The Hussite Museum in Tabor is a must-visit for those interested in the city's rich history tied to the Hussite religious movement. Founded by Protestant radicals known as Taborites in 1420, the museum offers insights into this significant period of Czech history. Visitors can explore the underground cellars around the main square, where a guided tour provides a glimpse into their historical use and significance.
A good museum showing the history the Hussites and Tabor.
There is a surprising amount in this museum and if you have an interest in the history of the Hussites, this is the place for you. There are quite detailed exhibits showing much of the history. Under the museum lies a series of tunnels that can be travelled through with a guide. However it is worth noting that the guide spoke only Czech and for someone who is not a Czech speaker, the tunnels might be less interesting, although still quite good.

I wanted to visit, but:
1. they ask full price despite main exhibition closed,
2. I wouldn't mind it that much, but at same time any Ukrainian can visit for free, are you serious?! You can keep this museum for Ukrainians, but don't expect I will spend here single crown until this stupidity is reversed.
Peter D — Google review
Worth a look, very good interesting Tabor city, Reformation & Hussite history. Most of the exhibits are in Czech. The tunnel tour is worth a look. Request an English tour and you might be lucky to get an English speaker. Otherwise they supply an information sheet in English. There are also lockable wine vats to place bags or backpacks in as well.

I thought it was wonderful. I was the only one on the tour, possibly because I came on a Wednesday morning in January when it was snowing. The underground tour is extensive, and I learned a lot about how people lived hundreds of years ago. On ground level, there is a museum dedicated to two Czech heroes: Jan Hus and Jan Ziska. You should learn about them.

Great exhibition, the underground tour is amazing. Special thanx to the best guide in the world, Bára! Wish you all the best, greetings from Hungary! 🙂

We went for the underground tour which takes around 25 mins and brings you under the main square while presenting you the history how these cellars were used. Tour was in Czech, but you can take a translation with you to read which covers what is discussed by the guide. The temparature underneath is cold, around 6 ° so take some extra clothes with you.

A very unique museum about an amazing culture. The tunnel tour was worth the price of admission. Such a unique experience.

The Hussite Museum is closed for renovations until November 2023 we were told at the gift store on the premises. The only thing they sold tickets to was the underground tunnels, on our visit sold out.

We only had time to visit underground and it was quite interesting guided tour.
The Museum of Chocolate and Marzipan in Tabor is a charming attraction featuring whimsical dioramas made entirely out of marzipan. Visitors can learn about the history and production of these beloved sweet treats, with much of the information provided in both Czech and English. The displays are particularly impressive, including detailed models of the town square and castle. While some may find the fairy tale cellar a bit odd, it could be enjoyable for children.
Great fun for our little ones from 3-10 years, they had so much fun admiring all the chocolate exhibits, then making their own creations using marzipan and sprinkles. The smell of cocoa, especially by the train, is amazing. There is a fairytale underground. One of them is very dark and could be quite scary for the very young ones. ….Still having fun at home with the marzipan multi color kits, making food for dollies and such.
FLnurseER1 — Google review
Visiting the chocolate museum was such a great experience! It has exhibits and activities for younger children and for adults. There's also a workshop where we could make our own chocolate and marzipan creations.
Penelope Kopala — Google review
An ok museum for younger kids. Rather small already quite worn out and unnecessarily pricey. There are better venues in Tábor, I would skip unless with kids on a rather rainy day.

+ amazing place
-homemade lemonade is plain water with a little syrup, no ice or fruit
Jan S (CzechBoySlim) — Google review
The place is advertised as chocolate museum mostly, but in fact you have here more marzipan figures than anything else and you'll learn very little about chocolate. You'll even not learn much about marzipan. And there are parts which are related to neither. This place could be best described as kids' amusement house with taste of marzipan and chocolate.
The coffee shop where you can buy hot chocolate to drink is special story: I have never seen so small and so expensive hot chocolate.
Jan Đonny Záruba — Google review
A neat little museum dedicated to chocolate and marzipan. There's plenty of information (much of it in English as well as Czech) about the history and production of our favourite sweet treat.
All the best displays are actually made of marzipan; there's some impressive models (including the town square and the castle) made in exquisite detail.
OK, so the fairy tale cellar is a bit odd (maybe one for the kids!), and it's a little on the expensive side, but if you're in Tábor it's worth a look.
Tip: Try the hot chocolate. It's pure melted chocolate (variety of types to choose from), served in espresso cups. You don't need more than that!
Robin Whitwham — Google review
Interesting exhibitions! So many marzipan and chocolate sculptures that were fun to see. The best part was tasting the homemade chocolate afterwards!
Ellie Farrier — Google review
Free samples, liquid drinkable chocolate and a nice introduction about the history of chocolate
Alain Chartrand — Google review
Lots of nice chocolate and marzipan works in the museum, which not only you can look at but also can actually smell :-) Still we considered the admission fee to be too high.
Pavel Radkovsky — Google review
This was a disappointment. The exhibits were old and dusty and nothing was happening for children. I took a hot chocolate and that was delicious
I also too a few sweets, and not much to choose from.for marzipan. The 1 sweets I got was old, the marsipan was stale and not fresh. Over priced museum,.i thought a chocloate tasting should have been included.
Tabor is otherwise a stunning little village.

Do yourself a favor and skip it.
You can come to the coffee shop and buy some chocolate 🍫, and that's it.
The museum is old fashioned and may scare little kids.
Tabor Zoo is an enjoyable venue that houses a variety of animals, including several protected species. Alongside the zoo, there is a restaurant that serves tasty food and an outdoor playground for children to enjoy. The zoo itself may be small in size, but it offers a pleasant experience nonetheless. Visitors also have the option to stay overnight on the premises. Overall, Tabor Zoo provides a great opportunity for animal lovers and families alike to relax and have fun in a beautiful setting with ample amenities.
Nice small zoo. Really loved the white wolfs and kangaroos. Pleasant staff, not a busy place. Worth a visit.
Ondrej Sery — Google review
This zoo is placed not far from the city, but I would recommend driving there. Parking is free and should fit your car too.
Entrance is not expensive, and you can also choose “patron” tier. As far as I understood, it should be done in advance.
As for the space itself, zoo is not the biggest I’ve seen, but there are some interesting animals to be seen. Moreover, some of them are accessible, so you can pet goats, for example.
Unfortunately some cages were empty, for example, we didn’t find guinea pigs in their house.
I recommend going clockwise, this way you will be able to see every animal in the zoo. Note that some areas have a lot of grass so in the summer time you will have to search thoroughly for the animals. Maybe it would be a wise idea to get binoculars or good lenses for your camera.
There are only two restaurants placed not far from each other, so it would be wise to get some water with you. Toilets are placed outside, but everything is clean.
Overall it is a nice place to visit, cozy and easy to cover in half of the day.

Zoo Tabor is one of the small ones in CZ but good to come and see it here. 1-2 hours would be enough to be spent there. 110Kc/4 Euro adult entrance is cheap. You can see lions, tiger, bears.... Also great colorful parrots and many more...only disadvantage is very rough parking lot but for free;) Also the walk trails in the Zoo are just gravel so not good for families with baby buggies;)

Very pleasant experience. The zoo is small but nice. The kids had a playground both outside and in the zoo restaurant. The food was more than decent both in taste and size.

It was very born... and The animals are hungry and thirsty. We saw a crow trying to take a little water from his container which had nothing of water ... to a camel with very little space to run and was desperate by the mosquitoes and threw himself to the desperate floor to remove it. A jet of water would have been ideal for it. They also had no place with shadow in their stable. In general there is no place to cool off a few meters away ... there is a lot to walk so I can buy water and cool off. There should be a position with water every few meters.

You can park your car right next to the ZOO. Just go a bit further. There is a small parking spot a bit far from the ZOO, but it has only four places. Don't get mistaken; you can go further.
The Zoo was nice. It is relatively new, so we must visit again in a few years. It's family-friendly, there is also a small petting zoo with goats.

Very nice zoo, we really enjoyed the VIP tour, thanks to zoo keeper Marek, it really was worth it.
The observation deck Hýlačka in South Czechia is a beautiful place to admire nature throughout the year. The tower, which offers breathtaking views, can be quite exhilarating on windy days. Admission costs 20 CK and can be paid at a ticket machine or through contactless payment. It's important to note that when paying for multiple people, each person must go through the gate individually.
The tower is mesmerizing. I loved the view. Also the parking lot is close nearby, like 5 mins by foot.

This is nice place to see nature around. South Czechia is beautiful during all the seasons. The tower is quite moving on the top upstairs when windy. The tower is for 20 CK and you pay by ticket machine. There is contactless payment possibility as well. We didn't try it. When you pay for more people you have to pay one by one and go through the gate straight away. There is a small kiosk where a Lady sits in case something happens, so she can help. But she was not much willing and kind to us. 😁 Enjoy the view xxx

One of the best watch towers, which was newly build at the place of the previous watch tower Hylacka. The previous watch tower burned down in the beginning of year 2012.
You can see from there nice city Tabor and countryside. On the top of the watch tower is nice bench for rest.

Hrad Kotnov, also known as Bechyňská brána, is a historical castle featuring a museum and observation tower. The museum displays the region's history from ancient times to the Hussite era, showcasing exhibits and descriptions about local lords and rulers. It offers educational installations for kids and themed games on screens. The nicely renovated tower provides various exhibitions as you climb up, offering a stunning view of the town and surrounding countryside.
Grand ornate gatehouse to the city with a 25m tall tower housing a small movie theater on the ground floor shoving a short but interesting movie about the history of the tower, free. Further up are several levels of wonderful displays of Tábor’s history across the ages, attractively arranged to interest kids and adults alike. There are hands on exhibits, and signage in Czech and English. Several steep wooden staircases lead up to the top of the tower with an amazing 360° view of the city and surrounding areas. Entry fee of about $4, reduced $3, credit cards accepted. Since the main Hussite Museum is closed for renovations, this is a wonderful alternative to learn about Tábor’s history.

Transferring from Tabor, Czech train station to Gemund No ( Austria) seemed like it would be complicated first by local train then by bus then by train again but employees and passengers were happy to direct us. Upon arrival at Ceske Velenice station, a bus was waiting to bring to Gemund No station. It took about ten minutes then upon arrival staff at Gemund No station told us exactly where to get the train going to Vienna ( Wien in Czech)

A tower and gatehouse containing a museum and viewpoint.
The museum shows the history of the region from Stone Age times until the Hussite era. There are some good exhibits and descriptions talking about the local lords and rulers prior to the Hussites. The tower can be climbed and offers good views of the town and surrounding countryside.

The server at Stárkův Dům was exceptionally friendly and helpful, which is uncommon in the Czech Republic. It was notable that they were willing to accommodate dietary restrictions by omitting prohibited ingredients, an unusual gesture. The restaurant itself offered delicious local dishes and impressed patrons with its inviting atmosphere and staff's warm demeanor. Overall, Stárkův Dům is a superb bistro that stands out for its outstanding cuisine and welcoming ambiance.
Review for restaurant only.
We had very tasty local cuisine and were surprised about the ambiance and friendliness of the staff.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, at the time of our arrival there was no service, which came after about 15 minutes, so the start was slower and everything took longer, but the wait was worth it. The hamburger with meat is excellent, everything is well seasoned, the homemade fries and the sauce for them are great!
Tesroviny with Salmon a little weaker, but only compared to the burger, otherwise good.
Honest goulash soup 👍

No tomatoes in sight, no caramelized onions either. Inside, in addition to meat, a pile of lettuce and pickled jalapenos, also ketchup and probably BBQ sauce.
The bulk is quite pleasant. The taste of the meat is also good.
I understand that it's a difficult time, but if the burger got more care it could be great.
As such, it is only below average.

A great location, but the down star is related to it. The house cannot be reached by car and it is even necessary to park in a paid parking lot. Just a hostel for travelers without cars, not for a family with two children. But thanks!

Restaurace Škochův dům is an excellent Czech eatery serving traditional dishes that truly embody the essence of Czech cuisine. The staff members are amiable, efficient, and provide prompt service. Moreover, the food's quality is exceptional, meeting all expectations associated with Czech gastronomy. Situated in a convenient location at the central square, this restaurant offers reasonably priced meals compared to other establishments in the area.
Just locates in the old town square, it has very good atmosphere and food

Very nice Czech restaurant for typical Czech food.
The service is friendly good and quick. The quality of the food is also very good. Exactly what you expect from the Czech kitchen.
This place is on the central square, but the prices are low for this locality.
The toilets could be cleaner.
When you are hungry and want good local food for an honest price I really recommend this place.

We were overcharged and I am sure it is because we are Americans. We were charged 112 Kc for 1 glass of wine that was on the menu for 28 KC. Then the waiter stated the menu had changed because the supplier couldn’t get that wine. Complete Bull!!! We were also charged for 2 beers and 4 more drinks that we didn’t order. Then he tried to charge 229 ck fir goulash that was on the menu for 185!!!! Stay away from this place!!

Just now we finished dinner the atmosphere was nice food was good but the service was poor. If the waiter cannot bother to clear the used ashtray no tip sorry you did not do the minimum. He did suggest the house beer - it was about 9:00 and we were told the kitchen was closing so we had to order even though my wife pointed out people came after, we seated and ordered and ate after us.
Best part I had to go inside to pay after calling out to the waiter - my wife stated he heard us but ignored us - the other table next to us was paying.
When inside the waiter explained paying a card I could leave a tip.
I’m an American I normally tip well - then I tried to politely explain he did not do the minimum of cleaning the ashtray we had to look and smell used butts durning our meal and he did not deserve a tip at all, did not check on us durning the meal and I had to come into pay.
Then his colleague in Czech got into the discussion - I was trying to explain why I did not tip and how to improve and I was told other people tipped, it was busy bla bla bla not the customer is right rather you should be ashamed for not rewarding poor service.I was called and idiot… remember I’m the guy paying for the meal.
Do these “kretens” my response to them not the waiter the colleague not realize there is a thing called a review on the experience.
They won the moment.
I will let you know what to expect.
Otherwise it was a lovely evening with my wife.

Despite the fact this place is in the historical city centre, we were disappointed with the food and the service. Food wasn't really tasty even the decoration wasn't worth it, so I didn't take any pics. We had a dessert but the cream wasn't homemade, even though the waiter assured us, that it is. Prices are higher than offered quality.

Food ranged from "decent" to "pretty good for a tourist trap." Service isn't as good. This place won't serve voda točená (tap water) despite it being on the menu. Look, don't put it on the menu if you don't want people ordering it. Asked three times and was finally delivered a bottle at three times the price. This place also charges US cards in Dollars at an unfavorable exchange rate instead of local Czech Koruna despite my friend's insistence to be charged in local currency. One final warning: started playing non-stop death metal Saturday night at 9pm.
