St. Elisabeth's Cathedral, a Gothic-style cathedral constructed between 1378 and 1508, is Slovakia's largest religious building with a capacity of over 5,000 people. Located in Kosice's central square, the cathedral features tall stained-glass windows and colourful roof tiles that resemble a dragon. As one of Eastern Europe's farthest-reaching Gothic cathedrals, St. Elizabeth measures 60m in length and boasts the country's tallest tower at 59.
Definitely the standout landmark in Kosice, one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. Beautiful during the day and at night.
Free to visit the interior, and 3 Euro to climb the tower to get the best view of the town.
Interesting fact is this and the other churches in Kosice were all connected via underground tunnels/catacombs - which you can walk through also.

Main church of Košice. It's world eastern-most Gothic church. According to legend there is one stone which could cause whole cathedral to collapse once removed from the wall. Cathedral went through reconstruction in recent years. For few Euro you can visit tower (entrance from tower's outside door). This is definitely worth of visit since you have great view on historical city center from above.

Review for St. Elisabeth's Cathedral in Kosice, Slovakia:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nestled in the heart of Kosice's charming streets, St. Elisabeth's Cathedral stands as a dazzling centrepiece, demanding admiration from every passerby. With its intricate architecture and awe-inspiring presence, it is more than just a structure; it's an experience. To truly appreciate its grandeur, one must move, explore, and dance around its facade, soaking in its beauty from every angle. Kosice, with its serene vibes, serves as the perfect backdrop for such a magnificent marvel, ensuring that every moment spent here feels like a gentle embrace for the soul.
Just as one finds inspiration in the cathedral's architectural wonders, many of us seek guidance and motivation in life's journey. As an international video personal trainer and life coach, my mission is to help individuals find their unique path, drawing strength and clarity from the world around. Whether you're standing in the shadows of St. Elisabeth's or pondering life's challenges, remember that with the right perspective and support, every challenge becomes an opportunity. 🌍💪🏼🏰.

A magnificent cathedral in the center of Košice. Both outside and inside are magnificent. We were fortunate to attend mass at the cathedral.

Beauthiful cathedral in the Kosice Old Town. It's open for visitors, entrance is free.

Good site for a quick visit (around 30min. counting the tower), unless you're a devout Catholic. Then, time is of no importance. The biggest plus is that the tower is reportedly the highest place in Košice, so you get a nice view from the top. We went up the tower with our three children, but I would not advise it for children under 6-7 (except if you want to do a quick workout, or learn patience and endurance). The remainder of the church is child-friendly and some zones are handicap accessible. You should, however, be mindful of the people praying in the pews.

A very beautiful cathedral. It amazes with its gothic, upward-looking interior. The cathedral is very huge. You can look at it endlessly. Especially outside there are many sculptures and bas-reliefs.
Виктория Зайцева — Google review
The church has amazing architecture and decorations. You can also visit the tower and enjoy the view, but you need to climb many stairs. It totally worths it.
Theodora Ispas — Google review
The Cathedral is so beautiful and relaxing. We paid 2 euros/person the entrace on the groud floor. If one wants to visit the tower also must pay 5 euros.

It is definitively a number one must see when visiting Košice. Question is, which tickets are worth of buying, as this cathedral offers various combination. There are no guided tours available at weekends, so we bought whole cathedral (5 eur) plus entry to neighboring chappel of st. Michael. Included crypts in cathedral are nothing special, but access to two towers is definitely worth of buying whole package tour/ticket.
Peter Herka — Google review
The Cathedral of Saint Elizabeth is a beautiful church well worth visiting. It is a wonderful example of high gothic architecture with some very nice altars, including the spectacular central one. You can go up the rather unique double helix stairs and take in the view from the balcony. You can also go down into the crypt and climb the tower. It is located in a pretty garden in the middle of the main road.
Siegfried B — Google review
A stunning church to visit. There is no entry fee, but they do charge you 2€ to take photos. Beautiful architecture, organ, stained glass windows and many alters and prayer rooms to see and experience. Anyone is allowed to sit and pray or meditate or just have a rest inside. You can also buy a brochure about the church in english for 1€ at the little shop inside the church. I found this very handy when walking around inside and out, with much information and history of the church outlined. On the left of the church entry, is the entry to the church tower. Do yourself a favour and pay the 2€ to go up - totally worth the money and effort! The view for the top is fantastic! A great was to see Košice!
Mikluš prison is a distinctive museum in Kosice that boasts Gothic features and a collection of period artifacts. Visitors can explore the bastion's walls from the 15th century, which showcase Kosice's expertise in producing medieval weapons. The museum also houses exhibits such as cannonballs, coats of arms, and horse mannequins that reflect this historical period.
If you visit Kosice and don't go to this site, you have seen nothing. A journey back to dark years through a well designed educational approach! Especially the underground cells and torchering chamber is a life changing experience....
Christos K — Google review
If you want to know more about Kosice's history this stop is a must.
Miklus Prison shows part of Slovakia history from the years 1200 and the following centuries.
You can see weapons, cells, the kitchen and more in three different levels, including a subterranean one, all of this with the help of an audio guide in different languages and introductory video.
Javier Díaz Piña — Google review
Went to door of prison which was closed, so asked at the ticket office in executioners bastion and was told we could buy tickets there and she would let us in.
So we did that, she let us in and put on a video for us to watch and explained how to use audio guides and then left us to our own devices so we wandered around the museum by ourselves.
The museum is very interesting and has lots of interesting things to look at, I would recommend going.
Cost is 4 euros for an adult.

Definitely underrated, if you were willing to learn about history this is absolutely the perfect place to learn, would visit again!
Dema Gadir — Google review
It's ok, the signs telling you what the exhibits are need to be in multi language, so all can understand. The audio guide needs to be in some kind of order.
The ticketing needs to explain what you get for each price.
I got the ticket that includes everything but nothing says once you've done this area got to here.
All very disjointed would have been a lot better with better direction

Very cool museum. Introduction video at the beginning of the prison tour in multiple languages. Additionally, they provided a hand held voice guide machine for exhibits. Price is very reasonable for the tour. I went with my two boys and only played 3 euros total. Very friendly staff at the booking office. To attend museum tour, we had to go through the corridor next to the church and pay in booking office. I am not sure if it is always like this, but it was for us.
The ZOO Kosice is a sprawling animal park featuring European and Asian mammal and bird exhibits. Visitors can enjoy strolling through wooded walking paths while observing numerous fascinating animals. Additionally, there is a Dino Park available for an additional fee that includes a 3D movie about baby dinosaurs traveling in "dino world." The zoo boasts interactive exhibits and friendly staff. With so many things to see, visitors should plan on spending several hours exploring the vast grounds of this wonderful attraction.
Very nice zoo to go to. A loď of animals to see. There is also Dino park as part of the Zoo. You will have to pay extra to go in. There is possibility to go to see 3D movie about experience of baby dinosaur traveling in "dino world". My experience of Košice Zoo were very pleasant and positive.

Great zoo! The territory is huge and there are a lot of different animals. I wasn't expecting this zoo to be this good. 5⭐! It's 100% worth visiting. ( fences at the aviary are shocked, so watch out )
Nim — Google review
The Zoo itself is very big and you will do a lot of walking and conquer some small hills as the pavilions for various animals are not so close. You will find all the main animals, that your kids are looking for. I would add but more signs on where the animals are exactly located. The environment is very nice and feels like being in the forest. Recommending checking when they feed the animals with commentary as this is very nice to see and you get interesting information. The Zoo is quite remote from the Košice. Don't rely on the navigation as it can take you through not very much maintained roads, although appearing the shortest way.

Parking 3EUR. 3-5 min walking distance to main entry gate where you also buy the ticket. Common entrance for zoo and dino park. We paid 10EUR/adult for dino park but to get to dino park you walk through the whole zoo park. Very well planned, it stretches across many ha and offers a proper space for some animals. You keep walking like theough a park on aleys, sometimes concrete sometimes cubic stone pavement. Friendly with strollers.

It's amazing place. 😊 The environment is absolutely huge and georgeos, all of the animals truly happy here. There are limited parking places, so when it's busy you need to park near the road approx 1 km far from the entrance, but in nice weather this is just a pleasure walking. You can buy an adult ticket for 10€ / £8 (includong the Dino Park also), so it's a bargain price nowadays. All it all, we're 100% satishfied with everythig, definitely we'll get back soon! 😎

Good zoo. Very big territory, where you will spent around 2 hours or more. Maybe not very high variety of animals, but their enclosures are big, well-organized and close to natural. There is a time-table of feeding of animals, so you can enjoy watching the process.
You can fing several fast-food cafes at the territory of the zoo.
On holidays the zoo is overcrowded by local people.

I really like this place for shopping and great access to the centre of town if needed however they have recently started charging for parking. Be very careful they don't do day rate. I left my car there once over night and ended up paying almost 50€ for parking🙄 however otherwise nice shopping centre.

Au Park exceeded my expectations in several ways. First and foremost, their atmosphere was truly mind-blowing. The ambiance of the place added a special touch to my visit, making it a memorable experience. One thing that stood out was the impeccable hygiene of the stalls. It's reassuring to see such a commitment to cleanliness, which is essential for an enjoyable shopping and dining experience. What pleasantly surprised me even more was their pricing. Compared to other malls, Au Park offers reasonable prices, making it an attractive destination for shoppers looking for value. One of the highlights for me was the top floor, where they have McDonald's, KFC, and Burger King. As a foreigner, this was a delightful find. It's comforting to have access to familiar food options without hesitation, and this added convenience made my visit even more enjoyable. In conclusion, Au Park offers a fantastic atmosphere, maintains high hygiene standards, provides reasonable prices, and caters to international tastes with its top-floor dining options. It's definitely a mall worth visiting for both locals and foreigners alike.

Jakabov Palác is a magnificent palace-like structure, featuring a square tower, which was named after its designer and original resident. This castle-like building can be viewed from the outside and is located conveniently close to the train station in Kosice. It is considered a must-see site because it holds historical significance as the place where E. Benes, President of Czechoslovakia during WWII, settled on the first free land in April 1944.
Beautiful castle-like palace that can only be viewed from the outside, it's right outside the train station and as such cannot be missed. If you have a few minutes between two trains it's worth the 2 minutes walk

A beer garden, a cafe, and more located in a closed cigarette factory.
If you're looking for an informal place visited by locals that's an easy choice. It's anything but posh but that's exactly the kind of place where I feel at home. The vibe of this place is absolutely fantastic.
They serve some specialty beer and wine but that's when they open the garden bar (at least in the summer), which is 5pm. Before that you can still enjoy a Pilsner Urquell.
There are some food options but we didn't try them.
The courtyard reminds food courts, with a lot of makeshift tables and seating.
There's also a small place for kids.
There are live concerts in the evening, so it's another reason to check it out before calling it a night.
Oh, the entrance is from Gorkeho street, which is not obvious when you're looking at it on the map.

Great atmosphere if you like the "hipster" look and vibe. The drinks are great, there is also nice beer, but if you want anything other than Pilsner, you need to order in the small bar in the outside area. They also serve some very tasty food, only until 8pm though.

St. Michael's Chapel, situated near St. Elizabeth Cathedral in the city centre, is a magnificent example of gothic architecture dating back to the late 1300s. The chapel boasts vaulted ceilings and stunning stained glass windows that leave visitors in awe of its intricate beauty. Velvetrun 24.06.2023. Grate day. More then 500 wumen was there.
The Eastern Slovak Museum is a historical museum housed in a Neo-Renaissance building. It contains artifacts and an extensive collection of rare coins, including a Denmark coin section that features a unique Jewish mint design. The museum is one of three in the area, with two connected buildings housing art and natural history exhibits while the other offers temporary exhibitions and a permanent gold coin exhibition in its basement.
There are 3 buildings of museums in this area. Two are connected: the art and natural history museums. One is across the street and has temporary exhibitions and a permanent gold coin exhibition in the basement. My favorite museum is the art museum, which has several rare books and coins, though I do not know whether these are originals or replicas. The least impressive museum is the one with the gold coins in the basement. Other than geography, no detailed explanation exists for the inscriptions on the coins. If you visit, take a look at the Denmark coin section, which includes what must be a rare Jewish mint design. (October 2019)

Visited the gold coins treasure which was quite good! However the rest of the building did not have any interesting exhibits or was not accessible. Was expecting more for the ticket we paid....

Informative exhibits and the stunning Kosice gold treasure. A must see!
The Slovak Technical Museum is a diverse museum that features collections dedicated to astronomy, history of science and technology. The exhibits cover various scientific fields, such as metallurgy, electrical devices, old telephones, and dentistry. The museum offers a maze-like experience with rooms meandering from one to another. Although only 1/3 of the exhibits are translated into English, the collection is worth the €5 entrance fee. Enigma and other interesting artifacts can be found here.
Great expositions of old scientific instruments, engineering tools and quirky old industrial design. Some very unique pieces, including an original enigma machine. Beautiful stuff. Also there is a large interactive science experience center full of interactive exhibits and games for kids. It is great.

It's a mish mash of many different scientific areas and there is no rhyme or reason. From metallurgy to old telephones to electrical devices to dentistry, the building is like a maze just meandering from room to room. Even so it's worth 5 euros but know going in that only about 1/3 of the exhibits are translated to English!

I visited on a rainy day and was one of the few visitors, so it was a pleasant experience. The exhibitions were, for me, very interesting and I appreciated the descriptive English texts. The cashier was a very lovely woman who did her best to explain where to go, what to do etc., despite our language barrier. Two thumbs up for both the exhibitions and service.

This park, close to the stations is a great place in the day time and we enjoyed a lot yesterday, The White Night exhibition. You can find playgrounds nad lawns for relaxing or playing games. In the winter, the is an ice ring and you can do ice-skating, the warm time you can play basketball or other game. There is also sport summer program.

They are cutting too many trees 🌳 there but still, it is the best park in Kosice.

The park is great. Loved the nature, loved the playgrounds for the kids. You can spend some good time with the family, friends or even alone.

Great place to visit in Kosice. It is clean with several playgrounds for kids. It is like a little Hyde park of Kosice city.

Pretty good place for walking. There are playgrounds, fountains, benches for relaxation, a pond with "golden" fish. The only downside is that the park is located next to the railway station, so here you can often meet dirty, noisy and sometimes drunk gypsies...

Very nice & usually calm place right next to busy downtown. Available many Sport & relax amenities, incl. playgrounds, swimmimg pool... it is also great place to cool down under trees when the treeless streets of downtown are overheated.

Good place to spend some quality time with childrens
What a nice experience. You can visit it for free and have photos inside the trains or you can have a ride at specific hours and prices.

Interesting to see an old locomotive in motion. Kids are directing, checking tickets and gives you headsups, but appart from that nothing special. The rail goes paralell with the road, not in the woods.

Great attraction for kids. There is a nice amusement (in the terms of local conditions) park for kids at Alpinka station.

Lovely place to bring kids. Especially enjoyable when it's hot. The best part of the journey is in a forrest valley where is much better air than down in the town. Kids under 3 go free.

great place, bit troubled parking which is not marked and if you miss it you have to drive pretty far to turn around and there is very limited space for parking rather get there with bigger time reserve. everything else is well organized. the service is very nice and it is great experience for kids as the train is slow speed. at the end of the track you will find beautiful kids camp/playground like 100m away. highly recommend

Very interesting for little kids, they had quite fun. Be extra careful for this low coat-rack on top of the seats in the train. I hit my head so hard, that I almost broke my skull. Edit: added 1 remaining star, owners are right. It was my fault, I should have been more careful.
