La Fontaine des Éléphants is a beautiful monument erected in December 1838 to honor the General-Comte de Boigne. Located in the old town of Chambery, it is marked by street signs leading to its center. The fountain features four splendidly designed elephant statues that spray water through their trunks, making it the most famous attraction in the city.
A beautiful fontaine, statue with an interesting story.

Inaugurated in Dec. 1838, this is a monument to celebrate the General-Comte de Boigne.
Look carefully around, the path to the fountain is actually marked by indications on the streets of the old town of Chambery…

3.5🌟 we reckon.
On the way back from Annecy to Grenoble, we decided to stop in Chambery. It was still early.
We were pleasantly surprised that the town has lots to offer too. We parked near the main square. As usual, there are lots of restaurants, cafes, ice-cream parlours at the square.
Decided to stroll further after our evening drinks. We arrived at the fountain. Most fountains in larger towns we have seen are always grand and somewhat of a center piece. This one is no different.
The elephants have their backs again the fountain, which is of course a defensive posture. As if to tell everyone, they are protecting the fountain.
Walking further, we were greeted by several other monuments within the town.
A worthwhile stopover with many sights to see.

Beautiful monument and fountain with 4 elephants, 1 on each side spraying water through their trunks. Surrounded by streets that are pleasant to walk and many stores to do some shopping. It is freely accessible and well lit at night. An iconic symbol of the city created to honour a general.

A hidden gem in France. This is such a picturesque beautiful little town, with narrow streets and lovely restaurants. Slap bang in the middle of the French Alps.

La Fontaine des Éléphants in Chambéry is a true gem. The beauty of the sculpted elephants is simply breathtaking and the attention to detail is amazing. The fountain is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a peaceful and serene place to relax. The atmosphere is peaceful and calming, and it's a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. I highly recommend visiting La Fontaine des Éléphants for anyone looking for a peaceful and beautiful oasis in Chambéry. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this stunning fountain is not to be missed.

Beautiful sculptures and fountains but the businesses surrounding them are so so... Could do with some landscaping and place making.

A large fountain with elephants on four sides. Water spouts from the trunks so when it's hot, you can have an elephant cool you a bit

There's lot's of beggars and homeless in the vicinity who disturb you by photoshooting.
Restaurants around the square are nice, though. With a nice scene for photography.

Museum of Charmettes - House of Jean-Jacques Rousseau
My visit to this wonderfully historic home has been the highlight of my trip to France from England. The house is full of fantastic trompe l'oeil and rare papiers peints and the garden too is a delight. An incredibly peaceful, poetic place full of the spirit of Rousseau. A must if you are in the area.

I am very impressed with the beauty of this place. Both the house and the garden look impeccable. It is so interesting to be in this place of rare beauty. I always wanted to know how people lived in the past and this house is a piece of history. Admission is free, you can enjoy a history lesson but also a breath of fresh air surrounded by nature.

The audio commentary was informative and the gardens were a delight. The inside of the house was sparsely furnished. I felt more could have been done to recreate the internal decor of the time Rousseau lived there

The Château des Ducs de Savoie is an ancient castle that currently serves as a government office and a small museum of history. It boasts a well-maintained interior of the new palace, and visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the mi-rond tower. Additionally, an intriguing exhibition showcasing historical maps of the region is on display. The castle is still used today by the government. So it's not much of a tourist attraction. There is a small museum inside with information on the history of Savoie and a large collection of old coins. It is possible to do tours but you need to speak to the tourist information first in the town centre. If you like history it's worth the visit.

Cathédrale Saint-François-de-Sales is a historic monument renowned for its exquisite trompe l'oeil ceiling paintings, stained glass and organ. The entire area surrounding the cathedral in Chambery boasts of stunning architecture that is as beautiful as the interior of the church itself. This medieval town has many preserved buildings with original exteriors but stunningly beautiful interiors. The inside architecture is particularly striking, highlighted by the painted ceiling that adds to its beauty and grandeur.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful building, impressive but very disappointed by the visit: 1h30 sitting on a folding chair between 2 locomotives. We would have liked to have been informed of this long duration beforehand, especially since once the presentation is over, we cannot leave. You have to wait for all the visitors to gather outside before you can leave. We feel a little locked in... The guide talked more about Paris than about the building itself, the visit was quite dense and disjointed in terms of the information given, hard to find your way around when you know nothing about it. Being still in service, you can't wander around the place and to see it work, you better be lucky and choose your day well...

Visit led at the beginning by a fairly interesting old gentleman but who was rather clumsily replaced by a young man and a pseudo guide from Chambéry with uninteresting explanations.
It's a shame and it's also unfortunately a bit of today's France which gives more importance to a cardboard goal which certifies, in this case, a guide which recounts information read while forgetting the importance of lived history.
Disappointed, I left before the end because you are not allowed to visit the entire site.
On the other hand, leaving is rewarded with a visit to an auto mechanic workshop, the real thing.

We received very good advice about what we could do with our young family in Chambéry. The advisor spoke excellent English and was friendly and helpful. She gave us ideas we would not have had and was very positive about our options in the time available. Thank you.

The office of tourism in Chambery should be every tourist’s first stop. It made our quick stop in the city very efficient and very fun.

Hôtel De Cordon, located on Rue Saint-Real, is a 15th-century historic private mansion that has been repurposed into a cultural facility and museum. The museum offers an exhibition on the evolution and history of Chambery and its inhabitants, showcasing the city's heritage through models and paintings depicting its transformation since medieval times. Additionally, visitors can explore interactive displays on local culture, heritage, design, and town planning.
An interesting display & overview on the effort to preserve Chambery’s historic core, told through the story on this beautifully refurbished chateau. Master story telling & small scale models help recreate the growth and preservation of the city. Free admission.

Currently, a temporary exhibition on the city's railway rotunda which is itself an exceptional heritage site. Finally, a young mediator, available, competent and enthusiastic.

(Translated by Google) It was while walking that we discovered the Cordon hotel.
The lady at reception is very friendly and gave us very good information.
The exhibition on the rotunda was very informative and made us want to go and visit it. The exhibition on the city was interesting but perhaps lacked a little more detail and depth. Although we are already learning a lot.

(Translated by Google) Very friendly and pleasant welcome. The availability of an admittedly somewhat small exhibition is also very appreciated, especially as it is free. The city guides offered by the establishment are remarkably cultured and make everyone benefit! I therefore strongly recommend the visit to Chambéry and the castle (departure is from the Cordon host) offered by the Chambéry tourism site

(Translated by Google) What a desappointment! Faithful to the media library since always since I was already a follower of the old library transformed today into a museum...
Phone call a little "dry" from them for damaged book after returning to the book boxes on a Sunday! None to speak: I have to pay the amount for the purchase of the new book!!!
The damage comes down to a slight warp on the edge of the thick novel, which in no way hinders reading. Nothing to do, nothing to discuss...YOU MUST PAY!!!
A little steep since this book hasn't left its place all summer, I haven't read it or taken it on vacation...Its only trip was its 1 mile bike ride back in my backpack a scorching Sunday. The damage is undoubtedly linked to a few drops of sweat... For me, a book wants to be alive!
A little too big all that! If the media library also needs money, what a sad strategy... In the meantime, I'll go read elsewhere!

(Translated by Google) Huge thanks to the MEDIA VUE team at the media library. A rare service dedicated to the visually impaired. I had a first appointment of 2 hours as a companion then a 2nd of 2 hours with my mother (89 years old, AMD, etc.). The objective of this service is to help the visually impaired regain their independence. Bet won. At the end of these 2 sessions:
- I was able to install and configure essential applications on my mother's iPhone
- my mother acquired the basics of autonomy with Siri and Voice Over
- she was able to read her first audio book on the train that took her home, alone, in total autonomy
- she knows how to find the TV program
THANKS THANKS THANKS
