The Musée National de l'Automobile - Collection Schlumpf is the largest automobile collection in the world, located in Mulhouse. This grand museum showcases over 450 classic European cars, including 120 Bugattis, all tracing the history of automobiles back to their early days. The exhibition features 400 vintage, prestigious, and racing cars that will fascinate car enthusiasts as well as those with a general interest in automotive history.
Really impressive collection of cars from the beginning of the car history. If you are a fan of old cars especially Bugatti then this Museum is a must visit. They also have a small track where you can drive some classics for a fee.

Fantastic place! Watching it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. In a huge hall, hundreds of cars in beautiful condition. From the beginning of driving, you can find a lot of models here, looking at some of them, a frame from a movie comes to mind. We'll come back again, because it's a full-day program if someone wants to watch it more thoroughly.

Absolutely amazing visit! The displays are superb, and I can highly recommend spending a lot time here. Sadly I was under time pressure, so rushed through parts. But will be back.
I didn't get her name, but the young blonde lady at the ticket desk was incredibly friendly and helpful. A great start to the visit

The Musée National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse is a must-visit for car enthusiasts! The collection boasts an impressive array of vintage and modern vehicles, beautifully curated and well-maintained. From classic cars to iconic models, the museum offers a fascinating journey through automotive history. The interactive exhibits and informative displays provide insight into the evolution of automobiles. The museum's layout is well-designed, making it easy to navigate and enjoy at your own pace. Overall, a fantastic experience for anyone with an interest in cars! Highly recommended

A car collection like none other. It's a step back in time - and yet has one of the greatest new cars ever made on display. The classic/supercar driving at the end is a brilliant addition, too!

Despite not being a car enthusiast in any way, I absolutely loved this museum. There are vehicles spanning from carriages to formula 1, as well as lots of Bugattis. I would have liked to read more info about the vehicles, they only have a sort description. And more information about the founders of the collection would have been useful. I read up about them after my visit but their story could have been presented better in the museum. You can easily spend hours going round here.

This is an impressive collection of cars. There are a few fun hands-on activities as well plus a roll over simulator. There is a collection of children's pedal cars as well, which my children enjoyed. I am not a car fan by any means, but I enjoyed the museum.

Jaw dropping. The sheer number and range of vehicles is amazing. Quite a privilege to see the early models, and with good descriptions. But also the other categories, through the decades, as well as top end models and racing cars.

I don't visit museums that often, but this one is worthy of all the admiration. Great exposition, excellent descriptions for each car and really collected a huge number of exhibits
I will say right away - that allocate 2,5-3 hours to visit.
I was pleasantly surprised by the presence of a restaurant on the territory and a cool event after the end (the event is held on the territory of the museum every Sunday).

With one word - it is an extraordinary museum! If you are a car enthusiastic, or someone who is into mechanical designs and engines, you should definitely see this place.
The open gallery is very well prepared for a great exhibition according to years with brief, but attention taking descriptions and stories. The collection is one of a kind with very unique and rare cars.
And the idea of "Car lost in the Nature" is truly beautiful. We paid €18.00 for an adult ticket without waiting in the line on a Friday afternoon.

The Musée National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse is well worth a visit for every car enthusiast. So many beautiful examples of automobiles from the very beginning of car manufacturing until the late 1970ies. Maybe the biggest collection of Bugatti in the world. Amazing! We were lucky and there were not too many people there so it was perfect to take pictures. I would like to go again. Or go to an event where the old racecards are really driven. Extraordinary!

Very nice exhibition. They have hundreds of car maybe more but you can't sit or touch. For children there is a car race for their fun in the middle. For extra you can drive a each car for additional charge. Overall nice place to visit.

Huge museum but seems stuck in time pre 1980. Some important early cars in here especially Bugatti and others and interestingly includes a modern day Veyron. Vast majority of the collection is very old and either early cars or from 1930s, 40s and 50s when obviously the collection was being assembled. Some really interesting cars too from micro to pedal cars, clangers like the Aston Martin Lagonda, Ferrari 512 and some fun hands-on things for kids. Very cold inside the day we visited and could have been heated. Parking outside is 2euro an hour.

I’ve been to lots of automotive museums around Europe but this one has been my favourite up to now, if you like cars the history and development of you’ll have a good day here. I particularly liked the easy layout of the museum which means you won’t miss a thing

Absolutely stunning collection of mainly Pre War Classics with an outstanding number of Bugatti Cars, but also some other classics can be seen. The space is arranged very well with no unnecessary stuff , we enjoyed the walk through the building.
The only downside is the missing ability to get something to eat in the afternoon, a small bistro menu with fries, Cake, Crepe or Baguette would be a great addition.
Jochen Sch — Google review
The collection is downright fantastic. It's incredible to see that many old cars, all the way to the 1890s, all in perfect operating condition. Fun activities as well (packing a boot to the brim, manually starting an old car...).
Beware of the cold, however, if you visit in winter. The exhibition hall has no heating at all anymore (due to electricity prices). I visited on a freezing day and while it was above zero indoors it wasn't a lot higher!
The bar also isn't particularly remarkable and has a tendency to close early (4:30 is too late already).
All in all, pick a sunny day, go early enough, and you'll have a blast!

My visit to the Mulhouse Automobile Museum was an absolute delight! From the moment we stepped in, the friendly staff members Charlotte and Lauris made us feel welcome. The museum itself is a treasure trove, boasting hundreds of classic vehicles and racing cars. Each exhibit is a masterpiece, but the Bugattis stole the show, giving me goosebumps! Spending the morning with Olly, reminiscing about his childhood and cars, was a highlight. I highly recommend a visit, but don't forget to wear warm clothes, as it can get chilly in March. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, as the place is huge. Overall, a fantastic experience that I'll cherish forever!

Not much of a car enthusiast, but this museum is spectacular. You don’t have to be knowledgeable or even all that interested in cars to thoroughly enjoy yourself here. The way that the history and progression of automobiles are displayed is quite captivating and we ended up spending 2-3 hours here.

Really nice experience for people who loves cars
I forgot to make a mention for the guy at the bar counter inside the museum. I never saw a guy so crazy like him. You can talk to him and he still doing his job, don't answer to you, give you his shoulders and don't care what you ask to him. I asked for a plastic bottle of water, I showed him a translation in French and he stills no answers and doing his own!!! Very very very rude!! I think it will be good to change your staff
The Cité du Train is a contemporary museum showcasing the evolution of trains and railways throughout history. This educational facility boasts an extensive collection of rolling stock, along with immersive audiovisual exhibitions spanning over 6,000 square meters. Visitors are taken on a journey through time from the inception of the Saint-Gervais-Chamonix-Vallorcine line in 1845 to imperial trains and the arduous lives of French railway workers.
Beautiful and large train museum. Interesting exhibition about WW2 and the importance of rail transportation. Never new there was also a fourth class. The differences in the classes was huge. Loved the train cabin the French built for De Gaulle with the extra long bed. The sleeping cabins and restaurant cars were beautiful. Good restaurant at the museum.

It was cool!! You get a lot for your money! Free train rides for kids, total history of France trains, all in French though, and not an interactive play museum for kids. Still cool though for kids that love trains!

A cathedral of railway history. Wandering through this sprawling structure, I felt overcome by a spirit of deep reverence: for those towering leviathans of steel that helped create the modern world and transform the populace's conceptions of time, but also for the workers and engineers and even the politicians who helped make such a world possible. Even dormant, the old trains seem to possess an overwhelming and imposing force, feeling almost primordial in their grandeur and clean elegance of design while also signalling the birth of a different age, one of sophistication and glamour. They are harbingers of transformation, of an age that once seemed exhilarating and terrifying in its sheer dynamism, but one that we now look back upon nostalgically. Lingering in the darkness of what was once the old SNCF trainshed, they still seem almost alive, especially surrounded by a series of quite informative mini documentaries about railway travel throughout the last century and a half.

A great place to spend a few hours - wandering through the history of trains in France - from steam locomotives to the TGV and everything in between!
Lots of interesting movie clips throughout the visit and would be perfect for all ages.
The restaurant serves good food too - with lots of Specials on the menu each day.
Well worth a visit!

Amazing museum! Suitable for anyone, children or adult, fan of trains or just interested in pretty trains. The average visit time indicated on the web site is 2h30 but I would say it's at least 3 hours maybe even 4. If you get hungry, there's a restaurant inside - a bit expensive but decent for a museum.

What an amazing museum! Such a large collection of trains, locomotives and carriages. There is also info available in English, but all of the interactive stuff is in French. My two year old was a little afraid of the first room (dark, noises and big trains), but he enjoyed it a lot in the end. He still talks about it a week later.
Roy Hoenderboom — Google review
It's a lovely place to visit, there are a lot of trains to see with a good mix of epocs, there are also lots of little bits and pieces dotted around. It is too much biased towards French speaking, not much information for tourists, which is perhaps a little like a dropped ball as the exhibits are made in France, Germany, UK and America! A special mention should be made for the kitchen, the team are doing some really good food, not like a typical museum but like a restaurant, worth going just for lunch. The lady at reception was very welcoming, had a big smile and was knowledgeable, she spoke English, maybe German too.

Wonderful museum for these engineering marvels. Lots of different locomotives and coaches to see with interesting info for those who appreciate the workings of trains. Only a pity that a considerable amount of the info was only provided in french. A guide was inside, answering questions and providing us with an enthousiastic explanation on steam locomotives! If you want to really take your time visiting this museum, reading some of the info, count on spending around 4-5 hours, time flies here.
A must see if you like trains!

This place is a cathedral dedicated to the railway. A thorough exploration of the exhibition halls took me three hours. Special mention must go to the museum staff: the enthusiastic young man on the front desk gave me an overview, whilst the young lady in the restaurant was delightful and most helpful. Both spoke fluent English, which I appreciated - they were great ambassadors. I highly recommend this destination as an exceptional place to spend half a day!

Our kids simply love it! Cool installations with audio where they exhibit real life conversations in trains in historic hall, then there's also a part for showing the trains outside and finally a hall with modern trains. So all about French trains and beyond.
A tip: if you plan to visit several museums in the area, a museum pass can pay off especially if you have 2 or more kids, because one pass can take up to 5 kids with it

Amazon place, with an exceptional collection of trains, both ancient and new. Wonderful whether one is interested in history (trains are tightly linked to French and European history, but also to relationships with the US), in trains technology (a lot of details provided), in seing beautiful omthings from the past and of today. Spending 2 hours or the full day is possible: in any case, a marvel!
There is also a "model making" section.
Plenty of things to do with kids, in particular a comprehensive tour in a small train inside the whole exhibition.
Mulhouse Zoological and Botanical Park is a park that combines both botanical garden and zoo in its beautifully landscaped grounds. The park plays host to a variety of wild animals such as tigers, lemur, polar bear among others. One interesting feature of the zoo is the Australian outback habitat which houses kangaroos.
Sit on a hill, large, green and charmy. Perfect on a sunny day!

Not like any other. I can't say enough how amazing it was to have the time to visit the polar bears and just stare at them for minutes.
The arctic animals in general are interesting and it's the first time I've seen such.
The zoo was not packed nor crowded and apart from one class of schoolchildren who were extremely quiet, there was not mess around. I visited numerous zoos and this one was the only one I left with the will to come back again and see it.

Súper!!! It has many animals. A wide variety of monkeys (Marmosets monkey are my favourites). The first zoo where I see the red panda, and the blue birds from the movie Rio. 😅Although the weather was a bit cloudy, the site is worth a visit. On Saturday 9 they have prepared a plant market to welcome spring.

Not suitable for those who speak English.
Absolutely no consideration for visitors!
We were provided with a map in French, the employee at the ticket booth speaks only French as do 99% of French people we came into contact from pastries to different shops and restaurants.
A significant number of animals were not within their enclosures, either resting or relocated due to the cold i guess.
A section of the park is inaccessible due to ongoing construction.
We thought we would see the red panda, but it was nowhere to be found.
All in all nothing special to see.
50 euros for a 2 adults and 2 small children, a waste of time and money.
p.s. The toilets need renovation.

Half of the animals weren't in their enclosures (either sleeping or moved away from the summer heat). A portion of the park is closed for construction.
The botanical gardens on the other hand offer a very pleasant walk across the entire area of the park.

I have been here in the fall, spring, and now summer, and it has been an amazing experience each time. Great variety of animals: they have even white bears and a greenish bear! Nice mixture of zoo, botanical gardens, exhibition of local medieval houses and a great restaurant in the castle on zoo's grounds.
The Electropolis Museum in Mulhouse is a fascinating museum located near the train museum that educates visitors on the history and evolution of electricity. The exhibits showcase various electrical domestic appliances, as well as demonstrations to engage the audience. The highlight of the museum is a large dynamo, which is a steam engine and generator set borrowed from an old factory. This museum is perfect for families with children who want to learn about the experiment, theories, inventions surrounding electricity while being entertained at the same time.
Excellent museum of electricity with plenty of information in French, English and German. Very interactive, good for all ages from 5 years and up. It is located by the huge train museum and has a discounted combo ticket option. Must see in Alsace Lorraine.

Nice museum about the history of electricity. The beginning is somewhat dry and maybe not very appealing to children. The show about static electricity was great. „The machine“ was cool, but the videos chaotic.
Also liked the little experiments afterwards. Some could use some fixing.
Game in the garden was funny, but only doable because there weren’t many kids, would have been hard to do them otherwise.

The Musée de l'Impression sur Etoffes in Mulhouse is a museum dedicated to the history of printed textiles. It showcases the story of the city's rise as a leading textile center and how traditional printing techniques evolved over time with mechanization. The museum features an extensive collection of printed textiles from various countries, which began as archives by the Industrial Society during early years of textile manufacturing in Mulhouse.
This is a great museum because it shows the clear line of history of the dominant industry in Mulhouse from the 16-19th centuries: textiles and specifically, printing on textiles. It starts with original fabrics from 15-16th century India which had a big impact on Europe. When they decided to copy the fabrics they had to build up an industry that started with ginning through spinning and weaving to dyeing and printing. Within a few decades Mulhouse was an important producer. To speed things up they started mechanizing every stage of that production. Trade brought a lot of wealth to Alsace. This museum concentrates on the dyeing and printing aspects of that industry.

This was a surprisingly lovely museum and experience. It's two floors, with an exhibit that stays constant, and one that changes. It's tasteful and well done. It's never crowded (!) This museum is for: fashion and textile people, art students and artists, people who like history and the rise and fall of the industrial revolution, anyone with an aunty or mother in law who likes things like this :) Every thing is in French and it's small:)

We enjoyed the fabrics of display, the historical pieces the merchants brought from Asia and the Orient during the peak of textiles in Mulhouse, and the historical display of printed fabrics until the present. The latter was a probably the highlight for me. I wanted to see more fabrics, especially more dresses! Some were beautiful.
The building was purpose built as a museum. The entrance ticket was a small piece of printed fabric, that was a nice surprise. I liked the printing room a little less, but understand its value historically. I enjoyed also the small shop, just wish I had more to spend there.

Loved the museum, lots to look at. The printing block were amazing, sadly there was no printing demo on the day I went, would have loved to see that. Particularly liked the special feature; a graphic show of pattern projected and accompanied by specially composed music. Rather disappointing gift shop.

A rather large and imposing building for such a niche subject! The collections are interesting, but I was hoping for more technical content, perhaps even a working printing machine. We were a bit underwhelmed by the gift shop, hoping to find a larger selection, and more to our taste.

The Musee Historique de Mulhouse, a historical museum located in the square of Mulhouse, showcases local history and culture ranging from prehistoric times to the modern era. Housed in the former city hall building with beautiful exterior architecture, visitors can explore three floors filled with exhibits about Alsace and Mulhouse's past without paying an admission fee. While display information is solely available in French, visitors can still appreciate and comprehend the content.
Free entry which is very pleasant. Friendly staff.
Lots to look around inside.
Will be helpful to have some English information as all displays are either French/ German. Very hard to understand and having to translate everything to get a better understanding.
The only downside is having to wearing backpack on the front because they are afraid it will knock into something but this is rarely possible as most things are bordered off. It was actually worse trying to carry backpack on the front as made it difficult to move arms around and take photos or bend to see displays.

It is free, interesting, people working there are always trying to help and be polite. It was always a pleasure to visit it when i was living in Mulhouse, and bringing family or friends visiting. And now also a pleasure to come back to show it to more people :)
I don't know if museums should necessarily be free, but it really allows this coming back regularly to see the place under a different light with different people, and i do appreciate it !
Temple Saint-Etienne, a Gothic revival style church built in 1859, is the tallest Protestant building and the only Protestant church located on the main square in Mulhouse, France. It boasts of having the largest set of bells among all other Protestant churches in France. The church has retained several ancient elements such as glass windows from the 14th century and choir stalls dating back to 1637.
The best there is people that surround you)
Thanks for being polite to tourists!

A charming church, protestant. There is no ostentatious cross or large portraits, just an old book (Bible) on the altar. The carvings outside the church are super impressive, and the inside is unique as well. You can take the stairs to have a view from the top. It is all free (though remember God is watching, so make a donation!)

I saw this imposing structure at the center of Mulhouse and thought it was a cathedral but it's actually a Protestant church that is Calvinist. Standing 97 meters tall, the bell tower is visible from outside the city and certainly dominates any of the lanes or pedestrian streets inside the city with a view.
This is not the first structure here - there had been a Romanesque building from the 12th century but it was removed in 1858. The new building was constructed between 1859 and 1866, designed by Jean-Bapsiste Schacre.
Inside the church, don't miss the leaded-glass windows that date to the 13th century. And if you're here when they ring, the bells are the largest of any Protestant church in France.

The most important building of Mulhouse area. Iconic and great Architecture, the exact heart of the city. Almost all touristic spots and shopping streets are located around this church.

Nice old protestant church.

Located on Réunion Square, in the heart of Mulhouse, this temple was built between 1858 and 1868 on the site of a church dating from the 12th century.
His plans are due to J.B. Schacre, in a neo-Gothic style then very fashionable.
It still houses the magnificent stained glass windows that were in this old church. The latter are among the most beautiful in the Upper Rhine.

In December, the light show on the St.-Etienne Protestant temple ( Mulhouse) starts at 17:00, slowly and majestically.
It is worth the wait.
The Belvédère tower, situated on Belvedere mountain in Mulhouse, resembles the Eiffel Tower with four legs and several levels. Constructed in 1898 by Ph. Ant. Fauler, this 20-meter tall tower provides a stunning view of Mulhouse and its affluent surroundings such as Vosges, Schwartzwald, Jura and Alps.
The overview is really nice over the Mulhouse city and also it is interesting that from the top of the tower, you can orient yourself and discover the directions to various important geographical points: the Alps, the Black Forest mountains, big cities etc..

a great view from the top over the whole region and especially the city of Mulhouse

The tower itself is neither beautiful nor innovative, nothing to look at it. However, it's in a part of Mulhouse that's affluent and very different from the center and it was fun getting there by bike. I rather enjoyed it but I agree with some of the other reviews, I wouldn't go unless I'm in the area (which is what happened).

Great place to see the surrounding area. Located next to a Park. A great place for friends and family and pets.

I do not understand why Mulhouse imposes a tourist tax (on top of the sales tax), that has the sole purpose to discourage people of visiting Mulhouse and does not bring any benefit

Very friendly staff that can answer questions in a variety of languages. Mulhouse is worth visiting and this should be your first stop so that you can pick up information on the places that are currently open.
Les Halles du Marche du Canal Couvert in Mulhouse is a must-visit for market enthusiasts. The covered market has been operational since 1971 and is known for its fresh and organic produce. One can find an extensive selection of wines, meats, and cheeses from the Alsace region. Additionally, clothing vendors add to the vibrant atmosphere of the street market. However, it's impossible to see everything due to its large size.
Very nice market you can find many nice and tested oriantal and Halal food 🥘

Lots of empty stores in Tuesday market, hence, loss of 1 star. However, no trouble parking. Plenty of fruit and vegetable stores and market hall was very good, although again, lots of stalls not occupied.
Melvyn Francks — Google review
I liked this place. Free parking for 90 minutes, good price\quality of food in the market outside the main building, really fresh fish for reasonable price. For those who is looking for cheap clothes this place will be a good choice.
After several months I finally found the place where you can enjoy real open street-market, and also to bargain for prices ;)

Nice website, so we took on ourselves to visit the market. Wasn't exactly as expected, only few delicatesse shops, the rest either cheap clothes and accessories. Not worthwhile.
Eswiss64 — Google review
We went there on a Thursday at 3:15 pm.
Unfortunately the opening hours are wrong. Alle shops inside were closed or about to close. But must be nice when open…. Maybe next time.

A dream for market-fans: large selection of meat & cheese, streetmarket too large to see everything
wolfgang steinhoff — Google review
I expected to discover a market with lots of different stalls and goods. But its not what I expected at all.
You can find fruits, vegetables and meat, fish, bakery (inside/covered). A bit the same every where.
And the bigger part of the market is outside and uncovered and you'll find clothes "middle east style". All were selling the same style... Well, that attracted quite many people, but definitely not my cup of tea.
Once and never ever again.
Silvio Stritt — Google review
A sad place... it probably used to be lively and diversified but now, it is just a very uninspiring market. The market is even worse. Fruits and veggies stalls are filled but the products seem to be 3rd choice. The spices are all packaged imports of 4rd grade and nothing authentic can be found. This is where the market glory ends... it probably used to be great. But sadly it also is very representative of Mulhouse... the town has lost any luster and no one seem to find the motivation to make it a great city... it has so much history and great landmarks ( the baths alone are worth the visit)... when you think the local hypermarket has more to offer and is more exciting, this is time for the mayor to wake up... so much potential lost by mediocrity...
The Église Saint-Étienne is the main Catholic church located in Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin. It boasts of impressive dimensions that are worthy of a cathedral, much like its neighboring temple, the Reformed Saint-Etienne. The magnificent edifice houses a majestic organ and beautiful statues, creating an ambience of peace and tranquillity. Its interior is filled with light and colors that make it stand out amidst its surroundings.
A beautiful neo gothic style church built in the 1850s by Jean-baptiste Schacre. Beautiful architecture inside and preserved stained glass windows, restored after the damage during the war. Once inside it is amazingly peaceful and serene. The exterior can be viewed in its entirety from parc steinbach giving a lovely view framed by the trees in the park.

(Translated by Google) Architecturally speaking the place is magnificent without being too busy, office-wise, it’s the Place to Be in Mulhouse.
In close collaboration with the school and the Jeanne d’Arc high school next door, the priest is young and modern.
This parish had the audacity and courage to embark on a magnificent sound and light show movingly retracing the history of Alsace.
The effects, the touch of Wagner and the white partisans in the soundtrack almost reestablished me with the church.
So be curious and don’t hesitate to push open the heavy door to come visit these places.

La Filature is a capacious theater that features modern plays, orchestral performances, operas and art exhibitions. It also has a contemporary dance program and an exhibition gallery along with a bar (currently not operational). The location of the venue in Mulhouse means visitors can easily plan trips for several days to take advantage of all the cultural sites nearby. Furthermore, it's an exceptional spot to experience classical music in peace.
Very nice and spacious theater with a program of variety. Contemporary dance is certainly part of it. There are a gallery for exhibitions, a bar (temporarily closed). The city also has many cultural sites so a trip of several days is easy to plan without mentioning all the nice places around Mulhouse.
