Ennis Friary is a historic landmark located in the town of Ennis, built by Franciscan monks in the late 13th century. The ruins showcase Gothic architecture with an impressive limestone carving of St Francis and the MacMahon tomb dating back to 1470AD. The friary was once a significant center for learning in Europe housing up to 300 Friars and 600 students at its peak.
A charming monastery (perhaps one of the most ancient in Ireland), you can have a look at the restored part, then go to the most intact and authentic one.
The ticket is free of charge until December 2021!

Ennis is on the way to Limerick, stopped to see the friary. Small place. They built a roof over the nave so that they can keep the elements from eating away at the sculptures.
Place was a Franciscan friary, then a jail and courthouse. Later a heritage site. Apparently the monk's residence is now the pub next door. They found remains of the old floor during renovations
Worth a visit since we have the OPW heritage card. Spent about 45 mins. The staff will give a short explanation on the place as you enter. There's a picture treasure hunt for kids. If they found everything there's a small gift.

Very interesting Friary in centre of Ennis, it even has a roof.

Ennis Friary has been the town`s focal point since the thirteenth century. It has been a Franciscan household, under the patronage of the O'Brien Kings of Thomond, a courthouse, a jail and, more recently, a Church of Ireland parish church. You can visit the sacristy, an impressive structure with ribbed, barrel-vaulted ceiling, the administrative centre of the friary. Today it is a national monument under the care of the Office of Public Works.

Definitely worth a visit. A guide gives you a brief historical overview then you are free to wander around the places. It's very well maintained and there are lots of cool carved details in the walls and in the graveyard. The main area is covered, so this is a perfect rainy day activity.

Beautiful place. I spent a good bit of time there. It’s a little sad to see what has become of the building when it was devoted to God and to the poor. But that’s history. I was glad to see it and to remember that all things are temporary.

A beautiful and stunningly well preserved abbey. The guides are prepared and can tell you more about the history of the old church and the city of Ennis. Tickets cost 5€ for adults

I appreciate the friendly and knowledgeable staff taking their time to give us the history of the Friary. It is older than I could have imagined and has a lot of history! I appreciate that they are preserving the history of this place!

Great historial place and lovely staff. They make a short presentation about the history of the friary bur there are lots of pannels with explanations. It is a must

Whilst Ennis itself isn't a particularly inspiring Irish town, the Friary, and history behind it was very interesting, and OPW have done a great job in maintaining the buildings. The guide was very informative and help provide context to the infrastructure. We'll worth a visit!
Great local collection from very early ( pre historic ) and though the centuries. Well worth a visit if your interested in history. Centre of Ennis car park very close

This was a quaint museum that gives you a great history of the county. I was especially taken with the oral history captured from several residents and available to hear in the museum. We all found it well worth the time.

Very good Museum and gives you a basic history of Clare.A good range or artefacts found all over Co Clare over the years. It is a pity all those artefacts are on loan from the National Museum. The admission is free and a great way to spend a wet day or any day.Expec to spend at least one hour. The area covers two floors.
Well worth a visit.

Clare Abbey is a significant historic attraction situated in the middle of a field. It has been improved over time with better roads and signage, making it easier to access. Visitors can enjoy a new walking path along the river for exercise and leisure activities. The abbey boasts impressive tombs inside, adding an element of intrigue and interest to the site. Lucky visitors may even get to interact with grazing cows nearby.
Historic , mystical place . And walking around the courtyard I could imagine the friary monks praying and walking along the courtyard . Beautiful views as you look out the arch windows. You can see the beautiful shades and shadows shining through as you walk around the Abbey. It makes you feel like you're at peace with yourself

You can't visit it but you see it from the Fergus River Path. But there is no shelter from Sun or Rain. And you can't see the river from the Path.
Susanne Hummel — Google review
This is far better marked and easier to get to than in years past. Improvements have been made to the roads and signage. There is a new walking jogging path down below along the river.
This is a good size abbey and well worth a visit. If you are lucky the cows grazing in the field may approach and you might just be able to give one a scratch on the head as you pass into the abbey.

Fantastic venue. Clean tidy. Staff are very courteous, helpful and pleasant. Have been to numerous shows there and love going back. Shows start on time and are always well worth their price. My latest trip was to Pantaloons, Christmas panto. It was just brilliant. Great credit due to all.

Lovely intimate venue, the auditorium is well lit and acoustics were great, the ushers so friendly. The lobby is spacious and has decent amenities at fair prices for venues of the sort. Not a great deal of parking but multi story available in the nearby dunnes stores.

I was in the nutcracker show last might. It was disappointing the way the staff greeted me at the door, no one was greeting nor smiling, very dry unwelcoming staff.
Also, There was a 15 min break which was too short. The worst thing was the staff who was making coffee. Too slow and the young lady making coffee seems to be not caring at all. I went to Limerick concert hall and the staff were amazing, they were so fast to serve everyone during the break.
Honestly, Glor lakes professional staff. It sounds hard but in a big Christmas event that happens once a year, they should have enough fast working staff and also a warm welcome with a smile. It's a Christmas event and the local audience should be treated way better than this. A smile and warm greeting can go a long way.

Good venue. The music was wonderful. Susan O'Neill and Mick Flannery. I docked points because the place was very full. No spacing between groups, very stuffy. Made it very difficult to breathe comfortably with a mask on. I felt a bit nervous of the close proximity of the groups in the audience.

We attended Reeling in the Years. Ronan and his cast gave a most enjoyable performance. The whole experience was exhilarating. We came home feeling 40 years younger.

We went for a screening of Return to Dust/ 隐入尘烟 / Yǐn rù chényān. We arrived a few minutes late to nobody at reception, no guidance on where the screen was and no support. We found a lady, asked her for assistance, she went to get help, another lady appeared from what we later discovered was the screen room, asked us for our tickets and to follow her though. We did so in the dark with only the light of her phone, and were told to sit at the back, I scanned for empty seats and took a seat in the second last row. My dad tripped on the steps because of low light and no hand rail, and I noticed he got very uncomfortable in the seats. I found the seats ok. The service needs to be improved to create a better experience.

Very nice place. It's not very big but stylish.
There's a scene for different concerts and plays.
There is a cafe in it.

In glor for a children's show today, sweets on sale in the lobby, marked €1.25 being sold for €4.00 , when I asked the lady about this she said it has nothing to do with her. When I asked front of house I was told the lady over the sweets was off. Some profit margins for glor. Absolutely disgraceful

Also have tickets for the Panto that's coming up soon
There is a big private, no entry sign upon arrival. Speaking to a local she explained that there is a public right of way of the Abbey. Do not deviate from the path and respect the local farmers land. If the cows are out then do not enter. There is a nice little waterfall as you walk to the Abbey and a well past the Abbey be respectful!

There are signs because there are entrances to fields for most of the road. If you want an idyllic journey to medieval, no fence is high enough. Just respect the nature.

Visited on a fine sunny Sunday morning. Was apprehensive because of the private land signs but there were locals dog walking so we went in. Abbey is about 1/2 km from the gate. Path is even underfoot.

Situated in the picturesque town of Ennis, the Daniel O'Connell Monument is a noteworthy historical structure that dates back to approximately 1867. The Roman Doric column features an adorned figure with a raised hand on a square base. This impressive monument serves as a popular meeting place and is located at the center of Ennis city. Boasting rich Irish history and striking architecture, Ennis is an ideal destination for anyone interested in exploring these areas further.
Worth a visit if you have an interest in Ireland's history or architecture.

The Muhammed Ali Monument is a small plaque situated in a peaceful neighborhood of Ennis town, which commemorates the famous boxer's Irish roots and his connection to this part of Ireland. The monument serves as a tribute to Ali's ancestral home and does not display his face due to his international celebrity status. Although some may argue that the monument does not do justice to such an iconic figure, it remains an interesting little gem for visitors and locals alike to admire.
I’m leaving this review because like ali, this is the greatest monument of all time!

A little plaque next to a roundabout in a quiet neighborhood of Ennis town. While some people might say it doesn't do him justice, I believe this was in acknowledgement of his Irish roots in general and his attachment to this part of Ireland in particular. Understandable why his face wasn't shown because he was Muhammad Ali.
Super super helpful and talented staff at the local studies centre next to the library .
Thanks Michael for helping us trace our family history here in Co Clare. We've come all the way from Australia to do so

Unhappy with some members of the library staff, exceptionally rude and unkind to young students who were only looking for somewhere to read and do homework, where better to do this than a library? Demanded to see her ID and unnecessarily embarrassed her for not having a library card on her. I am a final year student in college trying to do work and found this behaviour towards students more disruptive than the students themselves.

The Ennis library is very nice it's quite small but it has everything you need like study areas, a PC area and a children/adult section. I came here to print out some few things it only cost me about 60 cents for colour print or 20 cents for black white print. The staff members are very friendly and always helpful
