Umberto was an excellent guide of Carrara. He responded to my requirements well, and respected my time limitations whilst gaining the understanding I needed for my work. Grazie Umberto. I hope to bring more people on a complete tour next time! Very informative. 🙏🙏

We did the quarry tour and chose the option for interior designers and architects. Umberto showed us the line of production from start to finish. From the tops of the mountains where the marble is excavated, to a stone yard that finishes slices and polishes, to an artisan workshop making custom pieces for private clients, the entire 2.5 hours was beautiful jaw dropping and very very very informative and interesting (for those that find stones and hand made finishes and materials and finishes interesting!)

Thank to the professional guide, We had an amazing tour of the Carrara marble supply chain, from the quarry to the artists' shop. It was an awesome experience that gave us a full view of the marble's industry in Carrara. Excellent for quality, flexibility, and availability.

You must book with Umberto! He is extremely knowledgeable and incredible friendly. We booked with Umberto to take our party of 6 to San Gimignano, Siena and a local winery (Il Cellese). Umberto was the perfect guide offering various information regarding the Tuscany region as well as providing us with a comfortable and spacious van to accommodate our larger party. I would recommend Umberto to any group looking to travel the region. Thank you so much!

After much searching for a tour to the Carrara Marble Quarry, I found CTTours that was willing to create the perfect private tour to meet our needs. I emailed CTTours and very quickly received a reply from Umberto. I told him exactly what we wanted to do and when. Umberto arranged a wonderful and exciting day for us that we will never forget! Carrara is so amazing and different; even great for kids! Don't miss the 4 x 4 tour to the top of the quarry!

Colonnata is an old Italian town located in the Carrara municipality, nestled amidst the Apuan Alps. This place has gained worldwide recognition primarily for two reasons - its marble quarries and a specialty food item called Lardo di Colonnata that is made from pork fat. Colonnata has a rich history and serves as a great example of traditional Italian culture.
CarraraFiere, a vast cultural venue in the Massa Carrara region, is currently serving as a vaccination center for the area. It is impressively organized, boasting helpful staff and clear signage from entrance to exit. Guidance is readily available if needed. Vaccinations can be obtained here without prior booking, but it's advisable to reserve in advance. This expansive facility has hosted major events such as the Unified World Championships (Martial Arts) and an Oriental expo simultaneously.
Very big cultural event center in Massa Carrara region, presently used as a vaccination center for the area. Very well organized, helpful staff. From the entrance to exit clear indications and there's always someone to guide in case of need. You can directly get vaccinated here without any prior booking with a valid Tessera Sanitaria, however it's always recommend to book it beforehand.

I visited Lido Doride Beach for aperitivo and was impressed by the pleasant ambiance near the pool, enhanced by a live DJ. The restaurant's location is ideal, and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. However, it is worth noting that compared to other establishments in the area, prices were slightly high. Additionally, I must mention that Lido Doride Beach is a charming newly constructed venue with Sunday nights being particularly delightful. Overall, it offers an excellent experience at this beachside destination.

The Cava Museo Fantiscritti is an open-air museum located in Carrara's renowned marble quarries. It showcases a collection of excavating tools and sculptures from the local history, with guided tours available for visitors at an additional cost. The cave itself is incredibly large and offers a one-hour trip, with the option to bring your car for an adventurous drive through the long tunnel. However, be prepared for a car wash afterwards as it can get quite dusty.
Second, if not third time we have visited here over the years. Fun drive up from Carrara, just be careful and you should be fine.
Little open air museum next to shop is worth a brief visit to get insights into the early quarry workers. Shop also worth a visit.

Nice 1 hour trip in the cave.
Huge room in the hill. Incredible cave size.
Entry costs 30,- EUR per 2 people & car.
If you take your car into the cave, it is adventure road in the long tunnel. When you leave it, you will neeed a car wash. There are sevetal car washes in the Carrara city, no problem.

Thursday/October
When We arrived A woman (i think her name was Katharina?) drove out of the cave.
We approached her and asked for the next jeeptour, but the last tour left 5 minutes before and she was about to go home.
But then she did a whole tour just for us 2!
So kind! It was so impressive to be inside of a mountain in a cave of that size!
She even drove us through the mountain-Tunnel to the other side to the office, so we could pay by card, as we did not have enough cash at hand! So bring cash!
The quarry itself is very beautiful and you can still see men working hard inside (until 15:00 every day). They will explain the machinery as well.
You get to wear a helmet(cool!), get the chance for some souvenirs and they take some pictures (free!) of you.
We were very impressed by the industry and the machinery and the size of everything, it’s massive!
It’s a combination of a working place and a tourist attraction. Marble is just a beautiful material.
Very happy we got the chance to visit this!

Super experience. We had a very good English speaking guide. She explained everything very well. Also nice to drive into the cave with your own car (instead of their busses, it changed cause of corona, but to my opinion it has to stay like that! It's pretty cool). Impressive to see how marble is cut and where all that marble in the world is coming from for ages already).

This museum was a perfect way to explain the history of marble mining to our daughter. The owners are passionate about the museum and it was created by their grandfather to honor all the ancestors who dedicated their lives to this work. The small museum shop was great for souvenirs. The owner even gave our daughter a piece of marble!

Though the cathedral in itself is beautiful and certainly worth a detour, something else has definitely installed this monument in my memory. My wife and I were lucky enough to stumble upon this cathedral while the organist was practising. It had been a long time since we heard such beautiful music, played with such heart and melody. It really reached our souls. This moment was the real gem of our trip to Italy. Thank you

Parco "Dott. Sebastiano Puccinelli - Sindaco di Carrara (1976-1980)"
Parco Puccinelli is a fantastic spacious park that caters to everyone except dogs. However, some of the play equipment may require upgrading due to its age. An additional improvement would be to ensure the large water features are either modified or closed off for increased child safety. The park offers a wide variety of different play areas spanning a significant area, making it perfect for families with children.
Loved this park its so big and different play areas. Parking is easy to find. Very kid friendly. Alot of trees.

The magnificent palace known as Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara - Palazzo Cybo Malaspina serves as the headquarters for the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. This impressive building not only showcases a wide array of exhibitions featuring paintings and sculptures, but it also demonstrates enlightened management by seamlessly blending educational pursuits with public interest through guided evening visits.

It can be visited, but with some difficulty, as academic lessons take place inside.

It has a room with the largest collection of marbles in Italy and a plaster cast gallery unique in the world with plaster casts by Canova and many other Italian sculptors. The Museo Civico del Marmo is an antiquated exhibition showcasing the process of marble extraction in the region. While somewhat dry and dusty, it remains intriguing due to its collection of vintage photographs and testimonials from contemporaries. A visit to the museum is incomplete without a car journey to witness the site of marble extraction, even without a guided tour. Unfortunately, the outdoor section was closed during our visit, which was disappointing.
Very interesting. The films which illustrated how marble was quarried in the past show what a hard job it was. Lovely slso to see displays of old tools, photos of men at work and marble from Carrara, Tuscany, the rest of Italy and some samples from around the world. All covid measures were respected.

My experience was the summer of 1988. I was with the first group to start archeology (aka clean up) on this beautiful place. We stayed in a school at the bottom of the hill and trekked up every day. The neighboring people treated us like family because they were so happy to have us helping fix up their treasure. Massa Carrara's mayor and council made sure our off time was spent enjoying the best of their beautiful city. I certainly will never forget my experience with Castello di Moneta.

(Translated by Google) The castle of Moneta is actually not complete, what remains are only ruins. The place is enchanting, very quiet and relaxing with an exceptional panorama that sweeps across the territory of Carrara to the sea.
It can be reached with a marked path that starts from the village of Fossola lasting about 45 minutes and climbs with a good slope for an asphalted stretch with houses then in the second stretch you have to continue on foot because the path is narrow and dirt.
Another way to reach the ruins is to always pass by the town of Fossola but taking the road that continues until you reach Santa Lucia and here too there is an indication on the road and you cannot go wrong. The path is shorter and above all less tiring suitable for everyone.
Recommended place.

Luogo consigliato.

It can be reached either on foot or by car, but I recommend going on foot if you are not an expert, because the streets are really narrow. Located in a strategically favored position for the widespread control of the surrounding territory in past centuries. The panorama that can be enjoyed from the hill located close to the town of Fontia is something wonderful, the view extends from the Apuan Alps to the East, in a direct line of sight with the Foce del Pianza at the base of the Sagro up to Monte Brugiana which marks the border with the city of Massa; while to the south you can admire the valley below with the town of Carrara and the coastline of Marina di Massa and Carrara.
