The beach Playa del Castillo is a popular spot on Fuerteventura in the warmer months, with sunbathing, swimming and picnicking attracting crowds. It's also known as Caleta de Fuste and Piedra Playa, due to its protected bay location. There's plenty of activity in the water from snorkelling to dipping with local sea lions.
Lovely beach, suitable for everyone. There is disabled access with wooden walk ways running on to the beach (though not across it)
Beautiful Turquoise water, cool to start but warm once your body adjusts to it.
The top of the beach near the board walk has toilets and fresh water showers. There are nice affordable bars at the right of the beach near the Eurotar Salinas hotel. These cafes and restaurants do take out ice creams too.
the car parks seem to be at the right end of the beach too or you can park anywhere on any road in the sprawling complex all around this end of Caleta de Fuste
This is a man made beach with quite gritty "Sand" laid deeply to cover the Natural volcanic ledge that was here, It is a gradual shelf and suitable for all swimming abilities. You still need to be mindful of the currents and wind direction here as the entrance to the beach goes directly out to sea
There are man life guard towers here and a shark net to protect the beach from both Sharks and rays. There are smaller fish and these quite happily swim round you, you need to be aware of this as some people seemed quite distressed by that. These fish do not bite but might just swim against you.
You can hire sun loungers and sun shades/Parasols here on the beach - you just sit on a lounger and the attendants will come to you. We were there 2nd week in September 2022 and the price was still 10 Euros for all day rental of x 2 loungers and Parasol 0r 7 Euros for one lounger and Parasol. Pretty good value as you do need the shade especially if you have a young family or you burn easily.
Very nice beach for evening walks along the Board walk.
Possible Downsides:-
It can get very busy in high season, but never "Rammed"
Very close to airport so planes fly over head to land - but its not that often .
Can be choppy with small waves on very windy days.

We had a week here with the family and had a great time. The weather was go. The beach looks nice, but there are some sharp pieces of shell, which got in to my sandals and were uncomfortable.
Steve Butcher — Google review
A great beach with a snack bar, toilets (free), and 2 sunchairs and shade for €10.50. Beach has a bit of rocks and seaweed, but that doesn't bother the kids. Go further down away from the toilets for less sand and seaweed. Quite windy.
Lisa “Jootjoot” C — Google review
To start with, location is very close to the airport if that makes any difference, beach is manmade, not natural. It's wide, there's plenty of room for everyone, ocean is calm so it's ideal for families with young children, down side of it I would say is that there are only 2 beach bars operating from 11 till 6 only so if you would like to eat some restaurant food you have walk a bit to the main area off the beach. There's another thing to mention here that can be annoying or pleasant, the airplanes are flying right above the beach and they are loud. Hope I covered it all.

Stunning beach. Crystal clear water and a fantastic place to visit for both adults and families
Andrea Turnbull — Google review
The beach has excellent facilities, including restaurants and cafes, clean bathrooms near the beach, showers, and parasols (€7 for one person or 10 for two people). The beach is ok, it certainly isn't the best on the island, but the water is calm and it is clean. It's near the airport - about a 10 minute drive. There are dromedaries which were nice to see, with the option to pay for a ride.
Caterina Bassano — Google review
Very wide beach , great for toddlers as they don't get stuck in the sand and there are not many waves
Rostislaff Bayeff — Google review
Fantastic beach. Shallow water for quite the distance out. Very little waves means you can chill in the water with your kids with no worries.
Nice snack bar on the beach. Camel rides and toilets as well. You can also rent sun beds for a resonable price. 10 euros for two for the whole day.
Leon Milliken — Google review
Such a beautiful place!! In the early morning the beach is quite empty and it’s lovely to take some pictures!
If you want to use the sun beds and the umbrella there is a €10.50 charge for a day. There are shower, toilet and live guards available.
Also, few restaurants that have take away coffee and drinks with an average of €3 per drink.
Definitely a place to visit!
Silvia Casian — Google review
A truly wonderful beach that's very wide.
Toilets are on the beach.
A bar on the beach too.
Many restaurants and cafes nearby.
The sand is flat as it's a man made beach.
This makes it easy to walk on, but not as great for sand castles!!
The water is shallow though, so great for swimming in !
Very tranquil with many sunbeds under shaded umbrellas.
To note, it's 10 mins drive in the car from the airport.
Jamie Ward — Google review
A very large and lovely, man-made beach, with affordable sun loungers. A pair of loungers with canapoy was €10.50 per day. Attended by several life guards, the shore at low tide is very stoney so wear your beach shoes while in the water, (well it is a volcanic island after all). There are good walkways with clean, attended toilets (tips are optional but don't be shy...) and loads of bins etc. The chierichetto is good for a coffee or drink but a bit far from the water front, but the wooded walkways make this tolerable. This is a windy beach so be prepared.
A Live — Google review
Nice and scenic at both day and night, even if it is highly likely to be man-made. The ocean is still real and you get some spectacular views of the coast regardless. Didn't use the sunbeds during the day so uncertain as to the cost, we mainly just had the odd walk around as we were staying very close-by.
Dal — Google review
Nice wide beach although lots of shells under foot.
Water is crystal clear and beautiful to swim.
Sadly a lack of beach bars.
Melanie Hughes — Google review
Very nice beach strap with sun beds and umbrellas for rent.
Moran “MBy” Ben Yosef — Google review
A nice beach that I think is man made as it is virtually all South facing. It’s quite shallow especially when the sea goes out. Very little in the way of Waves as the bay is a bit sheltered. The Sun beds are just over €5 per person per day. Toilets and areas to recycle. There is a bit of an area for disabled access/pushchair. Near the centre.
La Guirra Beach is a pleasant seaside destination that attracts many visitors. Although there was an unexpected influx of jellyfish today, it is usually a beautiful and well-maintained beach. Located on the way to Atlantico Centre, it offers sun beds and parasols for rent, along with lifeguards for safety. The presence of flags informs swimmers about the current conditions in the water.
Another beautiful beach area on the walk to Atlantico Centre, sun beds to hire under parasols to sunbath on. Lifeguards on duty. Flags on display to alert you to the swimming conditions. More popular than Playa del Castillo, its got nicer sand its not man-made, :)

Great set of 4 bays with real sand. Great for snorkeling round the rocks. Doesn't get too busy (September) Lovely restaurant accessible via a walkway out to sea

Nice beach that we always make sure we visit .
Jellyfish took over today though as you can see in the photo i posted .We have been coming here many years and this is the first time we have encountered jellys but conditions in wind and underwater volcanic activity some way off made it right for them to swarm ..Apparently!

Wow a beautiful beach beautiful sands and water so clear. Be careful on windy days though. Close to hotels and local shopping centre and cafe too
ANT LAWTON — Google review
Lovely clean beach. A little windy generally but breeze is nice and cooling. Plenty of sunbeds for hire and beach umbrellas. Plenty of restaurants and bars a short walk away.
Paris Hunt — Google review
The sands are so hot and the water so cool. I don't believe in heaven, but if I am wrong I hope it's a beach like this.
For the day you can rent out sun loungers and fixed parasols, each 4 euros and highly worth it. But there is plenty of space to stretch out and so much time to enjoy.
There seems to be other beach equipment on offer, but not sure, as when I asked about them he waved me off. The listing also mentioned hammocks and balinese beds, but not sure. (balinese beds are those 4 poster beach bed things. Now that would be heaven)
Perhaps the only thing missing is a nice cocktail. But I think there is a rule against alcohol on the beach.
Also the toliets can be a problem. They can be sparse depending on where you pitch. We bought a parasol at one end, not realising that access to toilets can be limited.
The closest being a hotel, but we were not their guests. All have keycard access, which means only their guests can use the toliet. So it's important to plan where you intent to beach by how close you are to a toliet you can use. There is nothing more desperate that a 3km walk in the beating sun, and busting.
I was lucky, some guy was returning to his room, and I snuck in behind as he used his card, and use the hotels toilet. Well at least I didn't pee in the sea.!!
During the mid-afternoon 1-3 the sand really heats up, even in winter, so sandals or something is a must. A hat, water and sun cream are also a good idea.
Finally you can see the rock crabs, squirrels (yes, Barbary ground squirrel, Atlantoxerus getulus) and little fishes as you walk on the beach.
So peaceful, tranquil and such a lovely place to spend the day. Would recommend... And would go back

Lovely sheltered safe beach, near shops , bars, restaurants and supermarkets
Alan Tilbee — Google review
Great beach, soft sand, gentle slope into the sea, which is sheltered from the currents in the sea. Also really close to the Atlantico shopping centre which has a range of wee cafes and clean toilets, handy for lunch. Only slight negative which applies to all of the beaches is that you pay for the sun loungers and parasols 12euros for 2 beds and a wicker parasol
The Atlanticó shopping centre is a relaxed destination that boasts a variety of stores, including specialty shops and a supermarket offering affordable prices. Visitors can also enjoy entertainment options such as a movie theatre, bowling alley, and arcade. The selection of shops is impressive with fashionable clothing available for purchase. Additionally, the lower level features an excellent curry place perfect for lunchtime dining with pleasant outdoor seating arrangements. Overall, the Atlanticó shopping centre is well worth visiting for its welcoming staff and diverse offerings.
I love this shopping centre so much great stores here.
I was so very impressed with the prices at the supermarket it was unbelievably cheap and awesome. The staff were extremely lovely and friendly.

A good selection of shops. It would be nice to see more little stalls of handmade products. But still plenty to look at. Also a cinema and arcade, and plenty of cafes. It's only a short walk to the beach which is also nice
Gareth Morris — Google review
A very clean and new looking shopping mall, 10min walk along the sea front from our hotel. The Spar was our favourite, some really good prices and a nice little cafe inside. A few local cafes at the back of the shopping mall with some very tasty food. Around the back of the shopping centre is an old castle like building with a little pool teaming with fish, take some bread and you will love feeding them and the wood pidgeons. Not every day you pass two camels on your way to the shops.
Steven Tallents — Google review
Probably the only shopping mall on Fuerteventura. It comprises of two floors. Main floor comprises of about about a dozen stores including EuroSpar which sells everything a home needs. There is also a small cafeteria which gives a decent cuppa with assortment of patisseries at a very good price.
The main level also has a hairdresser shop if you need a snip. Mobile phone shop, sports and designer shops can also be found here. If you’re looking for a store selling console games or electronics you won’t find it here.
Lower level caters for toilets cafes, indian restaurant and Yelmo cinema with a bowling alley and small arcade/play center for children.
The cinema was disappointing during my stay as they seem to only show movies in Spanish language. Apparently they do show movies with original English language not when we were here sadly.
Lower level leads to the car park and out towards the beach and water feature which needs a good clean.

The Salt Museum Salinas del Carmen, located south of Caleta de Fuste, is a museum within an old saltworks that showcases the history and production of sea salt. Visitors can enjoy two tours, one inside the museum and another outside in the actual sea salt mines. Inside, they can explore the extensive history of salt, its various uses in medicine, cooking, and chemistry throughout different periods and regions. They can also learn about the cultural significance attached to salt by different societies.
Hidden gem. You've got to visit this place. From the main beach in Caleta, its either a 10 minute bus ride ( no 103 ) from the main bus station, a 15 minute bike ride , or a 40 minute walk. We took the bus there & walked back. Paid €6 each to visit the museum & brought some sea salt for ourselves + friends who love cooking.
There's a few chipmunks 🐿 living down there too.

Wonderful little museum, great photo opportunities and some excellent and knowledgeable guides. Just remember to take a bag of peanuts with you to feed the chipmunks - there's loads of them. Well worth a visit and only €6 entry for an adult (2022).

Great place to spend a couple of hours. Museum is very informative. The shop is good for buying a souvenir and had a decent Cappuccino and expresso in the little cafe. Accessible toilets and my husband who uses self propel wheelchair did manage to see the majority of the outside displays.

Interesting museum, not the friendliest of staff in the info centre! but 12€ for the two of us to look around the museum was acceptable. Although we did see people just looking around the trenches and not bothering with the indoor museum. We can’t recommend the cafe though, just couldn’t get served, maybe because of Sunday lunch being served in the restaurant.
Graham Jones — Google review
Good place to go and see. Very cheap. Lovely gift shop. Friendly staff. Only downside wish there was more information on the process behind making salt and having staff members outside around the ponds to answer questions. Would have made the trip much more informative

Ok so think of the 12 euro (for two) entry as a tourist contribution to the local economy. We walked along the coast from caleta de fuste and it was a nice little bonus to go in here and see some local history! Add wild chipmunks and a huge whale skeleton and what is not to like! There is a nice shop and restaurant here but we left empty handed and hungry lol . Give it a visit!

This is an amazing place with super nice and lovely staff. It has an indoor museum part which is interactive and provide interesting information about this profession and place. Do not miss the 5 minutes video, it is created in a unique way. There is a special way of presentation. I am sure it will grab your attention. The outside part is must visit too , how the water go through the different stages than seeing the the result the salt itself in the end.

Worth seeing. It's amazing how ingenious the traditional salt production methods were. The museum gives a good overview of the process both in the various exhibits inside as well as the actual production area outside.
Lukasz Glowacz — Google review
The history of the place is interesting. There is a small exhibition inside and you can walk around the actual production facility. The gift shop is a bit generic.
On the negative side - the outside area could have done with a bit more care. I could see discarded drink cartons and general rubbish in the actual salt pools ... So I did not buy salt from the shop ....

It is a small but very nice museum about salt and ist's traditional handcrafted gaining from the sea. Besides that it's including a beautiful female Narwale-skeletton (though sad) - and a very nice museum shop with very kind staff. You can buy beautiful handcrafted Art, Clothes, Jewellery and of course their own product - fine delicious sea salt.

The Museo del Queso Majorero is a top-notch museum on the island, offering a variety of engaging displays. Visitors can explore hands-on cheesemaking exhibits, admire a restored windmill, and wander through a cactus garden. The museum also showcases local crafts and provides interactive touch-button exhibits filled with information about the island's flora and fauna. For those interested in cheese production, there are educational resources available on Majorero cheese production and recommendations for tasting the final product.
Fantastic value for money at this must see museum for anyone who loves cheese. There are some great exhibits, a beautiful cactus garden, tranquil palm garden, and even a windmill to explore. Staff were super friendly and kindly added us on to the cheese tasting option at the last minute which is really worth doing.

Quite interesting little place in the middle of the island but not super spectacular. If you’re driving across the island and are near it’s worth a quick visit. It’s only 4 euro and you get some interesting information about the island. The cactus garden and wind mill are nice to see.
Niek Gramser — Google review
It might seem like an odd choice of museum but we’ve been twice now because its kinda fun! Nothing special as such, just a nice place to visit, look around and enjoy some local cheese in the cafe! Windmill, historical rooms and a cactus garden too.
Jay Lamb — Google review
Comprehensive information on cheese-making, but also the 30 breeds of goat, and farming of grains. Then yet more on the geological and biological aspects of the island.
Sadly the cafe seems to still be closed (was closed last time we came in 2019 too), however there is a shop that sells cheese, ice-creams and water.
Finally, the cactus garden is worth a wander.

What a gem. Lots of interesting facts about the famous cheese from the Canary islands. Pretty well preserved windmill. I have never seen so many cacti altogether!

A little charming museum about the cheese production of Fuerteventura, its past inhabitants, fauna and flora. It’s informative and surprisingly modern. The museum shop contains locally-made stuff like handicraft and cheeses. The building complex looks great and combines old-timey aesthetics with a modern feel for geometry.
We could sample goat cheeses and learn about the importance of cheese for the islanders among the first settlers, the early modern era, and today.
As for the other attractions, you can enter an old windmill, a cactus garden, and a palm garden. It was a good mix of attractions all included in one ticket.

Highly recommended to visit it. It is a super museum with loads of interesting information about the island, goat's, cheese making etc. It is interactive full of short but good videos. My favourite was about the 3 theory how Canary Islands was created. There is beautiful cactus garden and palm tree garden too.And most importantly the staff is very helpful and nice speaking several languages.

This is a gem of a museum. Multi-lingual friendly staff , a superb garden of palms and cacti, a beautiful old mill which could probably start production again as soon as the sails are raised, all centered around a large old finca with several informative rooms showings displays, videos, photos etc. of the islands history, cheese production (yes - remember, it's a cheese museum), all you ever wanted to know about goat breeds (I want a goat in my garden please)...we spent far too much time in the garden and first exhibition rooms, had to rush in the end, missed out on the museum shop, sorry! also the cafe and a couple of the rooms. Obviously not everyone will be reading all the multi-lingual information on display, but if you want to get a sense of what made Fuerteventura, and how its past resonates into the present do visit this well kept place and take your time.

We visited this museum as part of an excursion organized through Norwegian Cruise Line and had a great time during our short stay there. The visit started with a tasting of a locally made honey rum and goat cheeses made my the owners of the museum which were both very delicious. After that, we then got to walk around the museum and go through all the exhibits which were divided into three sections, the first was about the formation of the Canary Islands, the second was about the cheese making process they go through and the the different types of cheeses they make, and the third about the goats of the island. All was very informative and there was even a few interactive exhibits that tested the knowledge we gained from the exhibits. The entire visit was very enjoyable and the owners and staff and super welcoming and friendly.

The dining experience was enjoyable for the Wife, who had a great time swimming alongside sea lions. However, she also spent 90 euros on a dolphin-watching excursion but regretted it as there were no sightings except for other people. It was considered a waste of money, leading her to plan a different activity next time, like going on a day trip to an island instead.
Historical three hundred years old tower building by the first Spanish conquistadors landed in Fuerteventura Canary Islands. Located by the coast. Unfortunately the tower was closed during my visit to Fuerteventura. Highly recommended to visit because it is only one of the few historical places in Fuerteventura.

This historic tower was within the holiday resort I was staying in. I was fascinated to learn it's around 300 years old, and it was built to defend against pirates. I wonder what the people from back then would make of its surroundings now!

Good eating as the Wife loved swimming with sea lions but also paid 90 euros to see the dolphins on an excursion. Didn't see anything except people 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Waste of money. Next time I'll do a day trip to an island instead.

A lovely piece of history.
You can walk up the stairs onto the top of it.
There are large funnels at the top, you can look right into them, being as they're hollow .
Its set right next to the ocean.

Lovely day out at the Atlantico shopping mall, there wasn't very many shops in there but the surrounding areas were lovely, especially the old fort, you can see how much history is there.
