The German Mining Museum is a prominent attraction in the Ruhr area, known for its extensive displays on the history and technology of mining, as well as its collection of mineral specimens. The museum also features a recreated mine and offers an underground tour that provides visitors with a unique perspective on the industry. Its location provides stunning views of the entire Ruhr valley, making it popular among tourists. In addition to its exhibits, the museum hosts engaging activities nearby and enjoyable spaces to relax during summer months.
It's an amazing museum with huge amount of information within the artifacts and really interesting temporary exhibitions.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the German Mine Museum in Bochum, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported back in time to the heyday of mining in the region.
The museum is incredibly well-curated, with informative exhibits that cover everything from the evolution of mining technology to the daily lives of miners.
Throughout the museum, there are interactive displays, multimedia presentations, and fascinating artifacts that bring the history of mining to life. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the effort that went into preserving this important part of our industrial heritage.
The staff at the museum were friendly and knowledgeable, and they were more than happy to answer any questions I had. Plus, the onsite facilities, including a gift shop and cafe, made it easy to spend the whole day exploring.
Overall, I can't recommend the German Mine Museum enough. Whether you're a history buff, a science enthusiast, or just looking for a unique experience, this museum has something for everyone. It's a true gem in the heart of Bochum.

Fantastic museum! One of the best i've seen during 4 month of my life in NRW. My kids are big fans of big metal vehicle and digging. So it was right place for them. We have spend 4 hours and I could spend more, but kids was overloaded and hungry. Each time when you think that it's the end of exhibition, comes new hall) and that's great. Really enjoyed. Thank you for great job, modern style and special thank you for information in English on every exhibit.

Great mining museum with lots of interenting content on mining in general, minerals, history of mining, mining techniques with lots of practical and interactive material. Also, beautiful view from the top and nice experience in the underground mine round walk.
Sebastian D'Agostino — Google review
Ticket entry is €10. They will take you in subterranean mins with a lift. You can walk across underground mines to see mining equipments for drilling, locomotive, cycles, safety, lamps, etc. It is a different world. Bochum used to mine 310 million year old hard coal. On ground floor you can go through exhibits which show history, political, social, migrants, art, key personalities, equipments associated with Rhine-westphalan / Ruhr area collieries. First floor have mining exhibits other than coal - oil, gold, silver, other minerals, salt, precious stones, etc. History of mining from antiquity till recent. Must see if you are in the area!

The main attraction of the mining museum is the underground tour and the view from the top of the structure. The guide was really friendly and helpful.

Interesting to explore the way the earth is/was mined for various purposes.
Through the little journey, it is understandable the history of mining, politics behind it, machineries used, evolution of mining, drilling, rescuing operations and so on..
Easily accessible by the public transport as well.
Enough parking is available around it.
Payment by card is accepted.

My father worked in the mines during WWII, an endearing and interesting experience, especially the group tour 50 metres down the mines via elevator. At only 10 euros entry fee, good value for money. Parking was free, however the downside was finding car space.

Nice museum to learn about coal mining. I especially liked the tower and mine.
Good exhibition spaces but too much for one day and wish we had been recommended in which order to explore the museum, ended up doing most of it backwards.

Today we went to the museum for the second time and it’s just great. Besides all the underground mining shafts with large machinery and spectacular views from the tower top, there is also a very interesting and informative museum area about the history and future of mining from the Stone Age to today. There is also lots of hands on stuff for kids to do and try out. I’d recommend lots of time, as there is so much to see. I’d also suggest giving the snack area a try, as they have pretty original food for the location, which also tastes well and is priced reasonably. Full recommendation. 👌🏿👌🏿

For people interested in the subject, this is a truly excellent museum.
Below the museum, you walk around in 1-2 km of very authentic mine galleries filled with all sorts of equipment. I was absolutely convinced that they were real and astounded to find out that it was all artificial.
Information both in German and English. Some in writing and some audio info points.
On the top there is a panorama view of the surrounding areas.
Inside there is more equipment, videos, old photos and information, in more traditional style.

Incredible much to see. If you're at least a little bit interested in the topic of mining, I advise to book atleast one afternoon for this place.
The staff is also very friendly and answer every, even the so called stupid question you might have.
Ruhr Park is a trendy and contemporary shopping center that boasts an extensive selection of stores, an expansive food court, and a sizable 14-screen cinema. The mall is distinguishable from other commercial establishments with its diverse array of brands and products for sale. Additionally, the shopping center provides ample space for children to play around while their parents shop. The eating area features both indoor and outdoor options.

The well-known animal sanctuary houses a variety of wildlife species from different parts of the world, including flamingos and seals. Additionally, its high-tech aquarium features impressive exhibits with a focus on fossils. Despite its compact size, the park provides an excellent opportunity for families with young children to explore nature and learn about animals up close. However, it is worth noting that some cages were empty during the visit. Improvements could be made to indicate when certain animals are not present in the park or aquarium.
I enjoyed my trip in this zoo!So many wonderful sights of animal's life. Very good for half day trip, after visiting the zoo it is pleasant to take a walk in the park.

A mini but, in my opinion, perfectly designed Zoo. Well-kept vivariums and enclosures. The animals also show that they are given great care. They all look better than in many larger zoos. You will be able to walk around everything without rushing for an hour. You can also eat typical fast food inside. There are plenty of parking spaces nearby - free and paid. In my opinion, ticket prices are low and perfect in relation to the quality. I recommend.

For Monday 11:00 it was pretty full. 8 euros the ticket for adults. It's not really big, we needed about an hour to walk all of it. I think it's 3 km. Many cute animals to see and something to eat with good prices. We ate 2 bratwurst with bread and one waffel and we paid 9 euros. The only think i didn't like it's that the animals in water where not clean. And in the aquarium too.

Inside is much bigger than it looks from the outside! Many different species from all over the world. It was a good to spend a day closer to nature. One note: there were about 20% of cages that were empty, or at least the animal was not inside. It would be better if such place were marked that the fish or animal is not inside

It was founded by DGEG, the German Railway History Company in 1977 and is based in a locomotive depot that was built between 1916 and 1918 and ceased operation in 1969. Then DGEG took over the whole area of 46,000 square metres and built up the biggest railway museum in Germany. In the middle of the museum, there is an engine shed with fourteen tracks. A preserved turntable, coaling, watering, and sanding facilities are still in operation. This museum is integrated into The Industrial Heritage Trail (Route der Industriekultur) a route of monuments from the history of the industry. The origins of the vehicle collection go back to 1967. A variety of steam locomotives and other technically interesting railway vehicles from different epochs are displayed. There are over 200 exhibits in total. The stars of the exhibition are the heavy locomotives. In summer, regular museum train services are operated by the Ruhr Valley Railway (Ruhrtalbahn) along the banks of the river Ruhr to Hagen using usually a Uerdingen railbus, but sometimes a variety of locomotives, including a steam engine. A Prussian P 8 (38 2267) owned by the museum is usually used for the steam services. When there is steam service on the Ruhrtalbahn (usually every first Sunday of a month), the Uerdingen railbus operate another abandoned railway, the Teckel from Hagen to Ennepetal Klutert cave. In addition, from 2009 there were regular trips to the Zollverein coal mine (Zeche Zollverein) via Mülheim and Essen. Part of the museum train to Hagen includes a restored passenger coach by MAN from 1921 belonging to the Essen Model Railway Club (Modell-Eisenbahn-Club Essen & Umgebung e.V.) founded in 1949.

(Translated by Google) Feels odd to rate a church given that I've been there once for a wedding and once, sadly, for a funeral. But the building is magnificent inside and out. With some frescoes it is difficult to tell what is painted and what is real. For example a tapestry. So far I don't know exactly. If you are in Stiepeler Dorf and pass by there, you should take a look. In addition, the clergy are really wonderful, young and blunt and find beautiful words that you can actually accept as a non-believer. Nice place. Loving and historically effective.

It was a first for us, my partner and I! We are concert and music lovers and moved to Bochum at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic but until last Saturday ( 18th June 2022) there were limited possibilities to attend live performances. . Our visit was very satisfying on two levels . The concert itself ( Baroque music) was delightful but so was our first experience in the Annaliese Brost Music Forum. A bright and airy venue . A modern "no frills" concert hall built alongside the converted former Mariankirche , which currently serves as a foyer, cloakroom and bar for visitors , and also a smaller small room for chamber music.
Unfortunately numbers in the concert hall were rather low , but it has a very pleasing acoustic, is light airy and comfortable, and staff are friendly and helpful. All in all a very pleasant locale - just a small criticism: 7 euros for a small glass of wine in the bar is a bit steep!

Full of local color, we finally taste our favorite drink...Several taste samples of different types of beer from the house can be enjoyed...Of course, in style with the "real" and only true currywurst from Bochum...

(Translated by Google) We have long known and appreciated that the Moritz Fiege private brewery brews great beer! We found out yesterday during the BrauKultur tour that a brewery tour there is also a fantastic event.
Our guide Andreas and later our “tapper” Jonas led us through an entertaining evening in a relaxed atmosphere.
After a short historical introduction in front of the Fiege family's founding house, we went into the holy halls. The brewing process, the necessary ingredients and the gentle slow brewing were explained to us in detail, as was the subsequent filling into the familiar swing-top bottles.
In between we were able to taste the fresh founder beer at “Zwickel” in the lager cellar.
Full of new impressions, we finally went up to the Zirbelstube where a freshly tapped Fiege Pils (from Jonas) and a real Dönninghauser currywurst were already waiting for us. We then ended the evening with nice, like-minded people with one or two beers from the Fiege range, all of which can be tasted without limit.
What a great evening, in a great, customer-oriented and friendly small family or private brewery!
Please, dear family Fiege, keep this, it makes you and your beer lovable!

(Translated by Google) An incredibly great brewery tour that we were able to do with our guide Andreas.
The guide carried out the tour with charm and wit but also a good portion of in-depth knowledge, so that we, a group of around 30 people, quickly became thirsty for beer.
Although Andreas noticed that our throats were dry, he led us through the tour with a pleasant relaxedness that made the waiting time for the liquid gold bearable.
After an hour-long tour, it was Andreas himself who made our parched throats happy in the heights of Bochum with Pilsner according to the German Purity Law.
Add to that a delicious Dönnighaus and the complete Fiege range and we were happy.
Andreas we'll be back.
Thank you for this great experience.
High fives go out, Christian!

High fives gehen raus,Christian!

The LWL Industrial Museum Zeche Hannover is a fascinating museum that showcases the industrial heritage of the area. One of its main attractions is a working 1893 steam engine, while younger visitors can explore the Knirps colliery. Guided tours are regularly offered, and visitors can enjoy refreshments on site. The location is excellent and provides an immersive experience for those interested in the history of coal mining.

Went there for the special Christmas market which was moved to the shed next door with no announcements or proper signage. A typical example of how Germany continues to waste tourist time because they couldn’t be bothered to staff the main museum. I brought my brother there for this experience and it was embarrassing.

(Translated by Google) Very nice museum with changing exhibitions. The tour is recommended. In a playful way, you are taken back to the time when coal was first mined up to the present day when it was used as a museum. The large former steam wheel is still functional and is turned on during tours. A size and wonderful work that you don't see often these days. The children will also get their money's worth with the Knirps mine. There they can slip into the role of miners and reenact the various processes underground and above ground. However, the Knirps mine is only open to everyone on certain days. See photo.

Siehe Foto.

There are few toilet spots, a lot of space for gastronomy and merchandizing. There is few stores big parking lot next to it, which is not best organised, but the space matters, and it costs only 4 Euros. Location is also convenient, because it's at the exit from the highway. PROJECTS
JAHRHUNDERTHALLE BOCHUM
MAIN VENUE FOR THE RUHRTRIENNALE
The former Gas Power Centre of the cast steel company „Bochumer Verein für Bergbau und Gußstahlfabrikation“, an industrial listed building from the year 1903, was reconstructed at the beginning of the millennium to a concert hall and extended by a large foyer and a cloakroom building. The historic construction could be sensitively toughened by means of continually cambered cables. The installation of a structural heating screed provided intelligent strengthening for the basement slabs. The new building construction of steel was abutted on an old external wall and suspended via the toughened cables on the existing construction.
The extension of this protected, sophisticated structure with almost fully utilised components required an extremely cautious distribution of the additional forces in the old structure.
DIETGER WEISCHEDE
COMPANY FOUNDER
Thanks to the ingenious structural framework planning, only a few parts of the old structure had to be strengthened. This resulted not only in a very economical solution, but also appealed especially because of the barely recognisable intrusion in the old, listed basic structure of the building. The Jahrhunderthalle Bochum is the main venue for the international cultural festival „Ruhrtriennale“ since the completion of the reconstruction in 2003

The unintentional performance, its fleeting and temporary nature, which the exhibition space leaves an impression on, is impressive. The current exhibition "Hopes of Paradise" touches on a fragile world of objects with several exhibits. With our five senses, the future can be endured so much better. Then, when we manage to raise our gaze to the horizon of perception. And with hope, become knowledgeable about art using the instruments. The paradise of the arts may not be realized so quickly in our mind's eye - but it helps that "Galerie m" is embedded in an enchantingly beautiful museum landscape. Just a stone's throw away: >Art Station< and >Museum Underground<. A “small paradise garden of art”, this unexpected place on the edge of Bochum is definitely worth a look.
