The Bangor Castle Walled Garden, constructed in the 1840s, is a stunningly landscaped garden with a centralized fountain that is open to visitors from April through November. The garden is surrounded by brick walls and offers guests a peaceful respite from their daily lives. Additionally, there is a café available for visitors to enjoy and a small function area that can be used for weddings. The grounds are immaculately maintained with every plant, herb and bush having its own unique story.
Amazing garden that looked great even on the rainy day in mid September. Had a nice chat with a few volunteers working there. I am already making the plans to visit early spring when all the primula candelabra will be in flower.

I love going to the walled Gardens. When your in them you don't feel like you in bangor. It's just beautiful. Plus you can get a coffee from cafe on the grounds.

Such a stunning walled garden with a lovely little cafe. The cafe is mostly just buns and coffee so I wouldn't go for lunch. Still a great place to catch up with friends in a beautiful setting.

Glorious gardens with amazing, interesting, beautiful plants. A lovely place to walk or sit on one of the benches scattered around the garden. The central fountain/pond is charming and there is such a serene sense of peace and tranquility throughout. The cafe is an added bonus and the bathrooms are clean and accessible. Different shows at different times of the year. Free admission. A place that takes you out of the city and into a peaceful oasis.

Stopped off whilst waiting to collect someone. Didn’t even know this place existed. A beautifully landscaped walled garden and a really peaceful spot. Not a bad cafe either and you might even catch a small wedding ceremony in the grounds as there’s a small function area beside the cafe. Parking is available at the leisure centre.

Visited today with the start of Spring. Sun was shining and the visit was a pleasant surprise with well maintained gardens. Also Coffee Cure within the Wall with outside seating (Not open on Mondays). Toilets adjacent to the Coffee Shop.

Very pleased to say the gardens are looking splendid this year. One section is cleared ready for planting but that doesn't stop the beautiful show of plants that are waiting for your pleasure along paths and in side by side with great sculptures. Do bring a bowl for your dog to drink from with the hot weather as there are water taps around but a lack of drinking places for them. They are also running a pumpkin competition and have forms plus free plant 🪴

Unbelievable 😍! A place full of energy. Every single plant, every single herb, every single bush, they have their story. Plants that I have never seen before, flowers with two colors at the same time, for example...
Clean, tidy, maintained. A place to sit with pleasure and enjoy nature's creations.

Lovely pathways surrounded by lush green nature leading to a stunningly beautiful flower garden. Many amazing, vibrantly coloured flowers and plants to admire and many areas to get lost in the serenity of. Plenty benches to relax on as well as a quaint little cafe in the garden to grab a nice coffee, tea or a snack at. Enjoyed my time and would definitely visit again

Great garden with some beautiful flowers and plants. The open air sculpture exhibit was nice even if a few branches of wood zip ties together cost a grand.

Really good gig from Eric Bell of Thin Lizzy fame. The walled garden is a great venue and hosts many events throughout the summer and I am sure there is something there for you. This year a canopy covered the stage and seating area which means you stay dry if it rains and it has a comfortable breeze to keep you cool on hot days
Crawfordsburn Country Park is a serene and picturesque oceanfront park that offers visitors a range of activities to enjoy. The park boasts well-maintained wooded nature trails and a spacious beach, as well as a visitor center and cafe for refreshments after exploring. Popular with dog walkers throughout the year, the park has ample car parking facilities along with numerous waste bins for easy disposal. While some paths can be muddy in winter, there are plenty of easy walks suitable for all fitness levels.
Nice spot for a day on the beach with the kids or the dog. The coastal path goes right down to Bangor. Wee cafe in the carpark is handy for a coffee. Can get very busy in good weather.

Fantastic place to walk with ppl and animals, the views are outstanding. There is a great trek that leads to a waterfall. It also leads onto a beautiful beach with lots of sand and scenery right over the sea and surrounding areas. It also has a cafe with great facilities, like a restaurant and restrooms. Plus a variety of stuffed animals on show which has stories of the animals in the forest outside.

Most people tend to walk towards the beach area when they arrive at Crawfordsburn Park but there is so much to see within the country park forest area especially during autumn time. Plenty of paths and walks to suit all ages and fitness levels. And the big bonus is the great Cafe for a well earned cuppa or meal afterwards.

Great spot. Lovely walk along the seafront and great camping location for the Scouts. Cafe and toilets at found at the centre and the food isn’t bad. Hard to park during sunny days so best to avoid unless you’re early or really late. One way system is a nightmare to navigate at night - absolute nightmare.

I was pleasantly surprised by the supreme quality of everything we ate at the cafe here. I was not expecting that at a park.
Very peaceful, friendly guests, and great trails leading back to a waterfall.

We love this place. Great walks and plenty to see. The walk up to the waterfall is fantastic and enough of a walk to tire the young ones. The coastal path is very good and flat. Suitable for wheelchairs. The park is very tidy and well looked after but also is natural looking and not staged like some country parks.

Many lovely aspects; the meadows and forest, the waterfall and the beach.
Can get very busy at the beach at times you'd expect e.g. sunny weekends, but weekdays tend to be a bit more settled
Perfect place to come for a walk or a summertime picnic 🧺

Love walking from the visitors centre down to the beach. Saw 3 seals yesterday and lots of sea birds. Apparently there is a great park run there too. Visitors centre offers a welcome drink etc. Lits of people swim there too..even in Winter!

Out for a walk today with my mate to take advantage of some of this great weather we have been getting. Walked round to helensbay beach which was surprisingly empty compared to previous weeks but then all the schools are back now, still a few people in swimming and lying around on the beach. Walked up church road and back to the main entrance to the park and continued down into the park and eventually to the cafe for a nice cappuccino and Scone. Cafe pretty busy but then it always is lovely produce to be had here.

This was our family trip for the very first time to this place. Easter Sunday the weather was incredible and the park exceeded our expectations. There was one little thing we didn't enjoy but let's start with positives. The park is amazing, large, and beautiful with plenty of space for walking. The moment you leave the forest you will have an amazing surprise with a stunning sea view. The beach, water, view, and atmosphere are just fantastic. However, the one thing which stands up is the amount of dogs. I know it is a park, I love animals but it was just too much for me.

Easy walks in the woods or on the beach. Plenty of car parking. Very popular with dog walkers all year round and plenty of bins for waste. Dogs very often off the lead. Paths are well maintained but some can be muddy in winter. Very busy on warmer summer days. Opening hours are very restricted. Ridiculous that the gate to main car parks not open before 9am

Great country park mixing forest and seaside with a nice rambling path between here and Helen's Bay. The Woodlands Cafe is a great asset where you can rest , have a meal or snack, and then continue on your merry way . The Visitors' Centre doesn't look the best at the minute but it does seem under some sort of makeover so maybe there is a plan there.
Pickie Funpark is an entertainment venue with various attractions, including pedal swan boats, a narrow-gauge railway, playgrounds and mini golf. Ideal for toddlers and young children on sunny days, the park also offers free admission to play areas and splash pads. Tickets must be purchased online for other activities such as hit and spin. The cafe serves reasonably priced food while ice cream is highly recommended.
I visited the park in December. Services were closed, perhaps because it was raining. You need to check the opening days. The park is charming and children can have a lot of fun.

Good old fashioned family fun. Kids loved our day out.
The staff were very hard working and lovely, especially the staff at the swans and the candy shack.
Thanks for some great memories with the kids, will return again.

We had a great day at the Pickie Park Pumpkin Patch. It wasn't too crowded when we visited and staff are still sanitising equipment which is reassuring. My little boy loved all of it, from the train to the ducks and log flumes. And of course the Pumpkin Patch itself was a big hit. Looking forward to returning again soon.

Well laid out and not too far a walk for little ones from train station (why drive when you can train it, all part of the fun). We stopped in Heatherlea Bakery for sit in lunch en route which I recommend for all ages. Walk by Marina is lovely, Pickie is well laid out and would amuse little ones in a group for a good few hrs. Pedal swans, Dizzy Ducks and Ride on Train are a must. Not fussed on the amusement type area but that's just not our vibe, Crazy Golf looked good , play park is grand, Water Play area although small is a great idea, unfortunately we didn't get the weather. Great to see a few changing cubicles (beach huts) alongside. Average pricing and fairly clean. Could do with a tidy up in front of cafe and weeds at entrance -small improvements would make a big change. Overall would recommend and will be back when the weather hopefully improves. Nice to go somewhere different for a day

Fun place to bring your toddlers and young kids, and definitely better to bring them here on a sunny and hot day! You need to buy tickets online but admission to the playpark and splash pads are free. My 5 yo daughter was able to take part in all activities except the hit and spin due to height restriction (golf was also a bit boring for her). Food served in the cafe was decent and reasonably priced. And of course no visit would be complete without trying one of their ice creams 🍦🍦🍦

We had fun on the mini golf and in the pedalo swans. Such friendly staff, spotlessly clean and delicious coffee. It's in an enviable position right beside the marina. We love visiting here anytime we're up in Bangor from Dublin.

Bring back the band I really feel the tickets are a rip off as much as my daughter loved the park the band was better value and your the waiting time in the splash park for the sprinklers to come back on was lengthy with kids getting fed up waiting. Great day thou brilliant weather some new attractions.

One of my favourite places to visit! So glad to see it open again! Super friendly and helpful staff, lovely cafe, and lots to see and do. The only downside is the disabled car parking spaces, they seemed super far from the entrance...Oh and the purchasing of the ride tokens is a bit more complicated with the Covid restrictions at the minute. But still, highly recommend a visit!

The North Down Museum is located at Bangor Castle and showcases the history of the local area from ancient times to modern day through rotating exhibits. One notable exhibit features a replica Viking longhouse for visitors to explore. The museum also has a climate change exhibition and offers plenty of attractions for children. Visitors can enjoy indoor or courtyard seating at the on-site cafe, which is open daily, as well as browse unique items in the shop.
Great place to visit.. amazing welcoming staff and the entry is free of charge..The museum is situated in a lovely park where you can take an additional walk. Also the coffee place has a nice atmosphere and great coffee. Really worth seeing.

Yea it's free... But it's not very big & there's not a lot to see. Most of the exhibits are a bit silly & not really worth looking at. The staff are friendly & very helpful though. The best part & the only part that I can remember was the 1950s cinema section which was very interesting but a little bit cramped taking into consideration other areas where much larger with a lot less to do. Overall it's worth seeing to tick it off the list, but only if you're in the area... don't waste money getting there. It's a petty it was so disappointing because it's a beautiful historical building.

Interesting museum in part of Bangor Castle which focuses on local history from bronze age to modern day. There's a nice exhibition on vikings and there's a replica of a viking longhouse to walk through. There's plenty to keep children interested and the climate change exhibition shows that the museum is keeping up to date with the latest topics of interest. There's a lovely cafe with indoor and courtyard seating and a great little shop to visit. The cafe is open everyday. The museum is free to visit and open everyday except Monday. When you've finished at the museum, you can walk around the Castle Park and the Castle walled garden.

I found the Second World War gallery very interesting and accounts of the Americans stationed in the area during WW2. lovely cafe and nice food.

A hidden gem. A few minutes walk from Bangor station, in the opposite direction to the one most people go, towards the Marina, but very worth it. Within it is a fantastic cafe that does a really lovely lunch, with the owner being very personable and eager that you enjoy your break. The museum is within a grand old building itself and is a really interesting insight into the history of the immediate area. Definitely worth a couple of hours of your time.
Today, I visited Bangor Marina to witness the captivating yacht which was docked nearby, not far from the harbor. This remarkable vessel, worth a staggering $300 million, attracted significant attention from onlookers. It belongs to the Walmart heiress and everyone eagerly awaited a glimpse of her or someone accompanying her. The stark contrast between their lavish lifestyle and that of ordinary people became evident at this moment.
Bangor Marina has a wide selection of interesting yachts and there are plenty of seats to relax in and admire the views. There are two cooling fountains near the marina.

Nice to look at and walk around i guess but it's One of the many reasons Bangor town centre is in the state it is. To much money spent removing the sea front and putting in the marina costing a fortune that put up rates and forced businesses out. We got a marina but the town centre is pretty much dead. Good for well off people to park their boats but not much use for normal people apart from walking around.

Ward Park in Bangor is a beautifully landscaped town park, featuring small lakes and a stream running through it. The park offers a variety of sporting facilities, such as tennis courts, football pitches and a bowling green, as well as a playground for children to enjoy. Visitors can also take in live music at the bandstand or marvel at the birds housed in the aviary. A war memorial pays tribute to fallen soldiers.
Brilliant park. Great for picnics and taking the kids for a walk to feed the ducks
Amy Mcauley — Google review
Great local park especially for young children. It has a play park and 2 lakes with ducks and geese plus also multiple bird enclosures with many small, exotic feathered friends for the young children to be amazed by. There's a small coffee shop and also history in the shape of the towns War Memorial. A deck canon from a captured German WW1 sub takes pride of place nearby. In it's more recent history, Ward Park has played host to some top bands including Bangor's own Snow Patrol and rap star Eminem on a stage constructed at the sports pitch end of the park. 40000 people singing Chasing Cars is quite a sight. In July and August the classic Bandstand is a more modest location for Park life music with different themes each weekend ranging from Punk to Ska to swing. A bowling green and many squirrels just add to the charm. Sometimes we forget to stop and appreciate what's right on our doorstep and Ward Park is definitely that. Four stars (not five as the Duck ponds need cleaning)

A very pleasant place to walk and relax 🧘♀️. We stopped at a food market day. There was sun ☀️, music 🎶, many families with cheerful children 👨👩👧👦 , and food 🍲. Extremely nice to try new things and tastes.
The park has an exhibition of birds: small birds, peacocks and hens and roosters
(Pictures below).
The park is maintained, but not quite. The pools where the ducks swim are full of garbage, the water is extremely dirty. Which makes an unpleasant impression. But the duckz are friendly and hungry (in this water, food is hard to find in my opinion)...

A play area for kids, bowling green, several duck ponds, an enclosed area with many different species of birds.

Nice place for a picnic during the summer and a lovely walk in the rain.
Helen's Tower is a 19th century stone tower located on forested lands between Bangor and Newtownards. The tower was the subject of Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem and can be booked for an overnight stay through the National Trust. It is situated on top of a hill in the middle of the countryside, with lovely walking trails leading up to it.
Walking to Helen's Tower was over a mile from Crawfordsburn Road and was signposted after following the path straight. The path was basically a narrow gravel/stone mud road which wasn't too muddy. Helen's Tower itself was amazing and even could be rented! It's history was documented near the entrance.

We parked at whitespots Country Park on the A21, there are plenty of car parking spaces and also a place to put dog pop. There is a good bit of uphill walking this is on a decent path, we managed in trainers. Seems to be a shortage of signs along the way but we had a lovely time exploring the woodland area and the little lakes, Helens Tower was locked up and was looking a little neglected, it's still worth the walk though. We all had a great time and so did the dogs.

Nice walk up through the forest to get to the tower, the paths are better than I expected. Could do with more parking at the road side and some markers to show you the way. It was a very enjoyable walk with a fantastic tower to see. You can stay in the tower but unfortunately it only accommodates two people.

I loved the walk to the Tower from Whitespots Country Park. It's very hard and so easy to find. It's like the saying, Can't see the Forest with the Trees in the way. I used the app Map My Walks and Google maps, but a mountain biker give me the best advice. Just walk along the paths that run along the edge of the Golf Club, but even when Google maps says that I'm just a min from it, you still can't see it, with the trees in the way. When you do get to the Tower you just get to look at it. It can be hired for Holiday Let's. There's not a path around it's outside that you can walk so you can see all of the four sides. The forest around it and all the walking/biking trails remind me of a Large Maze, which was a bit of fun. I followed the golf club ground from Whitespot on my way there and it was almost 2 miles from the carpark. I returned by the forest bondry wall that was beyond the large mature trees, that where planted at the same time that the Tower was built. Unlike Scrabo Tower, there no view from here, just more Trees. Although I give it 3 stars, my day finding it from Whitespots Country Park (The Lead Mines) with all its history made it a 5 Star day walking with my 4 legged family member.
Beautiful beach. You walk out over 100 meters in to the sea and still not be waist deep, my daughter loved that. The sea is clear as anything and there is usually a coffee van and ice cream van. Lovely clean sand and even on the hottest day it doesn’t get too busy. There’s also a car park right next to it or side roads close by you can park on. The workers there were very professional, and they would keep us safe and ensure that we had fun, we also did the f1 sim but found that it wasn't as fun as it was just the two of us but would be better with 5+ people in total. Great track layout and having Eddie's car, race suits, trophys etc is awesome to look at while waiting for others to arrive. I will be coming back on my next trip over to NI for sure.

Great facility with something for everyone. The track is lots of fun. Very highly recommended. Paintball was also fun. The staff were helpful and when I had an issue stepped in to resolve it for me, treating me well. Thank you.

Took my children to the indoor skate park, they enjoyed it, and the staff seemed very knowledgeable. It was £10 per child per session. They also hire out bikes, scooters and helmets. They offer a variety of other activites all located in the same warehouse. The toilet facilities were awful, they were dirty, there was no toilet roll and you had to dry your hands on a towel-not very hygienic.

When we arrived we checked in via iPads, unfortunately only one of the 3 or 4 available was working but we got there, from there wenwerensent off to the briefing room to await other staff to give us some direction, but after 10 mins no one appeared so we got ourselves changed into the race suits available and waited, it was probably another 5-10 mins before anyone appeared to show up a safety video, once that was out of the way we headed for the track. The actual Go karting was fierce craic, the guys running the karting side were very knowledgeable and approachable. We decided to have a game of pool afterwards, 4 tables available but 3 were out of order, and the one that was working was about as flat a country lane, one yellow ball missing and no cue ball available so I managed to get a white snooker cue ball from reception but due to the weight difference once the white ball was potted (accidentally!) It didn't come back out, 2 coloured balls potted - game over! We had a walk around the facilities there really is so much to do, snooker tables, golf simulator, car racing simulator, 2 paddle tennis courts, a roller hockey arena, 6 5-a-side pitches, a laser style airsoft/laser tag arena and obviously the go karting track.

The staff are great, friendly and knowledgeable. The clothes, gloves, suits etc could do with a revamp, a bit holey but overall a fun experience.

Just finished a session of Room2Race here with my dad while my son played football for our local team on one of the many 4G pitches.
Great facility, karting, snooker, pool, virtual and kart racing, paddle tennis and loads of great five-a-side pitches... plus laser tag and paintball that I’ve not tried.
One word to the wise. It’s a big place and if you are going to be hanging about bring a coat in winter. Can’t expect them to heat the whole place for spectators.

Super place for stags and parties, our group did the grand prix and archery tag and both were extremely well organised and fun. Our group size was 10, all males. Eddie's has loads of parking, very much worth the money and has a sign in iPad so there's a bit of a delay if you have a large group so keep that in mind.
Magical, beautiful, gorgeous, place taken from heaven 🤩😍

Good place to stretch the legs, walking, biking, swimming. Approx half way between belfast and bangor. Various wee beaches along the coastline. Popular location for cold water swimming.

Quiet beach with a calmness around. Few people were around may be due to covid restrictions. One can take a rail and reach the helen's bay station. Hardly 35 mins travel via rail from Belfast. A nice place to spend time with family or friends

Beautiful end to a coastal walk from Holywood. A busy spot due to its convenient distance and train link from Belfast, one of the nicest nature spots people come to from the city.

Great time spent here today, not crazy busy but plenty of people milling about. Beach was relatively clean but towards the end of our day we walked the waters edge and there was some debris and discarded rubbish. I will remember to bring a bag next time to lift anything I see.

Our favourite walk Helen’s Bay down into Crawfordsburn, beautiful on a cold day or a warm day it doesn’t matter, beautiful walk.
Best public library in Northern Ireland in my opinion, highly recommended
catherine leary McCready — Google review
A bit strange for a library to not have a single book for learning English. And here you are not going to be able to be in silence. Lots of noise, people talking as if they were in a bar and children shouting without the parents saying anything. Nothing positive apart from the organizers' chairs which are comfortable.

I really love this library from the selection of books it has, to the atmosphere and the facilities. It loses two stars though because there’s nowhere quiet you can go to get your work done; occasionally you’ll get some peace on the top floor at the back but the school teens come in to chat and giggle making it extremely difficult to concentrate.

As a librarian by profession, and a bibliophile at heart, I have to say that this library is one of the best in the world! A beautiful setting, a blend of old and new architecturally, and an amazing bookstock. I love using this library.

Great place to study or write with spacious areas for various disciplines. Coffee machine and excellent toilets always clean (in my experience). Very helpful staff. It loses a star because a lot of the doors and floors are very noisy!

Friendly staff, lots of new books. Set in a beautiful park so you can have a wee dander round the lake. Loos not open yet but the renovated loos in Park are open. Located behind bowling green

The structure known as the McKee Clock, situated in a particular location, can be described as an imposing edifice. This remarkable architectural creation stands tall and proud, commanding attention with its striking appearance. Bangor Abbey is a significant historical landmark with a rich history dating back to 558 AD. This Augustinian abbey has been rebuilt over the centuries, most notably in the 14th and 17th centuries, and features a beautiful church surrounded by picturesque grounds. The site also includes a historic graveyard that adds to its cultural significance. Visitors can easily access Bangor Abbey from the nearby bus and train station, while Saturday mornings in summer offer car boot sales for those interested in shopping.
Came looking for family history. It wasn't here, but the rector was extremely helpful and directed us to the right place.

Warm, gentle, contemplative. Visiting Bangor Abbey is like stepping out of time. Thanks must go to the Rector and his team for keeping this sacred place available and treating it with respect it deserves.

This place was incredible. The rector, Ronnie, showed me around and told me all about the Christian history of the place going back to St. Patrick etc. This Has been a site of worship for over a thousand years, and what come from here has deeply blessed both Ireland and Europe. Beautiful church set in lovely grounds founded in 558 AD and rebuilt in the 14th and 17th centuries. Well worth a visit and is just a short walk from bus and train station. There are some great car boot sales on Saturday mornings during summer.
Many thanks to Karen and the team @ Clandeboye Courtyard. Stunning wedding venue and fantastic attention to detail. Made planning and the actual day itself so much easier knowing we were in such good hands. I couldn't commend this venue highly enough.

It's fantastic for keeping people out of Belfast Lough while walking the Dog. If it wasn't for the Pier i would have been soaked hundreds of times over. A fine invention Mr Eisenhower sir the pup and i salute you 👍

Brilliant place to fish. The partner and myself love this spot. Altho young people jump in off peir in summer which can make fishing bad.
If you are interested in WW2 and military, that place is definitely for you! Great view, awesome place for family picnic. Worth coming.

It's a great shame, this is down as the best preserved, but I'm afraid it's now being let go. It was closed when we got there and was staying in the area so called back the next day. There was someone there who kindly gave us a quick walk round. He explained there were no plans to do any renovation, which was a great shame. You can still walk round the perimeter outside the fence and can partially see the guns. It could be very good situated as it is overlooking the entrance to Belfast Lough.

If you like forts, the colour grey and pointing at things, this might just be your idea of heaven. The fort itself is a bit underwhelming. Like a lot of Northern Ireland, the phrase, it's good but could be better applies. However, if you stumble across the fort as part of a walk along the shore, it's a different matter. The views up and down and across Belfast Lough are stunning. Check it out.
ARTHUR PATRICK — Google review
Oh dear another wasted opportunity for Northern Ireland, closed up like so many places. So overgrown can barely even see the gun. Still wasn’t totally wasted it takes you to Helen’s bay and Crawfordsburn park which is a nice seafront walk
Mark Magee — Google review
For those into history, military things and radios is good for a look, but it would be a relatively short visit as it is a small place, but we'll looked after and still working, the amount of military radios collected by the enthusiasts is quite phenomenal, plus they can tell you about each one.
Brian Naish — Google review
Shut when we looked round but aside from the fort compound there is a walk through the woods to the coast and information panels about how the site was used in WWII so still worth a visit. Good views from the lookout points.

Interesting place to have a wander around. Some good working displays of WWII Era radio technology and also the massive gun batteries.

Fantastic county down gem. This place defended Belfast during WWII and has been lovingly restored by volunteers who are only to happy to show you round and tell you more. Worth a visit for old and young alike
