Lancaster Castle is a large and impressive castle built on Castle Hill in the city of Lancaster, England. The castle has been used as a defensive fortification for over 1,000 years and has seen many different owners and uses during that time. Today, the castle is open to the public and houses a museum as well as talks and kid's activity tours.
Visited the castle today for the 10.30am tour. The tour guide was excellent, very informative while adding a bit of humor and also engaging well with the group, will definitely be returning to see inside the cells once covid allows!

Nice way to kill a bit of time. Couldn't have picked a nicer day to go. It was glorious weather.
Being disabled I couldn't get to see much of it as it's not very disabled friendly. Well I don't suppose when this place was built it was meant to accommodate disabled people.
I do think a couple of parking bays could be allocated to the disabled as it was a nightmare getting my mobility scooter over the cobbled entrance. But once in I was fine.
There is an on site cafe which does hot cold drinks and sandwiches and things. I had a toasted sandwich which was delicious but coffee was very disappointing. It was like sludge. Couldn't drink it. Sorry just being honest.
Anyway well worth a visit to the castle. And it's free.

It was OK. I think there are better castles to go to farther away. The tour was short and it focused on the prison which isn't that exciting. I would skip it. It's free to walk around and take pics.

This castle is so rich in history and is an excellent attraction. There are guided tours which can take up to an hour, you can explore the courtrooms and prisons too.
Staff were so warm and friendly, took time to talk to us, and gave us an insight to King Charles II, the witches being trialled.
Look at the stunning photos, all free too.

Fabulous castle well worth a visit. There's a nice cafe serving quality items (recommend the maple and pecan pie) and the police museum is fascinating. The castle served as a working prison up to 2011 and each cell has been converted to share information and bring to life how it was. The main castle of course of course has a long and fascinating history. Well worth a visit.

Had a most enjoyable afternoon here at the Castle and prison. You can walk around courtyards but if you wish to enter to see rooms, prison cells or courts you have to take a guided tour. Reasonably priced and we had an enthusiastic guide full of knowledge and stories who provided an excellent tour. The cafe was lovely with interesting and tasty choices of food .

This was a fascinating castle to see firsthand, being preserved strongly to this day on highly accessible grounds! The tour guide times are listed clearly and a lady was very helpful in taking me and my friend's booking, giving me a discount because of my disability. We really enjoyed the tour that gave a true insight into the castle's history, though the areas it took us into are not photographed here since it's illegal.

The castle has a limited tour at the moment, due to a fire alarm upgrade, which is disappointing, so we took a complimentary stroll around the courtyard and outside grounds.
The grounds are impressive and the security staff are friendly as you walk up to the main entrance.
There's a cafe within the courtyard, which looked nice and a room that's open, with a display around the witch trials that took place in Lancaster, which was really interesting.
We were just disappointed that the full tour wasn't on as we were looking forward to seeing the inside of the castle.
Maybe next time.

An absolutely fascinating place! The female guide was fantastic she was so interesting and humorous. If you are near Lancaster you must visit this former Prison. Note this is still a working court so no photographs in certain parts. So much history and information. I loved my visit!

excellently preserved castle. a must to visit and a must to follow the tour. it is an unforgettable experience, especially if the tour guide is Simon. Simply enchanting. like watching a play. Congratulations.

Parking is not the best, after walking up the hill from the town centre was greeted by security men who asked if I was a professional photographer because I had a camera tripod and then advised me it would cost £600 if I was to use it.
At near 70 years old and a pensioner I was not a professional nor was willing to part with £600 to take a few pictures so after the effort it took to get up the hill from Church street, the afternoon turned out a bit of an anti-climax.
Overall felt a little more effort could have been put into showcasing the broader historical aspects of the castle.
The Spring flowers outside the Castle gate were a very nice display.

Nice visit, the tour was was good, the lady presenting the tour was really goog.
Nice cafe loved the fresh Tea leaf thought bit expensive £5.80 for two pots. But better than Tea bags, well popular by the custom usage.
Parking is a bit of a problem outside of the castle, Sunday are free but the parking metre still take the payment.

Beautiful castle, working prison still inside and access to the areas pictured are free.
You can pay for tours if you wish but we were on a flying visit.
One of the castles that still looks like one and is maintained to be so.

Guided tours limited at the moment, as Shire Hall has new fire alarms installed (June 2023) supposed to be completed later summer 23. Very interesting tour with history of the castle and visits to the prison cells.

Parts were not accessible due to fire alarm replacement but reduced price tour (which I would tecommend doing) (£6.50) for 2 adults & 2 kids was still running. Lasted about 45 minutes. Stunning architecture and very interesting place to visit. Kids loved it and grounds beautiful. Nice cafe with toilets. From the outside hard to believe it used to be a prison.

Spectacular castle steeped in history. Tour guide was excellent, with lots of knowledge about the history of the buildings and the courts. Best castle tour we've been on as a family. Also, would make excellent school trip for criminology and Sociology students.

The Lancaster Castle is a medieval castle and served as as the Lancaster prisons in the past . The famous trial of the Birmingham 6 took place here within the court house of the castle. It's a well maintained place, very neat and tidy. An outlet of the famous coffee House of Lancaster- The Atkinson tea and coffee House is situated within the castle premeises and we found it to be highly patronized. The castle is a must visit site for anyone visiting this historical Old English City of Lancaster.

Fantastic tour. The guide was really helpful, full of knowledge and full of enthusiasm. I hadn't done too much research on the castle prior to our visit, so everything was new to me and a big surprise in some places.

Brilliant thing to visit our tour guide was great very helpful very polite and told plenty about the history of the castle no need to wait to buy tickets just straight in and got sorted. Not allowed to take pictures inside most of the castle but the prison cells you can but I don't have any to hand at the moment or the cells

The prison is free to wander around and it’s worth seeing, The tour is very interesting, especially the spectacular Court Room, it really is a sight for sore eyes. Our guide was Sandra, who was so good ! Her enthusiasm and wit made it a wonderful experience. The Pendle Witch trials actually happened here.

Really interesting visit, with really knowledgeable and engaging guide. Didn't see quite everything due to power cut, but didn't feel like we'd missed out whatsoever. Fascinating history, and really interesting seeing court rooms and holding cells. As working court no photos allowed. Old priory church next door very beautiful and worth a look (photos below).
Williamson Park is a popular place for residents and visitors to relax in Lancaster. The park has lovely forest walks and views of the Lakeland mountains to the west and the Forest of Bowland to the east. There is also a cafe with coastal views.
Lovely park, well kept and clean. Plenty of space and play areas for the children. Take a look at the Aston Memorial while you're there. Loads of paths and walks to complete.

Great Park with an interesting bit of history in the memorial building that stands proudly above Lancaster. A butterfly house. A mini zoo! Two great children's play areas. Lots of lovely forest walks and open spaces too! Oh a great cafe serving good food!

Such a beautiful park with lots to do. The view from the top is incredible and the walk up the many steps of the Ashton memorial is well worth it.
There is a cafe and butterfly house to the rear of the memorial and there are several sets of swings/play areas throughout the park.
The adjoining woodland and lakes are also great to walk through and we enjoyed our visit, even though it was raining.
A stunning place.

It's an amazing place to hangout in a bright sunny day. People of all age would enjoy the place. Kids would especially love the the butterfly park along with small mammal park, reptile house and avian park.
Shrestha Bhowmik — Google review
It was good to visit and had been meaning to go for a while with my son. We were near the area and the weather was good so we headed down. It's a nice park but does need to spend some money on the over 8's play area. Very basic climbing frames and just a zip line was all there was for him. I do like that the park is on multiple levels/hills which makes it different to many others I've been to. The small mammals section I don't feel is worth the extra money

Just great! It was a sunny lovely morning.
The park is very well mantained and clean! You can walk your dog, take your childrens to the playground, have a picnic and even do exercise, all with a great view of the city!!

Great day out for a walk with family and dogs. Never went in the butterfly house, but will next time we go. Stopped off for coffee and tea. The ducks on the pond are a most to see and hear.

Plenty to do here, the mini zoo and butterfly experience is brilliant for what it is and good value for money. Cafe and gift shop nice and you can get brilliant views across to Morecambe from the higher areas of the Park. Decent sized car park that was well priced. Ashton Memorial is obviously the main attraction here and focal point.

Absolutely fantastic park in Lancaster!
Including Ashton memorial which is brilliant and it really makes you say wow each time you see it!
The park itself is fantastic and has something for everyone, lovely views over Lancaster, loads of walks, wildlife and fauna!
There's places to sit, a little lake with ducks, loads of trees that are fantastic, places to birdwatch and take the dog, a cafe with a huge menu both food and drinks, a butterfly house. It's a place we visit everytime were in Lancaster without fail, add it to your list you won't be disappointed!

It's a marvelous park and provides a nice landscape for everyone. The Forest trails caters for the climbers, the children's park caters for the kids and the vast greens caters for spending quality time with families doing picnic and stuff. And if you don't want to do anything just see the view from the Aston Memorial it's amazingly beautiful.

We enjoyed our visit to Williamson Park as there was plenty to see and do to fill the afternoon. The butterfly house and mini zoo were great! The cafe building looked a little shabby on the outside but was popular inside and the children's playground kept us entertained.
Suzannah Higham — Google review
Some serious work needs doing to bring this park up to a decent standard. On a recent walk round, I noticed the pond water encroaching onto the footpath. The pond full of rubbish. Wooden fencing either blown over or pulled down deliberately onto the footpath, causing a hazard to pedestrians. Sign posts covered in algae or moss or gawd knows what. The pebble stone path leading up to the pepper pot with loose or missing pebbles and general untidiness. I've been a regular visitor to this park for years but have never seen it in such a delapidated state. Needs money reinvesting from the Highest point festival and the Dukes open air theatre. A little love and affection from the council and it's 5* from me. I won't hold my breath though!

Something for everybody. A bit hilly but spectacular views from the cafe and monument. Mini zoo great for kids.
Loaded chips to die for in the cafe. Not best for wheelchairs.
Spent over 2 hours here.

There's always been speculation in my family that I may be related to 'the' Ashton of Lancaster, so a delight to enjoy this beautiful park (although couldn't get inside the famous 'memorial' as was closed for weddings - but great to hang out with the flutterbyes, and just means we've an excuse to head back again soon!

Lovely park with great views. Path winds through the trees, so it has easy access for pushchairs and wheelchair users, though can be hilly. Has paid parking onsite or very limited street parking. The park has a gated entrance and opening times differer depending on the season.
The park has children's play areas, cafe, and mini animal zoo with butterfly House. To enter the mini zoo costs £4per person, perfect place for families as you can easy get around it if you have limited time, 40 minutes is doable.

Lancaster Canal is a beloved destination for locals and university students, offering beautiful views and pleasant walks. It's conveniently located near the town center, providing an opportunity for picnics and leisurely strolls. The area is great for biking, hiking, and observing wildlife. In addition to nature trails leading to the Orchard, there are pubs and restaurants along the way. The canal offers diverse terrain, plant life, wildlife, and scenic views from Stainton down to Carnforth.
We love the.peace and quiet here. Lock free canal if you are starting your narrowboat experience. Gorgeous scenery

Great and easily accessed for walking and fishing.
Paths are slippy and boggy in places if wet, but this doesn't detract from being out in nature. From Stainton down to Carnforth, this canal offered such a variety of terrain, plant life, wildlife and veiws.
Food and drinks available at Longlands Pub at Tewitfield.

Wonderful place to get away from town closer to the nature. Good roads for bike rides and hiking. Lot's of wildlife too, if you pay close attention. In the summer great place also to find fresh and clean nettle for cooking. If you get tired, planty benches to get some rest or to have a picnic. Also you can turn to nature trail that will lead you to the Orchard. Will definitely recommend this walk to new visitors of Lancaster.

If you like nature and love walking the canal tow path is for you. I often walk the stretches around Lancaster, historic buildings line the canal through the city then rolling countryside and it's birds, animals and quiet out of town. There's also the odd hostelry to stop at for food and drinks.

Over 40 miles of lock free canal. Water levels are currently quite low and the section above Lancaster canal has a few narrow sections due to the reeds and low water levels.

Lancaster Brewery is a brewery in the southeast of the city that offers tours and beers brewed on site. It is popular with beer connoisseurs, who appreciate its award-winning beers. Students who visit this brewery are likely to make new friends and have a great time socialising.
We held our wedding reception at Lancaster brewery on the 13/04/24 and had around 80 guests.
It was a fabulous day and all our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been too.
The venue look stunning all set up, much nice than anticipated.
The staff were all lovely and really helpful.
I also recommend Kelly's catering as her food (Hot mexican feast) was amazing and I received lots of compliments about it.

We attended an event at the brewery, it’s a lovely place. Nice set up and a lovely inside/decoration.
There were two bar staff working, one of them obviously hated their job and the service was abysmal. We waited so long to be served at the bar the gentleman serving on the other side came over an served us as the employee who I think might have been in training as they had to be shown how to use the till blanked us. Their attitude when serving us later was appalling no smile, no words just a fed up demeanour. It’s a shame about the employee as otherwise great place!

Visited the Lancaster Brewery Tap in early April 2024. Great set up and space. Disappointed that their Cask Ales are all £4.80 a pint (except Blonde is £4.60). This is more than we generally pay for cask beers in central Manchester & Liverpool including many Brewery Taps and far more than Lancaster Brewery cask ales sell for locally. The price put us off, so we stayed for one beer instead of the planned afternoon & evening. If people are happy to pay that price then i'm sure they'd have a great time at the Tap - it had a very nice vibe & friendly staff.

Had a very agreeable afternoon out here with my good friend and confidant, Paul.
The ale was superb as was the venue. Outdoor seating area was very spacious and ergonomically sound. Although Kelly wasn't around, Kelly's kitchen pizzas were very tasty and the Diavola was spicy and scrumptious.
Beth and James behind the bar were fantastic. Very accommodating and friendly while James' knowledge was enlightening.
The only downside was the hand dryer in the toilets. Like an asthmatic with long covid and resulted in a damp shirt-tail from having to dry your hands on your behind.
All in a great afternoon away from family life.

This has been a journey I have wanted to make for sometime after first tasting the cask Blonde in a pub in Morecambe the Palatine.
The brewery is slightly hidden away at the back of a business park but well worth finding! It's a uphill walk from the railway station but an obvious advantage of down hill after a few beers & even better the brewery now have a brilliant bar at the station.
From first entering you are struck by the friendliness of the knowledgeable staff.
As you would hope the bar carries a full range of beers, as well as offering alternatives.
Outside is plenty of seating & a hut serving food mainly pizza which were delicious.
The brewery tour was expertly delivered! Very interesting & very enjoyable.
The passion for the brewery comes across and just a great place to enjoy some tremendous beer!

Brewery tour, we'll worth the trip. Our guide David was knowledgeable and entertaining. Lots of facts coming thick and fast during the 1hr tour. Full access to the whole brewing process. Quality beers and tasty pizza included. We were able to have our pizza boxed to go, which is a nice touch.
Great to learn how much effort the company puts into sustainability, hygiene and quality. You can see why the business has been a local success integrating with local community and businesses.
Spacious bar and lots of seating in the outdoor beer garden.

We had our wedding reception at Lancaster Brewery and couldn't fault the team there!
In the lead up to our wedding Gemma was brilliant in finalising details and plans for us. She went out of her way to ensure that everything we asked for was possible.
On the day itself, Matt and the team were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so flexible with what we wanted.
The venue itself has such a relaxed vibe and is perfect for hosting a wedding. All of our guests said what a great venue it was.
If we could give more than 5 stars we would and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to any future couples looking for a reception venue.
Thank you Lancaster Brewery for the best day!
The City Museum in Lancaster hosts an amazing collection of artefacts detailing the town's long history. It is a great place to learn about the region's past, and you will be amazed at what you can find inside! With its grand architecture, this historic museum is sure to impress.
This was a fascinating museum for me and my friend to visit, being welcomed by very friendly staff! Exhibits are included about the history of Lancashire, focusing on subjects like lifestyle, trade and significance. There are also ones related to the military, displaying things such as their outfits and medals. It gathered my interest heavily to see replicas of settings from the time periods showcased, which I made my way to along the beautifully chequered floor!

The Lancaster Maritime Museum is a museum dedicated to the maritime and natural history of Lancaster in North West England. The museum occupies two historic buildings on St George's Quay, one an old customs house and the other a former warehouse which has displays on the development of Morecambe Bay, the links between Lancaster and the slave trade, and Lancaster Canal.
This is a lovely museum with some history of the fishing and ship building industries in the local area, as well as a collection of very old coins and artifacts. It's very well done and quite engaging, with a film that explains some local history. The star of the show for me was the series of black and white photographs of fishermen and people from the canals. I am assured that a proper exhibition is on its way.

We arrived and surprised that we had to pay as we thought all museums were free but not council run museums. We paid and said that we would start by visiting the coffee shop only to be told it was shut due to lack of staff. Very disappointed as we checked the website before we started out and it stated cafe was open. Explained this at the reception and she said she would like her boss know. Before we could get a lift to the floor to start our visit there was a member of staff there to greet us and to open the cafe so we could have a drink and a bite to eat.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND MUCH APPRECIATED.

The Lancaster Priory Church of Saint Mary is an imposing Gothic structure dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. It is home to a rich program of choral and organ concerts, as well as some of England's oldest church stalls. The building also includes several important archaeological monuments, including a small Saxon doorway and carved choirstalls from the mid fourteenth century.
Beautiful building with loads of history. We attended a Baptism after Sunday service. Very warm reception from Church Wardens, Vicar and volunteers.

Beautiful church. I've been there at Lancaster Music Festival, where I watched Indian songs being performed and at remembrance Day there was a ceremony to pay respects to those lost in war. It's free to visit, very well preserved, and welcoming. Both times I visited there were artworks in exhibition.
At the Cafe you will find a signature of the Queen and prince Charles, also.
The grouds are also nice, with great views of the city.

This is a lovely old Church in Lancaster and well worth a look if you are nearby. It is located right beside the castle which is on top of a hill, as a lot of castles are, so you need to be reasonably fit to reach it! As you can see from my pictures, it has some impressive stained glass and an interesting looking pipe organ which I would love to hear playing.

The guided tour at the Lancaster Castle ends at the exit door which opens onto the priory Church.
Beautiful stained glass windows, high arches, a war memorial, ornate Church organ & tapestry and embroidered stations of the cross best describe this priory.
Our curious exploration or rather urge to cover most landmarks did give us a pleasant surprise.
We visited it on a Friday afternoon and revisited it the next day morning to experience the mesmerising performance of flute, obe & piano as part of the priory's coffee concert spring 2022. This is held every Saturday morning at 1030 hours. I believe one can get further details on future musical performances on their website.
There is not a lot to do in Lancaster, but if you are in this town on a Saturday morning, do not miss this.
The priory's acoustics are worth experiencing and I am hoping each concert will be as enchanting.

This is the second time I saw the kings men singing group from Cambridge university, didn’t fail to impress. Each individual has a very special voice, and being within lancaster priory the acoustics are superb. No doubt will be seeing them again. Great evening.

I had the pleasure of seeing songs of Sufjan Stevens performed by local and travelling musicians and choirs. 12 songs performed brilliantly and the Priory looking impressive.
I just wish it was better illuminated as it's a beautiful Priory church.

Beautiful place to enjoy peace, light candles, remember and pray. Lancaster Priory, formally the Priory Church of St Mary, is the Church of England parish church of the city of Lancaster, Lancashire, England. It is located near Lancaster Castle and since 1953 has been designated a Grade I listed building. I would definitely recommend visiting this wonderful Church.
Sambo's Grave, a historical landmark in Lancashire, offers a scenic walk along the county's coastline. The Lancashire Coastal Way provides several stages for rambling and exploring the area's wildlife hide and Horizon Line Centre. A highlight of this location is Sambo's resting place, which holds an interesting bit of local history amidst the beautiful setting. The area also features a fascinating road over mudflats with a suitable end-of-days feel during gloomy weather.
A must if your in the area, it was nice to see that Sambo has a lovely resting place now.

A sad but poignant reminder that the life of an enslaved young boy thousands of miles from home has not been forgotten and he mattered.
Gillian Prowse — Google review
The historical accuracy of this 'grave' is questionable, some going as far to say it's actually an elaborate hoax. Whatever the truth, it's a marvel to behold in this beautifully tranquil setting (sea storms excepted of course!)
The best route is from 'The Lane' which is clearly signposted. This route is actually following a very old bridleway lined with hawthorn trees. We went on a summer day and the amount of flies, mosquitoes and horseflies was annoying and quite threatening, so cover up and/or apply repellent! And try to ignore the plentiful rat borrows - you wouldn't catch me there at night! But every effort is DEFINITELY worth the rewards.

The picture Google shows is not Sambo's grave but an unnecessary ultra piece of work that has never worked. Its easier to stand outside amd look at the view!
Lancaster Cathedral is a beautiful catholic cathedral in Lancashire, England. Completed in 1791, the cathedral is a great example of the gothic revival style and is now one of the most iconic places in all of England. The architecture is described as solemn and elegant, making it a perfect place to worship. The cathedral has been upgraded many times over the years and currently functions as both a church and a cathedral.
beautiful stained glass and architecture

A very impressive cathedral. We attended 10.30am Sunday mass and loved the hymns accompanied by the huge organ. We'll worth a look around.

This is one of Lancaster's well known places of worship. It is one well worth looking at in all of its splendor and majesty. However as I write this review you can't visit the Cathedral as it is fenced off to the public as it is going through repair work.

The antique store GB Antiques is a vast and extensive space filled with an array of items for sale. Initially appearing small, it is in fact cavernous and offers endless treasures to explore. With free parking available outside and entry fees of 1.50 each, the store caters to every budget and taste, offering bargains galore. It's worth spending time here as there is so much to see that one may forget which areas they have already explored.
Excellent place to while away the hours if you like antique emporiums , absolutely huge , loads to look at with multiple dealers inside. Ample parking , clean modern toilets on site , lots of other businesses close by to peruse , the Traditional butchers is an absolute must visit . The scotch eggs and sausage rolls are fantastic . Cafe,s and a Brewery on site .

Got myself a brand new double bed a sette and a wardrobe set for £590 including delivery. Plus this place is huge for all kinds of antiques and modern furniture, I spent just short of 4 hours here. Well worth a day trip, plus there is a lovely butchers and a clothing store plus a brewery all in the same area. Ample car parking for free.

What a great place, at first you walk in and think there are just a few rooms with items for sale, but as you progress it is cavernous inside, so much to see, that we'd forgotten which areas we'd seen. We had a really good rake around and spent a good two and a half hours there. There's free parking outside and at the time of our going, there was an entry fee of £1.50 each to get into the building, well worth it. Bargains galore, every taste and every budget catered for. Will definitely be back.

Apsolutely love coming to GB Antiques I bought some little Nick nack ornaments which I've glued to jars that I've recycled into storage jars with pasta n rice they look cute on a kitchen surface.I also purchased a cow creamer jug I've always wanted one this one was only £5, it was really dirty I've cleaned it up it looks lovely next to my jars.

Great to potter around and plenty to look at. We enjoyed a couple of hours there and spent some money. I'll visit again but would say Bygone Times further south in Lancs is slightly better for choice, having a cafe, and loos.

First time here and loved it. Free parking and just £1.50 to get in. It's certainly the largest antique fare that I have ever been to. Some fabulous stall within.
All staff superb and so helpful.
Will definitely go again in the future.

Great place to find MCM glass, and antique vintage glass. Massive selection from many dealers. So much to choose from. Picked some great pieces of MCM glass at really good prices. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

We go here probably a few times a year. Lots of interesting things. Varying in age and condition. It's like a time warp. The Factory Outlet shop has some very reasonably priced designer clothes also household and garden items. There is a pub on site and a restaurant although the restaurant is only open at weekends which is unfortunate. Parking is free and accessible. Entry to the antique centre is under a couple of pound. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been before.

I love this warehouse of wonders. I'm slowly kitting out my whole house with really good quality furniture at very affordable prices. You can spend hours browsing and if there's anything at all you need, you'll find it here. We even picked up some free chairs this time to go with a lovely £15 table. The staff are always really helpful too.

This is a what could be called an "Antique Court" - many antique stalls under one roof, each stall selling particular type of items or pieces. One needs to spend hours and would certainly unearth Very rare and a bargain is guaranteed. On the whole a Nice place to visit . The drawback we noticed was some of the items bad gathered dust and dirt maybe by just lying there for Long time.
Dr.Rizvie Salih — Google review
Always interesting, as you never know what you're going to see! There's a small entrance fee, lots of parking and possibly hundreds of stalls. Some better than others, and some quite a bit pricier than others but honestly, there's probably something for everyone here.
It's a big, draughty warehouse setup, but well worth the time to mooch.

Well worth a look inside, you'll be surprised how much stuff you remember when you're looking through the stuff, there is literally something for everyone, go have a look, bought several items , not antiques but were great value for the money

Loads of the expected stuff as well as some unexpected gems. Vintage clothing alongside nana's tea set just up from super modern bespoke furniture is just some of what I saw. The place is huge so worth coming in the week to avoid the weekend folk. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy parking. Definite bargains to be had.
Salt Ayre Leisure Centre has a wide range of group sports sessions available, as well as personal training and gym access. It is well-maintained and clean, with friendly staff. The leisure centre is popular with locals and visitors alike for its great variety of activities.
Spa - recovering from an operation and decided to go for a spa sauna day with my partner, will recommend it to anyone. The staff where excellent and the place is well maintained and clean. The sauna experience was well worth the money and we will be returning very soon. Thanks for a great experience.

My return to a gym post covid. After 2.5 years away it was good to get back in a gym and Salt Ayre is my local council run leasure centre. Newly equipped and good facilities including a comfy cafe for after exercise drink. What's not to like

Great indoor play area for children. My 4 and 2 year old grandchildren had a brilliant time. You don’t need to book in the week just turn up which was a bonus. Plenty of choice on the food menu but
I do think with it being a health and fitness centre they could have served better quality sausage. Don’t know what was put on there plate but it was inedible ( shame )

A great gym! Facilities are in great condition, always cleaned and taken care of. Staff is absolutely lovely and there are many classes to choose from. I highly recommend this gym! It has motivated me going to the gym more frequently!

A great all round leisure centre with excellent facilities. The range of classes is brilliant catering to all needs. The cafe has some good food options at a fair price. The immersive spin room is well equipped and provides a fantastic workout exposure. The gym has everything you need though it is smaller than your purpose gyms (like JD Gyms). The spa has a good variety of treatments too.

It was my son's Birthday today and would just like to say thank you to the young girl who organised everything for us. It was great to arrive and be made to feel relaxed, offered drinks and well looked after! Great service and definitely one of the best indoor play areas 👏
scklewis — Google review
Oh dear! Took my just turned 12 months grandson to the soft play area at Salt Ayre. It is £5 for all ages even those that cannot walk or climb or use the majority of the facilities. LCC, if you are going to charge the same price for a baby barely using the equipment because they haven’t even got the physical capabilities then you should provide equal equipment? Some foam, plastic covered shapes on some padding is poor value, especially when all the other paying customers have far more to enjoy for their money.
Do not recommend unless your child is at an age where they can run around, climb and use the very big slides, it is then good value for money. However, there is nothing suitable here for your small toddler!
sheri giles — Google review
I've been going here 3 to 5 times a week since I joined in June and I love it. There are many class options to keep you interested with the bonus of using the gym or pool as well. The spin classes are my favourite as I love the video wall and the fantastic instructors make the whole experience even more enjoyable.
Graham Dodgson — Google review
Brilliant range of facilities here, we mostly utilise the soft play, climbing wall and swimming.
The swimming pool has one large 25m pool, smaller pool and there is a slide.
The changing rooms at the swimming pool can be hit and miss with cleanliness though and therefore falling short of five stars.

Jennifer McCaffery — Google review
I'm very disappointed with the way Salt Ayre has turned out after many years of using them.
It's way to populated!!
People queue up in the morning from 5:45am in fear they won't get to use the equipment. If you don't get there very early, you'll miss out on what you want to use.
This means you either have to either have to:
1) Rush upstairs to use the equipment before someone else does
2) Miss out because the gym is too full once you want to use something else
In the evening it is absolutely packed with groups who stand around the machines.
There should be a limit on how many people they can accept into the gym because it's ruined the experience for long term customers an I'm not the only customer who feels this way.
I'm not wasting any more money to rush around like an idiot on something i can barely get any benefit from.
This needs to be assessed before more people leave.

I have visited Salt Ayre for many years and I've seen positive changes in the layout and updates to facilities. There is a good social side to visits. I have attended Zumba, Zumba Gold, Aqua Fitness, Step, Shabam, Body Jam and AB Circuits. The variety of group sessions with access to the gym, is fantastic from early morning to later evening, seven days a week. A wide choice of memberships or 'pay as you go' sessions. Staff and everybody who attends is very friendly. One of my favourite places to be 🤸♀️

Overall we'd return to visit
We often visit the cafe,
Play center and swimming.
The cafe has a fab selection of food and refreshments.
The staff throughout the complex are very professional and helpful, although we have to include that on some visits we've been greeted and tended to by an uninterested staff member when arriving, but people all have bad days at times and not every welcome always needs a smile and some eye contact.
The play center can get a little crowed but the children don't mind and as long as their having fun that's the main thing.
The pool hasn't changed much over the years, we used to visit when we were younger and loved using the slide, we see it's not open much, but have never questioned why.
The jacuzzi is cold but the main pool is warm. The children are allowed to help themselves to floats to play with which they love.. adds an extra aspect of fun.
There is unfortunately one thing we have all found when we do on the odd occasion go swimming.
The floors in the changing facilities in the pool on most of the visits are dirty. Understandably it's more than inevitable because of the heavy traffic of wet feet and shoes/trainers,
But if someone could try and clean it periodically so that people don't have to walk through brown sludgy water on the floors after having a shower, it's rather displeasing.
R_D_L — Google review
Went at the weekend (9th July 2023) with my two young sons (5 & 3). It was not suitable for this age group. The pool was too cold, my 3 year old had blue lips within 5 minutes. We tried the jacuzzi in the hope of warming up but the air was even colder during the walk and the jacuzzi was no warmer. They actually had the doors to outside open so cold air was blowing in.
My youngest clung to me for warmth for another 15 minutes before I decided to get him out while my mum stayed in with my eldest.
The air was really cold in the pool area and changing room so we were looking forward to warming up in the shower but they were absolutely freezing and did not warm up. By this time my son was crying due to being so cold. I got him dressed as quick as possible whilst I could hear so many other children crying too.
I put him in as many borrowed extra layers as we had and then had him in a hot car. It took over an hour for his lips to lose the blue colour amd his hands to feel warm again!
I don't understand how they can think this is acceptable for small children, it's actually quite dangerous and would not take them again.
The showers definitely did not get hot as after getting him dressed I did brave them and wash my hair, they were cold throughout, not even tepid.
The pool itself seemed nice but they really need to sort out the temperature situation. A young baby could easily get hypothermia at this pool.
Clare Holden — Google review
Love the tranquil spa thermal journey! Usually have a swim first...sadly the pool was entirely given over to a giant inflatables session for half term .... typical school holidays! Kids before members!
Thermal journey is very therapeutic but could do with a deep clean and basic routine maintenance bring carried out!
Juli Scanlan — Google review
Friendly, helpful staff. We booked to use the climbing wall. Climbing instructors very observant and quick to move kids on to their next climb so no wasted time waiting around. They also closed and opened the two bigger climbing activities to move kids through and maintain interest.
Chris R — Google review
I go every week and enjoy the swim but have recently seen a decline inspite of new showers and hair dryers.
One of the dryers is quite often out of order.
All the lockers are a disgrace and need renewing - half of them are broken or have bits broken off.
One toilet door in the ladies has been broken for years.
Both spinners for costumes have been removed and I believe not being replaced.
Floors are not very clean either.
But still they put the prices up. Disappointing.
I complained last year about some men in showers shoving their hands down their trunks to wash their bits -not a pretty site- I was told by text that this would be looked into.
I had hoped someone might put a sign up asking them to show respect for the fact that there are women in the showers too but nothing.
So if I could go somewhere else to swim near by I probably would.

Great leisure centre. We never went swimming. Went in soft play! Children loved it. Burnt off energy in there. Large soft play area. Up to 12years so that was good. Children also enjoyed different wall climbing activities including a task to do it blind folded!!! All harnessed!!! So perfectly safe. Nice café there . With good coffee and food. Staff very good . One to one ratio on climbing walls. Friendly and attentive. Parking. Also outside activities. Yes good place.

Lovely spaced comfortable cafe that is full of sunlight. We look out into the garden with its seasonal plants and space to wander around. The drinks and snacks range is good.
The site owners should commit to repairing the entrance road, currently more potholes than level road for the first 20 metres.

Lovely garden centre and cafe, however if you intend to walk to the garden centre, either from condor green or along lune estuary path it is worth noting there are no pedestrian footpath along A588 and it is a busy road, quite dangerous for pedestrians. Use the car or bus, be safe.

Breakfast in the cafe was terrible. Cold toast and out of 2 just 1 buttered found this a bit strange. Cumberland sausage bland and not browned. At 6.95 each poor standards. We love this place. Regularly buy plants and gifts.
The food here is always so delicious and we eat here quite a lot.
However, today during a busy lunchtime, we were lucky to find 1 low table available.
I ordered our lunch and sat back to enjoy the ambience.
Over in the far right hand corner, we were disgusted to see a lady knitting and both of her feet were on the table. Boots off, thankfully.
My partner stated that they were on the chair at first.
We both mentioned how unacceptable this was, to the 2 waitresses. They just nodded and did nothing.
2 elderly ladies who were sitting on the table next to her, remarked about this as they passed by. They too thought it unacceptable.
My partner asked to speak to the Manager, but was told he/she was busy.
Again we complained and was then told that the lady had hurt her ankle.
OK. Then she should have kept them on the chair.
The waitress did then go and tell her to put them back on the chair.
How unhygienic to put them on the table. It really was disgusting. She left before us, but continued to walk round the centre.....wasn't that sore then!!!!!!
I do think the staff should have been more helpful and should have ensured she had 1 sore ankle on a chair, not 2 on the table.
Shame on her.

Went for brunch this morning. . extremely cold in the room .. no heating on,, everyone sat with coats on. Asked about heating and the lady didn’t think the underfloor heating was on but did not offer to do anything .. we’d ordered eggs Benedict on muffins and waited ages, when it did arrive both mine and my husbands muffins where so hard we couldn’t cut through them. Think they must have been microwaved to get that hard..took both plates back to the counter and had to wait ages again to get replacements..we had both obviously finished our coffees and we received no offer of any sort of refund or at least would have been nice to have been offered second coffees whilst we waited..will not be returning any time soon ..

Rude unhelpful pathetic service in the cafe.
If they decide that they are stopping food service at 2pm including sandwiches then perhaps they should make it known so people aren't messed about. Apparently the kitchen needed cleaning but we could have cake. Unbelievable. Get a grip. It was 10 minutes to 2 in any event. Bending over backwards to be unhelpful. AVOID

This is our new favourite place to eat:
Lovely setting and really nice sunbathed dining area - with floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the outdoor plants, that are set in a walled garden.
There are wide choices of vegetarian food - there’s gluten free and vegan too, they seem very ingredient conscious.
The main thing though is that the food is delicious - lovely place and great food. Fantastic 😊
The museum is a small house with five levels, preserved as an 18th-century cottage to show what life was like for an ordinary artisan. There is no furniture in the rooms, only simple furnishings from the period to represent the spartan existence of the working families who lived here.
Lovely little museum just opposite Lancaster Castle, entrance is £1.
The place shows how home life was for the not so wealthy people in Victorian England, they showcase original pieces of furniture and they've reconstructed it to seem live in.
Definitely worth a visit if passing by, especially with kids.

On a visit to Lancaster Castle we happened upon this stunning little museum just across from the castle. The minimal £1 entry fee was just too much of a bargain not to take advantage of.
This lovingly restored 300 year old cottage was a real insight into how people lived in the victorian era. It really took you back in time and gave a real feel of how people lived.
Any questions we had were answered by the passionate and knowledgeable man who welcomed us.
I would recommend this truly educational delight to anyone visiting Lancaster.
A real treasure.

A great little stop on your way around historic lancaster, especially alongside the judges lodgings! For just £1 you can see how the less well off made a life for themselves and for a further small fee, compare it to the extravagance of the wealthy judges home.
Giggles Play & Adventure is a great place for families to visit during the school holidays. The venue is very clean, has plenty of equipment for children to have fun on, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is also good value for money, and there are gluten free options available. Parking is available nearby.

Great place for the kids!! Very very clean, spotless in fact! Prices are reasonable too!
They do an espresso sized hot chocolate and a muffin for £1.50 for kids which is good!
Unfortunately lost a star as the men's toilets were very smelly (spotlessly clean, but just stank) and the hot taps were steaming hot with no warning for users (even the low sink for children) in both men's and women's toilets.
Thank you for a great visit

We love the new play sessions; it used to get really busy to he point of being too full. Now, it's much more controlled and calmer. Booking is recommended as walk-ins can't be guaranteed.
Perfect for kids' parties. Giggles hosted our 5 year old's party. They do everything excluding the cake.
Clean, safe, spacious, reasonably priced and helpful staff.

I don’t often write reviews, but I particularly want to praise the young man that works here. (I don’t know his name, tall, thin and blonde. ) I usually go to giggles with my granddaughter who has special needs and this young man is always so kind and thoughtful to her.
Everything and everybody else is good too, the place is clean and feels very safe.

Giggles has always been excellent over several years of visits as my children have grown. The venue is always very clean, which is not always the case at soft play! The parties are extremely well organised and staff are always very helpful, professional and kind. We have not had a single bad experience here, and feel very fortunate to have this on the doorstep. A truly great local business.

Open, airy, clean, plenty of fun to be found in the equipment.
Food excellent and with gluten free options available!
Highly recommended.
Parking available right by the door.

Lots of fun for my toddler! There are a few indoor playgrounds, an enclosed trampoline, and lots of different play areas. I do wish they had more toys available in the different areas (for example, there are barely any “food” in the kitchen and no groceries in the “store” for grocery shopping). For this reason, I’m going to knock 2 stars off. It has the potential to be greater than it is. We have been to all of the available indoor play areas and unfortunately this one lacks in terms of toy availability. It would also be nice if the toys were organized a little throughout the stay here — everything is strewn about. I have experienced other play areas that address this a bit better to make it a much better experience for the kids.

What a gem of a place. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. Plenty of things for the kids to do. I have to say the food there was fantastic. Well worth the money. Highly recommend a visit.

We come here regularly even though we're not local. Very clean, well organised and the staff are amazing. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble. Reasonably priced too for food and drinks.

This is was my daughter’s 3rd visit here. I’m a single mum & trying to run my own business so a lot of the time I try to juggle work & entertaining my 3 year old! I took my laptop with me so I could get some work done whilst she played and omg the staff were absolutely incredible.
One staff member could see I was busy so when he brought the food over he offered to go and find my daughter and let her know to come back to the table. Honestly I cannot believe how thoughtful and helpful the staff are.
We will 1000% be returning it is honestly the best play centre I’ve ever been to. The food is amazing too!! Thank you so mucch giggles!!

Kids had a great time, but mostly a massive thanks to the staff for properly catering for so many dietary needs - coeliac, allergies, the whole lot done properly. A credit!

Been today with the kids wasn't stupidlybusy like most places in the school holidays. It was really clean and all the staff were helpful & pleasant. We had our dinner while we were here. It wasn't expensive and was very nice. I had to pre book on line which was quick & simple.

Lancaster Town Hall is highly commendable for its efficient management of booster injections. The staff are exceptionally organized, and the waiting time is minimal. They are doing an outstanding job in delivering their service to the community. It is highly recommended that people who have not yet had any injections take advantage of this opportunity as they will be impressed with the quality of service provided by Lancaster Town Hall.
I've been here a few times representing the Duke of Lancaster's Regimental association but today it was to get my 2nd Covid19 vaccination, it was very well organised, clean and staff were great.

An excellent building architecturally speaking.
Sadly, Lancaster City Council need to work a lot harder at improving the environment of the city and wider district.
Key issues: Decaying buildings in Lancaster and Morecambe.
Heavy amounts of litter in Lancaster and especially Morecambe.
Too much sub-standard housing in need of improvement in Morecambe and student areas of Lancaster.
Poverty issues in Morecambe.
Poor condition of roads, especially in more deprived parts of the district.

Originally, I thought it was in a town and it is a hall, what else could I ask for and gave it five stars But then u came to a realisation; Lancaster is a city, not a town. Unfortunately, this was not something I could overlook. However, it is still a hall, so I must give credit where it’s due.

Due to the wireless transaction fault in the RinGo parking device nearby, I got the PCN. Any signs that the wireless payment is not working. Awful experience visiting this city!

Covid Vaccination Centre in the basement is not well signed unless you go to the 'front steps' of the town hall. Entry to the Vacc Centre is not allowed from Quarry Road but no signs to tell you. I was made to walk 3 sides of a square to get back in. All that is needed is an NHS Covid sign with an arrow! Once inside (!!) the process is straight forward. No photos allowed.

Went for my injection I was impressed with the staff and the service I received, for those people who have not had any injections please go and have it there is nothing to it.
The Lancaster Visitor Information Centre is a great source of information for tourists visiting the town. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and they provide accurate information about the area. This is an excellent place to start your visit to Lancaster.
doing a recon for a forthcoming trip to the city, normally we do our own research but I have to say the "guys" on duty were not only knowledgable about the city but their enthusiasm really is a credit to your organisation and i would encourage any visitors to pop in, great work Gareth. thanks Mike.

Completely ignored by man behind desk on computer . Would not hurt to say hello or acknowledge our presence , we were the only people in there . Put us right off , manners cost nothing . Good job people are much nicer elsewhere.
