Aksla...the mountain top, it covers the entire view of fjords and islands around Alesund. City train is available to reach at the top and stairs goes all the way down to the sentrum.
You can eat a lot of blue berries here as well :-)

Even through the fog, it was a beautiful sight to see from the top. There's a few areas to explore around the top, there's old na.zi bunkers, which my children enjoyed exploring, 418 steps to tier them out too.
The cafe is OK. The cakes were nice, the coffee needs improving!

You could either get to the Aksla viewpoint in Ålesund by walking 418 steps up the mountain or take the easy route by car or bus, then you’ll be starting from the top. Amazing view! You can take great panoramic pictures of Ålesund from the viewpoint.

One of perhaps 3 best-known views in Norway. Not to be missed. Beside the inclement stairs, there's also the much gentler asphalted road from the back side.

Fantastic view, well worth the trek up the 408 steps. I have a fear of hights and could manage it, it’s not too narrow and there are some seats on the way to rest. You can either pay 100 NOK to access the view on top or you can buy something in the cafe and then go up the stairs inside. Alternatively, you can go a bit higher up and enjoy the view for free.
Monika S — Google review
Great view, must see! We drove up there instead of taking the stairs because we only stayed a few hours in Ålesund. It’s a bit icky that you have to pay to get the best view. It’s fine if the money go to the kommune, but if it’s a private establishment it’s really really trashy. Especially since you couldn’t even enjoy a coffee or a meal there. We did pay to get in tho, we weren’t gonna miss that.
The Aksla mountain peak provides a stunning view of Alesund, including the old town, harbor and archipelago. It also offers a panoramic vista of the majestic Sunnmøre Alps in the distance. Visitors can access the summit either by foot or car. However, parking spaces are limited and during peak tourist season, there may be congestion caused by cruise ships docking at the harbor.
(Translated by Google) Great view! Nice place to take photos. Alesund from above, with the old town and harbors. However, if there are 3 cruise ships in the harbor, it can get full.
Have started up with the WoMo, limited parking space, but there are instructors who will help you.

The Atlantic Sea-Park in Alesund boasts a contemporary cold water aquarium featuring various local sea life species. Visitors can witness the diving show where giant fish feed and go into a frenzy, all from the fjords that connect to the aquarium. The park serves as both an educational and celebratory destination for sea life, particularly fish found off the coast. While there are no brightly colored coral reef fish, the diverse selection is just as enthralling.
Nice place in a lovely setting. They had a bit where you could make your own river which the kids loved .

Great morning spent here. Arrived early to see the penguin and otter feeding. Loved the really enormous fish tank with seating in front of it - mesmerising. Location beside the sea is stunning.
Claire Tait — Google review
We stopped in Alesund on our cruise and this was one of the available excursions. It was superb, the kids (and adults) had a great time. From small splash pools where you can get hands on to several enormous aquariums. We had 3 hours here and we could have spent longer.
Ross McEwan — Google review
It’s a great aquarium - they feed the fish, otters, penguins, and seals in front of you! These demonstrations are in both Norwegian and English. Tank descriptions are also in both Norwegian and English. There is a lot to learn about Norwegian and Arctic coastal wildlife, as well as the environmental impact of salmon farming in Norway. Cafe has great coffee. You can buy tickets at the Aquarium doors. Gift shop has nice combination of aquarium-related gifts, as well as some Norwegian wool clothing.
Sorrel Knott — Google review
Very nice aquarium with one of the biggest outdoor area, you can see the wolf fish, cod, seals, crab, lobster
They also have penguins

Staying in Alesund for one night, we were looking for a nice attraction on our way out of the city and somehow got to the Atlantic Sea-Park: a very serene and beautiful place. The visit is worth the enterance fee (which is not high for two adults). Indoors, there are several aquariums featuring an abundance of sea creatures, with informative and relevant games for children. There is also a section dedicated to the Salmon industry which we found interesting. Outdoors there are penguins and a large pool of seals, gorgeous landscape combined with the view of the sea. On your way out you can find a merchandise store and a small Cafe. All in all, the park is a highly recommended place to visit if you're in the area and got some spare time to spend.
Lia S. — Google review
A great place, lots to see and do for everyone, especially children. The outside area has a big playground- sandpit and water/wet play area (worth taking a spare change of clothes). You can also see penguins, otters and seals. Views are amazing. We spent most of the time outside, soaking up the sun.
There is a lovely café on the premises. We enjoyed our coffee and ice cream, you can get hot food too.
The staff was very friendly, helped with booking a taxi. They all speak English. All the info in the aquarium is in Norwegian and English.
We'd definitely visit this place again 😊👌

An amazing impression of the underwater world in Norway. Great educational games for kids (and adults!) and the park also provides an insight into Norway's fishing industry. Friendly staff and good food. Try the fish cake :) also the free water with lime and mint and the coffee and tea options were great.
However, it would be great if they had more language options than English and Norwegian - lot of wasted potential, especially since the park is catered to the interests and needs of kids under 12. What about digital options in Germany, Dutch, Italien, French,.......
Despite that, we had an awesome time in the Atlantikpark.
I would recommend everybody to go there :)

Lovely little place showing off many species of sea life found in the North Sea. They even have penguins, otters and seals! Worth a visit.
Tone Castro — Google review
What a great place to visit. For all ages. Modern, spacious, vg educational signage. Inside and outside exhibits, focussed on local marine wildlife which is great for international tourists wanting to learn about Norway (except for the Humboldt penguins of course). The otters, seals and the penguins were very entertaining! Their outdoor enclosures were very well constructed, built into the existing coastline so set in a very natural setting. The little cafe was good with views to the outside, and the shop had nice things too.
Irene Krajewska — Google review
This is a celebration and education of sea life but especially fish. The important thing is that the fish are those found in the sea off the coast here. That means there are no bright coral reef fish but what there is here is just as diverse and fascinating. A great place to bring the children.
It is clean and wheelchair accessible with good toilets, a shop and cafe.

Animal feeding hours are great shows, takes hours to see everything and all the corners of the aquarium. Good restaurant, activity room is a must for kids, and adults too.

not worth the money. It's certainly not worth the 1 km walk that one has to do up the hill from where the bus no. drops us off. I do not understand why the bus can not do the extra km and drop us and pick us up from.outaide the aquarium. some staff were quite good explaining stuff.
I prefer the London Aquarium, though. a lot better and more varieties .

We had a great time we visited from USA and enjoyed the open concept seal and otter encounters right against the water outside. The penguin feeding was adorable and the entire facility was clean. Staff was friendly and the food in the cafe was delicious. Souvenirs are also well priced. Very wheelchair accessible and fun for all ages.

The sealife was wonderful. We saw the otters being fed. Kids loved the rocks to climb on. The price was reasonable. You have to take a bus or taxi, it's far from town. The restaurant was delicious too. The people were helpful and a nice gift shop.

Wonderful for kids and grans to spend time together and learn. Many exhibits about fish in Norway. Live fish, crabs, rays, seals, otters and penguins. There is an Octopus with two slides. A sandpit and water maze to keep the little one busy.
Cafe and souvenier shop too.
Adult entry is 255Nok per person.
Parking is quite a distance.
It is a very long walk if you take the public bus.
Love the Fish feeding by diver at 1pm.
2pm Otter feeding. 2:30 pm penguin feeding.

We really liked it and we got there only one hour before closing time, so we didn’t even see any of the animals being fed or participated in other activities. Sunnmøre Museum is an open-air museum located in Sunnmøre, Norway that showcases historic homes and period boats from medieval times to present. The museum offers exhibits on people's history, houses, and objects from the local region, providing visitors with a glimpse into life several hundreds of years ago. Set amidst a beautiful natural landscape, the museum also offers recreational opportunities for those who are not interested in museums.
It is oneof the most underrated museums in Norway. With people's history, houses and objects from local region, Sunnmøre, you fell you are traveling in time and feel part of the life several hundreds years ago. Also the museum is located on s very nice natural landscape which offers a nice recreational opportunity of you are not into museum. It was just ok, the boats were first class in there shed, loads of wood buildings on site, you just can't get a sense of how they lived walking around the outside of a lump of wood, most houses been set up inside but all locked up, I think all doors should be open at least, so you can see how they are made. The wood buildings have been donated, not old enough to be Viking either, the few boats I did like and are very old and worth a look.

Went here as part of trip from our Norwegian fjords cruise. It was a wet sleety day and very cold. There were very few other visitors there that day.
It was nice to look around and get a rough idea of how things used to be. Good information on the signs around the site. I found the boat museum very interesting. Our tour guide was not the best (nothing to do with the museum).
I would like to visit again in the summer when there’s more happening. And it would be lots better.

Head to the Museum Center uo the stairs once you're on the grounds. You can purchase a single ticket for around 110nk. There's a well lit seating area for eating. Some sandwiches (cold and hot) to purchase, drinks (cold $ hot) too. Some quality souvenirs available for purchase in the same area.
The ticket is a sticker that you put on your shirt. The outside displays contains dozens of authentic structures from several time periods. There is some strenuous walking, but hey, it's Norway you're going to get uphill treks just about everywhere.
You can go into several of the outdoor buildings, they're easy to identify as the doors are open.
They're two indoor museums: One dedicated to local history and the ship museum. We only went into the ship, which had some very cool displays. Also, there is a Viking replica docked behind the Ship museum and you're allowed on board if you like.
Overall a nice walking experience with history that I'd recommend if you have the time. Horses graze in a pasture between the church And the exhibits. The nearby churches grounds are also accessible.

An excellent way to spend a couple of hours. Under cover you can read interesting info about the old sailing vessels on display and then it's a short walk uphill to a modern cafe, gift shop and further museum.
Climb the long winding path uphill to see a variety of old, wooden, grass-roofed cabins and an old school run.
Even interesting when you're walking in the rain and the water is soaking you through!

We enjoyed our visit to the Sunnmore Museum. They have both inside displaces and outdoor historical buildings. The outdoor area is pretty hilly, so it might not be a good fit for those with mobility challenges, but the indoor displays would be easily accessible.

Absolutely wonderful view 😍 It takes 1.5-2 hours (down to top and return). Remember it's easy for Norwegian or other people who live in similar terrain, for people without experience in trekking it's NOT easy walk. There are a lot of stones (may be slippery) and mud during rain or after rain. Take good shoes, comfy clothes, water and some snacks and go to the top carefully, the view is worth of your effort. The path is a little bit hidden and not very easy to find. To get it, find sign Sukkertoppen (on Google maps it's called Sukkerstopen tursti) between houses located close to the school, where you can leave you car (when school is closed) unfortunatelly there is no other parking close to.

Hiked during a cruise holiday, DO NOT PAY FOR P&O EXCURSION.
We paid £22 for a taxi from Alasund centre to the start of the trail, (Taxi driver very helpful and knew exactly where to go)
Then we walked back (about 3-4km)
P&O Charged £58 each for the excursion!
The trek is nice, some harder bits but fine for a novice, I'd say Walking boots a must as Rocky and easy to jar an ankle.
Views from the top as you can see from our pictures weren't great as cloud covered the peak but views on the way we're great.
On the way back down we passed the 1pm P&O excursion group. Poor buggers were like a 50 person long centipede.
Definatly do this on your own at your own pace it's far more peaceful and beautiful.
Happy Hiking!

Great location to walk around a very cute city with plenty to eat, drink, shop, and has boat options. If/when I come back to Ålesund, I would only stay here. Thanks to Fredrick and Genn for all your extra customer service, thanks to the gentleman at the restaurant from Italy who was joyful, efficient, and had great advice and to all the people at Hotel Brosundet who made our 2 days here memorable. The best hotel in the city center with an amazing view. It was very romantic and cozy inside especially near the fire place. The rooms were a little small but everything else made up for it. The hotel is situated on the water edge. They have a great gym and a special jacuzzi tabs which you need to reserve in the front desk for 45 minutes. They prepare it for you with hot water and lots of bubbles. Definitely was my favorite relaxing part of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was very delicious with lots of options. Meretha in the front lobby was outstanding and went out of her way to make you feel special!!!!!!! The hotel inside had a rustic modern look with lots of sitting areas. We enjoyed the special teas they had at the breakfast area. This was my favorite hotel in all of Norway.

This wasn’t the nicest hotel we have stayed in but the price was great for what you’re getting. The rooms are simple but it had a great shower and comfortable bed along with a glass door that opened directly over the water way and overlooked the town. All of this considered I would highly recommend this as a stop for a couple of days in Ålesund.
Ålesund isn’t a place I’d stay more than a few days max (we did 1.5 before heading to several locations further inland) but it’s also not worth skipping. The hike up the hill overlooking the town and the light trails up there is completely worth the price of admission, as is a stroll around the town center. Brosundet is a 5 min walk to both and is right next to one of the few parking decks in town. Definitely stay a day or two before you head inland to where the real beauty is.

This was a wonderful place to stay. The spot right on the waterfront was ideal, and they make such good use of it - being able to dip in the sea from the outdoor sauna, and the breakfast room and restaurant stretched along that length of the buildings.

Great museum. If you are interested in history of Alesund, this is the place to go. Very informative and interesting.
My favorite museum of our trip to Norway. If traveling as a family, there is a map with stickers where you have to place the items in the correct rooms, so the whole family is engaged.

Staff extremely polite and friendly. Really detailed history of the fire and the town's restoration. Lifeboat section was amazing and totally unexpected.
Only feedback would be that while the majority of the museum is translated to English, the basement sections detailing the Second World War era isn't. The pictures and equipment were interesting however.

Only complaint is that the basement with the World War II displays did not have enough English signage. One of the best city museums that we visited on our recent cruise of Norway and Iceland. We loved the covered rescue boat in the attic.

Pleasant experience. We loved reading everything in English but could not find the easy interpretation on the German occupation section. We are big fans of the Norwegian moral stance during WW2.
We have taken lots of photos of the exhibits. Thank you.
Very nice town with Jugend style house.
Stay 1-2 nights to explore and enjoy the city before or after the fjords and mountains.
We visited end of May and it was not crowded.
Several outdoor activities available.
But many things van be done by your own, public transport will take you to many nice sites in Alesund and the surrounding areas.
See or download FRAM app, and consider the concept Travel as a local, i.e bus and ferry to Geiranger about 7h leaving at 9 am.
We walk up the 400+ steps to view point Fjellstua with our boys 2 and 5 year old. You can also do it:-)

Girl at the information desk was very kind and informative at giving at directions to go around town and see the highlights. However, she said the art nouveau museum opened at 10am, but it actually opens at 11am so I walked towards here for nothing... Please be more accurate with these details as it might changed tourists limited time in the city

Alesund is a city that bathes the sea. Its views, its peaceful streets are ideal for walking. Climbing high and admiring the incomparable views is priceless. Recommended.
Really old house bought by the pentecostal church for its miraculous properties. Really friendly people, Perfect English spoken of course, Nice coffee and cakes. I won't spoil the story for you. Some of the timbers were 600 years old. Really nice place to visit because we were made so welcome in an anxiety house and museum. And no-one can accuse me of being religious.

Accidentally fell upon the museum after climbing down from the mountain hill top.
So glad I found this place, rich history with an amazing story.
The smell of the waffles were to good not to try and they did not disappoint as they were so delicious.
The staff were so welcoming and kind, it is amazing to see the love and pride they have for this house.

The house that did not burn!

A true miracle this house survived the fire. For July 2018 open every day from 10 to 3 when cruise ships in. Don't miss this! The museum is free and serves excellent coffee for only Kr25.

Best non-tourist thing to do in this town - the couple is warm and knowledgeable. If you want to get away from the cruise crowd and have a good Norwegian waffle come here

The Fisheries Museum in Ålesund showcases the history of fishing, fish processing and displays exhibits dedicated to fishing vessels. While some parts of the museum could benefit from renovation, it provides an authentic glimpse into the past. The museum boasts quality exhibits on local fisheries with interactive attractions like climbing rigging in a wooden boat and rowing boats in the harbor. The friendly staff adds to the excellent experience at this top-rated museum.
Excellent vist, well presented exhibition covering culture and Hertitage of fishing industry through the years to modern day

Nice Museum which describes pretty well how the fishing technology and culture developed over the centuries. A lot of equipment and machines are on display. The location is the old fishing factory - the smell and the apearance are like back in the days...
Also some old ships are on display. Nice.

Very interesting and well put together museum that you go in for free when you buy a combo ticket for the KUBE and Art Nouveau museums in the center. The employee at the front desk was very, very nice and helpful. When you go there, make sure to ask about the Rolls Royce ship simulator on the third floor! Sadly it didn't work when I was here but maybe you'll get luckier.

Small museum in a restored building telling stories of fishing cod and preserving cod in the area. Nothing big, just some simple exhibits to support the stories.
Credible Critic — Google review
Maybe the best museum I've been to? There's the museum itself, which has lots of quality exhibits on the local fisheries, and there were also lots of fun attractions outside. We climbed the rigging in a big wooden boat, and took out some rowing boats into the harbour. An excellent museum, with really friendly staff too. Thanks!

This museum gives you a true, good, honnest window to the past. Loved the smell inside. Unfortunately some areas could be improved or renovated. The (2nd or 3rd ??) floor with the tvs and videos look like an old exhibition from the 80's that has not evolved since then.. the wooden boxes painted in blue and the set up.. looks very amateur unfortnl

Fisheries Museum Alesund
The Fisheries Museum portrays the historical development of fisheries and the on-land processing work – from the first bite in the water right outside of the house to the high-tech fishing vessels of today.
By the beautiful harbour in Ålesund you can find the landmark Holmbua. The warehouse from 1861 escaped the great Town Fire of 1904, and today it holds Aalesunds Museums´ fisheries exhibitions. Take a stroll through the exciting displays and learn more about the town's production of dried cod and other types of fish products. Stop by the laboratory where cod liver oil is produced, the smell alone will set you in the right mood! You will also have the unique possibility to learn more about old trades that are practically extinct today, such as barrel making. In 2010, a new and large exhibition on sea fishing opened - worth a visit!

Really interesting museum. I don't give it 5 stars because it seems bigger on the Google photos. Despite this fact, it's great to come inside. You'll get an overview about the traditional Ålensud lifestyle. It was lovely.
Not only a gallery but also a museum. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This is high quality antiques and art. 10/10 🙌🙌🙌

Went to Alesund to see my mom, the week's gloomy weather somewhat restricted outdoor activities. However, a surprise trip to Artifex made our day and in turn the whole trip great since Nils' conversation with us turned out to be the finest art and history education I've likely ever had. Make sure to visit Galleri Artifex if you're ever in Alesund!

Had an inspiring experience in this shop. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about each item in his collection. Despite our limited knowledge in Norwegian jewelry and artifacts, we felt this shop and owner had a particular draw that sparks your imagination for the regal history of Norway.

Giske Church: A Testament to Norwegian History and Architectural Brilliance.
Nestled in the heart of Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Giske Church stands as a testament to both Norwegian history and architectural brilliance. Constructed in the 12th century, this marble parish church is not only one of the oldest continuously used churches in Norway but also the country's only marble church.
The origin of the church's white marble is shrouded in mystery, but its journey to the island by boat and the subsequent construction showcases the determination and prowess of its builders. The church's architectural style, predominantly Norman, resonates with the architectural movements of the period.
Giske Church was originally erected as a Benedictine monastery and underwent significant renovations over the years, including the construction of its main tower and new roof in the early 12th century.
Its role as an epicenter of Catholic liturgy and education in the 1500s and 1600s underscores its historical significance. Following the Reformation in 1537, the church was repurposed for Protestant worship, with extensive renovations carried out in the 1750s and the 1860s.
Inside, visitors can marvel at exquisite carvings depicting scenes from the Gospels of Jesus' life, such as the Last Supper and the Resurrection. The church also houses its original 12th-century cloister and a library where medieval books are preserved.
