The Catedral de Zamora is a historic church originating from the 12th century, featuring a unique blend of architectural styles including Romanesque and Byzantine. Its location at the intersection of Caminos de Plata and Levanter, along the banks of Duero river adds to its charm. Although not as grandiose as other Spanish cathedrals like Toledo or Salamanca, it offers impressive structures such as chapels, altar and dome-like ceilings inside.
This is a beautifully preserved, ancient cathedral that hosts a myriad of fascinating pieces of art in its small interior. Opened in 1174, it is a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture in Spain. Although it includes important changes from the 16th century, you can feel the antiquity of this church as you walk about in its interior.
It is, however, most recognised from its exterior appearance. The cathedral overlooks the Duero river, and its bell tower and dome have become inseparable symbols of the town of Zamora.
Its location, at the end of the historical downtown, invites visitors to walk through the city before arriving to it. We paid no entry fee, it was actually quite warm inside despite a freezing day outside, and there were available leaflets with some handy information.
Definitely, a must-see visit if you pass by Zamora!

Although it is not in the class of the great cathedrals of Spain such as Toledo, Salamanca and Leon it is still well worth a visit. Located along the banks of the Duero and where the Caminos de Plata and Levanter meet, this 12th Century Romanesque construction was completed in an astonishing 27 years. It boasts some particularly attractive structures including its altar, chapels and domelike ceilings (pictures included).

Zamora is a city in Castile and Leon, Spain, it lies on a rocky hill in the northwest, near the frontier with Portugal and crossed by the Douro river, which is some 50 kilometres downstream as it reaches the Portuguese border. With its 24
Characteristic Romanesque style churches of the 12th and 13th centuries it has been called a "museum of Romanesque art". Zamora is the city with the most Romanesque churches in all of Europe.

Zamora Castle, a grand fortress in the heart of the town, is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture. The castle features well-preserved structures such as the Tribute Tower, gates, and moat. It has served various purposes throughout history including as a prison and court of justice. The castle offers free entry to visitors and guided tours that delve into its historical significance. Surrounded by Castle Park, it provides stunning views of the Douro River and the city.
Mi visita al castillo de Zamora fue una experiencia muy interesante y enriquecedora. The Museo Baltasar Lobo is a delightful and quaint gallery featuring contemporary sculptures by the talented Spanish artist Baltasar Lobo. The collection includes an array of special pieces, with a particular focus on the theme of maternity, which are truly remarkable. This museum offers visitors an opportunity to learn about Lobo's work, a relatively unknown artist in his homeland due to having gone into exile during the Civil War. The display also showcases paintings and photographs alongside the beautiful sculptures.

After many years I finally got the opportunity to travel from Ireland to Zamora to visit El Museo Baltasar Lobo. It was an enormous pleasure to be able to see and indeed touch so many masterpieces of this great artist but the museum itself left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. There was little information, and no bookshop on offer. My wife and I wanted to view the floor, were the receptionist was sitting, which contained many more of the artists works, but we were refused access without explanation. My wife also wanted to use the public bathroom but likewise she was told that this was off limits again without explanation. While I was on the upper floor of the exhibition a man entered the museum and started to converse incredibly loudly and swear with the receptionist who clearly knew him. This continued to the point where I had to go downstairs and ask them please to be quiet as it was impossible to enjoy the museum with this nonsense. I have travelled the world visiting museums and this was the first time I have ever had to ask actual employees of a cultural establishment to show a minimum of courtesy to their visitors. The only reason I know of the existence of Zamora is thanks to the genius of Baltasar Lobo. The employees who owe their livelihoods to their great erstwhile compatriot should show his art and the people who travel the world to experience it more respect.

As a small negative detail/suggestion, I missed the explanatory plaque on the female bust on the 2nd floor.
The person who attends the museum is extremely friendly.

The Zamora Museum showcases various aspects of archaeology, fine arts, and the city's history. It houses a diverse collection that includes religious paintings, ceramics from the Muslim era, and Roman mosaics. Adjacent to the museum are the historic Santa Lucia Church and the Palacio del Cordon. Although only two rooms were accessible during renovations, visitors found it worthwhile due to helpful staff and personalized explanations about Copper Age discoveries in Castro.
Very interesting museum, well maintained and documented. Its estate has, above all, sacred art from empty churches and convents.

I even got to enjoy a wonderful customized explanation about what was found in Castro from the Copper Age. I would definitely recommend it.

Terrible professionalism of the room staff, specifically a lady who, when we arrived, was already talking loudly to the guard until she started talking on the phone at a fairly high volume as well. This situation lasted the entire 50 minutes of our visit. Your superiors should take action unless their job is to bother museum visitors and take home a paycheck paid for by taxpayers.

In the area known as Barrios Bajos, an ancient district of Zamora, one can find notable structures such as the Church of Santa María de la Horta. This medieval neighborhood also features other impressive edifices like Santo Tome and the palace of Cordon, which houses the Museo Provincial. From here, a stroll along Balborraz street will lead to the main square (Plaza Mayor) at the heart of Zamora.
