Baleal Island, located about 5km northeast of Peniche, is a picturesque peninsular island that serves as a popular hot spot for swimming and water sports. It is particularly renowned for its excellent surfing opportunities. Accessible via a narrow causeway from the mainland village of Casais do Baleal, this island-village features a stunning sandy beach with numerous surf schools and bar-restaurants dotting its shores.

Beautiful place and a great beach for surfing. Sometimes the waves are to high and scary, but usually it is good for my intermediate-beginner-learner level ;)
The beach is smaller than the other Baleal beach (sul), but usually has better conditions for learning to surf. But it is also cool to sit there, there are some rocks that can protect you from the wind.
One thing though, there are like two big rocks 🪨 in the water, that you can’t see from the beach. Be carful when you surf there not to hit one of them when falling off board. Other than that, it’s a great spot.
Highly recommend, for surfing, lying on the beach or maybe even doing some tough on the sand :)

Cabo Carvoeiro is a stunning Atlantic promontory featuring awe-inspiring cliffs and distinctive rock formations that attract a diverse array of seabirds. This remarkable landscape boasts spectacular island views and is regarded as one of the most extraordinary destinations globally, making it a must-visit location for every traveler seeking natural beauty. The region's exquisite scenery is truly remarkable, evoking feelings of wonder and enchantment within all who behold its breathtaking vistas.
A lovely place to watch the sun go down the horizon.
It is common for people to gather and drop by to watch the sunset. If the sky is clear, one is able to see Berlengas and Farilhões.
Sometimes, at night, if the sky helps, one is able to see various fishing boats together in the South of Berlengas. It kind of looks like they are having a party (even though that's not the case).

The views are spectacular! The waves crashing on the rocks are just phenomenal. You can hop in a car an drive around the area until you get to the lighthouse and walk some more by the rocks but be careful as you may fall this is not a closed off area. There's some unofficial parking, and there's always lots of people around taking photos of the magnificent sightings. As you drive around you will see some crosses on the way from people that have died, so please be careful if walking, biking or driving and not paying attention to the road, there's lots of curves and it's a very distracting view of the ocean. There's some chapels along the way, since it's Portugal there's always a chapel or a church nearby... And as always just beautifully crafted and meaningful to the area. This is a great place to visit, to have a nice picnic, have some inspiration, meditate (if that's your thing) and take lots of pictures of nature. The shot I took was as close as I felt comfortable to go walking on the rocks, you may get a lot closer just be careful, have good shoes on and watch your step.

The Fort of Peniche, a fortress built during the Renaissance era, has a rich history as both a seaside fort and a 20th-century prison. Today, it serves as the home of Peniche's Municipal Museum. The fort is situated on cliffs and rocks overlooking the port of Peniche and is known for its picturesque scenery. Visitors can explore the museum in the afternoon after planning accordingly. Additionally, camping is popular on the nearby island while enjoying excellent fresh fish from local restaurants.

The place is very original, you have a rough and particular service, but if you don't take it seriously, it's fine. The food is regular, nothing amazing, but not bad at all. Good menus, check them.

One of my favourite stops at this amazing architectural masterpiece which served as an imposing defense to the honour of Portugal, which was sadly tainted when, under the dictatorship of Salazar, the fort was turned into a state prison, housing around 2000 political prisoners over the ages, who suffered the most degrading injustices in this place, reminiscent of the soviet era at its worst.
Exciting escape stories, prisoners sketches & letters, prison records and cells were profoundly moving for me.
The museum is a must for a tiny entrance fee, where the history of Peniche, its trade, the fort and the battles fought, as well as its more recent history as a prison. Absolutely fascinating.
Our deepest thanks to Dona Ana Luisa, an employee for over 2 decades who was kind enough to open the chapel and told us some great stories.
Get there soon, the fort is due to be closed to the public for a prolonged period (years) for much needed restoration works.

This viewpoint with a cross in Remédios (Peniche) is one of my favourite places to watch the sunset. Apart from offering stunning views, it also leads us to more profound questions about life. By looking at the sea, which sometimes is calm and other times rough, we can reflect on the ebbs and flows of life and what it means to us.

They hold a mass here almost daily. Even though it is generally at 1900/7pm (except Friday and Sunday), schedules may vary, so it is advisable to check their Facebook page.

(Translated by Google) A special well-preserved church with a coffered ceiling full of works by old masters. While the building looks rather reserved from the outside, the inside is something special that is rarely seen in this form. But definitely worth a visit and for reflection anyway.

Whole peninsula is great, especially north/east part where the Lighthouse is.
Cold water beach that is great for various water sports.
It is a renown surfing wedge, loved by bodyboarders. When the sea is stormy, and tides are high, even though the right is the one that works better, already caught nice lefts here. Generally when the sun sets bellow the red lighthouse the waves tend to almost disappear.
Near the parking spot by the shipyard there is a place with some showers, where one can wash the equipment.
Sometimes there are open-water swimming events. A few years ago went there in shorts and even though it was a good training, I was really cold during the first journey.

Wonderful place ruined by nasty localism in the water and theft. There is a lot of theft from vehicles and people have had bicycles stolen from their gardens. If you cannot share nature in your home country you have no place in the countries of others.
A shame as this is a world reknown touristic area, I'm sure if some of the low-life locals were employable they too would enjoy the benefits of this but they are "the left-behind." Perhaps some of the local touristic businesses especially Air BnBs need to engage with "the left-behind" rather than just prioritising short-term profit; otherwise people will wise up to the fact that coming here versus many other places is a waste of time.

(Translated by Google) Very nice and peculiar small beach with access tunnel to the sea. It is rocky so booties are recommended. It is usually busy with tourists who come down to take a look but I have never seen anyone bathing, it is more for photos. On days with waves the water eats up the entire sand area.

(Translated by Google) A very peculiar place: a tiny access beach in the fortress, with a different charm both for its access and for its surroundings and its dimensions.
It is an ideal place to spend a few minutes enjoying how interesting and magical the architecture of yesteryear could be, combining the functional aspect (defensive in this case) with the aesthetic at an architectural, urban and almost landscape level.
