museum offers a fascinating insight into the history of the steel industry and ironmaking in the region, with interactive exhibits, antique machinery, and the opportunity to explore the old industrial buildings. It is a popular destination for industrial history enthusiasts and those interested in understanding the evolution of technology in steel production.
It has a Restaurant inside an old storage tank.
Great place for a music festival, very well thought through and arranged.

I wasn't sure whether it's worth visiting at night, but it definitely is. many buildings are not lit up, but some of them are creating a nice atmosphere.
It's a bit creepy when completely dark. But I didn't see anyone else despite one jogger.

Amazing industrial area! You can really feel like in the steam punk world. It's a very good place for a short walking boot you can also take a guided tour inside some of the buildings. Really recommend this place, it's really unique!
There is also building with big playground for children.

Extraordinary place. Admission is free to walk through the whole area. Admission of 150 czk for U46 building y but worth to see the exhibits there. Also an admission is charged for the tower with it's view and cafe included (it makes sense to have a reservation on crowded days, otherwise you might not be able to get in). Also good for a family visit.

For the first time I was there in 2013 having fun on Colours of Ostrava. I am impressed to this day. The area is incredible! I have visited it again in 2020 and it has again left me speechless. Definitely worth visiting. Do not hesitate to visit also Bolt Tower with their café, it's worth it!

There’s no more industrial place to visit, imo... Very steampunkish, rusty-beautiful. Whoever is responsible to make it available to see and walk around, a big thank you! Such a cool adventure to see the giant old machinery, pipes, and buildings... Awesome architecture!

Beautiful post-industrial place. We have been there during our visit of Beats 4 love, it was awesome. Highly recommend.
Ostrava Zoo is home to over 3000 animals, featuring a variety of species such as bears and elephants. The zoo also boasts a petting area and playgrounds for kids. Educational posters and activities line the trails, providing visitors with an enriching experience. The enclosures appear to prioritize the welfare of the animals, although some may benefit from more space. Visitors can purchase food and drinks at various small shops throughout the zoo's expansive grounds.
Fantastic place for spending few Hours during weekend. Great variety of animals in beautifully arranged displays and green areas. Playgrounds and shaded areas are giving a break time during sightseeing. Some restaurants and snack bars (expensive). Greatly recommend for families.

Nice zoo with a lot of animals and trees and a very big place to explore. The only bad thing was that they didn't answer to the phone and we couldn't see some animals because the zoo was under construction and they didn't say that in the entrance...Except from that the zoo was super and love the red panda's.
El — Google review
The zoo was nice and the animals were beautiful. The 3 stars rating comes more from the fact that there is a lot to walk but not a lot to see.
More importantly the enclosures for the more exotic animals were quite small and some of the animals were just alone. Like the lioness, the lion and a leopard.... All alone in small enclosures, apart from the lion who had a bit more space but still alone.
This caused them to be quite stressed in my opinion as they were pacing non-stop.
Overall great for kids first zoo experience but an adult will pick up on these not so great things.

By the opinions I've read I would think it's a very friendly zoo for animals; that theirs cages are big and spacious, well kept and tidy. Tbh I was quite disappointed with what I saw and would not visit it anymore. Nice way to spend time but if you care at least a bit about animals it's not a place you would sponsor.
Tickets are cheap, there are some coffee shops and a restaurant in there, lots of WC and an extra paid, short safari route by one of the runs.
Juka Op — Google review
It is a nice zoo to visit but it is quite small. Couldn't find some animals that were supposed to be rhere. I think due to some maintenance of their areas. Food places are not that great and it's a terribly long wait time before we were served (40min) u Pandy.

This zoo is huge, we spent 5 hours here. So much greenery, most of the time it felt as if walking in a forrest. Loved the red pandas. Would definitely recommend to visit.
Lots of playgrounds for the kids, benches and water fountains everywhere. There are also lots of zoo maps along the pathways.
You can save some time at the cashier by buying online tickets - they will scan the at the gate.
Bus 104 goes to the zoo from the center, very easy to get there also by car, they have a large parking lot (i think it is paid).
Dominika Nosková — Google review
I like this place. It seems they put the animals first as much as they can. I wish some of the animals had more space though. However I am not an expert on animal enclosures so I might be wrong about that.
There are several places for kids to play and many small shops for buying food and drinks. I also like that they have educational posters and activities along the trails.

Very nice zoo with a lot of animals. I would recommend visiting in winter cous there are less people so you have more space to explore the area.

Cheap price for a zoo of this size. Nice walk around, a lot of different animals to look at. The zoo is well decorated and has a nice atmosphere
Edgars Rutkovskis — Google review
A nice day out at the zoo with 3 kids and a baby, somewhat spoilt by the bad weather (not the zoo's fault) but the rude staff in the ticket office and the ones flying around the paths in the electric buggies (when there are small kids about).
Still we enjoyed seeing what we could and some of the animals were really exciting for the kids
Also felt you were a lot closer to them, in places, with bamboo poles used instead of perspex glass
Shaun Martin — Google review
A very nice and large zoo. Lots of trees, so the heat is not a problem. You can see here a beautiful and diverse plants and lots of animals and birds. A very good place for a weekend getaway. Ticket prices are okey. Parking at the zoo is paid.

Great place to visit: either with kids, the whole family or just by yourself. Plenty to see and to explore . One day it's not enough and I will definitely come back to see some stuff I was not able to check on my day of the visit. Apart from all the exotic animals and environment there is a playground for kids to have some fun and plenty of places to sit down and rest too. A lot of shops with food and drinks around the whole zoo. If you have never been here and you are around it is worth your time. Generally great place !

What an amazing zoo! We went in the snow and it was so beautiful. It was like we hired it for the day ourselves. Lots of amazing animals that we didn't expect to see such as hippos and leopards. Some great play areas for the kids and some food and drinks stalls and vending machines dotted around the area. The hot chocolate in the machine by the entrance was also delicious. 10/10!
Great price and a great day out!

It’s hard to go wrong with a zoo in kids’ minds. Is this one the biggest, coolest one you’ll go to? No, but my six-year-old daughter enjoyed it.
Since we went on a Thursday morning in August during peak season, admission was higher than other months. It cost 260 CZK for both of us to go. Not a bad price for a potentially all-day outing.
The zoo is spread out either long trails that go through woods. That means you’ll walk for minutes without seeing any animals.
The animals themselves are organized around houses where you can walk inside to see them or venture outside since the cages expand to the outside in most cases. They have monkeys, hippos, giraffes, birds, fish, and all the other usual suspects.
Where they stand out are the play areas throughout the zoo with the biggest playground being near the entrance.
There are enough restrooms and snack areas.
Austin Graff — Google review
In my view "garden with animals" would convey the experience which you get. Take the picking package and you will experience even more.
Brilliant spot for the whole day with friends or family. If you desire time for yourself you will also find parts of the garden quiet and private.

The Mining Museum Landek Park is a museum located in an old mining facility that offers indoor and outdoor exhibits showcasing the history of coal extraction. The museum provides tours for 1 or 2 hours, with the latter including an underground mine shaft experience. Visitors can opt for an mp3 audio guide available at cost in English, German, and Polish as the tours are conducted only in Czech. Hats are provided during the underground tour as some parts have low ceilings or beams.
Exciting place to enjoy park, historical story, underground explore and good food in a good restorant nearby. All packages are perfect to enjoy a day.

It's an old mine that was converted into museum.
We took two hours trip. First part was about how to mine in a secure way, all was in Chech so it was not too interesting. Second hour is under the ground in sort of a mine, and it's really cool. Guy was still speaking Chech, but still - so many things to see.

I mean, how cool is this?! Special thanks to Jiri Simon of OstravaInfo!!! for a dynamic informative tour.
Sooo cold. I wasnt ready to face the coldness on top. So we should move earlier than we planed. If they had extra blanket for us, we would enjoy more. But we enjoyed there.

So glad that we unplanned got there! And there are a few reasons to go the city hall.
1) building itself is nice outside and gorgeous inside!
2) modern comfortable elevator;
3) very friendly staff speaking different languages:
4) in-price guide on the top, who tells everything about the city, ask any questions, gives advices about places to see, cafes to go etc.
5) reasonable price (60 czech kron/person = 2,5 euro)
6) bird-view on the whole city!
In nice weather I would stay there for hours.

The most important tourist spot in the whole Ostrava. Located on top of a furnace which is part of retired iron smelting plant you can see parts of old equipment mixed with modern architecture. When weather is good the view provides 360 degree view of the city and you can see the tallest mountains of Beskydy and Jeseniky. Definitely must see place when visiting Ostrava. In order to access it You need to book the ticket in the information centre. You will have 1 hour for the visit. The cost is 200kc and it includes a 100kc voucher for consumption in the caffe.

The Science and Technology Centrum is a vast museum with interactive displays that are especially enjoyable for families. It is situated in the industrial area of Ostrava, providing a glimpse into the past when heavy industry was the main development focus. The modern architecture blends well with views of old-fashioned machines such as cars, sewing apparatus, and heavy equipment that visitors can touch and operate. The center has many attractions to explore, including a separate children's discovery section.
Amazing. Perfect for older kids and teenagers but also for adults. Very hands-on, very interesting. They talk a lot about ecology and sustainability and give tips what to do better in your home. Lots of attractions explain eg how electricity works. They even have a section on artificial intelligence and machine learning.
We spent 2,5 hours here, but you can easily spend more time here.
The ticket also includes entrance to the Gong gallery.
Dominika Nosková — Google review
We visited with my father, the exhibitions were just ok, many of the interactive machines were sadly out of order. The environment was badly air conditioned and it was very warm inside. The advertised checks for covid vaccinations never happened and many visitors did not use the protection - also the staff in the coffee shop didn't use mandatory face masks which was shocking, so avoid that place, at 16:30 they did not even have anything to eat and were very unfriendly. We were very disappointed, because this place has a lot of advertisements and we were looking forward to visit.

Near an old coal mine that’s now an entertainment center is a three-level science center. For myself and my six-year-old daughter to go on a Tuesday afternoon in August, it cost around 500 CZK. Here’s our experience.
1) Entrance: There are a few things to go outside the entrance and the lobby has games, a cafe, and lockers.
2) Exhibits: The first floor has special exhibits. When we went, they had a recycling exhibit up. The second floor has these pods that have interactive stations around things like metal, electricity, animals, the body, etc. The third floor has more exhibits around disabilities and cars. Most exhibits are in Czech, English, and Polish.
We spent a good hour seeing everything.

What a great place! Located in the industrial part of Ostrava, giving the great flavour of the times when heavy industry was the key development area for many countries. Science and Technology Center is located in Ostrava's district of Vítkovice, which used to be a brownfield and now is a breathtaking postindustrial area full of extraordinary and unique spots. The Center (in Czech language Velký Svět Techniky) is not a traditional museum, where you cannot touch the exhibits. Here, it's another way round. Please DO touch the exhibits. You are allowed to use various devices, apparatus and machinery to find out how things work. It's definitely a must see place for all science lovers (and not only!). The guides speak Czech, Polish and English.
The Michal mine is a former coal mine that offers several guided tours of preserved buildings from the early 1900s. It provides visitors with an opportunity to witness how life was like in the mine, as time has stood still here for many years. The tour guides are knowledgeable and passionate about their work, making it an enjoyable experience for visitors. The pricing is reasonable, making it accessible for all interested parties to explore this historical landmark.
Great place to visit. Touring only in Czech language (they have tourist guides in the form of a few printed A4 pages with descriptions in other languages, f.e. Polish, English).
Despite that, the tour guide was the nicest guy I've ever met. He tried to pass us all the information about the mine and be as close to my language (Polish) as possible so the tour was in mixed Chech-Silesian-Polish language.
In the mine you'll see everything that's above the ground. Places where miners were starting work, changing clothes, offices, machine rooms, etc. There's no going underground. The tour is so interesting and has so many things to show that 1,5 hours of trip is too short. Tickets are sold 15 mins before the trip starts but in the meantime you can eat and drink some beer in mine's restaurant. Also the toilets are very clean.
Marek Górski — Google review
Interesting place to visit and learn more about the history of the mine and Ostrava. To gain access to the buildings and see more you have to do a guided tour.
Unfortunately the guide was in the Czech language, which takes a bit away from the experience. The audio guide provides the same base info but I feel like the guide gives way more background info. It also feels like you're spending a long time per room, even though the audio tour in English sometimes only gives a few sentences of info. Hopefully in the future the country can slowly integrate a bit more of the English language to make it engaging for visitors from more countries.
Nevertheless I was impressed by the scale of the complex and all the things to see. In the end they even fired up an old steam engine.
If you want to go into a mine, that's not possible at this location, but then you should visit the Landek Park mine.

Cool place to learn something about the history of Ostrava and mining. Unfortunately the tour guide only spoke Czech. We did get an English audio tour and a document that seemed google-translated. But the English information was far less than the information the tourguide was telling. The whole tour took about 2 hours, but the audio tour maybe only one hour. So a lot of the time you're just standing around waiting for the tour guide to be done because you can't understand the language.
So wouldn't recommend the tour, but the buildings and mining equipment are really cool to see!

It was interesting to visit this mine, but the audio guide in English was not loud enough. The written guide in English was informative but stapled out of sequence and was a part of two written guides. You can't go underground, but much of it is preserved as it was the day it closed, giving an idea of what the miners did daily. The large steam engine was operated on compressed air at the end of the tour, giving a good idea of how noisy it would have been when operating on steam. The tours start every 2 hours when open.

The Ostravice is a lovely body of water located near the city center. Beautiful shopping mall with an outdoor terrace. Very looked after, modern, and has a lot of variety and fantastic eateries on the top 3rd floor (also the only place where there is a WC).
The staffs from all the shops I visited were really nice and respectful (I have lived here for about 3 years).

Giant place for shopping.
Glad they have a Raiffeisen Bank ATM there, helped me a lot

Unique design of the mall with large open area from top floor to downward levels. Mall has cinema but I did not watch anything as my time was limited. We visited the mall in the weekend, underground parking was free 😋
RADHI AL-AQEELI — Google review
The maintenance team are sloppy and mismanaged. This is what the toilets have looked like throughout the whole mall for too many years now. The Dyson hand dryer hasn’t been fixed for 2 years, causing you to waste paper towels and spend triple the cost on staff visits to the downstairs men’s toilets. There is never any soap, and if there is the soap dispenser is broken and out of use. There’s always water on the floor and around the wash basins. If you think this is acceptable and have your own toilets at home looking like this then you need a new role model. Just filthy, crude and unmaintained. Get a new maintenance manager who isn’t your best friend from school.

Big mall. Food court is recently renovated and noe it looks beautiful. Kids corner and microwave are too good for families with small kids.
Ganga restaurant (Frýdek-Místek) — Google review
Fantastic food court, great variety of shops from fancy to casual; it has 100% of what you could ever wish from a mall, and then some!

Best shopping in town. Many products, different marks, restaurants, shops. Very good. I dont put 5 stars because if you are foreigner sometimes is complicated because of the language, including in the wc
Patricia Valido M — Google review
Very interesting shopping center for the fact that each level is not stacked straight on the one below. You have a big staircase in the front and you have places where you can see the lower levels from unusual angles.

I love it, you can find everything you need in this mall

dogs are not welcome. nothing special there. Cheaper to cross the border and to shop in Poland or in any retail park near by. Stupid management rules. owner : REICO.
Halda Ema is a park featuring a 315-meter hill that offers panoramic views. The hill was created using extracted mining waste and emits hot gases. While the view from the top is breathtaking, the atmosphere can be somber during winter months. However, during spring and summer, it is a beautiful place to visit with clear skies making it an ideal spot for night photography. Overall, it's a great place to be in good weather but not as enjoyable during other times of the year.
Great workout & incredible view, especially overlooking the beautiful fall colours! A little tricky to find at first. Hope they put some English signs along the path in the near future for visitors.

In winter time is that place little bit sadness. But view is amazing. In summer with clean sky greatest place for night photo shooting. I will hope to come again.

The forest that is grown in ruins from the coal mine of the "dirty city" of Ostrava in Czech. It was a nice relaxing walk. While reaching the top one can see that the forest starts to disappear due to the heat coming from the coal and natural gas trapped inside. Also some places , we found hot gas coming out from the holes in between the stones.
Sananda Raychaudhuri — Google review
Halda Ema is a fascinating relict from the long mining era. Steep hill alive. Love her.

Nice view of the city, not hard to climb, but the full (360°) view is obstructed by the trees...

The Roman Catholic Parish of Ostrava - Moravská Ostrava
The Ostrava-Moravská Ostrava Roman Catholic Parish boasts a beautiful cathedral designed in the Renaissance style with two towering spires. The church showcases impressive stations-of-the-cross artwork and was completed in 1889. After undergoing reconstruction, the cathedral has become a serene and pleasant destination worth visiting. As the second largest Catholic church in Moravia, it is an imposing structure that rivals even the largest one situated in Velehrad.
What a nice surprise it was to see that beautiful Nativity scene in the church today, Jan 30th. And thanks so much for keeping the church decorated with those huge Christmas trees.

It's a wonderful Cathedral, huge and pretty after the reconstruction.

Got here accidentally and was surprised to see that they have something from the Jan Paweł II.

The cathedral is wonderful after reconstruction. It is a calm and nice place. Recommend to visit. This cathedral is second largest catholic church in Moravia (the largest one is in Velehrad).

It is a big and specious church located at the old city centre. Very nice architecture. It may worth to spend time in and around that.

Krásný šperk přírody nedaleko Ostravy, krásné a čisté prostředí.

I highly recommend visitors and tourists to experience a hockey game at the Ostravar Arena. Atmosphere is great thanks to the fans cheering all game long. Even if you are not a big hockey fan, you will have a good time and time flies by pretty fast. Last but not least : Czech food and beer await you during breaks.

I went to watch a game. Very nice building, very nice environment. What I didn't like is the fact that you can't take your bottle of water inside... (am I boarding a plane?) and the fact that the nice lady selling tickets, doesn't understand a word of English. If you want to host an international venue such as Eurovolley, you need some appropriate staff. The rest was OK.

The Ostrava arena is big, near to city center. More that 5,000 people can seat here. It's my guess. It maybe more or less. Cleaning and maintenance with new modern decoration is needed. It looks classic, so it would be better if refined with modern technology.

You can squize there few thousands of people. What I have been pleased is the food shops provided inside.
The most beautiful theater in Ostrava. The interior of this theater is so beautiful that it’s difficult to not be amazed. I have attended many Opera and Ballet performances in this theater and needless to say, I’m always very satisfied. Definitely recommend!
Aiden Schneider — Google review
Very beautiful theater, lot of space inside, sound was amazing inside.
There are drinks and food offered during breaks. Polite and professional staff.
The play I was on was an opera that was very fun too, has displays on both sides so you can read their speech if you want to, in Czech and English.
Nagifur — Google review
Gorgeous, tiny little theater, probably no more than 500 seats, if that many. I saw a production of A Czech opera there, and the musical and dramatic talents of the company were absolutely top notch. Subtitles were shown in Czech and English on monitors to the side of the stage. Coat check costs 5 krona, and the food and drinks during intermission were quite inexpensive. I don't speak Czech and the lady checking tickets didn't speak English, so we communicated in German.
Dale Abersold — Google review
I really enjoyed the performance (Barber of Seville). The performers engaged the audience a lot. They captured the humor of the opera. The out orchestra was excellent. I'm not an expert on opera but the singing was very good. The theatre is beautiful. The price was perfect.

An ambitious theatre with a superb repertoire. The only theatre which has staged Janacek's complete operas - their "Jenufa" was a gem, but "Osud" is also very fine. The place also has a very special Czech ambienc.

Water World Sareza (Čapkárna) is a water park that offers a range of facilities, including slides, children's pools and a wellness center with saunas and steam rooms. The outdoor pool is particularly impressive in size and is surrounded by plenty of sunbeds for sunbathing. Despite being perfect weather in June mid-week, the water park was not overcrowded.
Love the outside pool, it is really huge! In June in the middle of the week it was not crowded even though the weather was perfect. Also the place to sunbathe around is very nice, with a lot of sunbeds provided. Highly recommend!

Sauna, massages and swimming pools and water slides. Place is quite clean and refirbished recently. Still its visible its old fashioned design. During winter changing area is super hot long corridor towards swimming pool is really cold and big swimming pool itself is colder. So better to have some swimming suit with you. There is too many changes in time table all the time. And also it seems there is too many poeople doing too little and being very entitled. Had many arguments when for example I wanted to byu ticket an hour before closing. Imaginee that. any other business would end. This is sponsored by city council.
Ondrej Petyniak — Google review
The swimming pool is very good, but the place to clean your feet before entering the pool is dangerous. my husband fell there and then I fell too. even though I was careful. People said that lots of people fell down there.

Mornings the indoor swimming pool is booked for schools. Fitness small but equipped. During summer outdoor pools are open and renovated and it a pleasant place. They're sauna, massages as well.

The water temperature is a little cold, but everything else is good. There are always some customers and the slide is fun.
앙아 — Google review
The indoor areas were closed for renovation, but the outdoor area was open.
It is a welcoming place on a hot summer day, and you won't be alone. Be prepared for large crowds. Our kids liked it, and that is most important.
With the crowds there is no way of normal swimming, the place is built for playing around.
It is not so expensive and when you arrive after 16:00 you get a discount.

It was just fine. The inside areas were pretty cool, but the outside area didn't have much to offer and the food was bad. The water slides were pretty fun tho
The Silesian Ostrava Castle, a fortress that dates back to the 13th century and is characterized by its white walls, offers tours to visitors. Although it was destroyed by fire in the 19th century, it was rebuilt and continues to stand as a testament to history. Its unique architecture attracts tourists from all over the world who are interested in learning about its rich past.
Beatiful place, and it's definitely worth a visit! Place isn't big, but it's a nice look and walk around. Nice wooden figures and a mini art showcase and a random cycling display.
Edgars Rutkovskis — Google review
I can't say it is a castle, it is kind of rich family house. Museum is poorly designed, during the summer would be nice to visit with family but honestly if I knew I would not pay for the tickets despite its just 60 Kč per adult. On the other hand there is not too much things to do in Ostrava. So you may give a visit.
Y. Steven Shll — Google review
The castle was mostly gone before a massive rebuild in modern times. It is amusing to take the tram and walk though the woods and have a once round, but this is mostly a small music venue and space to exhibit quirky wooden art these days.

Castle 80czk (very small space but maybe 80 is doable)

Really lovely castle from the 13th century. The main gate is nicely restored, you can also visit the inside of the building at the castle's center. I was surprised that despite the information on the website, visiting the castle was possible in January. Ticket for an adult 60CZK, nice views from the higher parts.
