The Black Dam reservoir is a picturesque destination that boasts an array of serene ponds with elegant swans, and is surrounded by meandering hiking and cycling paths. The area provides ample opportunities for feeding ducks and features a designated play area for children. Although litter can sometimes be present, the beauty of the location far outweighs this minor issue. It's a perfect place to enjoy leisurely strolls while taking in the natural beauty of the surroundings.
The Black Dam Pond is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Basingstoke.
Walking the easy 1 mile loop trail, you'll be treated to majestic swans, paddling ducks, and soaring red kites around the scenic pond.
Dragonflies, frogs, and other wildlife abound in the reeds and bulrushes fringing the water.
Benches along the path provide perfect spots to appreciate the tranquil, verdant surroundings.
After your nature ramble, head to the charming Black Dam Cafe just across the road for delicious lunches and locally roasted coffee while taking in pretty pond views from the patio.
With its abundant wildlife and scenic trails, the Black Dam Pond is an excellent spot to enjoy the best of nature near Basingstoke.

Lovely spot for a walk, feed the ducks and let the kids play in the play park. Just a walk through the under pass to the crabtree.

I love going here with my toddler, nice for a stroll to sit and relax and also to have a play in the park- for the little one.

Lovely area where we feed the ducks and the boys can play in the play area. Can sometimes be abit messy with litter but we have to look past this as the boys enjoy seeing the ducks.
Milestones Museum is an interactive undercover family attraction that recreates street scenes with vehicles, shops and homes. The museum offers an annual pass for a reasonable entry fee of 16 pounds. The facility has plenty to offer for children and adults alike, including games, a living museum display, a working pub with regulars and a sweet shop where one can purchase sweets using a ration card. Visitors can also enjoy the nice little cafe on-site.
Went to Milestones with the family, including 2 children and 4 adults during half term.
What an amazing place.
We paid £16 each for entry but it gives you an annual pass for a year.
There was plenty for the children to do, and they had put on lots of games that kept the two kids occupied for 5 hours.
The adults in the group also enjoyed the games but got chance to actually look at the living museum too.
One thing everyone loves and is a nice addition is the sweet shop, buy a ration card and then you can use it to get some sweeties.
It has a working pub (with regulars too) and a nice little cafe.
We'll be going back soon in term time just with the wife to explore the museum.

Great place to spend time in , it's under cover so you don't have to worry about the weather. Well set out and great for all ages. The cafe does a good Verity of snacks or meals.

Wonderful place for all the family. We took people aged 86, 66, 38, 9 and 4, and we all enjoyed it. There is a pub inside too! Toilets very clean. Several places to eat. Sweet shop. The kids can run around and enjoy so much! Loved it!

I'm probably being harsh giving 3 stars since I did enjoy my visit, however, everything was not quite so interactive for kids 2-8 as the website had seemingly implied. Especially as there was only one bus which you were allowed to get on while the website video seemed to advertise more, my two year old was dying to get on everything! I definitely think there is a missed opportunity to make things more interactive and kid friendly, and/or provide a bigger kids play space as the area next to the cafe was tiny (it was closed on my visit as well!). Parents would be visiting in troves to entertain the kids on rainy days if there was some tweaks to various equipment/vehicles and displays. Overall, enjoyable day out but some improvements could be made.

A lovely day out with the kids. A very relaxed environment with lots of parking on arrival. The place has lots of activities and is well-sign posted. Great arcades section - but do go armed with 50p coins as they will be needed, if you want to avoid using card payments. The older retro games require card payment via onsite money converter.
There is a decent cafe on the ground floor with a reasonable selection of warm/cold food and a good selection of drinks.
The nostalgic bar is pretty cool which serves real old Skool ales!!
Well worth a visit and there are a number of places to eat close by if the cafe doesn’t suit.

Nice place for young families to go. We arrived at 10:30am and it wasn’t busy, but we needed to use the overflow carpark. Bought the tickets at entrance, only waited a few minutes.
We spent maybe under two hours in the museum and had lunch after. The kids (4 and 2) enjoyed it but not many vehicles they can touch or sit on, only the bus (downstairs) and the fire engine (which was out of order).
The cafe was nice, plenty of tables and options to choose from. I believe the tickets last a year so we will definitely come back.

Lovely heritage museum. Lots to see and enjoy. Allow 2 to 4 hours for your visit depending upon how much you want to dwell and reminisce. Especially if you use the free Audio Guides - we spent 4 hours and skipped some of the Audio Guide sections. Don't miss the sweet shop that sells old style sweets or the pub for a pint, which opens at lunchtime. There's a nice café over looking the museum streets. It does hot lunches as well as tea, coffee and cakes. Also there's a well stocked gift shop - good for old fashioned gifts. All good. 😎 👍

A wonderful trip back in time! This museum is well designed and takes you through the local history in a very atmospheric way.
It really comes alive with its victirian streets, trades, and shops. You get to buy a "ration card" when you enter (£1.85) and use it to buy 2oz of sweets in the little sweet shop.
It is a really interactive way for children to get to understand the changing periods of times and how they affected people living then.
Nice little coffee shop with limited hot food, and snacks. Also, a fascinating gift shop selling all kinds of associated memorabilia from postcards to toys and old fashioned games and sweets.
The only thing that was unexpected was that purchases made had the price, then vat was added separately on the receipt!
Overall, fully recommended and much to learn about here.

A really lovely place to visit. The attention to details was amazing, they even made sure there were authentic smells in each area - for example, a place that had a fireplace, smelled like fire and coal, and a place that was to do with laundry, smelled of detergent. We even managed to get some sweets by presenting a ration book to the shop! We had loads of fun that day.

Fabulous day out. Was so lovely to walk the cobbled streets and look at the old transport and emergency vehicles etc. Lots of things to look at and we really enjoyed playing the old arcade games with real old one penny’s. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable and welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back for sure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great place to while away a few hours. It was interesting viewing the old shops and exhibits, and you can play on the machines on the pier - have to change your money for old pennies. Brought back memories from my early life.
Well worth a visit.

Visiting the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke was truly a journey through time that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the meticulous attention to detail in every corner of this remarkable museum. Walking through the recreated streets felt like stepping back in time to the bustling Victorian era, with authentic shops, houses, and even a pub that truly brought history to life.
One of the highlights of our visit was exploring the interactive exhibits, which offered hands-on experiences that were both educational and entertaining. From trying our hand at traditional crafts to learning about the evolution of transportation through vintage cars and trains, there was something fascinating to discover at every turn.
What truly sets Milestones Museum apart is the passion and dedication of the staff. Their enthusiasm for history was infectious, and they were more than happy to share their knowledge and stories with us, enhancing our overall experience.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a family looking for a fun day out, or simply curious about the past, I cannot recommend Milestones Museum highly enough. It's a hidden gem in Basingstoke that deserves to be celebrated for its immersive and engaging approach to preserving local history. A five-star experience that left us eager to return and explore even more!

Very nice museum, plenty to see for the elderly and beautiful exhibits. Ground floor is where the displays are and 1st floor is learning.
Top floor theres a nice cafe for a coffee tea & cake. Small shop with plenty of souvenirs and there's an outside covered area for a picnic or just a breath of fresh air. Spent a couple of hours here and had a lovely time with our Dementia Care Home. Gave it 4 stars as we thought there could be a lot more exhibits, but we did like the place a lot and will be back again soon.

A charming museum.
I've visited several times, usually attending the Cobbles and Cogs Steampunk Weekends.
The way of presenting exhibits as if in old style shops, workshops, and in the form of a street is quite creative.
SatyrOfBrighton — Google review
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The museum itself is good, not excellent. There's lift access for wheelchairs. The car park isn't big but then again nor is the museum. There are lots of little activities/games for children but some of these activities are in the smallest of areas where the public would have to squeeze round the outside single file in one direction to look and read the exhibits displayed, just move it out a little. There is an old pub there which does sell alcohol and kids can get a ration of sweets (if you pay for it with the ticket) which is good. The cafe and shop are what you expect with some food and items overpriced as we all know will be. Overall I would say it is worth the ticket price and going especially for smaller children and maybe some of the elderly (be warned it is cobblestone flooring so if you/they are unsteady make sure you/they take extra care).

We had a great day in the half term. The kids LOVED the teddy bear hunt and it's great that you can go back for free for an entire year!
Eastrop Park is a recreational area close to the city center that offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities such as walking, boating and swimming in a wading pool. It features two large ponds and a smaller shallow paddle pond suitable for children. The park is well-maintained by its gardeners who keep the formal beds up-to-date. Despite being located near a busy town, it provides an oasis of calm for all age groups.
Love going there for my daily walk. Nice and clean. Would love to see more activities or things to do and can not wait for the summer to enjoy the coffee shop by the water and use the paddle boats. There is also a fitness track and a small water area where kids can play in hot weather (with picnic tables). You can also find a playground for the children.

Decent place for walk, jog and rest with beautiful trees and flowers in spring season. Boating and pool for kids to play in summer. Events that are organised like Basingstoke cultural festival. Nice time pass for elderly people with remote controlled miniature boats over Sundays in pool by Basingstoke Model Boat Club (BMBC). Duck pond to feed, park for kids to play.

Amazing park next to city centre with two good sized ponds and a smaller shallow paddle pond for kids. Nice for walk around the ponds and you can also walk towards Festival place which is just 10 min away for quick bite and shopping. Information regarding boat time/availability wasn’t correctly updated on the site. It also has two good sized parking areas but may get busy on a sunny weekend so plan accordingly.

We visited the Eastrop park last weekend and in general it was a nice experience. Pros:
- Boat/pedalo rides
- Nice play park
- Good ice cream shop with lovely and quick service
Cons:
- Absolutely disgusting toilets:( The one in the boat building was shut and the other public ones were just terrible. I hope council will do something about them soon...
- Small car park

A great park for a family day out with beautiful flower arrangement, ponds with boats, caffee and shallow pond for toddler to play.
You can also play remote control boat on the west pond.

Lovely park area with splash pool, little lake with pedalling boats to hire from The boat house. Really nice playground with variety of equipment. There's a few benches with tables and plenty of grass area to sit and have a picnic. Many bins around so it's easy to throw your rubbish before you leave. Nice footpath and cycle lane too. You can buy icecream, drinks and other refreshments at the park, next to the little lake. Although, there's sings for toilet facilities available, unfortunately they were locked and not open to the public on the day of visit. If you are going with car, there's convenient pay and display parking on the side. Otherwise, it's about 10 minutes walk from the Town centre and Festival Place parking. Overall, great place for a sunny day out if you bring all you need.

Beautiful spot, great for walking dogs and a great place to come on a hot day to cool off in the little pool. There is also a big boating lake and a cafe. The river that runs through is great for your dog to have a paddle and cool off on a hot day. My dog loves it there. Loads of seats to rest on too and lots of parking places

Such a lovely park. The gardeners do a fab job of keeping the formal beds up to date and the paddling pool, boating lake and carp pond, keep it interesting for all age groups. For such a narrow strip of land near a busy town, its feels very much like an oasis of calm.
The Anvil, a performing arts center opened in 1994, is known for its excellent acoustics and can seat 1,400 people in its auditorium. It has hosted a variety of acts including Gary Numan, Sarah Millican, and the Russian State Symphony Orchestra. The venue hosts opera singers, dancers, musicals, and stand-up comedians.
We mainly attend the Basingstoke Anvil for comedy events, such as Jimmy Carr and Michael McIntyre which are always fantastic evenings. The "festival place" multi-story car park is right next to the entrance making it so easy and convenient to park. They also offer a hassle-free online "click & collect" pre-order system for drinks prior to your arrival so that you can beat the queues - simply pick them up from the collection point which you can even order/use during your visit for event intervals.

We attended the Anvil on Wednesday. It was a treat for my mum's birthday to watch 'That will be the day'. The band were amazing, performing songs for music from the 50s through to early 80s. Some stand up comedy thrown in too which was very funny and had everybody laughing. We were encouraged to get up and dance at the end. It was three hours long. We had an interval after 1.5hrs. the bar was well stocked with drinks and also a snack bar. No where near as much seating as needed though. Friendly staff, clean and tidy. Would definitely checking this theatre production out.

Always a great place to visit that offers a good range of theatre, comedy and live music. We go several times a year. The auditorium is big enough for a great atmosphere yet small enough to feel intimate and personal to the performance.

Absolutely amazing kids program organised by Ministry of Science! The theatre looked pretty standard-of course a must for a town-Basingstoke. People love plays and other activities happening here. It seems it is stressed financially in after covid, it is good to see it is still standing high. Plays, Orchestra, local activities to showcase have a place in town.
They have online ticketing system along with food and drinks to order in advance. However, just as expected you will be happy to pay premium price for your food and drink. You won't feel bad for once or twice.

I have been to The Anvil a few times. It is a great theatre. It is great for parking and a good selection of places to get something to eat before the event. The theatre itself is not massive, so you get a great view wherever you sit. Drinks are expensive, but theatres are! It us very clean and the staff

Great theatre with varied range of entertainment with some top stars performing. The stage is set up high so front couple of seat rows do not offer a great view as you are looking up.
The Vyne, a National Trust property, is an intriguing country estate boasting a beautiful stained glass chapel, ornamental lake and walled kitchen garden. Visitors can admire the impressive tapestries inside the house or take in stunning views of the property while strolling around the lake. Although guide books were unavailable at the time of visit, there are many dog-friendly walks to enjoy through tall pine trees and around various areas of the estate.
Nice long walk with trails and fields and great views from outside the trust. Just visited today to understand the place and distance would visit with family next time to see the trust. It seems to be good half a day spend time to cover the surroundings of the trust and also visit the trust house. Anyone looking for good 6-7 mile walk altogether from town center worth visiting.

A most interesting house to visit. The tapestries were fascinating. Some of the best that I have seen
I also enjoyed walking around the lake which offers very good views of the house
One frustration was that there were no guide books available for sale. Apparently they are waiting for them from the printers. I would have thought that they would have ordered them well in advance in anticipation of the start of the tourist season.

Another stunning property from National Trust.
The house is beautiful, well maintained with all original possessions, and its display of different styles, Tudor, Victorian. The gardens are magnificent.
The land is perfect to walk and explore the breathtaking views. And all staff super warm and friendly.
Just perfect to enjoy the day out!

A nice national trust place to visit. Building work makes the entering of the place a bit narrow and long but once in it has lovely flowers and lake. Didn't visit the house today but seen it before and it's worth a walk round. The walks round the ground can be very muddy so not fit for all people, but has a lovely little bird watching hut! Not sure on non paying people being able to do the walks on offer without a ticket. The cafe is small and underwhelming - but plenty of outside sitting available and picnic benches throughout aswell. My kids enjoyed the games out on the lawn the snakes and ladders and sack races. Enjoyable place for a family day out.

A great place to visit. Over the Christmas period (2023), the property is beautifully decorated with the story of The Nutcracker. I would recommend everyone to get to the property early as it can get quite busy. The house is fabulous, and the grounds are huge. There is a lake and a wooded area. It's an easy walk around and great for the children to explore. I would recommend anyone of all age groups to visit. There is plenty of parking

Really beautiful grounds and nice woodland walks. A walk through the house is an amazing experience - the staff are the most knowledgeable I have come across in any visit to a National Trust venue (in fact any venue for that matter). Just visited the gardens today. The wild flowers in the walled garden are lovely. A good place to visit and walk round. Work on the lake means you can't walk round it at the moment, but but lots of other walkways and places to sit, and excellent ice creams!

Magnificent Tudor house, with gardens and woodlands. Good fun trying to spot the birds and wildlife in the wetlands, from the bird hide. Nice walks through the woodlands, and beside the lake. Unfortunately, due to ongoing works, it's not possible to walk all round the lake at the moment.
Lovely place to relax or have a picnic on the lawns in front of the house, there's lots of picnic tables and seats around. The tea room is quite small, although there's more seats upstairs, and was very busy, so there was quite a queue outside.

We visited in December and while the gardens have been a victim of the weather, it does appear to be a place that is stunning in spring. We will certainly be back to visit with better weather. The house itself was lovely, the Christmas theme surrounded the Nutcracker story and you follow the fairytale and you go around the rooms while also seeing the collections and paintings of the old families.

The Vyne is so pretty. We had such a wonderful walk. With toilets at the entrance and further round by the cafe hut. There is a lovely house but unfortunately as we had the dog we didn't get to see inside so I can't expand on that. But still plenty to see. After walking around the pond there is a woodland walk you can do. It has sign posts to keep you on track. Definitely worth a visit. We are so lucky to have places like these on our doorstep!!

Lovely, easy to follow woodland walks amongst very tall pine trees. Saw what I think may be roots but can find no other details about them. I didn't go in the house or cafe because I had my dog with me but everywhere else is dog-friendly and there's plenty to see walking through the grounds

Really enjoyed our first visit to The Vyne. As mentioned in other reviews the building work at the entrance detracts somewhat but once you are past it (and it's due to finish soon) you get to enjoy the tranquil peace of the place. As we had our dog with us we couldn't go inside the house but by all accounts there is plenty to see. We still however enjoyed walking the grounds, checking out the shop and sampling the cafe. Do walk around the front to see the house in all its splendour, explore the walled garden and visit the ancient oak tree and summerhouse. A really lovely NT property and one we will definitely return to.

Most of the staff was nice and informative. It was really nice being able to read and be told information, as well as see images of Tudors and Stuarts. Those who don't really know history can learn a lot. It was a one way system and there are free lockers. It was easier to put things down because originally we didn't want to. We were told we can take photos but no videos. Eventually one of the staff said we can't take photos??? That's why I put less stars. Her words was I was posing. Anybody who takes photos poses in their photos so... It was rather rude. I was not dressed up or anything either, I came to visit after work as I was in the area. I'm a person who likes to take photos hence why there's so many attached on my review. Other people tend to look and listen without taking photos of the rooms but I find the interior and architecture beautiful. In general I always take photos at every church/ Chapel because my mums a strong Catholic and it makes her happy to see that I'm at a church.

Beautiful gardens caught betwixt Winter and Spring...will be magnificent in a month or two. Lovely walk through the property to the bird hide at the lake. Sadly the interior of the house was riddled with furniture covered with dust covers which means a return visit. The tapestries and artwork were exquisite and highlighted the history of the house.
The cafe had a few issues with queues for hot drinks but the soup and hunk of bread was wonderfully tasty.

The house is the large with plenty of rooms to look around. You could easily spend around 40mins in there or more. It was not busy so can easily go at your own pace and not be rushed. The river has walk which is very pleasant. We really enjoyed our day there.

Very beautiful house. It is not as big as other National Trust places but has a long and interesting history. The gardens are great to explore especially September where all the dahlias are in full bloom. The estate includes a wooded area as well ideal for walks. For those without a car the closest train station is Basingstoke and from there it's a 10 min taxi ride to the property (will cost around 10£).

Visited this popular site in early spring, taking a walk around the lake and house grounds. Impressive sight and a good cafe also. Forest walks can be very muddy, though, especially after recent rainfall, so dig out the wellies!

My review is based on the grounds, cafe and shop. Went in February when the house was not open to public. Pleasant, peaceful place to go for a walk. Plenty of birds to see and hear on the wetlands. Cafe was okay had the jacket potato with vegan chilli and coleslaw £7.25. Got charged an extra pound for a little vegan cheese which wasn't very tasty. Was nice but potato and chilli portions were small. A mug of black coffee was about £2.75. The National Trust shop had some lovely items including plants, scarves, biscuits, chocolate, jewellery etc.. i think this would be a more enjoyable day out in the Spring and Summer when there are more flowers and plants to see on the grounds and when the house is open.

One of the most beautiful buildings I saw so far.
A big garden around where you can walk. A nice lake with birds which is lovely.
There is an ancient aok that is more than 600 years old, magnificent.
The house has a lot of beautiful paintings.
There is also a shop and a little coffee restaurant for a break.
Car park is not an issue, plenty of space and is free.
Manydown Family Fun offers a delightful family day out with a variety of activities covered by the entrance price. The on-site food options, though limited, are of good quality and cooked to order. Visitors can enjoy a tractor ride of substantial length and have fun navigating through the maze. However, there might be some waiting time for petting animals without an efficient system in place to manage the backlog. Overall, it's an enjoyable experience for children around 2-4 years old.
Great place to take the kids with lots to keep them busy. Price on the door isn't bad but it is great that once you are in, all the activities are covered. The food is fresh prepared and not too pricey so overall a good day out.

Had a lovely memorable day out with the Grandchildren yesterday, all for a very reasonable price ! The Maize Maze was challenging, the tractor/trailer ride was good and the children loved all the inflatables. Cute baby donkey and piglets. Good to be able to park so near the entrance too. A really good day out, kept the grandchildren amused all day with very little effort from us ! Excellent !

Lovely family day out, entrance price covers all the activities with exception of 80p for a bag of food. The food on site although limited (burgers, hotdogs, bacon rolls, baked potato and sandwiches - potentially more options earlier on) was very good quality for the price and cooked to order. The tractor ride was a good length and the maze was good fun. It was quite a long wait to pet the animals and they didn't seem to have any system to speed it up when there was a back log (once in people seemed to have unlimited time ). My children are 4 and almost 2 and had a good time.

We recently made our second visit to Manydown Farm, it was fantastic! Great play areas for children which is huge but you can still keep tabs on them easaily. Maize Maze was great fun and all of the children in our group enjoyed it - they ranged fro m2 years to 6 years.
Food is great value, burgers etc from their farm shop.
We spent nearly 5 hours there and were exhausted when we left!

Nice big park to play with and lots of fun to be had. The animal sections of the park are very well managed, although in the past other sections of the park seemed neglected; I am pleased to say that there is lots of new toys for summer 2017. The Maize maze is brilliant fun, quite large in area with very a tall healthy maize crop forming the walls .

Another fantastic day out at Manydown. Lovely, safe environment with plenty for the kids to do. We particularly like the fact there are no hidden costs, once you've paid to get in, that's it - they can climb up the bouncy slide as many times as they like! The bouncy pillow and sunken trampolines are brilliant and the giant sandpit is always a favorite. We will definitely return again.

A great day out with our toddler! Lots to do, he loved the sheep race and trampolines. Animal petting and feeding, onsite food decent (burgers, potatoes etc), crazy golf, tractor rides... The only downside is that he can't use the bouncy play area as he's only 2, but good that they have safety in mind. Definitely will go again.

Nice relaxed small farm with plenty of activities for small children. Been twice now once for Halloween (pumpkin carving included) and once in June. Sheep races are fun and the trampolines and inflatable slide keeps children busy for hours. Definitely recommended
Festival Place in Basingstoke is a vibrant hub for entertainment, featuring The Anvil with its top-notch acoustics and Anvil Arts offering diverse performances. The area hosts annual events like the kite and transport festivals, as well as the music festival B LOVE, marking the culmination of the Basingstoke Festival. Additionally, visitors can unwind and have fun by catching the latest blockbuster movies at Vue Cinema within Festival Place shopping center.
The Willis Museum & Sainsbury Gallery is a small yet well-organized local history museum that boasts an array of diverse exhibits, including a vintage wedding cake from 1898. The museum is enjoyable for two adults to spend an afternoon exploring and reminiscing about the history of Basingstoke. However, the art exhibition featuring W. Heath Robinson may not be suitable for children. Despite its limited size, the museum has friendly and welcoming staff who provide excellent service.
Great place to go and look at the history of Basingstoke, the sainsbury art gallery was holding an exhibition of Ian Kirkpatrick and his 2d and 3d art pieces. Worth a look, there is also a nice cafe situated at the back of the art gallery, a nice fresh look and very welcome. The gallery and museum was free on entry but donations are welcome. The lady who greeted us was very friendly and full of knowledge.

Lovely little museum! No lift for a pram but welcoming staff watched it while we walked around.
Really great to see the history of Basingstoke and browse the exhibition.

Very nice place, in walking distance from train station/shopping mall with parking and plenty of restaurants. Museum itself may appear small, yet it manages to use little space quite well. There are several exhibitions, or so it was the case during my visit today, three to be precise. Staff is very friendly and they do run little café for convenient snacks break. Free entry is just cherry on top.
Dominik Kuthan — Google review
Small but well laid out and interesting. An enjoyable afternoon's visit for two adults, I wouldn't say that the exhibition we went to (the art of W. Heath Robinson) would be suitable for children.

Really interesting local museum… their temporary shoe exhibition was particularly special. Spanning 3 plus centuries, beautifully curated with interesting and clear interpretation. With the added bonus of a rare close up to many items on display. A must see for locals and non locals alike.

Not friendly people entered the building said hello to the man sitting near the entrance barely spoke to me, went into the gift shop nice things in there man serving barely spoke there either. Probably all volunteers but manners cost nothing when you’re interacting with members of the public, not much to see had the same exhibits in there for over 50 years no wonder it’s free admission probably stick with Milestones from now on.

This was a lovely little museum. The staff on the door was very welcoming and friendly, and helpful. There were some very interesting artifacts found at local Roman sites, which I hadn't seen before. It didn't take very long to get around but there was a lot of good, interesting, information to read, so had I not visited with a child I could have spent more time there. I would visit again.

Compact exhibition space in a convenient location, close to theatres, cinema, shops, restaurants and parking. Have loved every exhibition I've been to there, including the current one featuring Ladybird book artists. Check opening days & hours before visiting as tickets need to be booked ahead due to the limitations on visitor numbers.
Basing House is a 16th-century Tudor castle that has been converted into a museum. It offers historical information, community events, and guided tours for visitors. Although the museum was officially closed, a Christmas fayre was held on November 28th, 2021. Visitors parked near the ruins and were able to explore most of them except for the garden area. The ruins were impressive and showcased how people constructed such structures hundreds of years ago.
A lovely day out. Very informative and interesting. Nice enough for adults to get their history fix and enough room for children to explore and play as well.
Glenn Fisher — Google review
Although this place is called Basing House, it is mostly only ruins to be seen. The reception is some distance from the car park, with a walk along the river Loddon. YOu get the tickets by the only standing building, a 16th century barn, and then have another walk along and across a road to get to the ruins. One needs a lot of imagination to figure our what the place might have looked like several centuries ago, but there is a short video in a room with a museum which helps explain the role of this house during the Civil War, when the fortified house was captures by Cromwell's forces. And aerial photograph there also helps.
T Hartberg — Google review
Take a beautiful walk around the remains of this Tudor house and garden, that was raised to the ground by Oliver Cromwell and his men in 1645. Impressive bank and ditch earth works still remain and give a real feel to the scale of the site. Can also visit the Great Barn, the only structure to remain from the time. Nice museum and gift shop. A great day out!
Nikki Read — Google review
Museum was officially closed but there was a Christmas fayre on 28 November 2021. The parking took us to the ruins and while trying to find the Basing House we walked around most of the ruins except the garden. I was amazed to imagine how people consteucted such structures hundreds of years ago.
Finally, we found the centre of attraction the Basing House in the form of Christmas marketplace. People were selling Christmas items. It was cold but people were coming and going.
There was an old regimental show with gun fire. Stall to showcase old British lifestyle and activity stalls for kids.

Not really suitable for wheelchairs as the car park is a 10 minute walk along the canal which is very uneven and muddy in early season. Easter egg hunt was also a let down as 7 children managed to find 1 wooden egg after an hour. They had to collect 10 to receive a handful of celebrations sweets and entry into a draw to win a Teddy. Also the Signage was none existing because it did not correspond with the nap issued.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great place to spend a few hours exploring. You can try find street parking or head over to the pub. From there it's a short walk. Across the road is the main fort and battlefields used during reenactments and events. Very good for kids to run around in.
Niko “Wäinämöinen” Holm — Google review
Not a huge amount to see, mainly ruins and an old empty barn, but reasonably priced and with an annual ticket you can come back as many times as you like for a year. That's fine as a Basingstoke resident.
Good Lego model in the kiosk.

We had our wedding here on 4th June. After having had to postpone our big day twice due to COVID, and having had bad experiences with another venue, we couldn't be more glad that we decided to go with Basing House as our venue. David and Kirstie were amazing throughout the preparations, and made sure our wedding was everything we wanted and more. The venue itself is just stunning, and made for a beautiful place to have our fairytale day. We couldn't be more appreciative of everything that Basing House did for us, and how special our day was as a result.

Excellent trip with lots to see, museum and ruins in Old Basing, make sure you cross the road from old barn and visit the old house and museum
Crabtree Plantation is a hidden gem featuring the Bolton Arch, butterflies and various walking paths that wind through woods and fields. Despite its proximity to a busy road, it offers a tranquil escape with ample opportunity for dog walkers or those seeking a quick walk in nature. The park's peaceful setting makes it an ideal spot for longer walks as well. Although not widely known, Crabtree Plantation is becoming increasingly popular as a nature reserve and provides visitors with an enjoyable outdoor experience.
Large open grass area with deciduous woodland. Parking and play areas for children.
Great for walking, flying kites, picnics and outdoor games.
Only downside is the absence of toilets.

Have a dog that needs walking, come here. Or, on the A303/M3 to London with screaming kids, stop here and have them run about for 10 mins. It's better than crashing.

A little tricky to spot, but so worth it. A beautiful, peaceful walk through the trees, even with a busy road alongside. It started with a run in with a swarm of ladybirds that provided loads of laughs (I have never seen so many in one place and they all seemed to love me). A few dog walkers around. I will definitely go back and walk longer next time.

Skizone in Basingstoke offers a unique experience with its revolving slope, allowing visitors to confidently practice movements they might hesitate to do on snow. The mirror and adjustable slope angle and speed cater to individual abilities, while engaging instructors use analogies to correct technique. Visitors appreciate the efficient learning environment, as evidenced by two kids becoming competent skiers after just three sessions. The facility also offers snowboarding lessons for those looking to expand their skills.
We've had two lessons now with different instructors and they have both been fantastic. I honestly didn't know what to make of the revolving slope to start with, but now I think it's brilliant. It allows you to confidently try out movements that I probably would hesitate to do on snow. The mirror is great for adjusting your posture and the slope angle and speed can be completely tailored to your ability. The instructors are very engaging and use a range of analogies to help correct your technique. We're hooked and will keep coming back!

Good facilities and instructors. After 3 sessions my 2 kids (11 & 8) could ski competently. No time wasted on expensive and cold ski lessons in resort - they hit the slopes straight away!! Money well spent. Snowboarding lessons up next!!

Excellent chance for the kids and myself to get the basics of skiing. The instructors were excellent with the kids, passionate about coaching and adapted to each of the kids needs (and myself). The rolling carpet is great. Would recommend this to learners and anyone refreshing their skills. Thanks Basingstoke team!

My 5 year old grandson and 2 other children had lessons which lasted 10 minutes followed by a 15 Mon break then a further 10min tuition. The instructor was good, connecting well with the children and using language they rapidly understood. On leaving we were advised when the lessons were cheapest

This is a great place to learn and improve your skiing technique. We've been coming here for over two years (when it was operating as skiplex) and the dedication and enthusiasm of the instructors fantastic.
Bear in mind it is not quite as on the snow but everything learnt here is absolutely how one should ski on either surface

The Basingstoke Miniature Railway is a popular tourist destination maintained by a group of model engineering enthusiasts. The attraction offers miniature steam locomotive rides and displays, which are great for all ages. Visitors can learn about the creation process from the enthusiastic team and get close to the locomotives, even sitting on them. The railway itself is an impressive feature that is ideal for children, with two laps costing only 1.50 pounds and including a ticket.
We had such a lovely morning here! Very easy to find and free parking. Donation/£1 programme entry. The enthusiasts are so happy to talk about their creations and for you to get up close and even sit on them! The miniature railway is brilliant and a really lovely feature.

We visit here every year for Halloween almost as a tradition. The recently built structure next to the track switches on lots of lights for security which made the ride less spooky and spoiling the fun.
Apart from that it is a fun silly ride for a couple of quid which I would highly recommend for anyone for a casual visit. They are open during non Halloween times too if you are into miniature train rides but don't like the dark spooky setup over Halloween
