Site Archéologique de Glanum is an extensive historical site that features the remnants of a Gaulish fort and a Roman town, including various structures like baths, forums, temples, and houses. This ancient town provides insights into the daily life of the Gauls during Roman times. The entrance to the site is marked by two monuments: France's oldest triumphal arch and a mausoleum dating back to around 30 BC.
We were pressed for time and did a speed visit in 40 mins. The audio guide is great, I wish we had more time to enjoy it. Worth taking the audio guide. If you don’t take an audio guide there are still enough signboards and bits of information around for you to understand things.
Don’t miss the view from the top of the hill!

Very interesting site with remains from Celtic Iron Age, Greek influence and Roman. Sacred spring area particularly good and great to be able to see the site and surrounding area from the two panoramic viewpoint high up on the side of the gorge. The models and display boards in the ticket office explain the site very well.

Definitely worth a visit. This site is quite big and with so many things to see. There are short trails around the site, too, for a panorama view of the site. Visitor center's information and an audio guide is all you need to understand the history here.

A Roman city rediscovered after 17 centuries! A beautiful walk through the ruins with information boards throughout in French and English. Amazing history and such a privilege to be able to access this site. Parking is about 50 mtrs away. Entrance fees were 8€ per person, under 18 years free.

A must visit and recommend getting the audio guide.
The findings and size of the site are high quality - just walking through, along the Main Street gives you a sense of how it must have been..
Lots of further information available in the shop.
The treasures are stored in the Hotel Sade - which was closed for winter when we were here - would loved to have seen that!

It may be a great start of a visit of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. There is an ancient town built even before the Rome empire came. Lots of buildings remain in a good state. You can see how everyday life of the town war organised. If you’re interested in archeology you’ll be excited as there are many activities related to it. So you can even give it a try. For kids there’re some performances and many books on a shop to tell in a simple way why archeology is important and what’s needed to become an archeologist. For sure it’s an amazing place for those who like history and the Roman period. Highly recommend visiting. It’s a rare case when an ancient city has been conserved so well.

After visiting, I am surprised that people don't say, "Hey, you must visit Glanum. There is a town called St. Remy near there too." Remarkable archeological site with excellent interpretation in French, Spanish and English. We got there on a Monday just as they opened and had the place nearly to ourselves. Definitely worth the short walk from the old part of town.

One of the most unexpected and interesting sites in the South of France. We always bring visitors, and they are always blown away. Nestled above one of my favorite cities in France, Saint Remy D'Province, Glanum really shows what ancient Roman life was like, in a walk-through, and touch and feel way. If you want to see true Roman ruins, go to Glanum, then on to Nimês to see one of the oldest intact Coliseums (300 years older than the one in Rome), a marvel!

An absolutely wonderful site to visit. A Gallo-Greek then Gallo-Roman city, the scale of which is very impressive. There are clear information panels in English and French. All is well prepared and explained. Traveling with someone with mobility disability, the staff were friendly and helpful. Not everywhere can be explored by wheelchair but there are plenty of passable paths while walking some sections with crutches was possible.
The monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole was a psychiatric asylum where Vincent van Gogh spent two months in 1889. The artist enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and completed some of his best work while there, including drawings and paintings of flowers. In 2005, the mental institution opened a reconstruction of Van Gogh's room to visitors. The gardens near the monastery are also popular with tourists, who can feel like Van Gogh himself during their visit.
Visit the asylum where Van Gogh lived for a year and painted such peices of art, Starry Night. The building is beautifully kept as is the courtyard and gardens. Information of the paintings he completed whilst staying at the asylum were scattered throughout the walk. Ypu get to go inside Van Goghs actual bedroom and look down at the beautiful gardens, where he got his inspiratiom. We paid 7€ per adult, under 12 was free. Parking is directly outside the building so very handy! A lovely shop inside where you can purchase books, prints, stationary etc for very reasonable prices. We went in Feb and it was very quite. We only stumbled across another couple so if you want to miss the crowds go in the winter months.

Beautiful area! But when we went on 12/27/23, it was closed and there was a sign saying that it is closed from 12/23/23 until 2/5/24. Still good to see the scenarios that Van Gogh was seeing when he lived here.

Retracing Van Gogh footsteps. you can feel how he felt in here. Garden is peaceful. Highly recommend to visit 👌
Taewoo Kim — Google review
Very heart-warming and emotional. (My second visit, actually)
Look out the same austere window that Van Gogh looked out while painting "Starry Night". Imagine what it was like to stay there. The medicine of the time... I think the little walk outside (free) was very cool. Watch for brass plates in the pavement with "Vincent" (his signature) written on them, then look up and see what he actually painted. Several signs are erected with a photo of a painting painted ON THAT SPOT. Look up and match the mountains in the distance to his paintings. Soak it all in!

You will never forget this place. Very quiet and beautiful. There is still a clinic on a site, which is closed for public. The garden is beautiful. Highly recommend to visit when in the area. I found Saint Rémy de Provence as the most beautiful town in Provence.

A place worth visiting for everyone that admires art and Van Gogh in particular. This is the clinic in which the artist spent several months in. At the interior you can visit his room and studio. The gardens are also worth visiting. Don't miss a visit to the nearby Les Baux en Provence.

Very worthwhile to visit. Van Gogh walk is overrated. I'd skip esp in this heat. But this monastery/asylum was very much worth it. It's crazy to walk through spaces once occupied by him. He stayed here for a year. There is no original artwork here or at the museum in saint Remy. But visiting the museum before was very helpful in keeping us informed. Also, at the museum they give you a coupon type thing that gives you €3 off at the entrance here. Do it.
Maroosh De — Google review
Great place to visit, not only if you appreciate Van Gogh! Very peaceful and charming backyard. You can visit Van Gogh's room. I just think they should have tried to keep the landscape more similar to what it was by the time he lived there. The view from his room has nothing to do with his gorgeous paintings anymore.

Monastery of Saint-Paul de Mausole is a former monastery. Several rooms of the building have been converted into a museum to Vincent van Gogh, who stayed there in 1889–1890 at a time when the monastery had been converted to an asylum. Parking is outside and it is free, the ticket to the Monastery is €7,00 per person.

Very enjoyable,I arrived early to escape the heat (mid summer) and was pleasantly surprised that there were just a handful of other tourists,so very peaceful, particularly when I had Vincent's room to myself.I'll let the photos do the talking..

If you have a half hour or hour while in St Remy and you are a fan of Van Gogh you must go. You get a sense of the calm, peace and beauty that surrounds this monastery and inspired Van Gogh (at least I'd like to think and hope he got some peace and calm there) .
An amazing experience at a 5 generation family run business that you have to do if you are in the area.
Baptiste gave us a very in-depth tour and really took the time to tell us all about their olive oil production (and lots to taste!). You can really tell how passionate he is about the produce.
On top of their incredible olive oil, they have so many other products to try that they make on site from their own produce along with other products from other small local businesses.
Everything we tried was out of this world and we really had to control ourselves to not buy everything in their amazing shop.
Thank you so much Baptiste for being so generous with your time!

Came here for a tour with a group and learned about the olive oil making process. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable. The tour ended with a sampling of not just olive oils, but vinegars, mustards, olives, jams, and more. It was all so good! The gift shop was plentiful with delicious items to take with us. Great stop.

Amazing olive oil tasting! We went there without expectations but hoping we could taste some oils. We were welcomed with a free tour of the oil-making process and a free tasting, where a really kind and knowledgable girl answered all our questions. We left with a lot of really good products and presents. Would 100% recommend, especially for food and cooking enthusiasts like me. It was the highlight of my Saint-Remy trip!

When in the area, I recommend visiting this place. They offer a small tour of their factory with a tour guide, free of charge. They speak French and English. Afterwards you can taste test the different kinds of olive oil and other products they (or other small businesses in the area) produce. The guide gives some more information about the products and what makes them special. In the shop, you can buy the products you liked. I recommend visiting this factory and buying a bottle of food olive oil for your salads!

Delicious olive oil, nice and friendly people. They offered nice tasting and visits in the olive pressing lines.
An experience that should not be missed. This is a classic Provençal farmers market with a range of goods from charcuterie, fruit, fresh produce, spices (herbs de Provence made locally)bread and other baked goods, fish, oysters, etc. on the non-food front there are clothes, hats, soaps, unique t-shirts, paintings most of these items have the artist on the creators sitting at the table. Most of the vendors spoke multiple languages so communication is not a problem if you don’t speak French.

The Wednesday market at Saint Remy is a must visit. It offers a wide array of high quality fresh produce, cold cuts, excellent cheeses, pickled olives etc. besides all kinds of clothing & shoes. There are several antique shops selling silver and other adornments. Cannot return empty handed.
A short walk from the old part of town. Two absolutely stunning examples of Roman monuments. It is hard to believe how well presented they are. They are free to visit, too. A great addition to your visit to Glanum.
Chris King — Google review
Cannot believe this place is still standing. Very impressed.
Ted Chen — Google review
It was formerly the entrance to the city of Glanum.
The Jules Mausoleum was erected by the Julii (one of the major Roman families), in honour of their father and grandfather. It is particularly well preserved. It has a rectangular base with four sculpted fasciae, it is surmounted by a triumphal arch, on top of which ukulele have a small round temple with columns and a pyramidal roof; this temple houses the effigies of the two people to whom this exceptional monument is dedicated.
The Triumphal Arch was restored in the 18th century, when its roof was replaced with slate stone. It is adorned with reliefs illustrating Caesar's conquest of the Gauls. However, the fruit and foliage, symbols of abundance, suggest the benefits of pax romana.

I stopped off here quickly whilst doing the Van Gogh walk, I didn't have time to look at the main ruins (which I regret). I just had time to take in the two structures near the carpark. Very interesting, I loved the Bad Relief panels and the close access you could get to these Roman ruins

Beautiful Roman remnants. We came here as part of a half day tour from Avignon. At first glance, it just seems like old landmarks. But there are some interesting bits of history connected to them. If you don't have a tour guide, I'm sure you could just google or Wikipedia it to get some basic details. Popular site though. Lots of tourists and groups of school children on the premises in mid-May 2018.

A little hard to read the signs as they have been weathered down and have become a little hard to decipher, however this is a magnificent site which I highly recommend to anybody who likes history even a little. It's along the Via Domitia which is the oldest road in France and it is impeccably preserved.

The Musée Estrine - Présence Van Gogh is a contemporary art museum located in an 18th-century mansion, offering an interpretation center dedicated to Van Gogh. While it doesn't house any original Van Gogh paintings, it features audio-visual displays about the artist and a permanent collection of modern art. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, making it a delightful stop for art enthusiasts.
Lovely little museum which chronicles the life of Van Gogh. Examples of local modern artists on display.
Tony Mole — Google review
Really enjoyed this little art museum. Yes, they have a Van Gogh presentation, but no Van Gogh's. That was made perfectly clear by the woman that sold us our ticket at the entrance (she did a great job). But the exhibitions they had were great. Well done and I think better than the Van Gogh documentary. Skip the Van Gogh presentation (you can get most of that on line) and go straight to the art. Small enough to cover in an hour as you explore St Remy.
Jim White — Google review
Not really worth the entry fee. There isn't enough quality art on display to justify the fee. The Van Gogh thing is like a school project, it's a joke. Even with the audio guide device none of it is interesting enough nor is it anything you can't get from a Wikipedia page (not an exhibition, none of his actual work is on display). There seems to be a French attitude with "museums" and galleries prevalent in France where travelers are only there to be taken advantage of. They'd charge unreasonable sums of money while they feel nothing much needs to be provided in return. It isn't money or time I cannot get back. You could spend your time and money elsewhere in better ways so stay away.

Another excellent local museum in St. Rémy-de-Provence. When we visited at the beginning of October, the museum closed for two hours at noon for lunch. We arrived after lunch and had the place virtually to ourselves - it was a delight!
Very informative museum host, Chantal, took our ticket money and explained the museum, carefully explaining that there are no original works of van Gogh’s on exhibit here, but rather the exhibition about him is cultural and ethnographic and describes his life and experiences in St. Rémy. Great description of van Gogh’s life and particularly how his periods of painting changed based on his life events and time at the mental institution in St. Rémy. Lovely movie with images of surrounding countryside Van Gogh painted and reproductions of how he painted them. Audio guide available for free in English for VG exhibit.
Another exhibit was on when we visited - of Juliette Roche, a contemporary painter from the early 1900s. Madame Chantal explained about Roche’s work for us a bit, which made the visit so enjoyable.
Permanent paintings also include some Roche works, as well as some of her husband’s (who’s name I forget at this moment), and a few other contemporary artists who worked locally.
Great museum for small St. Rémy - very worth our visit!

In the PARKING nearby there are a couple of guys doing money frauds with tourists and credit cards. They pretend to work in the parking, saying the payment stations dont work, they send you to the bank nearby and say you can pay the parking thete, and then another "random guy" enter the bank (when its closed so only you are there), he confuses you somehow and steal the card. The tourisme offixesaid it happens to many tourists, but for some reason they have ZERO warning about it. They managed to get the card with quick hands like a magician, they took it when it came out of the machine while distracting us, and stole 1300 euro 2 minutes later

The hospitality was rather poor and not very welcoming. The guide just went for his presentation and some facts and did not really try to make it interactive. However, the visit of the cellar was impressive (Extremely modern technology) and interessting in general. The actual tasting was carried out in a hall while standing which was uncomfortable. The wine did not meet the expectations. Eventually, they also produce nice olive oil.

After following many twists and turns from D99 (watch carefully for signs!) we arrived at an imposing structure at the foot of the Alpilles. We were cheerfully greeted, offered some wonderful "degustations" (tastings of some of their wines), and brought into this amazing "cathedral" built into the mountain, and lined with huge oak wine casks. The gentleman explained their processes (understood much better by my daughter who is the wine connoisseur in the family) while I happily snapped a few photos. We departed with several bottles and enjoyed a wonderful bottle of their rose in our patio that evening. This was one of our favorites of the Provencal wineries that we visited.

My mother, sister and I spent a day driving to several wineries in the area of Saint Remy, and this one was, by far, our favorite. The surrounding scenery is stunning, the grounds are absolutely beautiful (one of the prettiest wineries I've been to anywhere), the tasting facility is large and welcoming, and the woman who was facilitating the tastings the day we visited was so friendly and accommodating. We don't speak French, but her English was quite good and she made us feel very welcome. We tasted at least five wines and two olive oils and there was no charge for tasting, which is rare in the US. They have some gift items like candles and soaps. Best of all, we really enjoyed the wines! We bought a number of bottles to enjoy during our trip as well as to send home.

The mansion is really impressive, a short alley of trees leads you to a wonderful old house with fountain pool in front of it. We have visited this wonderful place on our way from Arles while searching for quality olive oil and came to the right place. Their olive oils have won some awards namely NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition. We have come there for olive oil but also ended up with a few bottles of vine and an unexpected treasure which turned out to be their balsamic vinegar. They also own some other vineyards (Chateau la Genestiere) so the vine selection is excellent as they also offer those vines. You will not regret taking a trip there.

It presents quite varied collections (paintings, furniture, everyday objects, etc.) on the popular traditions of Provence.
The visit takes a good hour if you want to cover all the sections in detail. It allows you to learn more about the history of St Rémy after strolling through the typical streets of the historic center.
During the same stay, we visited the Museon Arlaten in Arles and, in my opinion, the visit to the two museums is complementary for those who want to know more about the roots and traditions of the region.

Undoubtedly it is a beautiful fountain, under the bust two large fish and three smaller lion heads adorn the work, serving as gargoyles. Here modesty may be considered a precious thing. In any case, I enjoyed it, even if Nostradamus' work never won me over.

Have drank Henri Milan’s wines at home in Los Angeles, so it was a pleasure to visit their winery for a tasting. We tasted 10 wines, all of which had their own unique personality. Bonus points for all the cute farm pups wanting to play fetch ;)

We stumbled on this place looking for a tasting and Natalie was very accommodating. The wines were amazing- seriously, I don’t always like the taste of wine but I loved every single one of the 10 we tasted. A very special experience. Wish we could’ve taken more bottles back home. Will definitely look to buy more from the states if we can. Thank you Natalie!

This place is amazing. Tucked away but packs a big natural wine punch. Natalie was so nice and we loved hearing about her personal journey that brought her to the winery. I enjoyed everything, but the Pet Nats took the crown. Thanks again, Nat! Looking forward to finding your wine back in LA.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon during their open hours (3pm-6pm) to find it completely closed with a sign: tasting by appointment only. This is not indicated in their website, and there were 2 more cars of guest arrived after us and were equally disappointed.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the wines or our visit to Domaine Milan! We scheduled a tasting as a group of 4 visiting from the United States in November 2021. Natalie was the most gracious host as she walked us through the history of Domaine Milan, the agriculture, and even recommendations as an American vacationing in France. The only downside is that we couldn't stay even longer. Domaine Milan is an absolute must for anyone interested in or open to exploring a variety of unique natural wines! We will be lifelong customers!
Heather Ritchey — Google review
Domaine Milan's natural wine is vibrant and exciting, while still staying elegant (not as "wild" or "weird" as some of the other natural wine out there). We had the pleasure of spending some time with Sebastian, the incredibly knowledgeable and personable caviste. There's something for everyone here in the line-up: lively pet-nat bubbles, well-aged white blends, tannin-heavy Grenache, and even a floral and delicate gin. Please make a reservation ahead of time. Well worth the drive!

The place is nice and the tasting generous. The white wine 'La Carrée' is exceptional. However, the prices are too steep for buying it at the production site.
Sade Hotel, located near Place Favier, is owned by the family of the Marquis de Sade, with ancestral ties to the town. The medieval ambiance of the area is enhanced by Musee des Alpilles in a former Renaissance mansion nearby. This museum showcases archaeology, ethnology, graphics and photography. Saint-Re is known for its gastronomy and hosts a weekly market offering local produce.
Wonderful little museum that you should not miss if you visit Glanum excavation site. Small but very informative historic presentation. The site also evokes a sense of the continuity through the centuries.

We bought the tickets for both Glanum and the Hôtel de Sade museum (billets jumeaux) but we weren’t all that impressed with the museum itself. It’s really more about the excavations of the site of Glanum, with fewer artefacts than might be expected. The museum is in St Rémy de Provence, a bit of a walk on a very hot day.

The museum does not have much to offer and can easily be skipped. It does not at all stand up against the ruins on the outskirts of the city. The museum struggles to even fill anything of importance in it's four small rooms.

Darn place doesn't open until until June 17 despite it's relationship to Glanum and it's status as a " Centre Des Monuments Nationaux". How disappointing! It's an archeological museum, folks, so don't get turned on or off because of it's name.

(Translated by Google) Small archaeological museum located in St Rémy.
I bought the combined ticket with the Glanum website. 10 euros for 2 entries.
The museum exhibits the results of the Glanum excavations. I was surprised and, I admit, a little disappointed by the few pieces presented.
After this "little disappointment", I really appreciated the great quality and beauty of the "Gallic" or Gallo-Greek remains of Glanum (crouching warrior, steles, pediment, Corinthian capitals).
The videos on the detail and conservation of the mausoleum (Antiques), one of the best preserved in the Roman world, are interesting.
Besides that...several big disappointments: the museum is not very modern and deserves better highlighting and presentation of the pieces. The presence of a temporary restaurant in the hotel courtyard makes visiting the ancient thermal baths very unpleasant. Especially when the employees prepare the tables in the middle of the afternoon.
Finally, I found it a shame that the museum shop focused on the sale of trinkets (particularly relating to Asterix).
Finally, the welcome was friendly and was provided by 2 people passionate about ancient Rome.

I was amazed, and I couldn't help but wonder why such an archaeological treasure was not more highlighted. There is very clearly a lack of information and communication on this historic site of incredible value for those interested in the Gallo-Roman world or simply in our history. I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize that the staff of the national monuments center I met on site are remarkable and spare no effort to attract visitors, but we must help them and give them more means to do so... I will take this opportunity the highest public cultural authorities (I even wonder if I am not going to write to the President of the Republic?) about this abnormal situation.

She was on the phone and about to hang up. The manager approached us like a fury, claiming that no one should have a phone on the premises. Shameful for her! It is a great lack of respect to address potential customers in this way. The window is not everything, relationships are essential. I do not recommend at all! Run away
