A fabulous house museum, which gives you a real insight in how the inhabitants lived through the ages, from 1760s when it was built onwards. Beautiful tapestries, embossed wallpaper and household items, and collections of glass and pottery. Highlight of my visit to Dordrecht. Good cafe too.

Lovely 1700-1800's period home with complete rooms and all the owners artifacts plus some more which create an interesting museum for adults and children. Includes a coffee shop in the back. Located in a setting over looking a boat-filled canal. Very charming and well done. Nice booklet guide worth keeping as a momento.

Huis van Gijn brings you 100 years back in time and gives you a close look to the lavish life of van Gijs.
The entrance is free for kids, and I have no idea how much the entrance is for adults, though I used my Rotterdampas for free entry 😁
I wouldn't recommend this place for kids under the age of five because there is nothing interactive for the little once. Main visitors were adults and elderly so running or overactive kids might annoy the visitors.
There are interesting unique rooms inside, like the room with gold and leather wallpaper (the one and only in the Netherlands!)
The only interactive thing is the opportunity to get dressed as the 1900s 😁 my 10 years old daughter loved it.
In the basement, you can find a collection of toys and dolls and an adorable carousel. It doesn't belong to the house of Gijn, though.

Simon van Gijn was a banker and an avid collector of beautiful objects throughout his life. The collection is displayed in this absolutely unique museum, the original house where the couple used to live. Everyone will be amazed at the collection of art, furniture, carpet, cutlery and hundreds and thousands of other beautiful objects. Highly recommended and is certainly a must when you come and visit (or live in) Dordrecht

Nicely maintained museum. Lots to see and so much of it accessible from close up. After a visit through the home a nice garden to enjoy a lunch, coffee, tea and sweets.
There is an elevator to access the museums many levels.
Rotterdampas is accepted for free entry (as are many other local museums).

A very atmospheric place, like plunging into the last century, walking around the rooms and imagining past times, it was exciting!!! Special thanks to the staff, the man at the checkout was very kind to us and friendly. A MUST TO VISIT.
Dordrechts Museum is a stunning art museum located in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. It showcases an impressive collection of paintings ranging from the 16th century to contemporary art. The museum offers workshops and tours for visitors to fully immerse themselves in the artwork and history of Dordrecht and the Netherlands. Additionally, it features a restaurant and bar with artistic decor.
I like the beautiful collections of the Dutch old masters. The audio guide connects the art works to the history of Dordrecht and the Netherlands . The staff there are super friendly and helpful. The restaurant and Bar look very artistic and specious.

I really how different themes and the effect of different centuries are combined and shown in such an authentic way! You start with classical pieces and then it evolves to modern pieces, you finish it with hands on experience, I drew myself using a photo they provided, it was really fun!

Beautiful museum with a far richer, larger, and varied permanent collection than expected. Much larger inside than the building appears from the outside. Well worth the visit!

I recommend the permanent collection. There is a room dedicated to Ary Schepper. There are paintings by Rembrandt and portraits of Max Liebermann and Israels. The collection spans several centuries.
The space is contemporary and there is a cafe, a garden and a large auditorium. They also have a youth program called TakePart. It is a paid internship for youth between 16 and 22.
The public education program allows people to learn about the special exhibits and also interact with artists.
The elevator makes the spaces accessible for those using wheelchairs and walkers, as well as baby carriages.
My visits were on a Friday and Saturday. I also took a summer course on those days.

A magnificent museum that has curated 6 centuries of Dutch masterpieces. Dordrecht is not exactly a tourist city but it's only 15 minutes by train from Rotterdam, or about an hour from Amsterdam. It's a gorgeous city full of history. It's really worth a visit and this museum certainly is!
Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht is a serene and peaceful nature reserve that offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, and kayaking. It boasts several rivers and little lakes with recreational areas for swimming. The reserve has an abundance of wildlife that can be observed while exploring the trails or navigating through the streams between branches. Additionally, visitors can rent boats or canoes to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
Love this park so much, always enjoy the nature and sphere. Lot of activities to do both children and adult. We always there when the nice weather is.

Love beavers? This is an anazing centre for exploring the best area of the Biesbosch: there's a whole range of self-guided walks that begin here.
The cafe (newly renovated with a new, incredible menu) is wonderful too - even if you don't love beavers! There are views out onto the water ways, the food is reasonably priced, fresh, artisinal and delicious (you can get crisps, soft-drinks and all the kid-friendly choices, but their sandwiches, cakes and coffees were next level.)
The Museum section is interesting and interactive, even if you can't read Dutch. The staff were friendly and helpful (and all spoke perfect English). Clean modern toilets.
The shop has a great range of items (including many beavers) for a good price too.
I recommend the little foot-Ferry that takes you onto the island (I think) is called Pilot Whale Island. It costs €2 for a return and €1 for children and runs at quarter to a d quarter past from about 10am to 5pm, but do check. We had the most wonderful walk around the green paradise - totally flat, wide grassy oaths and easy to navigate. There was one foot-bridge with steps at the centre of the figure-8 walk which could be skipped by making the walk into a shorter circle. We also walked the shorter 'beaverbos' walk (Beaver Woods) which had a human-sized beaver den and a wooden lake-lookout from which we saw a multitude of frogs croaking their little green heads off.
There is a high ropes centre that looks incredible and seems to be open most days, but was closed for a school trip when we visited, so check ahead, but our kids were more than happy to explore the area. We left with tired legs, full bellies, happy memories and a beaver plushy.

Park is amazing. You can walk or take a cycling ride based on youtr distance preference. Path is marked by colours. Pets are allowed except in some paths. You can go to the centrum and have an idea and a guidebook (if you wish) about the park.
There is a really good restaurant for a coffee, and a bite after a tired walking or cycling tour inside the park. The staff is really friendly. Apple pie is really tasty.!!

Beautiful place to cycle, hike, swim in the little lakes (recreatie strand), and go canoeing. If you can, take the kayak and navigate through the tiny streams between the branches, it's beautiful.
The service in the restaurant is...not great, we were awkwardly ignored and got our order wrong. But it's just after the relaxation of covid measures, and the rest of the day was awesome, so it's cool.

It is curiously sponsored by Dupont, which reeks of greenwashing. It is made to make money and the routes you are allowed to peddle are boring, there is an outlook point that is just shabby and it's just all a bit meh. Still enjoyable to take an electric boat out if you're with friends. We saw a beaver. Sadly, it was floating belly up in the water.

If you want to know a little bit more about the history of the Netherlands or the history of Dordrecht in particular this museum is the place to be.
It is housed in the historic district in Dordrecht in an early 16th century building that was once used as a place to stay by the various Princes of Orange Nassau during the 80 Years War in the 16th and 17th century. The building alone is therefore an interesting place to visit as history oozes from the walls.
Its entree fee is very reasonable.
The place has stairs but there is also an elevator in the center. There is also a little shop with a variety of books and toys.
The basement deep in the bowels of the building features a chronological collection of various finds at and around the city of Dordrecht.
The upper and middle floors house a good collection of historical artifacts, among them objects from the 80 Years' War.
There is also an interesting, clever, albeit somewhat unusual reenactment of the First Meeting of the Free States of Holland back in 1572 playing every 15 minutes or so. it is certainly worth checking out.
The interactive functions take a little effort to get into, as you have to 'register' before you enter and you need to find your registered name all throughout the museum to get extra background information. I have to be honest that after a few tries and being unable to find my name, I gave up.
While there, do check out the recently unveiled statue of Willem of Orange in the street leading from the States Square (Statenplein) to the Hof to commemorate the First Meeting in Dordrecht.

The exhibition on freedom was as interesting as it is relevant. The building is gorgeous and the curation masterful.
People have said 'oh it's just a gate'. Yes it's just a gate but a beautiful historic one, and certainly one of the most important landmarks in Dordrecht. Stunning view of the river Maas, close proximity to the Waterbus (a lovely experience in its own) and lovely café restaurants in the vicinity

There is not alot to see other than the gate. I was hoping there was a historical marker or sign displaying the history. Maybe I should have read up on the internet. The gate itself is beautiful from the sea side. A quick stop when walking around Dordretcht.

The National Museum of Education in Dordrecht showcases the educational history of Holland through an impressive collection of textbooks, ink jars, satchels and photographs. It is a captivating museum that covers various periods with great care and beautiful displays. For those interested in education or visiting Dordrecht, this museum is highly recommended as it provides an opportunity to learn a lot about the subject.
Fantastic museum, the treasure hunt for 10+ year old kids with the "escape bus" is just great. The younger kids can also be quite busy. There is much to do, exhibition is very interesting, but still one has the impression that it could be better, for example the top floor has nothing except a movie. Anyway definitely worth a visit!

Small interesting museum in a beautiful building. This museum is about the history of education in the Netherlands. The right side of the museum is dedicated to elementary education and the left side to secondary education. In the basement there is a temporary exposition about reading. It is very interesting to see the teaching methods change over time, as well as seeing old teaching material and posters.
F. Nobels — Google review
Lovely museum showing snippets of Dutch educational history. The building it is currently housed in (De Holland) is gorgeous, as it was designed by Sybold van Ravesteyn (designer of the Rotterdam 'Blijdorp Zoo').
The museum could improve on some parts. The expositions feel fragmented, as it is hard to place them in the proper context. A fully decorated classroom would enhance the experience, in my opinion.
Do visit the museum, as the current experience is a very good one. There are a lot of good pieces on display that show the evolution of the Dutch educational system throughout the years. Children can also participate in a playful manner. For a small fee, you can rent a backpack full of fun things to do in the museum. No spoilers here, but my kids enjoyed themselves a lot.

It’s a very little museum and to watch all exposition will take about 1,5 hours if you are doing it slowly… there are few games which you can play with your kids, they have quest for kids. There is very pleasant little library with comfortable couch and a few places for siting where you can read a few books. Actually as my opinion museum meant for a kids 4-10 years old and I won’t recommend to go without kids you might won’t find much as you expected. museum cafe is good with a normal prices and tasty cakes from bakery. We parked our car at free parking close by and had a very short walk about 5 min to museum. I put 5 stars cause I liked this place to come with my kid and I like atmosphere: it’s calm and peaceful but not boring cv and you can sit without any gadget but just with a book and enjoy your family time and get some knowledges and food for thoughts.

A nice place to visit on a rainy day when in Dordrecht. We score it 3 stars because it could use an upgrade in interactive elements, or maybe something to make it a little bit more active for kids when there are not special events.
One of the best gin/jenever (Dutch gin) distilleries in the world. However instead of mass production using computerised machinery they stick to traditional methods involving various manual steps. The results are extraordinary gins that cannot be equalled. We attended a gin making workshop. So much fun. The lady owner who conducted the workshop is so charming and friendly and of course, highly knowledgeable. Come to Dordrecht and visit their shop in the centre of the city. Highly recommended! A very authentic interesting museum about the local events in Dordrecht during the second world war. They show how life was for the people who endured increasingly the scarcity of groceries towards 1944 and 1945. Booklets that explained how a nutritious meal could still be prepared from tulip bulbs and other non courant plants. Ersatz coffee. How to make a stove in order to be able to cook after the gas was cut off. A bicycle to tred to energize the dynamo to power the radio set to be able to listen to Radio Oranje in England.
The museum must be kept vivid!

Zeer mooi en goed onderhouden oeroud gebouw is dit. Leiden heeft een mooi stadhuis maar Dordrecht dingt naar de 2e plek op de lijst. Met de auto kom je er niet in de buurt. Gelukkig... Gorgeous venue with stunning architecture! Beautiful foyer, comfortable seats, many charming details. Nice acoustics, good size stage but very tiny orchestra pit (I wouldn’t even call it such!) The audience was welcoming and very much enjoyed our performance of Nutcracker. My only bitter impression came from one of the venue’s employees who quite arrogantly kicked out of the hall my 8-year old son and some of my colleagues from the orchestra, who got to rest that night due to the small size of the pit and asked if they could possibly watch the performance (there were some free seats in the hall, so they easily could have been accommodated).

We came an embarrassing 30 mins late. A crew member came to pick us and helped us to get in the show. He was so friendly. It’s a small theatre and nicely renovated and well maintained. Very pretty space. Super cute show where we had wine and snacks. Such an entertaining afternoon and so affordable! A gem for the city. I would go back.

Nice theatre with a real nice looking main 'stage'. Video (screen) could be a bit better with the Joris Luyendijk show - Het zijn net mensen 2.0. The small food/drink arrangement for the pause is a always a good thing to choose aswell.

Awesome little place. But don't choose first row (row a), because your neck will hurt from looking up. Due to the size, first row balcony is best.
Good restaurant/bar before and after events.
Angie Franssen — Google review
Nice atmosphere but not all that organized (1 consumption included in ticket price, but cannot be used before the show, some counter was apparently a performers-only counter). The place is very limited (at best) served by public transport! Very bad! But apart from that still a nice afternoon after all.

A hundred-year old theater that has been restored to its former glory. The venue has a cosy, family-like feel to it, with a small theater café.

Affordable with an upscale feel. Kunstmin is a pretty location with a nice, yet sometimes crowded bar to drink before and after a show. Acoustics in the actual stage are acceptable yet nothing spectacular. A great place to spend an evening out. Booster seats available for the culturally inclined child.
Saw a lovely choir here doing the Christmas Carol. A lovely little church.

Johan and Cornelis de Witt were 2 powerful brothers from the Dutch Golden age of the 17th century. Cornelis was the mayor of Dordrecht. Dordrecht was one of the most important cities that contained the Dutch fleet and Johan was the statesman of the Republic of Holland.
Johan was a free market, libertarian who believed in small government and more power to local authorities and helping the merchant guilds.
Unfortunately, Johan mismanaged a war and was disliked by the royal named Willem van Oranje. This led to the accusation of an attempted murder of the Willem that led to Johan's imprisonment in The Hague in the 'Gevangenpoort' and eventual death at buitenhof. Most famously know for its people cannibalising Johan's liver out of spite.
This led to the Mother begging for Cornelis de Witt his life but he was assassinated by a lynch mob.
This gave rise to the first king of Orange and turned the Dutch Republic into a Monarchy.

I contacted them via email to ask about bike rental and they encourage me to make a reservation in advance. So I made my reservation with 2 weeks notice for renting 2 e-bikes and one child seat for my 3 year old daughter.
When we arrived at the VVV desk the day of our reservation, they made me fill the forms and pay. And then they took me to get the bikes.
The child seat wasn't yet installed, they had to take it off another bike. The installation on my e-bike was quirky and they handed me the bike with the seat poorly attached, all loosy and moving.
They said they couldn't do anything else for me. So I asked for a refund and cancel the renting contract.
We went to the bike rental shop near the station, but the VVV staff made us lose such a lot of time that we had to cancel some of our plans for the day.
What a terrible service. If I make a reservation in advance, they should have prepared the bikes in advance and make sure the bikes and the seats were ready at our arrival.
I never recommend anybody to rent bikes here.
